A masterpiece of jazz rock by true master Jiro Inagaki.
Beyond jazz rock.
What Soul Media, led by Jiro Inagaki, ultimately arrived at was a tight, cool, and ultimate groove.

As Inagaki himself has stated that he “played black funk” on this album, the explosive jazz-rock foundation he had cultivated up to that point is fused with the stickiness, elasticity, and physicality of black music—elevating his musical vision to an entirely new dimension. Combined with the masterful arrangements of Hiromasa Suzuki, the groove is polished to a high sheen, growing richer, more fluid, and subtly seductive.
Every track stands out: the vibrant, driving energy of “Painted Paradise”; the coexistence of funkiness and mellowness on “Breeze”; and the low-slung, razor-sharp cover of Kool & The Gang’s “Funky Stuff”.
Now regarded as a definitive classic, this album remains in constant demand from listeners around the world.
Text by Yusuke Ogawa (UNIVERSOUNDS / DEEP JAZZ REALITY)

Limited edition of 300 copies on khaki vinyl, available exclusively at HHV.

The double LP "Here Because Of Hope HHV Exclusive Khaki Vinyl Edition," released on Partisan, presents Ezra Collective in an expansive, conceptual framework that weaves traditional jazz forms together with Afrobeat, funk, and Caribbean rhythms. The album focuses on clear arrangements and production clarity that bring out the ensemble’s vibrant sound and allow the tracks to be heard as a cohesive whole.

Characteristic for Ezra Collective is the collaborative working process and interplay of the five-piece lineup: distinctive horn lines meet precise grooves, warm keyboard tones, and a rhythmic foundation that allows for both improvisational freedom and tight cohesion. This interplay between arrangement and spontaneous energy defines the character of the recordings and underscores the band’s roots in London’s vibrant jazz scene.

Key features of the release include the integration of guest vocalists and spoken passages that structure the album thematically and address questions of diaspora, community, and hope; announced contributions include Pa Salieu, Lila Iké, Leona Lewis, and Libianca, among others. In this way, the edition promises to broaden the band’s existing palette by incorporating vocal elements and spoken word into their instrumental fabric.

A modern masterpiece of Japanese spiritual jazz and modal jazz, "Fukushima" quickly became a sensation among jazz fans around the world. The 2020 live recording "Informel," which served as its prototype, has been reconstructed and remastered for its first-ever release on analog format.

Based in Tokyo, saxophone and flute player Shinsuke Fujieda's group recorded the live album "informel" in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the album originally released in 2021. Originally an ambitious 2CD + DVD set, this landmark work has been reconstructed from a contemporary perspective, remastered, and now released on vinyl in a deluxe edition. Following the excitement of "Fukushima," a contemporary Japanese spiritual jazz and modal jazz studio recording released in 2025 that quickly drew attention from jazz fans around the world, this album captures the historic moment that gave rise to "Fukushima."

Featuring live painting performed simultaneously with the music throughout the concert, this approximately 73-minute epic is packed with performances that capture the energy, depth, and emotion unique to a live setting. From the visceral, almost primal modal jazz of "Fukushima," performed here for the first time, to the approximately 19-minute tour de force "Gentle Erosion," the gradually intensifying "Informel," driven by a looping rhythm, the classical-leaning "Nobody Knows," where light string textures intertwine with soprano saxophone and piano, and the buoyant "Parade," the album is filled with the dynamic vitality of a live performance. Listening to the sound, one can feel that the prototype of "Fukushima" had already taken shape at this point. The reconstructed version of "informel" created specifically for this vinyl release reveals that it is not simply a prototype or straightforward reissue, but rather the starting point of a swirling mass of sound within the larger musical lineage Shinsuke Fujieda Group has developed since the Covid-19 pandemic. While "Fukushima" is a meticulously crafted studio recording, "informel" forms its counterpart with the dynamic, ever-moving sound that can only emerge from a live performance.

3nd pressing with new OBI.

A new classic of contemporary Japanese spiritual/modal jazz is born.
Here unfolds a stunning soundscape painted with overflowing emotion and a quiet, powerful inner energy.
“Fukushima,” the new album by Tokyo-based saxophonist and flutist SINSUKE FUJIEDA and his group, is simply remarkable.
Performed by a first-rate sextet active across different scenes, the music recalls the cool, deeply atmospheric sound of 1970s modal and spiritual jazz, while weaving in subtle elements of classical, world, and East Asian musical traditions.
The modal jazz piece “Fukushima (edit)” is led by flowing, luminous piano phrases;
“Float in Oriental Spring (edit)” evokes an oriental beauty with a faintly sensual glow;
“Silent Night (edit)” stands out with its tight rhythm and supple bass-driven groove;
the classical-leaning “Nobody Knows (edit)” blends elegant strings with soprano saxophone in a gorgeous interplay;
and “Perspective” unfolds as a sharp-edged spiritual jazz tune propelled by vivid percussion.
With instantly memorable melodies, a cool and coherent musical vision, and masterful arrangements and performances, this album is a true gem.

For al.so, space is the place. The exciting new quartet of Berlin and London’s most creative improvisers delivers a debut EP portunes that luxuriates in the spacious rural landscape in which it was created and the intuitive freedom found between a first-time meeting of musicians. “This project is the record of four of us coming together and delving into emotions and atmospherics without a clear goal,” al.so keyboardist Moses Yoofee says. “We were exploring space rather than locking anything into a rhythmic or grid structure. All of it is the product of being in the same room together, being free to follow where the music takes us.” First brought together as part of a curated opening lineup for the 2022 edition of Berlin’s Xjazz Festival, al.so is German Jazz Prize-winning co-founder of the Moses Yoofee Trio, Moses Yoofee, harpist, Floating Pointscollaborator and co-founder of jazz trio Flur, Miriam Adefris, Berlin saxophonist and member of underground collective Sonic Interventions, Marius Max, and modular synthesiser expert and collaborator with Philip Glass and Patti Smith, Robert Henriques. Realising their common musical language and capacity for freeform improvised explorations following their show at Berlin’s Emmauskirche, the quartet decamped to Robert’s family home in Gloucestershire, England in October of the same year to experiment on record.

On "Ahmad Jamal '73," one of jazz's most acclaimed small-group pianists traded in his most familiar instrument for something with a new spin, recording his first of seven studio works for the 20th Century label from behind the electric piano. Backed by an expanded orchestra arranged and conducted by album co-producer Richard Evans, the ensuing album merges familiar jazz traditions with the sound of a new era, pairing Jamal's leads with massive string, vocal, and horn arrangements on versions of then-current soul-funk hits (Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," War's "The World is a Ghetto") and spiritual jazz and funk numbers ("Sustah, Sustah," "Peace At Last").

Verve Vault Series: Cut and mastered by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl by Optimal. Single sleeve with iconic original artwork.

Released on Jazzman, the compilation “Spiritual Jazz 19 - West Coast USA Pt. 2: 70s & 80s” explores the spiritual, modal, and Afrocentric currents that emerged on the U.S. West Coast in the 1970s and 1980s. The collection shines a light on places and labels where alternative, often independent productions flourished, documenting the coexistence of Cool and West Coast aesthetics with a searching, spiritual approach to jazz.

At the core of the release is a programmatic selection of tracks that reflect influences from the counterculture, new religious practices, and the political climate of those years—for example, the Black Panthers. Jazzman situates the compilation within the “Spiritual Jazz” series and emphasizes the role of small labels and local scenes that fostered experimental forms with expanded rhythm and melody. Musically, the contributions range from meditative modal pieces to approaches shaped by gospel and African rhythms.

The edition is released as a double LP, providing room for a wide-ranging sequence that maps out the spectrum of West Coast spiritual jazz production in the 1970s and 1980s. For listeners looking to discover these lesser-known chapters of jazz history, the compilation offers a focused, fact-based overview.

This 1978 work reflects the influence of Latin music and a free-spirited approach, created across studios in L.A., Rio de Janeiro, and Izu. The album includes tracks recorded with local musicians in Brazil, a samba arrangement of Star Wars, and other unique pieces. Fans will also enjoy the beloved track "Disco B." Casiopea’s “Mint Jams” LP, released by Sony Music Japan, brings one of the most distinctive documents in the band’s history back into focus. Originally released in 1982, the album features seven tracks explicitly described as the band’s “best performances,” captured live in a concert hall. The selection showcases Casiopea’s ability to combine complex rhythmic structures and precise melodic phrasing in compact arrangements, while the live setting conveys the musicians’ joy of playing and tight interplay in an immediate way.

For this LP reissue, the material was remastered for vinyl cutting; the cut was made by Bernie Grundman, giving the live recording a clearly defined sonic presence. With this edition, Sony Music Japan places emphasis on faithfully reproducing the original live performance and once again positions “Mint Jams” as a landmark within the band’s jazz/fusion catalog. For listeners seeking Casiopea’s live energy, the “Mint Jams” LP offers a concentrated snapshot that clearly highlights both the group’s compositional refinement and technical virtuosity.

Here comes an incredible Fusion Jazz-Funk discovery on vinyl for the first time. From the vaults of mastermind Günther Fischer came this unreleased outstanding Rare Groove material with breathtaking international high class Jazz from 1974. It bears no comparison with absolute international most wanted sounds from Marc Moulin's Placebo, Masaru Imada´s Green Caterpillar, the german ensemble Catch up, UK´s Nucleus or the US jazz milesstones from Catalyst. It is unbelievable that an East German band played and recorded such fresh modern electrified Jazz at this time. In a perfect modern jazz line-up, Günther Fischer not only plays the Saxophone but also the Synthesizer! Despite the fact that this highly sought-after and therefore mostly fully booked studio and stage band worked with greats such as Manfred Krug, Uschi Brüning and Armin Müller Stahl in the 1970s, these deep and funky inspired "underground jazz" recordings were made and presented to select jazz concertgoers. Günther Fischer and his formation show here that, in addition to the popular Soul Jazz field, they are also in top form in the groovy, electric Avant-Garde Jazz-Rock niche and are playing in the absolute top league. These four tracks are a unique discovery that already belong to the holy grail of Jazz and make Günther Fischer immortal in East German and international Jazz Funk of the 1970s.

