After the acclaimed Bar Mediterraneo, Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina return with People Of The Moon, expanding their sound into a space of creative freedom. The “People of the Moon” are not fictional, but a dimension within us all: a deeply personal yet universal force, an alternative mindset that emerges when freed from social constraints.

Under moonlight, the album explores anxieties and aspirations through groove and rhythm, expressed in Neapolitan, Arabic, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. It moves fluidly from Afro-Cuban influences in “Celavì” to Anatolian textures in “Ma Tu Che Bbuò”, blending highlife guitars with Nu Genea’s signature mandolins-new rhythms filtered through an Italian lens.

The first single “Sciallà” (2025) introduced this direction: dance as catharsis, not escape. The title track reflects a quiet resilience-persistent rather than triumphant. “Onenon”, featuring Tom Misch, channels Mediterranean brit-funk, while “Acelera”, with María José Llergo, evokes a flamenco-tinged pursuit of the unattainable.

“Puleza” recalls Nuova Napoli with driving energy and vintage synths, while “Shway Shway”, sung by Celinatique, captures the album’s orbital flow-measured, rich, and rhythmically complex, echoing afrobeat explorations with Tony Allen.

Melody remains central, as in “Carè”. Across ten tracks, falling, flying, and dancing merge in a suspended groove. Gabriel Prado’s “Ondas Do Mar” embodies this pull: a cyclical motion, like the tides—irresistible, transformative, and alive within us.

Using high-resolution audio from the original master tapes of the highly popular albums "brasilian SKIES," "jolly JIVE," and the early best-of album "all OF ME," remastering and cutting were performed by Alex Wharton at London’s Abbey Road Studios. Alex Wharton is one of Abbey Road's representative engineers, having worked on the mastering of albums by Paul McCartney & Wings and The Chemical Brothers.

This limited first pressing features 180g heavyweight vinyl. "brasilian Skies" comes in clear sky blue, "jolly Jive" in clear lime yellow, and "all OF ME" in clear light green, with colored vinyls that enhance the imagery of the jacket artwork.

This 1978 work reflects the influence of Latin music and a free-spirited approach, created across studios in L.A., Rio de Janeiro, and Izu. Freudian is the debut studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, originally released on August 25, 2017, through his independent label Golden Child Recordings. Widely regarded as his breakthrough project, the album established Caesar as one of the leading voices in contemporary R&B by blending neo-soul, gospel, jazz, and alternative R&B with deeply personal songwriting. Inspired by the psychological theories of Sigmund Freud, Freudian explores the complexities of love, intimacy, vulnerability, faith, and self-discovery, presenting relationships as both emotionally transformative and deeply flawed.

Created over several years following the release of his early EPs, Freudian reflects Daniel Caesar's experiences with romance, spirituality, and personal growth. Raised in a deeply religious household, Caesar often writes about the tension between sacred and secular love, weaving biblical imagery together with honest reflections on desire, commitment, and emotional uncertainty. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the album unfolds as a series of intimate conversations that examine the many stages of a relationship—from infatuation and devotion to conflict, forgiveness, and acceptance.

Longtime collaborators Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett played a central role in shaping the album's sound, which draws influence from classic soul, jazz, folk, and contemporary R&B while remaining minimalist and emotionally driven. The result is a timeless record that places Caesar's expressive vocals and introspective lyrics at the forefront.

The album features guest appearances from H.E.R., Kali Uchis, Syd, Charlotte Day Wilson, and fellow Toronto artist Sean Leon. Standout tracks include "Get You" featuring Kali Uchis, which became Daniel Caesar's first major international hit and introduced his music to a global audience. Other highlights include "Best Part" featuring H.E.R., an intimate acoustic duet that won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance in 2019, as well as fan favorites such as "Japanese Denim," "Blessed," "We Find Love," "Transform," and the closing track "Freudian." Four years after Nuova Napoli, Nu Genea are back with Bar Mediterraneo, a new album and journey, which projects the sounds of the Neapolitan duo formed by Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina even further. Nu Genea's Bar Mediterraneo is an idea of a shared place where people meet and fuse together; a space that leaves its doors open to travellers and their lives, always exposed to the whims of fate. Some of this can be experienced through the multitude of sounds that come together in the tracks, layers of different acoustic instruments, voices and synthesizers merging in a unique musical blend. Opening up to the voices of many different people, separated by languages but united by the sea and the music, Nu Genea's hometown, Napoli, becomes a true place of encounter. You can hear this all along. In "Gelbi", a gorgeously deep and propulsive Ney flute plunges into murky waters of the melancholic Tunisian dialect sung by Marzouk Mejri. In "Marechia'", unbridled happiness and sun ooze from the delicate vocals of Célia Kameni and create an acrobatic bridge between French and Neapolitan language. In "Straniero", your soul is arrested from the moment the slow spell-binding mandolin ignites the hypnotic patterns recorded by the legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen. In "Bar Mediterraneo", the title track, bittersweet guitar’s riffs, analog waves and choirs are overwhelming the song giving you what you would like to hear on a boat trip along the Amalfi Coast. Nu Genea couldn't afford to overlook their firmly anchored roots into the Neapolitan culture and its dialect with "Tienaté", where the power of neapolitan language (interpreted by Fabiana Martone) supports those quarter-tone strings and the uncessant folk-disco groove that spreads to the entire song. In "Praja Magia", repetitive mandolin riffs lead the song, giving space to a choral yet tight vocal line that speaks of Varcaturo, a village close to Napoli. In "Rire", a volley of poetic, deceptively laidback, lyrical fury interpreted by Sicilian Marco Castello intimately combines with a highly musical, multitextured instrumental backbone and the swoon of a chanson in its heart. In "La Crisi'', the lyrics of a Raffaele Viviani’s poem from 1930 have been adapted to a laidback jazz-funk groove in full NG style. In "Vesuvio", revaluing the evocative verses and powerful mantra of Vesuvio, Nu Genea re-adapted to the dancefloor a folk song by the working-class band E’ Zezi from Pomigliano D'Arco, combining the voices of a school choir with Jupiter-6 arpeggios and bold percussions. Bar Mediterraneo is the place where people constantly return to transform curiosity into participation, tradition into sharing, unfamiliar into familiar. When travellers come through its “doors”, carrying their treasures of words and emotions, they aren’t strangers any more. CASE STUDY 01 is the second studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, released on June 28, 2019, through his independent label Golden Child Recordings. Following the critical and commercial success of Freudian (2017), the album represents a significant artistic evolution, expanding both Caesar's sound and lyrical scope. While Freudian focused primarily on love, relationships, and spirituality, CASE STUDY 01 turns inward, exploring themes of identity, fame, philosophy, mortality, and the search for meaning. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, psychedelic soul, and alternative R&B, the album showcases a more experimental and introspective approach.

