The first single “Sciallà” (2025) introduced this direction: dance as catharsis, not escape. The title track reflects a quiet resilience-persistent rather than triumphant. “Onenon”, featuring Tom Misch, channels Mediterranean brit-funk, while “Acelera”, with María José Llergo, evokes a flamenco-tinged pursuit of the unattainable.

“Puleza” recalls Nuova Napoli with driving energy and vintage synths, while “Shway Shway”, sung by Celinatique, captures the album’s orbital flow-measured, rich, and rhythmically complex, echoing afrobeat explorations with Tony Allen.

Melody remains central, as in “Carè”. Across ten tracks, falling, flying, and dancing merge in a suspended groove. Gabriel Prado’s “Ondas Do Mar” embodies this pull: a cyclical motion, like the tides—irresistible, transformative, and alive within us.

The “Take Me With You” 7" by Lyn Christopher and Tyrone & Carr is released as a split single on Dynamite Cuts, bringing together two recordings of the same soul classic. Lyn Christopher’s A-side is based on the original American version from 1973, whose deep bassline and smooth groove form the core of the track. Her distinctive voice gives the song a sensual yet powerful presence. “Take Me With You” is one of the best-known recordings in Christopher’s catalog and was later sampled by hip-hop artists as well.

The B-side features the British version by Tyrone & Carr, which was released the same year on Jam Records, an imprint of DJM. The 7" thus places two contemporary takes on the song side by side, highlighting its character from different perspectives. Dynamite Cuts’ release brings both versions together in an official compilation and presents them in the classic 7" format with the corresponding cover artwork. Between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s, musicians across the Dutch Caribbean islands of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten created music that crossed stylistic boundaries, forming a close-knit network shaped by common histories and identities, while rarely receiving wider recognition. From the psychedelic funk of local stars Sugar Ice Tea and Cryptus Confession to the Latin influences of visiting musicians like Puerto Rican star Mon Rivera via Surinamese-influenced soul and the garage rock of Los Honda, the islands nourished a huge array of styles and talent. Antiyano Progresivo unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly transforming Caribbean. During the twentieth century, oil industries, migration and tourism reshaped the islands, creating unparalleled cultural exchange while deepening social divisions. African, Latin American, North American and European musical traditions intertwined with local forms, producing a rich and distinctive musical landscape. Tambú, tumba, calypso and Caribbean dance music coexisted alongside soul, funk, psychedelic rock, reggae, Latin music and American and British pop. Musicians moved fluidly between these styles, developing sounds that were unmistakably local while remaining connected to wider currents across the Caribbean and beyond. The period also coincided with growing movements for cultural and political self determination. Events such as Curaçao's Trinta di Mei uprising in 1969, the emergence of Black Power movements and increasing calls for greater autonomy fostered renewed pride in African heritage, local languages and cultural expression. These ideas resonated through music, inspiring artists to challenge conventions and create work that reflected changing identities.

The 7-inch “If I Let You” by The Womack Sisters was released on Daptone and presents the single in the classic 45 rpm format; the A-side features the vocal-led version, while the B-side contains the instrumental version. The release follows the three sisters’ self-titled debut and puts their warm vocal harmonies front and center.

Musically, “If I Let You” is built around a Latin-tinged soul groove: percussive güiro figures, a driving organ motif, and precise drumming form the backbone, while the sisters harmonize in a cool call-and-response style. A close look at the full scope of Masayoshi Takanaka’s legendary concert "rainbow Goblins Story"! This release captures the legendary two-day concert held at Nippon Budokan on March 10 and 11, 1981, the very day and the day after the release of Masayoshi Takanaka’s masterpiece "The Rainbow Goblins." The first part recreates on stage the concept album "The Rainbow Goblins," which Takanaka created based on the inspiration he drew from Italian painter Ul de Rico’s picture book "The Rainbow Goblins," while the second part is made up of Masayoshi Takanaka’s hit songs. Now, for the first time, that full performance sees the light of day as a single audio work.

