Official version manufactured and distributed by Secondtrack.

Freudian is the debut studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, originally released on August 25, 2017, through his independent label Golden Child Recordings. Widely regarded as his breakthrough project, the album established Caesar as one of the leading voices in contemporary R&B by blending neo-soul, gospel, jazz, and alternative R&B with deeply personal songwriting. Inspired by the psychological theories of Sigmund Freud, Freudian explores the complexities of love, intimacy, vulnerability, faith, and self-discovery, presenting relationships as both emotionally transformative and deeply flawed.

Created over several years following the release of his early EPs, Freudian reflects Daniel Caesar's experiences with romance, spirituality, and personal growth. Raised in a deeply religious household, Caesar often writes about the tension between sacred and secular love, weaving biblical imagery together with honest reflections on desire, commitment, and emotional uncertainty. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the album unfolds as a series of intimate conversations that examine the many stages of a relationship—from infatuation and devotion to conflict, forgiveness, and acceptance.

Musically, Freudian is defined by warm, organic production built around live instrumentation, soulful harmonies, gospel-inspired vocal arrangements, and understated R&B grooves. Longtime collaborators Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett played a central role in shaping the album's sound, which draws influence from classic soul, jazz, folk, and contemporary R&B while remaining minimalist and emotionally driven. The result is a timeless record that places Caesar's expressive vocals and introspective lyrics at the forefront.

The album features guest appearances from H.E.R., Kali Uchis, Syd, Charlotte Day Wilson, and fellow Toronto artist Sean Leon. Standout tracks include "Get You" featuring Kali Uchis, which became Daniel Caesar's first major international hit and introduced his music to a global audience. Other highlights include "Best Part" featuring H.E.R., an intimate acoustic duet that won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance in 2019, as well as fan favorites such as "Japanese Denim," "Blessed," "We Find Love," "Transform," and the closing track "Freudian." Each song contributes to the album's overarching themes of emotional honesty, devotion, and personal reflection.

Upon its release, Freudian received widespread critical acclaim for its songwriting, vocal performances, and cohesive artistic vision. The album earned Daniel Caesar two Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Album, while "Best Part" secured his first Grammy win. It also helped redefine contemporary R&B by reintroducing live instrumentation and gospel influences into a genre increasingly dominated by electronic production. Today, Freudian is considered one of the defining R&B albums of the late 2010s and remains Daniel Caesar's most influential work, praised for its emotional depth, timeless sound, and lasting impact on modern soul music.

Limited edition of 300 copies on khaki vinyl, available exclusively at HHV.

The double LP "Here Because Of Hope HHV Exclusive Khaki Vinyl Edition," released on Partisan, presents Ezra Collective in an expansive, conceptual framework that weaves traditional jazz forms together with Afrobeat, funk, and Caribbean rhythms. The album focuses on clear arrangements and production clarity that bring out the ensemble’s vibrant sound and allow the tracks to be heard as a cohesive whole.

Characteristic for Ezra Collective is the collaborative working process and interplay of the five-piece lineup: distinctive horn lines meet precise grooves, warm keyboard tones, and a rhythmic foundation that allows for both improvisational freedom and tight cohesion. This interplay between arrangement and spontaneous energy defines the character of the recordings and underscores the band’s roots in London’s vibrant jazz scene.

Key features of the release include the integration of guest vocalists and spoken passages that structure the album thematically and address questions of diaspora, community, and hope; announced contributions include Pa Salieu, Lila Iké, Leona Lewis, and Libianca, among others. In this way, the edition promises to broaden the band’s existing palette by incorporating vocal elements and spoken word into their instrumental fabric.

The “Take Me With You” 7" by Lyn Christopher and Tyrone & Carr is released as a split single on Dynamite Cuts, bringing together two recordings of the same soul classic. Lyn Christopher’s A-side is based on the original American version from 1973, whose deep bassline and smooth groove form the core of the track. Her distinctive voice gives the song a sensual yet powerful presence. “Take Me With You” is one of the best-known recordings in Christopher’s catalog and was later sampled by hip-hop artists as well.

The B-side features the British version by Tyrone & Carr, which was released the same year on Jam Records, an imprint of DJM. The 7" thus places two contemporary takes on the song side by side, highlighting its character from different perspectives. Dynamite Cuts’ release brings both versions together in an official compilation and presents them in the classic 7" format with the corresponding cover artwork. Through its 7" releases, Dynamite Cuts focuses on selected funk, soul, and rare groove recordings, bringing them back in faithful miniature sleeves.

CASE STUDY 01 is the second studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, released on June 28, 2019, through his independent label Golden Child Recordings. Following the critical and commercial success of Freudian (2017), the album represents a significant artistic evolution, expanding both Caesar's sound and lyrical scope. While Freudian focused primarily on love, relationships, and spirituality, CASE STUDY 01 turns inward, exploring themes of identity, fame, philosophy, mortality, and the search for meaning. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, psychedelic soul, and alternative R&B, the album showcases a more experimental and introspective approach.

The title CASE STUDY 01 reflects Caesar's intention to examine his own thoughts, emotions, and experiences as though they were part of a personal experiment. The album opens with "Entropy," which features a quote from physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and introduces ideas of chaos, impermanence, and the unpredictable nature of life. Throughout the record, Daniel Caesar combines philosophical reflections with deeply personal songwriting, creating a project that feels more conceptual and exploratory than its predecessor.

Musically, CASE STUDY 01 broadens Caesar's sonic palette. Longtime collaborators Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett returned as producers, alongside contributions from Boi-1da, River Tiber, and The Neptunes. The album blends soulful melodies, jazz-influenced harmonies, gospel-inspired vocals, and atmospheric production with modern R&B textures. Guest appearances from Brandy, Pharrell Williams, John Mayer, Sean Leon, and Jacob Collier add further depth and stylistic diversity to the project.

Among the standout tracks is "Love Again" featuring Brandy, a heartfelt duet about heartbreak and the possibility of reconciliation that later earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance. Other highlights include "Cyanide," which incorporates reggae influences, "Superposition," featuring guitar work by John Mayer, and "Frontal Lobe Muzik," a collaboration with Pharrell Williams that embraces a more experimental sound. Songs such as "Open Up," "Too Deep to Turn Back," and "Are You OK?" further explore vulnerability, emotional healing, and self-reflection.

Upon its release, CASE STUDY 01 received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Daniel Caesar's willingness to push beyond the boundaries of traditional R&B and expand his artistic vision. While some viewed the album as less immediate and cohesive than Freudian, it has since come to be appreciated as an ambitious and deeply personal work. Today, CASE STUDY 01 stands as an important chapter in Daniel Caesar's artistic journey, bridging the gap between the intimate soul of Freudian and the broader, genre-blending approach of his later album Never Enough (2023).

After the acclaimed Bar Mediterraneo, Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina return with People Of The Moon, expanding their sound into a space of creative freedom. The “People of the Moon” are not fictional, but a dimension within us all: a deeply personal yet universal force, an alternative mindset that emerges when freed from social constraints.

Under moonlight, the album explores anxieties and aspirations through groove and rhythm, expressed in Neapolitan, Arabic, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. It moves fluidly from Afro-Cuban influences in “Celavì” to Anatolian textures in “Ma Tu Che Bbuò”, blending highlife guitars with Nu Genea’s signature mandolins-new rhythms filtered through an Italian lens.

The first single “Sciallà” (2025) introduced this direction: dance as catharsis, not escape. The title track reflects a quiet resilience-persistent rather than triumphant. “Onenon”, featuring Tom Misch, channels Mediterranean brit-funk, while “Acelera”, with María José Llergo, evokes a flamenco-tinged pursuit of the unattainable.

“Puleza” recalls Nuova Napoli with driving energy and vintage synths, while “Shway Shway”, sung by Celinatique, captures the album’s orbital flow-measured, rich, and rhythmically complex, echoing afrobeat explorations with Tony Allen.

Melody remains central, as in “Carè”. Across ten tracks, falling, flying, and dancing merge in a suspended groove. Gabriel Prado’s “Ondas Do Mar” embodies this pull: a cyclical motion, like the tides—irresistible, transformative, and alive within us.

3nd pressing with new OBI.

A new classic of contemporary Japanese spiritual/modal jazz is born.
Here unfolds a stunning soundscape painted with overflowing emotion and a quiet, powerful inner energy.
“Fukushima,” the new album by Tokyo-based saxophonist and flutist SINSUKE FUJIEDA and his group, is simply remarkable.
Performed by a first-rate sextet active across different scenes, the music recalls the cool, deeply atmospheric sound of 1970s modal and spiritual jazz, while weaving in subtle elements of classical, world, and East Asian musical traditions.
The modal jazz piece “Fukushima (edit)” is led by flowing, luminous piano phrases;
“Float in Oriental Spring (edit)” evokes an oriental beauty with a faintly sensual glow;
“Silent Night (edit)” stands out with its tight rhythm and supple bass-driven groove;
the classical-leaning “Nobody Knows (edit)” blends elegant strings with soprano saxophone in a gorgeous interplay;
and “Perspective” unfolds as a sharp-edged spiritual jazz tune propelled by vivid percussion.
With instantly memorable melodies, a cool and coherent musical vision, and masterful arrangements and performances, this album is a true gem.

A masterpiece of jazz rock by true master Jiro Inagaki.
Beyond jazz rock.
What Soul Media, led by Jiro Inagaki, ultimately arrived at was a tight, cool, and ultimate groove.

As Inagaki himself has stated that he “played black funk” on this album, the explosive jazz-rock foundation he had cultivated up to that point is fused with the stickiness, elasticity, and physicality of black music—elevating his musical vision to an entirely new dimension. Combined with the masterful arrangements of Hiromasa Suzuki, the groove is polished to a high sheen, growing richer, more fluid, and subtly seductive.
Every track stands out: the vibrant, driving energy of “Painted Paradise”; the coexistence of funkiness and mellowness on “Breeze”; and the low-slung, razor-sharp cover of Kool & The Gang’s “Funky Stuff”.
Now regarded as a definitive classic, this album remains in constant demand from listeners around the world.
Text by Yusuke Ogawa (UNIVERSOUNDS / DEEP JAZZ REALITY)

Casiopea’s “Mint Jams” LP, released by Sony Music Japan, brings one of the most distinctive documents in the band’s history back into focus. Originally released in 1982, the album features seven tracks explicitly described as the band’s “best performances,” captured live in a concert hall. The selection showcases Casiopea’s ability to combine complex rhythmic structures and precise melodic phrasing in compact arrangements, while the live setting conveys the musicians’ joy of playing and tight interplay in an immediate way.