The title CASE STUDY 01 reflects Caesar's intention to examine his own thoughts, emotions, and experiences as though they were part of a personal experiment. The album opens with "Entropy," which features a quote from physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and introduces ideas of chaos, impermanence, and the unpredictable nature of life. Throughout the record, Daniel Caesar combines philosophical reflections with deeply personal songwriting, creating a project that feels more conceptual and exploratory than its predecessor.

Musically, CASE STUDY 01 broadens Caesar's sonic palette. Among the standout tracks is "Love Again" featuring Brandy, a heartfelt duet about heartbreak and the possibility of reconciliation that later earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance. Other highlights include "Cyanide," which incorporates reggae influences, "Superposition," featuring guitar work by John Mayer, and "Frontal Lobe Muzik," a collaboration with Pharrell Williams that embraces a more experimental sound. Almost 2 years after the success of the album THE TONY ALLEN EXPERIMENTS and a few months after the release of the 7inch AMORE, Nu Guinea return to the scene with a new LP published by their newborn label NG RECORDS.
After touring the world looking for sounds suitable for their vibrations, NU GUINEA decided to go back to square one, Napoli, where Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina were born and raised. They watched their city from a distance reconstructing its energy from their studio in Berlin, calibrating the synths on the meridian of Vesuvius, the volcano that has always protected and threatened Napoli.
NUOVA NAPOLI is the result of a long musical research that has become a historical investigation on the sound that shaped Napoli during the ‘70s and ‘80s, starting from the contamination of genres (disco, jazz-funk, African rhythms) which ended up in Nu Guinea’s DNA.
In this album the synthesizers fill the spaces between the past and the future, tightening in a single body acoustic instruments, electronics and voices in Neapolitan dialect. It is the first time that the duo has worked with such a large group of musicians, some of whom are exponents of the contemporary Neapolitan scene.

A new solo album from Seu Jorge reveals his 'other side' on this new solo album featuring Beck and Maria Rita. Produced by Mario Caldato Jr. (Beastie Boys), the album moves between jazz and bossa nova and is the result of a 16-year musical journey.
Seu Jorge is ready to present to the world the most ambitious project of his international career. After 16 years in the making, “The Other Side” finally arrives on streaming platforms in May. A departure from the soul and samba that defined his solo career, the new album is a sophisticated orchestral celebration of Brazilian music, moving between jazz and bossa nova.

The seed for this meeting between the Brazilian soul and orchestral sophistication was planted by a longtime friend and admirer: the legendary producer Mario Caldato Jr., known for his work with the Beastie Boys and Jack Johnson. The partnership, however, goes back further. “It’s not often that you find a voice and talent as vibrant and powerful as Seu Jorge’s. That’s what I felt in 1999, when I met him in Los Angeles,” recalls Caldato. “Since then, our friendship and admiration have only grown, allowing us to create music together with total freedom.”

The spark for “The Other Side” came from a moment of pure sensitivity. “This album was born when I recorded Jorge playing a simple version of ‘Girl You Move Me,’ by the band Cane and Able, on a nylon-string guitar. The performance was very sensitive and dynamic, which moved me deeply,” says the producer.

It was then that Caldato had the idea to invite multi-instrumentalist and arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson to orchestrate that demo. The partnership, which began in 2009, blossomed organically. “I shared some ideas with Miguel, and he understood perfectly, creating a beautiful arrangement that elevated the song to a much more luxurious and sophisticated dimension. That experience planted the seed for this orchestral adventure. "

With his characteristically deep, velvety voice, Seu Jorge guides the listener through a repertoire that revives gems of MPB. The artist cites as references the catalog of the German label ECM Records and the arrangements of Claus Ogerman, a conductor who worked with Tom Jobim and João Gilberto.

