The legendary “Chinatown Live” stereo version, discovered after 50 years, is finally here. Recorded at Dohatsu Shinkan on May 8, 1976, it will now be released on LP for the first time. A Chinatown pop-up event has also been confirmed.

Led by Haruomi Hosono, Tin Pan Alley performed this legendary live show on May 8, 1976, at Dohatsu Shinkan, a long-established Chinese restaurant in Yokohama Chinatown. The recording, which captures the atmosphere of that night in vivid detail, has been revived as a stereo mix half a century later.

For this release, engineer Goh Hotoda has created a new mix and mastering based on the newly discovered stereo master. Please enjoy this wonderful mix, which brings out the atmosphere and presence of the venue at the time, on analog. A live recording from one unforgettable night, still shining after 50 years, is finally being released on LP.

“Lonely Man's Dream” by V.A., released as an LP on Forager, brings together a curated selection whose main unifying element is less a single style than a sustained mood. The compilation presents itself with a restrained, almost dreamlike aesthetic: songs defined by gentle melodies, calm arrangements, and a subtly analog-sounding production. The result is an overall sound that shifts between introspection and warm nostalgia.

Here Forager brings its established touch as a collector and rediscoverer; according to the label, it works closely with artists and their estates to make rare recordings accessible in a respectful way. The result is a record that relies less on showmanship than on the power of voice and song—intimate accompaniments, smooth guitars, understated keyboard lines, and subtle rhythmic patterns form the foundation.

This compilation is suited to listeners who are looking for nuanced, melancholic music off the beaten path. The LP places emphasis on careful selection and atmospheric coherence; it documents a spectrum of musical nuances that appeals both to collectors and newcomers who are interested in historical subtleties and carefully curated discoveries.

For his new album, Irreparable Parables, Andrew Wasylyk felt a strong desire to write a set of songs featuring an element hitherto rare in his work: the human voice. Equally strong was the conviction that he did not want to sing them himself.

The Scottish multi-instrumentalist and composer set about assembling a group of guest singers, sending out the songs to wherever they were in the world. The vocals were recorded remotely and then, like migrating birds, winged their way back to Scotland. The result is an album of great beauty which, perhaps preeminently in Wasylyk’s work, expresses the vulnerability and resilience of the human spirit.

Six singers appear on the record, represented by six songbirds illustrated on the sleeve by Clay Pipe Music’s Frances Castle. The cuckoo is a nod to Belle and Sebastian’s 2004 single ‘I’m A Cuckoo’, that band’s Stuart Murdoch being the first voice you hear on the new album. When the vocal for ‘Private Symphony #2’ arrived, says Wasylyk, “it was everything that I was looking for and more. But this is Stuart Murdoch. Of course he’s going to make something incredibly beautiful and thoughtful.”

The song lyrics were, for the most part, written by the singers. The music is Wasylyk’s creation. He navigates a sound world that lies somewhere beyond the borders of classical and jazz, ambient and abstract. It is difficult to describe, but easy to understand, which is to say to feel. That is the way Wasylyk’s work is experienced: as a feeling. It takes you back to childhood, perhaps, to feelings of comfort and safety, or to memories of walks at sunrise and sunset, or to the way a shadow falls on a particular field in a particular place at a particular time in your life. This is consoling music. That is why, though pretty, it is not merely pretty. These are songs to shore up the soul.

Wasylyk writes in a room, in his native Dundee, full of “half broken” instruments. He picks these up, plays a little, seeking an idea, a feeling, a door that lies ajar. The musical palette of Irreparable Parables includes brass and woodwind, a six-piece string section, guitar, bass, drums, vibraphone, Mellotron, Fender Rhodes, tape loops, synthesisers and percussion. The strings were arranged by the cellist Pete Harvey, a long-term collaborator.

Among the other guest vocalists are Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals, Saya Ueno from Japan’s Tenniscoats and Peter Brewis from Field Music. Wasylyk himself takes the lead vocal on the title track, though a throat infection and touch of pitch-shifting have altered his singing in a way that even he, having fallen out of love with his own voice, finds acceptable.

The heart of the record can, arguably, be found in two tracks, ‘Love Is A Life That Lasts Forever’ and ‘Spectators In The Absence of God’, sung respectively by Molly Linen and Kathryn Joseph. The former, bright with trumpets, was inspired by the writing of Derek Jarman. “I was feeling deeply upset about the world and wanted to try and write some- thing that was obviously hopeful,” Wasylyk says.

‘Spectators …’ offers an emotional counterpoint. It is an “apocalyptic hymn” that seems to grapple with watching human suffering from afar, too distant to be at physical risk, but experiencing the psychological wounding, and feelings of helplessness, even complicity, that come with constant awareness of other people’s pain. “Kathryn’s a pal, I love her dearly, and she’s a brilliant artist who really feels what she writes,” Wasylyk says. “The cracked tenderness of her voice is spellbinding.”

The album closes with an instrumental piece, ‘Soul Enters The Ocean Sun Climbs Out Of The Sea’, all piano and strings, that offers a sense of resolution and ascension. A good moment, too, for Wasylyk to reflect upon the artistic companionship that he enjoyed while making this record – the songbirds that answered his call: “These humans are incredible at what they do. I’m deeply grateful and feel so lucky. It blows my mind.”

The "Teodros Makonnen With His Organ" double LP by Teodros Makonnen is released on Muzikawi and marks the first official reissue of this work. The recordings have been carefully restored and remastered and are now available as a gatefold double LP that reproduces the original cover art; the set includes extensive liner notes in English and Amharic as well as previously unpublished photographs from the archive of Teferi “Bibisha” Mengesha.

Musically, the record documents an early, bold use of electronic means in Ethiopian music. The tracks originally existed only on cassette and were recorded live in a single take on a Yamaha dual keyboard in the apartment of a Saudi Arabian diplomat in Addis Ababa; the result blends traditional melodies with atmospheric drum-machine patterns and hypnotic organ synthesizers. This experimental approach makes the album a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s early digital sound language.

Teodros Makonnen appears here as keyboardist, arranger, and sound designer; his trajectory spans formal training at the Yared School of Music to long-standing engagements with bands such as Dahlak and the Shebele Ensemble. His role as a pioneer of electronic sequencing in Addis Ababa and his collaborations with major figures like Mulatu Astatke, Aster Aweke, and Mahmoud Ahmed define his profile and explain the special status of this album within the history of Ethiopian music.

The compilation "Skyrager Presents Coconut Dreams Volume One" has been released on Mr Bongo as a gatefold double LP. Collector, producer, and DJ Skyrager, known as Danny McLewin (one half of Psychemagik), has curated a soundtrack-like selection that functions as an imaginary tropical retreat. The compilation draws on carefully chosen tracks, some familiar and some rediscovered, which in sequence create a calm, dreamlike atmosphere.

Musically, the compilation moves between sun-drenched folk idyll, dreamy soul, astral ambient textures, and smooth AOR. Tracks like The Carmets’ “Silver Moon Beach” and Angela Bofill’s “Under The Moon And Over The Sky” sit alongside Keiko Nosaka & George Murasaki with koto-infused prog rock, Fred Bryan & The All Stars’ politically charged soul, and O’Donel Levy’s warm guitar work. Vinyl-exclusive tracks and the breadth of arrangements underline the curatorial signature and open up space for unexpected sonic encounters.

The sequencing emphasizes a fluid transition from organic rhythms to ethereal synth layers and delicate horn arrangements, allowing the record to function as a continuous journey. As a Mr Bongo release, the compilation also documents meticulous archival work and Skyrager’s keen ear for gems beyond the mainstream.

YĪN YĪN, the highly touted Dutch quartet from Maastricht, returns with a sonically expansive third album Mount Matsu. Recorded collectively in their own studio in the Belgian countryside, the album is a kaleidoscope of sounds and influences, occupying a no man's land between Khruangbin and Kraftwerk, surf music and Southeast Asian psychedelia, Stax soul and mutant 80s disco, City pop and Japanese instrumental folk (sōkyoku). Mount Matsu sees YĪN YĪN at their most mature and adventurous stage yet. Infectious pentatonic melodicism calling for multiple rewinds.

The "Paradise Metal" LP by Fr. Dionysios Tabakis is released on Heat Crimes in collaboration with Elhellel and gathers an unusual home recording that fuses sacred chants with droning guitar landscapes. The record adheres to a slow, heavy rhythm that reads less as a genre exercise than as a continuation of Byzantine practice in a new guise, conveying a sense of stone walls and unceasing prayer.

Tabakis works within Byzantine logic: scales, intervals, and the relationships between notes govern the structure. Accompanied by instruments such as qanun, oud, cümbüş, ney, zurna, Politiki and Pontic lyra, kabak kemane, and yali tanbur, expansive, meditative sound fields emerge. On two pieces, the breathless presence of a perfectly tuned fretless electric guitar (perdesiz) dominates, allowing for moria subtleties and shaping tones in intervals that Western tuning had long excluded.