Misha Panfilov’s *Where The Birds Fly* LP is released on Funk Night and features six compositions that weave an airy, jazzy fusion of woodwinds, lap steel guitars, and warm keyboard passages. In addition to composing and producing, Panfilov contributes piano, guitar, lap steel, bass, organ, harmonium, Mellotron, and percussion, shaping the dense soundscape on which solos and arrangements can breathe freely. Ilja Gussarov contributes flute, tenor saxophone, and clarinet, while Volodja Brodsky provides the vibraphone coloring. The rhythm section, with Leonid Galaganov on drums, holds down the groove, and Sasha Petrov adds to the horn section.

Additional voices and textures emerge on select tracks: Anna Dotsenko’s wordless vocal runs add accents, Tomo Katsurada contributes guitar and cello, and Joe Harvey-Whyte plays pedal steel on one of the tracks. Titles such as “When I See You (It Feels Wonderful)” and “Guided by the Wind” showcase Panfilov’s feel for melodic motifs and sparse yet colorful arrangements. The album was recorded between January and April 2026, with mastering handled by Jukka Sarapää. The cover artwork is by Nathan Hardyman, while the layout was designed by Ilja Tulit. On Funk Night, *Where The Birds Fly* stands as a restrainedly produced instrumental release that documents Misha Panfilov’s affinity for repeating patterns and subtle, organic sound design.

The “Live at Real World Studios” LP by Alfa Mist is being released on Sekito and showcases the studio session the artist recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios. With this release, Sekito is making available a performance that was initially viewable exclusively on YouTube but is now officially presented as an album; the format documents live-in-the-studio takes on pieces from the concept album “Roulette,” emphasizing direct interaction rather than studio perfection.

On a musical level, Alfa Mist strips back the arrangements without abandoning the narrative threads of his compositions: familiar melodies open up into extended improvisations, rhythmic shifts remain organic and create space for solo passages. The band is made up of long-standing collaborators — Kaya Thomas-Dyke on bass, Jamie Houghton on drums, Jamie Leeming on guitar, Johnny Woodham (JSPHYNX) on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Samuel Rapley on saxophone and bass clarinet — and, taking advantage of the way sound unfolds in the studio, they create a dense yet airy atmosphere. Sekito has assembled the session including two alternative takes (among them “Found You” and “Roulette”), so that the “Live at Real World Studios” LP traces both Alfa Mist’s conceptual depth and his band’s spontaneity. For listeners who want to immerse themselves more deeply in the world of “Roulette,” this Sekito release offers a focused, directly performed companion to the studio album.

Lush green landscapes, dazzling clear streams, a crystalline sky, and snow that falls without a sound—
these are the beautiful scenes woven into Scenery, created by Ryo Fukui, the renowned pianist born in Hokkaido. Here, they live on forever.

His fresh, delicate playing has captivated countless listeners, and his debut album Scenery has come to be highly acclaimed around the world. Fukui, who began playing the piano at the age of 22, recorded this album when he was just 28. The earnest passion of his youth resonates throughout the music, gently stirring the emotions of those who listen. The spacious, confident swing of “It Could Happen To You”, the refreshing joy radiating from “Early Summer”, the late autumn coolness imbued in the title track “Scenery” each embodies the uniquely expansive yet nuanced “Hokkaido sensibility” that flowed naturally from Fukui’s artistry.
Within this album, the beautiful landscapes that Ryo Fukui crafted his Scenery continue to breathe eternally.

Repressed due to heaaaaaaaaaavy demand!

In TRAFO, Opek connects his cinematic visions to his love for jazz music, creating a dark and cloudy deep groove soundscape, filled with hallucinations and slivers of time travel. The mostly instrumental album scratches different genres, including spiritual jazz, rare groove, and of course library and 70s film music.

Recorded live in his Cologne studio by a five piece band, Opek pays homage to influences like Wayne Shorter, Soft Machine, David Axelrod and Marc Moulin’s Placebo. The recording setting gives the album tension and vividness on one hand, intimacy and warmth on the other.

The compositions transform old memories into melodies and strive to translate recurrent observations into sound. On TRAFO Opek plays the drums and is accompanied by Caris Hermes on double bass, Elisabeth Waanders on Fender Rhodes, Julius van Rhee on saxophone and Jonathan Böbel on trombone.

Typical Opek-esk sounds make the album a krautjazz experience and let elements of nightly madness dissolve into stimulating curiosity.

Limited edition of 300 copies on grey marbled vinyl, available exclusively at HHV.

The “Drift” LP by Noah X Petter is released on the Berlin label Leiter and marks the debut of the duo of bassist and producer Petter Eldh and drummer Noah Fürbringer. Six short compositions, each just under three minutes long, work with sampling, improvisational moments, and studio-focused reduction; as a result, the album develops the punch of a mixtape aesthetic without sacrificing compositional density. Musically, “Drift” moves between jazz and fusion, weaving in pointed hip-hop impulses and electronic textures into precise grooves.

Production and performance are handled entirely by Fürbringer and Eldh; all tracks are written, performed, and produced by the two of them. On “DEEP NOTE,” Talib Kweli appears as a guest with a freestyle verse, a clear highlight of the record. Recording took place at Koma Industries; mixing was done by oh.no.ty, mastering by Zino Mikorey, and the vinyl cut by Andreas Kauffelt. The artwork features a photograph by Manic Cinema, and the layout was designed by Studio Torsten Posselt. “Drift” offers on the Leiter label a compact, precisely crafted introduction to the Noah X Petter project, translating the intersection of jazz, beat culture, and electronic sound work into small, focused forms.

The Grammy-winning bassist, singer, songwriter, and producer has been one of the most influential artists at the intersection of soul, jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop, and the avant-garde for more than three decades. Rather than simply covering classics, she transforms songs spanning six decades of popular music into a distinctive musical universe entirely her own. Each track is conceived as a duet. Joined by guests including Cynthia Erivo, Chaka Khan, Cat Power, Robert Glasper, Brandi Carlile, Lianne La Havas, Moses Sumney, WILLOW, and ANOHNI, Ndegeocello explores themes of love, longing, pain, and self-determination through deeply personal reinterpretations. Produced with David Gamson and Abe Rounds, "Synonym" is far more than a covers album - it is a tribute to great songwriting and a powerful statement on music's ability to connect us.

The “Music Is Invisible (Pentimento Volume Three)” LP by Jon Hassell was released on Ndeya and forms the third part of the Pentimento trilogy. Recorded on May 23, 2015, at St John at Hackney Church in London during Hassell’s final live concert, the release documents the joint performance with Rick Cox and John von Seggern.

Themes, motifs, and striking riffs from Hassell’s previous albums “Listening To Pictures” and “Seeing Through Sound” run through the recordings and are reshaped in semi-improvised variations. The pieces balance composed passages and freer development, with the chamber-like spatial acoustics of the church recording contributing to the sonic architecture. Jon Hassell and his long-time companion Jeff Rona carefully mixed and edited the material. Their mix preserves the performance’s dynamics and brings improvisational details clearly to the fore.

As an LP on Ndeya, “Music Is Invisible (Pentimento Volume Three)” sits stylistically in the realm of jazz/fusion and concludes the renaissance of the Pentimento series in the late phase of Hassell’s career. The release focuses on the development of his final works and gathers thematically related approaches into a concentrated live document. It presents the thematic threads of his late albums as focused live takes on them.

The 12" “La Truffe Galactique” by Black Truffle on G.A.M.M. explores the spectrum between spaced-out European disco, proto-disco, and jazz disco. The release brings together four tracks that vary in tempo and mood: from floating, cosmic passages to mid-tempo groove formats that leave room for subtle melodic twists. The focus is on elegant arrangements that connect disco traditions with slightly offset, jazzy harmonies.

Black Truffle is known for offering new takes on established dance music traditions and for combining edit techniques with a fine sense of balance between nostalgia and contemporary treatment. On “La Truffe Galactique,” these qualities come to the fore: rhythmic precision meets restrained yet impactful sonic details, making the tracks suitable both for club use and for listening at home. The pieces rely on open spaces and carefully shaped dynamic arcs rather than sheer loudness.

A defining feature of this release is the mastering: Lay-Far transferred the recordings to reel-to-reel tape to achieve a warm, analog sonic character. This gives the music more organic depth and tonal refinement, effectively showcasing the stylistic range of Black Truffle on G.A.M.M.

The cream vinyl edition of the Archives LP by Vanishing Twin is released on Fire. This edition brings together nine pieces conceived as a collage of song fragments, rhythmic experiments, and atmospheric interludes, presenting the trio’s material in a compact form.

Vanishing Twin are a London-based collective centered around vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas, joined by drummer Valentina Magaletti and bassist/producer Susumu Mukai. Their style sits at the intersection of psychedelic pop, cosmic leanings, and minimal song structures, with foreign elements such as library music references and post-punk aesthetics shaping the overall sound.

The tracks emerge from a process-based approach: repeated collecting, reordering, and reconnecting of sessions results in overtly collaborative arrangements and richly textured sonic spaces. Magaletti’s metronomic patterns and Mukai’s bass-driven foundations form the framework on which Lucas’s playful song ideas and vocal melodies unfold.

Tracks like “Life By The Hand” and the title track “Archives” highlight the tension between accessible melodicism and a subtle appetite for experimentation; the cream pressing underscores this appeal as a physical object and brings the fine nuances of the arrangements onto vinyl. The release continues the project’s steady evolution.

The “Occasional Rain” LP by Terry Callier, released on Slow Down Sounds, puts the striking interplay between singer-songwriter sensibility and soulful rhythm clearly at the forefront. Charles Stepney is responsible for production, harpsichord, and organ; the arrangements rely on subtle, sometimes suite-like transitions and are carried by contributions from bassist Sydney Simms, pianist Lennie Pirani, and drummer Rob Crowder. Shirley Wahls, Kitty Haywood, and Minnie Riperton augment Callier’s lead with precise background vocals that add extra layers to the vocal lines.

Musically, “Occasional Rain” blends elements of funk and soul with jazzy and folk-inflected nuances; the record uses short segues that structure the album as a cohesive work. Tracks like “Ordinary Joe” and the title song “Occasional Rain” showcase Callier’s warm, narrative voice and Stepney’s dense, often surprising orchestrations. The production emphasizes clear instrumental definition and a dynamic balance between intimate singer-songwriter moments and arranged band performances.

