The “Club Imperiale” double LP by Maxime Denuc is released on Light-Years and transfers a fully developed concept to vinyl: an imaginary link between sacred spaces and early rave aesthetics that becomes palpable in both the instrumentation and the dramaturgy of the pieces.

On the album, Maxime Denuc works with a MIDI-controlled pipe organ and builds compositions that pick up on trance and techno forms of the 1990s without ever denying the original church acoustics. Individual tracks like “Hallucinogen” deliberately draw on references from the electronic scene, while pieces such as “Atlantis” and “Everytime” use short note repetitions and shimmering drone layers to create a maritime sonic image. This interplay of baroque lines and progressive club motifs shapes the overall dramaturgy of the work.

The compositions were programmed specifically for the instrument; Denuc used custom Max/MSP sequencers and a spatial multi-microphone setup to place the listener between concrete walls and expansive church niches. Production and mixing were handled by Raphaël Hénard at La Savonnerie, recording took place at St. Antonius Church by Harry Charlier, and mastering was done by Giuseppe Ielasi. These technical decisions underscore the experimental character of the album and emphasize the physical impact of the sound.

“The World Of Hans Zimmer - Best Of Limited Laser Etched Vinyl Edition” LP by Hans Zimmer is offered via Sony Classical/Sony Music and is presented as a limited, laser-etched vinyl edition. Bearing the “Best Of” tagline in its title, this release brings together a selection of compositions by film composer Hans Zimmer, newly compiled in this form on vinyl.

As a vinyl release, the “The World Of Hans Zimmer” LP combines the label profile of Sony Classical with the characteristic repertoire of Zimmer’s signature themes; the edition stands out through the decorative laser-etching technique applied to the record. With this special edition, Sony Classical/Sony Music issues a collector-oriented version that places the title center stage and prominently promotes Hans Zimmer as a composer.

The clear vinyl edition of the *While The Flood Rages* LP by Max Richter is released on Decca and presents the new work that grew out of Richter’s recent collaboration with choreographer Wayne McGregor for *MaddAddam*. The project originated as a co‑commission by the National Ballet of Canada and the Royal Opera House; Richter shaped the material into a standalone listening experience that functions as a companion piece to the stage production. For the recordings, he used orchestra, choir, piano, electronics, and processed field recordings, creating moments that are both dense and contemplative.

Structured across fifteen pieces in three acts, the album opens with “Wave After Wave” and moves from fragmented electronic textures toward quieter, titular passages such as “While The Flood Rages.” The final track and lead single “Now We Can Sing” unfolds choral lines built on a recurring piano motif and provides a focused, collective conclusion. Alongside the Tenebrae Choir, precise orchestral arrangements, electronic processing, and recurring piano-centered motives move into the foreground; the recording took place at Studio Richter Mahr. The clear vinyl edition showcases these layers in a physical format that emphasizes the narrative flow of the composition.

The "Friendship Survival Guide" LP by Adam Wiltzie and Jóhann Jóhannsson is released on Deutsche Grammophon and brings together compositions that fuse electronic textures with orchestral expansiveness. The record explores extended sonic spaces, slowly evolving drones, and a pared-down, precise orchestration that sets the voices of electronic loops against classical instrumentation.

Adam Wiltzie draws on his experience in ambient drone work and collaborative projects like A Winged Victory for the Sullen; Jóhann Jóhannsson is known for combining contemporary orchestration with electronic experimental music. Together they shape a sound world that unites cinematic tension with a sense of intimate camaraderie, without resorting to overly sentimental gestures. Their shared practice reveals itself in the sparsely arranged density where guitar and synthesizer drones interweave with strings and brass.

The compositions employ tape-loop techniques, long, sustained tone fields, and carefully placed orchestral interventions; this combination creates a distinctive balance between controlled mechanics and organic tone color. Pieces move between meditative stillness and subtly charged motion, with melodic fragments acting as leitmotifs while leaving room for atmospheric detail. For listeners interested in the intersection of electronic minimal music and modern orchestral art, the LP offers a clear, precise entry point into both worlds.

András Schiff’s “Goldberg Variations” are being released by ECM as a vinyl reissue and, for the first time, as a double LP. The recording features Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, captured live at Stadtcasino Basel in October 2001 and initially released on CD in 2003. Schiff performs the work on piano, and the recording was produced by Manfred Eicher.