On two tracks, Evgenia Symela Armeni sings in the psaltic tradition, including the Pontic hymn "Χαίρε Παρθένε Σουμελά" and the liturgical "Ρόδον Ψυχής", both clearly recognizable as devotional insertions within the drone stream. Tabakis, a priest at the Panagitsa in Nafplio, also writes books such as Into the Abyss with a View of Paradise and The Mad Forerunner; his themes link ascetic silence with contemporary sensibilities. This release marks the first physical appearance by this composer.

A gift to the overthinkers and overworked. Those who are over-concerned and always preoccupied. This is an invitation to hang up the bootstraps, take a load off, and visit a place in the mind where the sun is shining, the breeze is soft and the waves lap softly at your feet. Vacation From My Mind is a sonic realignment of melancholic soul, breezy soft rock, & mellow jazz-funk. This album is a thoughtfully curated collection of 12 rare and obscure tracks from 1973 to 1981. From Jeanette Baker’s hypnotic 70’s soul title track “Vacation From My Mind” to the Latin rhythms of David Buckland’s jazz-funk “Celia”, this compilation was lovingly crafted to ease the stresses and worries of modern life. The Care Package’s song “The Storm” is a larger-than-life production of dreamy harmonies not often found on privately released 45s. Utopia’s “Lejos De Mi” is a slow-burning slice of Bolivian psych that will have you searching for similar sounds. Whatever your preference, we hope that this album will give you a vacation from your mind.

If you were to ask for a defining Habibi Funk track, there are a few that come to mind: from Fadoul’s “Sid Redad,” Dalton’s “Soul Brother” to Ahmed Malek’s “Omar Gatlato.” However, none are as widely connected with us at this point as Hamid Al Shaeri’s “Ayonha.” We heard the track for the first time when we were working on selecting tracks for your first compilation and we instantly loved it. We obviously had heard of Hamid El Shaeri’s music before, but only material from his Al Jeel phase when he was already the full-blown superstar he is now. Listening to his releases from the early 1980’s opened a whole new door for us. At the time, Hamid had just left Libya to pursue his career in Egypt via a detour in London, where he recorded his first album.

Hamid’s distinct sound of the sound is quintessentially reliant on heavy synths and so it was particularly important to purchase these synths in a timely manner. “Whenever a new one [synthesizer] would come out, we would have to buy it immediately, otherwise someone else would get their hands on that sound.” London also played an important role for Hamid as a musical epicenter. He fondly reminisces about the many live shows he attended there, including some of the biggest international musicians like Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson.

After returning to Cairo where he also recorded his following albums, he connected with Slam! for the release of his debut, laying the foundation of a collaboration that lasted for 5 albums.

Brannten Schnüre is an experimental dark folk group out of Würzburg, Germany. Christian Schoppik composed and played all the music, Katie Rich whispers, recites and sings. Together they make astoundingly beautiful folk with a rich instrumentation leaning towards the atonal spectrum. Instrumental wanderings stand alongside Nico-esque poetry tales. Christian plays the accordeon and in some songs guitar and flute. Inspired by hierophants like Novy Svet and David Jackman, solemn song fragments (a lot of old Greek rembetiko recordings) are modified and looped, with additional instruments and voices being integrated later on. His music has been described as "surreal folk collage" and "German hauntology".

'Like the sharpshooting carnival contestant who knows that the winning practice isn’t to aim for the red star itself, but rather to shoot out a perimeter around the star and thus remove it, Old Saw have historically dealt with forms by tracing their boundaries rather than going for the target outright. If the first three records hinted at but never touched song-shaped forms, The Wringing Cloth makes at least glancing contact while retaining the layered haze and drawl that threads their sound together.
'Contrary to the often-used ambient tag, Old Saw shows up here in a markedly active and sculpted form — manipulating, unwinding, and pivoting with a strange and warped precision. What has always been uncanny about this music is that it arrives in a state at once familiar and obscured, like a memory weighed down with sensory information but no identifying details to place it.
'The Wringing Cloth walks off further into that geographical dream without time or language until it’s just a speck of light.'

Tunis Hotel Stereo
A compilation of Tunisian rock, funk, disco and reggae, 1977–1984
Compiled by Cheb Mimo · Shakshouka Records

In the years after independence, Tunisia made an unlikely bet: tourism. Beach resorts rose along the coast, each one trying to outshine the next, and each one needing a band to entertain their guests. A whole generation of musicians grew up on those hotel stages - sharing bills with James Brown, Claude François and the Mingus Dynasty - and what came out of it was a small revolution. Funk played on Tunisian instruments. Disco with an oud in it. Reggae carried back from the island of Kerkennah. A "Third Language" the press didn't quite know what to do with.

Tunis Hotel Stereo gathers nine of those records. Most of them were pressed in tiny quantities, sold to tourists as souvenirs, censored before reaching the radio, or quietly slipped onto a 45 between two hotel sets. Some of these artists filled the Carthage amphitheatre. Some topped the Maghreb hit-parades. Most have been waiting, for forty years, for someone to play their music again.

This compilation is the result of years of work - collating memories, hunting down records, sitting with the artists who made them, and with the people who once danced to them. It is the third release on Shakshouka Records, and the first compilation of Tunisian music ever curated by Tunisians, in Tunisia.
Side A
The mysterious Les 4 Dés, who turned the national anthem into psychedelic pop on Ya Tounes - and then nearly vanished. Peace Band, hard rockers turned hotel professionals, recording as Omnya at Hammamet's legendary Topkapi club. Ridha Zalila, the eternal shape-shifter, in a rare instrumental of Tiou Tiou Tiou. And Sadok Gharbi's Noujoum - pulled from his sabotaged, near-lost masterpiece Souar.

Side B
Carthago, the impossible big band that married the elite of Tunisian jazz-rock with the stars of tourist entertainment, with the original Dhikrayet. Khaled Mellef, one of the great UFOs of his generation, with Wait Till the Morning Dew, recorded in the Netherlands. Marhaba Band's Baba Bahri, originally pressed only for hotel guests and now a cult artefact. Corniche Band's Dance, cut in Milan during a technical stop on a cruise ship. And Jomaa Bouzrara, the "Bob Marley of the Maghreb," with Now That, drawn from his landmark 1983 debut Sunset.

These weren't rebels without a cause. They were musicians who understood that modernity and heritage are not opposites - that a Tunisian could play funk and still be deeply, irreducibly Tunisian. They drew from every direction at once, and built something that belonged to none of those worlds entirely, and to all of them at the same time.

This compilation is one small act of remembering. The music does the rest.

First time vinyl release captures legendary singer-songwriter Blaze Foley's earliest recordings. Simple, straightforward and strong, Sittin' By The Road contains 12 tracks recorded during Blaze's `tree house' days in Georgia. The tracks featured here were recorded in the mid-1970s on Blaze's home reel-to-reel machine he carried with him on his travels between Texas and rural Georgia. These songs showcase Blaze's talent in early form. The album includes several of Blaze's songs now considered classics such as Cold, Cold World; Election Day; Clay Pigeons & If I Could Only Fly. The album also boasts three Foley songs that do not appear on any other recordings; The Way You Smile, Fat Boy, and the title track. At the time of Blaze's tragic murder in 1989 he was little known outside of Austin's renegade songwriter circles. He is now revered among the pantheon of Texas' great songwriters. Townes Van Zant and Lucinda Willliams both penned moving tributes to Blaze. His songs have been covered by John Prine, Merle Haggard, Lyle Lovett, Billy Strings, and Willie Nelson.

Evergreen In Your Mind, the new and third album from Norwegian singer-songwriter Juni Habel, exists in two worlds at the same time. Songs were recorded in quiet corners of her home, on the piano in the school where she works, and it uses the physical world around her to provide percussion. It also takes place, as she herself attests, within a dream; an imagined place in which her desire for oneness with each other and the world around us is finally realised.
Evergreen In Your Mind was recorded with co-producer Stian Skaaden, it’s Habel’s first album in three-years, following the breakthrough success of 2023’s Carvings LP. Formed of eleven new recordings, the songs here remain delicate, Habel’s voice playing an elegant lead role – but there are fluctuations too.
These small shifts in Habel’s sound result in a notable stride forward. More focus went into the groove of these songs. Playfulness was embraced and, perhaps most importantly, patience played a fundamental role in shaping the album with time and care given to every element of these songs. “We always aim to capture effortlessness - but the way of getting there is anything but effortless,” Habel reveals.
This extra time that was given to the project gave Juni the space to nurture her creativity. She would read and listen to music, hike into the hills, place herself within nature and seek out stillness. Not as a deviation from her work but as a fundamental part of the process. It’s a search for connection, and it’s a recurring theme across Evergreen In Your Mind; the polarity between stillness and passion, also our resistance to these desires, and the things we want to live and experience.
The album’s title-track and fist single feels indicative of this narrative. A gorgeous, delicate folk song, it finds Habel out in the woods, hiding from real life, caught in the space between the natural world and the pull of modernity. “It’s nostalgic. It’s about looking back and realizing things will be different,” Habel says. “Its about visualizing something beautiful in your head that you keep clinging onto.”
The album cover for Evergreen In Your Mind also adds shimmer. A striking photograph of Juni among the mountains, it was taken on a day trip to Rondane, a five-hour drive each way from her home. Habel explains. “It was awe-inspiring to drive all the way up into the high mountains, with its wide plains and intense colours. For an album with music that at times likes to hide itself, I think it fitted nicely with such an epic, grand, and powerful landscape.”
"Fans of Nick Drake, Karen Dalton and Neil Young will find much to enjoy in this musical equivalent of an evening spent alone by the fireside.” The Times