Recorded in stages between 2009 and 2018, the album is a true work of musical
craftsmanship, created with calm and friendship. The live rhythmic foundations were
provided by Seu Jorge’s band. “Jorge has a lot of confidence in and pride for his musicians, allowing them to express themselves freely. Each one brings a special flavor to every song; this was their album too, ” notes Caldato Jr.

“It was a week of pure joy for me and for all of us, recording and capturing that magical spirit and vibe,” adds the producer, who saw the work come together with arrangements by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. “When it came time for mixing, everything felt very natural. The album revealed itself and came together magnificently. For me, it’s a timeless album.”

The album features covers of songs such as “Crença” by Milton Nascimento (from his 1969 debut album); “Caboclo” by Arthur Verocai, in a version with psychedelic guitars; and, of course, “Girl You Move Me” by the Canadian band Cane & Able, which inspired the project. Among the tracks featuring guest artists, “Vento de Maio” by Márcio Borges (a hit with Lô Borges and Elis Regina) features an intense duet with Maria Rita. Another major collaboration is with American singer Beck, a self-proclaimed fan of Brazilian music and Grammy winner. Together, they perform “River Man” by the revered British singer Nick Drake.

The LP "Please" by DJ Plead brings together a selection from a folder of around 120 demos and sketches that Jarred Beeler created between 2023 and 2025. On Smalltown Supersound, the Lebanese‑Australian producer showcases his characteristic sonic palette, in which techno, house, and dub merge with the rhythmic gestures of dabke, mijwiz, and shaabi. The result remains danceable while at the same time opening up to spatial, textural passages.

As the follow-up to "Relentless Trills" (2020), "Please" continues the evolution from hard-driving drum arrangements toward more open, ambient-tinged moments. Beeler, who has already released on labels such as Livity Sound and Nervous Horizon, cites Joakim Haugland of Smalltown Supersound as the decisive driving force behind this release. “I don’t feel entirely comfortable putting these pieces out. I feel vulnerable,” he says of the work from the rediscovered folder.

"Hijos Del Sol" by Hermanos Gutiérrez is released as an LP on Discos G and brings together ten instrumental pieces that move between concise melodic arcs and more extended atmospheric passages. The selection ranges from compact tracks such as "Railroad Vista" to eponymous arrangements, with the record maintaining a unified dramatic arc and placing instrumental storytelling at the center.

Musically, "Hijos Del Sol" fuses Latin American guitar roots with Western and Southwestern hues; lap‑steel‑like textures, rhythmic percussion, and interwoven guitar lines shape the sound. Characteristic of Hermanos Gutiérrez is the seamless interlocking of two guitar parts that are coordinated melodically and rhythmically to such an extent that lead lines and accompaniment feel inseparable. This combination gives the pieces a narrative quality without relying on vocals.

Behind the project are the brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez, whose biographical background and travel impressions from Mexico and the American Southwest provide essential source material for the compositions. Welcome to Volume 8 of the Mr Bongo Record Club series, our in-house curated compilations that give us a chance to share some of our favourite tracks, hard-fought finds, and unsung gems. These are tracks that have been inspiring us at home, in the office, while DJing, and on the dancefloor.

In the cross-genre spirit of the series, for Volume 8 we have selected music from the worlds of soul, boogie, disco-reggae, jazz-funk, and Latin, with a hefty chunk of beloved Brazilian music. Pulling these compilations together is always a highlight of our year, and eight volumes in, we feel this is one of our strongest to date.

The album’s journey begins with a heartfelt epic by As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã, from the Bahian town of Itapuã. It’s an area of Brazil that holds a special place in David ‘Mr Bongo’ Buttle’s heart, and where he first met our dear friend, Luciano Rodrigues Dos Santos, to whose memory this compilation is dedicated to.

Staying in Northern Brazil, next up is a contemporary dancefloor gem by Ubunto, a DJ and producer from Salvador, which also features As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã. The raw, dusty, punchy sounds of zabumba drummer Castanheiro and the furious guitar-heavy dancer by Tyaraju & Dutra are just two more examples of the Brazilian beauties included on the compilation.

There is also a heavy dose of soul music on this volume. The Canadian-gospel sounds of Trevor Dandy, a modern-soul rarity by Wil Collins & Willpower (which has been on our list for years), and a soul-stepper masterpiece by Tommy McGee, are just a handful of the highlights. Not stopping there, we are incredibly proud to present an exclusive rework of The Sylvers' ‘Wish That I Could Talk To You’ by the legendary Kenny Dope. Kenny has excelled himself with this one, fattening up the drums while bringing more drama to the horns and strings. The song now feels more contemporary yet still stays true to its roots. Complete genius!

Elsewhere on the compilation, you’ll find a cosmic reggae-not-reggae disco oddity by Tapper Zukie, a South African jazz-funk-disco groover by Mac Mathunjwa, a sought-after Brazilian compacto by Eduardo Araújo, and a Brit-funk / boogie treasure by Powerline.

Traversing time, genre, and location, all the tracks on Volume 8 are favourites for their own unique reasons. Music will forever be a constant source of comfort, able to affect you deeply in the most meaningful ways. It’s the gift that keeps giving, and there is so much more to learn, discover, and share, both old and new.

