The Donuts Audiophile Edition is lacquer cut at Bernie Grundman and manufactured at Fidelity Record Pressing - 2LP 180g vinyl at 45rpm. Deluxe art printed Stoughton jacket.

Donuts began simply enough - an idea to turn a good demo tape into a full-length album. It would end up being one of the defining works of J Dilla's life. Completed during the year Dilla spent in and out of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and released on his birthday - February 7, 2006, Donuts gained particular poignancy when he died three days later on February 10th.

Following the release of MF DOOM and Madlib’s Madvillainy in 2004, electronic producer Four Tet remixed several tracks from the album. These were released on limited vinyl run in a plain black sleeve in 2005, but have been out of print for many years.
Production note: When MF DOOM was presented with the Four Tet remixes, he sampled an interlude from the set, creating a new beat, and recorded a new rap track of “Rhinestone Cowboy,” effectively remixing the remix.

“This one’s for my mans.” On Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: Dil Cosby & Dil Withers Suite (both originally released as separate LPs in 2008), Madlib pays tribute to late, great friend and collaborator J Dilla with contributions from J. Rocc. 42 soulful, floating instrumentals bid farewell to Jay Dee. Highlights include “The Mystery (Dilla’s Still Here)”, “Anthenagin' (?)” and “Dillalade Ride (Contact High)”.

Madlib's Beat Konducta series goes to India.

Beat Konducta Vol. 3-4: In India is a 2LP made up of Madlib instrumentals inspired by Bollywood soundtracks and other 60s-80s productions from India - over an hour of Madlib flipping sitars and South Asian orchestras. Each volume was separately released in 2007. “Movie Finale” would later appear on Yasiin Bey’s The Ecstatic song “Auditorium” feat. Slick Rick.

Beat Konducta Vol. 1-2: Movie Scenes & Movie Scenes, the Sequel were the first official releases in Madlib's Beat Konducta series (Vol. 1 in late 2005 and Vol. 2 in 2006).

Vol. 1: Movie Scenes and Vol. 2: Movie Scenes, the Sequel are instrumental hip-hop productions by Madlib presented in the style of ‘70s TV and film library records. 35 total scenes directed by Otis - an hour of original soundscapes. Soundpieces: Da Antidote! is the debut album by California hip-hop group Lootpack, consisting of Madlib, Wildchild, and DJ Romes, released on June 29, 1999 via Stones Throw Records. It is widely regarded as a cornerstone of late-1990s underground hip-hop and a landmark in Madlib’s career, marking his first full-length production showcase. Lootpack emerged from Oxnard, California, a creative hub that also produced artists like Oh No, MED, and Declaime—all of whom appear as guests on this record.

The sound of Soundpieces: Da Antidote! is defined by dusty samples, jazz and funk fragments, intricate drum programming, and a warm, analog atmosphere. Madlib’s production relies heavily on layered sample collages and vintage drum breaks, complemented by DJ Romes’ scratches and cuts, while Wildchild delivers sharp, rhythmically precise rhymes. Lyrically, the album focuses on classic hip-hop themes: preserving authenticity, battling weak MCs, and celebrating the art of “crate diggin’,” the practice of searching through vinyl bins for rare samples. The track “Crate Diggin’” itself pays direct homage to that tradition and has become one of Lootpack’s signature cuts.

The album contains 21 tracks with a total running time of about 78 minutes. Guest appearances include Dilated Peoples (“Long Awaited”), Oh No, MED, Declaime, Kazi, and Tha Alkaholiks, all associated with the Stones Throw collective. One of the standout tracks, “Episodes,” runs nearly nine minutes and features a posse of Oxnard-area MCs, encapsulating the scene’s collaborative spirit.

Musically, Soundpieces: Da Antidote! represents intelligent, sample-driven West Coast underground rap, intentionally distancing itself from the glossy mainstream sound of the late ’90s. Critics praised Madlib’s imaginative, jazz-infused production and the album’s cohesive atmosphere, though some noted its length and density. Nevertheless, it has come to be recognized as one of the defining Stones Throw releases—a foundation for Madlib’s later experiments as Quasimoto, Madvillain, and Yesterday’s New Quintet.

Ultimately, Soundpieces: Da Antidote! marked the beginning of a new era: it introduced Madlib as a visionary producer, established Stones Throw Records as a home for boundary-pushing hip-hop, and brought the Oxnard underground scene to international attention. “Piano Works 2016–2026” by John Carroll Kirby brings together fourteen spontaneously conceived piano pieces and releases them in distilled form as an LP on Stones Throw. The collection documents snapshots of a pianist on the road: compositions Kirby jotted down whenever he had access to a piano for only a few hours or days, which is why they retain an immediate, improvisation-tinged character.

The recordings were made in various places — including Los Angeles, Rome, Tokyo, Wollongong, rural New Zealand, and London — and form an intimate counterpoint to the band-oriented arrangements of earlier releases such as “Blowout” and “Septet.” Some pieces were reconstructed from rediscovered files, giving the set an autobiographical component; “Valentino,” for instance, was written long before and recorded in a cabin in New Zealand.

Musically, John Carroll Kirby is marked here by clear melodic lines, harmonic subtleties, and an economical yet richly nuanced touch. The short compositions, often sketched in a single sitting, put the focus on form and mood rather than lavish arrangements, while at the same time revealing the harmonic vocabulary that shapes his wide-ranging work as a producer and composer.

As an LP, “Piano Works 2016–2026” offers a focused glimpse into Kirby’s way of working at the instrument and adds to his body of work a personal, purely piano-centered perspective.

“Something For Real” by the Kiefer Trio (feat. Luke Titus & Pera Krstajic) documents a concert recorded in Los Angeles in April 2023 and plays like a deliberately relaxed live album: Kiefer decided not to tell his fellow musicians about the recording in order to capture the immediacy and tension of the performance. The set was recorded as part of an appearance for the Scenario program, letting the live setting set the tone.

Musically, the trio operates at the intersection of jazz, fusion, and contemporary influences from R&B and electronic production; the pieces range from fresh trio arrangements of Kiefer’s own tunes to a distinctive take on Bobby Hutcherson’s “Montara.” The set includes a new work in the title track “Something For Real” alongside familiar numbers from Kiefer’s repertoire and leaves room for improvisatory dialogue between piano, bass, and drums.

The lineup is clear: Kiefer on piano and electric keyboards, Luke Titus on drums, and Pera Krstajic on bass—three longtime collaborators whose interplay carries the recording. As a special feature, the LP appears in an audiophile edition cut at 45 rpm, with a tip-on jacket and rice paper inner sleeve; the record also includes notes by Kiefer himself. The release is via Stones Throw.

Monkey Mind is the new album from French American duo Pearl & The Oysters, produced by Jonathan Rado (Weyes Blood, Miley Cyrus, Father John Misty, The Lemon Twigs, Foxygen). Though sunny on the surface, the album was written and recorded in the wake of the devastating LA fires of 2025 and Trump's second inauguration. The album is a departure from the space age kitsch sound of Planet Pearl to a warmer organic sound influenced by '70s soft rock (Todd Rundgren, The Beach Boys, Steely Dan), with echoes of City Pop & exotica. Monkey Mind is named after the Buddhist concept of a restless, looping consciousness - the duo drew on their own "monkey minds" to write the album in a matter of weeks, using music as way to process their worry.
