The “Final Circle” LP by Skee Mask and North Americans is released on City Slang and brings together two unusual sonic worlds: Bryan Müller, known as Skee Mask, meets guitarist Patrick McDermott and his ambient country-folk project North Americans. On City Slang, the duo documents a collaboration that feels surprisingly cohesive on first listen, combining electronic precision with expansive, meditative drones. Skee Mask’s experience with hazy, atmospheric techno as well as breakbeat, dub, and jungle elements—a path he has followed from “Compro” (2018) through “Resort” (2024)—meets the slow, unfolding textures of North Americans.

The album continues the duo’s long-standing artistic connection, which began in 2002 with "Vrioon" and extended through the V.I.R.U.S. series as well as projects such as "Glass" and live documents into the more recent past. Stylistically, the record links Sakamoto’s matured piano sound and melodic subtlety with Alva Noto’s precise electronic shaping; the compositions work with subtle dynamic gradations, extended fields of sustain, and occasional digital interventions that create an atmosphere that is both cinematic and meditative.

"12 Conversations" brings together twelve musical encounters, recorded in November and December 2022, that are closely linked to Sakamoto’s solo project "12"; the coherence of the material only made an independent release possible after those recordings were completed. The artwork is by Carsten Nicolai and Nibo, mastering was handled by Bo Kondren at Calyx Mastering in Berlin, and "Conversation 7" features the voice of Emma Maeda. The “Late Loop” LP by Andy Stott is released on Modern Love and marks the producer’s return after a five-year break from the studio. The album brings Alison Skidmore, Stott’s long-time vocal partner, and for the first time Elaine Howley to the forefront; their voices are used partly as full vocal performances and partly as fragmented, pitch-shifted loops, forming the emotional center of the record. Stott largely avoided established production tricks: no basslines, no reverb, just a delay as the sole effect, giving the arrangements an unusual clarity and fragility.

“Late Loop” sits somewhere between downbeat, electronica, and leftfield, and emerged from an experimental process that ranged from drone passages and brass-like concrète moments to song-oriented structures. Rhythm often emerges indirectly here: a drum machine was played back into the room, re-recorded, and pitched down; a pump organ was recorded with a microphone placed on the floor; valves and an aging mixing console audibly contribute to the atmosphere. Lyrically, themes of separation predominate; the voices were layered multiple times, then pared back until only the essentials remained. Mastering was handled by Rashad Becker, and the cover photo is by Myriam Boulos. With “Late Loop,” Modern Love presents an austere, meticulously crafted album whose details gradually reveal themselves with repeated listening.

The “Mystic Meltdown” double LP by Acid Pauli is released on All Is Acid in a gatefold cover. Martin Gretschmann, known as Acid Pauli as well as for his work with Console and The Notwist, presents his first full-length album since “MOD,” released in 2020. The release combines electronic music, indie dance, ambient, house and techno-inflected elements into a cohesive, dynamic flow.

On “Mystic Meltdown,” Acid Pauli creates a dense soundscape in which pulsing rhythms, multilayered textures and abrupt contrasts interweave. The album took shape over an extended period and follows a carefully developed arc that brings together different tempos and emotional nuances. “Yes, Caroline” hints at an abstract connection to the Beach Boys and “Pet Sounds,” while “Con Toda Palabra” features Sophie Hunger performing a Spanish interpretation of the song by Lhasa de Sela.

Other distinctive vocals come from Hani Mojtahedy, whose Kurdish singing shapes “Goman (Remix),” as well as from Kingdom Molongi. Their voices can be heard as a sample on the title track, “Mystic Meltdown,” and return in “Mystic Feedback.” Kingdom Molongi grew out of a project involving Portuguese musician Jonathan Uliel Saldanha and the Kingdom Ulfame Choir, a seven-member ensemble of Congolese singers from Uganda. On All Is Acid, Acid Pauli thus combines electronic precision with improvised vocal music and global influences.

The “Pixel” 12-inch by Intellitronic, released on Rubadub, sheds light on a largely hidden early phase of Heinrich Mueller, who is also behind projects such as Drexciya, Arpanet, and Dopplereffekt. The four tracks date from the early 1990s and combine stripped-down electronic precision with a clear connection to the printing and imaging technology of the era.

