Lyrically, themes of separation predominate; the voices were layered multiple times, then pared back until only the essentials remained. Mastering was handled by Rashad Becker, and the cover photo is by Myriam Boulos. Before Brian Eno did it, Mort Garson was making discreet music. Julliardeducated and active as a session player in the post-war era, Garson wrote lounge hits, scored the 1969 moon-landing and plush arrangements for Doris Day, and garlanded weeping countrypolitan strings around Glen Campbell's By the Time I Get to Phoenix. In the mid-1970s, a force of nature swept across the continental United States, cutting across all strata of race and class, rooting in our minds, our homes, our culture. It wasn't The Exorcist, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, or even bellbottoms, but instead a book called The Secret Life of Plants. The work of occultist/ former OSS agent Peter Tompkins and former CIA agent/dowsing enthusiast Christopher Bird, the book shot up the bestseller charts and spread like kudzu across the landscape, becoming a phenomenon. Seemingly overnight, the indoor plant business was in full bloom and photosynthetic eukaryotes of every genus were hanging off walls, lording over bookshelves, and basking on sunny window ledges. The science behind Secret Life was specious: plants can hear our prayers, they're lie detectors, they're telepathic, able to predict natural disasters and receive signals from distant galaxies. But that didn't stop millions from buying and nurturing their new plants. Perhaps the craziest claim of the book was that plants also dug music. And whether you purchased a snake plant, asparagus fern, peace lily, or what have you from Mother Earth on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles (or bought a Simmons mattress from Sears), you also took home Plantasia, an album recorded especially for them. Subtitled "warm earth music for plants_and the people that love them," it was full of bucolic, charming, stoner-friendly, decidedly unscientific tunes enacted on the new-fangled device called the Moog. The album gained an enormous cult following decades after its release. Sacred Bones' 2019 reissue helped introduce Plantasia to a wider global audience, sparking a remarkable second life for Garson's unlikely masterpiece. What was once a strange artifact of 1970s plant-mania has become a beloved evergreen, rediscovered and re-embraced by a new generation of listeners and flourishing far beyond its original moment, evolving from obscure novelty into a beloved cult classic and streaming-era touchstone. Now, 50 years after its original release, Mother Earth's Plantasia marks a major anniversary moment. Half a century on, it continues to resonate - an enduring reminder of Mort Garson's ability to make the synthetic feel strangely alive and the whimsical feel oddly profound.

The pieces range from wide‑ranging, contemplative dialogues to short, concentrated miniatures and document the duo’s ongoing interest in experimentation.

Ghost Dubs, real name Michael Fiedler, aka Jah Schulz, announces a rebirth with 'Damaged', his first album for The Bug's Pressure label. Having recently dropped two criminally overlooked, experimental dub LPs, with his 'Dub Over Science' series, the German producer/bass specialist, now stretches his own parameters of outwardness still further, with these twelve fresh explorations of dub deviance.

For those who feel the fusion of dub techno and ambient drone had creatively ended with the demise of the short lived, Berlin based Chain Reaction label. Ghost Dubs now upgrades and extends that legendary blueprint's abstract methodology even further and deeper, floating away upon a wonderfully warm sea of hiss and static bliss. This is dub so atomized that it disintegrates within your eardrums. Its music, where the machines take over and virtually all traces of humanity are erased. But thankfully, the warmest soul still oozes seductively from the pores of Fiedler's robo riddims. Relentlessly hypnotic, seriously sedated, 'Damaged' celebrates the point of departure within its mesmerising low-end grooves.

Album opener 'Chemical', provides an opiated slo-mo skank, which sounds like Plastikman's 'Consumed' era pulsations drenched heavily in sub aquatic fx. A triumph of surface noise surfing and sub-woofer testing relentlessness, it provides the perfect intro to this compellingly immersive album. For batty shakers and headtrippers alike, there's added thrills aplenty, as Ghost Dub's richter scale tremor rhythms remain impressively massive, and the atmospheric depths of 'Damaged' appear tantalisingly oceanic. Throughout the duration of the dreamy selection, there is an obsessive balance of bewitching ambience and heavyweight bassbin shaking.

The lead single 'Thin Line' itself provides a missing link between African Headcharge's early percussive body probes and Rhythm & Sound's addictive radiance, with the slightest hint of Burial's doomed romantic hauntology added for good taste. Alternately, and no less gracefully, 'Dub Lobotomy' bizarrely resembles Miles Davis 'Get Up with it' chopped, screwed, and relocated to a futuristic Kingston Town. Impressive indeed, Fiedler's mastery of live dubbing on his mixing desk shines accross the duration, and gives the album an improvised edge, and sense of peripheral chaos.

