"Hijos Del Sol" by Hermanos Gutiérrez is released as an LP on Discos G and brings together ten instrumental pieces that move between concise melodic arcs and more extended atmospheric passages. The selection ranges from compact tracks such as "Railroad Vista" to eponymous arrangements, with the record maintaining a unified dramatic arc and placing instrumental storytelling at the center.

Musically, "Hijos Del Sol" fuses Latin American guitar roots with Western and Southwestern hues; lap‑steel‑like textures, rhythmic percussion, and interwoven guitar lines shape the sound. Characteristic of Hermanos Gutiérrez is the seamless interlocking of two guitar parts that are coordinated melodically and rhythmically to such an extent that lead lines and accompaniment feel inseparable. Transamericas reissues Atom™’s Kraftwerk-goes-chachachá classic After 25 years out of print, El Baile Alemán — the cult album by Señor Coconut (one of Atom™’s many aliases) — returns on vinyl via Transamericas. What began as a half-joke (“The only way I’d cover Kraftwerk is as chachachá or death metal…”) became a fever-born epiphany: Kraftwerk’s electronic minimalism recast through a tropical imagination — where chachachá, mambo, and cumbia intertwine with glitch, breakbeats, and distressed samples. Long before reggaeton and trap filled stadiums and playlists, Señor Coconut was already mapping the fault lines between Latin rhythm and electronic form. Originally released in Japan in 2000, El Baile Alemán caught the ear of Kraftwerk’s Florian Schneider, who unexpectedly championed the project. This reissue has been cut from Atom™’s 2022 remasters, preserving the album’s detail for a new generation of listeners. In the second half of 2026, Transamericas will also reissue El Gran Baile (1997), his first outing — a rawer but equally idiosyncratic fusion of what Atom™ was going to frame as electrolatino.

Curió Curió came to flight by chance. Two artists, Rio-born, Austria-based singer and actress Luiza Monteiro and German producer Dustin Braun, had separately reached a fork in their journeys. An opportune encounter soon blossomed into an uplifting, heartfelt Brazilian MPB-groove project shaped by psychedelic disco and studio experimentation. In their own words Curió Curió’s sonic vision “is not straight disco, not straight samba, not strictly old-school but inspired by all of them, creating something contemporary but still nostalgic”. A modern fusion influenced as much by Gal Costa and Jorge Ben Jor as Say She She and Bala Desejo, their sound deftly plots a course all of its own. A celebration of freedom, movement, love and life, intertwined with introspective moments of reflection. Treating tradition as something alive, migratory and unresolved, the album is not simply bound by a shared love of Brazilian music, but by a deeper question that runs through every track; where does one belong when home becomes plural? As a Brazilian living in Europe, Luiza's lyrics explore themes of identity, culture, and existence. The tracks move between cities and emotional registers without settling, tracing a sense of identity that shifts rather than resolves. Songs like ‘Amor Doente’ and ‘Mar sem Dar Pé’ circle around relationships that resist clarity, while ‘Menina Passarinho’ captures the fear and necessity of committing to music as a path. For Luiza, deepening her commitment to music alongside years in theatre was both inevitable and difficult. Braun’s production follows a similar logic. Initial ideas were often built without obvious reference points, only later incorporating rhythmic and vocal elements that hint at Brazil without reproducing it. Analogue techniques, tape, ribbon microphones and live ensemble recording bring a tactile quality that reflects the duo’s interest in process as much as outcome. Highlights include ‘Bem Querer’, built on an authentic samba street vibe with a super-catchy sing-along chorus, and ‘Vem pra Casa’ with its cosmic-tinged Brazilian boogie flavour. The album closes with ‘A Cor do Meu Sonho’, a quiet act of insistence. A refusal to shrink in unfamiliar environments, and a belief in the strength of difference. It is less a conclusion than a continuation, leaving the central question open. “I started to understand that I can belong to many places at once”, Luiza reflects. “And that can be something to embrace”. Lyrics from the song ‘Raiz’ translate in English to “I value a burning sun and the cold in the air. Constant change is my companion”. With Curió Curió, that idea is lived through sound, story and collaboration. A debut that feels both searching and assured, grounded in heritage yet shaped by distance.

