The “Take Me With You” 7" by Lyn Christopher and Tyrone & Carr is released as a split single on Dynamite Cuts, bringing together two recordings of the same soul classic. Lyn Christopher’s A-side is based on the original American version from 1973, whose deep bassline and smooth groove form the core of the track. Her distinctive voice gives the song a sensual yet powerful presence. “Take Me With You” is one of the best-known recordings in Christopher’s catalog and was later sampled by hip-hop artists as well.

The B-side features the British version by Tyrone & Carr, which was released the same year on Jam Records, an imprint of DJM. The “Here I Am Baby” LP by Lady Jane is released on Athens Of The North and brings singer Jane Brice’s only studio LP back to light after decades. The reissue is based on sessions recorded in the late 1970s at Studio A in Dearborn Heights; tracked with engineer Eric Morgeson and a studio band, the material was largely written by her then husband and was originally issued in 1980 as a private press.

The re-release became possible after a chance discovery in 2022 sparked the idea for a reissue and Brice’s then husband, shortly before his death, returned the original master tapes to her; from these, the rediscovered multitracks and additional previously unreleased material emerged. Newly remastered from those tapes, “Here I Am Baby” documents a singer who moves between soul, funk, and disco, delivering both delicate ballads and driving funk numbers.

Alongside its quieter opening tracks, the record includes raw funk excursions such as “Never Lived In The Ghetto” and “Space Flight”; the closing track, “She’s A Star,” is the only song written by Jane herself and addresses her personal survival story in a direct way. Jane Brice, now an ordained pastor, had withdrawn from the scene for decades; this LP presents her voice in full presence and with surprising openness.

From the psychedelic funk of local stars Sugar Ice Tea and Cryptus Confession to the Latin influences of visiting musicians like Puerto Rican star Mon Rivera via Surinamese-influenced soul and the garage rock of Los Honda, the islands nourished a huge array of styles and talent. Antiyano Progresivo unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly transforming Caribbean. During the twentieth century, oil industries, migration and tourism reshaped the islands, creating unparalleled cultural exchange while deepening social divisions. African, Latin American, North American and European musical traditions intertwined with local forms, producing a rich and distinctive musical landscape. Tambú, tumba, calypso and Caribbean dance music coexisted alongside soul, funk, psychedelic rock, reggae, Latin music and American and British pop. Musicians moved fluidly between these styles, developing sounds that were unmistakably local while remaining connected to wider currents across the Caribbean and beyond. The period also coincided with growing movements for cultural and political self determination. Events such as Curaçao's Trinta di Mei uprising in 1969, the emergence of Black Power movements and increasing calls for greater autonomy fostered renewed pride in African heritage, local languages and cultural expression. These ideas resonated through music, inspiring artists to challenge conventions and create work that reflected changing identities.

A close look at the full scope of Masayoshi Takanaka’s legendary concert "rainbow Goblins Story"! This release captures the legendary two-day concert held at Nippon Budokan on March 10 and 11, 1981, the very day and the day after the release of Masayoshi Takanaka’s masterpiece "The Rainbow Goblins." The first part recreates on stage the concept album "The Rainbow Goblins," which Takanaka created based on the inspiration he drew from Italian painter Ul de Rico’s picture book "The Rainbow Goblins," while the second part is made up of Masayoshi Takanaka’s hit songs. Now, for the first time, that full performance sees the light of day as a single audio work.

A huge rainbow neon arch stretched across the stage, with its seven colors lighting up in various patterns in sync with the music. Combined with what was then a state-of-the-art laser show and a mountain-like stack of equipment onstage, it created a fantastical world. The seven musicians appeared wearing costumes in different goblin image colors, while Takanaka, dressed in a yellow jumpsuit with rainbow-colored hair, played a rainbow-colored Yamaha SG. The world of "The Rainbow Goblins" that Masayoshi Takanaka, already at the peak of his popularity as one of Japan’s leading guitarists, brought to life onstage returns now, on its 45th anniversary, with vivid sound. The analog edition consists of three LPs in clear lime yellow, clear red, and clear blue, evoking both the three primary colors of light and the colors of the rainbow Yamaha SG Takanaka played in the first part of the concert. It also comes with a booklet packed with photographs capturing this fantastical stage production created with the latest technology of the time. Mastering and analog cutting were handled by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios London. Liner notes are by Masayoshi Kondo and Yoshinobu Maruyama.

In the early 90s, led by Nicola Conte, the Fez collective in Bari, Italy, reshaped contemporary jazz through groove, experimentation and a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility. Within this environment the earliest recordings associated with what would become Schema Records first appeared, released at the time through Right Tempo. With a series of three 45rpm releases Schema Records revisits some of its earliest productions, all newly remastered from the original masters. The first 7” in this series includes Quintetto X’s reinterpretation of Marcos Valle’s classic “Mentira”, here proposed in a completely new format, as a two-part composition, unfolding across both sides of a 45 rpm single. As the saying goes, ‘There's nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come’. 50 years since Michael Orr and Carey Harris self-released Spread Love, this iconic underground cult masterpiece is finally getting the attention it deserved all along. A timeless release, with a sound, production and level of songwriting that could go toe-to-toe with the best, it was passed over by a number of labels back in ’75, leading to Michael and Carey putting it out themselves. Spread Love radiates with a message that is as pertinent as ever - heartfelt lyrics and soaring melodies covering a spectrum of genres including modern and classic soul, gospel, early disco, and jazz-funk.