For this LP reissue, the material was remastered for vinyl cutting; the cut was made by Bernie Grundman, giving the live recording a clearly defined sonic presence. With this edition, Sony Music Japan places emphasis on faithfully reproducing the original live performance and once again positions “Mint Jams” as a landmark within the band’s jazz/fusion catalog. For listeners seeking Casiopea’s live energy, the “Mint Jams” LP offers a concentrated snapshot that clearly highlights both the group’s compositional refinement and technical virtuosity.

Released on Jazzman, the compilation “Spiritual Jazz 19 - West Coast USA Pt. 2: 70s & 80s” explores the spiritual, modal, and Afrocentric currents that emerged on the U.S. West Coast in the 1970s and 1980s. The collection shines a light on places and labels where alternative, often independent productions flourished, documenting the coexistence of Cool and West Coast aesthetics with a searching, spiritual approach to jazz.

At the core of the release is a programmatic selection of tracks that reflect influences from the counterculture, new religious practices, and the political climate of those years—for example, the Black Panthers. Jazzman situates the compilation within the “Spiritual Jazz” series and emphasizes the role of small labels and local scenes that fostered experimental forms with expanded rhythm and melody. Musically, the contributions range from meditative modal pieces to approaches shaped by gospel and African rhythms.

The edition is released as a double LP, providing room for a wide-ranging sequence that maps out the spectrum of West Coast spiritual jazz production in the 1970s and 1980s. For listeners looking to discover these lesser-known chapters of jazz history, the compilation offers a focused, fact-based overview.

For al.so, space is the place. The exciting new quartet of Berlin and London’s most creative improvisers delivers a debut EP portunes that luxuriates in the spacious rural landscape in which it was created and the intuitive freedom found between a first-time meeting of musicians. “This project is the record of four of us coming together and delving into emotions and atmospherics without a clear goal,” al.so keyboardist Moses Yoofee says. “We were exploring space rather than locking anything into a rhythmic or grid structure. All of it is the product of being in the same room together, being free to follow where the music takes us.” First brought together as part of a curated opening lineup for the 2022 edition of Berlin’s Xjazz Festival, al.so is German Jazz Prize-winning co-founder of the Moses Yoofee Trio, Moses Yoofee, harpist, Floating Pointscollaborator and co-founder of jazz trio Flur, Miriam Adefris, Berlin saxophonist and member of underground collective Sonic Interventions, Marius Max, and modular synthesiser expert and collaborator with Philip Glass and Patti Smith, Robert Henriques. Realising their common musical language and capacity for freeform improvised explorations following their show at Berlin’s Emmauskirche, the quartet decamped to Robert’s family home in Gloucestershire, England in October of the same year to experiment on record.

The Pastel Pink vinyl edition of the "Access All Areas" LP by Karate Boogaloo has been released on Colemine.

Hailing from Melbourne, Karate Boogaloo stand for a confident rendition of classic small‑combo funk and instrumental soul traditions. Their tracks weave propulsive grooves together with cinematic melodies and a pronounced boogaloo influence; the band cites Booker T & The MG’s as well as The Meters as reference points and works without a focus on vocals. Instead, Hammond organ tones, distinctive basslines, and striking guitar figures are front and center.

The group writes and produces their music independently; more recent releases credit the band as producers of their recordings. Their recording approach and mix are shaped by live performance and an immediate joy in playing: individual tracks were recorded live and deliberately captured in a raw manner, sometimes on simple four‑track systems, in order to preserve dynamics and spontaneity.

The pastel pink pressing turns "Access All Areas" into a visible statement of their aesthetic direction, which combines warm analog sound with contemporary arranging sensibilities. Listeners can expect an album that oscillates between danceable funk narrative and atmospheric instrumental work, distilling the characteristic Karate Boogaloo sound into compact, cleanly structured tracks.

Pilgrim's Paradise is Daniel Caesar's second EP, released independently on November 12, 2015. While Freudian (2017) became his commercial breakthrough, Pilgrim's Paradise is widely considered the project that established his artistic identity. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, folk, and jazz influences, the seven-track EP introduced the intimate songwriting, spiritual themes, and emotionally rich vocal performances that would later define his career.

The EP was created during a formative period in Caesar's life as he reflected on faith, love, identity, and personal growth. Growing up in a deeply religious household, he often found himself navigating the tension between spirituality and human desire, a theme that runs throughout the project. Rather than presenting straightforward love songs, Pilgrim's Paradise explores vulnerability, loneliness, redemption, and the search for inner peace. Its title reflects the idea of life as a spiritual journey, with "pilgrimage" serving as a metaphor for self-discovery and emotional healing.

Musically, the EP is understated and organic. Built around warm piano, subtle guitar arrangements, sparse percussion, and layered harmonies, the production creates an intimate atmosphere that allows Caesar's expressive vocals to take center stage. Frequent collaborators Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans helped shape the project's sound, while Toronto jazz collective BADBADNOTGOOD appears on "Paradise" alongside Sean Leon, adding a richer instrumental texture.

Among the standout tracks, "Death & Taxes" examines the inevitability of hardship and the desire for purpose, while "Paradise" reflects on the tension between temptation and salvation. "Streetcar," a reimagining of Kanye West's "Street Lights" from 808s & Heartbreak, has become one of Caesar's most beloved songs, transforming the original into a soulful, acoustic meditation on change, loss, and acceptance. The EP closes with "Little Rowboat," a gentle and hopeful conclusion that reinforces the themes of perseverance and emotional resilience.

Although Pilgrim's Paradise was released independently and received limited mainstream attention at first, it earned widespread critical praise and helped Daniel Caesar build a devoted following through word of mouth and streaming platforms. The project was longlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize, and songs such as "Streetcar" and "Paradise" remain fan favorites. More importantly, the EP laid the artistic foundation for Freudian, which would propel Caesar to international recognition two years later.

"Hijos Del Sol" by Hermanos Gutiérrez is released as an LP on Discos G and brings together ten instrumental pieces that move between concise melodic arcs and more extended atmospheric passages. The selection ranges from compact tracks such as "Railroad Vista" to eponymous arrangements, with the record maintaining a unified dramatic arc and placing instrumental storytelling at the center.

Musically, "Hijos Del Sol" fuses Latin American guitar roots with Western and Southwestern hues; lap‑steel‑like textures, rhythmic percussion, and interwoven guitar lines shape the sound. Characteristic of Hermanos Gutiérrez is the seamless interlocking of two guitar parts that are coordinated melodically and rhythmically to such an extent that lead lines and accompaniment feel inseparable. This combination gives the pieces a narrative quality without relying on vocals.

Behind the project are the brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez, whose biographical background and travel impressions from Mexico and the American Southwest provide essential source material for the compositions. The release has been made available through their own label, Discos G; the brothers are responsible for the arrangements and instrumental realization, giving the record a clear, distinctive artistic signature.

The compilation *Spiritual Jazz 19 - West Coast USA Pt.1: 50s & 60s* is being released on Jazzman as a double LP and brings together early traces of spiritual, modal-inflected, West Coast–oriented jazz from the 1950s and 1960s. The collection focuses on pieces that emerged outside the mainstream and document the atmospheric diversity of the regional scene.

West Coast jazz is presented here not just as the cool, sharply contoured style of the fifties, but as an open field in which modal-harmonic experimentation, Afro-centered influences, and spiritual approaches merge. Jazzman places the compilation within the cultural context of Los Angeles’ Central Avenue, the spirit of change of the 1960s, and the era’s political as well as religious currents, including Black Power movements and new spiritual currents. At the same time, independent U.S. labels come into focus as engines for unconventional sonic ideas.

The program of this first volume includes, among others, recordings by Chico Hamilton, Victor Feldman, Les McCann, Buddy Collette, Curtis Amy, Harold Land, and Charles Lloyd, ranging from chamber-style formations to more open, modal-tinged ensembles. The selection emphasizes stylistic breadth and historical relevance: well-known names meet lesser-known rarities, making the compilation a focused survey of that creative period on the U.S. West Coast.

The “Music Is Invisible (Pentimento Volume Three)” LP by Jon Hassell was released on Ndeya and forms the third part of the Pentimento trilogy. Recorded on May 23, 2015, at St John at Hackney Church in London during Hassell’s final live concert, the release documents the joint performance with Rick Cox and John von Seggern.

Themes, motifs, and striking riffs from Hassell’s previous albums “Listening To Pictures” and “Seeing Through Sound” run through the recordings and are reshaped in semi-improvised variations. The pieces balance composed passages and freer development, with the chamber-like spatial acoustics of the church recording contributing to the sonic architecture. Jon Hassell and his long-time companion Jeff Rona carefully mixed and edited the material. Their mix preserves the performance’s dynamics and brings improvisational details clearly to the fore.

As an LP on Ndeya, “Music Is Invisible (Pentimento Volume Three)” sits stylistically in the realm of jazz/fusion and concludes the renaissance of the Pentimento series in the late phase of Hassell’s career. The release focuses on the development of his final works and gathers thematically related approaches into a concentrated live document. It presents the thematic threads of his late albums as focused live takes on them.

The "Di Melo" LP by Di Melo is being released on Tamba. This 180-gram limited edition pressing puts the artist’s legendary debut back in the spotlight.

Recorded in 1975, the album fuses Brazilian rhythms with funk, soul, and a touch of psychedelia; short, incisive songs such as "Kilario" and "A Vida Em Seus Metodos Diz Calma" reveal a striking melodic density and remarkable vocal versatility. Stylistically, Di Melo moves between MPB tradition and urban Black music, with arrangements that leave space for delicate horn and guitar lines while at the same time being driven by tightly focused grooves.

For this reissue, the original insert with lyrics and rare family photos has been reproduced; in addition, the expanded credits list, for the first time, all the musicians involved by name. Among the contributors are, among others, Hermeto Pascoal and guitarist Heraldo do Monte, underscoring both the musical breadth and the meticulous craftsmanship of the recordings. As such, this re-release offers not only a sonic but also a documentary reappraisal of this important chapter in Brazilian music.

Q.A.S.B. bring their background in modern soul and funk to the table; the band regularly works with acoustic and horn-driven arrangements that combine vocal warmth and instrumental finesse. Their contribution gives the version additional organic character and positions the A-side between retro soul and contemporary club aesthetics.