The orange vinyl edition of the "Os Tincoas" LP by Os Tincoas is being released on Music On Vinyl; the 180-gram pressing is limited to 1,000 individually numbered copies and marks the first regular vinyl availability of the album since 1980.

Os Tincoas rank among the distinctive voices of Brazilian MPB, with close ties to Afro-Bahian tradition. Their repertoire weaves together samba roots, Candomblé chants, and multi-part vocal harmonies into a dense, culturally grounded sound. Their take is characterized by sparse instrumentation and a strong focus on vocal nuances, giving the songs a sacral intensity without denying their roots in the popular sphere.

Distinctive aspects of this release include arrangements by acclaimed musicians: João Donato contributed orchestral and harmonic additions to several tracks, while Oberdan Magalhães and Leonardo Bruno handled additional arrangement work. A new solo album from Seu Jorge reveals his 'other side' on this new solo album featuring Beck and Maria Rita. Produced by Mario Caldato Jr. (Beastie Boys), the album moves between jazz and bossa nova and is the result of a 16-year musical journey.
Seu Jorge is ready to present to the world the most ambitious project of his international career. After 16 years in the making, “The Other Side” finally arrives on streaming platforms in May. A departure from the soul and samba that defined his solo career, the new album is a sophisticated orchestral celebration of Brazilian music, moving between jazz and bossa nova.

The seed for this meeting between the Brazilian soul and orchestral sophistication was planted by a longtime friend and admirer: the legendary producer Mario Caldato Jr., known for his work with the Beastie Boys and Jack Johnson. The partnership, however, goes back further. “It’s not often that you find a voice and talent as vibrant and powerful as Seu Jorge’s. That’s what I felt in 1999, when I met him in Los Angeles,” recalls Caldato. “Since then, our friendship and admiration have only grown, allowing us to create music together with total freedom.”

The spark for “The Other Side” came from a moment of pure sensitivity. “This album was born when I recorded Jorge playing a simple version of ‘Girl You Move Me,’ by the band Cane and Able, on a nylon-string guitar. The performance was very sensitive and dynamic, which moved me deeply,” says the producer.

It was then that Caldato had the idea to invite multi-instrumentalist and arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson to orchestrate that demo. The partnership, which began in 2009, blossomed organically. “I shared some ideas with Miguel, and he understood perfectly, creating a beautiful arrangement that elevated the song to a much more luxurious and sophisticated dimension. That experience planted the seed for this orchestral adventure. "

With his characteristically deep, velvety voice, Seu Jorge guides the listener through a repertoire that revives gems of MPB. The artist cites as references the catalog of the German label ECM Records and the arrangements of Claus Ogerman, a conductor who worked with Tom Jobim and João Gilberto.

Recorded in stages between 2009 and 2018, the album is a true work of musical
craftsmanship, created with calm and friendship. The live rhythmic foundations were
provided by Seu Jorge’s band. “Jorge has a lot of confidence in and pride for his musicians, allowing them to express themselves freely. Each one brings a special flavor to every song; this was their album too, ” notes Caldato Jr.

“It was a week of pure joy for me and for all of us, recording and capturing that magical spirit and vibe,” adds the producer, who saw the work come together with arrangements by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. “When it came time for mixing, everything felt very natural. The album revealed itself and came together magnificently. For me, it’s a timeless album.”

The album features covers of songs such as “Crença” by Milton Nascimento (from his 1969 debut album); “Caboclo” by Arthur Verocai, in a version with psychedelic guitars; and, of course, “Girl You Move Me” by the Canadian band Cane & Able, which inspired the project. Among the tracks featuring guest artists, “Vento de Maio” by Márcio Borges (a hit with Lô Borges and Elis Regina) features an intense duet with Maria Rita. Another major collaboration is with American singer Beck, a self-proclaimed fan of Brazilian music and Grammy winner. Together, they perform “River Man” by the revered British singer Nick Drake.