For this recording, András Schiff returned to Bach’s masterpiece approximately two decades after his first recording for Decca. His take on the work comprises the opening Aria, thirty variations, and the concluding Aria da capo. Characteristic of Schiff’s approach is his pronounced sense of the cycle’s architectural order: repeats, groupings, pauses, and transitions are treated as part of a continuous musical progression. The live setting reinforces the impression of an uninterrupted journey through the work’s multilayered form.

ECM’s double LP comes in a tip-on gatefold cover and includes a 12-page booklet featuring a “Guided Tour” of the Goldberg Variations written by András Schiff. The release thus combines the complete concert recording with a personal introduction to Bach’s composition and the interpretive challenges it presents.

The “Vivaldi: The Four Seasons” LP by Alan Loveday, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and Sir Neville Marriner is released on Deutsche Grammophon and presents a recording that has been regarded as a reference version ever since it was made in 1969. This take on combines precise chamber-music articulation with a warm string sound that clearly delineates the sharply contrasted characters of the four concertos.

Alan Loveday’s solo parts are distinguished by supple phrasing and a fine balance between virtuosity and lyrical expression; under Sir Neville Marriner’s direction, the ensemble maintains a lean, transparent sonic profile. Simon Preston’s continuo realizations on harpsichord and organ add stylistic depth to the recording and underscore the historical significance of this record within the Academy’s catalog.

The edition presented here is based on analog source tapes and has been remastered for an audiophile reissue; the production uses an AAA chain and appears as a carefully designed gatefold pressing with additional liner notes and archival material. In this way, the LP offers a well-documented opportunity to experience one of the most influential takes on The Four Seasons in a high-quality pressing.

Claudio Abbado and the London Symphony Orchestra’s “Pulcinella” LP will be released by Deutsche Grammophon as part of the “The Original Source” series. Igor Stravinsky’s ballet score was commissioned by impresario Sergei Diaghilev in 1920 and is considered one of the key works of his neoclassical period. The recording will be released on November 13, 2026.

“Pulcinella” combines historical 18th-century music with Stravinsky’s modern musical language. Inspired by characters from the Italian Commedia dell’Arte, the work is characterized by pointed humor, contrasting instrumental colors, and deliberately unconventional orchestration. In addition to the London Symphony Orchestra under Claudio Abbado, Teresa Berganza, Ryland Davies, and John Shirley-Quirk perform the vocal parts.

For this edition, Abbado’s recording was remastered and cut for the first time from the original 1-inch, 8-track tapes. The work by Emil Berliner Studios was carried out entirely in analog using the AAA process. The LP is pressed on 180 g vinyl and presented in a deluxe gatefold edition, which also includes photographs as well as facsimiles of the recording logs and tape boxes. As a limited and numbered release, Deutsche Grammophon is continuing this historically significant interpretation of Stravinsky in the “Original Source” series.

The “The Boy And The Heron” LP by Joe Hisaishi and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is released as a Symphonic Suite in a limited edition on Deutsche Grammophon and presents the film’s musical material in concise orchestral movements. This release brings together Hisaishi’s distinctive compositional voice in an autonomous concert format and highlights the symphonic architecture of the themes without subordinating them to the film’s original dramaturgy. The LP edition emphasizes the role of the arrangement as a suite and clearly showcases the orchestral lines of the score.

The “Symphonic Suite” documented on the record is conceived for piano and orchestra; here Hisaishi acts both as composer and, in performance, as conductor and solo pianist, while the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra provides the orchestral realization. This collaboration between Hisaishi and the orchestra foregrounds the unifying power of melodic writing and makes the LP a concentrated testament to his recent symphonic work. The limited edition on Deutsche Grammophon thus offers a focused, collectible expression of Hisaishi’s musical language in a purely orchestral context.

