Step into the world of visionary lyricism and unparalleled production with the re-release of Implicit Thoughts, the 2001 album from Oakland’s rapper L*Roneous and Los Angeles producer Elusive. Originally recorded between 1998 and 2001, this album now returns with six bonus tracks that take you deeper into the Dreamweavers’ creative universe. Known for his thought-provoking poetry, intricate riddles, and sharp lyrical prowess, L*Roneous continues to spit lyrical art with a unique cadence, as Elusive’s cinematic production and prototypical sound create the perfect backdrop. This re-release follows the success of L*Roneous’ debut album, Imaginarium (1998), which actually was the very first release of Dutch label Boombap Relickz.

Limited edition of 300 copies!

On their last trip to Silberland, Bureau B hurtled along the chrome highways and glass skyways of the kosmische landscape, powered ever onwards in perpetual motorik motion. This time, however, the Hamburg imprint opt for an unhurried itinerary, coasting far beyond the familiar rhythmic terrain to explore crystal caverns and emerald pastures, immersing listeners in the ambient side of this alternative Allemagne. Building on the tape loops, tone poems, and minimalist compositions of the 60"s avant-garde, these musicians utilised the sweeping scope of the synthesiser to create expansive meditations on outer-planetary escapism, human connection, and the natural world. This compilation offers a survey of this singular era, blending pioneering voices with lesser-known artists for an immersive sonic experience.

Limited Edition of 50 units worldwide. Not the same as the other Baby Blue or Swirl & Splatter Edition. Mock Up coming soon.

25th Anniversary (it’s first time being repressed) on limited edition vinyl packaged in an extra thick gatefold jacket with matte finish and printed lyrics inside.

He's naked! On Matthew, Kool Keith of Ultramagnetic MCs fame removes all of the capes, masks, plastic Elvis wigs, and warped rap personas (Dr. Octagon, Dr. Dooom, Big Willy Smith) he's recorded under over the years. On "27 Shots" Keith issues a challenge to dumb groupies, dumber MCs, and Keith wannabes. Likewise, on "Baddest MC" he rants on about the lack of individuality in the music industry, dissing male rappers who are so soft they "wear leg warmers and tights." He manages to keep it somewhat surreal on "I Don't Believe You," where he flaunts his patented unconventional rhyme scheme.

Produced by Kool Keith With Additional Production by KutMasta Kurt

Limited to 300 copies on white vinyl, exclusively available at HHV. Numbered.

At daybreak, as sunlight travels through the atmosphere and begins to reach Earth’s surface, daylight gradually emerges. This marks the transition from night to the beginning of a brand-new day. As the temperature rises—especially after clear, calm nights—relative humidity decreases, and mist, formed of tiny suspended droplets, begins to evaporate. Warm air rises and cool air sinks, creating an interplay of temperature, humidity and sunlight that gives way to a soft, diffuse glow. The sea breeze slowly clears the morning mist, setting life in motion once again as the world wakes up.

Daybreak is Sven Wunder’s fifth full-length album, seamlessly continuing the progression of his musical oeuvre. It takes the listener on a vivid maritime expedition, beginning the moment the first rays of light break the darkness of the night and embarking on a lush journey through the early hours of the day and far beyond, until the light slowly fades and night falls once again. True to Wunder’s now-distinctive artistry, Daybreak is marked by elaborately crafted compositions and elegant pop-jazz arrangements for flute, percussion, brass and strings—supported by a decisive rhythm section, all of which add depth and build on his body of work, continuing to unfold his creative path.

On the German market, 600 copies exclusively available at HHV.

Released on May 25, 2018, DAYTONA is the third studio album by Virginia-born rapper Pusha T, and widely regarded as a high point in his solo career. Clocking in at a mere seven tracks and 21 minutes, the album is a distilled, razor-sharp example of hip-hop minimalism, produced entirely by Kanye West as part of his G.O.O.D. Music "Wyoming Sessions." DAYTONA marries opulent drug-rap imagery with intricate lyricism, darkly cinematic production, and a defiant tone that rejects excess while reveling in it. In an era of streaming bloated albums, DAYTONA proved that brevity and focus can hit harder than volume.

Before DAYTONA, Pusha T had already earned his reputation as a formidable lyricist. As one-half of Clipse, alongside his brother No Malice, he built a cult following through albums like Lord Willin’ (2002) and Hell Hath No Fury (2006), both celebrated for their uncompromising tales of drug trafficking and gritty realism. As a solo artist under Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music, Pusha released My Name Is My Name (2013) and King Push – Darkest Before Dawn (2015), but it was DAYTONA that captured his most focused, lean, and fully realized vision. The album’s release was also part of a larger strategy: a series of five seven-track albums produced by Kanye West in 2018, including albums by Nas, Teyana Taylor, and West himself. DAYTONA was the first and arguably the strongest of the five. At its core, DAYTONA is a celebration of Pusha T’s mastery of his lane: luxury drug rap. But beneath the surface lies a deeper exploration of authenticity, longevity, and artistic excellence. On “If You Know You Know”, Pusha uses coded language and cryptic allusions to reflect his real-life knowledge of the drug trade, crafting a song that rewards deep listening and insider understanding. The Games We Play” flaunts wealth and wisdom gained through hustling, juxtaposing opulence with underlying menace. “Hard Piano” (featuring Rick Ross) luxuriates in fine living and lyrical dexterity, a modern mafioso anthem with gospel undertones. There’s also clear disdain for artificiality in the industry. On “Infrared”, Pusha reignites his feud with Drake, alluding to ghostwriting accusations and questioning the authenticity of pop-rap stars. The track would spark Drake’s response with “Duppy Freestyle” and Pusha’s scorched-earth reply, “The Story of Adidon”, which shook the hip-hop world.

In DAYTONA, every bar feels deliberate. Pusha delivers with an almost clinical precision, never wasting words, always in control.
Kanye West’s production on DAYTONA is among his most minimalist and eerie. The beats are skeletal yet rich in texture, making space for Pusha’s vocals while maintaining an atmosphere of menace and elegance.
The use of soul and psychedelic rock samples—like the distorted guitar loop on “Come Back Baby” or the ghostly soul vocals on “Santeria”—adds layers of emotional weight.
“What Would Meek Do?” features Kanye both as a producer and guest rapper, with jittery drums and haunting loops that reflect inner turmoil and moral conflict. The rawness of the production complements the cold precision of Pusha’s delivery. It’s an exercise in sonic restraint, where every sound counts—an antidote to the overproduced clutter of many contemporary rap albums.

DAYTONA was met with widespread critical acclaim: It received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. It holds one of the highest Metacritic scores for a rap album in its release year. Publications like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian praised it for its cohesion, focus, and elite lyricism. Critics lauded Pusha for doubling down on his strengths—his vivid drug narratives, his icy confidence, and his refusal to conform to modern trends. The album also revived interest in concise, album-oriented rap projects, influencing artists to prioritize quality over streaming numbers.