Bruno Berle is a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and figurehead of a contemporary Brazilian music movement. With a quiet mastery of songwriting and an astonishing voice, his music has won hearts around the world. Since the release of his debut album No Reino Dos Afetos (2022), Berle has performed across the UK, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China, only leaving his home country for the first time in 2023. Shaped by these journeys, Berle’s third studio album, Sem Fronteiras (Without Borders), reflects a utopian vision of a unified world.

Recorded across London, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Germany, and Maceió, the album–co-produced alongside his longstanding musical partner Batata Boy–is the most expansive canvas Berle has worked on to date. Shot through with the imagery that has always animated his songwriting: open skies, morning light, vivid colours and the magic of human connection, Berle’s carefully crafted poetics and warm, delicate instrumentation drive this vivid body of work.

“I came from nothing”–Berle doesn’t take his rise to global prominence for granted.

Born to a working class family from Brazil’s northeastern Alagoas state, one of Brazil’s most economically deprived, Bruno moved frequently in his youth to follow any job opportunities his parents could find, before eventually settling in the coastal capital of Maceió. “I used to travel to Caruaru, Santa Cruz, Recife, Garanhuns, Arapiraca, which I loved and feel it made me ready to be in this rhythm i’, but at the same time I think not having friends from childhood and being in constant change made me a little numb to the constant upheaval”. On Sem Fronteiras, there is a similar duality at play. The album celebrates the collective joy and human connection that live touring brings, but it also sits with the darker realities of crossing borders. While music moves more freely around the world than ever before, our bodies are not granted the same privilege.

Though he’s never lacked self-belief, Berle recognises that talent alone doesn’t guarantee opportunity. “Before my second album [No Reino Dos Afetos 2] everything I had ever recorded was made with the help and kindness of people who believed in my ability”. Determined to pay that kindness forward and help others from the sharp end of Brazil’s desperately unequal society, Berle produced and featured on the recent self-titled albums by his northeast Brazilian compatriots, Nyron Higor and Phylipe Nunes Araújo (both 2025), helping propel both onto the international stage. In turn, following the successes of Nyron & Phylipe’s albums alongside his own, Bruno finds himself at the forefront of a thriving community of artists now based in São Paulo, but primarily originating from northeastern states like Alagoas and Pernambuco.

Much like the famed Clube Da Esquina movement that spawned in 1970’s Minas Gerais, they operate with a free-exchange of ideas, writing songs with and for each other, performing on each other’s albums and on the live circuit together. Lead single ‘Manha’ flows from this ethos. It was written by Berle’s friend and fellow Alagoan João Menezes (writer of ‘Ate Meu Violao’ and ‘Te Amar Eterno’ from Bruno’s previous albums) and Marvin Viera, and originally recorded on their 2018 album Areia e Mar.

Sem Fronteiras opens with ‘Você Já Sabe Que Eu Te Amo’, just six beats of one nylon guitar chord ring out before changing key, paving the way for the gentle strike of fender rhodes and the arresting call & response duet between Berle and Higor. On ‘Amor Inteiro’, the album reaches a celebratory burst of catharsis, with the punch-packing drums of Pedro Lacerda and Nina Maia’s joyous backing vocals encapsulating the live energy that Berle and his band bring to the stage.

With the abundant talents of this musical community at its heart, Sem Fronteiras releases 10th July 2026 via Far Out Recordings, supported by a summer tour across Europe. Bruno Berle will perform in a four-piece band alongside Nyron Higor, Phylipe Nunes, and Batata Boy, culminating in an appearance at Roskilde festival, Berle’s biggest live show to date. He’ll continue to carry a hopeful vision of a world where artists and musicians can move as freely as their music flows.

From the psychedelic funk of local stars Sugar Ice Tea and Cryptus Confession to the Latin influences of visiting musicians like Puerto Rican star Mon Rivera via Surinamese-influenced soul and the garage rock of Los Honda, the islands nourished a huge array of styles and talent. Antiyano Progresivo unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly transforming Caribbean. During the twentieth century, oil industries, migration and tourism reshaped the islands, creating unparalleled cultural exchange while deepening social divisions. African, Latin American, North American and European musical traditions intertwined with local forms, producing a rich and distinctive musical landscape. Tambú, tumba, calypso and Caribbean dance music coexisted alongside soul, funk, psychedelic rock, reggae, Latin music and American and British pop. Musicians moved fluidly between these styles, developing sounds that were unmistakably local while remaining connected to wider currents across the Caribbean and beyond. The period also coincided with growing movements for cultural and political self determination. Events such as Curaçao's Trinta di Mei uprising in 1969, the emergence of Black Power movements and increasing calls for greater autonomy fostered renewed pride in African heritage, local languages and cultural expression. These ideas resonated through music, inspiring artists to challenge conventions and create work that reflected changing identities.

