Hailing from Melbourne, Karate Boogaloo stand for a confident rendition of classic small‑combo funk and instrumental soul traditions. Pilgrim's Paradise is Daniel Caesar's second EP, released independently on November 12, 2015. While Freudian (2017) became his commercial breakthrough, Pilgrim's Paradise is widely considered the project that established his artistic identity. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, folk, and jazz influences, the seven-track EP introduced the intimate songwriting, spiritual themes, and emotionally rich vocal performances that would later define his career.

The EP was created during a formative period in Caesar's life as he reflected on faith, love, identity, and personal growth. Growing up in a deeply religious household, he often found himself navigating the tension between spirituality and human desire, a theme that runs throughout the project. Rather than presenting straightforward love songs, Pilgrim's Paradise explores vulnerability, loneliness, redemption, and the search for inner peace. Its title reflects the idea of life as a spiritual journey, with "pilgrimage" serving as a metaphor for self-discovery and emotional healing.

Twenty years after forming in Tommy Brenneck’s apartment in Bushwick, the Menahan Street Band return with *Illusions*, their fourth full-length album, released on Brenneck’s label Diamond West Records. The band – Tommy Brenneck, Dave Guy, Nick Movshon, Leon Michels, and Homer Steinweiss – have each pursued a range of projects in the years since. Brenneck has produced for Baby Rose, Rogê, and Kirby, toured with The Budos Band, and runs Diamond West Records and its studio. Guy plays trumpet with The Roots and on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* and has released his own solo album; Steinweiss has recorded his own solo album and worked with Movshon on several platinum album projects; and Michels continues as El Michels Affair, runs Big Crown Records, and has produced Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated albums for Clairo and Norah Jones. Despite their many individual projects, the group came back together – with an energy that, according to Brenneck, “felt like the first time.” Recorded quickly and instinctively, *Illusions* combines Menahan’s signature guitar, horns, and drums with arrangements by Brazilian legend Arthur Verocai and takes listeners on an instrumental journey that lets the mind wander. The “Sweets” LP by The Winston Brothers is released on Colemine and consistently continues the horn-driven, ’70s-inspired soul aesthetic of the band. Led by multi-instrumentalist and producer Sebastian Nagel and longtime drummer Lucas Kochbeck, a tight, groove-oriented album emerges that openly plays with soundtrack references and deliberately draws on Isaac Hayes, Willie Hutch, Roy Ayers, and J.J. Johnson.

Recorded between the home studios Monoplast and Lion Sound, “Sweets” bears the marks of a carefully considered creation process: during the pandemic, about 80 percent of the drum tracks were laid down before the arrangements were opened up and additional musicians were brought in. Kimo Eiserbeck (saxophone, flute) and Hans Stephan (trumpet) expand the horn section, while Max Whitefield contributes additional drum parts; this gives the tracks organic voices, space, and colorful accents.

Style-wise, the album ranges from driving, “Get On Down”-like workout numbers to the tropically swaying pulses of “Bouncie Meters” and the atmospheric build in “Kitchen Floor.” The “Sweets” LP thus documents an evolution of the group, in which band interplay and freedom in the arrangements come together in equal measure.

Skinshape’s *Chapman’s Pool* LP is being released on Lewis and was recorded primarily at Dorey’s studio in Finsbury Park, North London. William Dorey handled the recording and production, with mastering as the sole external element. The tracks were created in 2024–25 and span a broad range of sonic gestures, incorporating callbacks to Skinshape’s first two albums while also making greater use of Mellotron and glockenspiel.

The instrumental foundation consists of electric guitar, bass, piano, various keyboards, synthesizers, drum machines, and plenty of occasional percussion; the drum parts are provided by Tom Blunt and Dan Hale. Several field recordings add atmospheric detail, including the sound of waves at Chapman’s Pool and the subtle sound of a car driving past at the end of “Take It As It Comes.” On “Last Dance in London,” an orchestral arrangement featuring three-part vocal harmonies, strings, and brass evokes the sound of old film scores from the 1960s. Overall, *Chapman’s Pool* continues Dorey’s work with finely balanced soundscapes: warm, dense textures shaped by analog equipment, weaving jazz and fusion elements together with influences from soul, psychedelia, and music from around the world.

The LP "Chopping Mountain HHV Exclusive Green & White Splatter Vinyl Edition" showcases the sixth full-length album by Ibibio Sound Machine and marks the clearest realization yet of the London collective’s long-standing mission to promote love, unity, and resistance through music. Max Grunhard once again takes on the producer role here, for the first time since "Doko Mien" (2019), giving the material an immediate, internally driven dramaturgy and tightly interweaving the production with the band’s musical roots.