"My career has been a lesson in patience," says Annahstasia, having cultivated her musical language between blazes of intimacy and independence across different lives, locations, and iterations, loves lost and gained, expectations evaded and recreated. The rising troubadour's proximity to love for and from others, in society at large, and deeply within herself guides the spirit of her soulful, poetic folk songcraft. Love is the elemental constant, alongside her distinctly resonant voice, shading the singer-songwriter's music since her earliest self-taught recordings, back when a 17-year-old Annahstasia Enuke was discovered and propelled into the pressures of an industry that nearly stifled her greatest strengths. Artistic resilience, gratitude, and dedication to process have yielded Tether, Annahstasia's full-length debut on art-forward indie label drink sum wtr, a collection of beaming torch songs, orchestral hymns, and astral anthems that feel lived-in, drawn from the human experience and the spectrum of love.Annahstasia assembled the pieces of Tether slowly and with deep intention; she's carried these songs with her on the road, sang them for friends and strangers, and evolved them over time alongside her personal revelations. "The song is written, and then I have to live with it and see if I really believe what I'm saying," she explains. She brought material to sessions at the storied Valentine Studios in Los Angeles, joined by producers Jason Lader (ANOHNI and the Johnsons, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey), Andrew Lappin (Cassandra Jenkins, L'Rain, Luna Li), Aaron Liao (Liv.e, Moses Sumney, Raveena) and a range of accomplished musicians, including featured guests aja monet and Obongjayar. The recording became instinctual, done only in live takes to capture the feeling of the room, the community of the music. The sequencing was just as essential; she arrived at a flow with shifting energies and poignant arcs. The instrumentation swells, at times understated and others supremely lush, and through each arran...

The meaning, importance, and heart of this album is best described in the artist's own words."This album to me is all the trials we face day-in and day out and I wrote all the stories on it hoping someone, somewhere might relate or some kid might pick up an instrument and replicate it in an effort to be an artist. Some songs are sad, some are happy, some are hopeful and some are hopeless, all of them mean something different to me and I pray they mean something to someone else. American Heartbreak is my effort at trying to explain what being a 26 year old man in America is like. There's love, loss, revelry, resentment, and forgiveness all wrapped into one piece of work."

Hailing from the seaside communities surrounding Enoshima, a small island located 50 km southwest of Tokyo, Maya Ongaku is a ragtag collective of local musicians whose brand of earthy psychedelia transcends widely beyond the roots of their inner souls. The name derives not from any kind of ancient civilization, but rather a neologism defined as the imagined view outside one’s field of vision. The band—currently a trio of Tsutomu Sonoda, Ryota Takano, and Shoei Ikeda—finds sanctuary at the Ace General Store, a beachy vintage shop and salon-like space just hidden from sight from the bustling, touristy riverside Subana Street. Between discussions on music and art, curating the vinyl section and manning the register, and chatting up with locals young and old, the members find time to jam and record their spontaneous ideas in the studio tucked away in the back. It’s in this unlikely setting where Maya Ongaku finds its origins, the culmination of what Sonoda describes as 自然発生 (shizen hassei), meaning spontaneous generation, or the supposed production of living organisms from nonliving matter.

Approach to Anima, the group’s debut album released on Guruguru Brain, finds Maya Ongaku building a foundational groove while tapping into their innermost psyche. Sonoda’s malleable guitar and vocals, Takano’s sinuous bass lines, Ikeda’s floating woodwinds, and a sprinkling of delicate percussion—all coalesce into an aural experience that’s assertive yet abstract, calm but unsettling. The slow building, sax-laden “Approach” serves as an introduction to Maya Ongaku’s world, while the appropriately-named “Water Dream” floats its way toward the gentle finale of “Pillow Song.” It’s a concise distillation of their many interests and influences, from Neo-Dada and Fluxus, to where contemporary art intersects with the development of modern recording technology in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

As the title suggests, Approach to Anima is not intended to be a terminus; it’s merely the beginning of an exploration. The three childhood friends that comprise Maya Ongaku are always looking beyond the confines of the idyllic but rapidly gentrifying enclave of their beloved Enoshima. Feeding off of the energy that still radiates from the triumphant, decade-long journey of their label bosses’ band Kikagaku Moyo, who rose to global prominence from scrappy beginnings busking on the streets of Takadanobaba, they hope to go wherever inspiration takes them, to anywhere around the globe where their music can find a home.

Ultimately, Maya Ongaku’s uninhibited world-building will make it possible for us to see the unseen, expand the possibilities of the naked eye—all through the unbridled vibrancy of their music.

William Myers (artist for Robert Altman’s Nashville, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson’s Waylon & Willie album, and LP covers for the Charlie Daniels Band) Description: The horse still bucks, the band still funks, and well…the fire still burns.

That’s right—Country Funk is back.

In the summer of 2012, a new sound blew in from the dusty desert. It was a sound difficult to pin down, to codify; a sound that, like some wild horse, resisted one’s grasp. But this was no trend, no flash-in-the-pan movement, no shotgun marriage of styles, no ma’am. This sound went back decades, back to the latter half of the 1960s and early 1970s when adventurous artists started to blend country hoedown harmony with the elation of gospel, the sexual thrust of the blues and a touch of inner-city grit. This was a new sound with a simple name: Country Funk.

Country Funk 1969-1975, first released in 2012 and co-produced by Zach Cowie, Patrick McCarthy and Matt Sullivan, brought together a disparate group of artists that were neither bound by geography nor a shared ideology, but connected through the simple feel of their songs. Country Funk is alternatively playful and melancholic, slow jammin’ and booty-shakin’. It’s a sound both studio slick and barroom raw, as evident in the artists featured on Volume I: Johnny Adams, Mac Davis, Dale Hawkins, Tony Joe White, Bobbie Gentry, Larry Jon Wilson, and many others. Just two years later, we chased Volume I with a new collection of songs for Country Funk 1967-1974 (lita 116, 2014). Volume II didn’t let up, dealing out all the loose-talking and lap-steel twangin’ one could handle. Heavy hitters like Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton and J.J. Cale shared barstools with the lesser-known voices of Bill Wilson, Donnie Fritts and Thomas Jefferson Kaye.

With Country Funk Volume III 1975-1982 (lita 194) we’re here to say there’s more funk left in the trunk yet. This time around, the jeans are tighter, the hair is bigger and the disco ball spins along to a country-synth beat. Produced and compiled by Jason Morgan (Bay Area DJ/collector) and Patrick McCarthy (co-producer/compiler of Volume I & II), the tracklist features regulars Dolly Parton, J.J. Cale, Larry Jon Wilson and Tony Joe White (whose track is released here for the first time) alongside new faces like Steven Soles, Gary & Sandy, Conway Twitty, Travis Wammack, Billy Swan, Rob Galbraith, Brian Hyland, and so many more. As the 1970s began to wane and the 1980s approached, the Country Funk pallet expanded to include disco beats, heavy Moog synth bass lines and more clavinet than you could shake a stick at. Volume III shows artists continuing to buck traditional country tropes and production while embracing modern soul, disco, and coked-up 80s synth-pop. This is the true soundtrack of the Urban Cowboy. Saddle up, partners.

Nominated for a Grammy!

Following their hotly tipped 2018 debut album “On” – Altın Gün returns with an exhilarating second album. “Gece” firmly establishes the band as essential interpreters of the Anatolian rock and folk legacy and as a leading voice in the emergent global psych-rock scene. Explosive, funky and transcendent.

The world is rarely what it seems. A quick glance doesn’t always reveal the full truth. To find that, you need to burrow deeper. Listen to Altın Gün, for example: they sound utterly Turkish, but only one of the Netherlands based band’s six members was actually born there. And while their new album, Gece, is absolutely electric, filled with funk-like grooves and explosive psychedelic textures, what they play – by their own estimation – is folk music.

The recordings that the sisters Elia and Elizabeth Fleta made, hand in hand with music arranger Jimmy Salcedo in the early seventies in their native Colombia, remained hidden like lost pearls in the undervalued musical pop history of Latin America until today. Their concise and natural mix of styles sways between soft-pop with a touch of tropical-pastoral funk, singer-songwriter sweetened by the subtle perfume of Caribbean music and the psychedelia of a world in the midst of discovering all the possibilities offered by the recording studio. These elements blended graciously and fortuitously, brimming with freshness, in a perfect partnership of sharp melodies with lyrics inspired by a genuine juvenile curiosity about life's mysteries, love and nature in their simplest forms.

