Ronnie James Dio's sinister howl and wicked songcraft bewitched hard rock fans in the Seventies and Eighties during his memorable stints with Elf, Rainbow, and Black Sabbath. In 1983, the singer formed his own band, launching a successful solo career that culminated in 10 studio albums and sales of more than 10 million records worldwide.

Rhino follows Dio through the band's early years with A DECADE OF DIO: 1983-1993, a boxed set that brings together the group's first six studio albums, with 2016 remastered audio. It includes: HOLY DIVER (1983), THE LAST IN LINE (1984), SACRED HEART (1985), DREAM EVIL (1987), LOCK UP THE WOLVES (1990), and STRANGE HIGHWAYS (1993).

Fear Factory’s 2001 release Digimortal went Top 40, but it’s only come out in Germany on vinyl back in 2007. And its reissue now couldn’t be more timely. Another in a string of concept albums that began with Demanufacture and continued with Obsolete, “Digimortal” was short for “Digital Mortality,” presciently exploring the theme of man and machine melding into one (spoiler: it doesn’t end well). Musically, the band simplified its sound and added a touch more melody, but make no mistake: this is nu metal/death metal at its most intense, with an interesting techno overlay. Maybe “cybercore” would be the best term to describe this album, now coming out on its 25th anniversary for Record Store Day in an expanded edition featuring four bonus tracks never before on vinyl and exclusive to this Record Store Day edition, remastered for the format, pressed on black & blue splatter vinyl, and housed in a gatefold jacket. Ronnie James Dio joined Black Sabbath for 1980's platinum selling Heaven And Hell album. When Dio regrouped with Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice between 2007 and 2009 they did so under the name Heaven & Hell. They released the live albums Live at Radio City Music Hall in 2007 and Neon Knights Live at Wacken in 2009, plus their sole studio album The Devil You Know in 2009. These recordings are now collected together as Breaking Out Of Heaven 2007-2009 on a 7LP box set, featuring the aforementioned live shows in their entirety. These were the last recordings made by Ronnie James Dio before he sadly passed away in 2010, and represent a fitting testament to the music he made with Black Sabbath, featuring tracks from Heaven And Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumanizer and The Dio Years.

The album was recorded in three weeks with producer Flemming Rasmussen at the Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The artwork, based on a concept by the band, depicts an electric chair in the midst of a thunderstorm. The title was taken from a passage in Stephen King's novel The Stand. Although rooted in the thrash metal genre, the album showcased the band's musical maturity and lyrical sophistication. This was partly because bassist Cliff Burton introduced the basics of music theory to the rest of the band and had more input in the songwriting. Instead of relying strictly on fast tempos as on Kill 'Em All, Metallica broadened its approach by employing acoustic guitars, extended instrumentals, and more complex harmonies.

Yellow Eyes present their seventh full-length album, Confusion Gate, blood relative of 2023's Master's Murmur.

In their 15th year, Yellow Eyes push their distinctive style of Black Metal a step further. Prominently displayed is their signature capacity for contrast: colorful, unpredictable melody with violent power, dissonance with anthemic beauty, harshness with warmth, impulsivity with patience. But this album, the band's longest yet, is full of secrets. Confusion Gate, though a singular release that stands entirely on its own, toys with the listener by quoting abstractly from its sister album Master's Murmur, transfiguring cryptic industrial folk into howling Black Metal. Unexpectedly veering into a rephrased melody or lyric, or presenting a familiar idea upside down, Confusion Gate hides its deceptions in plain sight.

Compositional and textural experiments abound. A new emphasis on folkloric simplicity and visceral sadness, as well as ethereal ornamentations of synth and medieval instruments, serve as staging grounds for some of Yellow Eyes's most haunting material to date.

Will Skarstad's impassioned vocal performance is tarnished, doomed, and older, giving threat to the mythos of his brother Sam's lyrics.

Guided by a chorus of voices, from the whispered false comforts of the wraith ''widow'' to the utterances of the master himself at the entrance of the gate, Yellow Eyes trace an epic journey from the ''pine-filth'' of the lowlands to the eerie meadow at the mountain's summit.

The third presence that stalks Confusion Gate is also its most sinister- time itself. Perhaps this release from the old hands in Yellow Eyes is actually something of an admission. Perhaps they themselves have caught a first glimpse of the face on the mountain.

Formed in 1981, SLAYER assaulted the world with a new hybrid of metal and punk – heavier, faster, and darker than the rest – and set a new standard, defining not only a genre, but an attitude. Throughout SLAYER's history, the band never faltered in unleashing their extreme and focused aural assault, and repudiating temptations, SLAYER always chose to remain crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream.

Released on Metal Blade, SLAYER's debut album acted as a powerful omen of what extreme metal would become. SLAYER wrote many of the songs for 'Show No Mercy' before they were signed. Once the Metal Blade deal was inked, the band finished writing and headed into the studio with a budget of $1500 and one intense week of production. The result was an uncompromising mix of punk and metal - heavier, faster, and darker than other bands had yet dared to try. Jeff Hanneman recalled, "I was just getting out of the metal thing with Priest and Iron Maiden, and I was listening to a lot of hardcore when we started. I was into the punk, but still loved the metal, and Kerry was into metal, and when we started writing together those influences all came together".
