Submerse - Tears EP
Hailing from Cheshire, Submerse is an esteemed producer/DJ with a distinct and recognisable sound that traverses Beat Music, Ambient, 2-step and Autonomic whilst being punctuated by a myriad of unique and personal influences. The past year has seen him at his most prolific, releasing tracks & remixes with R&S sister label Apollo Records, Med School and many more. Submerse was featured by Pioneer Japan and was also named ‘Band Of The Week’ In The Guardian newspaper (2012).
Amidst a plenitude of productions, Submerse has also seen support emerge from influential media titans such as DJ Mag, XLR8R, Big Up, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1xtra.

After his “They Always Come Back“ EP on Apollo Records, “Tears“ is already his second vinyl release this year. The EP is all about the feeling of solitude you’re in upon finding yourself in a foreign country and a strangely different culture. In this situation the smallest and most usual tasks – simply finding a can of your favorite soft drink for instance – have the potential to become almost insuperable obstacles. Soaking in the atmosphere created by dim street lights on a nightly stroll to explore new territories in a vastly unknown urban space, while contemplating about new experiences and memories of home are activities to indulge in when you’re stranded all alone in an alien world.

Limited edition blue transparent vinyl!

Project: Mooncircle / hhv.de
Berlin-based label Project: Mooncircle is an official label from hhv.de. It was founded in 2002 by Gordon Gieseking and is specializing in the conjunction between electronic and organic music. Being interested in music from his earliest childhood on, it eventually became more than just a passion to him. The label, at first envisaged as a compilation project only, found the perfect partner with Thomas Ulrich and his mail-order hhv.de in 2004, later being joined by Jinna Morocha from Moscow. This led the way for the first instrumental and vocal solo releases by such artists as Mr Cooper, 40 Winks, CYNE, Jahbitat, John Robinson, MF Doom, Lambent, Lewis Parker, Non of Shadowhuntaz, Graciela Maria, Strand, Robot Koch, Pavel Dovgal, Ta-Ku, Mika Gao, Onra, Obba Supa, fLako, Sina., 1000 Names, DZA, Krts, Long Arm or Glen Porter. In 2009 the sub-label Project: Squared, run by Paul Cooper and Peter Schachmann, two long-standing companions and co-workers, was founded. Project: Squared releases mainly Dubstep and Techno 12” records from such artists as Asusu, Furesshu, AnD, L-OW, Tom Diccico, Shifted and others. Another sub-label, Finest Ego, was added in 2010. Run by Malte Tarnow, its aim is to consolidate the versatility of instrumental beats, glitch or wonky and anything in between or beyond. The outcome are compilations with such producers as Daisuke Tanabe, Isaac Aesili, Om Unit, Lapalux, RLP, ichiro_, Himuro Yoshiteru, Pixelord, Monky, Christoph El Truento, and various others. The work of illustrators and graphic designers such as Bioniq, Dan May, Iain McArthur, Ima One, LNY, Gordon, 44 Flavours, La Mano Fria, and The Binh create images that accompany the acoustic spaces. Project: Mooncircle with its various producers & vocalist shall be an interesting experience for anyone looking for the extraordinary.

Review
Henning Koch, 22.08.2012

Two releases by the british producer Submerse, who lives in Tokyo, have attracted the electronic music scene’s attention this summer. After »They Always Come Back EP«, which aims directly at electronic dance music, follows the two-dimensional and playful »Tears EP« on Project:Mooncircle, which convinces the listener with flowing melodies and pitched vocal samples. This works perfectly well in combination wit the broken UK Garage-drum structure, which stirs the harmonious elements on »Kerosene« and »Meaningless Moments In capsules«. Whereas the first of these tracks surprises with a speedy beginning and a focus on an offbeat and blurred percussions in its second half, the second explores a more epic composition with an ensnared center part, long first and final notes and a foundation of a clicking and rustling vinyl-structure. The tracks before, »Cream Soda« and »It’s Over, I Lost« cannot quite achieve this, as, despite their many-voiced structure, they don’t reach the same level of interest. »Pressure« is the only track which is stringently formed in common time and is therefore a beautiful, but also a low-strain part of the EP. It is all fixed by the last, name-giving finale »Tears«, which ends the exotic and positive atmosphere of the EP with a vast Burial-esque arrangement made of rhythmic games and interspersed vocal elements.