The title track, “Pixel,” had previously been available exclusively on the 1993 CD “Magic Tracks (Deep Detroit Volume Two),” compiled by Juan Atkins. “Stencil,” “Inkjet,” and “Hex Colour Code,” on the other hand, had remained unreleased and now appear for the first time alongside the previously known track on Rubadub’s 12-inch. As a result, “Pixel” offers an unusual portrait of Mueller’s work beyond his better-known aliases.

Musically, Intellitronic focuses on rigorously programmed rhythms, dry machine-funk structures, and a cool, functional sonic aesthetic. The track titles draw on terms associated with printing processes, color definition, and digital imaging, while still acknowledging their roots in the early electro tradition. The distinctive character of this release lies precisely in its combination of technical austerity, sparse arrangements, and Detroit-influenced rhythm work. Striking here is the balance between presence and lightness: tones weave into shimmering fields where voice and rhythm enter into a subtle interplay.

The B-side opens with “Ion,” a collaboration with Pontiac Streator that can be described as a textural, hypnotic passage, emphasizing their shared command of rhythm and ambient language. Mastering and cutting were handled by Mike Grinser at Manmade, and the artwork is by Lucas Dupuy. Maxinquaye is the 1995 debut album by Tricky, one of the key figures to emerge from the Bristol scene alongside Massive Attack and Portishead. It’s widely considered a cornerstone of trip-hop, though it pushes far beyond that label into hip-hop, dub, post-punk, and experimental territory.

The album is deeply personal and atmospheric, built around dark, minimalist production and fragmented, often whispered vocals. A central element of its sound is the collaboration with Martina Topley-Bird, whose haunting, melodic singing contrasts with Tricky’s low, muttered delivery. This dual vocal approach became one of the defining characteristics of the record.

Musically, Maxinquaye is sparse but heavy. It uses slowed-down breakbeats, sub-bass, samples, and unconventional structures that often feel more like collages than traditional songs. Tracks like “Overcome,” “Black Steel,” and “Hell Is Round the Corner” show how Tricky reworked hip-hop influences into something far more abstract and unsettling. Notably, “Black Steel” is a reinterpretation of Public Enemy’s “Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos,” transformed into a brooding, almost paranoid piece.

The album’s title is a tribute to Tricky’s mother, Maxine Quaye, who died when he was young. That personal loss heavily informs the tone of the record, which deals with themes like trauma, identity, sexuality, and urban life. There’s a raw, intimate quality to the lyrics and delivery that was quite unusual at the time.

Although Tricky had previously worked with Massive Attack (notably on Blue Lines), Maxinquaye marked a clear artistic break. It helped define the darker, more experimental edge of the Bristol sound and influenced a wide range of artists across electronic music, hip-hop, and alternative genres.

Critically, the album was very well received and is still regarded as one of the most important British albums of the 1990s. Its influence can be heard in later developments in trip-hop, downtempo, and even certain strands of electronic and indie music. Even today, it stands out for its mood, originality, and refusal to fit neatly into any one genre.

Next year the iconic anthem Cafe Del Mar will celebrate its 30th anniversary, a landmark that will be celebrated with a series of brand new remixes alongside the finest existing remixes in specially remastered versions. Launching the series of vinyl releases in September is a remastered vinyl-only release of the original mix, as well as the best-known version of this classic track, the iconic Three ‘N One Remix.

Nearly 30 years ago, Paul M aka DJ Kid Paul recording as Energy 52 unleashed a record onto an unsuspecting public that would go on to define club culture for an entire generation of dance music enthusiasts. Named as an homage to the legendary Ibiza sunset spot, Café Del Mar broke down boundaries between the underground and the mainstream, charting in the UK singles charts on three separate occasions and named as the “best tune ever” by Mixmag at the start of the new millennium. In terms of cultural and emotional impact in dance music, it’s hard to find a record that comes close.

Café Del Mar has come to represent the most euphoric and hedonistic pleasures of dancefloors - in Ibiza and all around the world - and has been remixed by some of the biggest names in the industry. Now, 30 years after its original release, Superstition Records will be putting out a new series of releases, with brand new remixes as well as remastered versions of some of the many remixes from across the last three decades. The vinyl-only remastered version of the original and Three ‘N One mixes will launch the series, with further details about the rest of the series announced in the coming weeks.