Eno Williams’s voice remains the unifying element: she switches between English and Ibibio, serving both as a powerful presence on the dance floor and as an urgent call to action. Tracks like "Return to Sender" — inspired by a personal accident — work as cathartic, body-centered numbers; "Concept of Love" pushes the Afro-disco impulse, while "Love" revels in ethereal highlife. Many songs grew out of jam sessions that centered on groove, instrumentation, and lyrics.

The band operates as a tightly knit eight-piece collective: Grunhard (saxophone, keyboards), Alfred Bannerman (guitar), PK Ambrose (bass, keyboards), Joseph Amoako (drums), Afla Sackey (percussion), Scott Baylis (trumpet, keyboards), and Tony Hayden (trombone, synth) construct monumental sonic architectures around Williams’s lead. Guest appearances such as Dele Sosimi on "Give Me Peace" underscore the Afro-centered aura. The recordings and mixes largely come from the band’s own Vanguard Studios in London; production and creative direction are handled by Max Grunhard.

Musically, the duo anchors its approach in the bass‑driven aesthetics of dub and sound system culture, while blending in post‑punk and ambient hues with sample‑delic hip‑hop drum loops. Setwun’s mysterious neo‑soul and modern R&B vocal lines glide casually over the beats; interspersed snippets of dialogue give the tracks the feeling of traveling through multiple worlds with an interdimensional boombox. This description ties directly back to the early presentation of “Yeah Definitely,” which was already perceived as a stripped‑down, groove‑oriented mini record.

The creation of both albums is marked by collaboration and a spirit of experimentation: “Yeah Definitely” began as a collection of instrumentals, produced with tracker software and later furnished with vocal sketches, while “Nah Maybe” took shape over several years until, one evening in early 2026, Setwun came up with the fitting vocal lines and Hugh handled the final mixes. This way of working reflects the individual trajectories of both artists, who have also been releasing solo work in areas such as jungle, ambient house, dub, and broken beat.

The compilation was curated by Aloha Got Soul founder Roger Bong and represents less than one percent of their extensive output; the included liner notes and an interview on the back of the sleeve offer additional insight into its creation and intent.

Dennis and Christy Soares appear as a married couple and musical partnership whose self-released catalog comprises more than one hundred albums and nearly 2,000 songs. For two decades they were active in Hawaiʻi before a move to Centralia, Washington marked the most recent chapter in their lives; their shared starting point goes back to a meeting in 1986 at San Joaquin Delta College. This biography explains the consistent DIY ethos and the spiritual, sincere attitude that shapes their music.

Musically, “Free At Last” is meant as an inviting entry point: the selection is not intended as a definitive stocktaking, but to reveal the warm core of the songs and open a door for new listeners. Sonically, direct melodies, clear vocals, and an unfiltered sense of purpose predominate, running through both the early and later recordings. Quaid and Shepherd, the London duo of producer Quaid and vocalist Shepherd, have been working together for a long time and here concentrate on a direct connection between voice and electronic groove. "A quietly funky collection that repays repeated play by creating a mesmeric, almost hypnotic, cocoon to lose yourself in" Echoes Examining our relationship with the cosmos as well as more intimate liaisons closer to home; new transatlantic future soul duo Cosmic Link are set to release their eponymous debut album on 24th November. The duo consists of Florida based Jay Myztroh and Bristol based producer Ben Dubuisson, best known for the Hundred Strong project. Citing influences of Erykah Badu, Prince, Alice Coltrane, Stevie Wonder and Esperanza Spalding; the album crosses cosmic soul/RnB, low-end weighted hip hop, and conscious jazz. While the musical vibrations lay down a groove on a sensory level, the lyrics prompt deeper subconscious thought. Under a “Cosmic” header, side one of the album starts with ‘Let It Go’, a song about releasing the things that no longer serve you in your life, before exploring meditation (‘Quiet Time’), karma, and responsibility in the way you live your life (‘Metaphysical’). Side two of the album is grouped with the theme “Link” and as narrative, explores the evolution of a relationship: ‘Cellphone’ expresses the desire to be close to someone, ‘Shoot’ is the introduction to the courting stage, and ‘Show U Love’ is a request to take a step into a committed relationship. “All of these songs are personal,” says Jay. “They explore either my experiences or are written to me as understandings to help me navigate this plane of existence. The personal nature of the music is what makes it universal to all humans”. The overall theme of the album is summed up in the lyrics of the closing title track, “Our motion is perpetual/together we move/at the speed of life/ intertwined by our timelines/which coincide”. Jay explains, “There is no separating the all from the source. With all living things being products of the Cosmos, we are forever linked to it. Introduced by mutual artist friends, the catalyst for their collaboration was the 2017 album 'Black Diamonds' by Jay's previous project Stono Echo, produced by the late, great Paten Locke. Over the course of a few years they began remotely exchanging music and lyrics, building a catalogue of finished tracks. During this time, Myztroh was also completing his Masters degree in choral conducting that focused on discovering and promoting compositions from the African Diaspora. Run by Ben Dubuisson, High Noon Music has been based in Bristol since the early 2000s, releasing records by artists including Ben’s own Hundred Strong, plus Boca 45, Joseph Malik, Kali Phoenix, One Cut, Mr Fantastic, and Numskullz.