Raised in Detroit before moving to rural West Virginia, Michael learned to play piano at a young age. Those early influences of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and many more, led him to form a band who played local ‘sock hops’ as well as getting paid $5 a week at aged 14 to play piano for the church choir.

Fast forward 10 years, and whilst working for the local county, Michael would travel back home every lunch to write songs on his baby grand in his basement. His dream was to be a songwriter, and his intention was never the limelight. He penned ‘Feelings’ with Gladys Knight in mind and sent it to his childhood friend Carey Harris, who was the bassist in her band. Gladys liked it but didn’t think it fit with where she was going at the time. That initial rejection sparked the idea of Carey and Michael recording it themselves. With the help of Michael’s wife who sold some of her possessions to fund the studio time, they recorded the album at Agency Recording Studio in Cleveland alongside one of the O'Jays drummers Ricardo “Ricky Speed” Nixon, Adolph Burton and Bernardine Mitchell.

That DIY drive paved the way for the now-iconic cover, with Michael’s sister-in-law painting the genie and rainbow and his brother drawing the sun / star logo for what became their record label. Spread Love’s time though hadn’t come. No matter how many Michael could sell to shops out of the boot of his car, the message couldn’t reach far enough to break it out to the wider world – ultimately putting him in a 50-year hiatus.

Spread Love is most known for its sublime anthemic title track. A celestial, soul-rousing cut with a message which feels more apt than ever. The album though is stacked start to finish with gems. There’s a balance between beauty and sadness in the modern-soul dancer ‘Here I Go (Through These Changes Again)’, a song that Johnnie Taylor would later cover. It features a superb vocal performance by Michael reminiscent of Gil Scott-Heron. Elsewhere, Bernardine Mitchell takes the place of Gladys Knight for ‘Feelings’ with her vocals resonating deep down inside.

Other highlights include the opening song, ‘Ecstasy, Fantasy & Dreamland’ - it is sheer brilliance with an awesome flute solo by Michael Neal. Then there’s ‘A Piece Of Mine’ an early disco/jazz-funk instrumental with vibraphone by Bernard James, whilst ‘You Opened My Eyes To The World’ has a Strata East jazz meets soul quality that is spacey, uplifting, and spiritual.

It’s been a joy working with Michael and his son Jamal, who restored and remastered the original tapes, to reissue this forgotten gem and spread that love all over the world.

Susana Estrada was one of the muses and main figures from the period known as ‘Transition’ in Spain. No other woman represented better than her the freedom and sexual revolution which the country experienced in the 70s after the end of the dictatorship.

A truly erotic Goddess, Susana was a model, singer and actress and one of the first women to perform fully-naked plays in Spain. She appeared in numerous erotic magazines and movies and her famous sexual counselling column for Play-Lady magazine caused a big commotion at the time. She reached fame with her erotic musical plays like “Historias Del Strip-Tease”, “Muñecas” (where she simulated to have sex with a robot!) or “Machos”.

As a singer, in 1980 Susana released her first 45 for the Belter label from Barcelona: “Machos” / “Acaríciame”. Produced by Josep Lobell and Manuel Gas, it contained two sexy disco tracks which paved the way for her first LP, “Amor y Libertad” (Love and Freedom), released on the Belter sub-label Sauce in 1981. Produced by Cosmic Disco pioneer Josep Llobell (Oliver’s Planet), this is a real fest of 80s Italo Disco, Munich Sound, Boogie, Funk and Modern Soul. The fabulous, minimal production of Llobell collides with the sensual vocals and moanings of Susana, singing about sexual liberation and freedom. Of course, when the album was originally released, nobody understood it. Criminally underrated for many years, “Amor y Libertad” has now become a cult item in the international Cosmic Disco scene.

But in 1980, a strange cassette by Susana called “Machos” was also released on the Belter label. It featured music and songs from the play of the same name. There, we can find “Espacial” (seven minutes of robotic funk and Space Cosmic Disco) and “Hagamos el amor” (“Let’s make love”), another sexadelic funk track much in the vein of the ones included on “Amor y Libertad”.

On this comp, you’ll find the entire “Amor y Libertad” album except the two tracks which were not in a disco / funk vein (“Ven” and “Arena y mar”), plus “Machos” ( a Celi Bee & the Buzzy Bunch cover), “Acaríciame” from the first Belter 45 and two tracks from the “Machos” cassette: “Espacial” and “Hagamos el amor”. We’ve also included a previously unreleased track courtesy of Susana: “Tócame”, recorded in 2007, in a High Energy Euro Disco vein.