In addition, DAYTONA played a pivotal role in one of hip-hop’s most dramatic beefs of the decade. Its closing track, “Infrared,” directly led to a public war of words with Drake, culminating in “The Story of Adidon”—a diss track that exposed personal secrets and arguably shifted public perception of the rap heavyweight. DAYTONA is a masterclass in how to say more by saying less. In just seven tracks, Pusha T delivers some of the most incisive, menacing, and intelligent verses of his career. With Kanye West’s stripped-down yet luxurious production, the album becomes a cold, gleaming statement piece—an artifact of rap purity in an era of noise.

More than just a drug rap record, DAYTONA is a manifesto of discipline, integrity, and endurance. It affirms Pusha T not only as a veteran but as a torchbearer for lyrical excellence, authenticity, and unapologetic self-definition in hip-hop.

When Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was released on February 6, 2003, it marked a seismic shift in hip-hop. The debut studio album by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, backed by Eminem and Dr. Dre, fused gritty realism with commercial appeal. It did not merely introduce a new artist—it redefined the mainstream viability of gangsta rap in the early 2000s. The album's powerful storytelling, infectious hooks, and hard-hitting production made it one of the most significant debuts in hip-hop history.
Before releasing the album, 50 Cent had already endured a turbulent journey marked by crime, poverty, and near-death. Famously shot nine times in 2000, his survival and resilience became central to his narrative. His underground buzz, particularly through mixtapes like Guess Who's Back?, caught the attention of Eminem, who introduced him to Dr. Dre. Their combined endorsement not only elevated his credibility but gave the album access to world-class production and marketing support.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is deeply autobiographical. It chronicles 50 Cent's rise from the streets of South Jamaica, Queens, through tracks that balance menace, ambition, and introspection. The opening track, "What Up Gangsta", immediately establishes his aggressive persona. In "Many Men (Wish Death)", 50 addresses the attempt on his life with chilling clarity, turning trauma into triumph.

While much of the album centers on street life, there’s emotional depth in songs like "21 Questions", which explores romantic vulnerability. The album’s mix of violence, charm, and self-awareness creates a multi-dimensional portrait of the rapper as both a hardened survivor and an aspirational figure.

Musically, the album thrives on the chemistry between 50 Cent’s laid-back delivery and the polished beats from top-tier producers. Dr. Dre, Eminem, Sha Money XL, and others craft a soundscape that merges West Coast finesse with East Coast grit.

The lead single "In Da Club", produced by Dr. Dre, became a cultural phenomenon. With its minimalist beat and universal party hook ("Go shorty, it’s your birthday..."), it not only topped charts but became an anthem. Other tracks like "If I Can't", "Heat", and "Back Down" showcase the cinematic production style that characterized early 2000s hip-hop.

The album was a commercial juggernaut. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 872,000 copies in its first week. It would go on to sell over 15 million copies worldwide, earning multi-platinum status and spawning several hit singles.

Critics largely praised Get Rich or Die Tryin’ for its authenticity, catchy production, and 50 Cent’s charisma. Some noted its glorification of violence and criminality, but even detractors acknowledged its raw energy and cultural relevance.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ arrived at a time when the music industry was grappling with digital piracy and changing tastes. Its success helped rejuvenate commercial hip-hop and solidified 50 Cent as a global superstar. It launched a wave of G-Unit affiliated artists and merchandise, turning 50 into not just a rapper but a brand.

The album’s legacy endures over two decades later. It is frequently cited as one of the best debut albums in rap history and a defining work of 2000s hip-hop. Its influence can be heard in the music of artists who blend street sensibility with crossover ambition.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is more than a debut album—it is a statement of survival, ambition, and dominance. With its vivid storytelling, masterful production, and cultural resonance, it set the standard for what a hip-hop debut could achieve. 50 Cent’s transformation from underground mixtape artist to global icon was fueled by this album, making it a cornerstone in the genre’s history.

Released on June 7, 1994, Regulate... G Funk Era marked the debut of Warren G, a rapper and producer from Long Beach, California. As a pivotal album in the development of the G-Funk sound, it captured the essence of 1990s West Coast hip-hop with its smooth grooves, Parliament-Funkadelic samples, and relaxed, conversational flow. Best known for its iconic lead single “Regulate” featuring Nate Dogg, the album carved out a distinct niche between gangsta rap and radio-friendly funk, establishing Warren G as both a streetwise narrator and a chill ambassador of the California lifestyle
By the early 1990s, West Coast hip-hop was dominating the charts. Dr. Dre’s The Chronic (1992) had redefined the sonic palette of rap, blending laid-back funk instrumentation with gangsta-themed storytelling. This new subgenre, G-Funk, relied heavily on synthesizer leads, thick basslines, and samples from 1970s funk records.

Warren G was uniquely positioned in this movement. As the stepbrother of Dr. Dre and a founding member of the group 213 (with Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg), he was deeply entrenched in the Long Beach hip-hop scene. However, Warren’s style diverged from the harder edges of gangsta rap. His music emphasized coolness over aggression, storytelling over bravado, and melody over menace. The lyrical themes on Regulate... G Funk Era revolve around life in Southern California, including cruising, parties, the streets, loyalty, and resilience. But unlike many contemporaries, Warren G approaches these topics with a tone that is conversational, observational, and introspective rather than confrontational. The title track “Regulate”, built on a sample from Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgettin’,” tells a cinematic story of a nighttime encounter turned rescue mission. Nate Dogg’s smooth crooning contrasts beautifully with Warren’s cool-headed narrative flow. “Do You See” explores Warren’s perspective on community and perseverance, delivered with quiet confidence rather than boastfulness. Tracks like “This D.J.” (another hit single) emphasize Warren’s dual identity as rapper and beatmaker, paying homage to the culture of DJing while also enjoying his own success. Throughout the album, Warren G balances street credibility with a sense of everyday realism, often addressing adversity not with rage but with steady-minded clarity.

The production of Regulate... G Funk Era exemplifies the hallmarks of G-Funk: slow, rolling beats, melodic synthesizer leads, funk basslines, and prominent use of classic 1970s soul and funk samples. Warren G produced most of the album himself, showing off his ear for groove and mood rather than bombast. Heavy sampling from Funkadelic, Zapp, and Donny Hathaway.

The album was both a commercial triumph and a cultural milestone: Regulate... G Funk Era peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. It was certified triple platinum in the U.S., selling over 3 million copies. The single “Regulate” became one of the most iconic rap songs of the decade, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Critics praised Warren G for creating a cohesive, easygoing album that stood apart from the aggression and tension found in other rap records of the time. While some noted a lack of lyrical complexity, most agreed that his honesty and distinctive style made the album both refreshing and significant.

Regulate... G Funk Era solidified Warren G’s status as a key architect of the G-Funk movement. His ability to blend gangsta themes with soulful musicality opened new doors for hip-hop, paving the way for future artists who valued vibe, melody, and relatability. It also introduced the world to Nate Dogg, whose deep, melodic voice became a staple in West Coast rap and changed how hooks were delivered in hip-hop. The chemistry between Warren G and Nate Dogg on “Regulate” became legendary, setting the standard for rap-sung collaborations for years to come. Furthermore, the album remains a time capsule of 1990s California, encapsulating the sun-soaked streets, lowrider culture, and the everyday lives of people who lived between glamorized violence and genuine community.