The title refers to the classic “Carolina, Carol Bela” theme by Jorge Ben/Toquinho, which for decades has served as a source for remixes and sample-based takes and has thus also gained recognition in the electronic scene. DJ Koco takes up this tradition and translates the melodic legacy into a 7"-friendly format that speaks to DJs and listeners alike.

The "Come Back Home (Again)" 7" by Al Kent With The Disco Love Orchestra is released on Big Love and presents a deliberately focused new recording of one of his best-known tracks. Al Kent, respected on the scene as an influential collector and producer, leads his Disco Love Orchestra into an arranging language that recalls the orchestral, Philadelphia-inflected dancefloor arrangements of the 1970s; driving basslines, shimmering string sections, and punchy horn figures form the musical foundation, while powerful soul vocals carry the central melodic backbone.

The release comprises two parts — "Come Back Home (Again) Pt1" and "Pt2" — and is offered on 7" vinyl; the compact single format stays true to the song material without unnecessary excess. With this edition, Big Love delivers a precise, dancefloor-focused version in which Al Kent reimagined forgotten gems of the disco tradition while at the same time connecting modern strains of boogie with classic arrangements. The release is scheduled for October 16, 2026, and is aimed at listeners who appreciate sophisticated, vocal-driven dance productions.

Limited edition of 300 copies on grey marbled vinyl, available exclusively at HHV.

The “Drift” LP by Noah X Petter is released on the Berlin label Leiter and marks the debut of the duo of bassist and producer Petter Eldh and drummer Noah Fürbringer. Six short compositions, each just under three minutes long, work with sampling, improvisational moments, and studio-focused reduction; as a result, the album develops the punch of a mixtape aesthetic without sacrificing compositional density. Musically, “Drift” moves between jazz and fusion, weaving in pointed hip-hop impulses and electronic textures into precise grooves.

Production and performance are handled entirely by Fürbringer and Eldh; all tracks are written, performed, and produced by the two of them. On “DEEP NOTE,” Talib Kweli appears as a guest with a freestyle verse, a clear highlight of the record. Recording took place at Koma Industries; mixing was done by oh.no.ty, mastering by Zino Mikorey, and the vinyl cut by Andreas Kauffelt. The artwork features a photograph by Manic Cinema, and the layout was designed by Studio Torsten Posselt. “Drift” offers on the Leiter label a compact, precisely crafted introduction to the Noah X Petter project, translating the intersection of jazz, beat culture, and electronic sound work into small, focused forms.

Since the release of his critically acclaimed debut full length, 2023’s Come Around and Love Me, Jalen’s career has undergone a meteoric rise. The track “If You Don’t Want My Love” went viral, garnering 253 million streams to date. Jalen has appeared on a number of major television programmes, including The Graham Norton Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Later with Jools Holland. He opened for Thee Sacred Souls on their national US tour, and has sold out countless club dates across the globe as a headliner. Now, in 2026, with the embers of his debut still burning brightly, Jalen prepares to release his eagerly awaited sophomore album, Doctrine of Love. The hard work and relentless touring behind his debut have fortified his craft. His message: “The doctrine of love holds that every thought and action should be guided first by compassion for others, because love is the highest measure of human worth.” The tracks on the forthcoming album are born from this creed. With his deep knowledge and love of classic soul, Jalen delivers authenticity in abundance. Doctrine of Love blends pop sensibility and soulful melodies with raw grit and groove, expanding on the orchestral arrangements of Come Around and Love Me with flourishes of horns and gospel-kissed backing vocals, creating a highly stylish example of modern soul artistry.

The “Live at Real World Studios” LP by Alfa Mist is being released on Sekito and showcases the studio session the artist recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios. With this release, Sekito is making available a performance that was initially viewable exclusively on YouTube but is now officially presented as an album; the format documents live-in-the-studio takes on pieces from the concept album “Roulette,” emphasizing direct interaction rather than studio perfection.

On a musical level, Alfa Mist strips back the arrangements without abandoning the narrative threads of his compositions: familiar melodies open up into extended improvisations, rhythmic shifts remain organic and create space for solo passages. The band is made up of long-standing collaborators — Kaya Thomas-Dyke on bass, Jamie Houghton on drums, Jamie Leeming on guitar, Johnny Woodham (JSPHYNX) on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Samuel Rapley on saxophone and bass clarinet — and, taking advantage of the way sound unfolds in the studio, they create a dense yet airy atmosphere. Sekito has assembled the session including two alternative takes (among them “Found You” and “Roulette”), so that the “Live at Real World Studios” LP traces both Alfa Mist’s conceptual depth and his band’s spontaneity. For listeners who want to immerse themselves more deeply in the world of “Roulette,” this Sekito release offers a focused, directly performed companion to the studio album.

The “O Mensageiro” 7-inch by Trio Ternura is released on Vampisoul and brings together two recordings by the Brazilian family trio that had previously appeared only as singles. The A-side features the title track, a fast-paced, catchy number with a pronounced feel for rhythm and immediate impact. The B-side features “Razão De Ser” from 1972, whose Brazilian sonic colors, soul influences, and distinctive vocal harmonies define the special character of this release.

Trio Ternura consisted of three siblings and developed a style of its own between Brazilian pop music, soul, and artfully arranged choral vocals. The interplay between the voices gives “Razão De Ser” its melodic depth, while “O Mensageiro,” with its lively tempo and memorable hook, is clearly aimed at the dance floor. Both tracks were among the recordings that did not appear on the LPs released at the time.

Vampisoul is reissuing the material on 7-inch for the first time and has both tracks playing at 45 rpm. As a result, “O Mensageiro” places a lesser-known yet musically incredibly characteristic side of Trio Ternura at the center. The release combines Brazilian rhythms, soulful warmth, and layered vocals into a focused portrait of the trio from the early 1970s.

The lilac vinyl edition of the “Thats What Friends Are For / Thats The Way I Like It” 7" by Madeline Bell was released by Dynamite Cuts and brings two strong soul tracks together on 7" vinyl for the first time. Madeline Bell is at the center here; with this release, Dynamite Cuts presents a compact selection from her repertoire that appeals to both collectors and fans of classic funk/soul gems.

Both cuts are taken from her LP “This Is One Girl” and showcase different facets of her voice. “Thats What Friends Are For,” co-written with Alan Parker, appears here as a sensually driven, club‑oriented version with a pronounced Latin swing, propelled by driving percussion and warm horn arrangements. The flip side, “Thats The Way I Like It,” rounds out the release as another soul banger and highlights the quality of the backing band, which featured top‑tier English musicians. For this 7" edition, Dynamite Cuts has reissued both tracks, making them available in a compact single format with clear, refined edition markings.

Lush green landscapes, dazzling clear streams, a crystalline sky, and snow that falls without a sound—
these are the beautiful scenes woven into Scenery, created by Ryo Fukui, the renowned pianist born in Hokkaido. Here, they live on forever.

His fresh, delicate playing has captivated countless listeners, and his debut album Scenery has come to be highly acclaimed around the world. Fukui, who began playing the piano at the age of 22, recorded this album when he was just 28. The earnest passion of his youth resonates throughout the music, gently stirring the emotions of those who listen. The spacious, confident swing of “It Could Happen To You”, the refreshing joy radiating from “Early Summer”, the late autumn coolness imbued in the title track “Scenery” each embodies the uniquely expansive yet nuanced “Hokkaido sensibility” that flowed naturally from Fukui’s artistry.
Within this album, the beautiful landscapes that Ryo Fukui crafted his Scenery continue to breathe eternally.

The compilation “Soundcity Joburg - South Africa's Township Soul” is released by Analog Africa as a double LP in a gatefold sleeve. It focuses on Johannesburg’s township soul scene between 1969 and 1981, when South African musicians combined influences from American soul and funk with local rhythms, jazz, reggae, disco and Afrobeat.

The 22 tracks demonstrate how distinctive this musical language became in the townships. Beat Set opens and closes the compilation with “I Dig Soul,” while Dudu And The Big Time Boys bridge the gap between soul groove and danceable rhythms on “How Long?” and “Can You Feel It.” “Take It” by Philemon Hamole And Abafana Besimanje, “Crazy Baby” by Phillip Mallela With J.B. Express and “Swing Africa” by Reggie Msomi & His Jazz Africa are also among the defining moments of this selection.

Analog Africa connects the music with the history of its creation and supplements the double LP with a 16-page, magazine-style booklet. It features rare photographs, historical newspaper clippings, biographies and other archival materials. The editorial work was produced with the participation of Volkan Kaya, Samy Ben Redjeb and Sam Mathe; Michael Graves handled the mastering, while Jordan McLeod was responsible for the restoration. In this way, “Soundcity Joburg - South Africa's Township Soul” paints a multifaceted portrait of that South African sound world, which developed its own distinct form from international influences and local traditions.

The “Darkest Light” 7-inch by Lafayette Afro-Rock Band, released on Strut, brings two essential tracks by the influential group together on a single for the first time. At the center is “Darkest Light,” whose distinctive opening with saxophone and horns became a defining motif in hip-hop history. The track originally appeared on the album “Malik” and was sampled by artists including Jay-Z, Public Enemy and Wreckx-N-Effect.

On the flip side is “Hihache,” a key track from “Soul Makossa.” Its expansive drum break became an important foundation of the burgeoning hip-hop culture in the 1980s and is particularly well known from Biz Markie’s “Nobody Beats The Biz.” Both recordings showcase the rhythmic precision and hard-hitting Afro-funk that first brought Lafayette Afro-Rock Band attention in Paris during the 1970s.

“Darkest Light” thus brings together two distinct classics: The title track is driven by its instantly recognizable horn figure, while “Hihache” is defined by its distinctive drum break. On this 7-inch, Strut pairs two particularly influential contributions from Lafayette Afro-Rock Band’s repertoire, recordings that remain closely connected to the development of sample-based hip-hop production.

Misha Panfilov’s *Where The Birds Fly* LP is released on Funk Night and features six compositions that weave an airy, jazzy fusion of woodwinds, lap steel guitars, and warm keyboard passages. In addition to composing and producing, Panfilov contributes piano, guitar, lap steel, bass, organ, harmonium, Mellotron, and percussion, shaping the dense soundscape on which solos and arrangements can breathe freely. Ilja Gussarov contributes flute, tenor saxophone, and clarinet, while Volodja Brodsky provides the vibraphone coloring. The rhythm section, with Leonid Galaganov on drums, holds down the groove, and Sasha Petrov adds to the horn section.