For fans and collectors, the “Occasional Rain” LP by Terry Callier on Slow Down Sounds is an opportunity to experience this early chapter of his collaboration with Charles Stepney in a carefully presented vinyl format; the release highlights both the compositional depth of the pieces and the meticulous detail in the arrangements.

The "Teodros Makonnen With His Organ" double LP by Teodros Makonnen is released on Muzikawi and marks the first official reissue of this work. The recordings have been carefully restored and remastered and are now available as a gatefold double LP that reproduces the original cover art; the set includes extensive liner notes in English and Amharic as well as previously unpublished photographs from the archive of Teferi “Bibisha” Mengesha.

Musically, the record documents an early, bold use of electronic means in Ethiopian music. The tracks originally existed only on cassette and were recorded live in a single take on a Yamaha dual keyboard in the apartment of a Saudi Arabian diplomat in Addis Ababa; the result blends traditional melodies with atmospheric drum-machine patterns and hypnotic organ synthesizers. This experimental approach makes the album a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s early digital sound language.

Teodros Makonnen appears here as keyboardist, arranger, and sound designer; his trajectory spans formal training at the Yared School of Music to long-standing engagements with bands such as Dahlak and the Shebele Ensemble. His role as a pioneer of electronic sequencing in Addis Ababa and his collaborations with major figures like Mulatu Astatke, Aster Aweke, and Mahmoud Ahmed define his profile and explain the special status of this album within the history of Ethiopian music.

The Twit 1, II, Three are a Cologne-based band made up of producer Twit One, vibraphonist Maxime von Koblinski, and drummer Niklas Schneider (Keshavara). Their first album is being released on Melting Pot Music and features a unique blend of hip-hop, krautrock, tropicalia, spiritual jazz, and ambient.

Twit One has been shaping Cologne’s beat and hip-hop scene for more than 15 years – as a DJ, producer, radio maker, and co-owner of the Groove Attack record store. For Twit, hip-hop is less a genre than an attitude and cultural technique rooted in African American music history. With The Twit 1, II, Three, he’s realizing his sound vision in a band context for the first time, together with classically trained musician Maxime von Koblinski on vibraphone and Niklas Schneider from Cologne kraut-pop band Keshavara on drums. Twit acts as musical director, provides samples and ideas, and sometimes plays bass.

In 2024, The Twit 1, II, Three self-released a C20 cassette limited to 100 copies and played shows at the following venues: Week-End Festival and Soundball Festival (Cologne), Philharmonie Essen, Schleuse Zwei (Düsseldorf), Aktionshaus (Berlin), De Duivel (Amsterdam).

Afterwards they moved into Satori Studio in Cologne-Müngersdorf, where the band spent a year and a half working away on their debut album. The self-titled album will be released in October 2026 and throws the doors wide open: hip-hop, krautrock, tropicalia, spiritual jazz, and ambient form the cornerstones. Twit One, fully produced and played with real instruments, would be the down-to-earth description. Sun Ra & Dilla on their way to Jupiter with a stopover in Montreux would be the more poetic one. 8 out of 10 tracks are instrumental. Guest vocals come from Reginald Omas Mamode IV and Turt (Summers Sons), two longtime musical friends who were invited and who also release on MPM. Artwork by Jeremias Diekmann & Robert Winter.

The “Relaxin' With The Miles Davis Quintet” LP by The Miles Davis Quintet is released on Concord in a limited Small Batch One-Step pressing. For this edition, the mastering was done by Bernie Grundman; the record is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI using Neotech VR900 compound. Each copy is individually numbered and housed in a foil-stamped, clothbound slipcase with an acrylic inset of the original artwork. The tip-on jacket is supplied as an original-style reproduction, and the record can be removed using a pull ribbon; an archival, anti-static inner sleeve protects the vinyl. New liner notes for this release come from Grammy-winning music historian Ashley Kahn.

Musically, the LP documents the two 1956 sessions at Rudy Van Gelder Studio and features the quintet of Miles Davis (trumpet), John Coltrane (tenor saxophone), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Philly Joe Jones (drums). The album includes standards such as “If I Were A Bell,” “You're My Everything,” “I Could Write A Book,” “Oleo,” “It Could Happen To You,” and “Woody'n You,” presented here in richly detailed sound. This edition emphasizes sonic fidelity and a premium physical presentation of “Relaxin' With The Miles Davis Quintet,” combining historically significant performances with meticulously crafted packaging details.

New and stunning release on Smiling C limited to 500 copies worldwide. Exclusively available through HHV in Europe.

More than four years in the making, Tiki Shack Recording Studios AKA Smiling C Records & Mike Patricola present Pipe Dreams — a compilation of sidewalk surf bands, tropical troubadours, and soothing sounds from just beyond the reef.

Compiled by Mike Patricola, Pipe Dreams is the culmination of years spent exchanging obscure recordings, pursuing a shared feeling, and uncovering a sub-genre of overlooked songs that could be woven into a story of surf, snorkel, and sun. Drawn from Patricola's collection, the compilation aims to capture the feeling of endless summer, and serves as an ode to the freedom of island living: Bikini-shaped sunburns, coconut stands closed due to perfect swells, slack guitars, perpetual sunsets, guppies darting through shallow water, and afternoons spent face-down in the sand.

Spanning the late 1970s through the mid 1980s, Pipe Dreams gathers forgotten pop, lounge, soft rock, AOR, disco, and private-press oddities into a time capsule that seeks to epitomize an era that existed before life became mediated by screens. One in which technology was more naive and society was less reliant upon it. Time moved slower, people were better able to connect with their surroundings, and the dream of moving to a coastal utopia felt more attainable.

Each side unfolds as its own chapter.

Side A begins with Midwestern lettermen The Sunset Kidds, whose hypnagogic harmonies on “Darlin’” evoke the Beach Boys mired in the post-summer doldrums. Australia's Simplex 2 follow with the previously unreleased “Tiger Bay”, capturing the slow pulse of a perfect beach day through low end groove. Don Moore's infectious “Water Lily” arrives via a romantic Fire Island love affair, while Cay Gottlieb contributes a dose of Bahamian Balearica. To close the side out, Tennessee crooner Ron Holmes delivers an extra dose of salt on the margarita rim for good measure.

Side B shifts into a more upbeat surf-disco and pub-rock mode. Montreal’s Dino Pacifici’s nostalgic ode to carefree summers long passed, followed by Marseille's own The Students "Ocean Lifestyle" — which sits somewhere between Shuggie Otis and The Stranglers. Another Montréalais artist Pierre Rochette delivers a chuggy surf-disco belter, while Special Edition Band ventures from boozy rock into a washed-out paradise with glistening guitars.

Side C serves as an ode to tropical troubadours — intimate songs that range from drum machine lounge to private island bedroom recordings. Japan's Twin Cosmos, actual identical twins, dream up beachfront breezes on "Coconuts Wind." Hawaiian songwriter Dennis Soares offers the delicate and deeply personal "One World," while Ossie Parker Jr. supplies some Bahamian barroom sophistication. Miles Corbin brings sounds straight from the tiki hut, and lounge lizard Glen Banks takes us into the final intermission with a lullaby live from the Coconut Grove.

Side D catches a wave back in. Meri-Lynn & The Key Lime Pie Band celebrate the Florida Key life, Dennis Soares returns for one final Hawaiian postcard, and the Latin band Acapulco contribute a hefty dose of sunny positivity akin to one of Brian Wilson’s cheerier tunes. To round it out, Rick Sharp injects a touch of Bossa cheek and fantasy, and British pub blokes Contrast steer the compilation back toward where it all began — a destination somewhere between a Beach Boy California paradise, a remote oceanside lounge for loners, and a sleazy coastal timeshare.

Pressed on vinyl in a deluxe die-cut, spot-glossed gatefold jacket featuring artwork by our man Charles Bals and cover “Breaking Wave” photo by Lex Thompson. Pipe Dreams is designed as both a listening experience and an object of escape. Drop the needle, lean back, and let the tide carry you away.

The “Blue Collar Jazz” LP by Fonville X Fribush is released on WarHen and brings together the core team of drummer Corey Fonville and organist Sam Fribush; guitarist Alan Good Parker appears on the album as a guest, adding extra melodic and textural nuance to the production.

Musically, the release consistently leans on the warm sound of a Hammond B‑3, recorded live at the center of the arrangements, while Fonville’s distinctive grooves and percussive details anchor the timing. The recordings were made in a short span as largely live takes with deliberately minimal post‑production; this live character gives the tracks an open, organic sense of dynamics. Lance Koehler is credited as an engineer on the project.

“Blue Collar Jazz” combines original compositions with reimagined pieces and stays true to its self‑described guiding concept of “blue‑collar jazz”: direct, craft‑driven arrangements, a pronounced R&B influence, and selective guitar colors that at times add lap‑steel‑like accents. The LP presents the organ‑trio format in a contemporary form and emphasizes the joy of playing and narrative solo parts, without putting studio effects front and center.

Cecil Payne’s “Zodiac” LP is released on Strata East and documents a session recorded in 1968 at TownSound Studios in Englewood, New Jersey, and first released in 1973. Payne is at the center on baritone and alto saxophone, with all compositions written by him. The recording also forms the third installment of Strata-East’s Dolphy Series.

For “Zodiac,” Cecil Payne assembled an all-star quintet: Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Wynton Kelly on piano and organ, Wilbur Ware providing the foundation on bass, and Albert “Tootie” Heath on drums. The session was produced by Clifford Jordan. The music combines Payne’s distinctive, sonorous baritone sound with dynamic ensemble interplay and ample room for extended improvisation.

The album’s material ranges from “Martin Luther King, Jr. I Know Love” and “Girl, You Got a Home” to the more than twelve-minute “Flying Fish.” The release is dedicated to the memory of Wynton Kelly and Kenny Dorham, both of whom died after the recordings were made. With “Zodiac,” Strata East presents a Cecil Payne album released years after its recording that highlights his role as a bandleader and composer as clearly as it showcases his extraordinary presence on baritone saxophone.