Regulate... G Funk Era is not only a landmark debut—it’s a defining moment for an entire genre. With its smooth beats, laid-back attitude, and vivid storytelling, Warren G crafted an album that celebrated the West Coast lifestyle while offering a softer, more introspective take on the realities of urban life. In doing so, he helped shape the future of hip-hop, proving that you didn’t have to shout to be heard. The album remains a testament to balance: between street and soul, narrative and groove, hardness and harmony.

Released on June 28, 1988, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back by Public Enemy was more than just a hip-hop album—it was a revolutionary manifesto. Crafted at the height of America’s political and racial tensions in the 1980s, the album represented a seismic moment in music history. Combining aggressive beats, densely layered samples, and politically charged lyrics, Public Enemy redefined the possibilities of hip-hop as both an art form and a tool for resistance. This album did not merely speak to its era—it shattered boundaries and set the stage for the genre’s evolution into a platform for social critique.

Public Enemy, founded by Chuck D and Flavor Flav, emerged from Long Island, New York, as part of the burgeoning Def Jam roster. While many hip-hop acts focused on party themes and street narratives, Public Enemy brought militant consciousness and scholarly depth to their music. Their 1987 debut, Yo! Bum Rush the Show, laid the groundwork, but it was with their sophomore effort, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, that their message and sound truly coalesced.

The late 1980s in America were defined by crack epidemics, rising incarceration rates, and growing racial divisions. Against this backdrop, Public Enemy’s radical voice resonated as a necessary confrontation with systemic oppression, police brutality, and media bias.

The album’s revolutionary message is amplified by its groundbreaking sound, engineered by the production team The Bomb Squad. Rather than relying on simple loops or sparse arrangements, they crafted a dense, chaotic, layered wall of sound. Utilizing dozens of samples per track—ranging from James Brown to Malcolm X speeches—the Bomb Squad created a musical collage that was as aggressive and complex as the album’s themes.

The production’s intensity was radical for the time. The noise, distortion, and overlapping samples made the listening experience almost overwhelming—mirroring the social and political upheaval Public Enemy sought to capture.

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back was a cultural earthquake. It debuted at #42 on the Billboard 200, but its influence far exceeded chart rankings. It brought politics to the forefront of hip-hop in an uncompromising way and made it clear that the genre could be a tool of resistance and enlightenment.

The album inspired countless artists—from Ice Cube and Tupac Shakur to Rage Against the Machine and Kendrick Lamar—to use their platforms for social critique. Academics and activists praised the album for its educational value, and it became a staple in discussions of race, media, and American culture.

It was also a turning point for hip-hop journalism, as critics began to take the genre seriously as an art form with cultural weight. Public Enemy proved that rap could rival punk rock and folk in terms of political urgency.

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back is more than a collection of songs—it is a sonic battle cry against oppression. Public Enemy transformed hip-hop into a vehicle for truth-telling, challenging its listeners to think critically and act defiantly. With Chuck D’s commanding presence, Flavor Flav’s anarchic energy, and the Bomb Squad’s explosive production, the album broke molds and built new foundations. Over three decades later, its messages remain urgent, its sounds still jarring, and its impact undeniable.

In 1997, after a five-year hiatus and a highly publicized breakup, the iconic Long Island hip-hop duo EPMD (Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith) reunited to release Back in Business. As one of the most respected groups in golden age hip-hop, EPMD’s return was both nostalgic and forward-looking—a reaffirmation of their legacy and a reinvention for a new era. With its classic funk samples, no-nonsense lyrical delivery, and cohesive production, Back in Business served as a statement that EPMD was still a force to be reckoned with in a rapidly evolving rap landscape.

Background and Significance of the Reunion
EPMD (Erick and Parrish Making Dollars) debuted in 1988 with the influential album Strictly Business, known for its sample-heavy, funk-laced beats and laid-back flows. Over the next few years, they helped shape the East Coast sound with albums like Unfinished Business and Business Never Personal. However, internal conflicts—exacerbated by alleged financial disputes and even a home invasion incident—led to their breakup in 1992.

The rap world changed dramatically during their absence. By the mid-1990s, the East Coast had undergone a revival with Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and The Notorious B.I.G., while the West Coast had reached mainstream dominance. Against this backdrop, Back in Business was a significant return—not just for EPMD, but for fans of foundational boom-bap hip-hop who welcomed the return of one of the genre’s pioneering duos.

Themes and Lyrical Approach
EPMD’s lyrical style had always favored cool confidence over aggression, and Back in Business stayed true to this formula. Erick and Parrish didn’t attempt to chase trends—they stuck to what they knew: braggadocio, industry commentary, and funk-laced party anthems.

In tracks like “Richter Scale”, they reassert their status with lines that celebrate lyrical skill and authenticity.

“Da Joint”, the album’s lead single, became a moderate hit thanks to its infectious hook and hard-hitting beat, proving that their chemistry hadn’t faded.

Songs like “Last Man Standing” and “You Gots 2 Chill ’97” nod to their past glories while subtly modernizing their approach.

Rather than preaching or provoking, EPMD’s tone is one of self-assured mastery—they know they’ve influenced the game and are here to reclaim their space without having to shout about it.

Production and Sound
One of EPMD’s trademarks was their sample-driven production, particularly their reliance on funk, soul, and rock samples—drawing heavily from artists like Zapp, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Roger Troutman. On Back in Business, this aesthetic remains intact but gets a subtle update to match the polished sound of the late ’90s.

The production, largely handled by Erick Sermon, is clean, bass-heavy, and groove-centric. While not as densely layered as earlier work, the beats still slap—especially on tracks like:

“Never Seen Before” – minimalist, punchy, and hypnotic.

“K.I.M. (Keep It Movin’)” – with its laid-back, head-nodding vibe.

“Do It Again” – which rides a classic sample with effortless swagger.

Compared to the maximalist sound of contemporaries like Wu-Tang or the polished flashiness of Bad Boy Records, EPMD’s approach felt stripped-down and intentional—a reminder of rap’s early funk roots.

Critical and Commercial Reception
Back in Business debuted to moderate commercial success, reaching #14 on the Billboard 200 and reaffirming the duo’s relevance. The single “Da Joint” charted well on hip-hop radio and became a cult favorite, receiving regular rotation on stations and music video channels.

Critics largely welcomed the album, praising the duo’s chemistry and Erick Sermon’s production in particular. While some reviewers noted that it didn’t push boundaries or explore new territory, others admired it for precisely that reason: EPMD stayed true to themselves and their original sound in a time of rapid change.

For long-time fans, the album felt like a homecoming.

Legacy and Place in Hip-Hop History
Though Back in Business is not considered EPMD’s most innovative or classic work, it remains a crucial part of their discography. It signaled the viability of legacy acts in hip-hop—artists who could return from hiatus and still deliver high-quality material without compromising their identity.

Moreover, the album’s release contributed to a broader ’90s hip-hop renaissance of sorts, where veterans like KRS-One, Rakim, and Gang Starr continued to thrive amid new waves of talent. EPMD’s return showed that the old school hadn’t been forgotten—and still had much to say.

Their influence is evident in generations of artists who value production, groove, and a cool-headed delivery—particularly in the East Coast’s underground scene and among producer-MC duos.