A huge rainbow neon arch stretched across the stage, with its seven colors lighting up in various patterns in sync with the music. Combined with what was then a state-of-the-art laser show and a mountain-like stack of equipment onstage, it created a fantastical world. The seven musicians appeared wearing costumes in different goblin image colors, while Takanaka, dressed in a yellow jumpsuit with rainbow-colored hair, played a rainbow-colored Yamaha SG. The world of "The Rainbow Goblins" that Masayoshi Takanaka, already at the peak of his popularity as one of Japan’s leading guitarists, brought to life onstage returns now, on its 45th anniversary, with vivid sound. The analog edition consists of three LPs in clear lime yellow, clear red, and clear blue, evoking both the three primary colors of light and the colors of the rainbow Yamaha SG Takanaka played in the first part of the concert. It also comes with a booklet packed with photographs capturing this fantastical stage production created with the latest technology of the time. Mastering and analog cutting were handled by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios London. Liner notes are by Masayoshi Kondo and Yoshinobu Maruyama.

Norman Gervais and Charles Bals return after last year’s Transcoastal compilation with their first project for the Italian label Periodica Records and its newly founded imprint, Periodica International. The concept behind SiRENE 89 is quite particular and took six years to develop. It is presented as the live recording of one long evening, with different bands taking the stage one after another on the terrace of a Mediterranean holiday resort in 1989, inspired by the places Charles and Norm remember from their summer holidays around that time. The songs were recorded between 1982 and 1993 and gathered from small-time artists, beach-club vagabonds, local micro-labels, library records and privately released tapes. The music moves lightly between mystical ballads, digital samba and loose, sunburnt dance songs, carried by drum machines, not-quite-tuned guitars and college-band voices. The audience on the terrace remains quietly present throughout, joining the tracks into one continuous, partly improvised set. By the end, it feels less like a compilation and more like a place where you have spent the night, proving that charm can carry further than perfection.

Pleasurewood return with 'Electric Telepathy', their second full-length LP offering Simla Space Funk, Psych-Library and Vintage-Cinematic Raga-Rock grooves.

This new offering from the band embraces more of their vintage Hindi Cinema soundtrack influences — "Chump Change", "The Hoverfly" and "rammm" could easily fit into the middle of an R.D. Burman score, each with their incongruous synthesis of different genres, infectious percussion, classical modes and funk chops.

There is also a slight sweep across a too-slow-to-disco tempo and feel with the moody Johnny Guitar Watson-esque slow burn of "Good Falcon" up to the nonchalant four-to-the-floor of "Last Dance Saloon" with its lyrical warning of digital over-saturation in our social-media saturated world and a foreboding of the mini-monoliths sat in the palms of our hands that in a Kubrickian way threaten to cosmically absorb us all as a species into their individual jet-black abysses.

And then, coming into focus like a sweet slice of disjointed, lo-fi, 8 bit space disco, "Mojave Desert" is a slacker-strut with telephone vocals dub guitars, dry cosmic synths and futurist Farfisa organ driven by an almost Acid-Jazz meets Post-Punk Bass line. The song is autobiographical in its account of an excursion along the 29 Palms Highway reflecting on an escape from the City of Angels not so far away, up into the stark psychedelic desert realm.

There is a lot to unpack in this record and yet more to discover so it will be best to allocate 40 minutes in a comfortable dimly-lit room with eyes closed and maybe a cognac in hand, to have a deep-dive into its well-travelled and esoterically funky grooves.