Additional voices and textures emerge on select tracks: Anna Dotsenko’s wordless vocal runs add accents, Tomo Katsurada contributes guitar and cello, and Joe Harvey-Whyte plays pedal steel on one of the tracks. Titles such as “When I See You (It Feels Wonderful)” and “Guided by the Wind” showcase Panfilov’s feel for melodic motifs and sparse yet colorful arrangements. The album was recorded between January and April 2026, with mastering handled by Jukka Sarapää. The cover artwork is by Nathan Hardyman, while the layout was designed by Ilja Tulit. On Funk Night, *Where The Birds Fly* stands as a restrainedly produced instrumental release that documents Misha Panfilov’s affinity for repeating patterns and subtle, organic sound design.

Twenty years after forming in Tommy Brenneck’s apartment in Bushwick, the Menahan Street Band return with *Illusions*, their fourth full-length album, released on Brenneck’s label Diamond West Records. The band – Tommy Brenneck, Dave Guy, Nick Movshon, Leon Michels, and Homer Steinweiss – have each pursued a range of projects in the years since. Brenneck has produced for Baby Rose, Rogê, and Kirby, toured with The Budos Band, and runs Diamond West Records and its studio. Guy plays trumpet with The Roots and on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* and has released his own solo album; Steinweiss has recorded his own solo album and worked with Movshon on several platinum album projects; and Michels continues as El Michels Affair, runs Big Crown Records, and has produced Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated albums for Clairo and Norah Jones. Despite their many individual projects, the group came back together – with an energy that, according to Brenneck, “felt like the first time.” Recorded quickly and instinctively, *Illusions* combines Menahan’s signature guitar, horns, and drums with arrangements by Brazilian legend Arthur Verocai and takes listeners on an instrumental journey that lets the mind wander. Artist Ariana Papademetropoulos provides original artwork for the album’s collection of otherworldly-sounding music.

Between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s, musicians across the Dutch Caribbean islands of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten created music that crossed stylistic boundaries, forming a close-knit network shaped by common histories and identities, while rarely receiving wider recognition. From the psychedelic funk of local stars Sugar Ice Tea and Cryptus Confession to the Latin influences of visiting musicians like Puerto Rican star Mon Rivera via Surinamese-influenced soul and the garage rock of Los Honda, the islands nourished a huge array of styles and talent. Antiyano Progresivo unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly transforming Caribbean. During the twentieth century, oil industries, migration and tourism reshaped the islands, creating unparalleled cultural exchange while deepening social divisions. African, Latin American, North American and European musical traditions intertwined with local forms, producing a rich and distinctive musical landscape. Tambú, tumba, calypso and Caribbean dance music coexisted alongside soul, funk, psychedelic rock, reggae, Latin music and American and British pop. Musicians moved fluidly between these styles, developing sounds that were unmistakably local while remaining connected to wider currents across the Caribbean and beyond. The period also coincided with growing movements for cultural and political self determination. Events such as Curaçao's Trinta di Mei uprising in 1969, the emergence of Black Power movements and increasing calls for greater autonomy fostered renewed pride in African heritage, local languages and cultural expression. These ideas resonated through music, inspiring artists to challenge conventions and create work that reflected changing identities.

The “Gentlewoman” LP by Cleo Sol is released on Forever Living Originals and presents the singer with a new, tightly focused song cycle positioned between funk and soul. Across fifteen tracks—including the opening piano ballad “I Just Look To You,” the title track “Gentlewoman,” and the closing “Gentlewoman (Acknowledgement)”—Cleo Sol introduces a deeply personal perspective that centers on self-care, forgiveness, and spiritual reflection. The production was created in close collaboration with Inflo, whose arranging gives the album dense string textures, choral backdrops, and finely detailed instrumentation.

Musically, “Gentlewoman” ranges from stripped-back piano and acoustic moments to more opulent soul passages; touches of bongos and Latin inflections, as well as harp and string sections, create a palette of contrasting tones. Cleo Sol’s voice remains the constant focal point: restrained, nuanced, and clearly articulated, allowing intimate lyrics about healing and gratitude to breathe. Songs such as “Their Smiles Are Not The Same” and “All Because Of Love” also demonstrate how subtle shifts in the arrangements build into expressive climaxes.

The “Gentlewoman” LP on Forever Living Originals expands Cleo Sol’s already extensive solo work and documents a further stage in the evolution of her compositional voice. It is her fifth solo album. The uncluttered arrangements and focused production give the record an intimate yet orchestral character. The album was released on August 20, 2026.

Mr Bongo proudly presents a reissue of Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo’s masterpiece Dreams. Blending lush, Eastern European-tinged psychedelic jazz with beautiful arrangements by Gary McFarland, its unique, delicate, charming sound has entranced record collectors for years. Originally released in 1968 on Skye Records, it’s quite rightly become a sought-after LP, and here at Mr Bongo, we wanted to reissue as close a replica edition as possible.

Hungarian-born, Szabo left his home country with his family on the eve of the political uprising, and finally settled in California, USA. He went on to attend Berklee College, and in 1961, he joined the fabulous Chico Hamilton's quintet. Szabo’s time with Chico had a supportive influence on the young guitarist and nurtured his individual guitar sound. You can often instantly recognise Szabo playing on a record just by his guitar tone. He would go on to record a whole host of classic records for the iconic record label Impulse!, and worked with many great musicians such as Lena Horne, Charles Earland, Tom Scott, and Coke Escovedo, to name a few. Szabo’s music would years later become a staple sample source in hip hop culture, with acts such as People Under The Stairs, Black Star (Talib Kweli and Mos Def), Diamond D, and many more utilising his work.

Skye Records was set up in 1968 by Norman Schwartz, Gabor Szabo, Cal Tjader, and Gary McFarland, and it was on this label that Dreams was released. Harnessing a mystifying, unique sound that pays homage to Szabo’s Hungarian folk music heritage, Dreams, as its title suggests, has an otherworldly, ethereal feel and a trance-like quality that is deep and meditative. A masterclass in Eastern European folk meets Western psychedelia, all colliding with jazz, the album features a number of tracks penned by Szabo and Gary McFarland, alongside two interpretations of tracks written by the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. Additionally, there is an epic cover version of Donovan’s ‘Ferris Wheel’, which was also released as a 7” single at the time the album came out. Other highlights include ‘Galatea's Guitar’, a cinematic psych-jazz beauty, reminiscent of The Doors in places. The tender ‘Half The Day Is Night’, with its soothing lullaby texture, features Gary McFarland arrangements at full force. The whole recording is solid all the way through, managing to be easy-listening, but never feeling contrived or saccharine. It has a rich underground spirit bubbling in the background, one recorded for times of relaxation rather than rebellion.

Szabo sadly died at the young age of forty-five while visiting his homeland of Budapest. However, he left a legacy through his exceptional music which still enriches listeners today, and will long continue to do so.

The “Gathering” 12-inch by the Fumio Karashima Trio is released on Three Blind Mice and documents the pianist’s second album as a bandleader in a carefully prepared vinyl edition. The release brings the classic piano trio format onto vinyl and preserves the elegant balance between compositional clarity and spontaneous interaction.

At the center is Karashima’s precise, lyrical touch, supported here by Isao Suzuki on bass and George Ohtsuka on drums; the three musicians create a dense rhythmic core that leaves room for extended thematic development. The session was produced by Takeshi “Tee” Fujii; the recording date is listed as February 1977, tracked at Epicurus Studio, with Yoshihiko Kannari as recording engineer. This lineup and production setup shape the record’s distinctive sound.

Musically, the trio moves in the tension-filled space between post-bop and lyrical modern jazz: Karashima’s left hand carries much of the harmonic weight, melodic lines occasionally unfold into longer, carefully considered excursions, and select solo passages add subtle accents. The edition places a premium on technical sound quality; mastering and cutting were handled externally, and the vinyl was produced as a heavier pressing to support the recordings’ sonic transparency. The “Gathering” 12-inch thus offers a precisely documented snapshot of an important Japanese pianist in the trio format.

Repressed due to heaaaaaaaaaavy demand!

In TRAFO, Opek connects his cinematic visions to his love for jazz music, creating a dark and cloudy deep groove soundscape, filled with hallucinations and slivers of time travel. The mostly instrumental album scratches different genres, including spiritual jazz, rare groove, and of course library and 70s film music.

Recorded live in his Cologne studio by a five piece band, Opek pays homage to influences like Wayne Shorter, Soft Machine, David Axelrod and Marc Moulin’s Placebo. The recording setting gives the album tension and vividness on one hand, intimacy and warmth on the other.

The compositions transform old memories into melodies and strive to translate recurrent observations into sound. On TRAFO Opek plays the drums and is accompanied by Caris Hermes on double bass, Elisabeth Waanders on Fender Rhodes, Julius van Rhee on saxophone and Jonathan Böbel on trombone.

Typical Opek-esk sounds make the album a krautjazz experience and let elements of nightly madness dissolve into stimulating curiosity.

The "Toxic Funk Volume 24" 7" by Umbo is released on Breakbeat Paradise and continues the long‑running series with two instantly usable dancefloor cuts. The A‑side features "Got Soul," a groove‑laden funk track driven by punchy drums, springy basslines, and a warm, soulful energy. On the B‑side, "Save It" delivers a rougher funk approach with precise breaks, crisp rhythms, and cleverly chopped vocal bits that mark the track as a true DJ weapon.

Umbo is regarded as one of the original pioneers of the nu‑funk movement; his releases on Good Groove Records and Timewarp have cemented his feel for timeless party tunes. His style is defined by the skillful fusion of classic funk elements with modern breakbeat production: soulful samples are combined with sharp drum patterns and tightly arranged basslines without sacrificing the organic warmth of the source material.

Both cuts are clearly designed for use in the club and in DJ sets, fitting equally well into funk, breaks, nu‑disco, and party‑edit selections. With "Toxic Funk Volume 24," Umbo underlines his consistency as a producer and expands the Breakbeat Paradise catalog with two practical, vocal‑ and groove‑driven tracks made for real‑world play.

On "Ahmad Jamal '73," one of jazz's most acclaimed small-group pianists traded in his most familiar instrument for something with a new spin, recording his first of seven studio works for the 20th Century label from behind the electric piano. Backed by an expanded orchestra arranged and conducted by album co-producer Richard Evans, the ensuing album merges familiar jazz traditions with the sound of a new era, pairing Jamal's leads with massive string, vocal, and horn arrangements on versions of then-current soul-funk hits (Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," War's "The World is a Ghetto") and spiritual jazz and funk numbers ("Sustah, Sustah," "Peace At Last").

