Item Description
Rare yet much beloved Canadian pop-psych record from 1968—an album considered by many to be the best to come out of Canada during the late 1960’s! Built around the talents of singer/guitarist Jay Tefler and bassist Fergus Hambleton, A Passing Fancy made their name in Toronto's vibrant Yorkville Village scene. That initial successes playing Toronto's club circuit led to a headlining stint at the 1967 Toronto Expo. The resulting publicity saw them "discovered" by Columbia Records, who subsequently released a string of four outstanding pop/psych singles. Here's where it gets weird. In spite of the four hit singles, Columbia elected not to release an album. Indie label Boo Records was formed to release "A Passing Fancy" on LP (the singles plus four additional tracks). Although the LP received strong reviews, Boo Records couldn't sustain promotion; by the end of the year the band had called it quits. A shame, as it's a terrific album.