Los Angeles based pianist, producer, and songwriter John Carroll Kirby traveled to Pietrasanta, Italy in the summer of 2018 on a self-imposed writing trip. During his stay he composed Tuscany, a two side-long solo piano exploration of this particular geographical envelope, a place where nature is shaped into form.
Kirby would cycle 12 kilometers each day to Cascata di Malbacco, a waterfall with jade pools and silver stone, and the inspiration for Side A of Tuscany. His own Cascata di Malbacco tumbles and shimmers along the piano as a gorgeous eighteen-minute-long improvised piece, some of it polished and some moments left raw.
On a ride to Sant’Anna, twenty-something kilometers away, Kirby took a wrong turn and got lost among the hills, where he encountered several monuments memorializing the victims of the Sant’Anna di Stazzema massacre. The dark history of an abandoned mill house served as the inspiration for the album’s haunting Side B, a eulogy for all of those forgotten by time.
Although Side A is inspired by the natural beauty of a waterfall, and Side B by the cruelty that people can inflict upon others, both pieces revolve around the same seven-note bassline. The idea Kirby is iterating on is the realization that darkness exists inside light, and vice versa; Tuscany is an inquiry into this duality and its consequences.
John Carroll Kirby has recently released records on Leaving Records, Outside Insight and Pinchy & Friends. In the studio and on the road, he’s produced and/or played with Connan Mockasin, Blood Orange, Sebastian Tellier, Shabazz Palaces and Solange.
He recently signed to Stones Throw Records.
Patience is a new outlet for exploring further beyond the break than usual. Inspired by the music perpetually on rotation at HQ – with E2-E4 representing the format’s high tide mark – each release will be one artist’s deep dive down one inspirational wormhole spread across two sides of vinyl, or two side-long sojourns making full use of a round 12” piece of plastic. Set and forget, zone out to tune in.

The “1996” LP by Ryuichi Sakamoto is released on Masterworks and showcases the Japanese composer and pianist’s chamber-music side. For this album, Sakamoto transforms key pieces from his extensive body of work into arrangements for piano, violin, and cello. The result is a focused lineup in which the melody, harmony, and interplay of the three instruments come vividly to the fore.

The album includes new renditions of “Bibo No Aozora,” “The Last Emperor,” and “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence,” among others. The selection combines compositions from Sakamoto’s film scores with other works from throughout his career, demonstrating how naturally his music moves between contemporary classical music, Japanese sonic aesthetics, and a personal songwriting tradition. Sakamoto performs the piano part himself, while the strings give the pieces an added chamber-music depth.

“1996” was originally released as a studio album and was later made available again in revised editions. This Masterworks LP places Sakamoto’s finely balanced arrangements at the center and makes the shifting tensions between restraint, lyrical calm, and dramatic development audible. In particular, the reduction to three instruments gives familiar themes from “The Last Emperor” and “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” a new contour without sacrificing their characteristic expression.

The “Recordings On ECM” LP by Steve Reich appears on ECM and presents a selection of historic recordings that document the composer’s work in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The compilation brings together the most distinctive pieces from this period and includes the takes on “Music for 18 Musicians” first released on ECM, as well as the ensemble recordings that capture Reich’s work with the Steve Reich Ensemble. The edition places its emphasis on the sonic clarity and structural precision of the original recordings as they are presented in the ECM releases.

The recordings were made between 1976 and 1981 and, in addition to “Music for 18 Musicians,” document shorter ensemble pieces such as “Octet,” “Music for a Large Ensemble,” and the vocally oriented “Tehillim,” performed by members of the Steve Reich Ensemble, including musicians who accompany Reich in the sessions and Reich himself in several parts. The edition thus offers a focused point of entry into Reich’s formal work with pulse and layering, and brings into relief the sound balance and finely detailed instrumental writing for which ECM’s productions of those years have often been praised.

The "Drumming · Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ · Six Pianos" triple LP by Steve Reich and Musicians is being released by Deutsche Grammophon as a reissue of the historic 1974 recording and, in complete form, brings together the approximately 85-minute version of "Drumming" with "Six Pianos" and "Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ." Presented in the Original Source Series, this edition once again shines a spotlight on a key work of early-1970s composition.

The performances are drawn from the sessions recorded in January 1974 at the Polydor Studios in Hamburg; for the reissue, fully analog AAA remastering and cutting were carried out at the Emil Berliner Studios. The edition comes in a numbered, limited lift-off box and includes a 32-page booklet with session photographs, facsimiles of the original recording logs, the composer’s original liner notes, and a new essay by David Butchart; an accompanying certificate contains a contribution by Rainer Maillard on the preparation of the original master tapes. The ensemble on the recording includes members of the Steve Reich Ensemble and the composer himself, featuring marimba and glockenspiel parts as well as vocal lines, as documented in the studio version recorded in 1974.

Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic’s “Karajan: The Christmas Album” LP is being released on Deutsche Grammophon for the first time as a 1LP, featuring a selection of festive recordings conducted by the legendary maestro. The compilation combines traditional Christmas carols with Baroque and classical works, bringing together recordings with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras as well as soprano Leontyne Price.