The 7" “Savana Selvaggia” by Giuliano Sorgini is released on Four Flies and brings together two previously unreleased compositions from the composer’s archives: “I misteri del mondo” on side A and “Arabian Safari” on side B. The single presents itself as a brief, focused statement, offering two cinematic miniatures that reveal Sorgini’s library aesthetic from a new, almost unexplored angle.

Musically, the record links African imagery with Arabic‑tinged melodies and cosmic pulsations. Analog electronics, Solina and Minimoog colors, modular circuits, as well as pulsing synth sequences and programmed electronic drums are woven into dense soundscapes; the arrangements rely on tense, floating melodies and striking sequenced figures. Within this blend, the composer’s distinctive character comes to the fore: crafted, experimental, and at the same time melodic.

The two tracks are regarded as rediscovered treasures from Sorgini’s archive and were created entirely by him at Cat & Fox Studio in Rome. As short, atmospheric journeys, they work both as an addition to his well‑known soundtrack work and as standalone listening pieces that further expand Giuliano Sorgini’s creative range and reaffirm his presence in the contemporary rediscovery of Italian library music.

Released on Good Morning Tapes, the LP “Heavenly Hills” by Saphileaum brings together five tracks that shift between spherical ambient music, Balearic‑tinged melodies, and grooves shot through with folkloric elements. Saphileaum wrote and produced the recordings himself; mastering was handled by Krikor Kouchian, and the cover painting is by Gilbert Williams (used with permission). The record emphasizes expansive, orchestral‑sounding string textures and airy keyboard arrangements, while percussion gently propels the pieces and grounds the pulse somewhere between chill‑out and a restrained folk sensibility.

The tracks unfold self‑contained narrative motifs: from the measured opener to the eponymous “Heavenly Hills,” whose melodic contours blend Balearic elements with a touch of Black Sea aesthetic. Saphileaum builds bridges to nostalgic electronics without merely quoting influences like Boards of Canada and Shackleton; instead, these reference points are translated into his own sonic language, shaped by his Georgian roots. Personal dedications—such as to his grandfather Temur Tsiklauri and to his homeland Georgia—lend the album additional points of connection.

For listeners seeking something between ambient spaciousness and organic instrumentation, this Good Morning Tapes release offers a cohesive, carefully arranged body of work. The LP documents another step in Saphileaum’s decade‑long output and showcases his ability to transform mystical imagery into concise, finely structured formats.

With undeniable cultural gravity, the team of Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan join luminaries such as Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, Randy Newman, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazlewood, Brian Wilson and Laura Nyro in Ace Records’ long-running series of multi-artist compilations celebrating the great American songwriters of the modern era. Hundreds of artists from all walks of music have recorded songs from Waits and Brennan’s matchless catalogue, 19 of the finest of which comprise this hand-picked selection, including many chosen by the songwriters themselves. Few artists have remapped the terrain of popular music, and culture at large, like Tom Waits. Over the course of five decades, he has forged a singular aesthetic that defies genre and turns the marginal into myth. His work is neither fully inside nor outside the mainstream tradition but moves restlessly between them, drawing from vaudeville, blues, jazz, folk, theatre – and just about anything else that catches his ear – to craft something wholly his own. His influence reverberates not just through the underground and avant-garde, but across theatre, film, literature, and visual art. With his long-time creative partner and wife Kathleen Brennan, he has dismantled and reassembled the idea of song itself, crafting works that exist as both raw expression and high art. This collection honours not only the extraordinary versatility of Waits and Brennan’s songwriting, but the importance of an artist who continues to haunt and inspire from the edges inward. Ace’s selection is sequenced chronologically by song, opening with Bruce Springsteen’s live recording of ‘Jersey Girl’, Waits’ ode to Brennan from 1980’s Heartattack And Vine, and closing with folk matriarch Joan Baez’s version of Waits and Brennan’s anti-war ‘Day After Tomorrow’ from Waits’ more recent Real Gone. “All the great things that came out of New Jersey don’t hold a candle to Kathleen Brennan, at least not in Tom’s eyes,” Bob Dylan said on his Theme Time Radio Hour show. “She rescued me,” reflected Waits in an interview for The Guardian. “Maybe I rescued her too, that’s often how it works. Upshot is that we both got into the same leaky boat. Everybody knows she’s the brains behind Pa, as Dylan might have said. I’m just the figurehead. She’s the one who’s steering the ship.” In addition to “steering the ship”, Brennan became Waits’ songwriting partner. The couple’s first-released joint composition, ‘Hang Down Your Head’ from Rain Dogs, is heard here in a raunchy rendition by country-blues heroine Lucinda Williams. Elsewhere, performers from the worlds of jazz, blues, gospel, soul and rock put their own stamps on great songs with which Waits devotees will be familiar on Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, Franks Wild Years, Big Time, Bone Machine, Mule Variations, Real Gone and Orphans. Pride of place – because it’s a particular favourite of Waits and proved incredibly challenging to license – goes to the heart-wrenching recording of ‘Down There By The Train’ from Johnny Cash’s late-life masterpiece American Recordings. Made with the blessing, approval and involvement of Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan, Where The Willow And The Dogwood Grow is an essential collection for any fan of this remarkable artist’s unique work.

Born from childhood memories of Ford F150 rides and his mother’s traveling karaoke business, Andrew Sa’s debut album, American Rough, represents the culmination of a lifelong obsession with the power of the human voice. After honing his craft in Chicago’s independent music scene and the campy, theatrical world of the Cosmic Country Showcase, Sa collaborated with producer H.C. McEntire to bridge the gap between mid-century country-pop and contemporary indie-folk. The record is a sonic tapestry woven with pedal steel, jaunty horns, and Sa’s signature "siren-like" croon, drawing inspiration from titans like Patsy Cline and Roy Orbison while being deeply informed by the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud and Ocean Vuong.

More than just a genre exercise, American Rough serves as a cinematic exploration of queer intimacy and the complexities of masculinity. Sa courageously subverts the heteronormative traditions of country music, reimagining the genre through the lens of gay desire to create a space where hard bodies find each other in the dark and soften. The album invites listeners into a world of vulnerable characters and "mean handsome" figures. By centering beauty and connection, Sa tethers himself to a long-forgotten lineage of men singing about their hearts, offering a vision of manhood that is as gentle as it is resilient.

“Hurriya (We Must Resist)”is a sonic bridge crossing theMare Nostrum, connecting the shores of Naples and Tunisia. At the heart of this fusion is the voice and soul of Tunisian musician Ziad Trabelsi, whose Arab roots intertwine with the psychedelic, Mediterranean sound of Psyché. In this track, Afrobeat and Arabic sonorities meet to create a hypnotic journey, one where Ziad’s oud weaves an evocative groove that gallops like horses in the desert. The song carries the echo of the ancient dominations and cultural exchanges that have shaped Naples—a millennia-old crossroads of civilization—where traces of Arab and North African influences continue to resonate in its streets and, most notably, in its music. The single is available digitally from December 12 and physically, on January 23, as a 7”vinyl. The B-side of the physical release includes an exclusive, extended version of“Hurriya (We Must Resist)”, available only in this format.

Following the release of the first volume of the Koto: Tapestry series, Cinedelic completes the series of 3 with the release of the remaining two valuable albums. 'Tapestry: Koto' is a 3-album series produced by Nippon Columbia in the mid-1970s dedicated to one of the main instruments of Japanese traditional music: Koto. The beauty of the trilogy curated by composer Kiyoshi Yamaya, whose chapters are respectively dedicated to Sea, Hillside and Country, lies in the fact that they are a modern translation of tradition using newer and more avant-garde sound idioms, integrating the koto with jazz musicians. An original mix, a 'crossover’ that allows for the awakening and the consequential spread of traditional music in larger contexts. The extreme accuracy of the marvellous recordings is also remarkable. The performers on this fabulous album are: Toshiko Yonekawa - learned to play the koto at an early age, performing in a public concert as early as 8 years old. For three years, from 1941 to 1944, she won prizes as the best performer in the Japanese Cultural Federation's competition for traditional trios. She also received an award from the Prime Minister. Many other important recognitions followed until she became president of the Reichokai and executive director of the Sankyoku Association. In 1996, she was appointed Living National Treasure. As a koto player, her best-known characteristics are her extreme precision of intonation and rhythm and the unparalleled beauty of her sound. Kiyoshi Yamaya - born March 1932. He attended the Kunitachi College of Music. Between 1956 and 1960, he performed with 'Nobuo Hara and His Sharps & Flats' (clarinet, saxophone, etc.) and was responsible for composition and arrangement. In 1959, he formed the 'Modern Jazz Three Association' with Norio Maeda and Keitaro Miho, which contributed to the improvement of the level of composition and arrangement in Japanese jazz. In 1965, he became conductor of the 'Tokyo Union Orchestra' and received the Japan Record Award's Arrangement Award. His name appears on more than 100 albums. An unmissable session for those seeking new sounds. Original masters licensed by Nippon Columbia for the first ever reissue. Includes OBI and insert.

