cLOUDDEAD's debut album, compiling six 10" EPs that appeared between 2000-2001, is aurally dense and obscured. A sprawling mass of miniature beat-suites and Dadaist lyrics, this strange and beautiful 3xLP would influence a myriad of sub-genres (cloud rap, hauntology, lo-fi hip-hop, etc.) in the two decades since its initial release.

Only the three members of cLOUDDEAD – Why?, Doseone and Odd Nosdam – can speak to the group's origins, but in the context of underground hip-hop towards the end of the 20th century, their arrival makes perfect sense. Cincinnati had a vital scene; home to Scribble Jam, an annual confluence of MCs, DJs, B-boys and graffiti artists. While the trio soon relocated to the Bay Area where they co-founded the Anticon collective, their Midwestern roots – in ramshackle basements of off-campus hovels, as the "cerberus of Southern Ohio" – would remain the atomic heart of their early recordings.

As Chris Martins writes in the liner notes, "The only reason we know their names today is because of how loudly and curiously they aired their insularity. They rewrote the entire world as they knew it through their own fucked perspective, and when those mysterious 10-inches started popping up in record shops, it wasn't just a puzzle to investigate: there seemed to be a whole cosmology hidden in those grooves."

Each side of the album represents one of those elusive 10-inches, each embodying a universe unto itself. Opening salvo "Apt. A" and "And All You Can Do Is Laugh" are perhaps most emblematic of the cLOUDDEAD experience. Why? and Dose create a new language through boundless non-sequiturs, sing-song non-choruses and call-and-response hooks, while Nosdam's dexterous production shifts from crackling ambience of Flying Saucer Attack to tight Ohio Players drum breaks and oblique film samples.

Taken all together, cLOUDDEAD is an original interpretation of hip-hop in the surreal Y2K glow – a bizarre meeting point between William Basinski's Disintegration Loops and MF DOOM's Operation: Doomsday. All it took was a Dr. Sample Sp-202, Tascam cassette eight-track and cheap RadioShack mic. There's truly nothing like it.

This time they’ve roped in Daniele Tomassini, aka Feel Fly, DJ and producer from Perugia who’s graced labels like Hell Yeah, Internasjonal, Bosconi, International Feel, New Interplanetary Melodies, and co-founded the Afro Templum party. “Sole” is a euphoric, powerful, liberating track that’ll blow your mind and get you moving. It's a little anthem, versatile and dance-worthy, with those beloved Italo-house vibes that Daniele (and us) are totally into. Flip it over for the “Tramonto Mix” on the B-side, which teleports you to ethereal Balearic atmospheres, be it mesmerizing sunsets over the sea or dawns at the end of a club night.

Released on High Focus, the LP "Zero Point Modulations (Volume 1) Black Vinyl Edition" presents King Kashmere for the first time in a full-length role as producer, bringing together his new work on a double LP with 23 tracks. The black vinyl sharpens the conceptual focus of his output and puts the production center stage, while the dense tracklist reveals the breadth of his perspective on contemporary UK rhythms.

King Kashmere, an experimental musician from North West London and widely known as a distinctive voice within the British rap scene as well as frontman of the duo Strange U, shifts his weight behind the boards with this project. After years of fine‑tuning, "Zero Point Modulations" showcases Kashmere’s fascination with the mid‑eighties and the coding boom of that era; at the same time, he takes the UK scene’s 140‑BPM experience as a starting point for modulating familiar elements in new ways.

The album is a feature‑heavy, genre‑crossing project: with contributions from Gawd Status, Joker Starr, Durrty Goodz, Flirta D, Harry Shotta, Genesis Elijah, Killa P, Dabbla, Jaz Kahina, PAV4N, Jae Mann, Jazz T, Cappo, Illaman, Ramson Badbonez, Micall Parknsun, BVA, and Fliptrix, it creates a wide‑ranging sonic landscape. The collaborations underscore Kashmere’s aim of interlinking beats and voices and prove that his producer profile carries just as much impact as his role as an MC.

The "Zero Point Modulations (Volume 1) Transparent Vinyl Edition" by King Kashmere presents the first full-length album by the North West London artist on High Focus as a cross-genre double-LP format. Its 23 tracks mark Kashmere’s move away from the role of frontman and toward taking sole responsibility as producer; at the same time, as he himself emphasizes, the project is directly tied to his interest in fast 140-BPM structures.

King Kashmere is known as a distinctive voice within the British rap scene and as one half of the duo Strange U, but here he steps further back behind the boards. Musically, the album connects the anthemic energy of the UK 140 spectrum with elements drawn from the electronic legacy of the 1980s coding era; the result is an experimental sonic world clearly focused on beats and modular synthesizers.

What stands out in particular is the density of guest contributions: the 23 tracks are packed with Features from Gawd Status, Joker Starr, Durrty Goodz, Flirta D, Killa P, Micall Parknsun, Verb T, and numerous other longtime companions, turning the album into both a collaborative statement and a showcase for Kashmere’s production craft.

What defines King Kashmere’s style is the combination of raw rap aesthetics and precise electronic processing: clear, driving rhythms, targeted modulations, and a dense palette of arrangements that puts the guests’ vocals front and center while sharply carving out Kashmere’s new production focus.

Jam Baxter, Dabbla and GhostTown return to complete the Dead Players trilogy this September.

‘Faster than The Speed of Death’ expertly represents the most recent chapter in a decade (or more) of music making from the trio. Born in Soul-2-Soul’s old studio, turned legendary squat, in Holloway, North London, before evolving into a collaboration from three different corners of the globe (Baxter living in Mexico City, Dabbla hopping around Europe and GhostTown settled in sunny Yorkshire) ‘Faster than The Speed of Death’ celebrates evolution, while staying true to the previous iterations of the Dead Players universe.

Collaborating from distance can have its pitfalls, however, this isn’t Dead Players first rodeo. Once the blueprint was established, Dabbla and GhostTown flew out to Mexico to be in the same timezone as Baxter; finalising songs, shooting videos and eating tamales at the summit of ancient temples all vital parts of the album process.

The result? A pitch perfect listen that emphatically completes the triptych. ‘Faster than The Speed of Death’ is a powerful reminder of the Dead Players universe; a joyride back down the rabbit hole where everything sparkles crimson and green, streetlights bouncing off the side of the getaway car, Baxter and Dabbla’s inimitable lyricism expertly propped up by GhostTown’s thunderous production across 13-tracks.