The LP “No Me Fui Porque Quise” by Orestes Gómez brings together a personal body of work that is grounded in a blend of Afro-Caribbean percussion, elements drawn from Southern rap and hip-hop, and jazzy, electronic textures. The record relies on concise arrangements and striking guest contributions, giving each track its own character; thematically, the pieces revolve around migration, origins, and cultural rootedness.

On the album, Orestes Gómez appears as drummer and percussionist and also took the lead on production and composition; the project took shape over an extended period and was realized in various locations, which lends the songs a fluid, border-crossing dynamic. Traditional tambor drums are deliberately placed alongside modern beats and synthetic layers, allowing regional rhythms to merge with contemporary production.

Key characteristics of the release include numerous collaborations with artists from the contemporary scene, as well as the direct involvement of local tamboreros—among them Félix Bemba, whose playing shapes several tracks—and contributions from well-known voices such as Sabino and Micro TDH. The LP was released in early 2026 and is distributed through the Olindo label; it documents an artist translating his roots into contemporary forms.

The single comes in a special LRK sleeve and is a strictly limited pressing on black vinyl. Both tracks appear in their single versions on the vinyl and are also available as digital downloads.

Musically, Natasha Watts moves between contemporary soul and neo-soul elements. The A-side, “Good Love,” comes from her debut album and showcases the warm, nuanced vocal delivery that defines her work. The B-side, “Feels Like Sunshine,” offers a brighter, funk-driven groove with a clear melodic line and detailed instrumentation that keeps the track both soulful and danceable.

On “Feels Like Sunshine,” several studio musicians and producers were involved: keyboards, drum machine, background vocals, plus acoustic and electric guitar and bass parts are all documented. Production was handled by Mike Patto and Toni Economides, supported by well-known session players. Both songs were written by Natasha Watts herself, underscoring the release’s emphasis on her own songwriting.

Big Crown Records is proud to present the sophomore full-length from Les Imprimés, Fading Forward. Spearheaded by self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer Morten Martens, the album explores mortality, escapism, and a myriad of experiences associated with love. Martens made a tremendous impression with his highly acclaimed 2023 debut Rêverie and has since cultivated a diehard fanbase whose demographics are as wide-ranging as the influences that shape his music. He mixes tones from ’60s and ’70s soul with arrangement nods to doo-wop records, takes drum energy from hip-hop, and covers the whole thing with vocal stylings drawn from ’90s and 2000s alternative. But it is Martens’ lyrics, emotion, and delivery that truly bring everything together and help him stand out from his peers. There’s an infectiousness and pop sensibility in the writing, executed with the utmost class and taste, giving Les Imprimés the rare quality of immediate attraction that only deepens with repeat listens. Hailing from Kristiansand, Norway, Martens plays nearly every instrument on Fading Forward, produces and arranges the album, and of course sings. “It’s soul music, but I don’t exactly have the soul voice,” Morten explains humbly. “But I do it my own way, in a way that’s mine.” Album opener “You & I” is Morten’s homage to his partner, who sticks it out “through the chaos and the blunders” with him. Punchy drums and cascading pianos make this one a proper two-stepper and an anthem for those lucky enough to find someone who understands them and helps them through the parts of life where they need it most. “Again & Again” slows the pace and deals with the heavier side of love and life, as Martens professes his resilience through the mishaps, heartbreak, and letdowns of love affairs gone wrong. “Untainted Love” brings the sweet side of new love center stage with a tune that plays on the title of the Gloria Jones classic. “Get Lost” leans into the metaphysical with an invitation to leave reality behind and spend time with Les Imprimés, where there’s room to dream. “Only Love” is built over a gritty drum break, with a chorus that is simple yet profound, and an arrangement that gives it the energy of a mantra. The album turns to the dancefloor on “With You,” an uptempo, uplifting tune about a fleeting encounter that leaves you pining for more. Martens longs for her, but joyfully—as if simply remembering that such a connection is possible is exactly what he needed. Martens is joined by guest vocalist Ama Li on “Miss the Days,” a slow-burning ballad that reckons back to simpler times when love felt easier. Fading Forward closes on a wholly somber note with “Paradise,” a tune that wishes freedom and peace to a friend who passed away. In the small town of Kristiansand, Norway, there is a huge talent who spent much of his life laying low and playing in the background. Signing to New York’s Big Crown Records inspired Morten Martens to begin sharing his own music. The response to his debut Rêverie pushed him out of the studio and onto the stage, serving as inspiration to push his artistry to new heights—heights that are fully realized on Fading Forward.