The “Live At The Kimo Theatre Albuquerque 1979” LP by Cecil Taylor is released on Black Editions and documents a little-heard performance by the Cecil Taylor Unit at the KiMo Theatre in Albuquerque. The November 20, 1979 recording brings Jimmy Lyons’ distinctive alto saxophone and Ramsey Ameen’s violin to the forefront of an ensemble in which Alan Silva supports on bass and cello and Jerome Cooper adds drums, balafon, shehnai, and flute colors, while Cecil Taylor interweaves piano and percussive elements. This lineup gives the performance an unusual sonic palette that, over the course of the extended pieces, leaves room for dense clusters, sudden impulses, and finely articulated shifts in dynamics and texture.

Black Editions presents “Live At The Kimo Theatre Albuquerque 1979” in an elaborately designed double-LP format with a heavyweight gatefold sleeve, metallic and ink-pigmented artwork, and an extensive 12-page listening guide by Ben Young. The recordings were made under the direction of Tom Guralnick in collaboration with KUNM and the New Mexico Jazz Workshop; recording was handled by Mike Wolff, mastering was done by Joe Lizzi, and the lacquers were cut by Kevin Gray. The release was produced by Peter Kolovos and Michael Ehlers, so that the “Live At The Kimo Theatre Albuquerque 1979” LP stands both as a historical document and as a carefully documented edition of Cecil Taylor’s late Unit period.

Mr Bongo reissues, in full for the first time, a pioneering Trinidadian steelband album from 1979. Masterminded by the key and highly influential calypso / soca steelpan player, Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, Phase2 showcases Boogsie’s innovative fusion of jazz, funk and Caribbean rhythms in stunning style.

Dubbed ‘the Mozart of Pan’ by Wynton Marsalis, Boogsie began playing pan at the age of five and composed his own music by the age of nine years old. Across a long and illustrious career, he has won seven National Panorama Championships in Trinidad and Tobago with his compositions and band, a world Steelband Music Festival with his original compositions “In the Rainforest”, and two Notting Hill Panorama Championships with Mangrove Steel Orchestra. Over the years he has also played with Andre Tanker, Lord Shorty, Lord Kitchener, Leston Paul, Clive Zanda, and other amazing Caribbean greats. Len became an arranger for the National Steelband of Trinidad and Tobago and is a cultural ambassador for the country promoting the instrument.

Phase2 is built up predominantly of original compositions by Boogsie, alongside a track penned by fellow Trinidadian musician Raf Robertson and an outstanding Trinidadian-disco cover version of Roy Ayers' classic ‘Can't You See Me’. Phase II is the name of the band Boogsie started with six of his friends who sought to compose their own music.

Drenched in feel-good island-life energy, the eight tracks showcase Boogsie’s creative approach to the pan and its ability to elevate the flavour of a host of genres not usually associated with the instrument.

‘Can't You See Me’ is an underground disco banger that has become highly sought-after. It’s no surprise why, with pan injecting Caribbean heat to Ayers’ original. When rare groove DJs picked up on it and began playing it in their sets, it introduced Boogsie’s talents to a wider audience.

Far from a one-track wonder, there is plenty more to dig into on the album. The cosmic jazz-funk of ‘Boogie Kaiso’ is pure brilliance. Starting off with a soul-nourishing piano introduction, it drops into a super deep, addictive, pan-infused disco groove which has Cloud One-esque vibes to it. The composition sounds fresh and is the perfect secret weapon for the dancefloor.

Elsewhere, ‘Weight’ is another highlight. A sweet, catchy jazz-funk dancer with some sublime playing throughout. ‘Yoga Styling’ and ‘Punk Party’ kick off with brilliant breaks, before opening out into grooves rich in leftfield disco swagger, hypnotic musicianship and blistering pan solos by Boogsie. Then there’s ‘Celebration’, reminiscent of a mix between a Stevie Wonder song and a calypso classic, with amazing, relaxed, but on-point funk drumming by Richard Bailey. Providing a moment to pause for breath, ‘Passing Time’ is meditative and deep with just Boogsie on the pan, a moment of relaxed and regenerative calm on the record.

Whether you’re already familiar with the iconic sound of Len "Boogsie" Sharpe or are discovering his magic for the first time, we hope you get inspired by this masterpiece from one of the best in their craft.

Over the past two decades, Berlin-based producer Hulk Hodn has quietly cemented himself as a cornerstone of the European beatmaking community. Much of that foundation was built alongside Cologne wordsmith Retrogott. Across a staggering run of a dozen collaborative albums, the duo became the gold standard for independent, sample-heavy hip-hop and German rap. Hodn’s dusty soundscapes and unquantized, head-nodding grooves have always spoken for themselves, a testament to physical music culture, no fleeting digital hype. Now, Sichtexot Records is proud to announce his latest full-length album, a project that honors those deep boom-bap roots while pushing his sound into expansive new territories.

Stepping away from the traditional, isolated beatmaker paradigm, the new LP is the culmination of Zahlbach Publishing songwriting camps held in Limoux, France, throughout 2023 and 2024. Hulk Hodn has crafted what is arguably his most versatile and creative project to date. The record moves between raw, foundational hip-hop, warm neo-soul, wonky instrumental beats, and progressive rap.

To bring this vision to life, Hodn assembled a striking cast of collaborators. The vocal roster spans the globe, featuring Paris’ own Ichon, New York based rap visionary ovrkast., UK vocalists Raelle and Lex Amour, and Madrid lofi-rap standout Cráneo. He is equally matched on the production and instrumentation side, trading ideas with a heavyweight lineup of peers including FloFilz, Wun Two, Gabiga, Matt Wilde, Greedo, Teo and halfpastseven.

The new album will be released on September 4th, 2026, via Sichtexot Records. It will be available across all digital platforms and as a limited-edition vinyl pressing.

I Am An Instrument — a fully improvised modal jazz/dub collective based in Copenhagen, releasing their new album Wonder, Wander in late August on their own label, IAAI Music.

The premise of I Am An Instrument is simple and radical: no setlists, no arrangements, no safety net. Every record is a document of musicians surrendering entirely to the moment — modal jazz sensibility colliding with dub space and texture, recorded live as a single unfolding event. Wonder, Wander is the album where that philosophy deepens into something more searching. The title says it: it’s music that doesn’t arrive — it moves, it drifts, it discovers.

This isn’t a band that rehearses its improvisation. The tension on the record is real.

Joe Armon-Jones appears on this album — not as a featured guest in the conventional sense, but as a full participant in the improvisation. The backstory is simple: I met him backstage while he was setting up for a gig, handed him a bag of vinyl, and discovered he already had some of my productions in his collection. That moment of mutual recognition turned into a conversation, and eventually into a session. He came in, surrendered to the process like everyone else, and what’s on the record is what happened.

The band are rooted in Copenhagen’s experimental underground, with connections running from Afrobeat to dub to spiritual jazz. Not easy to categorize, which is exactly the way they like it.

The compilation "Skyrager Presents Coconut Dreams Volume One" has been released on Mr Bongo as a gatefold double LP. Collector, producer, and DJ Skyrager, known as Danny McLewin (one half of Psychemagik), has curated a soundtrack-like selection that functions as an imaginary tropical retreat. The compilation draws on carefully chosen tracks, some familiar and some rediscovered, which in sequence create a calm, dreamlike atmosphere.

Musically, the compilation moves between sun-drenched folk idyll, dreamy soul, astral ambient textures, and smooth AOR. Tracks like The Carmets’ “Silver Moon Beach” and Angela Bofill’s “Under The Moon And Over The Sky” sit alongside Keiko Nosaka & George Murasaki with koto-infused prog rock, Fred Bryan & The All Stars’ politically charged soul, and O’Donel Levy’s warm guitar work. Vinyl-exclusive tracks and the breadth of arrangements underline the curatorial signature and open up space for unexpected sonic encounters.

The sequencing emphasizes a fluid transition from organic rhythms to ethereal synth layers and delicate horn arrangements, allowing the record to function as a continuous journey. As a Mr Bongo release, the compilation also documents meticulous archival work and Skyrager’s keen ear for gems beyond the mainstream.

The "Almost There" LP by Espen Eriksen Trio is released on Rune Grammofon and continues the pianist and composer's trajectory: concise, melodic compositions that combine both melancholic and uplifting moments. The pieces follow a clear, song-like structure that leaves room for subtle nuances and gives the album its distinctive, restrained aesthetic.

The breathtaking sound quality of the production is particularly noteworthy. Rich in detail, dynamic, and organically natural, the sound is the result of the recording and mixing work at Propeller Music Division in Oslo, the studio Espen Eriksen has favored for several albums. It is precisely this level of fidelity that makes "Almost There" especially appealing to audiophile listeners.

Espen Eriksen Trio was formed in 2007 and released its debut in 2010; the fixed lineup of Espen Eriksen (piano), Lars Tormod Jenset (double bass), and Andreas Bye (drums) is characterized by tight, interactive interplay. The band has toured on four continents and worked repeatedly with British saxophonist Andy Sheppard; their reduced, melodic approach has received widespread international acclaim. All three musicians bring broad experience from pop to jazz and have collaborated, among others, with artists such as Bugge Wesseltoft and John Scofield.

The "Black Rhythm Happening" LP by Eddie Gale was released on Blue Note and brings together eight tracks that make the connection between jazz, soul, and gospel-style choral structures clearly audible. Recorded on May 2, 1969 at Van Gelder Studio, the album captures an organic, live-sounding sonic image on vinyl; the total running time is about 37 minutes.

Musically, Eddie Gale draws on his experience with Sun Ra and the New York avant-garde, combining it with soulful harmonic textures and rhythmically driven percussion. The title track works with call-and-response formulas, "Mexico Thing" introduces Afro-Latin chants, and other pieces reveal an affinity with freer jazz forms. This stylistic mixture is highlighted by the use of an eleven-piece vocal group, the Noble Gale Singers ensemble.

The lineup underscores the ambitious character of the project: Gale leads on trumpet, accompanied by Jimmy Lyons on alto saxophone, Roland Alexander and Russell Lyle on saxophones and flutes, Jo Ann Gale Stevens on guitar and vocals, and Elvin Jones on drums; bass and African percussion round out the arrangements. The combination of choir, horns, and powerful rhythms makes "Black Rhythm Happening" an unusual yet coherent chapter in Blue Note history.