The "Carlos. Erasmo..." LP by Erasmo Carlos is released on Tamba and marks an important turning point in his body of work, in which he fuses pop, soul, and the influences of the Brazilian music scene of his time into a sound that is very much his own.

The record captures Erasmo Carlos in a songwriting mode that touches on both personal and social themes; rich in melody yet rougher than many of his earlier recordings, it presents a blend of Jovem Guarda roots, MPB sensibility, and occasional soulful shadings. Arrangements and harmonic details create space for vocal lines that define the distinct character of his sound.

In the production, Erasmo worked closely with Manoel Barenbein; the arrangements are mostly by Chiquinho de Moraes, while several individual tracks feature additional notable contributors. Instrumental contributions by musicians such as Dinho Leme and Liminha give the record extra drive, and the track "Ciça, Cecília" was realized as a special production by Nelson Motta with an arrangement by Arthur Verocai.

Standout tracks include "De noite na cama," "Ciça, Cecília," "26 anos de vida normal," and "Maria Joana," spanning the spectrum from introspective ballads to more rhythm-driven cuts. Taken as a whole, the LP showcases the powerful songwriting and stylistic versatility of Erasmo Carlos.

Welcome to Volume 8 of the Mr Bongo Record Club series, our in-house curated compilations that give us a chance to share some of our favourite tracks, hard-fought finds, and unsung gems. These are tracks that have been inspiring us at home, in the office, while DJing, and on the dancefloor.

In the cross-genre spirit of the series, for Volume 8 we have selected music from the worlds of soul, boogie, disco-reggae, jazz-funk, and Latin, with a hefty chunk of beloved Brazilian music. Pulling these compilations together is always a highlight of our year, and eight volumes in, we feel this is one of our strongest to date.

The album’s journey begins with a heartfelt epic by As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã, from the Bahian town of Itapuã. It’s an area of Brazil that holds a special place in David ‘Mr Bongo’ Buttle’s heart, and where he first met our dear friend, Luciano Rodrigues Dos Santos, to whose memory this compilation is dedicated to.

Staying in Northern Brazil, next up is a contemporary dancefloor gem by Ubunto, a DJ and producer from Salvador, which also features As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã. The raw, dusty, punchy sounds of zabumba drummer Castanheiro and the furious guitar-heavy dancer by Tyaraju & Dutra are just two more examples of the Brazilian beauties included on the compilation.

There is also a heavy dose of soul music on this volume. The Canadian-gospel sounds of Trevor Dandy, a modern-soul rarity by Wil Collins & Willpower (which has been on our list for years), and a soul-stepper masterpiece by Tommy McGee, are just a handful of the highlights. Not stopping there, we are incredibly proud to present an exclusive rework of The Sylvers' ‘Wish That I Could Talk To You’ by the legendary Kenny Dope. Kenny has excelled himself with this one, fattening up the drums while bringing more drama to the horns and strings. The song now feels more contemporary yet still stays true to its roots. Complete genius!

Elsewhere on the compilation, you’ll find a cosmic reggae-not-reggae disco oddity by Tapper Zukie, a South African jazz-funk-disco groover by Mac Mathunjwa, a sought-after Brazilian compacto by Eduardo Araújo, and a Brit-funk / boogie treasure by Powerline.

