Under moonlight, the album explores anxieties and aspirations through groove and rhythm, expressed in Neapolitan, Arabic, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. It moves fluidly from Afro-Cuban influences in “Celavì” to Anatolian textures in “Ma Tu Che Bbuò”, blending highlife guitars with Nu Genea’s signature mandolins-new rhythms filtered through an Italian lens.

The first single “Sciallà” (2025) introduced this direction: dance as catharsis, not escape. The title track reflects a quiet resilience-persistent rather than triumphant. “Onenon”, featuring Tom Misch, channels Mediterranean brit-funk, while “Acelera”, with María José Llergo, evokes a flamenco-tinged pursuit of the unattainable.

“Puleza” recalls Nuova Napoli with driving energy and vintage synths, while “Shway Shway”, sung by Celinatique, captures the album’s orbital flow-measured, rich, and rhythmically complex, echoing afrobeat explorations with Tony Allen.

Melody remains central, as in “Carè”. Across ten tracks, falling, flying, and dancing merge in a suspended groove. Gabriel Prado’s “Ondas Do Mar” embodies this pull: a cyclical motion, like the tides—irresistible, transformative, and alive within us.

Four years after Nuova Napoli, Nu Genea are back with Bar Mediterraneo, a new album and journey, which projects the sounds of the Neapolitan duo formed by Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina even further. Nu Genea's Bar Mediterraneo is an idea of a shared place where people meet and fuse together; a space that leaves its doors open to travellers and their lives, always exposed to the whims of fate. Some of this can be experienced through the multitude of sounds that come together in the tracks, layers of different acoustic instruments, voices and synthesizers merging in a unique musical blend. Opening up to the voices of many different people, separated by languages but united by the sea and the music, Nu Genea's hometown, Napoli, becomes a true place of encounter. You can hear this all along. In "Gelbi", a gorgeously deep and propulsive Ney flute plunges into murky waters of the melancholic Tunisian dialect sung by Marzouk Mejri. In "Marechia'", unbridled happiness and sun ooze from the delicate vocals of Célia Kameni and create an acrobatic bridge between French and Neapolitan language. In "Straniero", your soul is arrested from the moment the slow spell-binding mandolin ignites the hypnotic patterns recorded by the legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen. In "Bar Mediterraneo", the title track, bittersweet guitar’s riffs, analog waves and choirs are overwhelming the song giving you what you would like to hear on a boat trip along the Amalfi Coast. Nu Genea couldn't afford to overlook their firmly anchored roots into the Neapolitan culture and its dialect with "Tienaté", where the power of neapolitan language (interpreted by Fabiana Martone) supports those quarter-tone strings and the uncessant folk-disco groove that spreads to the entire song. In "Praja Magia", repetitive mandolin riffs lead the song, giving space to a choral yet tight vocal line that speaks of Varcaturo, a village close to Napoli. In "Rire", a volley of poetic, deceptively laidback, lyrical fury interpreted by Sicilian Marco Castello intimately combines with a highly musical, multitextured instrumental backbone and the swoon of a chanson in its heart. In "La Crisi'', the lyrics of a Raffaele Viviani’s poem from 1930 have been adapted to a laidback jazz-funk groove in full NG style. In "Vesuvio", revaluing the evocative verses and powerful mantra of Vesuvio, Nu Genea re-adapted to the dancefloor a folk song by the working-class band E’ Zezi from Pomigliano D'Arco, combining the voices of a school choir with Jupiter-6 arpeggios and bold percussions. Bar Mediterraneo is the place where people constantly return to transform curiosity into participation, tradition into sharing, unfamiliar into familiar. When travellers come through its “doors”, carrying their treasures of words and emotions, they aren’t strangers any more. They take part in a shared experience, enriching themselves and others by leading to unexpected musical journeys.

After touring the world looking for sounds suitable for their vibrations, NU GUINEA decided to go back to square one, Napoli, where Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina were born and raised. They watched their city from a distance reconstructing its energy from their studio in Berlin, calibrating the synths on the meridian of Vesuvius, the volcano that has always protected and threatened Napoli.
NUOVA NAPOLI is the result of a long musical research that has become a historical investigation on the sound that shaped Napoli during the ‘70s and ‘80s, starting from the contamination of genres (disco, jazz-funk, African rhythms) which ended up in Nu Guinea’s DNA.
In this album the synthesizers fill the spaces between the past and the future, tightening in a single body acoustic instruments, electronics and voices in Neapolitan dialect. It is the first time that the duo has worked with such a large group of musicians, some of whom are exponents of the contemporary Neapolitan scene.