The Frozen Flashes 12" by Okvsho, released on Hip Dozer, documents the Zurich project of brothers Christoph and Georg Kiss in a working method that tightly intertwines live improvisation and studio-based editing. In sessions in Zurich and London, the musicians played together; short, spontaneous moments, rhythms, and textures were captured, then sampled, cut, and arranged into nine carefully sculpted pieces. The result sits somewhere between jazz and fusion and uses the unpredictability of recordings as a compositional principle. Guests such as Azekel, Melodiesinfonie, FloFilz, Tenderlonious, and Hadel contribute individual accents; their contributions add sharp highlights and expand the instrumental palette.

On this 12", Okvsho and Hip Dozer show how fragmentary ideas can ripen into concise themes; brief recordings become starting points for entire tracks that feel both raw and fully worked out. Frozen Flashes is thus less a conventional album in the traditional sense than a collection of moments that puts spontaneity front and center and makes the structural arc between live session and studio work visible.

Charles Brackeen’s “Rhythm X” LP was released on Strata East and documents the saxophonist’s debut as a bandleader. Recorded on January 26, 1968, and released in 1973, the album brings together four original compositions with a distinctive free jazz lineup: Don Cherry on trumpet, Charlie Haden on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums. The session was produced by Clifford Jordan.

Brackeen’s tenor saxophone stands at the center of an open, dynamic approach that emphasizes close interaction and spontaneous development. On the title track, “Rhythm X,” and the extended “Hour Glass,” a soundscape takes shape that shifts between angular impulses, lyrical lines, and collective interplay. The participation of Cherry, Haden, and Blackwell points to the New York avant-garde of the era and to an ensemble closely connected to Ornette Coleman’s musical circle.

All of the pieces were written by Charles Brackeen, whose distinctive voice clearly emerges despite the presence of such prominent collaborators. The four musicians treat the compositions not as rigid frameworks but as starting points for fluid dialogues between saxophone, trumpet, bass, and drums. In this way, “Rhythm X” combines the angular energy of free jazz with a pronounced melodic sensibility. Strata East presents a historically significant recording from the label’s early period and a focused portrait of Brackeen’s distinctive musical language.

The LP “Life,” released on Universal, presents pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto in a trio setting with Sam Jones on bass and Billy Higgins on drums. The recording combines standards and original pieces into a compact running time that centers Yamamoto’s touch with strong attack and melodic finesse. The warm trio lineup allows for dynamic shifts between intimate piano dialog and driving swing.

Musically, “Life” moves between classic jazz standards and blues‑soaked original compositions; tracks like “Billysam Blues” and takes on “Green Dolphin Street” showcase the album’s range. Yamamoto’s style is characterized by precise articulation, a preference for clear, high registers, and a fine sense of tempo and phrasing, giving the pieces both lyrical moments and a strong groove orientation.

Regarding the production: the recordings were made in the 1970s and overseen by producers from the Universal circle of that era; the technical execution emphasizes transparency and space for the acoustic trio instrumentation, so that each musician stands out clearly. For listeners interested in classic piano trios and Japanese jazz production of the seventies, “Life” offers a direct glimpse into Yamamoto’s early artistic voice.

The “Suite For Max Brown” LP by Jeff Parker was released on Nonesuch in partnership with International Anthem and carries a personal dedication to his mother, Maxine Brown. On the record, Parker leads his ensemble The New Breed and takes on guitar, synthesizer, and sampler duties as well as piano and drum work; the opening vocal is contributed by his daughter Ruby Parker. Together with co-producer and bassist Paul Bryan, who also mixed the recordings with Parker, he shapes a just-under-an-hour program that feels both composed and open.

Musically, “Suite For Max Brown” blends jazz with elements of R&B and soul, and extends Parker’s compositional signature through carefully chosen reinterpretations: alongside nine original compositions, the album features Jeff Parker’s rendition of John Coltrane’s “After the Rain” as well as the short piece “Gnarciss,” based on a motif by Joe Henderson. The contributing musicians include pianist and saxophonist Josh Johnson, trumpeter Nate Walcott, Rob Mazurek on piccolo trumpet, cellist Katinka Kleijn, and drummers Makaya McCraven, Jamire Williams, and Jay Bellerose, who lend rhythmic depth to the arrangements. The “Suite For Max Brown” LP documents Parker’s feel for airy melodies and subtle grooves and places his work as a composer and multi-instrumentalist in a clear, distinctive context.

The "Lupin The 3rd Orignal Soundtrack Clear Red Vinyl Edition" by You & Explosion Band Yuji Ohno is released as a 12-inch edition on Nippon Columbia and brings key themes from the Lupin universe to colored vinyl. The clear red vinyl underscores the collectible character of the release and transfers both the orchestral and funky arrangements cleanly to the format.

For decades, Yuji Ohno with You & Explosion Band has defined the compositional core of the series, combining jazzy harmonies with funk, soul, and fusion elements; this blend also shapes the present compilation. Characteristic features include striking horn lines, springy bass runs, and smooth Rhodes or piano parts that carry both grooving tracks and cinematic interludes. The band functions as a flexible ensemble that shifts between a big band feel and more intimate small jazz combo settings.

This edition highlights not only the well-known themes but also Yuji Ohno’s arrangements and production work; dense horn sections and selective string arrangements add cinematic depth, while the rhythm section drives the pieces forward. For lovers of soundtrack jazz and collectors of Japanese soundtrack pressings, this LP offers a documentary addition to the discography of You & Explosion Band Yuji Ohno.

The “Exotic Meditations / Sloppy Souls” LP by JJ Whitefield is released on Funk Night and brings together two distinctly different sonic halves. The release came out on March 6, 2026; all material was written, performed, recorded, and produced by JJ Whitefield. The first side unfolds as a series of library-inspired pieces that combine chilled grooves with hints of Ethio-jazz and influences from the Middle East, repeatedly incorporating unusual instrumental textures and sparse, concise melodic lines.

The second side, titled “Sloppy Souls,” offers dense, organic instrumental arrangements that evoke familiar late-night soul and instrumental ballads while leaving room for subtle variations in the groove. Tracks such as “Assra Ahnd Pt. 1” and “Shattered Dreams” illustrate the range between exotic atmospheres and an emotive, lightly grainy soul aesthetic. Johannes Schleiermacher contributes tenor saxophone and flute and is also involved in co-writing tracks 1 and 5. Released as an LP on Funk Night, “Exotic Meditations / Sloppy Souls” documents JJ Whitefield’s continued engagement with library-oriented sonic ideas and his ability to connect dense arrangements with pared-down, effective motifs.

The “Live In Leipzig And Berlin” LP by Misha Panfilov Septet is released on Funk Night and documents two concert evenings at Gretchen in Berlin and Backstein West in Leipzig. The gatefold sleeve presents four tracks recorded live by the band, including the nearly fifteen-minute “The Sky for You and I.” These organic, extended ensemble improvisations create space for sophisticated horn arrangements, Wurlitzer textures, and Panfilov’s lap steel. Funk Night deliberately presents the recording as a live document, allowing the septet’s sonic dynamics to come through clearly.

The septet features Leonid Galaganov on drums and percussion, Monika Erdman on electric bass, Ilja Gussarov on flutes, Artur Leppik on alto and soprano saxophone, Sasha Petrov on tenor saxophone, Volodja Brodsky on Wurlitzer, and Misha Panfilov on electric guitar, lap steel, and percussion. All compositions were written by Panfilov, who also handled production. The live sessions from November 1 and 2, 2025, were recorded by Pjotr Latõšev, with mastering by Jukka Sarapää. The artwork, featuring a front-cover painting by Stiina Kokko, and the layout by Ilja Tulit give the Funk Night release a handcrafted touch, while Hanz Mambo completes the design. The “Live In Leipzig And Berlin” LP focuses on the defining sonic nuances of a modern jazz-fusion ensemble.

The jade vinyl edition of Surprise Chef’s “Frogs In A Pond” LP is released on Concord.

Surprise Chef, the quartet from Coburg, presents its fifth studio album with “Frogs In A Pond,” recorded in and around its analog studio, College of Knowledge. The Concord release highlights the band’s take on a compact, cinematic approach: over approximately 40 minutes, the album unfolds as a suite that combines elements of jazz/fusion, instrumental jazz-funk, and cinematic color without relying on obvious effects. Previously released tracks such as “Leg Day” and “Outside Voice” offer a clear impression of the balance between driving rhythms and detailed arrangements that defines the album.

The “Frogs In A Pond” LP on Concord stands out with precisely placed horn and keyboard passages, as well as a rhythmic signature that leaves room for restrained groove and dramatic arcs of tension. The jade vinyl edition presents the album in a richly tactile format and focuses attention on the warm, organic sonic character that Surprise Chef has refined over years of playing together. For listeners seeking subtly composed, instrumental-oriented music, “Frogs In A Pond” represents a distinctive entry in Surprise Chef’s body of work and in Concord’s catalog.

The “Gathering” 12-inch by the Fumio Karashima Trio is released on Three Blind Mice and documents the pianist’s second album as a bandleader in a carefully prepared vinyl edition. The release brings the classic piano trio format onto vinyl and preserves the elegant balance between compositional clarity and spontaneous interaction.

At the center is Karashima’s precise, lyrical touch, supported here by Isao Suzuki on bass and George Ohtsuka on drums; the three musicians create a dense rhythmic core that leaves room for extended thematic development. The session was produced by Takeshi “Tee” Fujii; the recording date is listed as February 1977, tracked at Epicurus Studio, with Yoshihiko Kannari as recording engineer. This lineup and production setup shape the record’s distinctive sound.

Musically, the trio moves in the tension-filled space between post-bop and lyrical modern jazz: Karashima’s left hand carries much of the harmonic weight, melodic lines occasionally unfold into longer, carefully considered excursions, and select solo passages add subtle accents. The edition places a premium on technical sound quality; mastering and cutting were handled externally, and the vinyl was produced as a heavier pressing to support the recordings’ sonic transparency. The “Gathering” 12-inch thus offers a precisely documented snapshot of an important Japanese pianist in the trio format.

The “Roma” LP by Keith Jarrett is released on ECM and documents his solo concert in the Sala Santa Cecilia in Rome, performed on July 12, 2016. The recording is the fifth and final concert evening of his concluding European solo tour in 2016 and captures the atmosphere of this single, extended live set.