Elsewhere, spooked steppers ('Hot Wired'), haunting house ('True to life') and 4th World psychogeography ('Undone'), combine to ensure there is a forever changing mixture of flavours percolating within the admirable consistency of the overall sound. With a tip of the cap, and nod of the head to Pole ('Second Thoughts'), it’s no surprise then that Pressure would then turn to the great, Berlin based producer Stefan Betke, to master/cut this collection at his infamous Scape mastering room. And a fine job he did too, as high quality sound and levels are definitely maintained throughout.

If you like your melodies submerged, your dub narcotic, your basslines obese, and your beats evaporating, 'Damaged' provides the perfect prescription and entry point into Ghost Dub's spectral soundworld.

More than four years in the making, Tiki Shack Recording Studios AKA Smiling C Records & Mike Patricola present Pipe Dreams — a compilation of sidewalk surf bands, tropical troubadours, and soothing sounds from just beyond the reef.

Compiled by Mike Patricola, Pipe Dreams is the culmination of years spent exchanging obscure recordings, pursuing a shared feeling, and uncovering a sub-genre of overlooked songs that could be woven into a story of surf, snorkel, and sun. Drawn from Patricola's collection, the compilation aims to capture the feeling of endless summer, and serves as an ode to the freedom of island living: Bikini-shaped sunburns, coconut stands closed due to perfect swells, slack guitars, perpetual sunsets, guppies darting through shallow water, and afternoons spent face-down in the sand.

Spanning the late 1970s through the mid 1980s, Pipe Dreams gathers forgotten pop, lounge, soft rock, AOR, disco, and private-press oddities into a time capsule that seeks to epitomize an era that existed before life became mediated by screens. One in which technology was more naive and society was less reliant upon it. Time moved slower, people were better able to connect with their surroundings, and the dream of moving to a coastal utopia felt more attainable.

Each side unfolds as its own chapter.

Side A begins with Midwestern lettermen The Sunset Kidds, whose hypnagogic harmonies on “Darlin’” evoke the Beach Boys mired in the post-summer doldrums. Australia's Simplex 2 follow with the previously unreleased “Tiger Bay”, capturing the slow pulse of a perfect beach day through low end groove. Don Moore's infectious “Water Lily” arrives via a romantic Fire Island love affair, while Cay Gottlieb contributes a dose of Bahamian Balearica. To close the side out, Tennessee crooner Ron Holmes delivers an extra dose of salt on the margarita rim for good measure.

Side B shifts into a more upbeat surf-disco and pub-rock mode. Montreal’s Dino Pacifici’s nostalgic ode to carefree summers long passed, followed by Marseille's own The Students "Ocean Lifestyle" — which sits somewhere between Shuggie Otis and The Stranglers. Another Montréalais artist Pierre Rochette delivers a chuggy surf-disco belter, while Special Edition Band ventures from boozy rock into a washed-out paradise with glistening guitars.

Side C serves as an ode to tropical troubadours — intimate songs that range from drum machine lounge to private island bedroom recordings. Japan's Twin Cosmos, actual identical twins, dream up beachfront breezes on "Coconuts Wind." Hawaiian songwriter Dennis Soares offers the delicate and deeply personal "One World," while Ossie Parker Jr. supplies some Bahamian barroom sophistication. Miles Corbin brings sounds straight from the tiki hut, and lounge lizard Glen Banks takes us into the final intermission with a lullaby live from the Coconut Grove.

Side D catches a wave back in. Meri-Lynn & The Key Lime Pie Band celebrate the Florida Key life, Dennis Soares returns for one final Hawaiian postcard, and the Latin band Acapulco contribute a hefty dose of sunny positivity akin to one of Brian Wilson’s cheerier tunes. To round it out, Rick Sharp injects a touch of Bossa cheek and fantasy, and British pub blokes Contrast steer the compilation back toward where it all began — a destination somewhere between a Beach Boy California paradise, a remote oceanside lounge for loners, and a sleazy coastal timeshare.

Pressed on vinyl in a deluxe die-cut, spot-glossed gatefold jacket featuring artwork by our man Charles Bals and cover “Breaking Wave” photo by Lex Thompson. Pipe Dreams is designed as both a listening experience and an object of escape. Drop the needle, lean back, and let the tide carry you away.