This fourth album overall, and the first release after moving to the Showboat label, is a conceptual work built from songs born during travels through Mexico, the Bahamas, and New Orleans with his beloved wife Kuro, and recorded in a Los Angeles studio. It lovingly sings of the landscapes of Central and South America, as well as the encounters and farewells experienced along the journey. The warm performances by the members of So Bad Review and steel pan master Robert Greenidge bring a calm, happy, and relaxed mood to the album. From the classic "Gypsy Song," which has continued to be covered by many musicians, to the light Latin touch of the title track "Minami Ryokou," all ten songs shine with an evergreen brilliance.

The "Banks Of The Trinity" LP by Cody Johnson was released on Warner Nashville and brings together 16 songs that place the narrative core of his songwriting front and center. On the album, Johnson openly engages in conversations with his own past, with the title track drawing direct connections to his childhood on the Trinity River and creating a personal starting point for the remaining songs.

Musically, the record moves within the classic country spectrum, carried by warm guitars, distinctive drums, and a clear emphasis on melody and lyrics. The arrangements remain song-oriented; quiet ballads sit alongside more dynamic, stadium-ready moments. The selection of songwriters — including Rodney Clawson, Chris Tompkins, and Josh Kear — underscores the focus on catchy, finely crafted compositions.

The album was produced by Trent Willmon, whose long-standing collaboration with Johnson ensures a cohesive sonic signature. Guest appearances by Luke Combs and Brothers Osborne add well-placed accents and broaden the range without blurring the intimacy of the songs. Overall, "Banks Of The Trinity" presents Cody Johnson as a storyteller with traditional backbone and modern production that consistently pushes his voice and the stories he tells to the forefront.

Light in the Attic Records is proud to present the next installment of the _Nancy Sinatra Archival Series_ with the first ever reissue of the classic 1972 album _Nancy & Lee Again_. Recorded during a 1972 reunion between Nancy and the enigmatic Hazlewood, the album contains some of the pair’s most enduring and ambitious duets including the epic ”Arkansas Coal (Suite),” the sensual “Paris Summer” and the incredibly powerful Dolly Parton-penned “Down From Dover.” Equal parts daring, psychedelic, cinematic, and sweet, _Nancy & Lee Again_ reveals with each track a timeless, natural chemistry between two artists who would remain influential for generations to come.

_Nancy & Lee Again_ is available in a variety of formats, including vinyl, CD, 8-track, and digital. The vinyl LP, pressed at Record Technology, Inc. (rti), is presented in an expanded gatefold jacket and is accompanied by a 20-page booklet, featuring an array of photos from the legendary singer, actress, and activist’s personal collection, as well as in-depth Q&A with Nancy Sinatra, conducted by the reissue’s Grammyâ®-nominated co-producer, Hunter Lea (also available in the CD package). All formats have been beautifully designed by Darryl Norsen of D. Norsen Design, and include two bonus tracks, “Machine Gun Kelly” (first time on vinyl) and the previously unreleased “Think I’m Coming Down.”

In addition to the black vinyl pressing, a selection of colorful variants can be found exclusively at NancySinatra.com, LightInTheAttic.net, independent record stores and select online retailers.

A limited-edition merchandise capsule, including a custom chain stitched denim jacket, embroidered pillow, canvas tote and apparel collaboration with LA-based Midnight Rider will accompany the release at Nancy’s Bootique at *NancySinatra.com*.

Nancy’s impact on fashion, music, and culture will also be celebrated at Modernism Week in Palm Springs this February with three events, including a roundtable discussion featuring Kii Arens (Visual Artist), Alison Martino (Vintage Los Angeles), Hunter Lea (Record Producer), Don Randi (The Wrecking Crew), and Amanda Erlinger (daughter of Nancy Sinatra, and co-author of the book _Nancy Sinatra: One For Your Dreams_), a double decker bus tour featuring audio commentary from Nancy at notable locations, and a Nancy Sinatra Tribute street party on Arenas to close out the week’s festivities.

*more About _nancy & LEE AGAIN_:*

The incongruous, yet glorious, creative partnership between Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood was well underway when the two singular artists reunited to record 1972’s _Nancy & Lee Again_, a follow-up to their bestselling duet debut, _Nancy & Lee_. Nancy, the eldest daughter of Frank Sinatra, had been working with the Oklahoma-born songwriter since 1965, when she topped the pop charts with “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.” Over the next five years, the two artists forged a prolific relationship in the studio, with Hazlewood writing and producing many of Nancy’s solo hits. Soon, the duo found success with a series of duets, including “Sand,” “Summer Wine,” and “Some Velvet Morning” – all of which appeared on their highly-influential 1968 debut.

Not long after the critical acclaim and chart success of Nancy & Lee died down, however, Hazlewood unexpectedly relocated to Sweden, leaving his musical partner in the proverbial dust. America, meanwhile, was in the midst of a cultural shift, as the Vietnam War waged on. By the turn of the decade, the musical landscape had changed significantly. “Trivial music and not profound music became unimportant,” recalls Nancy, speaking to Hunter Lea. “It was a tough time.” And yet, despite the circumstances, the stars somehow aligned for the duo to record some of their most magnificent music together.

Returning to Los Angeles for the project, Hazlewood – who reprised his role as producer – chose to take a new direction with the duo’s sophomore album. Nancy recalls, “It was more dramatic; it was more fun to do, more challenging to do…. It was more grandiose.” For the lush, orchestral arrangements, they collaborated with Larry Muhoberac (an original member of Elvis Presley’s TCB band, whose early ‘70s credits also included Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, and Lalo Schifrin) and Clark Gassman, who had worked on Hazlewood’s 1970 LP, _Cowboy in Sweden_. Backing vocals from brothers John and Tom Bahler, who remain two of the most recorded singers in history, added additional texture to several songs.

The big sound that Nancy describes above is exemplified in the album’s cinematic opener, “Arkansas Coal (Suite).” Clocking in at nearly six minutes long, the dynamic overture tells the tale of an ill-fated coal miner (sung by Hazlewood), while Nancy adjusts her vocals to sing as both the miner’s daughter and his wife. Hazlewood’s knack for vivid, nuanced storytelling shines throughout _Nancy & Lee Again_, particularly in “Paris Summer,” which details the conflict that a married woman faces, as she engages in a passionate affair. Another highlight is the country-inspired hit, “Did You Ever,” which was released as the album’s lead single. After it landed at No.2 on the U.K. pop charts, the song served as an alternate title track in several countries, including LP pressings in the U.K., Germany, and Canada.

One of the most emotionally-charged moments on _Nancy & Lee Again_ is a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Down From Dover.” The heartbreaking tune tells the tale of a pregnant teenager, who has been abandoned by her lover and her family and ultimately gives birth to a stillborn baby. While Parton’s 1970 version was sung from the teenager’s point of view, Hazlewood and Sinatra transformed the country song into a duet. Hazlewood, who offers the man’s side of the story, sings in a notably deeper octave than his signature baritone.

Another poignant selection is “Congratulations,” which describes a soldier coming home from Vietnam. “His face has grown old and his eyes have grown cold/And they tell you of where he has been/Congratulations, you sure made a man out of him,” Hazlewood sings, pointedly. Nancy, who performs as the vet’s wife, argues that the song had a deeper meaning for her duet partner. “Lee started out a hawk, he was an army guy, so he was all for the war in the beginning. We didn’t talk about it, but at some point, he changed radically. ‘Congratulations’ was almost like an apology from him. I don’t want to put words in his mouth, but it was as though he was saying ‘I’m really sorry.’”

The song “Friendship Train” could also be interpreted as an apology of sorts – this time to Nancy. “You've been hurt and I've been hurt/Now we're living pain,” the tune opens. When Hazlewood moved to Sweden without telling his longtime musical partner, Sinatra was understandably upset. “I felt pretty betrayed. I mean, who does that? Who just up and disappears like that? I’ll never understand it,” she reveals. But the uplifting duet – a slice of ‘70s pop perfection – offers reaffirming words of love between friends. “[Lee] felt things very deeply and tended to express his feelings in song instead of in real life,” explains Nancy.

The 10-track album closes with the stripped-down “Got It Together.” Backed by an acoustic guitar, the song is equal parts playful and candid, as the duo has an impromptu, spoken-word conversation about their lives. “I wish that we’d quit getting so old,” laments Nancy, who later shares her wish to have children (she would do so in the next few years). Hazlewood, meanwhile, attempts to remedy his past wrongdoings – this time asking his partner, “Can I go back to Sweden?” With that, Nancy gives her blessing.

This definitive reissue of _Nancy & Lee Again_ also includes two bonus tracks. Both are stylistic departures for the duo – but fit right in with the psychedelic pop of the era. The first one, “Think I’m Coming Down,” is a harmony-filled reflection on a toxic relationship. “I think that was one of [Lee’s] drug things. I don’t mean that he used drugs; I mean that he was trying to be part of that culture. Trying to be hip,” explains Nancy, who delivers an emotive vocal performance on the solo track. Also included is “Machine Gun Kelly,” penned by a staple of the 70s singer-songwriter movement, Danny Kortchmar (James Taylor, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt). Recorded several months after the release of the album, the song found Nancy reuniting with Billy Strange, who arranged many of her solo albums, as well as Nancy & Lee. Sinatra and Hazlewood first performed “Machine Gun Kelly” during their residency at Las Vegas’ Riviera Hotel in February 1972 (later released as a concert documentary on Swedish television). While the recording has long remained a career favorite of Nancy’s, it would be decades before it was officially released.