Hidden away amidst the bustle of Rio de Janeiro’s Catete neighbourhood is a small alleyway behind a cast iron gate. At its end is Bairro Saavedra, the courtyard surrounded by Neo-colonial houses where Brazilian guitar virtuoso Fabiano do Nascimento spent much of his childhood. Built in 1928, this secluded neighbourhood with its wooden shutters, tiled floors and tranquil benches, provides the inspiration for the title of Do Nascimento’s new album VILA, a collaborative project with a sixteen piece orchestra led by trombonist and arranger Vittor Santos.

Recorded between Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles, VILA is grand, tender, warm, playful and nostalgic. On this stunningly ambitious work, the delicate compositions led by Nascimento's guitar, which sits central in the mix, are surrounded by Santos’ breathtaking orchestral arrangements which swirl in all directions: complimenting, questioning, responding; in constant conversation.

Like the eclecticism of the architecture Do Nascimento grew up surrounded by, his music straddles many worlds at once. He is known as a Brazilian acoustic guitar master and as such has collaborated with Arthur Verocai, Airto Moreira and Itibere Zwarg. But equally at home in Los Angeles's jazz and experimental music scenes, Do Nascimento is also known for his work with artists like Sam Gendel and Carlos Nino.

Vittor Santos is an arranger and Trombonist who has worked extensively with many of the greats of Brazilian music, including João Donato, Marcos Valle, Toninho Horta, and Elza Soares.

Over the past two decades, Berlin-based producer Hulk Hodn has quietly cemented himself as a cornerstone of the European beatmaking community. Much of that foundation was built alongside Cologne wordsmith Retrogott. Across a staggering run of a dozen collaborative albums, the duo became the gold standard for independent, sample-heavy hip-hop and German rap. Hodn’s dusty soundscapes and unquantized, head-nodding grooves have always spoken for themselves, a testament to physical music culture, no fleeting digital hype. Now, Sichtexot Records is proud to announce his latest full-length album, a project that honors those deep boom-bap roots while pushing his sound into expansive new territories.

Stepping away from the traditional, isolated beatmaker paradigm, the new LP is the culmination of Zahlbach Publishing songwriting camps held in Limoux, France, throughout 2023 and 2024. Hulk Hodn has crafted what is arguably his most versatile and creative project to date. The record moves between raw, foundational hip-hop, warm neo-soul, wonky instrumental beats, and progressive rap.

To bring this vision to life, Hodn assembled a striking cast of collaborators. The vocal roster spans the globe, featuring Paris’ own Ichon, New York based rap visionary ovrkast., UK vocalists Raelle and Lex Amour, and Madrid lofi-rap standout Cráneo. He is equally matched on the production and instrumentation side, trading ideas with a heavyweight lineup of peers including FloFilz, Wun Two, Gabiga, Matt Wilde, Greedo, Teo and halfpastseven.

The new album will be released on September 4th, 2026, via Sichtexot Records. It will be available across all digital platforms and as a limited-edition vinyl pressing.

Pilgrim's Paradise is Daniel Caesar's second EP, released independently on November 12, 2015. While Freudian (2017) became his commercial breakthrough, Pilgrim's Paradise is widely considered the project that established his artistic identity. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, folk, and jazz influences, the seven-track EP introduced the intimate songwriting, spiritual themes, and emotionally rich vocal performances that would later define his career.

The EP was created during a formative period in Caesar's life as he reflected on faith, love, identity, and personal growth. Growing up in a deeply religious household, he often found himself navigating the tension between spirituality and human desire, a theme that runs throughout the project. Rather than presenting straightforward love songs, Pilgrim's Paradise explores vulnerability, loneliness, redemption, and the search for inner peace. Its title reflects the idea of life as a spiritual journey, with "pilgrimage" serving as a metaphor for self-discovery and emotional healing.

Musically, the EP is understated and organic. Built around warm piano, subtle guitar arrangements, sparse percussion, and layered harmonies, the production creates an intimate atmosphere that allows Caesar's expressive vocals to take center stage. Frequent collaborators Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans helped shape the project's sound, while Toronto jazz collective BADBADNOTGOOD appears on "Paradise" alongside Sean Leon, adding a richer instrumental texture.

Among the standout tracks, "Death & Taxes" examines the inevitability of hardship and the desire for purpose, while "Paradise" reflects on the tension between temptation and salvation. "Streetcar," a reimagining of Kanye West's "Street Lights" from 808s & Heartbreak, has become one of Caesar's most beloved songs, transforming the original into a soulful, acoustic meditation on change, loss, and acceptance. The EP closes with "Little Rowboat," a gentle and hopeful conclusion that reinforces the themes of perseverance and emotional resilience.

Although Pilgrim's Paradise was released independently and received limited mainstream attention at first, it earned widespread critical praise and helped Daniel Caesar build a devoted following through word of mouth and streaming platforms. The project was longlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize, and songs such as "Streetcar" and "Paradise" remain fan favorites. More importantly, the EP laid the artistic foundation for Freudian, which would propel Caesar to international recognition two years later.

With similar projects, International Anthem often uses live recordings as raw material that is then carefully edited — an approach that is likely to lend this document its characteristic dramatic arc as well.

