Von sämtlichen Künstlern der Project-Blowed-Clique ist Busdriver der interessanteste. Verglichen mit Abstract Rude, Planet Asia, Aceyalone oder Myka9 hatte Busdriver stets das breiteste Verständnis von Hip-Hop. Sein freier, Jazz-inspirierter Rapstil hat stets viele musikalische Möglichkeiten offengehalten. Nicht von ungefähr konnte er seine Wortakrobatik auf Produktionen von Daedelus, Boom Bip, Daddy Kev oder auch edIT und Para One unter Beweis stellen. Auch seine Kollaborationen – u.a. mit den Indie-Bads Islands und The Unicorns – sind ebenso wenig herkömmlich wie seine Sampleauswahl. Stellvertretend sei an »Avantcore« von 2005 erinnert, das auf einem Sample von Can beruht. Sein nunmehr achtes Studioalbum zeigt, dass Regan J. Farquhar auch der beständigste MC der kalifornischen Rasselbande ist. »Jhelli Beam« hat nämlich wiederum alles, was Busdriver eben ausmacht: wahnwitzige Samples (Mozarts Sonate in A-Dur), Daedelus und Nobody als Gerüstebauer, Myka9 und das ewige Talent Nocando rappen ein bisschen, Greg Saunier von Deerhoof schraubt am Sound, John Dietrich von Deerhoof spielt Gitarre, Nicholas Thoburn von Islands ist auch dabei.