The "When A Man Loves A Woman" 12" by Takashi Mizuhashi is released on Three Blind Mice and documents a live session from 1974, newly issued as part of a premium reissue. The release brings together a selection from Mizuhashi’s early work and presents the pieces in an immediate concert setting that emphasizes the character of the instrumental interpretations.

At the center is the title track, an interpretation of the soul classic "When A Man Loves A Woman," complemented by an extended version of Miles Davis’s "So What" and the track "Sugar" on the B-side. The arrangements move between jazz, soul jazz, and contemporary improvisation; Mizuhashi’s bass playing acts as both melodic and rhythmic backbone, giving the pieces a warm, well-defined foundation.

Key contributors are Yoshio Otomo on alto saxophone and Fumio Karashima on piano, with Hideo Sekine on drums. For the track "Sugar," Seiichi Nakamura (tenor sax) and Shigeharu Mukai expand the ensemble, lending the recording additional horn-driven bite. The edition has been remastered for the vinyl format; the pressing uses heavyweight 180-gram vinyl and the mastering/cutting was handled by Warner Music.

As Mizuhashi’s first album as a bandleader, the release captures an early high point of his career and underscores his ability to translate popular melodies into a jazz-oriented vocabulary. The production focuses on playing dynamics and sonic presence, making the record a historically and musically compelling window into the Japanese jazz scene of the 1970s.

The “Here I Am Baby” LP by Lady Jane is released on Athens Of The North and brings singer Jane Brice’s only studio LP back to light after decades. The reissue is based on sessions recorded in the late 1970s at Studio A in Dearborn Heights; tracked with engineer Eric Morgeson and a studio band, the material was largely written by her then husband and was originally issued in 1980 as a private press.

The re-release became possible after a chance discovery in 2022 sparked the idea for a reissue and Brice’s then husband, shortly before his death, returned the original master tapes to her; from these, the rediscovered multitracks and additional previously unreleased material emerged. Newly remastered from those tapes, “Here I Am Baby” documents a singer who moves between soul, funk, and disco, delivering both delicate ballads and driving funk numbers.

Alongside its quieter opening tracks, the record includes raw funk excursions such as “Never Lived In The Ghetto” and “Space Flight”; the closing track, “She’s A Star,” is the only song written by Jane herself and addresses her personal survival story in a direct way. Jane Brice, now an ordained pastor, had withdrawn from the scene for decades; this LP presents her voice in full presence and with surprising openness.

The jade vinyl edition of Surprise Chef’s “Frogs In A Pond” LP is released on Concord.

Surprise Chef, the quartet from Coburg, presents its fifth studio album with “Frogs In A Pond,” recorded in and around its analog studio, College of Knowledge. The Concord release highlights the band’s take on a compact, cinematic approach: over approximately 40 minutes, the album unfolds as a suite that combines elements of jazz/fusion, instrumental jazz-funk, and cinematic color without relying on obvious effects. Previously released tracks such as “Leg Day” and “Outside Voice” offer a clear impression of the balance between driving rhythms and detailed arrangements that defines the album.

The “Frogs In A Pond” LP on Concord stands out with precisely placed horn and keyboard passages, as well as a rhythmic signature that leaves room for restrained groove and dramatic arcs of tension. The jade vinyl edition presents the album in a richly tactile format and focuses attention on the warm, organic sonic character that Surprise Chef has refined over years of playing together. For listeners seeking subtly composed, instrumental-oriented music, “Frogs In A Pond” represents a distinctive entry in Surprise Chef’s body of work and in Concord’s catalog.

Released on Breakbeat Paradise, the "Toxic Funk Volume 25" 7" by Basement Freaks delivers two precisely crafted funk cuts that clearly focus on danceable grooves and practical DJ use. The A-side, "Got That Funky Stuff," unleashes raw party-funk energy with punchy breakbeats, distinctive basslines, and soulful samples, while the B-side, "Life For Dat Sweet Ting," keeps the momentum going with vintage-inspired elements and rolling drums.

Basement Freaks, the project of Greek producer George Fotiadis, has established itself over two decades as a fixture in the international nu-funk and breaks scene. Releases on renowned labels and a constant presence in DJ sets worldwide underline the status of the project; characteristic is the blend of classic funk feel and modern breakbeat craftsmanship.

Both tracks on the "Toxic Funk Volume 25" 7" are clearly tailored for maximum impact in the club and in the record bags of funk and breakbeat selectors: concise grooves, tight drumming, and production that leaves space for samples and basslines. As another entry in the "Toxic Funk" series, the record once again bears the unmistakable Basement Freaks touch and adds two ready-to-use dancefloor weapons to the Breakbeat Paradise repertoire.

The "Alteleyeshegnem" 7-inch by Alemayehu Eshete is released on Philophon and brings together two distinctive tracks from the singer’s collaboration with the label, newly reworked for this edition. On the A-side, the Philophon house band presents the title track as a funky rendition: a driving beat, mystical harmonic textures, and a pumping bassline give this classic new contours.

Alemayehu Eshete is regarded as one of the defining voices of Ethiopia; his vocal style fuses soulful emotion with clear phrasing and a readiness to adapt to U.S. soul trends, making him a central figure in the Ethiopian soul scene. In these renditions, his striking timbre remains the focal point, while the house band’s arrangements create space for modern rhythms and dense horn sequences.

Both tracks were specially remastered for this release to emphasize presence and detail on the 7-inch medium; the collaboration between Alemayehu Eshete and Philophon was initiated by Listros e.V. Berlin with support from the German Federal Cultural Foundation, which situates the record not only musically but also within a broader cultural context.

The "Tomorrow" 12" by Hideo Ichikawa is released on Three Blind Mice and brings back into focus the piano trio works that were originally recorded for the legendary Three Blind Mice label. This edition is part of the Three Blind Mice Premium Reissue series and presents the recordings with carefully prepared pressing details.

Musically, the material moves along the border between post-bop and contemporary jazz: Ichikawa’s playing combines technical clarity with a pronounced melodic sense, while the trio format leaves room for dense interaction and dynamic arrangements. The compositions range from contemplative ballads to open improvisation, with harmonic subtleties and finely honed rhythmic work shaping the pianist’s style.

The 12" brings together, among others, the pieces "234" ~Out Of The Boundless Verdant Land~, "Between The Lights", "Birds, My Birds ~ Rest Your Wings...Fly Away In The Sky Again~ and the title track "Tomorrow", all of which are characteristic of Ichikawa’s lyrical compositional approach. The original credits include producer Takeshi Fujii and recording engineer Yoshihiko Kannari; the artwork and design follow TBM’s 1970s aesthetic.

With this release, a striking chapter of Japanese jazz history is documented: the balance between instrumental virtuosity and compositional clarity makes the record a relevant testament to Ichikawa’s work and a rewarding addition for lovers of the piano trio repertoire.

With "Synonym", Meshell Ndegeocello presents her third album for Blue Note, this time radically reimagining familiar songs. The Grammy-winning bassist, singer, songwriter, and producer has been one of the most influential artists at the intersection of soul, jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop, and the avant-garde for more than three decades. Rather than simply covering classics, she transforms songs spanning six decades of popular music into a distinctive musical universe entirely her own. Each track is conceived as a duet. Joined by guests including Cynthia Erivo, Chaka Khan, Cat Power, Robert Glasper, Brandi Carlile, Lianne La Havas, Moses Sumney, WILLOW, and ANOHNI, Ndegeocello explores themes of love, longing, pain, and self-determination through deeply personal reinterpretations. Produced with David Gamson and Abe Rounds, "Synonym" is far more than a covers album - it is a tribute to great songwriting and a powerful statement on music's ability to connect us.

The “Verve Remixed Nina Simone” LP by Nina Simone is released on Verve and brings together selected renditions of the artist’s classic recordings. The release includes electronic remixes and downtempo reworks of well-known pieces such as “Sinnerman” (Felix da Housecat’s Heavenly House Mix), “Little Girl Blue” (The Postal Service Remix), “Lilac Wine” (The Album Leaf Remix), “I Put A Spell On You” (Pretty Lights Remix), and “Feeling Good” (Joe Claussell Remix). The compilation follows the concept of the Verve Remixed series, in which contemporary producers rework vocal tracks and historical arrangements without sacrificing Simone’s expressive presence.

In contrast to straightforward compilations, the remixes on the “Verve Remixed Nina Simone” LP rely on targeted production interventions: subtle loop figures, additional percussion, and restrained synth textures complement Simone’s piano passages and vocal lines, allowing familiar motifs to be experienced anew within a modern sonic framework. The album documents both key moments from Simone’s repertoire and exemplary approaches within contemporary remix culture, and takes its place in the long-running line of Verve releases that connect historical jazz recordings with contemporary production techniques.

The Frozen Flashes 12" by Okvsho, released on Hip Dozer, documents the Zurich project of brothers Christoph and Georg Kiss in a working method that tightly intertwines live improvisation and studio-based editing. In sessions in Zurich and London, the musicians played together; short, spontaneous moments, rhythms, and textures were captured, then sampled, cut, and arranged into nine carefully sculpted pieces. The result sits somewhere between jazz and fusion and uses the unpredictability of recordings as a compositional principle. Guests such as Azekel, Melodiesinfonie, FloFilz, Tenderlonious, and Hadel contribute individual accents; their contributions add sharp highlights and expand the instrumental palette.

On this 12", Okvsho and Hip Dozer show how fragmentary ideas can ripen into concise themes; brief recordings become starting points for entire tracks that feel both raw and fully worked out. Frozen Flashes is thus less a conventional album in the traditional sense than a collection of moments that puts spontaneity front and center and makes the structural arc between live session and studio work visible.

The "Nakama" LP by Rob Araujo is released on Eulipion Arts and presents a compact 13-track program that links contemporary jazz with electronic textures and hip-hop rhythms. Inspired by influences such as Brad Mehldau and J Dilla, Araujo relies on precise piano work, dense harmonies, and arranging finesse that shifts between acoustic warmth and abstract, beat-driven passages. The album maintains a playful sense of focus, alternating brief, incisive pieces with atmospheric interludes.