On Parlor Greens’ debut LP In Green We Dream, they announced their existence boldly to the welcoming arms of funky instrumental fans around the world. Parlor Greens are truly in top form: tour tight and more confident than ever in who they are and where they’re going. The album’s opener, “Eat Your Greens,” kicks the doors off with a Charles Earland-inspired four on the floor beat, with Jimmy and Scone driving the tune down the tracks like an overloaded freight train, it simply cannot be stopped. On “Red Dog,” the group channels the absolute heaviest shade of early R&B with Jimmy’s crunchy guitar paving the way for both he and Scone to take scorching solos. “Lion’s Mane” shows a slightly more sophisticated side of the trio, with nods to one of Scone’s organ mentors, the incomparable Dr. Lonnie Smith. Not to be outdone by his bandmates, Tim Carman shows off why he plays the best shuffle this side of the Mississippi on “Letter To Brother Ben,” a gospel-tinged shuffler.

And while the results are stronger than ever, the mood of this second cooking session was much different. The first time these three met in Loveland at Colemine’s Portage Lounge studio was marked by a certain freshness. It was new, it was the first time they had all played together. It was exciting, it was unknown territory. The session for Emeralds weighed much heavier on all three members. All three dealing with personal tragedies in their individual lives, the session truly served as a genuine moment of joy for the group. Just three talented musicians, writing and playing music now as friends in a familiar environment. No moment is the weight of the session more obvious than with the album’s closer, “Queen Of My Heart,” a tune Jimmy wrote for his mother shortly after she passed away.

Paul Murphy’s Claremont 56 label welcomes a genuine legend of UK music to its roster – Chaz Jankel, the man whose dizzying musicality and love of soul, funk and disco did much to shape the sound of Ian Dury’s Blockheads band in the late 1970s and early ‘80s.

A virtuoso keyboardist with a deep love of Black American music, Jankel’s arrangements and compositional skills were key to the success of their records, the funkiest of which not only became crossover pop hits – see ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick’ and ‘Reasons To be Cheerful, Part 3’ in particular – but also saw heavy rotation in now iconic New York clubs including the Paradise Garage and Studio 54.

This continued during the formative years of his solo career, with ‘My Occupation’, ‘Questionnaire’ and ‘Glad To Know You’ (later famously re-edited and dubbed out for nu-disco dancefloors by Todd Terje) all becoming club hits. The great Quincy Jones also covered Jankel’s infectious single ‘Ai No Carrida’, while experimental, club-ready synth-jam ‘3,000,000 Synths’ was also influential during the early years of the electro movement.

For his Claremont 56 bow, Jankel has delivered an all-new workout recorded earlier this year, the simply titled ‘Rhumba Jam’. A typically warm, groovy and rolling affair, it features Jankel delivering infectious, stretched-out Rhodes electric piano solos over toasty bass, clipped guitar licks, warm bass, accordion-style synth motifs and a densely layered Rhumba rhythm. While relaxed and sun-soaked, it also has bags of Balearic dancefloor potential.

Murphy remixes under his now familiar Mudd alias, leaning into the track’s languid Balearic vibe while keeping a firm focus on the dancefloor. Beginning with an enticing mix of metronomic drums and jangly acoustic guitars, Murphy slowly layers up key elements of Jankel’s original – think rubbery bass, rhythmic handclaps, mazy synth sounds and those wonderful, stretched-out solos. It’s a version that pays due reverence to the quality of Jankel’s musicianship, production and arrangement while subtly extending it and reframing it for 21st century Balearic dancefloors.

DJ Daniele Baldelli and producer Gaudi first met three years ago at the Jazz Cafe in London. Mutual respect and an innate need to
create new stylistic fusions were the catalysts for Baldelli and Gaudi, leading to a series of subsequent meetings that inevitably culmi- nated in the need to create music together. The project began at Gaudi's Metatron Studio in London using analog equipment and later
moved to Baldelli's studio in Cattolica, where the two organically defined their sound, also inspired by Baldelli's precious record col- lection. The duo consolidated a powerful compositional symbiosis, and the project, born from a simple initial groove, later transformed
into an entire EP consisting of four original tracks and a highly innovative sound, featuring fusions of psychedelic-funk, tribal-dub,
electronic-disco, and, of course, "Afro-Cosmic"! Daniele Baldelli and Gaudi began their sonic collaboration without setting any stylistic
direction and with the intention of not creating pre-established goals to achieve; it is a project of pure artistic freedom guided by their
compositional instinct and their experience. Constantly active with their evenings and live concerts, Baldelli and Gaudi have performed