The Orange Marbled Vinyl edition of the “Manifest” LP by BALTHVS was released on Mixto. “Manifest” is the fifth studio album by the Colombian trio and was created predominantly in the studio after a retreat to a rural farm outside Bogotá. Across eleven tracks, the album combines five singles already tested live with six new pieces that significantly expand the band’s previously known range. Return and reorientation define the work: bassist Johanna Mercuriana rejoined the band after the birth of her first child, composing and recording together with guitarist and producer Balthazar Aguirre and drummer Santiago Lizcano, contributing to a phase the band describes as a creative renaissance. “Manifest” shifts the perspective inward and focuses on deliberate composition rather than on rendition.

"The Spice of Life" is the second studio album by American singer Marlena Shaw and was originally released on Cadet Records in 1969. Today, the album is regarded as a timeless classic, masterfully blending soul, jazz, funk and blues. Tracks from the album have been widely sampled and have also featured in numerous commercials and even video games. The album includes two of Shaw’s best-known recordings: "California Soul", written by the legendary duo Ashford & Simpson, and "Woman of the Ghetto", a politically charged song co-written by Shaw herself. The compilation “Soundcity Joburg - South Africa's Township Soul” is released by Analog Africa as a double LP in a gatefold sleeve. It focuses on Johannesburg’s township soul scene between 1969 and 1981, when South African musicians combined influences from American soul and funk with local rhythms, jazz, reggae, disco and Afrobeat.

The 22 tracks demonstrate how distinctive this musical language became in the townships. Beat Set opens and closes the compilation with “I Dig Soul,” while Dudu And The Big Time Boys bridge the gap between soul groove and danceable rhythms on “How Long?” and “Can You Feel It.” “Take It” by Philemon Hamole And Abafana Besimanje, “Crazy Baby” by Phillip Mallela With J.B. Express and “Swing Africa” by Reggie Msomi & His Jazz Africa are also among the defining moments of this selection.

Analog Africa connects the music with the history of its creation and supplements the double LP with a 16-page, magazine-style booklet. It features rare photographs, historical newspaper clippings, biographies and other archival materials. The editorial work was produced with the participation of Volkan Kaya, Samy Ben Redjeb and Sam Mathe; Michael Graves handled the mastering, while Jordan McLeod was responsible for the restoration. The “Hot Box” LP by Fatback is released on Southbound and documents one of the band’s most commercially successful moments: the album, originally issued in 1980, reached number 7 on the R&B LP charts and climbed as high as number 44 on the Billboard album charts. It also yielded two of the group’s best‑known singles, “Gotta Get My Hands On Some (Money)” and “Backstrokin’,” which in 1980 rose to number 6 and number 3, respectively, on the R&B singles charts, while “Backstrokin’” also made it to number 41 in the UK.

Musically, “Hot Box” combines distinctive funk grooves with carefully arranged late‑’70s and early‑’80s pop elements; driving synthesizer lines, punchy horn arrangements, and soulful vocal hooks define the sound. Other tracks include the heartfelt ballad “Come And Get The Love” as well as “Street Band,” “Love Spell,” and the title track, which together span a spectrum from danceable funk tunes to more laid‑back vocal numbers. The “Be My Friend / Is There Someone Else?” 7-inch by Ripple and Deep Velvet is being released by Ace Records as a split release featuring two previously separate chapters from the GRC and Aware circles. Side A features Ripple’s “Be My Friend,” a track released in 1973 on the self-titled GRC album that initially appeared in the U.S. exclusively as an album track.

Ripple combines funky rhythms with a dramatic, up-tempo jazz approach and expressive harmonies. This blend gives “Be My Friend” an early proto-disco feel without sacrificing the recording’s soul character. The song later became known primarily through DJ pressings of the album and was available as a single for a time in Italy.

Side B belongs to Deep Velvet, a Detroit group that recorded for GRC’s sister label, Aware. “Is There Someone Else?” is a finely crafted harmony ballad written by Moses Davis of the Counts. The recording initially remained unreleased and did not appear until 2024, on the Kent compilation “Atlanta – Hotbed Of 70s Soul.” There, it sits alongside other little-known productions from the GRC circle. The Ace release now brings both tracks together on a 7-inch, setting Ripple’s funk-driven forward momentum against Deep Velvet’s melancholic vocal harmonies.