A wide cast of contributors appears on "Nakama": Omari Jazz serves as a defining co-producer and guest, while Yuki Hayashi, Jesse Lamar Williams, Chris Wallace, and Shaan Ramaprasad provide distinctive contributions, rounded out by percussion, electronic beats, and additional instrumentation. Tracks like "The Lemon Tree" and "Weather Channel" give a sense of the range between melodic immediacy and rhythmic density. The release is limited to 300 copies on high-quality vinyl, making the studio work of Araujo and his collaborators physically accessible. Eight years after Africa Oscura, Four Flies returns to Giuliano Sorgini’s afro-dark universe with Savana Selvaggia, a collection of previously unreleased music recorded for 1970s television documentaries. A tribute to the Africa that deeply influenced Sorgini, the album blends ancestral percussion, synthesizers, enigmatic melodies, and mystical atmospheres between ethnographic music, psychedelia, and Kraut electronics. From hypnotic jungle soundscapes to the brighter, contemplative mood of tracks like “Wild Life” and “Alba sulla savana”, the record reveals a remarkable sonic range. Its fascination with the animal world and shared palette of Moog, Solina, and drum machines also recalls Zoo Folle, possibly drawing from the same 1974 sessions.

Charles Brackeen’s “Rhythm X” LP was released on Strata East and documents the saxophonist’s debut as a bandleader. Recorded on January 26, 1968, and released in 1973, the album brings together four original compositions with a distinctive free jazz lineup: Don Cherry on trumpet, Charlie Haden on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums. The session was produced by Clifford Jordan.

Brackeen’s tenor saxophone stands at the center of an open, dynamic approach that emphasizes close interaction and spontaneous development. On the title track, “Rhythm X,” and the extended “Hour Glass,” a soundscape takes shape that shifts between angular impulses, lyrical lines, and collective interplay. The participation of Cherry, Haden, and Blackwell points to the New York avant-garde of the era and to an ensemble closely connected to Ornette Coleman’s musical circle.

All of the pieces were written by Charles Brackeen, whose distinctive voice clearly emerges despite the presence of such prominent collaborators. The four musicians treat the compositions not as rigid frameworks but as starting points for fluid dialogues between saxophone, trumpet, bass, and drums. In this way, “Rhythm X” combines the angular energy of free jazz with a pronounced melodic sensibility. Strata East presents a historically significant recording from the label’s early period and a focused portrait of Brackeen’s distinctive musical language.

A close look at the full scope of Masayoshi Takanaka’s legendary concert "rainbow Goblins Story"! This release captures the legendary two-day concert held at Nippon Budokan on March 10 and 11, 1981, the very day and the day after the release of Masayoshi Takanaka’s masterpiece "The Rainbow Goblins." The first part recreates on stage the concept album "The Rainbow Goblins," which Takanaka created based on the inspiration he drew from Italian painter Ul de Rico’s picture book "The Rainbow Goblins," while the second part is made up of Masayoshi Takanaka’s hit songs. Now, for the first time, that full performance sees the light of day as a single audio work.

A huge rainbow neon arch stretched across the stage, with its seven colors lighting up in various patterns in sync with the music. Combined with what was then a state-of-the-art laser show and a mountain-like stack of equipment onstage, it created a fantastical world. The seven musicians appeared wearing costumes in different goblin image colors, while Takanaka, dressed in a yellow jumpsuit with rainbow-colored hair, played a rainbow-colored Yamaha SG. The world of "The Rainbow Goblins" that Masayoshi Takanaka, already at the peak of his popularity as one of Japan’s leading guitarists, brought to life onstage returns now, on its 45th anniversary, with vivid sound. The analog edition consists of three LPs in clear lime yellow, clear red, and clear blue, evoking both the three primary colors of light and the colors of the rainbow Yamaha SG Takanaka played in the first part of the concert. It also comes with a booklet packed with photographs capturing this fantastical stage production created with the latest technology of the time. Mastering and analog cutting were handled by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios London. Liner notes are by Masayoshi Kondo and Yoshinobu Maruyama.

The “Houdini” b/w “Miss Neptune” 7" by Marco Benevento is released on Big Crown and brings together two standout cuts from his album “Glera” as a focused single. On the A-side, “Houdini” leans into jazz fusion–infused energy: punchy drums, an instantly catchy piano motif, and an arrangement density that highlights Benevento’s strengths as both player and producer. Produced by Marco Benevento, the track delivers a compact groove and concise melodic figures; the album version runs about 2:43.

The B-side, “Miss Neptune,” unfolds a laid-back, reggae-tinged atmosphere and clearly stands out thanks to Lizzie Steiner’s harp work; Nick Movshon appears as co-producer and contributes bass and drums. On “Miss Neptune,” harp, bass, and Benevento’s keyboards create a captivating interplay; the longer version clocks in at around 3:13. Both tracks showcase the stylistic range of Marco Benevento and illustrate how Big Crown connects funk and soul elements with jazzy and reggae-inspired textures. As a 7" on Big Crown, the single captures the sonic contrasts between driving funk groove and muted, atmospheric reggae aesthetic.

The “Live At Birdland” LP by John Coltrane is released on Impulse and presented in the Acoustic Sounds Series as a carefully prepared reissue. The edition is based on the original analog master tapes and explicitly names the series, which makes the edition designation “Acoustic Sounds” part of the product context. This Impulse release brings the legendary concert material back into focus and combines historic live recordings with studio tracks in a cohesive album format.

The album documents Coltrane’s classic quartet with McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums, and combines three live recordings from Birdland (October 8, 1963) with two studio tracks from Van Gelder Studios (November 18, 1963). Musically, the selection ranges from the powerful live rendition of “Afro-Blue” and the haunting ballad “I Want to Talk About You” to the solemn, intimate tone poem “Alabama.” The reissue benefits sonically from mastering by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and is sourced from the original analog tapes. This selection makes the artistic range of the quartet session apparent and situates “Live At Birdland” within the continuity of Coltrane’s most important Impulse releases.

With this release, Legofunk relies on stripped-back arrangements and punchy groove reworks that transform the original motifs into bolder shapes suited for clubs and DJ sets. The edition underscores the character of edits without resorting to the usual embellishments and keeps the listening dynamics tight.

The tracklist explicitly showcases the mix of artists: Alexny opens with “Harina De Maiz,” Alkalino contributes “Bate Tambor,” Lego Edit delivers “D.D.B,” and Scruscru closes with “Gold Velvet.” Each rework focuses on rhythmic clarity and danceable structures, while Legofunk curates the selection so that the EP functions as four gems that slot easily into different sets. “Super Disco Edits Brazil Jazz Funk” remains straightforward in its construction, yet offers enough melodic and percussive nuances to reveal new details on repeat plays. For collectors and DJs looking for compact, edit-driven releases, Legofunk has delivered a distinctive statement with this 12".

Like rays of summer sunlight slowly dissolving the morning mist, the contours and crystal-clear figures now emerge more distinctly—the elements that, since joining the label in 2018, have made Ghost Funk Orchestra the groovy, modern psychedelic soul-jazz-boogaloo backbone of Karma Chief Records. The “A Place Between Us Black Vinyl Edition” LP by Okvsho documents a deliberately introspective yet bolder step by the Zurich-based duo Georg and Christoph Kiss and was released as their second LP on March 7, 2024, on the newly founded label Current Moves. Produced by Georg and Christoph Kiss, mixed by Roland Vollenweider, and mastered by Dan Suter, the album combines organic instrumentation with electronic textures; the arrangements rely on warm harmonies and distinctly expressive rhythms that make the evolution of their characteristic style tangible. Guest appearances, for instance by Akira and TRVANIA, provide pointed highlights within the compact tracks and loosen up the album’s structure with contrasting features.

As the first full-length project on Current Moves, “A Place Between Us” also marks a fresh start for the label and the collective around Okvsho; the brothers describe the album as a first step into a new era, carried by gratitude for the support they have received so far. The “Black Vinyl Edition” presents the material in a classic format and brings the compositional precision and subtlety of the production to the fore: short, concise tracks with a cinematic atmosphere that bridge jazz and fusion in a modern, dance-oriented way.

The "Club Da Esquina" LP by Milton Nascimento & Lo Borges was released on Transoceanica and brings together the shared artistic signature of the two musicians in a densely interwoven collection of compositions. The album fuses elements of Brazilian popular music, bossa nova, folk, and early‑1970s musical experimentation, revealing a wide spectrum of melodic invention and harmonic subtlety.

Musically, the work is characterized by delicate guitar lines, sophisticated piano and organ arrangements, and multi-part vocal passages that shift between intimacy and orchestral breadth. Numerous tracks have since become part of the Brazilian music canon, including compositions by Lô Borges as well as joint pieces with lyrics by Márcio Borges and Ronaldo Bastos; the songs range from tender ballads to more complex, jazz‑leaning formats.

The album’s dense sonic design was shaped by renowned collaborators and arrangers: Wagner Tiso and Eumir Deodato were responsible for key arrangements, Paulo Moura took on conducting duties, and instrumentalists such as Toninho Horta, Robertinho Silva, and Luiz Alves contributed decisively to the warm yet refined overall sound with their playing. This lineup and the compositional breadth make the LP an important document of the Clube‑da‑Esquina movement.

1964 was one of the most momentous years in the musical life of Wayne Shorter. Early in the year the saxophonist was still a member of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, appearing on classic Blue Note albums like "Free for All" and "Indestructible." Shorter made his own auspicious label debut that spring with "Night Dreamer" and quickly recorded the impressive follow-up "JuJu."
That summer he joined the Miles Davis Quintet, cementing a line-up that would become one of the seminal bands in jazz history. And when Shorter entered Van Gelder Studio with Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Elvin Jones on Christmas Eve 1964 they created a masterpiece with "Speak No Evil," a transcendent set of six Shorter originals including the swinging title track, "Witch Hunt," and sublime ballad "Infant Eyes."

BLUE NOTE ESSENTIALS - the label’s LP classics for the first time at an uncompromisingly affordable price, without compromise in manufacturing quality. 140g Optimal pressing from hi-res master, single sleeve.

Susana Estrada was one of the muses and main figures from the period known as ‘Transition’ in Spain. No other woman represented better than her the freedom and sexual revolution which the country experienced in the 70s after the end of the dictatorship.

A truly erotic Goddess, Susana was a model, singer and actress and one of the first women to perform fully-naked plays in Spain. She appeared in numerous erotic magazines and movies and her famous sexual counselling column for Play-Lady magazine caused a big commotion at the time. She reached fame with her erotic musical plays like “Historias Del Strip-Tease”, “Muñecas” (where she simulated to have sex with a robot!) or “Machos”.