_Nancy & Lee Again_ remains a creative high point in the careers of Sinatra and Hazlewood and, upon its release, garnered rave reviews from Billboard, _Record World_, and _Cash Box_, among others. Yet, _Nancy & Lee Again_ never received the spotlight it so utterly deserved. “We didn’t have label support at all in those days,” recalls Nancy. “Without the strength of a label, records die. We were old. We were old-fashioned. We were just not what was happening. It’s a very ageist kind of business.” Nevertheless, she adds, “I think it’s a very good album. I think it’s timeless.” Now, after years of being a sought-after rarity, this gem in the Sinatra-Hazlewood canon can finally get its due.

Five decades later, Nancy’s legacy only continues to grow, as new generations discover her impressive catalog (which boasts nearly 20 studio albums – her duets with Hazlewood among them – and dozens of charting singles, including the theme song to the 1967 James Bond film, You Only Live Twice). In 2020, Sinatra was recognized by her peers when “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” was inducted into the Grammy⮠Hall of Fame. That same year, Sinatra partnered with Light in the Attic for *Nancy Sinatra: Start Walkin’ 1965-1976*, a definitive survey of her most prolific period. Lita has also reissued Sinatra’s classic debut, *Boots*, and her iconic, 1968 album with Lee Hazlewood, *Nancy & Lee*. The label looks forward to celebrating Nancy over the coming years with a variety of special releases, exclusive merchandise, and more.

“Yīn Yīn hop and bound along, being whisked up by the pure joy of their experimentation, unafraid to see how far from home it takes them...eccentric, boundary-bashing, genre-melding groove.” – The Line of Best Fit

Funk and disco beats. Electro experimentation. Global retro vibes. A shimmering, cinematic sweep.

The Dutch band YĪN YĪN’s dazzling second album dives even deeper into dance floor propulsion and space travel atmospherics than their lauded debut The Rabbit that Hunts Tigers (2019).

While there is an expanded sonic richness on the new album as samples, drum computers and otherworldly synthesizers intertwine with the band’s taut playing, more than anything The Age of Aquarius is a simple, direct appeal to dance. The record’s groove manifesto can be put down to YĪN YĪN’s experiences on the road, where the positive energies picked up from their audiences fed back into a sound that increasingly “kept people moving.”

‘Rejoice’ is the classic collaboration between Tony Allen, the legendary drummer and co-founder of Afrobeat, and Hugh Masekela, the master trumpet player of South African jazz. The record, released to great acclaim in March 2020, became the first posthumous release from Masekela, and the last release from Allen, who sadly passed away a month later. For this Special Edition, World Circuit have gone back to the original 2010 mixes and added previously unheard parts from the 2019 sessions to create 8 reimagined bonus mixes. The CD and LP releases also feature a booklet with sleeve notes and photos. Having first met in the 70s thanks to their respective close associations with Fela Kuti, the two world-renowned musicians talked for decades about making an album together. When, in 2010, their touring schedules coincided in the UK, the moment presented itself and producer Nick Gold took the opportunity to record their encounter. The unfinished sessions, consisting of all original compositions by the pair, lay in archive until after Masekela passed away in 2018. With renewed resolution, Tony Allen and Nick Gold, with the blessing and participation of Hugh Masekela’s estate, unearthed the original tapes and finished recording the album in summer 2019 at the same London studio where the original sessions had taken place. ‘Rejoice’ can be seen as the long overdue confluence of two mighty African musical rivers – a union of two free-flowing souls for whom borders, whether physical or stylistic, are things to pass through or ignore completely. According to Allen, the album deals in “a kind of South African-Nigerian swing-jazz stew”, with its roots firmly in Afrobeat. Allen and Masekela are accompanied on the record by a new generation of well-respected jazz musicians including Tom Herbert (Acoustic Ladyland / The Invisible), Joe Armon-Jones (Ezra Collective), Mutale Chashi (Kokoroko) and Steve Williamson.

Back in October, Artist To Watch alum Mdou Moctar returned with a new song called “Chismiten.” The song accompanied news that the virtuosic Tuareg guitarist had signed to Matador, with a promise of a new album on the way. Today Moctar’s back with the official announcement: That new album is called Afrique Victime, and it’s out in May. Turns out “Chismiten” is the album’s opener, and along with today’s the announcement Moctar’s shared another new song called “Tala Tannam.” “‘Tala Tannam’ means your tears,” Moctar said in a statement. “It is another love song of which I’m very fond.”

“While the song talks about love, we wanted to show the love between friendships and the love of Niger,” Moctar’s bassist Mikey Coltun added. “The video includes friends and family — in the Tuareg community in villages around Niamey as well as Hausa people from villages in the Dosso region.”

Part of Moctar’s rise to prominence in the West was thanks to his searing, psychedelic style of guitar-playing. Afrique Victime promises more of that.

Like the self-proclaimed “Spiderman” who climbed Chicago’s Sears Tower with no harness, Sufjan Stevens scales dusty prairies, steel factories, and two hundred years of history in the second installment of his 50 State Project, “ILLINOIS”, a 22-track anthematic tone poem to The Prairie State.

An engrossing musical road trip, “Illinois” takes you through ghost towns, grain mills, hospital rooms, and the City of Broad Shoulders, with guest appearances by a poet, a president, a serial murderer, UFOs, Superman, the goat that cursed the Cubs, and Decatur’s famous Chickenmobile. Sufjan weaves variegated musical styles (jazz, funk, pop, folk, and Rodgers and Hammerstein-like flourishes) and the textures of 25 instruments into a tapestry of persons and places famous, infamous, iconic and anonymous. Invoking the muse of poet Carl Sandburg, “Illinois” ushers in trumpets on parade, string quartets, female choruses and ambient piano scales arranged around Stevens’ emerging falsetto.

Released on Batov, the “Tokyo” 7" by Sababa 5 / Yurika Hanashima is a split release that links the band’s instrumental playfulness with Yurika’s clear, Japanese‑tinged voice. The record joins the series of collaborative singles through which Sababa 5 connect traditional Middle Eastern elements with contemporary groove aesthetics.

The title track opens with a grooving guitar riff carried by a springy bassline and distinctive, almost ululating keyboard figures; vocally, Yurika keeps things restrained but adds melodic phrases that give the arrangement a narrative core. The production balances organic instrumentation and contemporary rhythms, making the composition feel both familiar and new.

The B‑side, “Nasnusa,” opens with an extended guitar solo that flows into a groove inspired by Mizrahi motifs; here, Sababa 5’s signature style comes through, weaving folk inflections, psychedelia, and funk into a dense, danceable texture. As a 7" single, the track documents the intersection between regional sound traditions and international pop aesthetics, in the spirit of several releases Batov has been championing.

With the 7" single "Guajira Guantanamera / Guajira" released on Planet Ilunga, Bantou Jazz showcases the next level of its creativity while largely staying true to its style. The choice of title directly references the Cuban guajira tradition and links this popular melodic language with the characteristic soundscape of African dance music. Bantou Jazz draws on familiar elements of rumba congolaise: flowing guitar lines, warmly timbred horn parts, and multi-part call-and-response vocals that carry the melodic core while leaving room for rhythmic subtleties.

Style-wise, the ensemble moves between Latin American harmonies and the physically expressive groove dynamics of the Congo; the arrangements emphasize singable melodies, subtle syncopations, and an elegant balance between vocals and instrumental passages. Lyrically, the tracks draw on pastoral imagery and national references, while the instrumentation makes the transatlantic kinship between guajira and Congolese rumba audible. This 7" thus stands as a striking example of the cultural translation of traditional forms into a modern, dance-oriented vocabulary that is committed to both historical heritage and contemporary performance practice.

“Neon Summer Skin” by Bedouine will be released in June 2026 as an LP on Bedouine Music Ii and brings together a concise, deliberately intimate song concept. The release is accompanied by a digital edition and expanded for the physical format; the LP package includes a 12-inch insert featuring a portrait and the complete song lyrics.

Azniv Korkejian, who performs under the name Bedouine, connects her nomadic background and her experience as a Los Angeles–based singer-songwriter with a nuanced folk approach. The tracks are characterized by lean arrangements, melodic guitar lines, and a restrained, narrative vocal delivery; lyrically, they revolve around memory, longing, and belonging. This blend of traditional songcraft and modern singer-songwriter sensibility defines the album’s style.

Production and sonic character are closely intertwined with the producers involved: the first two tracks were created in collaboration with Jonathan Rado and Azniv Korkejian, with additional production by Gus Seyffert; the remaining pieces were produced by Gus Seyffert and Korkejian. The album was mixed by Gus Seyffert and mastered by Dave Cooley at Elysian Masters. Artwork and photography are by Robert Beatty and Janell Shirtcliff, respectively.