Conclusion
Back in Business is not just an album title—it’s a mission statement. With their signature blend of funk-infused beats and smooth-but-authoritative flows, EPMD reminded the world that classic hip-hop values never go out of style. While the album may not have broken new ground, it reaffirmed their place in the pantheon of hip-hop legends. It was a confident, stylish, and above all, authentic return—exactly what longtime fans had hoped for, and a lesson in staying true to one’s artistic roots in an ever-shifting genre.

Released on February 25, 2014, Oxymoron marked ScHoolboy Q’s major-label debut and his most thematically ambitious project to date. As a member of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE)—alongside Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock—Q emerged from the West Coast’s revitalized rap movement with a style that blended gritty realism, infectious energy, and psychological depth. Oxymoron is an album of contradictions, as its title suggests: it explores the highs and lows of gang life, addiction, fatherhood, and fame with unflinching honesty and sonic unpredictability. The result is a raw, aggressive, yet reflective body of work that solidified ScHoolboy Q’s place in modern hip-hop. Before reaching the mainstream, Quincy Hanley, a.k.a. ScHoolboy Q, had already cultivated a cult following with mixtapes and independent releases like Setbacks and Habits & Contradictions. His affiliation with the Hoover Crips, time in prison, and battles with addiction gave his music an authenticity that wasn’t fabricated—it was lived.

Signed to Interscope through TDE, Oxymoron represented both a personal milestone and a broader moment for West Coast rap. In the wake of Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, all eyes were on Q to deliver a follow-up statement that would affirm TDE’s growing dominance.
At its core, Oxymoron is about duality: the tension between darkness and light, violence and vulnerability, self-destruction and self-preservation. Tracks like “Hoover Street” and “Gangsta” dive into Q’s upbringing in gang territory, painting vivid portraits of family dysfunction, survival, and learned violence. On the haunting “Prescription / Oxymoron”, he tackles his mother’s prescription drug addiction alongside his own struggles with Xanax and Oxycontin, using a chilling double narrative to explore generational trauma.“Blind Threats” (featuring Raekwon) takes a more philosophical tone, questioning morality, religion, and loyalty amid chaos. Yet Q balances these heavy themes with bursts of energy and humor. Tracks like “Collard Greens” (with Kendrick Lamar) and “Man of the Year” are club-ready, high-octane records that still carry undertones of emptiness and escapism. The album’s title, Oxymoron, is more than a clever name—it is a structural and emotional framework, reflecting a man caught between two worlds: one he wants to escape, and one he can’t quite leave behind.

Oxymoron debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, a significant achievement for an artist who had spent years on the underground circuit. The album was both a commercial breakthrough and a critical success:
Critics praised its gritty realism, dense production, and unapologetic voice. It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Songs like “Studio” (featuring BJ the Chicago Kid) became crossover hits, introducing Q’s unique style to wider audiences.
While not as narrative-driven as good kid, m.A.A.d city, Oxymoron was lauded for its visceral honesty and refusal to sanitize Q’s experiences for mainstream appeal.
Oxymoron stands as a landmark album not only for ScHoolboy Q, but for gritty, street-level hip-hop in the 2010s. It showed that vulnerability and violence could coexist in rap without being romanticized. Q positioned himself as an anti-hero, both lovable and loathsome, real and flawed.

He also proved that you don’t have to be a traditional storyteller to make a statement—sometimes fractured truths, scattered across a chaotic soundscape, paint a more honest picture of trauma, addiction, and survival.
Q's unfiltered delivery, coupled with TDE’s creative freedom, allowed Oxymoron to stand apart in a decade full of formulaic rap records. It remains a compelling study of contradictions, delivered by an artist who embodies them fully.

Oxymoron is a dense, volatile, and gripping album that captures the complex world of ScHoolboy Q—a man wrestling with his past while navigating fame, fatherhood, and inner demons. Through aggressive anthems and mournful reflections, he offers a look into the heart of someone trying to hold it together in a life defined by contradiction. Bold, flawed, and unforgettable, Oxymoron solidified ScHoolboy Q not just as a voice of the streets, but as one of hip-hop’s most compelling and conflicted artists.

Released on November 19, 1996, Ill Na Na marked the audacious debut of Foxy Brown, a then-17-year-old rapper from Brooklyn who would become one of the most influential female voices in hip-hop. With a blend of raw lyricism, seductive bravado, and high-profile collaborations, the album captured the energy of the mid-1990s hip-hop scene while challenging perceptions of gender and power in the industry. Ill Na Na not only launched Foxy Brown's career but also helped redefine the space for women in rap.

Ill Na Na is steeped in themes of sexuality, luxury, confidence, and power. Foxy Brown asserts control over her image and body, using her lyrics to command respect, desire, and dominance. Tracks like “Get Me Home” (featuring Blackstreet) blend sensuality with bravado, while “I’ll Be” (featuring Jay-Z) showcases flirtatious chemistry layered with sharp wordplay.

On songs such as “Fox Boogie” and “Ain’t No Nigga” (Jay-Z's track featuring Foxy that helped raise her profile), she delivers braggadocio lines with the same bravura as her male counterparts. Her rhymes are layered with references to designer brands, sexual autonomy, and street credibility—creating a persona that is both glamorous and gritty.

Foxy Brown, born Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand, made a name for herself through standout guest verses on tracks by LL Cool J, Jay-Z, and Nas. Her fierce delivery and street-smart charisma quickly set her apart. Signed to Def Jam, she recorded Ill Na Na under the guidance of executive producer Trackmasters (Poke & Tone), capitalizing on the success of female-led rap in the wake of artists like Lil’ Kim and Queen Latifah.

The timing was significant: the mid-‘90s hip-hop scene was booming with commercial success, and women were starting to claim more visibility. Foxy Brown's emergence was both strategic and cultural—she was young, stylish, aggressive, and unapologetically sexual, flipping the traditionally male-dominated narrative in hip-hop.

The production on Ill Na Na reflects the polished, radio-friendly sound of late '90s East Coast hip-hop. Spearheaded by the Trackmasters, the album features lush samples, R&B-influenced beats, and smooth instrumentation that complement Foxy's laid-back but assertive flow.

The album blends hardcore rap elements with crossover appeal. R&B hooks, such as those by Blackstreet and Total, help bridge the gap between club bangers and radio hits. This duality made the album accessible to both hip-hop purists and mainstream audiences.

Ill Na Na benefits from a roster of high-profile collaborations that boost its credibility and appeal. Appearances from Jay-Z, Blackstreet, Method Man, Kid Capri, and Total add diversity and star power. These collaborations were more than just features—they were statements of endorsement from established male rappers in an era when co-signs were vital.

Moreover, her association with the supergroup The Firm (with Nas, AZ, and Nature) and her later affiliation with Def Jam’s elite positioned her as not just a rising star but a central figure in a broader movement of East Coast hip-hop excellence.

Upon release, Ill Na Na debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum within three months—an extraordinary feat for a teenage female rapper. Critics praised her commanding presence, lyrical sharpness, and confident sexuality. While some accused the album of being over-polished or too reliant on guest features, most acknowledged it as a strong debut that helped shape the trajectory of female rap.

Its success opened doors for other women to blend femininity with street-savvy appeal, contributing to a broader redefinition of gender roles in the genre.

