Ach herrje, es geht wieder durch mit mir. Nachdem ich letztes Jahr Flying Lotus’ kurzen EP-Appetizer bereits gefeiert habe wie Gyros mit Krautsalat, ist auch sein Albumdebüt für Warp nicht weniger als eine Offenbarung. In der Zwischenzeit häufig und gerne mit Kode 9 und dessen Hyperdub-Posse auf der Insel abhängend, hat sich der Kalifornier noch mehr für Subbässe und Hall geöffnet, ohne freilich zu vergessen seinen Magister bei den Dozenten Yancey, Jackson, Davis und Herren absolviert zu haben. Und wenn er wie auf dem hypnotischen Melt! traditionelle afrikanische Musik in neue Kontexte setzt oder mit Hilfe von Gonja Sufi und einem mächtigen Kontrabass Billy Holiday ins dritte Jahrtausend befördert, reichen selbst die obigen Referenzpunkte nicht mehr aus. Mit einem solchen Instinkt für die fragile Wechselbeziehung zwischen Dissonanz und Harmonie programmiert gerade kaum jemand. Hört man Sleepy Dinosaur, GNG BNGoder Comet Course, will man gar das Zeitalter des Synth-Jazz ausrufen, wenn es nicht so schrecklich einfältig klingen würde. Dabei ist der doch noch keine 25 Jahre alt. Was kommt da bloß noch auf uns zu? Und wo hat der eigentlich all die Instrumente her?