In 2021 Paul Van Dyk’s Café Del Mar remixes launched a series of vinyl and digital re-issues on the Superstition Records imprint after an almost 20 years hiatus. From 1993 until 2003 Superstition Records was a groundbreaking Techno, Tech-House and Trance Label and released some of the biggest and most revered records of the early German electronic scene.

On this EP, they team up with Ethan Dalziel, guitarist of Berlin post-punk band Klang, adding an eclectic expansion of the label’s genre palette to the Quirk catalog and once again proving just how open-minded the producers are musically.

Across four tracks, the record develops a focus that fuses old-school electronic elements from electro and new wave, house and techno, with rock-inflected components, without getting lost in mere genre formulas.

Highlights include “ATM,” with Henriku’s characteristic voice giving it strong recognition value, as well as “Orange Sunshine.” Both are enhanced by guitar parts from Ethan Dalziel, providing an organic complement to the tracks’ electronic framework.

Compiled by Mike Patricola, Pipe Dreams is the culmination of years spent exchanging obscure recordings, pursuing a shared feeling, and uncovering a sub-genre of overlooked songs that could be woven into a story of surf, snorkel, and sun. Drawn from Patricola's collection, the compilation aims to capture the feeling of endless summer, and serves as an ode to the freedom of island living: Bikini-shaped sunburns, coconut stands closed due to perfect swells, slack guitars, perpetual sunsets, guppies darting through shallow water, and afternoons spent face-down in the sand.

Spanning the late 1970s through the mid 1980s, Pipe Dreams gathers forgotten pop, lounge, soft rock, AOR, disco, and private-press oddities into a time capsule that seeks to epitomize an era that existed before life became mediated by screens. One in which technology was more naive and society was less reliant upon it. Time moved slower, people were better able to connect with their surroundings, and the dream of moving to a coastal utopia felt more attainable.

Each side unfolds as its own chapter.

Side A begins with Midwestern lettermen The Sunset Kidds, whose hypnagogic harmonies on “Darlin’” evoke the Beach Boys mired in the post-summer doldrums. Australia's Simplex 2 follow with the previously unreleased “Tiger Bay”, capturing the slow pulse of a perfect beach day through low end groove. Don Moore's infectious “Water Lily” arrives via a romantic Fire Island love affair, while Cay Gottlieb contributes a dose of Bahamian Balearica. To close the side out, Tennessee crooner Ron Holmes delivers an extra dose of salt on the margarita rim for good measure.

Side B shifts into a more upbeat surf-disco and pub-rock mode. Montreal’s Dino Pacifici’s nostalgic ode to carefree summers long passed, followed by Marseille's own The Students "Ocean Lifestyle" — which sits somewhere between Shuggie Otis and The Stranglers. Another Montréalais artist Pierre Rochette delivers a chuggy surf-disco belter, while Special Edition Band ventures from boozy rock into a washed-out paradise with glistening guitars.

Side C serves as an ode to tropical troubadours — intimate songs that range from drum machine lounge to private island bedroom recordings. Japan's Twin Cosmos, actual identical twins, dream up beachfront breezes on "Coconuts Wind." Hawaiian songwriter Dennis Soares offers the delicate and deeply personal "One World," while Ossie Parker Jr. supplies some Bahamian barroom sophistication. Miles Corbin brings sounds straight from the tiki hut, and lounge lizard Glen Banks takes us into the final intermission with a lullaby live from the Coconut Grove.

Side D catches a wave back in. Meri-Lynn & The Key Lime Pie Band celebrate the Florida Key life, Dennis Soares returns for one final Hawaiian postcard, and the Latin band Acapulco contribute a hefty dose of sunny positivity akin to one of Brian Wilson’s cheerier tunes. To round it out, Rick Sharp injects a touch of Bossa cheek and fantasy, and British pub blokes Contrast steer the compilation back toward where it all began — a destination somewhere between a Beach Boy California paradise, a remote oceanside lounge for loners, and a sleazy coastal timeshare.