Ill Na Na is a landmark moment in hip-hop history. It was one of the first albums to present a young woman in complete control of her artistic and sexual identity without apology. Foxy Brown’s debut helped establish a new archetype for female rappers—luxurious, dangerous, and lyrically potent.

While comparisons to Lil' Kim were inevitable, Foxy carved her own lane. Her influence can be seen in the rise of artists like Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B, all of whom channel elements of her style—confidence, fashion-forward persona, and lyrical grit.

Ill Na Na is more than a debut album—it is a declaration of independence, power, and artistry. Foxy Brown’s fierce lyricism and magnetic presence helped challenge the hip-hop landscape, expanding the possibilities for women in the genre. With its rich production, chart-topping singles, and unapologetic perspective, the album remains a cornerstone of 1990s rap and a bold blueprint for the future of female emcees.

Leon Michels has quietly become one of the most sought-after producers in music. His signature sound has caught the attention of the mainstream while continuing to inspire the underground. Since 2023’s El Michels Affair & Black Thought album Glorious Game, Michels has been busy producing records for other artists; Norah Jones’ Grammy winning Visions, Clairo’s Grammy nominated Charm, Kali Uchis’ “Moonlight”, as well as albums for labelmates Brainstory, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek, Thee Heart Tones, and Liam Bailey. His new album 24 Hr Sports marks the highly anticipated return to recording under his own moniker, El Michels Affair

24 Hr Sports was inspired by the fashion and graphic design of ‘80s & ‘90s Sports Illustrated magazines, MF DOOM’s Special Herbs albums, the sample sources used on them, and gospel music a la Pastor T.L. Barrett. The sum of those influences with Michels’ impeccable creative touch prove to be the recipe for an instant classic that will surely be one of the most heralded releases of 2025. The album opener “Drum Line” is an anthemic, uplifting tune with marching band drumming and thundering brass arrangements that command undivided attention and set the tone for what’s to come. 24 Hr Sports sees a significant departure from the largely instrumental music of the El Michels Affair catalog with a roster of vocal features that manages to mirror the undefinable genre of his music. The first one on the album is “Mágica” which features Brazil’s Rogê. He takes the already pumping energy of the track over the top with his fútbol inspired lyrics. Moving from Brazil to Ghana, “Say Goodbye” features Florence Adooni who touts her individuality with an effortless swag jumping between Frafra and English, telling it like it is in the earworm chorus, “never gonna find a girl like me…”. Labelmate and world renowned trumpeter from The Roots, Dave Guy joins the ‘70s groove of “Oakley’s Car Wash” with his distinct horn lines before the track switches lanes, closing with a dubby outro. From raucous to serene, “Anticipate” featuring Clairo picks up on the musical synergy between her and Leon that created 2024’s Charm album. Clairo rides signature EMA arrangements perfectly as she pines for an unattainable love over the band’s airtight instrumentation. “Eastside” is a song that could soundtrack a sunrise over the ocean, putting Leon’s tasteful use of space and arrangement on a pedestal. By way of Japan, The Suginami Children’s Choir join in on the lush “Clean The Line” singing a song about the moon, the sun, and birds. Next, “Cortex” kicks in the door with gritty distorted guitars and thundering drums that puts a moment of pure cinematic intensity in the middle of the album. Leon himself handles lead vocals on “Shining,” a song about looking for a friend to share the joys of a sunny day with. The universally adored Shintaro Sakamoto is featured on “Indifference”, a swanky tune built on bouncing basslines and flute chops. Shintaro uses the arrangements to go from singing to speaking, musing over a fleeting love. The Grammy winning duo of Norah Jones and Michels reunite on “Carry Me Away” with Jones' honeyed vocals soaring over a track that is hard to place but easy to love. Leon leans into El Michels Affair territory on the tune that sounds decidedly different from the Norah Jones records he has produced. “Take My Hand” puts gospel influence front and center with the Fabulous Rainbow Singers choir on the chorus and a saxophone solo from the late great Rahsaan Roland Kirk. “Open Season”, a mid tempo, piano driven number with group vocals chanting “we want the gold, we want the gold…” could soundtrack a slow motion highlight reel, while the aptly titled album closer “Victory Lap” is a dreamy euphoric wind-down worthy of the record that just finished. When all is said and done, the trophy on the cover of the album speaks volumes. El Michels Affair is champion sound and 24 Hr Sports hammers that home.

Limited to 300 copies, worldwide exclusive. Striking, clear, purple and pink color mix, coined “Cosmic Punch.” Mind Over Matter by Zion I stands as a powerful testament to the group’s innovation in hip-hop, but it carries a deeper weight following the untimely passing of Baba Zumbi in 2021. Zumbi's conscious lyricism and spiritual presence were the heart and soul of Zion I, and his passing left an undeniable void in the hip-hop community. The 2000 release of Mind Over Matter combined Zumbi's socially conscious rhymes with producer Amp Live’s futuristic beats, creating a sound that was both ahead of its time and deeply rooted in the traditions of hip-hop. Tracks like the Planet Asia assisted “Critical” and “Inner Light” are emblematic of this balance, where complex lyricism meets genre-bending production. The album’s themes of self-awareness, community, and resilience resonate just as strongly today, showcasing Zion I’s unique ability to fuse the personal with the political in a way that feels both intimate and revolutionary. For these reasons and more, the album was heralded with much acclaim, even earning a nomination for Album of the Year by The Source in 2000, and later being ranked among the 30 best underground hiphop albums since 2000 by HipHopDX. These accolades solidified its influence in the underground hip-hop space. In celebration of the album’s 25th anniversary, Mind Over Matter is being reissued through Live Up Records in partnership with Coalmine Reissues. This special edition will not only serve as a tribute to the genius of Zion I but also as a celebration of Baba Zumbi's enduring legacy. His spirit lives on through these songs, offering fans old and new a chance to reconnect with the timeless messages he left behind.

Limited to 100 copies. An artist whose reputation has long been forged by his engagement and musical exchange with local scenes and cultures from across the world. Quantic’s vast discography of electronic releases spans two decades, ranging from focused solo productions and intimate collaborations to expansive ensemble projects. Now, the multi-instrumentalist, DJ, composer and producer Will Holland delivers his DJ-Kicks compilation, which fittingly radiates friends and family energy. Having worked and lived in the UK, US and Colombia, Quantic reached out to the many wide-ranging music connections he has made during his 20-plus-year career. “It’s not like writing an album; you’re at the mercy of what other people are creating," he reflects of the mix’s creation. “Fortunately, the homies’ submissions were of an extremely high calibre!” Gathering these artists' music together was a delight for Quantic, especially as he had personal connections with many of those who crafted them. The mix bursts with unreleased exclusives and places the art of curation at its core, giving the listeners space to go and dig more of the songs and sonics which resonate the most. Will Holland includes a glistening breadth of new material, including new music from Quantic alongside another of his aliases Sobredosis, creating a mix teeming with vitality. Beyond raising profiles, the mix encapsulates Quantic’s tempo-changing DJing style which, over the past decade, has built him a strong community of fans. “It’s got a moody start and end, but a big portion is uplifting and joyous,” he says of the DJ-Kicks compilation’s sonic journey, “you’re going down a river and get off in a different place… it’s also a cool way to encapsulate, stylistically, what I’ve been up to as a DJ over the last few decades, while shining a light on people I admire”. This DJ-Kicks is the latest instalment in Quantic’s ever-evolving artistic trajectory, an accompaniment to those moments when the gloaming disappears into darkness. Will Holland’s longstanding dedication to a full range of melodic and percussive expression alongside continued musical collaboration is what makes his edition of DJ-Kicks such a rare beauty.