Musically, the record ranges from delicate, piano-led moments like “On My Own” and the contemplative “Long Way To Fall” to songs such as “Canopies” and the title track “Neon Summer Skin,” which combine intimate arrangements with clear, memorable melodies. The LP appeals to listeners who appreciate finely tuned folk with contemporary, lyric-driven depth.

Process And Reality by Gun Outfit appears as a carefully arranged double LP on Upset The Rhythm, bringing together an extensive repertoire of twenty and nineteen tracks, respectively, that oscillate between song-oriented moments and expansive soundscapes. The material combines clear melodies with off-kilter rhythms and intimate vocal passages, allowing the album to unite both the accessible and the experimental sides of the project.

The album was recorded in a focused session on a ranch in Pine Flat, California; the band worked with limited resources and analog equipment, while a nearby forest fire lent the recordings an additional, haunting atmosphere. Instruments such as dulcimer, autoharp, melodica, sitar, and various self-made creations by fellow musician Henry Barnes broaden the sonic palette and reveal a delight in unusual arrangements and collective composition. The contributions of Daniel Swire on drums and Kayla Cohen on bass deserve special mention; in addition, guests such as Chris Cohen and Warren Lee appear.

Gun Outfit remains rooted in its origins in the independent West Coast scene: the songwriting of Dylan Sharp and Carrie Keith links rural biographies with a clear, almost offhand observational acuity. Defining elements include the balance between acoustic intimacy and a loosely assembled, psychedelia-tinged rock approach, as well as a willingness to connect classic song forms with lyrical reflection. For listeners who appreciate subtleties in production and instrumentation, this release offers a wealth of discoveries.

From The Edge is a long-form musical work shaped by the acoustics, history, and atmosphere of Dover.

Conceived by Kent-based composers Richard Bundy and Anna Phoebe, and supported by a host of other musicians and artists, the album sits at the heart of their Dover Unlocked project — a body of work that reimagines and quietly subverts the accepted narrative of this UK coastal border town. At its core is a simple idea: to use music to open up hidden, overlooked historic spaces and let them be heard again. These include sites such as the Grand Shaft - a Napoleonic-era spiral staircase that descends 140 feet through the iconic chalk cliffs - as well as St Edmund’s Chapel, the Maison Dieu, and Fort Burgoyne, built in the 1860s to guard the high ground just north of Dover Castle. The project is rooted in the act of performing within these places. Each space has its own character and resonance, which affects the sound and influences the performance within it. The music itself takes many forms, from the delicate acoustic and electronic textures of the opening passages to the rhythmic intensity of the Sacconi Quartet recorded in St Edmund’s Chapel. Anna Phoebe’s violin weaves through the LP, linking dusty electronic beats and choral voices, while Richard Bundy’s piano adds moments of expressive clarity. Beyond the music, the outside world - like the A20 road - seeps into the recordings, becoming an unseen performer. Jazz drums, uptempo synths, and resonant bass combine to create a world where history and music intertwine. Richard Bundy toured the world for more than 30 years as a musician and Musical Director, collaborating with many well-known artists. He now composes music for film, as well as creating neo classical and ambient works. His credits include the score for The Protagonist, which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Anna Phoebe is a violinist, composer, and broadcaster whose work blends contemporary classical, electronic, and experimental music. She co-hosts the much-loved Radio 4 show Add to Playlist and creates immersive album and score projects that are both raw and cinematic. Her work has featured across Apple TV+, Channel 4, Netflix, ITV and the BBC, and has been championed by BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 3 and Kexp. The Dover Unlocked project became more than live performances, more than the creation of an album, more than a film. Ultimately, it became the unlocking of a town through time - and that town was waiting to be heard.

An improvisational musician, composer and poet, Titi Robin has travelled extensively since the early 1980s – from Brittany to Catalonia, India to Morocco – crafting his own musical aesthetic. Throughout his journey, he has built bridges between his native Anjou, where he still resides, and the Gypsy cultures of many lands. Neither a compilation nor a mere summary, this selection offers a certain perspective on his body of work, which has earned him praises by luminaries like Peter Gabriel or Brian Eno.

Despite his many travels, it would be a mistake to view Titi Robin as an explorer of the "elsewhere". While he plays the guitar, the bouzouq, or the oud, he does not seek to imitate a Gypsy, Syrian, or Greek style; rather, he plays in a voice that is uniquely his own—a syncretism of his personal journey, from his teenage years playing at Moroccan community celebrations to his collaborations with Gypsy musicians from Southeast France and India. In Angers, in the Roseraie neighbourhood, he was immersed in the rhythms of Moroccan chaabi from an early age. Later, he frequented the gypsy neighbourhood of Saint-Jacques in Perpignan. These encounters nourished an aesthetic territory he likes to call ‘Titistan’, which includes Perpignan and Rajasthan. He views Mediterranean culture as "a bridge, a crossroads, a network of long-standing links woven between North and South, East and West." In this selection, you will hear the palmas marking the compas of the Catalan rumba; strings enveloping the melody of the bouzouq, answered at times by the clarinet or the kaval flute popular in the Balkans and Anatolia.

Produced between 1993 and 2011 these songs have been fully remastered and are presented here for the first time on vinyl, with extensive liner notes.

Brace Up! is the first ever studio release from the duo of CHRIS CORSANO (drums) and BILL ORCUTT (guitar). Recorded in Brussels at Les Ateliers Claus by CHRISTOPHE ALBERTIJN on March 19th and 20th, 2018. "Over the past six years or so, drummer Chris Corsano has proven to be one of Bill Orcutt's most reliably flexible collusionists. Regardless of whether Bill is cluster-busting electric guitar strings, weaseling around with cracked electronics, or playing relatively spacious free-rock, Corsano is able to provide the proper base for his aural sculpting. A lot of Orcutt's instrumental work has traditionally felt hermetic even though he's exploring caverns of explosive ecstasy. One often got the impression Bill was operating in the way John Travolta did in the classic 1976 ABC television drama, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. Orcutt's actual interaction with collaborators emerged not from communication so much as pure observation. While he was fully cognizant of his musical surroundings, his reactions to it were walled off. This approach did not encourage sonic dialogue so much as parallel streams of discourse. These streams could interact with each other, but not in particularly standard ways. On Brace Up! , their first ever studio release, this precept has changed considerably. Whether it's a function of emotional familiarity or an intellectual choice I dunno, but there's a whole new kind of duo exchange going down on this record. Bill and Chris are clearly playing off each other's moves throughout the album. And it really raises the level of the music to an all-time high. From the cop car see-saw of 'Poundland Frenzy' to the mutual pummeling of 'Paranoid Time' (possibly a Minutemen tribute?) to the lazychicken- gets-stung-prog of 'She Punched a Hole in the Moon for Me,' the sounds on Brace Up! display a constant flow of ideas and instantaneous conjugation of newly forged verbs. As great as Bill and Chris's previous duo records have been, this one's greater."—Byron Coley

The lost Ngozi Family/Chissy Zebby Tembo album! Only ever test pressed and never commercially released, Now-Again presents the ultimate Zamrock rarity and an essential entry from Zambian guitarist and bandleader Paul Ngozi's catalog. Zamrock was a bona-fide rock scene: on the African continent, only Nigeria can claim one so comprehensive, and Nigeria's was largely catalyzed and funded by subsidiaries of the European major labels. Zamrock was as independent as its newly-named country, formerly known as Northern Rhodesia. Now-Again now issues this never before released full-length which includes an 8 page booklet, filled with rare photos and details on the Ngozi Family's musical journey, for Record Store Day 2026. A1. "Broadly speaking, shredders are the pro wrestlers of music, trafficking in overwrought drama but devoid of soul, the realm of finger-tappers, fretboard lubricators, and those prone to viewing music as a competitive brawl. As such, the axe-slinger of conscience steers clear of shredding behavior, albeit every-so-often dexterously running the neck to tip listeners off that, you know, they 'really know how to play.' But for the typical avant-string consumer, shredding is beyond the pale.

Which brings us to Cyrus Pireh's new Palilalia release Thank You, Guitar, his latest stab at 'transcendental shred electric guitar music.' (Check out 'If I Can Play Fast Enough It Will Turn into Food and Shelter' on Bandcamp for a long-form embodiment of exactly what this means). Pireh, a self-professed anarchist and presumed enemy of music-as-sport, upcycles the 32nd-note neck sprint into a mesmeric boil played and recorded with little intervening electronic trickery other than a Digitech DD5 and mysterious amp modifications.

The end result sounds like Pireh's plugged a quarter-inch jack into each of the listener's eardrums, a quick digital delay ping-ponging across the frontal lobes, the wet and dry signal of his 9-string axe all but indistinguishable. Indeed, Pireh views his maximalist double-handed scrabble as a mirror in which the listener might visualize all manner of details in its rapidly self-propagating tonal and rhythmic tapestry.