Traversing time, genre, and location, all the tracks on Volume 8 are favourites for their own unique reasons. Music will forever be a constant source of comfort, able to affect you deeply in the most meaningful ways. It doesn’t get much more special than this one. The music industry loves throwing around phrases like 'rare as hens' teeth' and 'holy grail', but Ricardo Marrero & The Group’s 1976 album A Taste genuinely earns them. A mythical and elusive release in its original form, for many it’s an unattainable prize in the Discogs wantlist, and one far out of reach financially. Even though it’s already been reissued by other amazing record labels over the years, we really wanted to make a Mr Bongo edition to pay homage to the album’s greatness and to keep this iconic gem in print, and at an affordable price for all.

The scarcity of Ricardo Marrero & The Group's iconic A Taste released in 1976 grew from the foundations of its release on the notorious TSG Records. Run by Lloyd Price, with alleged ties to boxing promoter Don King, TSG was one of the tax scam labels of the 1970s created to exploit a loophole in the US tax system. Such labels would run up inflated production costs and losses that investors or the parent label could write off against their tax bills.

A Taste was never intended to be promoted and distributed properly and was thus lost in the musical ether of this 1970s farce. The Opaque White edition of the “La Charanga De García / Para Ti” 7" by Ray García Y Su Charanga was released on Bobbito 45/7 and brings two previously unreleased recordings by the vibraphonist and bandleader back into the light. DJ Bobbito García presents the musical legacy of his father here: “La Charanga de García” and “Para Ti” come from sessions in the 1960s, recorded at Lynn Oliver Studios on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and originally cut as a 1-of-1 acetate.

Ray García, born in Puerto Rico and based in New York since 1953, had made the vibraphone his instrument of choice; his early band opened for Tito Puente at the Palladium in the late 1950s, and Puente later gifted him his own vibes. Flute, piano, violin, and timbales are characteristic of a charanga — what’s unusual here is the leadership by a vibraphone, which gives the pieces a distinctive sound. Both sides work as dancefloor numbers, but they also unfold their appeal for connoisseurs of rare Latin recordings.

Ray García passed away in 1997; the remaining musicians of the ensemble have also since died. This 7" on Bobbito 45/7 nevertheless preserves the band’s vibrant presence and makes two early gems of the Latin scene available to hear again for the first time.

Mr Bongo reissues, in full for the first time, a pioneering Trinidadian steelband album from 1979. Masterminded by the key and highly influential calypso / soca steelpan player, Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, Phase2 showcases Boogsie’s innovative fusion of jazz, funk and Caribbean rhythms in stunning style.

Dubbed ‘the Mozart of Pan’ by Wynton Marsalis, Boogsie began playing pan at the age of five and composed his own music by the age of nine years old. Across a long and illustrious career, he has won seven National Panorama Championships in Trinidad and Tobago with his compositions and band, a world Steelband Music Festival with his original compositions “In the Rainforest”, and two Notting Hill Panorama Championships with Mangrove Steel Orchestra. Over the years he has also played with Andre Tanker, Lord Shorty, Lord Kitchener, Leston Paul, Clive Zanda, and other amazing Caribbean greats. Len became an arranger for the National Steelband of Trinidad and Tobago and is a cultural ambassador for the country promoting the instrument.

Phase2 is built up predominantly of original compositions by Boogsie, alongside a track penned by fellow Trinidadian musician Raf Robertson and an outstanding Trinidadian-disco cover version of Roy Ayers' classic ‘Can't You See Me’. Phase II is the name of the band Boogsie started with six of his friends who sought to compose their own music.

Drenched in feel-good island-life energy, the eight tracks showcase Boogsie’s creative approach to the pan and its ability to elevate the flavour of a host of genres not usually associated with the instrument.

‘Can't You See Me’ is an underground disco banger that has become highly sought-after. It’s no surprise why, with pan injecting Caribbean heat to Ayers’ original. When rare groove DJs picked up on it and began playing it in their sets, it introduced Boogsie’s talents to a wider audience.

Far from a one-track wonder, there is plenty more to dig into on the album. The cosmic jazz-funk of ‘Boogie Kaiso’ is pure brilliance. Starting off with a soul-nourishing piano introduction, it drops into a super deep, addictive, pan-infused disco groove which has Cloud One-esque vibes to it. The composition sounds fresh and is the perfect secret weapon for the dancefloor.