Zoom! Like the streak of a shooting star or the time it takes to bat an eyelash. That’s how recent the ‘90s still feels to me. And yet, the “newest” offering in the box set is nearly thirty years old, and the last time any of these singles were reissued legitimately, Mo’ Wax was still a label on the ascent. Most of them predate iTunes, and exist chaotically (if at all) on DSPs. Clearly, I’m long overdue to clean up my pre-album and non-album catalog and present anew the seven original singles released during Mo’ Wax’s heyday. This box set is intended to do exactly that, and more.

I was inspired by the satisfying and painstaking process applied to the 25th Anniversary Endtroducing..... release from 2021, and began to ask myself: “Why stop there? Ideally, shouldn’t ALL of my music from the Mo’ Wax era be given the same treatment?” So, out came the original DAT tapes, in some cases so aged and fragile that multiple machines were needed to obtain a successful transfer of the music they contained. Once the original pre-masters were identified, the files were sent to Miles Showell at Abbey Road for remastering- not to satisfy the volume wars, but for the purpose of retaining clarity and dynamic range, the end result being a much more uniform listening experience.

On streaming services, my intention is to present, for the first time, the singles as they were released. Not merely part of the Preemptive Strike compilation as several of the songs are, but on their own, with the original B-sides and artwork. The vinyl box set, meanwhile, presents an opportunity to do something altogether different.

With many of the graphic elements sadly lost to the wind, I had no interest in trying to mimic or reconstruct the original art. In fact, I decided to reimagine the singles from top to bottom. In going through the master tapes, many of which I hadn’t heard since the ‘90s, I realized that there were still new stories worth telling. For example, the version of “High Noon” everybody knows was actually a self-remix, done at the insistence of my friend Osman Eralp who ran A&M and felt that the drums were “too up front.” What better time than now to present my original intended master mix? Ditto the versions of “What Does Your Soul Look Like,” presented here as individual tracks rather than threaded together via the interludes made for the EP. The fully intact originals are still widely available, but these “standalone” versions have never been heard until now.

In all, roughly half of the songs presented on the box set appear in previously unreleased form, either as an alternate mix or edit, or in the case of the eighth disc in the series, primitive demos which represent literally my first ever bounces from MPC to DAT; the “proofs of concept,” so to speak.

This box wasn’t made for the casual listener, it was made with the hardcore fan in mind. I’ve always felt, if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right, and every step of the process was made with this philosophy firmly in mind. I had fun locating and resurrecting these songs, some of which still feel close to my consciousness as though they were made yesterday.

The compositions combine sparse rhythms with textured sonics and contain small but unmistakable signatures that lend the album its timeless aura. The fact that Demdike Stare and the wider DDS circle were the driving force behind its release and reappraisal is reflected in the selection and careful cohesion of the tracks. Liz Harris’s “Music For Two Films About Water” LP is released on Kranky and brings together two recent film scores for short works by Tanja Engelberts and Takashi Makino. Harris, also known as Grouper, combines Mellotron, tape loops, Wurlitzer, and field recordings into two extended instrumental compositions.

“Untitled (from We Exhale)” was created for Tanja Engelberts’s film “We Exhale,” which considers the Rhône from the river’s perspective. Dams, channelization, and industrial pollution have transformed what was once a vibrant landscape into a hydraulic object. Harris translates this process into a sonic world that oscillates between improvisational movements and impressionistic intensifications.

The second composition, “Untitled (from Constellation),” accompanies Takashi Makino’s work of the same name, in which fleeting images, fragments of memory, and water textures flow into one another. The music responds to this floating visual language with slowly shifting layers and a deliberately open form. Harris has worked with filmmakers and visual artists for many years, including a long-running collaboration with Paul Clipson as well as joint projects with Dicky Bahto and Takashi Makino. “Music For Two Films About Water” brings this film-related practice together under her own name on a Kranky release for the first time.

Yl Hooi, the duo of Valya Ying-Li Hooi and Tarquin Manek, uses “Running Around (83)” to document a dense combination of crushing rhythms, otherworldly voices, and cryptic fragments of text that ride atop an overdriven, dub-techno-oriented bassline. It’s the project’s first release since “Untitled” (2019) and channels the tension honed in live performance into a focused studio version that preserves both its motoric weight and its finely detailed sonic observations.