As a singer, in 1980 Susana released her first 45 for the Belter label from Barcelona: “Machos” / “Acaríciame”. Produced by Josep Lobell and Manuel Gas, it contained two sexy disco tracks which paved the way for her first LP, “Amor y Libertad” (Love and Freedom), released on the Belter sub-label Sauce in 1981. Produced by Cosmic Disco pioneer Josep Llobell (Oliver’s Planet), this is a real fest of 80s Italo Disco, Munich Sound, Boogie, Funk and Modern Soul. The fabulous, minimal production of Llobell collides with the sensual vocals and moanings of Susana, singing about sexual liberation and freedom. Of course, when the album was originally released, nobody understood it. Criminally underrated for many years, “Amor y Libertad” has now become a cult item in the international Cosmic Disco scene.

But in 1980, a strange cassette by Susana called “Machos” was also released on the Belter label. It featured music and songs from the play of the same name. There, we can find “Espacial” (seven minutes of robotic funk and Space Cosmic Disco) and “Hagamos el amor” (“Let’s make love”), another sexadelic funk track much in the vein of the ones included on “Amor y Libertad”.

On this comp, you’ll find the entire “Amor y Libertad” album except the two tracks which were not in a disco / funk vein (“Ven” and “Arena y mar”), plus “Machos” ( a Celi Bee & the Buzzy Bunch cover), “Acaríciame” from the first Belter 45 and two tracks from the “Machos” cassette: “Espacial” and “Hagamos el amor”. We’ve also included a previously unreleased track courtesy of Susana: “Tócame”, recorded in 2007, in a High Energy Euro Disco vein.

Hailing from the breathtaking island of Old Providence, Colombia, Black Diamonds bring a fresh and authentic voice to Caribbean music. Deeply rooted in the Afro-Caribbean traditions of the Raizal community, the band blends the laid-back pulse of reggae with the vibrant energy of calypso, creating a sound that is both timeless and unmistakably their own. Known for their roots reggae sound from Old Providence Island, Black Diamonds take a vibrant detour with "De Seh Seh", an infectious, upbeat calypso anthem that celebrates the Caribbean's rich musical heritage. Bursting with uplifting melodies, irresistible grooves, and the band's signature island spirit, the track reveals a fresh side of the group while staying true to their roots. The release also features a remix by Venezuelan producer and multi-instrumentalist Caribombo, who transforms the song into a dancefloor-ready journey, blending electronic textures with soukous-inspired Afro-house rhythms for a bold, cross-Caribbean reinterpretation.

Cartola’s “Cartola” LP on Tamba presents the late, formative period of one of Brazil’s most important samba composers in a calm, carefully arranged form. The album documents compositions such as “O Mundo É Um Moinho” and “As Rosas Não Falam,” distinguished by sparse guitar accompaniment and a uniquely warm, resonant voice. These songs clearly convey the performer’s lyrical affinity for melancholy and observations of everyday life. The production emphasizes acoustic intimacy: vocals and nylon-string guitar remain at the center throughout, while restrained brass and string passages expand the harmonic framework.

Maestro Horondino Silva (Dino) is responsible for the musical arrangements, joined by guitar contributions from Guinga, among others, as well as Airton Barbosa on bass and Canhoto on cavaquinho; Creusa adds vocal accents on selected tracks. Juarez Barroso served as producer, while Norival Reis oversaw the project and handled the mixing. The “Cartola” LP on Tamba presents this material in a concentrated edition that highlights both Cartola’s compositional caliber and the fine craftsmanship of the accompanying musicians, offering a piece of Brazilian songwriting in a clear, atmospheric presentation.

The “All Right!” 12" by Isao Suzuki is issued on Three Blind Mice and presents material that documents Suzuki as a bandleader and is connected to his time with Three Blind Mice.

Musically, the program operates in the tension between modern jazz and fusion-inflected colors: the compositions combine acoustic bass with dense electric textures, soulful melodies, and occasional vocal interjections. Characteristic elements include expansive themes, blues-tinged passages, and room for improvisational development; the track list includes, among others, “Nemuro,” “Time After Time,” “Mami's Blues,” “Basin Street Blue,” and the title track “All Right!”.

Suzuki himself is responsible for much of the sonic variety, contributing bass as well as additional instrumentation; in addition, renowned fellow musicians are involved, including Kazumi Watanabe on guitar and Akira Okazawa and Shinji Mori in the rhythm section, giving the recording its dense, dynamic structure. The available reissues and editions emphasize the historical value of the sessions and highlight the spiritual and bluesy moments of the title track.

The Twit 1, II, Three are a Cologne-based band made up of producer Twit One, vibraphonist Maxime von Koblinski, and drummer Niklas Schneider (Keshavara). Their first album is being released on Melting Pot Music and features a unique blend of hip-hop, krautrock, tropicalia, spiritual jazz, and ambient.

Twit One has been shaping Cologne’s beat and hip-hop scene for more than 15 years – as a DJ, producer, radio maker, and co-owner of the Groove Attack record store. For Twit, hip-hop is less a genre than an attitude and cultural technique rooted in African American music history. With The Twit 1, II, Three, he’s realizing his sound vision in a band context for the first time, together with classically trained musician Maxime von Koblinski on vibraphone and Niklas Schneider from Cologne kraut-pop band Keshavara on drums. Twit acts as musical director, provides samples and ideas, and sometimes plays bass.

In 2024, The Twit 1, II, Three self-released a C20 cassette limited to 100 copies and played shows at the following venues: Week-End Festival and Soundball Festival (Cologne), Philharmonie Essen, Schleuse Zwei (Düsseldorf), Aktionshaus (Berlin), De Duivel (Amsterdam).

Afterwards they moved into Satori Studio in Cologne-Müngersdorf, where the band spent a year and a half working away on their debut album. The self-titled album will be released in October 2026 and throws the doors wide open: hip-hop, krautrock, tropicalia, spiritual jazz, and ambient form the cornerstones. Twit One, fully produced and played with real instruments, would be the down-to-earth description. Sun Ra & Dilla on their way to Jupiter with a stopover in Montreux would be the more poetic one. 8 out of 10 tracks are instrumental. Guest vocals come from Reginald Omas Mamode IV and Turt (Summers Sons), two longtime musical friends who were invited and who also release on MPM. Artwork by Jeremias Diekmann & Robert Winter.

Limited edition of 200 copies on cherry red colored vinyl, available exclusively at HHV.

The “Sweets” LP by The Winston Brothers is released on Colemine and consistently continues the horn-driven, ’70s-inspired soul aesthetic of the band. Led by multi-instrumentalist and producer Sebastian Nagel and longtime drummer Lucas Kochbeck, a tight, groove-oriented album emerges that openly plays with soundtrack references and deliberately draws on Isaac Hayes, Willie Hutch, Roy Ayers, and J.J. Johnson.

Recorded between the home studios Monoplast and Lion Sound, “Sweets” bears the marks of a carefully considered creation process: during the pandemic, about 80 percent of the drum tracks were laid down before the arrangements were opened up and additional musicians were brought in. Kimo Eiserbeck (saxophone, flute) and Hans Stephan (trumpet) expand the horn section, while Max Whitefield contributes additional drum parts; this gives the tracks organic voices, space, and colorful accents.

Style-wise, the album ranges from driving, “Get On Down”-like workout numbers to the tropically swaying pulses of “Bouncie Meters” and the atmospheric build in “Kitchen Floor.” The “Sweets” LP thus documents an evolution of the group, in which band interplay and freedom in the arrangements come together in equal measure.

The “Don’t You Want Me” 12-inch by Savage, released on Dance On The Beat, presents an official reissue of the 1994 Italo-dance track and brings together the key versions on a single record, including the well-known Ice Original Mix as well as a compact radio version. Savage’s 1994 single ranks among the era’s distinctive Euro/Italo-dance productions; melodic synth hooks and programmed drum patterns shape the arrangements and remain intact in the mixes made available again here.

The Dance On The Beat reissue joins the label’s series of official 12-inch reissues, which has brought back several iconic dance single releases from the 1990s in recent years. Savage’s “Don’t You Want Me” 12-inch brings the track back to DJ sets and collections, foregrounding the original remix variants so that the 1994 production can be heard again in authentic form. With this release, Dance On The Beat focuses on historic club tracks and emphasizes the significance of Savage’s classic to the Italo-dance scene.

New and stunning release on Smiling C limited to 500 copies worldwide. Exclusively available through HHV in Europe.

More than four years in the making, Tiki Shack Recording Studios AKA Smiling C Records & Mike Patricola present Pipe Dreams — a compilation of sidewalk surf bands, tropical troubadours, and soothing sounds from just beyond the reef.

Compiled by Mike Patricola, Pipe Dreams is the culmination of years spent exchanging obscure recordings, pursuing a shared feeling, and uncovering a sub-genre of overlooked songs that could be woven into a story of surf, snorkel, and sun. Drawn from Patricola's collection, the compilation aims to capture the feeling of endless summer, and serves as an ode to the freedom of island living: Bikini-shaped sunburns, coconut stands closed due to perfect swells, slack guitars, perpetual sunsets, guppies darting through shallow water, and afternoons spent face-down in the sand.

Spanning the late 1970s through the mid 1980s, Pipe Dreams gathers forgotten pop, lounge, soft rock, AOR, disco, and private-press oddities into a time capsule that seeks to epitomize an era that existed before life became mediated by screens. One in which technology was more naive and society was less reliant upon it. Time moved slower, people were better able to connect with their surroundings, and the dream of moving to a coastal utopia felt more attainable.

Each side unfolds as its own chapter.

Side A begins with Midwestern lettermen The Sunset Kidds, whose hypnagogic harmonies on “Darlin’” evoke the Beach Boys mired in the post-summer doldrums. Australia's Simplex 2 follow with the previously unreleased “Tiger Bay”, capturing the slow pulse of a perfect beach day through low end groove. Don Moore's infectious “Water Lily” arrives via a romantic Fire Island love affair, while Cay Gottlieb contributes a dose of Bahamian Balearica. To close the side out, Tennessee crooner Ron Holmes delivers an extra dose of salt on the margarita rim for good measure.

Side B shifts into a more upbeat surf-disco and pub-rock mode. Montreal’s Dino Pacifici’s nostalgic ode to carefree summers long passed, followed by Marseille's own The Students "Ocean Lifestyle" — which sits somewhere between Shuggie Otis and The Stranglers. Another Montréalais artist Pierre Rochette delivers a chuggy surf-disco belter, while Special Edition Band ventures from boozy rock into a washed-out paradise with glistening guitars.