The Colemine Blue Vinyl Edition of the *Brighter Days Ahead Volume 2* compilation will be released by Colemine on November 27, 2026. Limited to 2,000 copies worldwide, the LP continues the series of the same name and turns its focus toward the label’s musical future.

While the first volume, released in 2021, brought together previously released singles from the Colemine orbit, Volume 2 presents previously unreleased tracks and early mixes. The twelve selections were created as a preview of upcoming releases slated for 2027, and some titles had not yet been finalized when the compilation was assembled. At the same time, the LP is initially the only way to hear these recordings, as they have not yet been released digitally.

With What's Going On, Gaye meditated on what had happened to the American dream of the past -- as it related to urban decay, environmental woes, military turbulence, police brutality, unemployment, and poverty. These feelings had been bubbling up between 1967 and 1970, during which he felt increasingly caged by Motown's behind-the-times hit machine and restrained from expressing himself seriously through his music. Donald Austin’s “Crazy Legs” LP is being released by ORG Music as a vinyl reissue of the album originally released in 1973. At its center is Austin’s distinctive guitar playing, which moves between angular Detroit funk, psychedelic soul influences, and driving, break-heavy rhythms. The recording was produced and arranged by legendary guitarist Dennis Coffey.

Donald Austin worked as a session musician, songwriter, and arranger, including for the Ohio Players and Junie Morrison. “Crazy Legs” remained his sole album and features thirteen mostly instrumental tracks that combine intricate funk compositions with wild psychedelic moments. Songs such as “Crazy Legs,” “Hot Rooster,” and “Can’t Stand the Strain” showcase the stylistic range between laid-back grooves, experimental guitar work, and compact song structures.

For this reissue, the album was newly remastered by Dave Gardner from the original analog master tapes. With this release, ORG Music continues its series of reissues from the Westbound orbit and brings a long-sought-after funk recording back to vinyl. The “Crazy Legs” LP combines historical significance with a distinctive musical identity that clearly reflects Donald Austin’s work as a guitarist and arranger.

The Dixie Cups’ “Two-Way-Poc-A-Way / What Kind Of Fool” 7-inch, released on Ace, brings together two recordings from 1965 that showcase different sides of the New Orleans group. At the center is “Two-Way-Poc-A-Way,” produced by Joe Jones and deeply influenced by the Mardi Gras traditions of the Crescent City. Deep rhythms, extended percussion and the haunting, echo-like vocals give the track a distinctive character that clearly sets it apart from the Dixie Cups’ early girl-group hits.

The recording was made after the group moved from Red Bird to ABC and builds on the regional sound of “Iko Iko,” while taking it even further in the direction of rhythm-driven New Orleans funk. The single initially failed to chart, but later became a sought-after title among DJs and fans of rare soul and funk 45s. Ace’s reissue once again makes this unusual entry in the Dixie Cups’ repertoire available as a vinyl reissue.

The B-side features “What Kind Of Fool,” a mid-tempo soul song with a more straightforward structure. At the time, the track was released only in the UK on an HMV 45 and was not included on the ABC album of the period. The 7-inch thus presents two recordings from the same phase of the group’s career, highlighting an appealing contrast between a ceremonially tinged rhythm piece and classic soul.

As the saying goes, ‘There's nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come’. 50 years since Michael Orr and Carey Harris self-released Spread Love, this iconic underground cult masterpiece is finally getting the attention it deserved all along. Those early influences of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and many more, led him to form a band who played local ‘sock hops’ as well as getting paid $5 a week at aged 14 to play piano for the church choir.