Gap Mangione's monumentally influential Diana In The Autumn Wind. AKA BEWITH200LP. And, without question, Be With's White Whale.

They said it could never be done. And with good reason.

We've spent the past 12 years trying to license this legendary 1968 recording from Gap and, after much work, it's finally here. Remarkably, this is the first ever vinyl reissue of Gap Mangione's Diana In The Autumn Wind, produced with the full and extensive participation of Gap. An exceedingly rare album, it's been coveted by funk, soul, jazz and hip-hop sample fiends for decades.

It's unarguably *the* most sought after album for J Dilla / Madlib sample collectors. It has also been brilliantly sampled by A Tribe Called Quest, Large Professor, Ghostface Killah, Kendrick Lamar and Talib Kweli.

But this record is so much more than a sample-spotters curio. It's solid gold throughout. Bursting with killer funky-jazz grooves and tracks adorned with warm electric piano, the release is notable for featuring some extremely significant players at the very outset of their careers; Tony Levin, at 21, whose superb playing on both acoustic and electric bass was the harmonic mainstay of the trio and Steve Gadd, at 23, one of the greatest drummers of his generation.

With acceptable copies of this holy grail changing hands for $400, to call this reissue "much-needed" underplays just how vital it is. Gap's story is told in his words alongside rare photos across a sumptuously designed 2-page insert and, to augment this deluxe edition further, its all wrapped up in a beautiful, no-expense-spared luxury tip-on sleeve, as per the original hens-teeth release. And, while we're talking packaging, just take a look at that cover - a work of art in and of itself.

The tracks are short but complex, with that extraordinary rhythm section backing the beautiful piano, organ and electric piano work of Gap. It's like the best ever library funk breaks record you never heard - but all your favourite golden age rap producers were all over it, long ago. It's a stunning blend of the vibrant, driving music of the Gap Mangione Trio coupled with the sensitive composition and superb orchestration of Gap's legendary brother, Chuck Mangione, who helmed an amalgam of seemingly disparate elements – rock, big band jazz, solo improvisation and "classical" music - into a spectacularly cohesive whole that has aged wonderfully well. As Gap himself notes in the liners, "with this group I was able to explore and add new and exciting elements from rock, Brazilian and then-current pop music."

Opener "Boy With Toys" triumphantly swaggers out the gate, all big band horns, flutes and dextrous organ work. The synthesis of everything going on is nothing short of stunning. When one wise YouTube commentator called this tune "old school superhero music", Gap agreed. Rap luminaries did, too, amongst them Talib Kweli, who rapped over DJ Scratch's chopped up intro for "Shock Body" on his Quality album back in 2002.

You've barely recovered from that incredibly affecting opener when you get hit over the head with the exquisite title-track. And now you see how two of the greatest beats of all time emerged from one single track produced nearly 50 years earlier. Unforgettably utilised by Dilla for Slum Village's heartbreakingly good "Fall In Love" and then Madlib for his "Official" beat for Dilla to rap over, on the Jaylib record. Regardless of the records it went on to spawn, this is just a staggering tune in its own right. Be beguiled by the flutes and the flutter tonguing, the counter-melody from the trombones, the soprano sax solo. All of it. Simply beautiful.

The questing organ and horn workout "Long Hair Soulful" deserves a lot more attention, overshadowed somewhat by the opening two monsters but no less fantastic. It swings, it grooves and Gadd and Levin truly cook. Up next, Gap's wonderfully percussive, mellifluously piano-heavy cover of "Yesterday" by some fellas called The Beatles. It's a subtly arresting gem. "The XIth Commandment" is damn fine, with thick, gorgeous electric piano and snappy drum work underpinning chaotic soundtracky horns. To close out the side, "St. Thomas" showcases the "fourth" member of the Gap Mangione Trio, conga drummer Dhui Mandingo. Having performed with the Trio since 1965, Dhui‘s African-based and jazz-latin-influenced style amazed listeners and its way to hear why.

Opening the B-Side, standard "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You" breezes along in the late-night jazz club fashion before things get super deep with the outstanding and - up to now - un-sampled "Pond With Swans". It's simply heavenly, and how its moody, melancholic intro has yet to be pilfered is anybody's guess. It oscillates between gentle, sombre movements and bombastic grooves, equally hypnotic and joyous. The rendition of "You Are My Sunshine" is yet another showcase for Gap's virtuoso playing and Gadd's mastery of the pocket. Indeed Gadd's drumming on "Free Again" is nothing short of neck-SNAPPING! Ghostface took it for not one but two "Iron's Theme" tracks across his seminal Supreme Clientele. It's got that Galt MacDermot "Coffee Cold" feel. Suuuuuper cool. The frantic "Dream On Little Dreamer" hurtles along and must've surely had the whole room absolutely swinging from the chandeliers back in Rochester in the late 60s. The album closes with the magnificent Graduate Medley, featuring memorable renditions of "Scarborough Fair", "The Sounds of Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson". The warm electric piano lines of the former were sampled by The Ummah (Dilla again!) for Tribe's "Pad & Pen" from their reappraised final album, The Love Movement, as well as by Large Professor on his much-loved "The LP (For My People)".

