Tabla Records is a new record label from Nürnberg, Germany, run by esteemed club promoters and DJs, Micha Klang (also a producer for labels like Off, Safari, Clap Your Hands) and Serdal Dincer. The first release comes from established house producer and Dutchman Ion Ludwig. Labels like Meander and Tenth Circle have released his reductive and minimalist jazzy brews before, and the man himself is soon to launch his own label. Ahead of that though he serves up two new tracks for Tabla. The first is Spuren das Speed, a tightly woven tapestry of wonky synth lines bobbling beats. Up-lit by typically jazzy chords, it grows ever more out of itself, surging then receding and pulling you with it at every turn. The remix comes from another exciting Dutch talent in the form of young Alex Jansen. He sees fit to pull everything back into a sunken deep house march. Sheets of steel seem to gentle whip and snap as the track rolls forwards with lasting feeling coming from the downbeat chords that dampen down the whole thing. The second and final original from Ion Ludwig is stuffed with real world ambiance – the sound of a party going on in another room seems to form the backdrop as exquisitely designed and itchy hi hats shimmer in the foreground. Of course the whole thing is propped up by a chunky underside and when you listen closely, all manner of pattering toms, waify melodies and distant voices seem to hang in the air like smoke, drifting too and fro of their own accord.

Following on from the floor filling delights of his last effort, Ragazzini / Diavolo Di Un Disco (played by almost everyone from Dimtri From Paris to Todd Terje, from Prins Thomas to Justin Vandervolgen via Tensnake), the Italian born Federico Costantini might well have decided to replicate the same formula for his next EP on Hell Yeah. But no, the man has more about him than that, and instead turns in three wildly different cuts that touch on a wide array of influences from broken disco to soul, post rock to African rhythms. As a resident at Rome party Exe-Cute, Luminodisco knows how to work a dancefloor in style and does so again with the tracks here. Burundiness for example, which grows from the delicate rattles of cow bells and muffle of distant voices into a predatory disco crawl, laden down with xylophone sounds, squelchy claps and melancholic piano chords - it sounds alive, organic and like a field recording of some African savannah come sun down.

The more industrial stomp and gyrate tactics of 'Sssn02' certainly continues the tone, with intricate shapes thrown against a dark canvas of mechanical drums and ever-modulating spaces, adding carefully restrained moments of drama to the mix. Slowly building, 'Route of Pain's title might sound menacing, but what we actually discover growing from the pounding kick drum is a brighter, positive dub-chorded techno jam in the classic tradition - in other words: Essential!

So they have kept their sound fresh first by carefully calibrating the tone on everything from the guitar to the bass to the perfectly fuzzed vocals, and by having well-written, catchy, pop-minded songs which, while sounding familiar, really are like nothing you have ever heard before. And their execution is excellent. They've got a killer rhythm section, with their bassist and drummer keeping the band tightly in the pocket, great fuzzed-out vocal harmonies throughout, and an organ that manages to play just as little as is necessary that adds just a thin layer of awesome to their songs.

We here at Randy Records are honored to announce that we are releasing the first recording of the DEAD GHOSTS since their LP on Floridas Dying. One of the things that, in my opinion, sets The Dead Ghosts apart from their contemporaries is their ability to sneak just a little taste of country music into their patented reverb-soaked sound. Maybe they think no one notices, but I always do, and I love them for it. 'I Sleep Alone' is definitely case in point. When it comes down to it, this song is really just a country song about heartbreak, with slide guitar and everything, dressed up in a Back From the Grave Outfit, extra reverb. Great lyrics, great drums, great sound, great song. A song perfectly paired with a glass of whiskey and a heavy heart. 'Spot a Trend,' on the other hand, is much more sinister and punk, with lyrics that are more slurred than sung. Both songs are totally different from each other, but totally awesome. The Dead Ghosts have managed to burst back on the scene with another one-two knockout punch of a record and you should all be grateful that they did.

Following up a killer demo and 7", Olympia's WEIRD TV goes long(er) with six new songs that showcase strong musical development and renewed charisma, the kind of music that stares you down even from the comfort of your own home. In a refreshing role reversal, the men in the band are relegated to the rhythm section, while the women handle vocals and guitar, shredding as hard as the situations warrant. Lyrics are once again in Spanish, and the band's respect for and inspiration from Latino punk, particularly its history in Southern California, is vetted in full solely by way of deed. I got a test pressing, so no lyrics (or song titles, for that matter) are evident, but in the tradition of their previous single, Weird TV has a way of making your classic Pac-NW feminist punk sound more vicious and hectoring than almost anything else in the past 10-15 years, to the point where a few of these songs sound like a curse bestowed upon the unjust who happen to stumble upon this release - these people will make you pay.

By contrast, Krink, the young hit machine from the Audiolith entourage, has the synthies glow with his piece “For You”. Third in this league is RJ who comes wheeling round the corner with a 100-bpm disco track.