Fila Brazillia is the name of the decidedly singular collaboration between Steve Cobby and David McSherry, born in the coastal town of Hull in the UK. Bending—and often outright breaking—more or less every rule in the book, they've been effortlessly blending deep house, downtempo, breaks, ambient, and wry humour, sampling anything they can get their hands on. Their first outing was the 1990 single-sided white label 12" Mermaids, an airy deep house tune featuring a cheeky sample taken from the theme from Robison Crusoe. Since then, they've released a boat load of singles, seven highly regarded full-lengths, and more than 60 remixes for artists such as Radiohead, Busta Rhymes, and Lamb.

Black Market Gardening is their third full-length and marks a creative high-point for the duo. The glass clear vinyl edition of the “Burning Song” LP by Kali Malone is released on Ideologic Organ and documents a palpable shift in her working method toward a more immediate, intuitive compositional process. The release takes Malone back to the organ: recorded in the historic Thomaskirche in Leipzig, the work is performed on the Bach organ there, whose modern completion in 2000 was combined with historical tuning and temperament systems. On the album, Kali Malone is joined by Lucy Railton on cello and Stephen O’Malley on bowed acoustic guitar; the trio works in a closely interwoven manner, step by step, with chord progressions slowly rising and, in the organ’s higher registers, occasionally leading to radiant moments.

The first half of the album grew out of a commission for the 2023 Venice Music Biennale and was first heard in the ornate space of San Pietro di Castello; its first sketch-like ideas go back to late-night piano playing backstage at Bozar in Brussels. The last three pieces were composed immediately before the 2025 recording sessions; in particular, the closing piece “My Eve My Dawn” places the connection between ending and beginning at the center, mediating between sadness and joy and establishing continuity through linking sequences of tones. With this freedom of form in the creative process, “Burning Song” opens up new perspectives for Malone’s future work.

The Birmingham Frequencies double LP by Higher Intelligence Agency & Biosphere, released on Headphone, brings their 1997 collaboration to vinyl for the first time in a deluxe edition with gatefold sleeve. The versions were carefully prepared for mastering by Stefan Betke (Pole) and thus constitute the first official vinyl release of this project.

The recordings are based on location sound recordings of the city of Birmingham, which Bobby Bird and Geir Jenssen used as the foundation for their compositions. The program was first presented live on October 4, 1997, in the distinctive circular space of the Birmingham Rotunda and originally appeared on CD in 2000.

Musically, Birmingham Frequencies weaves field recordings with delicate ambient textures, moving between more sturdy dub elements and a soundtrack-adjacent, Lynch/Badalamenti-like atmosphere. Pieces such as “Narrowboat” and “Midpoint” underscore this cinematic quality and were later used in Peter Mettler’s film While the Green Grass Grows, highlighting the album’s characteristic balance between documentary-style urban listening and composed atmosphere.

This double-LP reissue complements the recently re-released works by both artists and, thanks to its remastered sound, offers an accurate reprise of those soundscapes that mark the work as a bridge between classic ambient structures and early forms of contemporary artistic field-recording practice.

The "Atol Scrap Remastered Edition" LP by Arovane is being released on Keplar and brings the debut work, first issued in 1999, back to the vinyl format in a revised sonic form. The new edition was remastered and cut for pressing by Kassian Troyer at Dubplates & Mastering; Keplar is releasing the album as a double LP with new artwork.

Musically, on "Atol Scrap" Arovane links complex IDM structures with elements of dub techno, ambient soundscapes, and glitch‑oriented rhythmic patterns. Striking, often broken beats meet fragile melodic lines and bass tones that come through subtly; the arrangements shift between playful sequencing patterns and wide, atmospheric passages, giving the work its characteristic sound that is at once analytical and warm.

Behind Arovane is producer Uwe Zahn, whose work attracted significant attention in the emerging German IDM scene in the late 1990s. For the original recordings, Zahn used digital multitrack recorders and analog mixing techniques, approaches that are characteristic of the album’s interwoven texture and that were carefully brought out in the remastering process.

The release comes as a deluxe gatefold double LP pressed on 140 g vinyl with newly remastered audio; the mastering was cut specifically for vinyl at Abbey Road. The artwork has been expanded and features a holographic foil moon layer; the edition is limited to 500 copies worldwide.