Welcome to Volume 8 of the Mr Bongo Record Club series, our in-house curated compilations that give us a chance to share some of our favourite tracks, hard-fought finds, and unsung gems. These are tracks that have been inspiring us at home, in the office, while DJing, and on the dancefloor.

In the cross-genre spirit of the series, for Volume 8 we have selected music from the worlds of soul, boogie, disco-reggae, jazz-funk, and Latin, with a hefty chunk of beloved Brazilian music. Pulling these compilations together is always a highlight of our year, and eight volumes in, we feel this is one of our strongest to date.

The album’s journey begins with a heartfelt epic by As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã, from the Bahian town of Itapuã. It’s an area of Brazil that holds a special place in David ‘Mr Bongo’ Buttle’s heart, and where he first met our dear friend, Luciano Rodrigues Dos Santos, to whose memory this compilation is dedicated to.

Staying in Northern Brazil, next up is a contemporary dancefloor gem by Ubunto, a DJ and producer from Salvador, which also features As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã. The raw, dusty, punchy sounds of zabumba drummer Castanheiro and the furious guitar-heavy dancer by Tyaraju & Dutra are just two more examples of the Brazilian beauties included on the compilation.

There is also a heavy dose of soul music on this volume. The Canadian-gospel sounds of Trevor Dandy, a modern-soul rarity by Wil Collins & Willpower (which has been on our list for years), and a soul-stepper masterpiece by Tommy McGee, are just a handful of the highlights. Not stopping there, we are incredibly proud to present an exclusive rework of The Sylvers' ‘Wish That I Could Talk To You’ by the legendary Kenny Dope. Kenny has excelled himself with this one, fattening up the drums while bringing more drama to the horns and strings. The song now feels more contemporary yet still stays true to its roots. Complete genius!

Elsewhere on the compilation, you’ll find a cosmic reggae-not-reggae disco oddity by Tapper Zukie, a South African jazz-funk-disco groover by Mac Mathunjwa, a sought-after Brazilian compacto by Eduardo Araújo, and a Brit-funk / boogie treasure by Powerline.

Traversing time, genre, and location, all the tracks on Volume 8 are favourites for their own unique reasons. Music will forever be a constant source of comfort, able to affect you deeply in the most meaningful ways. It’s the gift that keeps giving, and there is so much more to learn, discover, and share, both old and new.

Curió Curió came to flight by chance. Two artists, Rio-born, Austria-based singer and actress Luiza Monteiro and German producer Dustin Braun, had separately reached a fork in their journeys. An opportune encounter soon blossomed into an uplifting, heartfelt Brazilian MPB-groove project shaped by psychedelic disco and studio experimentation. In their own words Curió Curió’s sonic vision “is not straight disco, not straight samba, not strictly old-school but inspired by all of them, creating something contemporary but still nostalgic”. A modern fusion influenced as much by Gal Costa and Jorge Ben Jor as Say She She and Bala Desejo, their sound deftly plots a course all of its own. A celebration of freedom, movement, love and life, intertwined with introspective moments of reflection. Treating tradition as something alive, migratory and unresolved, the album is not simply bound by a shared love of Brazilian music, but by a deeper question that runs through every track; where does one belong when home becomes plural? As a Brazilian living in Europe, Luiza's lyrics explore themes of identity, culture, and existence. The tracks move between cities and emotional registers without settling, tracing a sense of identity that shifts rather than resolves. Songs like ‘Amor Doente’ and ‘Mar sem Dar Pé’ circle around relationships that resist clarity, while ‘Menina Passarinho’ captures the fear and necessity of committing to music as a path. For Luiza, deepening her commitment to music alongside years in theatre was both inevitable and difficult. Braun’s production follows a similar logic. Initial ideas were often built without obvious reference points, only later incorporating rhythmic and vocal elements that hint at Brazil without reproducing it. Analogue techniques, tape, ribbon microphones and live ensemble recording bring a tactile quality that reflects the duo’s interest in process as much as outcome. Highlights include ‘Bem Querer’, built on an authentic samba street vibe with a super-catchy sing-along chorus, and ‘Vem pra Casa’ with its cosmic-tinged Brazilian boogie flavour. The album closes with ‘A Cor do Meu Sonho’, a quiet act of insistence. A refusal to shrink in unfamiliar environments, and a belief in the strength of difference. It is less a conclusion than a continuation, leaving the central question open. “I started to understand that I can belong to many places at once”, Luiza reflects. “And that can be something to embrace”. Lyrics from the song ‘Raiz’ translate in English to “I value a burning sun and the cold in the air. Constant change is my companion”. With Curió Curió, that idea is lived through sound, story and collaboration. A debut that feels both searching and assured, grounded in heritage yet shaped by distance.