The record comprises four tracks: the original version, the “Mad Professor Dub,” the “Ulla Version,” and the “John T. Gast Remix.” Mad Professor delivers a percussion-heavy halftime stepper variant featuring contributions from Black Steel and Karmelody. Ulla’s version rebuilds the theme, weaving together woodwinds, keys, and subtle percussion to create a meeting point between ambient, minimal jazz, and contemporary classical. John T. Gast pulls the material into a rough, sound-system-oriented dance form where lo-fi aesthetics and distorted energy intersect. With this 12", Efficient Space remains a forum for experimental, hybrid-inflected electronics.

Another Day on Earth (2005) was Brian Eno’s first song-based album since Nerve Net in 1992, and remains one of his most acclaimed solo records. It featured a young Jon Hopkins alongside long-standing collaborators Nell Catchpole, J. Peter Schwalm and Leo Abrahams, with lyrics co-written by Michel Faber and Danny Hillis. The album was launched with a public conversation between Eno and the writer Michael Bracewell at the Marble Palace in St Petersburg and its cover photograph was taken by Eno himself in Beijing, during his first Chinese audio installation in the city’s Ritan Park. Following Warner Bros’ purchase of Hannibal Records in 2006, the licence for Another Day on Earth lapsed in 2008 and the album has been unavailable outside Japan ever since. Its absence has not dimmed its following: the track ‘And Then So Clear’ has racked up more than two million streams on YouTube despite never having an official release and songs from the album, including ‘And Then So Clear’, ‘Caught Between’, ‘Bottomliners’ and ‘Bonebomb’, have surfaced in Eno’s rare live performances, including alongside his brother Roger at the Acropolis in 2022, with Icebreakers at Brighton Festival in 2010, and with a 45-piece orchestra on the 2023 Ships tour.

Drawn From Life, originally released on Virgin Records in 2001, was a full collaboration between Brian Eno and J. Peter Schwalm, the two having met through Eno’s longtime friend Rolf Engel. It will carry that joint billing for the first time. The album featured Holger Czukay, Laurie Anderson, Nell Catchpole and Leo Abrahams, and was supported by a tour taking in Porto and Lanzarote before a headline appearance at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival. The rights to Drawn From Life reverted to Opal when Citigroup acquired EMI and the album has not been available since. Eno and Schwalm’s partnership also produced the score to Fear X, an early film from Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Bronson) starring John Turturro and Deborah Kara Unger, and the Japan-only release Music for Onmyo-ji. The 2026 reissue will be available across all formats and includes the bonus track ‘Bloom (Instrumental)’.

Both pieces build on Leach’s early fascination with church-organ sonorities; the composer uses sustained tones, targeted changes of registration, and psychoacoustic beating to shape dense webs of overtones and low-frequency pulsations. “Pipe Dreams II” was conceived as a score written in response to a specific instrument in Ghent, with choreographed stop changes, while “Pipe Dreams III” unfolded improvisationally on the newer, computer-controlled console at St. Peter; Leach describes listening to the beat patterns as the basis of her perception of time.

The Modern Love edition emphasizes the instrumental and acoustic character of the recordings and situates the material stylistically in the realm of downbeat / electronica / leftfield without flattening the pieces’ organic sonic logic. Mastering was handled by Rashad Becker; the vinyl edition is limited and foregrounds the physical listening experience of the organ’s resonances. The “Pipe Dreams II / III” LP continues Leach’s engagement with antiphonal spaces and microtonal beating and expands the scope of her organ work beyond the original “Pipe Dreams” from 1989.