The latest in our series of Limited Edition 7x7" Soul Box Sets celebrates the work of Dave Hamilton.

Dave's musical career in Detroit stretched from the 40s into the 80s. He was involved in all black music styles during that period - blues, jazz, and gospel as well as soul music. A talented songwriter, he wrote or contributed to ten of the fourteen compositions here and produced them all in his studios. Though his released output was modest, considering the amount of recording he did, the gems in his tape vaults have been surprising and entertaining black music lovers since they were accessed by Ace in 1990. That purchase came about due to Richard “Gilly” Gilbert’s detective work in discovering that a big covered-up Northern Soul spin at Wigan Casino was actually Dave’s production on “Little Ann” Bridgeforth. The ensuing years have seen soul tracks in all genres, issued on Kent and BGP and we are still discovering great tracks 36 years on. Witness ‘You Got Me Where You Want Me’ by Chico & Buddy, a fabulous funky number from around 1970 that would have been a soul fan’s favourite whenever it was issued; this is its first public appearance. Funk crosses over to all dance scenes these days and even jazzier tracks like Dave’s own ‘Soul Suite’, a close relation of his coveted ‘Pisces Piece’ will pick up plays now it is on vinyl. Northern Soul lovers have been demanding J T Rhythm’s ‘I Love The Way You Walk’ on a seven, as have Motown connoisseurs with Rita DuShay’s original of ‘All I Need (Steal Away Tonight)’ as covered by Barbara McNair on her 1966 Motown LP. Original copies exist of the Ravins ‘Your Love Is What I Want’ but unless you have several grand to spare on this fast and furious dancer, our audio-enhanced release is a great substitute; especially with the Kent 45 deleted. OC Tolbert delivers a tough and menacing Clarence Reid song ‘Along Came A Woman’ which has huge dancefloor potential, like Dave’s own bluesy vocal on his similarly gritty, R&B composition ‘Take Care Of Your Own Business’. Dave’s accomplishments into the 70s and 80s are admired by modern soul lovers and his ‘Ride The Disco Train’ by the Moderations, hit a perfect groove for progressive clubs of the genre. Both the Felecia Johnson and New Experience tracks thrive on the laid-back atmosphere Dave was able to conjure up in his home studios and the talented singers present his thoughtful songs with panache. With enhanced audio for both of Little Ann’s uptempo and ballad classics ‘What Should I Do’ / ‘Deep Shadows’ this box set is irresistible as well as being a tribute to the unsung heroes of Detroit Soul music.

The clear vinyl edition of the “Memoria” LP by Carmen Villain is released on Smalltown Supersound and brings together seven compositional miniatures that consistently work with space, memory, and sonic deconstruction.

Musically, “Memoria” continues the boundless approach Carmen Villain is known for: a weave of ambient dub textures, fragmented melodies, and delicate electronic refinements. The pieces make use of recurring breath and breathing sounds, noise-soaked brass fragments, and abstracted clarinet lines, resulting in a sound image that is contemplative and physical at the same time. The compositions draw impulses from deep listening practice and the idea of internally remembered sounds.

The material emerged from a combination of new recordings and rich archive sounds; sessions with Johanna Orellana on flutes and Eivind Lønning on trumpet were condensed into a multi-layered sample pool and further processed electronically. Melodic fragments recede in favor of textures, so the production more often feels like an acoustic memory fragment than a conventional song format.

“Memoria” presents Carmen Villain as an artist balancing between improvisational presence and studio-based experimentation. The clear vinyl pressing emphasizes the airy nuances and subtle dynamic shifts of the recordings, making vinyl a fitting medium for this dense, slowed-down sonic landscape.

The "Guitar Heroes: The Decca Years 1965–1967 Limited" LP by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers is released on Fontana and brings together key releases from the Decca years. The edition documents the period when Mayall’s band served as a launching pad for guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Mick Taylor, and presents the corresponding studio and live recordings in a compact compilation.

Musically, the collection traces the transition from traditional blues to British blues rock: Mayall’s prominent harmonica and keyboard work provides the framework, while the lead guitars define the harmonic and tonal profile. "The Spice of Life" is the second studio album by American singer Marlena Shaw and was originally released on Cadet Records in 1969. Today, the album is regarded as a timeless classic, masterfully blending soul, jazz, funk and blues. Tracks from the album have been widely sampled and have also featured in numerous commercials and even video games. The album includes two of Shaw’s best-known recordings: "California Soul", written by the legendary duo Ashford & Simpson, and "Woman of the Ghetto", a politically charged song co-written by Shaw herself. While the first volume, released in 2021, brought together previously released singles from the Colemine orbit, Volume 2 presents previously unreleased tracks and early mixes. The twelve selections were created as a preview of upcoming releases slated for 2027, and some titles had not yet been finalized when the compilation was assembled. At the same time, the LP is initially the only way to hear these recordings, as they have not yet been released digitally.

Musically, the selection ranges from modern funk and soul to instrumentals with a strong affinity for organ grooves, rhythm and blues, and psychedelic textures.