Side C serves as an ode to tropical troubadours — intimate songs that range from drum machine lounge to private island bedroom recordings. Japan's Twin Cosmos, actual identical twins, dream up beachfront breezes on "Coconuts Wind." Hawaiian songwriter Dennis Soares offers the delicate and deeply personal "One World," while Ossie Parker Jr. supplies some Bahamian barroom sophistication. Miles Corbin brings sounds straight from the tiki hut, and lounge lizard Glen Banks takes us into the final intermission with a lullaby live from the Coconut Grove.

Side D catches a wave back in. Meri-Lynn & The Key Lime Pie Band celebrate the Florida Key life, Dennis Soares returns for one final Hawaiian postcard, and the Latin band Acapulco contribute a hefty dose of sunny positivity akin to one of Brian Wilson’s cheerier tunes. To round it out, Rick Sharp injects a touch of Bossa cheek and fantasy, and British pub blokes Contrast steer the compilation back toward where it all began — a destination somewhere between a Beach Boy California paradise, a remote oceanside lounge for loners, and a sleazy coastal timeshare.

Pressed on vinyl in a deluxe die-cut, spot-glossed gatefold jacket featuring artwork by our man Charles Bals and cover “Breaking Wave” photo by Lex Thompson. Pipe Dreams is designed as both a listening experience and an object of escape. Drop the needle, lean back, and let the tide carry you away.

Released on Perro Bueno Edits, the 7" “Perro Bueno Edits Volume 8” showcases the next level of Perro Bueno Edits’ creativity while, for the most part, staying true to its established style. The series stands for tight, DJ‑friendly edits that carefully trim and reaccentuate original funk, disco, and Afro grooves without losing the soul of the source recordings. Within a short run time, concise versions emerge that emphasize rhythmic work, a warm bass foundation, and pinpoint brass or percussion details, making them work both in the club and in finely curated sets. Perro Bueno places value on a crate‑digging aesthetic and meticulous edit craftsmanship: melodic fragments are brought to the fore, transitions are optimized for DJ use, and the groove essence is distilled. The release trajectory of the series also shows a preference for limited, colored 7" pressings, giving each installment its own distinct presence in the label’s catalog. Overall, “Perro Bueno Edits Volume 8” remains faithful to the underlying concept and offers a compact, stylistically clear addition to the Perro Bueno Edits series.

The “Dawning” LP by Damon Locks & D-Composed is being released on International Anthem, bringing together the Chicago artist’s electronic approach with an improvising chamber ensemble. Damon Locks handles electronics and vocals, while D-Composed features Khelsey Zarraga and Anya Brumfield on violin, Seth Pae on viola, and Lindsey Sharpe on cello.

The album was recorded live in the auditorium of the Land School, home of the Rebuild Foundation in Chicago. The six tracks were created on April 11, 2026, as a joint concert by Locks and D-Composed, who work there as creative partners. Their music combines live sampling, rhythmic thinking, and spoken word with a fluid string sound that shifts between delicate tensions, pulsing grooves, and dissonant buildups.

“Dawning (On Us)” begins with a lone cello and the audible sounds of the room before samples from earlier D-Composed performances expand the piece. In “We Stay Beginning,” a slow, looped beat meets Locks’ voice and the violinists’ processed vocal passages. “Reflecting (On Us)” develops a dark cello motif into an increasingly droning soundscape. Pauli The PSM performs on vibraphone on “Jet Black Ink,” while Monique Golding lends her voice to “Don’t Recede.” With this release, International Anthem presents a precisely documented encounter between jazz, electronic sound processing, and Black chamber music.

It doesn’t get much more special than this one. The music industry loves throwing around phrases like 'rare as hens' teeth' and 'holy grail', but Ricardo Marrero & The Group’s 1976 album A Taste genuinely earns them. A mythical and elusive release in its original form, for many it’s an unattainable prize in the Discogs wantlist, and one far out of reach financially. Even though it’s already been reissued by other amazing record labels over the years, we really wanted to make a Mr Bongo edition to pay homage to the album’s greatness and to keep this iconic gem in print, and at an affordable price for all.

The scarcity of Ricardo Marrero & The Group's iconic A Taste released in 1976 grew from the foundations of its release on the notorious TSG Records. Run by Lloyd Price, with alleged ties to boxing promoter Don King, TSG was one of the tax scam labels of the 1970s created to exploit a loophole in the US tax system. Such labels would run up inflated production costs and losses that investors or the parent label could write off against their tax bills.

A Taste was never intended to be promoted and distributed properly and was thus lost in the musical ether of this 1970s farce. However, the album is not merely sought-after due to its rarity, it’s an amazing listen throughout. Though categorised as a ‘Latin’ album, it incorporates so much more. It has a warm, boundary-pushing sound and a lush fusion of Latin, jazz-funk, and soul with a cinematic edge; it’s varied yet feels complete as a whole.

One of the crown jewels of the album is the much-loved Latin funk anthem ‘Babalonia’. Different versions of this dancefloor gem have been recorded and released by Marrero on other labels, but this version is a certified monster. The often overlooked ‘Get Yourself Together’ is a real curveball, feeling like it should have been featured on an independent gospel private press - both uplifting and spiritual. Elsewhere, ‘And We'll Make Love’, which was penned by bassist Michael Viñas, radiates with an earthy soul-jazz / rare groove quality. Other highlights include the raw Latin funk dancer ‘Algo’, with the album entering a straighter Latin / Nuyorican realm on ‘Vengo’ and ‘A Taste Of Latin’.

Whether you’re a Latin enthusiast, someone who wants to investigate and dig into the genre for the first time, or someone who just wants an unquestionably great album to listen to, this record has something for everyone. A true classic!

The Freedom Call box set by Dave Holland is being released on Edition Records and for the first time brings together previously unreleased live recordings from three formative ensembles in his career. The six-LP set documents concerts by the Sextet, Quintet, and Prism lineups and appears to coincide with Holland’s 80th birthday; the collection focuses on live material that showcases the breadth of his compositional and ensemble-based work.

Musically, Freedom Call includes recordings from the programs Sextet: Unity, Quintet: Synergism, and Prism: Freedom and features Antonio Hart, Alex Sipiagin, Robin Eubanks, Mulgrew Miller, Chris Potter, Steve Nelson, Kevin Eubanks, Craig Taborn, and Eric Harland alongside Holland on bass. The six LPs are spread across three gatefold double-vinyl sets and come housed in a foil-stamped presentation box; a 3-CD edition is planned in parallel. This edition offers a focused insight into Holland’s work between acoustic chamber-style settings and electrically inflected ensemble formations, making the documented live moments accessible in a collected format for the first time.

The sessions, recorded on August 25, 1957 and February 25, 1958, comprise three extended pieces centered around Jimmy Smith’s Hammond B-3 playing. Alongside Smith, the album features outstanding colleagues including Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, George Coleman, Tina Brooks, Kenny Burrell, Eddie McFadden, and drummers Art Blakey and Donald Bailey. The tracks are sequenced so that the opening “The Sermon” — a long, earthy blues performance — occupies the whole of side 1, while the other side begins with the lively original “J.O.S.” and, with the ballad moment “Flamingo,” particularly spotlights Morgan. For collectors and jazz listeners who value careful reproduction of historical recordings, this Blue Note Tone Poet edition offers a focused new edition of a key work in Jimmy Smith’s oeuvre.

The 7-inch “If I Let You” by The Womack Sisters was released on Daptone and presents the single in the classic 45 rpm format; the A-side features the vocal-led version, while the B-side contains the instrumental version. The release follows the three sisters’ self-titled debut and puts their warm vocal harmonies front and center.

Musically, “If I Let You” is built around a Latin-tinged soul groove: percussive güiro figures, a driving organ motif, and precise drumming form the backbone, while the sisters harmonize in a cool call-and-response style. The arranged horn and rhythm structure gives the track a danceable lightness while leaving room for delicate vocal flourishes. The instrumental version lays bare the rhythmic structure and emphasizes the tightly arranged groove elements of the production.

Bosco Mann serves as producer and is also credited as a songwriter alongside the Womack sisters; the compositions thus bring together the name and producer signature of the Daptone community. The Womack Sisters—Kucha, Zeimani, and BG Womack—consolidate their approach to contemporary retro soul with “If I Let You”: the 7-inch is both a physical collector’s item and part of the digital offering available on Bandcamp and streaming services.

The 7" single "T'chuba T'chiba" by Dulce Neves, released on Hot Casa, presents a single track that already appears on the album "Mundo Rabida" and brings the singer’s warm, earthy voice to the forefront. The single focuses on melody and rhythm, stripping the backing down to pointed percussion and guitar figures, thereby emphasizing the vocalist’s presence.

Dulce Neves draws on a repertoire that shifts between Gumbe, Afro-Zouk, and Afro-Pop; characteristic elements include syncopated rhythms, melting harmonies, and an immediate vocal delivery that connects local traditions with modern arrangements. The artist’s background and roots shape her expression: Neves comes from Mansoa in Guinea-Bissau and is regarded as one of the country’s most distinctive voices, having gained visibility early on in modern groups such as Super Mama Djombo.

Lyrically, "T'chuba T'chiba" incorporates social observations; the lyrics touch on work, everyday life, and the tensions between aspiration and lived reality, delivered in a locally rooted language that conveys authenticity. Hot Casa is releasing the single as part of its worldwide selection of Afro-soul and tropical funk titles, bringing the track to an audience that seeks regional music in an international context.

Killabeatmaker’s “Melaza” 12" is released on Galletas Calientes and blends Afro-house, warm house grooves, electronic jazz, hip-hop and Colombian folklore into a rhythmically diverse project. The producer from Medellín sees the dance floor as a meeting place where organic instruments, hypnotic percussion and electronic production intertwine.

Killabeatmaker remains firmly rooted in his Colombian identity while opening his music to voices and influences from Africa and Latin America. “Damuwa Ta Karé,” featuring Ghanaian singer Zongo Abongo, brings together South American production and West African vocal tradition. Warm percussion, rolling grooves, gentle guitar lines and atmospheric electronic textures give the track a tension that is both reflective and danceable.

The release’s other tracks also demonstrate its stylistic versatility. “Oko Du,” “Vive Con Locura” and “I Like Your Style,” featuring Bleepolar, draw on deep Afro-house, while “Marímbula Bristol” combines electronic jazz tones with musicians from Bristol. “Kundé Mandibulo,” featuring Medellín singer Queen Medina, brings a rougher Afro-hip-hop energy. Hilder Brando Osorno handled programming, synthesizers, mixing and mastering; other contributors include Julián Ramirez, Hal Sutherland, Dave Saunders and Toby Tobón.