The "Discoteca Tropicana" 12" by Discoteca Tropicana is released on Selva Discos and brings together four original compositions that celebrate the rhythms that have shaped Brazilian disco: a mix of swinging arrangements and tropical flair aimed squarely at lighting up the dancefloor.

The project is the result of a collaboration between Kiko Costato, the enfant terrible of the Brazilian scene, and Zé Nigro, a producer and multi-instrumentalist with two Grammy Awards. For the recordings, Costato and Nigro recruited some of Brazil’s most distinguished studio musicians as well as pioneers of the country’s Black music scene, including backing vocalists who regularly work with Gilberto Gil. This mix of personnel contributes to the stylistic diversity of the EP.

Musically, the record moves between classic disco aesthetics and regional Brazilian patterns: “Corpos Celestes” leans on orchestral string arrangements and a big grand piano, like the glamorous opening to a night out; “Corpo Treme” is a sweat‑drenched, carimbó‑driven track with a vuco‑vuco vibe; “Tobina” links Brazilian swing with African vocal forms and distinctive guitar work in an afoxé feel; and finally, “Não Pode Acabar” is the urban dancefloor hit that works equally well as a set opener or as a furious set closer.

The clear production, the selection of seasoned accompanying musicians, and the thematic range make the "Discoteca Tropicana" 12" a compact, well‑balanced homage to the fusion of Brazilian tradition and disco sensibility.

The 12" “We Must Believe” by The CJP Band, released on Supa Jams, brings together two sides of forward-thinking disco and jazz-funk elements. On side A, “We Must Believe” channels a string-laden, spiritually charged spatial soundscape built on boogie-driven basslines and expansive sax solos, while audibly paying homage to the psychedelic soul vocals of earlier outfits. Side B is a rendition of Charles Earland’s 1976 jazz-funk classic “Let The Music Play,” and, as a raw, driving dancefloor cut, it aims squarely at powerful drumming, precise Fender bass runs, and expressive guitar and sax work.

On this release, The CJP Band spans a range from anthemic soul to direct funk; vocal lines and orchestral strings run in parallel with percussive, partly Brazil-tinged rhythms. Style-wise, the music can be traced back to roots like Rotary Connection or the groove of Idris Muhammad, while modern arrangements reframe the classic material. The combination of retro inflections and contemporary production defines the distinctive sound.

Key features of the release include the guest appearance by Hannah Williams on the flip side, the raw, dance-oriented approach of the cover version, and the limited pressing with hand-stamped sleeve, which underscores the physical format as a collector’s item. For DJs and collectors, the 12" offers a tightly focused two-sider that places both live-sounding solos and sophisticated bass grooves front and center.

New Parisian label, Disques Messager, presents its first release and not the least. As its name suggests, the label has a simple leitmotiv: to place itself among the best messengers for rarities and sought-after gems of the international rare groove. A mission which begins rather well, with the official reissue of these two stirring titles by Brazilian singer and composer Cristina Camargo. Native of Rio De Janeiro, Cristina Camargo had quite a short career, releasing only 2 albums in 1980 and 1981, but still enough to collaborate with some of the best composers, musicians and producers at that time. Her first self-titled album was therefore produced by Robson Jorge & Lincoln Oliveti and recorded with some of the finest musicians. “Moral Tem Hora” comes from this same LP and is a perfect example of the unique alchemy that emerged when the Disco and Boogie invaded the Brazilian music scene. A quite hard to find Boogie killer, composed by famous brothers, Marcos and Paulo Sérgio Valle. On B side comes “Minas Do Rei Salomão”, a more chilled-out title extracted from Cristina’s 2 nd album, Santa Maravilha. With its funky slapped bass, airy keyboards and the sweet vocals of Cristina, the song seems made to sip a nice cocktail at Ipanema.