The repertoire includes Franz Xaver Gruber’s “Silent Night,” “O Tannenbaum,” Mendelssohn’s “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” and the “Ave Maria” in the version by Bach and Gounod. The festive selection is complemented by excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” including the “Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy” and the “Waltz of the Flowers,” as well as Vivaldi’s “Winter” from “The Four Seasons.”

The pastorals by Arcangelo Corelli, Pietro Locatelli, and Francesco Manfredini provide special highlights and shape the album’s Baroque character. Mozart’s “Alleluja” from “Exsultate, jubilate” and Respighi’s “Siciliana” further expand the program with finely orchestrated concert music. The recordings were made during various periods between 1961 and 1986 and reflect Karajan’s longstanding work with renowned orchestras and soloists.

Nature And Organisation's exquisite modern classical album from 1998 reissued in January via Svart Records

Nature And Organisation is the creative musical works of iconic English artist, musician and composer Michael Cashmore. The melancholic, neo-classical instrumental album Death in a Snow Leopard Winter from 1998, composed of 12 untitled tracks, has only been released once on vinyl in the past. Svart Records have previously worked with Cashmore on reissues and new material, and have now the honor to bring this beautiful piece of work back on vinyl and CD in January 2027.

"There is no coincidence that the Current 93 album Soft Black Stars and the Nature And Organisation album Death in a Snow Leopard Winter were both released in 1998 as I wrote the music for them simultaneously. At the time I was finding the guitar a little stale as an instrument to write with so I started experimenting with piano instead. I have no musical training so the piano was a total mystery for me, I didn't know any of the names of the notes that I was playing and it was suddenly very exciting to start composing using a piano, I could just touch several keys and just see what emerged, a few notes suddenly inspired its progression into melody and chords.

Around this time David Tibet called me with the idea of creating a very stripped down Current 93 album using a piano as the only instrument and I told him that's exactly what I was creating at the time. So some of the pieces I was working on I decided should go to the Current 93 album and others to the Nature And Organisation album which I envisaged to be more ornamented than the Current 93 album.

I consider both of these albums to be as important as the other, they were works that I composed during a difficult time in my life and both represent the struggles that I was going through. Both works are inherently connected in their creation and purpose I feel, and for those who enjoy Soft Black Stars I believe that they would also enjoy Death in a Snow Leopard Winter equally, they are both Brother and Sister."

The *Almost Starlight* 12" by Jem Finer & John Matthias is released on Touch and was produced by Jay Auborn. The record brings together twelve compositions whose conception eludes any simple genre classification; while the label “modern-classical” serves as a rough orientation, the material at the same time points to influences ranging from Arvo Pärt and Terry Riley to Can, Delius, and Alice Coltrane. The instrumentation focuses on the immediate sonority of hurdy-gurdy and violin and explores acoustic spaces with a precision that nonetheless remains open to surprising sonic gestures.

The album was recorded in the summer of 2025 in a medieval church in Devon, a choice that shapes both the architecture of the space and the atmospheric warmth of the material. Jay Auborn not only provides the production, but also plays cello on several tracks; his work opens up the recordings through a sensitive engagement with acoustics and spatial imagination, allowing the compositions to appear within a wide, light-filled sonic field. Mastering and visual design complement the organic approach of the recording.

Jem Finer brings in his long-standing engagement with systems and sound instruments—including his fascination with the hurdy-gurdy and projects such as *Longplayer*—while John Matthias, with a background in theoretical physics and multifaceted collaborations, works toward richness and formal clarity. Together, on *Almost Starlight* they probe the possibilities of acoustic instruments by transferring electronic ways of thinking to purely acoustic means; the result remains demanding yet immediately accessible. The release appears on CD, 12", cassette, and on streaming platforms.

The release includes 29 tracks with a total runtime of 44:26 minutes and lists composers Hays Holladay and Ryan Holladay as the main performers and producers. Guest musicians also appear on the recording: Aaron Esposito can be heard on trumpet on the opening track, “Main Titles Extended,” while Shannon Lay contributes vocals to “Skybridge Reprise.” Chad Clark is credited as mastering engineer, rounding out the release’s technical credits.