Fast forward 10 years, and whilst working for the local county, Michael would travel back home every lunch to write songs on his baby grand in his basement. His dream was to be a songwriter, and his intention was never the limelight. He penned ‘Feelings’ with Gladys Knight in mind and sent it to his childhood friend Carey Harris, who was the bassist in her band. Gladys liked it but didn’t think it fit with where she was going at the time. That initial rejection sparked the idea of Carey and Michael recording it themselves. With the help of Michael’s wife who sold some of her possessions to fund the studio time, they recorded the album at Agency Recording Studio in Cleveland alongside one of the O'Jays drummers Ricardo “Ricky Speed” Nixon, Adolph Burton and Bernardine Mitchell.

That DIY drive paved the way for the now-iconic cover, with Michael’s sister-in-law painting the genie and rainbow and his brother drawing the sun / star logo for what became their record label. Spread Love’s time though hadn’t come. No matter how many Michael could sell to shops out of the boot of his car, the message couldn’t reach far enough to break it out to the wider world – ultimately putting him in a 50-year hiatus.

Spread Love is most known for its sublime anthemic title track. A celestial, soul-rousing cut with a message which feels more apt than ever. The album though is stacked start to finish with gems. There’s a balance between beauty and sadness in the modern-soul dancer ‘Here I Go (Through These Changes Again)’, a song that Johnnie Taylor would later cover. It features a superb vocal performance by Michael reminiscent of Gil Scott-Heron. Elsewhere, Bernardine Mitchell takes the place of Gladys Knight for ‘Feelings’ with her vocals resonating deep down inside.

Other highlights include the opening song, ‘Ecstasy, Fantasy & Dreamland’ - it is sheer brilliance with an awesome flute solo by Michael Neal. Then there’s ‘A Piece Of Mine’ an early disco/jazz-funk instrumental with vibraphone by Bernard James, whilst ‘You Opened My Eyes To The World’ has a Strata East jazz meets soul quality that is spacey, uplifting, and spiritual.

It’s been a joy working with Michael and his son Jamal, who restored and remastered the original tapes, to reissue this forgotten gem and spread that love all over the world.

Night Luv couldn't have picked a better opener than this. SIMPLR's reworking of 'Let's Stay Together' heads fully into rugged, lived-in disco house territory by letting chopped vocal fragments tease without overplaying the source material's hand. The groove stays loose and organic throughout with rough drums and warm bass giving it real charm rather than polished perfection. Susana Estrada was one of the muses and main figures from the period known as ‘Transition’ in Spain. No other woman represented better than her the freedom and sexual revolution which the country experienced in the 70s after the end of the dictatorship.

A truly erotic Goddess, Susana was a model, singer and actress and one of the first women to perform fully-naked plays in Spain. She appeared in numerous erotic magazines and movies and her famous sexual counselling column for Play-Lady magazine caused a big commotion at the time. She reached fame with her erotic musical plays like “Historias Del Strip-Tease”, “Muñecas” (where she simulated to have sex with a robot!) or “Machos”.

As a singer, in 1980 Susana released her first 45 for the Belter label from Barcelona: “Machos” / “Acaríciame”. Produced by Josep Lobell and Manuel Gas, it contained two sexy disco tracks which paved the way for her first LP, “Amor y Libertad” (Love and Freedom), released on the Belter sub-label Sauce in 1981. Produced by Cosmic Disco pioneer Josep Llobell (Oliver’s Planet), this is a real fest of 80s Italo Disco, Munich Sound, Boogie, Funk and Modern Soul. The fabulous, minimal production of Llobell collides with the sensual vocals and moanings of Susana, singing about sexual liberation and freedom. Of course, when the album was originally released, nobody understood it. Criminally underrated for many years, “Amor y Libertad” has now become a cult item in the international Cosmic Disco scene.

But in 1980, a strange cassette by Susana called “Machos” was also released on the Belter label. It featured music and songs from the play of the same name. There, we can find “Espacial” (seven minutes of robotic funk and Space Cosmic Disco) and “Hagamos el amor” (“Let’s make love”), another sexadelic funk track much in the vein of the ones included on “Amor y Libertad”.