The title track, its hairpin turns echoing Fred Frith's 'Hello Music'—another startling LP-opener—establishes this methodology immediately. ('What Are We Doing What Could Be Done', another Bandcamp track, taps this same ecstatic mojo). But far from languishing in razzle dazzle, each song tracks different tangential vectors, some (like 'Free Palestine') employing tape delay to smear the sounds into a muzzy, proto-psychedelic modality, with others stretching longer feedback times into unison lines reminiscent of Eno's all-consuming Revox (albeit less pitchy). But the true mind bender of the record is 'Amen Family', its fret-tapping and string scraping reinventing the venerable amen break as an electrified freak-folk/jungle opus for fingerstyle guitar that has to be heard to be believed.

Ultimately, Thank You, Guitar is a giant step forward in Palilalia's redefinition of the solo guitar record, and one of the first truly novel things I've heard a guitar spit out in quite some time, milking the tension between precision and chaos, never quite veering into one or the other, but maintaining maximum engagement and brimming with action til the end."—Tom Carter

Vinyl LP pressing. 2025 release. The much-anticipated follow-up to LA-based singer-songwriter Natalie Bergman's critically acclaimed 2021 solo debut album 'Mercy'. If you re-envisioned and rebuilt Motown somewhere in the California desert, it might sound something like 'My Home Is Not In This World'. Recorded analog-to-tape and produced by her brother and longtime collaborator Elliot Bergman, the 12-track record shimmers with gospel soul, country-western heartache, and rock 'n' roll grit, all filtered through Natalie's unmistakable voice. Where her critically acclaimed 2021 debut solo album Mercy was steeped in grief and spiritual reckoning, written in the wake of the sudden loss of her father and stepmother, My Home Is Not In This World emerges from new life and rebirth. Natalie gave birth to her son, Arthur, in 2024, and the experience of motherhood has transformed her music into something equally tender and transcendent.

Enchanting and sunny 1969 psych folk by San Francisco teenage sisters Wendy & Bonnie Flower. A cult album that would later inspire bands like Stereolab, with dreamy vocal harmonies as the main attraction, laced with Brazilian splashes and soft-rock strains. Pure timeless psychedelic pop perfection, awash in serenity and haunting reverie floating in the ether above airy soundscapes that convey a sophistication that belies the artists' tender age: 15 and 18. Alongside them are top-notch musicians such as guitarist Larry Carlton, drummer Jim Keltner, bassist Randy Sterling and organists/pianists Mike Melvoin and Mike Lang. Originally produced by Gary McFarland, Gábor Szabó and Cal Tjader.

Veneer made an indelible mark in its understated, expressive brilliance and cemented José González as a meticulous sonic craftsman and
songwriter of singular talent. It’s hard to believe an album recorded with the most basic equipment in a cramped Gothenburg flat could end up
going platinum, not only in Sweden but also the UK, selling well over 1 million copies worldwide. It’s harder still when one acknowledges that,
aside from one brief trumpet solo and the slightest hint of percussion, the record features just one hushed voice and the dexterous picking of an
acoustic guitar’s nylon strings. But 2003’s Veneer was such an album, charting in several countries in the world, and eventually making Top 10
in the UK thanks in part to its delicate, evocative cover of The Knife’s “Heartbeats”.

Issued in 1975, this is the articulation of Zambia’s Zamrock ethos. Its' musicians were anti-colonial freedom fighters, it envelops Zambian folk music traditions, and it rocks - hard. Amanaz were serious, and they made a serious stab at an album. They titled their album Africa, according to original band member Keith Kabwe, “because of how it was shared and how its inhabitants were butchered and enslaved, its resources stolen... all the atrocities slave drivers committed. “ Thus, their “Kale,” a blues sung in Nyanja, that traced the continent’s arc from slavery to Zambia’s independence closes the album. Kabwe and rhythm guitarist John Kanyepa have a winsome softness to their vocals, which sit politely aside the feral growl of drummer Watson Baldwin Lungu, bassist Jerry Mausala and bandleader/lead guitarist Isaac Mpofu. Africa’s vibe ranges from anxious (“Amanaz”) to escapist (“Easy Street”) to straight-up pissed-off. On the “History of Man,” his voice whiskey-burned, his distorted guitar buzzing like swarming hornets, Mpofu indicts his species. There’s a darkness to Africa not found on any other Zamrock records, and a melancholy drifts throughout, specifically on Mpofu’s more restrained “Khala My Friend,” which stands as an effective, bleak situation for the Zambian everyman, the average citizen of a struggling, new nation, who might have had relatives in conflict-torn countries on the horizon, who might have been struggling to find his next meal, who might have seen a bleaker future than his president promised. Then there’s the clear Velvet Underground-influence on the nostalgic “Sunday Morning,” which, as Kabwe recalls, was the first song written for the album, back in 1968, when Velvet Undergound and Nico was a new release - and the underground funk of “Making The Scene.” The album also tackles traditional Zambian music and early-‘60s rock – punctuated, of course by Kanyepa’s wah-wah and Mpofu’s fuzz guitars. But every time Amanaz get too deep, too violent, they come back with an accessible song and woo their listener back to the groove. “Green Apple” is a civil song, featuring Kanyepa’s sighing guitar.

First-ever Vinyl Release OF Cult 1980 Cassette-only Album BY Egyptian Singer Nagat EL Saghira, Curated AND Annotated BY Disco Arabesquo. Includes Production BY Egyptian Funk Legend Hany Shenouda
Following the highly-acclaimed "Sharayet El Disco" compilation, Wewantsounds is delighted to team up with Disco Arabesquo for the reissue of Nagat El Seghira's cult 1980 album "Eyoun El Alb"
Originally released only on cassette on the Egyptian label Soutelphan, the album has since become a sought-after classic on the Arabic groove scene and this is the first time it is released on vinyl. Consisting of four tracks, the album features two tracks produced by Hany Shenouda whose group Al Massrieen is a reference on the Arabic disco funk scene.
Remastered for vinyl by Colorsound Studio in Paris, the album features the original cassette artwork plus a two page colour insert featuring liner notes by Disco Arabesquo.
When it comes to Arabic Divas, Oum Kalthoum, Fairuz and Warda usually take the lead in the poll list. But in her native Egypt, singer Nagat Al Saghira comes very close to this triumvirate. Born in Cairo in 1938, Nagat began singing when she was still a child gaining her stage name "El-Saghira" ("the young one") at this occasion as she started giving concerts at the age of seven, pushed by her father, the famed calligrapher Muhamad Hosny (Nagat's half-sister is the renowned actress Soad Hosny).
Nagat quickly rose to fame in the late forties and became an essential part of classic period of Arabic music, interpreting songs by such titans as Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Baligh Hamdy and Kamal Al Taweel. She also sang the works of Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani whom she introduced to a mainstream audience. Nagat started singing shorter songs but then upgraded to longer ones, often performing/recording them live as it was the trend in the 60s and 70s.
One such song is "Eyoun El Alb" ("Eyes of the Heart") which makes up the whole of Side 1 of the original cassette. Written by Mohamed El Mougy and Abd al-Rahman al-Abdouni, Eyoun El Alb is a love song made up of several distinct sections enhancing Nagat's hypnotic singing, accompanied by a percussion-heavy, traditional Egyptian orchestra.
Side 2 is the "diggers" groovier side featuring two floaters,"Bahlam Ma'ak" ("I Dream with You") and "Ana Basha El Bahr" ("I Adore The Sea") produced by cult Egyptian musician and producer Hany Shenouda, whose albums with his group Al Massrieen are highly sought after on the Arabic funk and Disco scene. One Al Massrieen track features on the "Sharayet el Disco" set compiled by Disco Arabesquo who notes that "Hany Shenouda had made waves with his new musical style that weaved in western funk and disco sounds into Egyptian music"
Both tracks feature an infectious slow-burning groove and incorporate funk influences with fat bass and lines of synth and clavinet that adds a funky tone to Nagat's soft singing. The third track "Fakra" ("Do You Remember") brings the best of both world with a syncopated rhythm and arrangements that are slightly more traditional than the Shenouda-produced tracks.
Originally released in Egypt on Cassette in 1980 on the venerable Soutlephan label, the album is now making its vinyl debut on Wewantsounds annotated by Disco Arabesquo and remastered for vinyl by Colorsound Studio in Paris for the joy of Arabic funk and Global beats worldwide.

The "Thread Magenta Vinyl Edition" by Willow is released as an LP on Three Six Zero and brings together the album "The Thread," her eighth studio album and second release of 2026 after "petal rock black." The record includes ten tracks written and produced by Willow together with her longtime co‑producer Chris Greatti.

Musically, the work continues Willow’s multi-layered, genre-crossing approach: elements of modern rock, alternative pop, and experimental soundscapes are combined with a pronounced focus on songwriting. The arrangements are finely balanced, giving equal space to melodic lines and stripped-down rhythms. Thematically, the focus is on spirituality, philosophical questions, and personal reflection, as already suggested by the lead single.

What characterizes the recording is the close collaboration between Willow and Chris Greatti, which had already proved fruitful on "CopingMechanism" (2022) and the Grammy-nominated "Empathogen" (2024), and here once again shapes distinctive sound designs and song ideas. The magenta edition presents the album on the physical medium of vinyl in a collectible pressing and is aimed at listeners who value the sonic presence and conceptual coherence of this chapter in Willow’s body of work.