Edition of 500, numbered.

Suave House Records, in collaboration with Coalmine Reissues, proudly presents the first ever vinyl reissue of On Top Of The World by Eightball & MJG, celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary. This groundbreaking 1995 release, a cornerstone of Southern hip-hop, not only cemented the duo’s status as Memphis legends but also propelled them onto the national stage, highlighting their exceptional talent and unique sound.

At a time when the East and West Coasts dominated the rap scene, On Top Of The World brought the Third Coast into the conversation with its masterful storytelling, slick production, and unparalleled chemistry between 8Ball and MJG. The album climbed the charts, peaking at #8 on the Billboard 200, earning gold certification, and proving that Southern hip-hop had a unique and powerful voice in the game.

Key singles like “Space Age Pimpin’” were instrumental in this breakout. The smooth, infectious track lit up airwaves across the country, reaching #58 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and #22 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. Meanwhile, “Pimp in My Own Rhyme” underscored the duo’s lyrical prowess and contributed to the album’s widespread acclaim.

On Top Of The World remains a hallmark of 1990s hip-hop—a testament to Eightball & MJG’s ability to carve out their own lane. This reissue is a must-have for fans, celebrating a record that propelled Southern rap to new heights and cemented its rightful place in hip-hop history.

Germany's iconic deep funk collective digs into a new soundscape: “A Higher Frequency” was recorded with a nine-piece live to tape at legendary MPS studio in the Black Forest, adding an airy, jazzy flavour to their trademark raw and breaks-heavy funk. Ten tracks full of spiritual grooves, soulful themes, loose funkiness and organic interplay, captured with state-of-the-art 1960s gear in a super-vibey room - but the title A Higher Frequency is not just about the pristine analogue sound quality of the recording, it is also a reference to a trancendant wavelength where minds meet and music connects.

Together with long-time friends and collaborators Daniel Kimaz on flute and Guillame Métenier, who worked his magic on the studio's historic Bösendörfer grand piano and Hammond organ, the group spent a week in the Black Forest, with full focus on the mission to capture the live energy and togetherness of the ensemble.
The result is an album bursting with positive energy and power, rooted in a universal funk groove with excursions into many colourful branches like outernational, cinematic, soulful jazz, psychedelic & disco.

The common thread is a propulsive, driving-forward feel: “Open The Gate” welcomes us with hard-hitting breakbeats and dramatic crime brass, followed by the cool groovin' piano-led soul jazz of “Get Loose”, while “Spinning” takes us on a ride through cinematic horn choruses and folky-psych flute and guitars. “Back And Better” is Nichola Richards' time to shine, laying her sweet vocals over the sparse hiphop-infused soul beat to tell a comeback story. “Sweet Company” is a lighthearted uptempo tune inspired by TV and library themes of the 1960s. The swampy groove of “Sparks Of Joy” best reflects the fun of the band playing together and “Phantom Power” combines a trademark Mocambo breakin' theme with an unusual instrument, an electric phin from Thailand – a nod to the many so-called “world music jazz” recordings that the MPS studio gave birth to. On “Can't Stop This Fire”, soul singer Carlton Jumel Smith from New York City takes over the mic as a special guest and brings the house down with a heavy funk delivery. “When We Roll” builds another highlight where bouncy drums play off disco-jazz horn themes and finally, the gospel-flavoured cine-soul epic “Homebound” drives it all home.

HHV exclusive vinyl edition on milky clear vinyl, limited to 300 copies.

As we saw with their debut release "Breukelen Story", Masta Ace & Marco Polo once again drop a deluxe edition of their sophomore LP "Richmond Hill". This new version includes 4 bonus tracks not previously available on the album—three remixes (one featuring Talib Kweli) and one brand new song from Ace & Marco.

"Richmond Hill", the highly anticipated follow up to Masta Ace and Marco Polo's "Breukelen Story", is inspired by Marco's childhood in the titular neighborhood, a small town in Ontario, just outside of Toronto. Between interstitials about Marco's passion for hip-hop and cartoons, his struggle with addiction, and the support of his parents, Marco Polo and Masta Ace tackle the issues of the day head-on with clarity, the rapper using his decades-worth of rapping experience to slice through the producer's warm soul samples and crisp percussion. A cinematic journey that explores how the past echoes through the present, the album welcomes guest appearances from notable names from all eras of rap history, including Inspectah Deck, Coast Contra, Blu, Che Noir, Speech of Arrested Development, Masta Ace's longtime collaborators Stricklin and Wordsworth, and many more.

Karpenters, the latest album from Kool Keith, produced by Grant Shapiro, stays true to the essence of Hip-Hop: boom bap beats, clever samples, and heavyweight guest features. Hip-Hop legends like Tash (Tha Alkaholiks) and Marc Live (Analog Brothers/Black Elvis) add to the project, complementing Kool Keith’s signature eccentric flow. This marks Kool Keith’s first official album since the cult classic Black Elvis 2—a long-awaited release for dedicated fans. The album boasts mixing by J-Styles (Keith’s in-house engineer) and mastering by Grammy winner Steve “Steve B” Baughman, ensuring top-tier sound quality. Leading the charge is the official music video for "Super Hits," directed by Wayne Campbell—known for his work on Kool Keith’s Love Infringement and videos for artists like Benny The Butcher. With executive production by Kool Keith and distinctive, hard-hitting beats from Grant Shapiro, Karpenters is a project fans have been craving—raw, authentic, and unforgettable.

Apollo Brown is doing is own label now and this is the first release. So make sure you don't miss this gem.

“Elevator Music” is a deceptively simple, profound experience—a sonic metaphor for life’s blend of elegance and imperfection. It captures the sensation of moving seamlessly through moments of reflection, whether nostalgic or fleeting, underscoring them with a soundtrack that is as poignant as it is unassuming. Each note feels like the slow, deliberate sip of boxed wine from a plastic cup: unpretentious but evocative, an ode to savoring the ordinary.

Much like a solitary train ride through the snow-covered Alps, the album evokes a sense of both movement and introspection, framing life's highs and lows in stark contrast. Its deliberate pacing and atmospheric compositions offer listeners a space to think, remember, or even forget. Yet, what it insists upon most fervently is feeling—viscerally, deeply, unavoidably.

This is music not just to listen to, but to live with. Press play, let the soundtrack blend into your day, and allow “Elevator Music” to underscore life’s quiet triumphs and bittersweet reveries. It’s not just an album—it’s a reflective companion, perfectly attuned to the rhythm of existence.

This is music to live to.

Enjoy The Ride Records and Enjoy The Toons Records, in partnership with WaterTower Music, proudly present the limited edition vinyl release of A Minecraft Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring an electrifying lineup of original songs and a dynamic score by Grammy- and Emmy-winning composer Mark Mothersbaugh.