Under the watchful eye - and extremely attentive ears - of Gap Mangione himself, the audio for Diana In The Autumn Wind has been carefully remastered by Be With regular Simon Francis, with a few much needed tweaks here and there, according to the artist's wishes. At the prestigious Abbey Road Studios, Cicely Balston's expert skills have made sure nothing is lost in the cut whilst the records have been pressed to the highest possible standard at the always stellar Record Industry in Holland. The artwork restoration has taken place here at Be With HQ and has that drop-dead gorgeous cover artwork popping like new. Buy on sight!

In both cases, one of the surprising features is the hypnotic, incessant groove, capable of drawing the listener into a sound universe full of cosmic percussion and atmospheres, enhanced by Dennis Coffey-style guitars and by a Deodato-like Fender piano. Once again Gerardo hits the mark: the production is masterful, with a clear attention to details and those typical arrangements that reflect the overall quality of the sound with delicate power.

Curió Curió came to flight by chance. Two artists, Rio-born, Austria-based singer and actress Luiza Monteiro and German producer Dustin Braun, had separately reached a fork in their journeys. An opportune encounter soon blossomed into an uplifting, heartfelt Brazilian MPB-groove project shaped by psychedelic disco and studio experimentation. In their own words Curió Curió’s sonic vision “is not straight disco, not straight samba, not strictly old-school but inspired by all of them, creating something contemporary but still nostalgic”. A modern fusion influenced as much by Gal Costa and Jorge Ben Jor as Say She She and Bala Desejo, their sound deftly plots a course all of its own. A celebration of freedom, movement, love and life, intertwined with introspective moments of reflection. Treating tradition as something alive, migratory and unresolved, the album is not simply bound by a shared love of Brazilian music, but by a deeper question that runs through every track; where does one belong when home becomes plural? As a Brazilian living in Europe, Luiza's lyrics explore themes of identity, culture, and existence. The tracks move between cities and emotional registers without settling, tracing a sense of identity that shifts rather than resolves. Songs like ‘Amor Doente’ and ‘Mar sem Dar Pé’ circle around relationships that resist clarity, while ‘Menina Passarinho’ captures the fear and necessity of committing to music as a path. For Luiza, deepening her commitment to music alongside years in theatre was both inevitable and difficult. Braun’s production follows a similar logic. Initial ideas were often built without obvious reference points, only later incorporating rhythmic and vocal elements that hint at Brazil without reproducing it. Analogue techniques, tape, ribbon microphones and live ensemble recording bring a tactile quality that reflects the duo’s interest in process as much as outcome. Highlights include ‘Bem Querer’, built on an authentic samba street vibe with a super-catchy sing-along chorus, and ‘Vem pra Casa’ with its cosmic-tinged Brazilian boogie flavour. The album closes with ‘A Cor do Meu Sonho’, a quiet act of insistence. A refusal to shrink in unfamiliar environments, and a belief in the strength of difference. It is less a conclusion than a continuation, leaving the central question open. “I started to understand that I can belong to many places at once”, Luiza reflects. “And that can be something to embrace”. Lyrics from the song ‘Raiz’ translate in English to “I value a burning sun and the cold in the air. Constant change is my companion”. With Curió Curió, that idea is lived through sound, story and collaboration. A debut that feels both searching and assured, grounded in heritage yet shaped by distance.

"Floating into our inbox on the East winds came a mysterious bunch of tracks by a mesmerising new act called Curió Curió, which we simply couldn’t ignore. Named after a vibrant Brazilian songbird, Curió Curió consists of singer, lyricist, and actress Luiza Monteiro, based in Austria, and producer and musician Dustin Braun from Germany. Together, the duo brings a fresh voice and a twist on MPB, taking influences from 1970s Brazil and blending them into a modern fusion of psychedelic, MPB, disco, and samba.

Curió Curió’s vocalist, Luiza Monteiro, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and raised listening to the rich sounds of MPB. She started taking classical singing lessons weekly by the age of 14, and later developed a career in acting, skills of which she brings with her into her songwriting. You may be familiar with Dustin’s production through his recent collaborations with the Turkish artist Peki Momés on Mocambo Records, or by his earlier incarnations, including a neo-soul release on Sichtexot and projects with Village Live Records and HHV's record label. His music has a tangible analogue warmth and a feeling of a real band performing live.

For this 7-inch release, ‘Bem Querer’ (‘Beloved’ in English) takes the A side. In it, Luiza calls a missed love to come close and dance with her. Even without an understanding of Portuguese, this feeling and energy radiates throughout the production; one of partying together, loving each other, living in ecstasy, feeling pleasure, and freedom. Built on an authentic samba street vibe with a super catchy sing-along chorus, that collective, carnival energy comes in part due to the choir that Dustin and Luiza assembled. A group of Brazilian friends, some of whom Dustin met whilst DJing in Leipzig, joined together in the studio. Half of them were non-professional singers, bringing that organic atmosphere of Rio’s streets to the recording.

The B-side ‘Amor Doente’ has a more bitter-sweet taste; the song speaks playfully about a relationship that goes on without really developing. Both parties cannot fully commit to each other, but they are also unable to end it. The production, however, has a delicious loose funk groove, sun-soaked and sultry. Dustin wrote the instrumental with Lucy Liebe, who joins on bass, guitar, synths, and trumpet, with Max Löbner also featuring on trumpet. A track that is equally adept at warming up a dancefloor as it is closing out a night.