The 12" “This Ain't No Disco / Tarot” by Loveface / Misiu is presented as a split release on A & R Edits and brings together two purpose-built renditions: Loveface turns Talking Heads’ “Life During Wartime” into a dancefloor-ready version, while Misiu brings an early Italo track back into focus with a flowing, rework-focused approach. Early support from Greg Wilson and Ian Ossia confirmed the energetic response to the advance plays.

For his new take, Loveface leans on a striking, groove-driven structure that preserves the original’s distinctive stance while tightening up the bass and percussion so it really works on the floor; this treatment turns the song into a truly reliable club cut for the first time. In doing so, Loveface underlines his penchant for detail-oriented edit work that recontextualizes the familiar.

Misiu’s version of “Tarot” follows in the tradition of edit projects that made early Italo material accessible to DJs again — a history also illustrated by the early Idjut Boys re-edit revival of the track. The “El Compuesto Desconocido EP” by Absent Corps is a focused 12-inch release that brings together five tracks situated somewhere between ’90s New Beat, electro, Italobody, and darker shades of disco. The compositions center on distinctive basslines, precise drum machines, and a clear synth aesthetic that incorporates cinematic, sci-fi-inspired motifs, resulting in a sonic landscape that works both on the dance floor and for focused listening.

Absent Corps appears as an electronic project from Barcelona, drawing stylistically on the resurgent currents of the late ’80s and ’90s while reinterpreting them with contemporary production techniques. Florian Pelissier speaks about the project: “On tour in Brazil with Cotonete, we had a few days off in Sao Paulo and I really hoped to make a collaboration with an important artist or band from the Brazilian funk scene. We had thought of Marcos Valle, Meta Meta or Ed Motta... but Rafaela Prestes our Brazilian "sound ingineer/genious" told me: "I worked for the return of Di Melo in Rio 2 years ago. He rocks, he’s adorable and he lives in Sao Paulo, here’s his number, he would be perfect for Cotonete."
No sooner said than done. I'm a huge fan of Di Melo and had already tried to contact him for Cotonete 6 years ago. The next day, on a Sunday, he arrives at our house with Jo, his wife, and Gabi, his daughter. He takes the guitar in front of us in the kitchen, and gives us a private show of 3 hours… we cried the tears of joy.
He had 400 original songs never recorded, a gold mine. On the same night, we started working the arrangements for 2 days, followed by a rehearsal and two small gigs in Sao Paulo. Immediately after, we recorded in the magical Epsilon B studio. All with the participation of Gabi, his 10-year-old daughter, and future star.
This album is the summary of this moment, of these 5 days of madness spent together between “the best band in the world” and the legend Roberto Di Melo… Simple, beautiful, Brazilian-French, human music…”

The reissue of "Trip To Your Mind (Original Mixes)" brings together the long-sought original versions of the disco-funk classic on a 12-inch release on The Outer Edge label. In addition to the complete Hithouse version, the record includes the 1979 remix by Chris Hill & Robbie Vincent; since the original tapes were lost, the audio was transferred from the best available sources and meticulously restored, with the lacquer cut handled by SST. This edition comes in a faithful reproduction of the rare "Disco 45" sleeve and has been officially licensed by composer Reginald Hudson.

Musically, "Trip To Your Mind" occupies a crossroads between disco and jazz-funk: driving horn arrangements, a warm electric bass foundation, and plenty of space for extended instrumental passages define the track. The recording was made in late 1976 at London’s Advision Studios but remained unreleased until 1979; backing musicians included members of the U.S. Army band Body Heat, among them Tony Palmer (guitar), Herva Middleton (drums, vocals), Charles Walker (saxophone), Harvey Perry (trumpet, trombone), and Rickey (bass).

The track’s historical significance is reflected in its long-standing popularity among DJ circles and collectors, as well as in the numerous bootlegs and compilations that have appeared since the late 1990s. More recent reissues and reworks by Delfonic, LTJ Xperience, and others have further fueled interest; this edition now reconstructs the original mixes in the best possible sound quality and honors the status of Hudson People within the disco-funk scene.

The "Bourgié Bourgié Black Vinyl Edition" 12" by Ashford & Simpson is released on Groovin and brings together the original studio version of the track as well as an extended remix version. The A-side features the original version (about 6:07) and a version labeled as Director's Cut (around 8:30), while the B-side contains Joe Claussell’s Classic Remix (about 11:20), making this pressing both a collection of the original album version and the club version.

The track goes back to the 1977 album "Send It" and was originally conceived as an instrumental piece with pronounced disco influences; the composition is by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, who, alongside their career as performers, are best known as influential songwriters and producers in the history of soul and R&B.