As a live recording, “Roma” presents Jarrett’s improvisational approach in a concentrated form: broad, freely flowing thematic developments alternate with compact, motivically focused passages, while the pianist varies melodic figures and explores the tonal nuances of the grand piano. The LP documents an hour-plus unaccompanied performance in which spontaneous shaping of form and dynamic gradations are essential. In doing so, “Roma” offers a direct insight into Jarrett’s later solo concerts and expands the picture of his concert practice on ECM with a documentary live recording that makes both the acoustics of the Sala Santa Cecilia and the artist’s immediate response to the moment clearly audible.

The “Dawning” LP by Damon Locks & D-Composed is being released on International Anthem, bringing together the Chicago artist’s electronic approach with an improvising chamber ensemble. Damon Locks handles electronics and vocals, while D-Composed features Khelsey Zarraga and Anya Brumfield on violin, Seth Pae on viola, and Lindsey Sharpe on cello.

The album was recorded live in the auditorium of the Land School, home of the Rebuild Foundation in Chicago. The six tracks were created on April 11, 2026, as a joint concert by Locks and D-Composed, who work there as creative partners. Their music combines live sampling, rhythmic thinking, and spoken word with a fluid string sound that shifts between delicate tensions, pulsing grooves, and dissonant buildups.

“Dawning (On Us)” begins with a lone cello and the audible sounds of the room before samples from earlier D-Composed performances expand the piece. In “We Stay Beginning,” a slow, looped beat meets Locks’ voice and the violinists’ processed vocal passages. “Reflecting (On Us)” develops a dark cello motif into an increasingly droning soundscape. Pauli The PSM performs on vibraphone on “Jet Black Ink,” while Monique Golding lends her voice to “Don’t Recede.” With this release, International Anthem presents a precisely documented encounter between jazz, electronic sound processing, and Black chamber music.

Released on Ten Lovers Music, the 12" “The Coin EP Volume 4” is a split release by Shaka and Takahiro Fuchigami and continues the series in a concise four-track format. On the A-side, Shaka contributes the track “From West to South,” bringing in Michael Berry on additional keys and Martin Cappi on flute; the arrangement balances jazzy harmony and melodic horn parts with a pronounced focus on groove, so the cut showcases both structured solos and a sustained, rhythmic flow.

The AA-side belongs to Takahiro Fuchigami, who contributes three shorter, rhythmically adept pieces with “Rhythm Section,” “Sliding Window,” and “Sparkling Fate.” These tracks link syncopated, broken beat-leaning patterns with accented keyboard and percussion arrangements, foregrounding the intersection of jazz/fusion and electronically driven dance forms. Overall, the “The Coin EP Volume 4” 12" on Ten Lovers Music offers a precisely produced, stylistically focused release that continues the series’ thematic through line and clearly brings out the compositional signatures of both artists.

The "Tomorrow" 12" by Hideo Ichikawa is released on Three Blind Mice and brings back into focus the piano trio works that were originally recorded for the legendary Three Blind Mice label. This edition is part of the Three Blind Mice Premium Reissue series and presents the recordings with carefully prepared pressing details.

Musically, the material moves along the border between post-bop and contemporary jazz: Ichikawa’s playing combines technical clarity with a pronounced melodic sense, while the trio format leaves room for dense interaction and dynamic arrangements. The compositions range from contemplative ballads to open improvisation, with harmonic subtleties and finely honed rhythmic work shaping the pianist’s style.

The 12" brings together, among others, the pieces "234" ~Out Of The Boundless Verdant Land~, "Between The Lights", "Birds, My Birds ~ Rest Your Wings...Fly Away In The Sky Again~ and the title track "Tomorrow", all of which are characteristic of Ichikawa’s lyrical compositional approach. The original credits include producer Takeshi Fujii and recording engineer Yoshihiko Kannari; the artwork and design follow TBM’s 1970s aesthetic.

With this release, a striking chapter of Japanese jazz history is documented: the balance between instrumental virtuosity and compositional clarity makes the record a relevant testament to Ichikawa’s work and a rewarding addition for lovers of the piano trio repertoire.

The “Live At Birdland” LP by John Coltrane is released on Impulse and presented in the Acoustic Sounds Series as a carefully prepared reissue. The edition is based on the original analog master tapes and explicitly names the series, which makes the edition designation “Acoustic Sounds” part of the product context. This Impulse release brings the legendary concert material back into focus and combines historic live recordings with studio tracks in a cohesive album format.

The album documents Coltrane’s classic quartet with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums, and combines three live recordings from Birdland (October 8, 1963) with two studio tracks from Van Gelder Studios (November 18, 1963). Musically, the selection ranges from the powerful live rendition of “Afro-Blue” and the haunting ballad “I Want to Talk About You” to the solemn, intimate tone poem “Alabama.” The reissue benefits sonically from mastering by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and is sourced from the original analog tapes. This selection makes the artistic range of the quartet session apparent and situates “Live At Birdland” within the continuity of Coltrane’s most important Impulse releases.

“The Third World-Underground” by Dollar Brand / Don Cherry / Carlos Ward documents the legendary encounter of the three musicians, now made internationally available for the first time. Wewantsounds is reissuing the live performance, recorded in 1972 at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen, on LP; the edition features fully remastered audio, the original Japanese artwork, and a four-page booklet with new bilingual liner notes by Jacques Denis.

Musically, the recording fuses classic jazz with pronounced South African rhythms and worldwide influences. Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand) contributes his characteristic, melody-driven piano work, Don Cherry adds his nomadically inflected trumpet lines, and Carlos Ward rounds out the sound with powerful alto playing and percussive elements; together they create an open, improvisation-centered dialogue that links traditional forms with global textures. Voices and vocal elements appear as additional layers, keeping the immediacy of the live setting clearly audible.

The release represents an important chapter in the discographies of all involved and offers researchers as well as collectors an authentic document of the period in which jazz became increasingly intertwined with Afro and world music. Issued on LP, the edition is aimed at listeners interested in historically significant live documents and in the intersection between jazz tradition and a global sonic language.

Trumpet player Freddie Hubbard's fusion jazz on Red Clay is something that the younger generations within jazz and hip hop admire and aspire to. The title track "Red Clay" was sampled by both A Tribe Called Quest on "Jazz (We've Got)" and Freestyle Fellowship in "Parkbench People", only to be covered by today's new vocal jazz singer José James.

It would take half a day to explain the intricacies of a song like "The Intrepid Fox". Red Clay seamlessly blends bop with soul jazz and fusion in a way that will remain unsurpassed for a long time. Red Clay was Hubbard's first album on CTI Records, after his long stint with Blue Note Records. Accompanying Freddie on this album are Joe Henderson (sax), Herbie Hancock (piano), Ron Carter (bass) and Lenny White (drums). The album was produced by Creed Taylor and recorded and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder in his legendary studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

Red Clay is available on black vinyl.

The "When A Man Loves A Woman" 12" by Takashi Mizuhashi is released on Three Blind Mice and documents a live session from 1974, newly issued as part of a premium reissue. The release brings together a selection from Mizuhashi’s early work and presents the pieces in an immediate concert setting that emphasizes the character of the instrumental interpretations.

At the center is the title track, an interpretation of the soul classic "When A Man Loves A Woman," complemented by an extended version of Miles Davis’s "So What" and the track "Sugar" on the B-side. The arrangements move between jazz, soul jazz, and contemporary improvisation; Mizuhashi’s bass playing acts as both melodic and rhythmic backbone, giving the pieces a warm, well-defined foundation.

Key contributors are Yoshio Otomo on alto saxophone and Fumio Karashima on piano, with Hideo Sekine on drums. For the track "Sugar," Seiichi Nakamura (tenor sax) and Shigeharu Mukai expand the ensemble, lending the recording additional horn-driven bite. The edition has been remastered for the vinyl format; the pressing uses heavyweight 180-gram vinyl and the mastering/cutting was handled by Warner Music.

As Mizuhashi’s first album as a bandleader, the release captures an early high point of his career and underscores his ability to translate popular melodies into a jazz-oriented vocabulary. The production focuses on playing dynamics and sonic presence, making the record a historically and musically compelling window into the Japanese jazz scene of the 1970s.

The "Peace And Blessings" LP by Nat Birchall is released on Na-Bi and presents itself as a deliberate, personal chapter in the saxophonist’s body of work. Here Birchall presents his own engagement with Nyabinghi music, connecting the spiritual impulses of that tradition with his many years of work as a jazz musician.

In his liner notes Birchall points to early formative influences such as Count Ossie’s "Grounation" and Cedric "IM" Brooks; these encounters led him to a deeper engagement with Jamaican ritual rhythms and Afrocentric themes. On "Peace And Blessings" he therefore draws on instrumental colors that come directly out of that experience: his original fascination with African drums is audible, and the Mexican gourd maracas he acquired are explicitly featured on the recording. Birchall frames the release as his own take on Nyabinghi music, putting his saxophone at the center while percussive elements provide the spiritual foundation. The Na-Bi LP is thus not an exercise in nostalgia but a reflective continuation of a personal evolution in which jazz traditions intersect with Caribbean rhythmic structures and meditative modes of expression.

A raw, groove-driven selection of previously overlooked 1990s recordings by legendary Turkish jazz impresario Okay Temiz, compiled here for the first time.

As the story goes, throughout the 1990s, Okay Temiz roamed the nights of İstanbul in search of rhythm — moving through its far corners, from the seedy underbelly to gypsy neighborhoods, from the outskirts of the city to smoke-filled taverns where cigarette haze turns into a living cloud atlas — capturing a largely unknown and maverick period of his work.

Compiled by long-time producers Haluk Damar and Erinç Güzel, the album brings together Turkish folk textures, İstanbul tavern sound, spiritual jazz, raw street groove, and flashes of Turkish psychedelia — with moments shaped by Temiz’s own distinctive vocals. The result is a deep, percussive, and highly playable set.

Positioned between global jazz, rare groove, and dancefloor material, İstanbul Groove is a strong crossover release with appeal across both listening and DJ set contexts.

The album "La La Lu" by the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio was released on King Japan as an LP and brings together a selection of distinctive takes on melodies from film and musical theater as well as traditional lullabies and standards. The arrangements remain true to the piano-trio format: clear melodic lines, economical accompaniment, and room for pianistic refinements define the sound. Striking is the delicate balance between swing elements and a restrained, almost narrative delivery.