The “OST Resident Evil” LP brings together short, concise film motifs and individual cues whose sequence traces the production’s dramatic arc; Hays Holladay and Ryan Holladay appear both as composers and performing artists. The record is part of the Milan Records/Sony catalog and, in its LP format, offers the opportunity to experience the score arrangements together as a collection. Ivor Novello–winning and Oscar–nominated composer Daniel Pemberton (Spider-Man: Into/Across the Spider Verse, The Trial of the Chicago 7) delivers a bold, immersive score for Project Hail Mary, blending rhythmic percussion, soaring choral vocals, orchestral movements, synths and electronic textures. Focus track ‘Life is Reason’ utilises these elements to brilliant effect to bring listeners onboard Rocky and Grace’s experimental mission, encapsulating the transportive cosmic soundscape.

Project Hail Mary was a soundtrack journey like no other. Right from the beginning, we all talked about trying to make a score that subconsciously connected you to being a human and the world around you - whether through trying to use sound that felt unusually elemental - wood (woodblocks), metal (steel drums), glass (cristal bachet), water (leaking taps!) or through the sounds a human could make - from large choirs to mouth drum machines, delicate and electronically treated solo voices to noisy hand clap stomp ensembles using their entire bodies to deliver percussive scale. I wanted to create an organic and unusual sound world that hopefully felt new and unexpected yet still reached and touched the emotional beats that we long for in great film making experiences, that could envelop you in the awe and wonder of the universe yet still deliver the fun and thrill of discovering a brand new friendship, even if it does happen to be with a rock from another planet. It was a crazy journey that I am very proud of that called out for an approach I’d never embarked on before. Fingers crossed this musical Hail Mary worked…!

The “Satie: Vexations” LP by Igor Levit is released on Masterworks and brings his engagement with Erik Satie’s radical seminal work to vinyl. Here, Levit documents his take on a piece built from a short motif that repeats cyclically and whose performance is traditionally associated with 840 iterations; the recording condenses this special, endurance-based approach into a focused studio production. As performing pianist, Igor Levit is the sole credited force on this release, which presents the work in its characteristic meditative yet persistent reading.

The release appears in collaboration with Levit’s own label NO SILENCE and Masterworks; a limited special edition of 840 copies complements the standard LP and includes additional collectibles such as a signed sheet of score and an NFC chip. On the album, Levit explores the creative possibilities of repetition: subtle dynamic and tempo-shaping nuances gradually shift perception of the motif and reveal the structural depth of Satie’s composition. The “Satie: Vexations” LP on Masterworks turns the focus toward an unusual side of the piano repertoire and documents a take on the work that is both historically distinctive and interpretively individual.

The “Das Wohltemperierte Klavier” LP by Sviatoslav Richter was released on Sony in a carefully prepared edition that presents the complete Books I and II (BWV 846–893). This multi-LP box set has been remastered on 180 g vinyl and, in its design, follows the look of the original Eurodisc releases.

The work itself comprises the 48 preludes and fugues by Johann Sebastian Bach, gathered here in Richter’s recording, which reveals both contrapuntal precision and formal expansiveness. Recorded in the early 1970s in Salzburg/Klessheim, these performances are regarded in professional reception as one of the definitive takes on this cycle.

Musically, Richter’s approach is characterized by clear voice leading, nuanced articulation, and a wide dynamic range; he combines architectural rigor with an immediate pianistic directness, bringing out the subtle inner lines of Bach’s contrapuntal writing with great clarity. The edition also includes an informative booklet and a remastered sound that emphasizes the balance between fidelity to detail and sonic warmth.

The “Bach: Mass in B Minor” LP by Karl Richter with the Munich Bach Orchestra and the Munich Bach Choir is released on Deutsche Grammophon and documents Richter’s widely acclaimed recording of the complete Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) from the early 1960s. The production brings together renowned soloists: Maria Stader (soprano), Hertha Töpper (alto), Ernst Haefliger (tenor), Kieth Engen (bass), and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, whose contributions explore the contrast between the large choral movements and the more chamber-like sections.

Karl Richter shapes the score in a broad, homogeneous flow in which choir and orchestra carry the vocal fabric, while the solo parts assume clear, text-centered profiles. The recording lasts around two hours and vividly brings out both the polyphonic weight of the Kyrie and Gloria and the intimate arias and duets. This recording ranks among the defining documents of Richter’s take on Bach and is part of special editions that highlight his achievements for the repertoire.