Leading the soundtrack is the high-energy anthem “I Feel Alive,” written and produced by Jack Black, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt. Jack Black delivers powerhouse lead vocals with Danielle Brooks backing him up, with Mark Ronson on Bass, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, Queen of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar and Roger Manning on synthesizer. The song made its debut on March 19, when Black premiered it live on Twitch, filming an impromptu music video in front of an audience of over 250,000 fans.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Black shared, “It was a thrill to collaborate with legendary songwriters Ronson and Wyatt on the final song!”

Ronson and Wyatt also praised Black’s artistry, stating: “Jack Black possesses one of the greatest voices in all of modern recorded music. From Tenacious D’s debut album to his matchless interpretation of ‘Hanukkah O Hanukkah,’ his voice electrifies the soul and the eardrums. When he first approached us at the Golden Globes in 2023, he told Andrew and I that he had been singing our song ‘I’m Just Ken’ in his head all day—the greatest compliment we could have received. Andrew and I had an incredible experience writing this song with him, and it's one we could have only created with this extraordinary man for this wonderful film. We hope you rock the f**k out to it.”

Beyond “I Feel Alive,” Black contributes to three additional songs that capture key comedic moments in the film. “We had a blast peppering the movie with little musical nuggets throughout our journey,” he explained. “Me and Jared (Hess) went back and forth about song ideas in the weeks prior to shooting, and I’d send him little voice memos. We’d laugh our butts off and shape them to fit perfectly in the film.”

The soundtrack also features: Benee performing “Zero to Hero,” written by Bret McKenzie. A longtime fan of both Minecraft and Black, Benee expressed her excitement: “I’m so excited to be involved in this project. I’ve been a Minecrafter for years, as well as a huge fan of Jack Black. Working with Bret McKenzie has been amazing. He is a musical genius. We met a couple of years ago in New Zealand, and it’s been awesome to finally collaborate with him. I can’t wait to see the final version of the movie!”

Multi-platinum artist Dayglow, a dedicated Minecraft fan, contributes the indie-pop track “Change Song.” He shared, “Ever since I was 10, I’ve loved Minecraft. It’s one of the most creativity-inspiring games ever, so to be a part of its legacy is so awesome. I’m so honored! I hope to inspire people to keep having fun and use their imagination.”

Rock band Dirty Honey’s song “When I’m Gone” embodies Jason Momoa’s character, Garett “The Garbage Man” Garrison. Lead singer Marc LaBelle, who has some history with Black working on the show “Drunk History,” remarked: “To find out that our music would be featured in A Minecraft Movie —alongside two of Hollywood’s biggest rock ‘n’ roll ambassadors, Jack Black and Jason Momoa—is not only an exciting opportunity to introduce Dirty Honey to a whole new generation of fans, but also a full-circle moment for me and my time here in L.A.”

Rounding out the soundtrack is a score by the legendary Mark Mothersbaugh, who seamlessly blends original compositions with tasteful nods to the iconic music featured in Minecraft the game by C418. Mothersbaugh explained: “A Minecraft Movie presented a unique challenge in creating a score that balanced quirky characters with the intense action sequences. The music needed to capture the charm of the characters while also driving the high-energy moments. This required a thoughtful approach to ensure the score not only complemented the film’s action but also added depth and emotional resonance, making it a vital part of the story.”

A Minecraft Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is pressed on 2xLP limited edition purple colored vinyl. Housed in a gatefold jacket, it also includes 12" x 12" double-sided full-color insert featuring art from the film.

Artists like Jalen Ngonda come around once in a lifetime, so it is our privilege and distinct pleasure to announce the release of his debut album Come Around and Love Me. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. His voice, equal parts raw feeling and elegance, exudes confidence and charm-disarming packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. Plans for the album were struck just months before the Covid 19 pandemic shut the world down. Notwithstanding, Jalen eventually made it to Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY where he began writing and recording with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and a crack team of a-list musicians from the Daptone family. The team skillfully blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with motown sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. Jalen has been writing songs since he was 14, and his compositions are also very much of these times. He explains, "I love music from the 20th century- I listen to it all the time, but I?m in this world and the 21st century. ...to a stranger, I?d describe my music as modern soul and R&B, while trying to fit in the Beach Boys and the Beatles somewhere in between." Come Around and Love Me reveals how he creates a classic approach that is rooted in the sounds of revered pioneers, without falling into imitation-leaving no doubt that Jalen will continue to shine within the superlative, timeless musical tradition that is Daptone?s hallmark. Now it's your turn to come around and love one of the finest soul albums of the decade.

Durand Jones & The Indications are in bloom.

After more than a decade of music-making, the trio have blossomed as a unit and are basking in their successes. On their aptly titled new album, Flowers, The Indications unfurl their true colors — embracing all their roots and influences, maturation and confidence, and share them with the world. "We spent the last 10 years building this house and now we’re living in it,” says Blake Rhein.

Flowers reflects DJI's growth and conviction: It's grown and sexy, fit for cruising and kissing, and delights in the softer side of soul and disco. "All of these songs touch on such mature topics, things that we never got to sing about before," says Durand Jones. "We are all in our 30s, have all been through ups and downs in our personal lives and professional lives, and flowers are a sign of maturity, growth, spring, productivity."

"After parting ways as Blaque Spurm with Rick Rubin’s American Recordings in 1996, Bobby “BeFyne” Humbert moved from Houston back to the eastcoast to Philly and began working for Contract Recordings and Ruff Nation formerly known as Ruff House Records. During his time there he recorded this album in Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo’s infamous recording studio. Produced by his two mentors and close friends Anthony “YZ” Hill and Anthony “Tony D” Depula (RIP), this was the first time in over 10 years they had worked on a project together from their Two Tone Production days back in the late 80’s.

The album is a vivid reflection of what BeFyne was experiencing becoming an elder statesmen for underground hip-hop music as it was beginning to morph in the commercial powerhouse that it is today. It was also a testimony to his growth as an emcee and displays some of his best lyricism since his early The Funk Family and Blaque Spurm days. The production from both Tony’s was ahead of its time and can hold up to any sound on the radio right now. This is definitely a classic timeless masterpiece so sit back and enjoy." - Bobby "BeFyne" Humbert

"Blaque Spurm was conceived when I was ending my relationship with Poetic Groove Records for my group The Funk Family in 1993 and wanted to give a new name to my crew. Unfortunately, PGR lost their distribution with Interscope Records so it was time to reinvent ourselves and put out some new music. One day we were in the studio with my brother Borne "Baby Chill" Humbert (RIP) recording his album "Wake Up Call". He wanted me on his song "Black Sperm" so I was like "that would be a crazy name for a group". At the time, Borne was playing with the idea of calling his crew "The Secret Squirrels", so when I said was going to use the title of his song as the name of my group he was a little salty but ultimately was like that's dope and Blaque Spurm was born. I changed the spelling so it wouldn't appear so blunt and start drawing my own logos, I think the first logo I drew was the spermatozoa with the head shaped like a "B" and the stale shaped like an "S". Now I had to get with my producer Anthony "Tony D" Depula (RIP) and make an entire album based on this new name and concept so I started writing and coming up with bangers like "Bend-A-Hoe" and "Awh Fuck It“.