Tsuyoshi Yamamoto on piano is at the center of the recordings; the interplay with Yoshio Suzuki on bass and Yas Okayama on drums provides a precise yet communicative foundation. The selection ranges from well-known film themes to gentle ballads, with the trio takes repeatedly weaving in subtle harmonic turns and rhythmic nuances. This creates an approach that appeals both to lovers of classic standards and to listeners with a soft spot for melodic jazz arrangements.

What particularly characterizes the project is Yamamoto's unmistakable touch: a combination of elegant legato, understated drama, and a pronounced feel for melodic phrasing. The LP on King Japan documents this aesthetic in clean takes and without superfluous effects, which makes these recordings an exemplary instance of understated yet expertly crafted piano-trio jazz.

The “All Right!” 12" by Isao Suzuki is issued on Three Blind Mice and presents material that documents Suzuki as a bandleader and is connected to his time with Three Blind Mice.

Musically, the program operates in the tension between modern jazz and fusion-inflected colors: the compositions combine acoustic bass with dense electric textures, soulful melodies, and occasional vocal interjections. Characteristic elements include expansive themes, blues-tinged passages, and room for improvisational development; the track list includes, among others, “Nemuro,” “Time After Time,” “Mami's Blues,” “Basin Street Blue,” and the title track “All Right!”.

Suzuki himself is responsible for much of the sonic variety, contributing bass as well as additional instrumentation; in addition, renowned fellow musicians are involved, including Kazumi Watanabe on guitar and Akira Okazawa and Shinji Mori in the rhythm section, giving the recording its dense, dynamic structure. The available reissues and editions emphasize the historical value of the sessions and highlight the spiritual and bluesy moments of the title track.

The LP “Exploding In Slow Motion: The Complete Channel The Spirits Recordings 2013–2017CE” by The Comet Is Coming on Leaf brings together the early recordings of the London trio featuring Danalogue The Conqueror, Betamax Killer, and King Shabaka. At its center is “Channel The Spirits,” the group’s debut album, supplemented by material from its formative period and additional recordings through 2017. The release demonstrates how closely the band combines jazz, electronic sound design, and psychedelic energy.

The Comet Is Coming develops these elements into a cosmic sound shaped by driving rhythms, powerful synthesizers, and expressive saxophone. Sun Ra, Funkadelic, and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop are cited as reference points, although their experimental approaches do not define the sound. Instead, they serve as starting points for an independent, contemporary musical language. Tracks such as “Space Carnival,” “Star Exploding In Slow Motion,” and “Final Eclipse” illustrate the range between pulsating grooves, improvisational openness, and a futuristic atmosphere.

The lineup combines Shabaka Hutchings’ saxophone with Dan Leavers’ synthesizers and Maxwell Hallett’s drums. Guest contributions from Joshua Idehen expand select tracks with spoken word and vocal elements. The early tracks “Neon Baby,” “Do The Milky Way,” and “Cosmic Serpent” are also part of the documented repertoire from this period. Leaf presents a comprehensive LP edition that traces The Comet Is Coming’s emergence in a cohesive collection.

The LP “Sunshower” by Kohsuke Mine, released on East Wind and distributed by Universal, combines jazzy improvisation with pronounced rock and funk elements. Recorded in 1976, the album captures the character of 1970s Japanese jazz and successfully translates electric sounds and rhythmic finesse to the vinyl format.

Kohsuke Mine opts for a high-contrast lineup: his saxophone, at times treated with a wah effect, and Mikio Masuda’s psychedelia‑tinged keyboards are especially striking, complemented by guitar, bass, drums, and additional percussion. Tracks such as “We Got Our Dance,” the title piece “Sunshower,” and the reflective “Expectation” shift between driving grooves and floating melodicism, placing the record somewhere between fusion, jazz‑funk, and contemporary groove.

Kohsuke Mine, a tenor saxophonist with a strong background in collective playing, brings a keen sense of lyrical lines and expressive articulation; his solos remain clear in tone while remaining open to electric experimentation reminiscent of Miles Davis’s electric periods. The arrangements and the band’s lineup make “Sunshower” an exemplary document of Japanese jazz fusion of that era and a rewarding reference point for listeners seeking organic improvisation paired with up‑to‑date grooves.

The Yellow Vinyl edition of the “Rain Music” LP by Duval Timothy and Carlos Niño was released on Carrying Colour. The 180 g opaque yellow pressing comes with a reverse board outer sleeve, printed inner sleeve, and shrinkwrap, and includes both the vinyl and digital download and streaming access. The physical format and packaging details emphasize the tactile nature of the edition without resorting to elaborate descriptions of production quality.

“Rain Music” documents a series of clearly defined sessions: the first prepared piano and percussion duets were recorded on a rainy day in London, then further developed between London and Topanga, bringing together contributions from guests such as Nate Mercereau, Navy Blue, Laraaji, and Aaron Shaw. On selected pieces, Duval Timothy adds additional piano and keyboard tracks, while Carlos Niño contributes drums, gongs, and sound design; one piece (track 4) remains a pure duet. Among the tracks highlighted as examples are “assata’s rain” and “beautiful, tender, colours” featuring Navy Blue, which illustrate the album-defining interplay between prepared piano work and finely woven percussion. The album sequence is by Carlos Niño, and the artwork is by Orusy. This edition condenses the collaboration between the two protagonists into a compact format and translates the small, textural details of their joint work into a tangible release.

The record is offered as 140 g black vinyl in a matte jacket with OBI strip; the physical release is scheduled for October 23, 2026, and will be accompanied by a digital edition.

Musically, “Animative” brings together compact compositions with a broad instrumentation: Johnson himself can be heard on saxophone, bass clarinet, synthesizer, Rhodes, and additional keyboards. Production is handled jointly by Josh Johnson and Paul Bryan, who also contributes recording and mixing; mastering was done by Dave Cooley. Guests include Meshell Ndegeocello (bass on “High Step”), Marquis Hill (trumpet on “Upstairs 2021”), Macie Stewart (violin), as well as several drummers, among them Ben Lumsdaine on “Reece.” Individual tracks such as “Reece” and “High Step” already offer a glimpse into the album’s textured, rhythmically precise work. “Animative” combines sophisticated arrangements with electronic and acoustic density and appears on International Anthem as a carefully appointed LP edition.

The "Illusion Suite" LP by the Stanley Cowell Trio is released on ECM as part of the Luminessence series, bringing back Cowell's sole recording for the label in a reworked vinyl edition. The album documents the pianist in a trio with Stanley Clarke on bass and Jimmy Hopps on drums, consistently revealing the breadth of Cowell's compositional voice.

Recorded in November 1972 at Sound Ideas Studio, New York, the release comprises six Cowell originals that span a wide stylistic range: the polytonal ballad "Emil Danenberg," the driving post-bop tune "Cal Massey," and the rhythmically adept funk number "Miss Viki" form the core of the program. Cowell moves between acoustic piano, electric piano, and thumb piano; additional overdubs of Stanley Clarke's bowed bass expand the soundscape and lend the arrangements unexpected layers of depth.

This Luminessence reissue appears as an LP in a tip-on gatefold jacket, complemented by new liner notes by Ethan Iverson and an archival photograph that underscores the session's historical context. "Illusion Suite" on ECM thus offers, both musically and in its visual presentation, a focused reappraisal of an early Cowell masterpiece.

1964 was one of the most momentous years in the musical life of Wayne Shorter. Early in the year the saxophonist was still a member of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, appearing on classic Blue Note albums like "Free for All" and "Indestructible." Shorter made his own auspicious label debut that spring with "Night Dreamer" and quickly recorded the impressive follow-up "JuJu."
That summer he joined the Miles Davis Quintet, cementing a line-up that would become one of the seminal bands in jazz history. And when Shorter entered Van Gelder Studio with Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Elvin Jones on Christmas Eve 1964 they created a masterpiece with "Speak No Evil," a transcendent set of six Shorter originals including the swinging title track, "Witch Hunt," and sublime ballad "Infant Eyes."

Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Stone Flower” LP is being released by Music On Vinyl, bringing the Brazilian composer’s 1970 album back into the spotlight. The recordings were made in early 1970 at Van Gelder Studios; the album was produced by Creed Taylor and arranged and conducted by Eumir Deodato. The sessions featured musicians including Ron Carter (double bass), Airto Moreira (percussion), Joe Farrell (saxophone), Hubert Laws (flute), João Palma (drums), and Harry Lookofsky (violin). The repertoire includes “Tereza My Love,” “Children’s Games,” and the title track, “Stone Flower,” among others.

Eumir Deodato’s arrangements combine traditional bossa harmonies with jazzier, partly electric textures; the use of electric piano (Fender Rhodes) is documented on portions of the recording, giving the album a subtle fusion edge. Deodato is responsible not only for the arrangements and conducting, but also appears among the instrumental lineups. The Music On Vinyl edition emphasizes the original session lineups and Creed Taylor’s production approach, which shapes the interplay between the rhythm section, horns, and orchestral flourishes. For fans of Jobim, bossa, and jazz fusion, the “Stone Flower” LP on Music On Vinyl offers a carefully presented edition of these landmark recordings.

Released on Brownswood, Jazztronik’s “Samurai Remixes” 12" presents a focused collection of remix takes on the track “Samurai,” which has been regarded as a defining motif in Jazztronik’s work ever since its original release. Jazztronik, the project of Japanese producer Ryota Nozaki, combines jazz-based instrumental work with electronic beats; that blend remains central on the Brownswood release as well, with the remixes transferring the characteristic piano motif into different arrangements and re-accentuating the rhythmic layers.

On the “Samurai Remixes” 12", variations on the original move into the foreground: the production offers both more stripped-back and more densely layered takes that expose the melodic core of the piece while simultaneously playing with modern fusion and dance elements. In doing so, Brownswood continues its tradition of shedding new light on established compositions in a remix context and creating space for both electronic and acoustic refinements. The release directs attention to the structural strength of “Samurai” and demonstrates how a central theme can gain in clarity and complexity through different production approaches. In this way, Jazztronik remains, on the Brownswood 12", a connecting link between jazz aesthetics and contemporary remix culture.