The Joe Claussell version used for this 12" had previously been available mainly on CD compilations and is presented here for the first time in an extended vinyl format; Claussell’s rework stretches out the percussion and groove elements, thereby firmly situating the track in a club context.

Bringing together the original production by Ashford & Simpson with the subsequent remix work documents the track’s mutability between studio aesthetics and DJ-oriented dance culture and makes this 12" an interesting chapter in the afterlife of a classically rooted soul piece.

The 12-inch single Breakin' Out / Girl So Fine by Highscore brings together two previously unreleased tracks from the mid-1980s that were rediscovered on cassette decades later and prepared for release on vinyl. Both tracks show a clear focus on electro funk and boogie: driving drum machine grooves, bright synthesizer arpeggios, and distinctive guitar lines meet soulfully sung choruses, giving the songs a sound that is both danceable and densely arranged. The tracks were produced by Highscore; restoration, post-mix, and mastering were handled by Zoey Cairns, and the vinyl was cut by Frederic Stader.

Highscore is made up of musicians from the circle surrounding the Bremerhaven jazz-rock band Nuages: John Dillard (lead vocals, keyboards), Hermann Behrens (guitar, bass), and Mike Bach (keyboards, drums, percussion). The compositions are by Bach, Behrens, and Dillard; on Girl So Fine, guest vocalist Anka Gretner adds her voice to the mix. The story of the discovery—through the label’s research and the unearthing of cassette tapes—is part of the reissue production overseen by DJ Scientist.

This reissue, limited to 400 copies, comes in a newly designed picture sleeve featuring an original photo of the musicians involved, which also alludes to companions who did not perform on these two tracks. The release documents a previously little-known chapter of German funk production from the 1980s and offers both collectors and style-conscious listeners a carefully restored piece of musical history.

The 12" release "Rising Star / Deep Song" brings together two rare recordings from producer Richard Hewson’s archives and is released on Rush Hour. The record reveals early stages of Hewson’s studio work and shines a light on seldom-heard variations of his later project, The RAH Band.

"Rising Star (Cosmix)" began in 1984 as a vocal single with Debbie Sharp; Hewson transformed the original into a percussive, cosmic disco take he aptly titled "Cosmix." For this new version, he made targeted use of his newly acquired Bel delay effect unit, which at the time enabled key experiments in his home studio and shaped the track with echo and spatial textures. This version emphasizes rhythmic layering and a playful handling of delay effects.

"Deep Song" goes back even further, to the late‑seventies phase of Richard Hewson Orchestra productions, and forms the creative blueprint from which The RAH Band would later emerge. Hewson wrote, produced, and assembled the basic track at home before adding strings and vocals on top; the composition was strongly influenced by his admiration for Miles Davis’s "Kind of Blue" and was originally released in 1979 as a B-side under an enigmatic alias.

This single is extremely rare among collectors worldwide. A 1983 boogie funk gem.

In the vast universe of Black American music—where established names dominate the narrative—there are parallel stories built on rare records, limited pressings, and raw talent. Jefferson Ink is one of those cases: a group largely invisible to the general public, yet deeply respected among collectors and specialist DJs.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Jefferson Ink was a family-based project led by Willie Jefferson Jr., rooted in a vibrant and self-sufficient local scene. Far removed from major labels, the group operated within the independent ethos that defined many African American acts of the 1970s and ’80s—where self-production was often the only path to getting music recorded and released.

Their discography is scarce, which has only increased its value over time. Releases on local imprints such as Houston International Records and B & B Records circulated in very limited quantities, often only within the region. Among these gems is the single “Fight The Pipe” and "Girl, you turn me on" now regarded as a cult classic in the rare groove circuit.

Musically, Jefferson Ink perfectly captures the transition from the analog funk of the 1970s to the rise of boogie and electro-funk in the following decade. Their recordings are defined by heavy basslines, mechanical grooves, and the tasteful use of synthesizers, forming a solid rhythmic foundation over which smooth, flowing melodies unfold. There is a constant tension between weight and lightness—between groove density and melodic elegance—that shapes the group’s identity.

What makes Jefferson Ink particularly compelling is the fact that they never achieved mainstream recognition. For decades, their music remained confined to local circles and discerning collectors. It was only with the rise of DJ culture and the rediscovery of boogie that their name began to resurface—appearing in compilations, DJ sets, and “hidden gems” lists.