On this comp, you’ll find the entire “Amor y Libertad” album except the two tracks which were not in a disco / funk vein (“Ven” and “Arena y mar”), plus “Machos” ( a Celi Bee & the Buzzy Bunch cover), “Acaríciame” from the first Belter 45 and two tracks from the “Machos” cassette: “Espacial” and “Hagamos el amor”. We’ve also included a previously unreleased track courtesy of Susana: “Tócame”, recorded in 2007, in a High Energy Euro Disco vein.

The “Last Night Changed It All” 7-inch by Jill Rock Jones is released on Fantastic 45s and offers a new take on the funk and soul classic “Last Night Changed It All (I Really Had a Ball),” made famous by Esther Williams. The A-side combines a driving, percussive groove with the expressive vocals of Atlanta-born singer Jill Rock Jones, whose delivery recalls Lyn Collins and Vicki Anderson. Joe Wheeler is credited as the songwriter.

The release marks the debut of Fantastic 45s, the funk and rare groove label founded by Daz-I-Kue. The London-raised producer first became known as a member of Bugz in the Attic. He is supported in running the label by studio partners Khari Cabral Simmons and Rafael Pereira, who have worked with India.Arie and Janelle Monáe, among others.

On the B-side, Vinnie D’Agostino interprets the track as a sax instrumental. His version replaces the vocals with a laid-back saxophone arrangement, offering an independent instrumental reading alongside Jill Rock Jones’ vocal recording. In this way, the “Last Night Changed It All” 7-inch brings together two different approaches to the same composition: a soul-driven vocal performance on the A-side and an instrumental version shaped by saxophone and rhythm on the flip side.

Singer and songwriter Nguyễn Anh Minh tells personal, everyday stories that revolve around themes of homecoming, love, and self-discovery. Musically, the production blends classic soul and rock elements with regional melodies and modern songwriting, without slipping into nostalgic re-creations.

The arrangements broaden the band’s established soundscape with traditional instruments such as T’rung (bamboo xylophone), Sáo Trúc (bamboo flute), Đàn Tranh, and Đàn Bầu, which are used very deliberately as textural elements. Guest contributions by Đinh Nhật Minh and saxophonist Trần Mạnh Tuấn are featured, the latter contributing a saxophone solo on the soul/R&B track “Ơ Kìa, Em Ơi!”. Tracks like “Lý Qua Dub,” “Khúc Tình Yên Vui,” and “Chachacha Ngây Thơ” highlight a wide range that stretches from traditional melodic ideas and Southeast Asian influences to Latin American rhythms.

The album was produced by Jan Hagenkötter; co-production and analog recording direction were handled by Benjamin James and Saigon Soul Revival themselves. Mixing and recording took place in Saigon, with mastering by Gyso Hilger. Overall, the LP presents an organic-sounding, live-oriented approach that the band often describes as “Global Pop,” connecting Vietnamese musical tradition with contemporary soul and rock.

The compilation “We Should Really Be In Love” is released on Soul 4 Real and focuses primarily on recordings associated with the Malaco label from Jackson, Mississippi. Spanning the 1970s through the new millennium, the program combines deeply colored Southern soul ballads with danceable disco elements. As a result, the LP presents a diverse picture of the stylistic range that shaped Malaco over the decades.

Among the best-known names is Bobby “Blue” Bland, represented by “Memphis Monday Morning.” Shirley Brown contributes “When I Hear Your Name,” while Dorothy Moore joins Eddie Floyd to perform the title track, “We Should Really Be In Love.” Moore also appears with “The One Time You Ever Say You Love Me.” This selection brings established soul voices together with lesser-known artists such as Richard Caiton, Ray Crumley, and J. J. Lewis.

George Jackson’s previously unreleased recording “Throw Away Me” and Marvin Morrow’s “Make Somebody Happy,” which is appearing on vinyl for the first time, are of particular significance.