The compilation brings together studio and selected live recordings, including pieces that can also be found on groundbreaking albums such as “’Round About Midnight,” “Milestones” and “Kind of Blue,” and expands the familiar repertoire with alternate takes and concert recordings.

The 10" Foot In The Door by Onward International was released on the London label Jazz Room as a limited 10" 45 RPM three-track maxi single. With it, Jazz Room brings back a long-sought recording whose title track has been regarded for decades as a defining floor-filler of the acid jazz and Brit-funk scene. The opening horn figure of the track feels like a siren call to the dance floor and explains why Foot In The Door has turned up on compilations and been widely bootlegged.

On this release, the band documents a session that dates back to the era of Sade’s Diamond Life and was recorded by the crème of the London session scene; many of these musicians later appeared on Working Week’s debut. Alongside the title track, Jazz Room highlights the rhythmic side of the EP: Samba Doo Bonnay follows with an Airto-inspired batucada beat, blending Brazilian grooves with a British funk approach, while Roberto Pla rounds things off with the instrumental 21st Floor Mambo, emphasizing the Latin American influences in the production. Jazz Room’s presentation of the 10" brings this slice of British jazz and fusion history back into the spotlight and makes Foot In The Door readily available again to both collectors and DJs.

Conceived as an international collage project, the album brings together numerous guest MCs from around the world; among others, it features appearances by Franky Bones, AWON, Jah Digga, Kid Abstrakt, BluntOne, Capriisun, and INQ. All tracks were produced by Jazzbois themselves, with selected cuts additionally co-produced (among others) by Franky Bones, FAKT, MrSlipz, and BluntOne, while mixing and mastering were handled jointly by Tamás Czirják and the band. The editorial orientation of the material follows a direct appreciation of live hip-hop and beat culture and emphasizes the connection between improvised instrumentation and MC performance.

Musically, the album is grounded in the core trio: Bencze Molnár on keys, sampling, and editing; Viktor Sági on bass, guitar, and sampling; and Tamás Czirják on drums and drum sampling, together delivering rhythmic grooves and organic arrangements. The artwork was created by Roland Herczkó, printing was handled by Lobotworks, and the physical release is handled by UP MUSIC. The “Jazzbois Around The World” LP documents the intersection between a live-driven jazz approach and contemporary U.S. hip-hop flow, placing the focus on collaborative MC contributions within dense, beat-oriented arrangements.

The “Jazz Report from the Hood” LP by Omasta is released on Astigmatic and is now available as a repress. The debut of the young Kraków-based quintet documents a collectively written language of arrangements that translates street textures and everyday impressions into compact instrumental pieces.

Omasta combines dense drums and deep bass with off-kilter beat elements and a clear affinity for live-instrumental hip-hop; references to J Dilla and Madlib are part of the sonic foundation, alongside nods to Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, and Lonnie Liston Smith. “Jazz Report from the Hood” is built around concise motifs and groove-oriented horn arrangements that shift between jazzy improvisation and funky rhythms, without blurring the band’s Polish roots.

The lineup features Bruno Sikorski on piano and Rhodes, Antoni Blumhoff on soprano sax and flute, Paweł Kowalik on trumpet, Wojciech Roman on bass, and Nikodem Wikieł on drums. The recordings were made at Studio Pasterka in Warsaw; mixing and mastering were handled by Eprom, with production led by Łukasz Wojciechowski. Before the release, Omasta had already drawn attention with sold-out concerts and club gigs across Europe, including shows at Ronnie Scott’s and The Jazz Cafe, further underscoring the live energy captured on this LP.

MPS and De-Phazz – two musical institutions. Based in southern Germany, at home all over the world. belooped brings together what has drawn hipsters to dance floors from Hamburg to Miami for decades. On one side, the playful lounge sound of De-Phazz, launched in 1997 by Pit Baumgartner. On the other, the archive of MPS, founded in 1968 by Hans-Georg Brunner-Schwer, revered by DJs and rare groove hunters. Old meets new, digital meets analogue – what remains is a unique atmosphere and a shared sense for grooves and melodies. For Baumgartner, it was a “ticket to paradise” to access over 500 recordings from Germany’s first jazz label, featuring stars like Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, George Duke and Monty Alexander. Recorded with exceptional equipment, often in Brunner-Schwer’s villa, where live concerts were captured in an intimate setting. Having used MPS samples before, Baumgartner now officially reworks these gems. Rather than remixes, he calls them restorations – like a vintage car given polish and new energy. His goal: to make the music shine again and reach audiences beyond jazz circles. “Loop your idols” instead of “Kill your idols” sums up Baumgartner’s approach – honoring musical heroes by giving them a future. In the finale, It feels as if Baumgartner and Brunner-Schwer shake hands across time – a meeting that sounds both natural and timeless.

The 3-CD set *The Tiberi Tapes* brings together previously unreleased live recordings made by saxophonist Frank Tiberi between 1960 and 1964 at clubs in New York and Philadelphia. For more than six decades, the tapes remained largely unheard. They document Coltrane alongside his legendary collaborators during one of the most exciting phases of his artistic development. These are not conventional concert recordings—their archival sound bears witness to the adventurous circumstances of their creation. At the same time, they bring listeners remarkably close to Coltrane onstage: searching, experimenting and continually pushing his music forward. For the jazz world, this release is an extraordinary event!

The “Someone Else” LP by Raphael Meleteas is being released on Veego Records and presents the title track as the first single from his debut album, which will be released on September 25, 2026. Meleteas wrote, arranged, performed, recorded, and mixed the track entirely by himself; every instrument you hear was played by him. The recording was made in Athens and follows an organic approach in which warm, analog textures, cinematic arrangements, and carefully layered instrumentation matter more than technical studio perfection.

At the intersection of jazz and fusion, “Someone Else” draws on the traditions of late-1960s and 1970s orchestral pop and library music, combining intimate songwriting with understated orchestration and unfolding through live performance rather than digital construction. The production emphasizes melodic clarity and subtle details: layered horns, restrained strings, organic rhythm sections, and delicate harmonic shifts create a timeless, personal atmosphere. With this release, Veego Records offers an early, precise glimpse into Raphael Meleteas’ compositional range, with the single both setting the mood for the full album and functioning as a self-contained track in its own right. As a single, “Someone Else” conveys a clear sense of Meleteas’ focus on analog sound palettes and nuanced arranging.

The “Hits Different” LP by Omasta is released on Astigmatic and presents the Polish band in an expanded jazz context built on acoustic instruments and contemporary rhythms. Omasta brings together piano, trumpet, woodwinds, electric bass, and drums, relying both on melodic ideas and on dense, rhythmically intricate structures. The band’s instrumentation is crucial to the record’s tone color: expressive brass meets precise keyboard work and a percussive, articulated bass foundation.

Musically, “Hits Different” links organic jazz lines with influences from beat culture and modern improvisation; passages with sustained melodic development alternate with more dynamic, groove-oriented moments. Solo sections are used sparingly but effectively, keeping melody and ensemble playing at the forefront. Previously released tracks such as “Pillow Talk” already hinted at the balance between airy harmony and hard-hitting pulse that defines the album. Overall, the “Hits Different” LP on Astigmatic stands as a carefully arranged contribution to the contemporary jazz and fusion landscape, one that makes both compositional subtleties and the energy of live performance clearly audible.

The "Soul Symphony" LP by The Three Sounds was released on Blue Note and marks the trio’s final studio chapter, with the group working here alongside a large orchestra and sophisticated arrangements.

At the center is Gene Harris’s warm piano playing, steeped in blues and gospel, which carries the soul jazz–typical melodicism and the trio’s drive. Around his trio work, Monk Higgins weaves dense orchestral scores that give strings, horns, and percussion space without overwhelming the trio’s clear identity. The result is a blend of grooving soul jazz, rhythmic elegance, and orchestral richness; tempo changes and catchy motifs constantly introduce new momentum.

Musically, the record shows how the trio, in the late 1960s, opened up to expanded forms of expression: Higgins served as arranger and conductor and wrote or co-wrote key pieces, while Henry Franklin and Carl Burnett laid down the rhythmic foundation. The production combines craftsmanship and precision with accessible melodies, making "Soul Symphony" a documented example of the intersection between jazz trio and orchestral soul aesthetics.

The "Whatchu Bringing?" LP by Dinner Party is being released on Empire and continues the collaboration of the quartet of Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder. The album is the third official project from the ensemble, which has made a name for itself since its 2020 formation through a tightly woven blend of jazz, soul, and hip-hop. The lineup brings together musical virtuosity and a palpable live chemistry that defines the group's sound.

Musically, "Whatchu Bringing?" moves between warm Rhodes textures, elegant horn arrangements, and organic grooves; the arrangements and solos leave room for improvisation without losing sight of structures that serve the songs. Producer 9th Wonder is once again involved in a central role, allowing a loop-oriented hip-hop aesthetic to meet a more open jazz aesthetic. The already announced lead single "If It Ain't Broke (Love Wins)" hints at the balance between accessible melody and instrumental density.

The release of "Whatchu Bringing?" comes on the heels of an intense period for co-founder Terrace Martin: his collaboration with Kenyon Dixon, "Come As You Are," and the single "WeMaj" (feat. Rapsody) received 2026 Grammy nominations, and the early part of 2026 for Martin was shaped by a four-part album series that serves as a building block for the project "Love Is Louder Than Algorithms." Against this backdrop, the new Dinner Party record feels like the natural continuation of a body of work that places community, joy, and stylistic openness at its center.

The six-LP set documents concerts by the Sextet, Quintet, and Prism lineups and appears to coincide with Holland’s 80th birthday; the collection focuses on live material that showcases the breadth of his compositional and ensemble-based work.

Musically, Freedom Call includes recordings from the programs Sextet: Unity, Quintet: Synergism, and Prism: Freedom and features Antonio Hart, Alex Sipiagin, Robin Eubanks, Mulgrew Miller, Chris Potter, Steve Nelson, Kevin Eubanks, Craig Taborn, and Eric Harland alongside Holland on bass. The six LPs are spread across three gatefold double-vinyl sets and come housed in a foil-stamped presentation box; a 3-CD edition is planned in parallel. This edition offers a focused insight into Holland’s work between acoustic chamber-style settings and electrically inflected ensemble formations, making the documented live moments accessible in a collected format for the first time.