Elsewhere, ‘Weight’ is another highlight. A sweet, catchy jazz-funk dancer with some sublime playing throughout. ‘Yoga Styling’ and ‘Punk Party’ kick off with brilliant breaks, before opening out into grooves rich in leftfield disco swagger, hypnotic musicianship and blistering pan solos by Boogsie. Then there’s ‘Celebration’, reminiscent of a mix between a Stevie Wonder song and a calypso classic, with amazing, relaxed, but on-point funk drumming by Richard Bailey. Providing a moment to pause for breath, ‘Passing Time’ is meditative and deep with just Boogsie on the pan, a moment of relaxed and regenerative calm on the record.

The “Uma Celebração A Os Tincoãs” LP by Pra Gira Girar is released on Amor In Sound and opens the record with a new take on “Atabaque Chora.” The piece, written by Dadinho and Mateus Aleluia, already opened the iconic 1977 album by Os Tincoãs and here serves as a deliberate opening statement for the group’s recording project.

Pra Gira Girar is a Rio-based project founded by Alvaro Lancellotti, Michele Leal, and Alan de Deus; the lineup includes Pedro Costa on guitar, Kassin on bass, Zé Manoel on piano and vocals, Diogo Gomes on trumpet, and percussionists Zero Telles in memoriam and Anna Magalhães. Michele Leal brings a background in choral singing, which newly accentuates the polyphonic passages.

Pedro Costa transcribed the original vocal arrangements and, together with Michele Leal, adapted them for a lineup that, in contrast to the original, incorporates a female voice. The intensive year-long rehearsals placed particular emphasis on the complex harmonies and the rhythmic depth of the Bahian original. The “Uma Celebração A Os Tincoãs” LP thus represents a carefully crafted homage to the triad of vocals, percussion, and horns, and marks the beginning of Pra Gira Girar’s own recording work.

Psychic Reader announces Bad Shock: the first-ever reissue of 1970s Indonesian hard-rock trio SAS Group. Bad Shock is a compilation album featuring songs from SAS Group’s highly collectible first LP—a copy of which fetched $4,000 on Discogs back in June—as well as the band’s later hits. The first press was a limited 200-vinyl run that sold out two months after its February release. Composed of Arthur Kaunang (bass, keyboard, vocals), Soenatha Tanjung (guitar, vocals), and Syech Abidin (drums, vocals), SAS Group formed in Surabaya, Indonesia in 1975. SAS was the spiritual continuation of legendary rock band AKA, which featured the same personnel in addition to frontman Ucok Harahap. Harahap left AKA in the mid ‘70s to start his solo career, and SAS was formed. By 1991 SAS had produced 15 full-length albums and two compilation albums. Bad Shock focuses on their 1976-1981 output, delivering sprawling, prog-influenced hard rock laced with dueling synth and guitar solos. Almost every track is sung in English and holds its own against the best Western rock of the era. But “Jika Nanti Kau Panggil Namaku,” a mellow love ballad sprinkled with disco accents, closes the album on an unexpectedly sweet note.

This is the 1978 debut album by Carioca, one of Japan’s leading Brazilian fusion units of the 1970s and 1980s. Growing up in the wake of influential figures in Brazilian music such as Baden Powell and Aloysio De Oliveira, from the early 1960s onwards, the Brazilian guitarist Rosinha De Valenca, thanks to her skills, achieved a certain notoriety, becoming part of important groups such as Sergio Mendes' Brasil 65 and collaborating at the highest level with Brazilian artists such as Nara Leao, Maria Bethania, Joao Donato and American stars such as Henry Mancini, Sarah Vaughan and Stan Getz. "Apresentado" wass her first album, released in 1963. A great collection of pure bossa nova dominated by her warm and virtuoso guitar. The 12" released on Selva Discos under the title "Baiana: Brasingles Volume 2 2026 Repress" presents the road-tested live version of the Brazilian concert classic on vinyl for the first time and comes as a reissue in a full-color sleeve.

Behind the track is the group Barbatuques, a well-known Brazilian ensemble of body percussionists, who already adapted "Baianá" in 2005 for the album "O Seguinte É Esse." The song was originally composed by Maria do Carmo Barbosa; in the Barbatuques version, jaw harp elements and a stomping rhythm shape the distinctive motif, which has since become a fixed part of their concerts. This striking approach to arrangement defines the group’s style: vocal and body percussion as the melodic and rhythmic leitmotif.