Today, to speak of Jefferson Ink is to speak of a specific kind of legacy: music that survives outside the industry, preserved through passion, crate-digging, and collective memory. In a world where everything seems accessible, there is something profoundly special about records that still carry both the weight of obscurity and the glow of rediscovery. Jefferson Ink is not just a rare group—it is a reminder that some of music’s best stories live on the margins.

For almost 10 years and with 3 albums on the clock, Voilaaa has established itself with a unique style, reviving
African rhythms and atmospheres in the colors of Disco dancefloors and Funky arrangements, all often
accompanied by lyrics and vocals tinged with humor and commitment.
As a result, the Afro-Tropical adventure launched by producer Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart today leaves behind
a host of hits (“On te l’avait dit”, “Spies Are Watching Me”, “Ben Bene La”, …), as well as trips around the globe
and as many gigs and festivals, but also and above all numerous and lasting collaborations with singers like

As on the already famous “Faché” alongside Pat Kalla, which displays all the classic assets of Voilaaa’s sound:
punchy Afrobeat horns, woozy chords and crunchy clavinet licks rising above a low-slung, hypnotic, dub discomeets-
Afro-boogie groove. The rest of the album is not to be outdone with a total of 14 wild tracks entirely
composed by an unstoppable Bruno Hovart.
Two exceptions confirm the rule, a beautiful interpretation of the song "Love and Death" by Ebo Taylor, where
Voilaaa's Afro skills perfectly melt with Angolan and Brazilian vapors, beamed by Joao Selva's lovely vocals; as
well as a magical cover of “Too Young to Die”, transporting Jamiroquai to the crossroads of Africa and the

Another Taste's debut brings together a blend of boogie, 70’s funk and obscure disco - birthed from unearthing forgotten sounds and reinventing them for the modern era. A recipe they’ve been cooking up successfully over the last years in the studio, through their label Space Grapes and on tour through some of Europe’s finest stages.

Another Taste is a Rotterdam-born concept band formed by a group of longtime friends, consisting of Bobby van Putten (keys), Bob Roche (bass), Barend Lippens (keys) and Teun van Zoggel (drums).

Inspired by the obscurity and the do-it-yourself approach of private press culture of the late 1970s and 80s, their first releases were mostly a product of late night sessions between the four of them at the studio of their co-producer Danilo Plessow (mcde), leading to the founding of Space Grapes Records.

The band’s first songs were released under various pseudonyms such as Mad Honey, Galxtc or Jambonne and quickly gathered them a loyal following and support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope and many more.

Another Taste ripples their sound beyond the studio and onto the stage. In their live performances they introduce additional band members in Sarina Voorn (Vox), Diogo Carvalho (percussion) and Florian Verhagen (guitar). A core group with whom they’ve played at prestigious festivals such as Worldwide or Kappa Futur and legendary venues such as Jazz Cafe London, New Morning Paris, and Tresor Berlin.

The March-scheduled album release is the latest iteration of the band’s evolution. From the A-side opener "Turn Up" to the B-side closer "Perfect Night," the album is a testament to Another Taste’s ceaseless creative exploration. The 12" "Me Voy Ahora Joaquin Joe Claussell Remixes Purple Vinyl Edition," released on Fania, places Ismael Miranda’s voice in a new context: classic salsa elements are reshaped by Joaquin “Joe” Claussell into long, dance‑oriented arrangements for the club setting. The release is a spin‑off of the work Claussell undertook with the Africa‑Caribe project drawn from the Fania archives and is aimed at both DJs and collectors.

The A‑side offers an extended "Joaquin’s Boriqua Version," in which percussion, trumpet, piano, and string‑like layers are woven into a dense Latin house fabric; the length and clarity of the individual instruments give the production room to unfold. On the B‑side there is a more compact "Joaquin’s Latin 12" Dub Version," which pares back rhythmic elements and shifts the focus to spatial effects and DJ‑friendliness. Both versions follow Claussell’s approach of rearranging original tracks while combining organic playing with modern production tools.

Ismael Miranda, a core member of the Fania family since the late 1960s, stands for classic New York salsa with distinctive phrasing and strong sonero roots; his voice forms the unifying core of these remixes. Picked up by Tap Records impresario Jeremiah Yisrael, Jackie spent the lion’s share of 1982 in the studio with Yisrael, the prolific Gene Redd and dozens of musicians, including purportedly Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra.