On my many travels to Houston I met and added to the crew two of the dopest Emcees by the names of Papa Doc, who was from Philly, and J-Nap from Queens. I also incorporated the production of some of Houston illest underground producers at the time, my homies Prodigy, Grizz and homie Itche. They were a perfect match to Tony D's melodic sound for the album. We were signed to American Recordings aka Def American when a young A&R rep and still my homie till this day, Mr. Dan Charnas, played Rick Rubin some of our music from The Funk Family album and a couple of the new BS songs. He said Rick loved the music, but when he told him our name he was blown away and next thing you know we're signing contracts and I was on my way to L.A. to meet with Rick. We recorded the album "Spurmacidal Tendencies" and released the "Splendid" 12 inch which also featured "Jizm", "Nonoxynol Rhyme'n" & "Pack Ya Shit" in 1994. We released our second single "Dayz & Dayz" & "The Cycle" a year later, but we severed ties with American shortly after and didn't release the full album until over a decade later. Now you get to vibe out to this classic album and add it to your catalog of dope shit for years to come so enjoy!" - Bobby "BeFyne" Humbert

Turning into Blaque Spurm later on, "The Funk Family was simply a bunch of friends and family who grew up together in the burbs of Central New Jersey and who loved Hip-Hop music. With the help of one of the best producers to ever touch a drumpad, our brother, the amazingly talented Anthony "Tony D" Depula (RIP), we made some monumental, thought provoking, classic material that to this day, even though it was released on such a small scales, has gained fans around the world." - Bobby "BeFyne" Humbert

On 11 November 2022, the symbolic start of Cologne‘s carnival season, a memorable concert was recorded at King Georg Jazz Klub: Muriel Grossmann and her quartet played a live set that transformed the club into a musical island. While the carnival hustle and bustle gradually died down outside, King Georg offered music lovers an evening characterised by musical depth. Subdued lighting, an intimate club atmosphere, groove and the optimised sound created a parallel universe of interpretative expansiveness and spiritual contemplation. Many see the saxophonist, who lives in Ibiza, as a promising voice in European jazz. With her unmistakable sound between modal jazz, blues and spiritual sounds, she‘s built a worldwide reputation with albums such as Golden Flute, Reverence, Quite Earth & Universal Code. Born in Austria, she began her career in Vienna before going on tour internationally with her quartet. Her music, inspired by greats such as John and Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, is imbued with a spiritual depth and a musical vision. The recording from King Georg is their first live album. Together with Radomir Milojkovic on guitar, Abel Boquera on Hammond organ and Uros Stamenkovic on drums, Grossmann creates a cosmos of sound that is as meditative as it is powerful. In contrast to studio albums released between 2018 and 2022, which were strongly anchored in modal jazz, this recording shows the quartet‘s development towards an increasingly psychedelic, bluesy and moody fusion sound aesthetic. The release also marks the launch of the new Cologne-based label PowerHouse Records. After several studio albums on the Estonian label RR Gems, a compilation on the British label Jazzman Records and an album on Jack White‘s Detroit label Third Man Records, ‘mgq live im King Georg, Köln’ is the discographically indispensable ‘Live at’ album.

We are excited to announce the first reissue of Tony Scott's iconic “Manteca” album originally released in 1973. This 180-gram vinyl audiophile edition captures the essence of a true master of contaminated jazz, allowing listeners to experience Tony Scott's vibrant artistry like never before. Originally described in the album’s liner notes by Sam Charters, "Manteca" embodies the spirit of the jazz musician’s journey—a testament to durability, warmth, and exuberance. Charters notes, “You have to be durable these days to be a jazz man... a musician like Tony Scott has the kind of personality that it takes to be a jazz man today” — a sentiment that perfectly encapsulates the artist's incredible career. From the bustling club scene of New York in the 1950s to captivating audiences in Japan, Scott's journey brought him to Sweden in the summer of 1973, where he collaborated with exceptional local musicians. The result was a collection of vibrant, uptempo jazz tracks combined with reflective ballads, showcasing the remarkable versatility and inventiveness of Scott's clarinet, baritone, and even his distinctive scat vocals. The album opens with the titular track "Manteca," setting an exhilarating tone that endures until the final, almost sinister note of "One For Topsy." Complemented by an all-star lineup, including bassist Sture Nordin, drummer Ed Thigpen and legendary percussionist Sabu Martinez, this session embodies the international spirit of jazz—a genre that transcends boundaries and unites souls. This audiophile edition has been meticulously remastered to provide an unparalleled listening experience, preserving the authenticity of the original while ensuring superior sound quality. With only a limited amount produced, this vinyl reissue is a must-have for collectors and jazz aficionados alike. Join us in celebrating the reemergence of Tony Scott's "Manteca," a true landmark in jazz history, and immerse yourself in the dynamic sounds that have inspired generations.

"Yaramaz," the forthcoming album by Berlin-based musician Güner Künier, is scheduled for release on March 21, 2025, under the label Flirt 99. It is the follow-up to her debut . n December 2022, Künier released her debut album, "Aşk" (Turkish for "love"), which blends old-school and industrial beats with lo-fi guitars and synthesizer sounds. She sings in both English and Turkish, drawing inspiration from the psychedelic sounds of the 1970s, 1980s synthwave, and contemporary styles. The title "Yaramaz" translates from Turkish to "good-for-nothing," a term often used to describe cheeky or rebellious children. Through this album, Künier narrates her coming-of-age journey, exploring themes of self-empowerment and liberation from societal and familial expectations.

Musically, "Yaramaz" draws heavily from post-punk and minimal/synth-wave genres, while also incorporating elements of shoegaze, krautrock, and riot grrrl influences. The album delivers an empowering message: to follow one's own path without deterrence.

The lead single from the album, "Sabahlar" ("Mornings"), showcases Künier's raw and direct approach. The track features unpolished synths over minimalist beats, complemented by distorted guitars and assertive vocals, reminiscent of early synth-punk pioneers.

In support of "Yaramaz," Künier will embark on a European tour, with a performance in Berlin at Kantine am Berghain on May 15, 2025.

Souls Of Mischief, the Oakland, CA quartet and members of the mighty Hieroglyphics Crew, are proud to announce the first-ever vinyl release of their fifth album "Montezuma's Revenge." Notably, the album’s striking cover featured a fifth member of the group: the legendarily innovative producer Prince Paul, who executive produced the LP, handling most of the beats and overseeing the musical direction of the album from start to finish. Emcees A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai take turns showing off the multisyllabic flows, witty similes, and smooth lyrics that have made the crew a household name in rap for over 30 years. Souls' trademark juxtaposition of complex, multi-syllabic lyricism against laid-back Cali flow remained as strong as it was in 1993 on “Montezuma’s Revenge,” and Paul’s magic touch on production took the Souls’ sound to a new level. While the aforementioned and unmistakable SOM sound remains very much intact, Paul's vision and risk-taking come through on the finished product. Tajai was comfortable from the start in working with the visionary producer: ”Paul is a perfectionist and so are we so we took time with the beats and subject matter. This album to me is a great insight into who we are as people and how important it is to progress stylistically, yet it retains a classic, timeless feel."