The album consists of four extended pieces that move between ambient, new age, and environmental music, unfolding in long, meditative, slowly unspooling arcs. Next year the iconic anthem Cafe Del Mar will celebrate its 30th anniversary, a landmark that will be celebrated with a series of brand new remixes alongside the finest existing remixes in specially remastered versions. Launching the series of vinyl releases in September is a remastered vinyl-only release of the original mix, as well as the best-known version of this classic track, the iconic Three ‘N One Remix.

Nearly 30 years ago, Paul M aka DJ Kid Paul recording as Energy 52 unleashed a record onto an unsuspecting public that would go on to define club culture for an entire generation of dance music enthusiasts. Named as an homage to the legendary Ibiza sunset spot, Café Del Mar broke down boundaries between the underground and the mainstream, charting in the UK singles charts on three separate occasions and named as the “best tune ever” by Mixmag at the start of the new millennium. In terms of cultural and emotional impact in dance music, it’s hard to find a record that comes close.

Café Del Mar has come to represent the most euphoric and hedonistic pleasures of dancefloors - in Ibiza and all around the world - and has been remixed by some of the biggest names in the industry. Now, 30 years after its original release, Superstition Records will be putting out a new series of releases, with brand new remixes as well as remastered versions of some of the many remixes from across the last three decades. The vinyl-only remastered version of the original and Three ‘N One mixes will launch the series, with further details about the rest of the series announced in the coming weeks.

In 2021 Paul Van Dyk’s Café Del Mar remixes launched a series of vinyl and digital re-issues on the Superstition Records imprint after an almost 20 years hiatus. From 1993 until 2003 Superstition Records was a groundbreaking Techno, Tech-House and Trance Label and released some of the biggest and most revered records of the early German electronic scene.

Originally released in 1993 on West Coast label Exist Dance, They Came In Peace sits somewhere between trip hop, downtempo, breaks, psychedelic music and the emerging West Coast rave sound.

Produced by Michael Kandel and Tom Chasteen, the track draws on early low-tempo breaks and the distinctive feel of West Coast electronics, with deep bass, loose percussion, hazy synths and psychedelic textures coming together into a slow-moving, immersive groove.

At the time, it sounded completely outside the usual rave and techno framework, favouring atmosphere, space and hypnotic repetition. A track that would slowly grow in importance over the years, becoming a true back-of-the-crate essential for early morning sessions and deep, heads-down listening.

More than thirty years later, They Came In Peace still feels futuristic, strange and deeply hypnotic, a timeless piece of early-90s West Coast electronic music.

The compilation LP "Serpentine" was released on Black Truffle and brings together a concentrated collaboration centered on legendary Swedish multi-instrumentalist Christer Bothén, who appears here as part of a quartet with the three musicians of Ghosted: Oren Ambarchi (guitar), Johan Berthling (bass), and Andreas Werliin (drums). Recorded in a rustic studio in the forests around Hamburgsund, the ensemble presents four expansive, evolving pieces in which hypnotic repetitions and shimmering resonances set the frame, shot through with Bothén’s distinctive bass clarinet playing.

The music builds on subtle ostinato figures and finely calibrated pauses, over which Werliin’s constantly shifting articulations of pulse and Berthling’s resonant double-bass lines unfold. Ambarchi’s guitar tone, often colored by a Leslie cabinet, generates drawn-out clouds of chords that oscillate between Hammond-like warmth and finely articulated tremolo rhythms. After a few minutes, Bothén’s bass clarinet enters the texture, rumbling in the depths at first before unfolding into staccato-like, fragmented melodic arcs.

Each of the four tracks explores different facets of this shared language: from a slowly swelling bass pattern driven by propulsive drumming with cowbell to a piece in which Bothén plays the Donso n’goni and the ensemble operates in a purely modal drive. Bothén’s restrained, calligraphic artwork and the documentary inner-sleeve photography complete the release, underscoring the character of a collective, improvisation-based studio session.

The recordings were made in the composer’s studio in Paris and, after three years of compositional silence, mark Radigue’s return to music. The three-part work draws its inspiration from an engagement with Tibetan spirituality and the basic elements of water, air, fire, and earth as defined by Radigue. This piece ushered in a new creative phase and stands at the beginning of a sequence of major works, including the "Adnos" trilogy (1980), "Songs of Milarepa" (1983) — featuring the voices of Lama Kunga Rinpoche and Robert Ashley — as well as "Jetsun Mila" (1986) and the death trilogy "Kyema" (1988), "Kailasha" (1991), and "Koume" (1993).