Ten songs were recorded over the course of the year, and two of the standouts are pressed loud and proud on either side of this limited 7 inch. First up the funk-fuelled, slick and stylish disco number ‘Flying High’, pressed for the first time ever to vinyl. ‘Guilty’ takes the B, one of the last songs Gene Redd would ever pen and some of the finest production work in a career that spanned four decades. Two lost Disco classics appearing for the first time on a single 12” featuring soul legend Leon Ware and Jo Ann Harris, a little known backing singer for Bob Dylan throughout the 80s.

Both songs originally appeared on the ‘20 Minute Workout’ Video and LP released in 1983 by Canadian label Ronco, ‘What Does It Take’ providing an uptempo crescendo to the third part of the workout and ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ the final warm down track. Licensed from producer Ira Newborn, Hollywood soundtrack royalty who composed the scores for an incredible run of films including The Blues Brothers, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Naked Gun trilogy, Weird Science, Ace Ventura and Uncle Buck. Ira’s lawyer persuaded him to get involved in the project for Ronco and it was Ira who hand picked Leon Ware and Jo Ann Harris to add vocals to two tracks to aid the commercial potential of the album.

There are two original versions backed with extended instrumentals sourced from a rare Lazer Disc Version of the album. It feels right to shine a light on one of Leon Ware’s lesser known performances, whilst the Jo Ann Harris cut has a distinct Balearic air featuring sultry keys and sax at a tempo of 98 BPM.

Parbleu returns with the new single ”Elegua”, backed by ”Peut-être Fous”, offering a first glimpse into the music that the Naples-based five-piece collective, with Andres Balbucea and Andrea De Fazio at the creative helm, has been crafting over the past several years. Together, the two tracks distill the band's distinctive blend of Mediterranean futurism and equatorial groove into irresistible dancefloor excursions. "Elegua", the first single, will be available on all streaming platforms on July 15. The physical 7" release follows on September 18, alongside the digital release of the B-side "Peut-être Fous". ”Elegua” is a percussive, trance-driven piece built on layered Afro-Caribbean rhythms, circular harmonic motion and warm foundation of analogue synthesizers. Conceived as a ritual opening, it creates a gateway into a playful and spiritual sonic world shaped by polyrhythms and Yoruba call-and-response vocals inspired by traditional Orisha praise chants. Invoking Elegua, the Orisha of crossroads and destiny in the Santería tradition, the track is elevated by a children’s choir whose ceremonial presence amplifies its ancestral spirit while carrying an unmistakable sense of joy. ”Peut-être Fous”, by contrast, pairs nostalgic harmonies with a steady club groove. A funk-inflected electric bass, doubled by synth bass, provides a warm, weighty foundation for the delicate plucked lines of the ngoni, a traditional West African string instrument. Classical guitar and analogue synthesizers add shimmering harmonic layers, resulting in a tropical disco track where hypnotic grooves, nostalgia and surreal warmth coexist effortlessly. Parbleu is a multicultural fever dream born in Naples, Italy, emerging from the creative partnership between Andres Balbucea (vocals and keyboard) and Andrea De Fazio (drums) as a five-piece collective — completed by Vincenzo Lamagna (bass), Alessio Pignorio (guitar) and Paolo “Batà” Bianconcini (percussion) — blending Mediterranean warmth with global grooves rooted in the musical heritage of Naples. The group merges French, Arabic, and Neapolitan influences into a distinctive musical language that moves effortlessly between disco, funk, Afro-tropical rhythms, and cinematic jazz fusion. The project took shape in 2020 during lockdown, a period marked by sadness and uncertainty. In that suspended moment, the duo began to imagine a sonic island, a joyful oasis to escape into. From that creative refuge came their debut album Danse Cette Zik (Periodica Records, 2020), offering the first glimpse of the colorful world that quickly positioned Parbleu as one of the most intriguing new voices in the global groove scene. In 2023, Parbleu expanded their sound with their sophomore release, Elios (Periodica Records, 2023). A cosmic disco-funk album, Elios deepens their exploration of Mediterranean futurism through sun-drenched harmonies, hypnotic rhythms and multilingual vocals, blurring the boundaries between club culture, contemporary jazz and musical traditions from around the world. In 2024, Parbleu continued to expand their creative world with the singles ”Père-du-Perdu” and ”Flash Solaire”, created in collaboration with the Dutch-Surinamese musician, producer, and thinker Arp Frique.