The EP opens with the soothing, slowed-down beauty of “Mellow In My Mind,” before “Genetic Force” introduces cosmic accents. “Ruined Tower” reveals a melancholic, darker mood, while the closing “Cloud Sea” lifts the atmosphere with gently hopeful New Age chords and wave-like rhythms. Before Brian Eno did it, Mort Garson was making discreet music. Julliardeducated and active as a session player in the post-war era, Garson wrote lounge hits, scored the 1969 moon-landing and plush arrangements for Doris Day, and garlanded weeping countrypolitan strings around Glen Campbell's By the Time I Get to Phoenix. In the mid-1970s, a force of nature swept across the continental United States, cutting across all strata of race and class, rooting in our minds, our homes, our culture. It wasn't The Exorcist, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, or even bellbottoms, but instead a book called The Secret Life of Plants. The work of occultist/ former OSS agent Peter Tompkins and former CIA agent/dowsing enthusiast Christopher Bird, the book shot up the bestseller charts and spread like kudzu across the landscape, becoming a phenomenon. Seemingly overnight, the indoor plant business was in full bloom and photosynthetic eukaryotes of every genus were hanging off walls, lording over bookshelves, and basking on sunny window ledges. The science behind Secret Life was specious: plants can hear our prayers, they're lie detectors, they're telepathic, able to predict natural disasters and receive signals from distant galaxies. But that didn't stop millions from buying and nurturing their new plants. Perhaps the craziest claim of the book was that plants also dug music. And whether you purchased a snake plant, asparagus fern, peace lily, or what have you from Mother Earth on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles (or bought a Simmons mattress from Sears), you also took home Plantasia, an album recorded especially for them. Subtitled "warm earth music for plants_and the people that love them," it was full of bucolic, charming, stoner-friendly, decidedly unscientific tunes enacted on the new-fangled device called the Moog. The album gained an enormous cult following decades after its release. Sacred Bones' 2019 reissue helped introduce Plantasia to a wider global audience, sparking a remarkable second life for Garson's unlikely masterpiece. What was once a strange artifact of 1970s plant-mania has become a beloved evergreen, rediscovered and re-embraced by a new generation of listeners and flourishing far beyond its original moment, evolving from obscure novelty into a beloved cult classic and streaming-era touchstone. Now, 50 years after its original release, Mother Earth's Plantasia marks a major anniversary moment. Half a century on, it continues to resonate - an enduring reminder of Mort Garson's ability to make the synthetic feel strangely alive and the whimsical feel oddly profound.

On the album, Will Miller moves further into electronically inflected territory: jazz improvisations meet dreamy synth textures, punchy drum passages, blurred samples, and additional electronic instrumentation. The “The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner” LP by Popol Vuh is released on Latency and marks the first official release of the soundtrack composed by Florian Fricke and Popol Vuh for Werner Herzog’s 1974 documentary film. The previously unreleased score accompanies the slow, almost floating flights of Swiss ski flyer and woodcarver Walter Steiner; Latency is releasing the material on vinyl, digitally, and via streaming, with the release dated for November 13, 2026. This edition forms part of the long-standing collaboration between Herzog and Popol Vuh, which created defining sonic moments in films such as “Aguirre, the Wrath of God” and “Fitzcarraldo.”

Latency supplements the original score with three contemporary interpretations by james K, ML Buch, and Lorenzo Senni. As variations, they establish a dialogic connection spanning five decades while newly emphasizing the meditative and contemplative aspects of the compositions. The release includes both the original score material and the remixes, was finalized at Dubplates & Mastering, features artwork by HelloMe, was curated by Souleymane Said, and includes explanatory texts by Karla Clemmensen; distribution is handled by !K7 Music. Overall, the “The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner” LP on Latency presents a carefully curated edition that brings Popol Vuh’s delicate sonic language into a contemporary context.

"Hello boys and girls, my name is Enno Velthuys and I am the idiot of the group (and also the
most intelligent, the most sensitive, the most artistic and he who has to carry the heaviest
load, because this boy's luggage, DAMN, it's pretty heavy).
Luckily, I had already been through a lot when I got this ‘knock in the head’. Sex, drugs, lots
of rock and roll and a sunny childhood with beautiful views I look back on with nostalgia.
Later on I lost my focus and I only thought about one thing: how to get out of it (that damn
problem, my shifted reality, my blind spot, that piece of poisoned apple of forbidden
knowledge choking my throat)!

But I can't think my way out of it, psychiatrists are just ordinary people, and very heavy pills
suppress everything (I'll just take my pills) FLASH!

You ask me what it takes to create music or art that is meaningful and tells a story. It’s hard
when you haven't had enough setbacks, nothing more than maybe a little blues. I'm not
saying it was the right path, but at least I've come a long way. And now I'm a fish in a pool.
Please understand that this is very disturbing. It's not my waterway. A fish belongs in a river.