The B-side delivers a purpose-built club version: Jan Schulte, here under the alias Wolf Müller (also known as Bufiman), added extra drums from a library of so-called "drumdrops," creating a DJ-friendly rework. The release is part of the Brasingles series on Selva Discos, which pairs the original recording on the A-side with a reworked version on the B-side, aiming to appeal equally to DJs and listeners.

The "Dona Diva / Funky Gafieira" 7" by S-Tone Inc. & Toco is released on Schema and brings together two new tracks that pick up the spirit of 1970s Brazilian soul-funk and translate it into a contemporary form.

"Dona Diva" is built around a distinctive bassline and warm guitar arrangements; S-Tone Inc.’s production leans into velvety, organic tones and keeps Toco’s smooth, velvety voice at the center. "Funky Gafieira" deepens the groove with lush horn textures and danceable percussion patterns, allowing both cuts to vividly evoke the vibe of Rio’s dance halls and the Black Rio aesthetic of the late seventies. Melodically, fluid vocal lines and delicate harmonies dominate, oscillating between hints of samba and soulful balladry.

Songwriting credits go to Tomaz Di Cunto and Stefano Tirone; Tirone is also responsible for arrangement and production. The sessions feature contributions from Priscila Ribas (backing vocals), Gianluca Petrella (trombone), as well as Stefano “Marlon” Marinoni (saxophone, flute), Marco Brioschi (trumpet), and Marquinho Baboo (percussion). Recording and mixing took place at Panorama Studios in Milan, with mastering handled by Francesco Borrelli. This edition puts the focus on the record’s original sound, with Alejandro Bravo as vocalist and guitarist at the center.

The recordings come from a 1971 home session in Acapulco and form the core of the “Natural” LP: stripped-down arrangements with nylon-string guitar, sparse percussion, and vocal phrasing in Spanish. On this full-length album, Alejandro Bravo combines elements of bossa nova and samba with pop-leaning song structures, creating an intimate, South America–inflected sonic world that also recalls contemporary singer-songwriter forms.

The "¡Apúntalo!" This was the second release on Aura, the band’s own label established under Polydor, and their 13th studio album overall. With this release, Amor In Sound accompanies the artistic reorientation of João Pimenta Gomes and embraces a stripped-down, contemplative sonic aesthetic.

At the center of the sound image is the Cristal Baschet, whose glass-resonant textures tend to lay the foundations, while bass and cello carry the melodic lines; the sessions feature, among others, Abe Rounds (drums, percussion) and Gabe Noel (bass, cello). Recording and mixing followed a live philosophy: level changes and effects were printed in real time to the final two-track master, preserving the immediate presence of the performances. A joint release between Discos Nada & Litoral. Alcides Neves’ unique second LP ‚Des (Trambelhar) Ou Não’ is reissued for the first time on vinyl, alongside his first release ‚Tempo de Fratura‘.

Somewhat of a concept album, this LP was conceived as having a predominantly experimental A-side and a more folky B-side, with songs influenced by Alcides’ native Northeastern Brazil. Alcides chose to release his second record independently as well, owing to the risk-averse nature of the labels at the time. Indeed, rather than adapting to the demands of the labels and making more romantic or commercial music, Alcides went in the opposite direction and released the most experimental record of his career.

The result is an album with distinct identities on each side but with an experimental bent throughout. The LP’s sounds are reflected by its striking cover, which collates some of Alcides’ artistic heroes - Frank Zappa, Gilberto Gil, Jimi Hendrix, Arnold Schönberg, Igor Stravinsky (to whom he also dedicated a song on the LP) among others, above an artwork in the style of Northeastern Brazilian folk art.

By blending traditional regional Northeastern elements with an experimental approach and influences from 20th century classical music, Alcides Neves crafted one of the most unique Brazilian records.

Carefully remastered by Paulo Torres with updated original artwork, the record is reissued in a gatefold sleeve including a promotional image from the time of release.