We were genuinely blown away by the vibrancy and joy of this new project when we first heard it, instantly feeling like a familiar friend. In the band's own words, “Curió Curió is not straight disco, not straight samba, not strictly old-school but inspired by all of them, creating something contemporary but still nostalgic"".

Musically, the project combines modal approaches with a pronounced groove orientation: house-inspired pulses, dub-like effects, and a decidedly percussive attack are linked with open improvisation. The pieces emerged largely spontaneously in the studio, without extensive rehearsals, so many passages are best understood as the result of the ensemble’s direct, in-the-moment interaction. Nicholas Payton contributes trumpet, Rhodes, and arrangements; Butcher Brown adds, alongside Corey Fonville’s drumming, DJ Harrison’s keyboards, Morgan Burrs’s guitar, Tennishu’s saxophone, and R4ND4ZZO’s bass.

Production is shared by Nicholas Payton and Butcher Brown, built around sessions at Spacebomb Studios; Alex de Jong shaped the recording and real-time mixing decisions, with mastering handled by Michael Fossenkemper. Ashley Kahn provides the liner notes, which place the project in a historical context both musically and documentarily. The overall design follows the aim of transforming familiar models with respect and carrying their essence over into contemporary forms of expression.

There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin’s debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. The Texan trio is formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums.

‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was recorded at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside where their first rehearsals took place. The band listened to a lot of different types of music on the long drives out to the country but their favourites were 60s and 70s Thai cassettes gleaned from the cult Monrakplengthai blog and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk. This had a heavy impact on the direction of the band, the scales they used and the inflection of the melodies; which coupled with the spaciousness of the Texan countryside culminated in Khruangbin forming their exotic, individual sound.

Bruno Berle is a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and figurehead of a contemporary Brazilian music movement. With a quiet mastery of songwriting and an astonishing voice, his music has won hearts around the world. Since the release of his debut album No Reino Dos Afetos (2022), Berle has performed across the UK, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China, only leaving his home country for the first time in 2023. Shaped by these journeys, Berle’s third studio album, Sem Fronteiras (Without Borders), reflects a utopian vision of a unified world.

Recorded across London, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Germany, and Maceió, the album–co-produced alongside his longstanding musical partner Batata Boy–is the most expansive canvas Berle has worked on to date. Shot through with the imagery that has always animated his songwriting: open skies, morning light, vivid colours and the magic of human connection, Berle’s carefully crafted poetics and warm, delicate instrumentation drive this vivid body of work.

“I came from nothing”–Berle doesn’t take his rise to global prominence for granted.

Born to a working class family from Brazil’s northeastern Alagoas state, one of Brazil’s most economically deprived, Bruno moved frequently in his youth to follow any job opportunities his parents could find, before eventually settling in the coastal capital of Maceió. “I used to travel to Caruaru, Santa Cruz, Recife, Garanhuns, Arapiraca, which I loved and feel it made me ready to be in this rhythm i’, but at the same time I think not having friends from childhood and being in constant change made me a little numb to the constant upheaval”. On Sem Fronteiras, there is a similar duality at play. The album celebrates the collective joy and human connection that live touring brings, but it also sits with the darker realities of crossing borders. While music moves more freely around the world than ever before, our bodies are not granted the same privilege.

Though he’s never lacked self-belief, Berle recognises that talent alone doesn’t guarantee opportunity. “Before my second album [No Reino Dos Afetos 2] everything I had ever recorded was made with the help and kindness of people who believed in my ability”. Determined to pay that kindness forward and help others from the sharp end of Brazil’s desperately unequal society, Berle produced and featured on the recent self-titled albums by his northeast Brazilian compatriots, Nyron Higor and Phylipe Nunes Araújo (both 2025), helping propel both onto the international stage. In turn, following the successes of Nyron & Phylipe’s albums alongside his own, Bruno finds himself at the forefront of a thriving community of artists now based in São Paulo, but primarily originating from northeastern states like Alagoas and Pernambuco.

Much like the famed Clube Da Esquina movement that spawned in 1970’s Minas Gerais, they operate with a free-exchange of ideas, writing songs with and for each other, performing on each other’s albums and on the live circuit together. Lead single ‘Manha’ flows from this ethos. It was written by Berle’s friend and fellow Alagoan João Menezes (writer of ‘Ate Meu Violao’ and ‘Te Amar Eterno’ from Bruno’s previous albums) and Marvin Viera, and originally recorded on their 2018 album Areia e Mar.

Sem Fronteiras opens with ‘Você Já Sabe Que Eu Te Amo’, just six beats of one nylon guitar chord ring out before changing key, paving the way for the gentle strike of fender rhodes and the arresting call & response duet between Berle and Higor. On ‘Amor Inteiro’, the album reaches a celebratory burst of catharsis, with the punch-packing drums of Pedro Lacerda and Nina Maia’s joyous backing vocals encapsulating the live energy that Berle and his band bring to the stage.

With the abundant talents of this musical community at its heart, Sem Fronteiras releases 10th July 2026 via Far Out Recordings, supported by a summer tour across Europe. Bruno Berle will perform in a four-piece band alongside Nyron Higor, Phylipe Nunes, and Batata Boy, culminating in an appearance at Roskilde festival, Berle’s biggest live show to date. He’ll continue to carry a hopeful vision of a world where artists and musicians can move as freely as their music flows.

The "Discoteca Tropicana" 12" by Discoteca Tropicana is released on Selva Discos and brings together four original compositions that celebrate the rhythms that have shaped Brazilian disco: a mix of swinging arrangements and tropical flair aimed squarely at lighting up the dancefloor.

The project is the result of a collaboration between Kiko Costato, the enfant terrible of the Brazilian scene, and Zé Nigro, a producer and multi-instrumentalist with two Grammy Awards. For the recordings, Costato and Nigro recruited some of Brazil’s most distinguished studio musicians as well as pioneers of the country’s Black music scene, including backing vocalists who regularly work with Gilberto Gil. This mix of personnel contributes to the stylistic diversity of the EP.

Musically, the record moves between classic disco aesthetics and regional Brazilian patterns: “Corpos Celestes” leans on orchestral string arrangements and a big grand piano, like the glamorous opening to a night out; “Corpo Treme” is a sweat‑drenched, carimbó‑driven track with a vuco‑vuco vibe; “Tobina” links Brazilian swing with African vocal forms and distinctive guitar work in an afoxé feel; and finally, “Não Pode Acabar” is the urban dancefloor hit that works equally well as a set opener or as a furious set closer.

The clear production, the selection of seasoned accompanying musicians, and the thematic range make the "Discoteca Tropicana" 12" a compact, well‑balanced homage to the fusion of Brazilian tradition and disco sensibility.

Research Records indicate their inclination for cosmic instrumentation and kraut pervaded polyrhythms once again with an introduction to newcomer Glass Beams. Recorded at the beginning of 2020, Mirage is the first release from the artist, issuing four compositions that lend from a profusion of sounds and influences.
The album's opener and title Mirage arrives with a coiling vocal mantra that conspires with a sliding bassline and transcendent synthwork, reminiscent of early 70's prog jams yet inverted and futuristic. Taurus is a brisk arrangement, steeped with spaghetti-western elements and space-jazz to pave the way for the agile Kong. Rife with psych-fusion guitar phrases and instrumentation, Kong unfolds like a forecast lysergic voyage. The finale Rattlesnake nudges the serpent with intergalactic scales and spellbinding riffs. We may not know much about the enigmatic Glass Beams but Mirage is one epic inauguration, leaving the listener with more questions than answers.

The *Buena Vista Social Club* project—initiated by Cuban bandleader Juan de Marcos González, American producer and guitarist Ry Cooder, and British producer and label owner Nick Gold—refers to both the extraordinary collective of musicians and the album they recorded in just seven days in 1996 at the legendary EGREM Studios in Havana, which date back to the 1950s. A special atmosphere was palpable even during the recording sessions; yet no one could have foreseen that *Buena Vista Social Club* would evolve into a global phenomenon—winning a Grammy (1997) and selling over 8 million copies, making it more successful than any other record in the genre. The immense success of the original album propelled the participating artists (including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo, and Omara Portuondo) to superstar status, inspired an award-winning film by Wim Wenders and a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, and played a pivotal role in bringing Cuba's rich musical heritage to the world stage. Thanks to Ry Cooder’s production and Nick Gold’s executive production (for World Circuit), combined with the timeless quality of the music and the impressive vitality of the seasoned musicians, this album has established itself as one of the landmark recordings of the 20th century.

The legendary “Chinatown Live” stereo version, discovered after 50 years, is finally here. Recorded at Dohatsu Shinkan on May 8, 1976, it will now be released on LP for the first time. A Chinatown pop-up event has also been confirmed.

Led by Haruomi Hosono, Tin Pan Alley performed this legendary live show on May 8, 1976, at Dohatsu Shinkan, a long-established Chinese restaurant in Yokohama Chinatown. The recording, which captures the atmosphere of that night in vivid detail, has been revived as a stereo mix half a century later.

For this release, engineer Goh Hotoda has created a new mix and mastering based on the newly discovered stereo master. Please enjoy this wonderful mix, which brings out the atmosphere and presence of the venue at the time, on analog. A live recording from one unforgettable night, still shining after 50 years, is finally being released on LP.

New Parisian label, Disques Messager, presents its first release and not the least. As its name suggests, the label has a simple leitmotiv: to place itself among the best messengers for rarities and sought-after gems of the international rare groove. A mission which begins rather well, with the official reissue of these two stirring titles by Brazilian singer and composer Cristina Camargo. Native of Rio De Janeiro, Cristina Camargo had quite a short career, releasing only 2 albums in 1980 and 1981, but still enough to collaborate with some of the best composers, musicians and producers at that time. Her first self-titled album was therefore produced by Robson Jorge & Lincoln Oliveti and recorded with some of the finest musicians. “Moral Tem Hora” comes from this same LP and is a perfect example of the unique alchemy that emerged when the Disco and Boogie invaded the Brazilian music scene. A quite hard to find Boogie killer, composed by famous brothers, Marcos and Paulo Sérgio Valle. On B side comes “Minas Do Rei Salomão”, a more chilled-out title extracted from Cristina’s 2 nd album, Santa Maravilha. With its funky slapped bass, airy keyboards and the sweet vocals of Cristina, the song seems made to sip a nice cocktail at Ipanema.