Francesco Messina is perhaps best known for his split album with fellow composer Raul Lovisoni, Prati Bagnati del Monte Analogo, originally released on the seminal Italian label Cramps in 1979. Along with contemporaries Franco Battiato, Juri Camisasca and Giusto Pio, Messina helped reshape the world of modern composition with an organic rawness and haunting beauty.

In November 2023, Messina performed Prati Bagnati live for the first time in Milan, Italy – along with pianist Michele Fedrigotti, who appeared on the original LP. The concert was a tremendous success and led the composer to further reflect upon the music he made over 40 years ago. From his home piano – a hundred-year-old Schimmel with magnificent resonance – new pieces began to emerge out of these meditative sessions.

As Messina says in the liner notes, "The idea of making a new album wasn't the driving force at all; what mattered was trying to reconnect with the 'freedom' I had experienced back then while creating that music. I started over without haste or deadlines, simply trying to find a deeper, inner connection."

W.25TH / Superior Viaduct is honored to present Le api dell'invisibile. From the hazy drone of "For Florian" and the title track to the gentle swells of "Letter for an Absent Friend," the album is a lush amalgam of new age and ambient minimalism that is vividly reminiscent of Messina's earlier work.

The title draws inspiration from a famous reflection by Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke: "We are the bees of the invisible. We ceaselessly gather the honey of the visible, to store it in the great golden hive of the Invisible." It is a phrase that has long shaped the way Messina looks at his music – transforming lived experience into sound, making audible what normally eludes the eye.

The “Philip Glass Piano Etudes: Versions” 12" by Vanessa Wagner, released on InFiné, transposes Glass’s piano-centered form into a new electronic realm and lets the originals re-emerge through four contemporary takes. With the “Versions” series, InFiné invites a young generation of composers and producers; Aho Ssan, Carmen Villain, Cucina Povera, and Tauceti draw on Wagner’s pianistic template and shape it into autonomous, downbeat- and leftfield-tinged versions that deconstruct and reassemble both the texture and rhythmic structure of the etudes.

The 12" complements Vanessa Wagner’s extensive work around Philip Glass: her recording “Philip Glass: The Complete Piano Etudes,” released in 2025, formed the starting point for these renditions and met with broad acclaim from both press and audiences. As a result of this project, Wagner received a nomination for the Victoires de la Musique Classique 2026 and continued her sold-out concerts; in parallel, she will curate the program of La Folle Journée de Nantes for 2027 and 2028. The “Philip Glass Piano Etudes: Versions” 12" thus offers a focused, electronically tinged perspective on Glass’s piano work, linking classical pianism with contemporary producer aesthetics.

The "In C" LP by Terry Riley is released on Music On Vinyl and is presented here in a reissued edition remastered from the original source material. This release brings Riley’s 1964 composition into focus: the piece is based on 53 short melodic cells that the performers repeat with individual freedom, weaving them into an ever-shifting sonic tapestry. With "In C," Terry Riley presents a work whose pulsing structure and open performance instructions were groundbreaking for the emergence of minimal music and have influenced generations of composers.

This Music On Vinyl edition documents this formal openness on LP and offers the listener a clearly focused presentation of the work; the record comes in a PVC protective sleeve with an included insert. Beyond the original conceptual idea, it is precisely the recurring, slightly shifted motifs that give "In C" its distinctive character and underscore Terry Riley’s role as a driving force of the avant-garde. Anyone exploring the development of experimental classical music will find in this "In C" edition on Music On Vinyl a carefully prepared opportunity to trace Riley’s central work at their own pace.

The “Tchaikovsky: Ballet Suites 1” LP by Mstislav Rostropovich and the Berlin Philharmonic is released on Deutsche Grammophon and features key orchestral works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Under Rostropovich’s direction, the program opens with the suite from *The Nutcracker*, Op. 71a, including the Miniature Overture, March, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Trepak, and Waltz of the Flowers. The program is rounded out by the lyrical “Andante cantabile” in its orchestral version and the richly colorful “Capriccio Italien,” Op. 45.

The recording was made with the Berlin Philharmonic in the 1970s and is considered one of the defining recordings of Tchaikovsky’s orchestral works in the Deutsche Grammophon catalog. For this edition, the original 1-inch, 8-track tapes were newly processed for the first time and prepared for analog cutting. Emil Berliner Studios handled the remastering and cutting using a fully analog process.

The LP is released on 180-gram vinyl in an elaborately designed gatefold edition. It also includes additional images as well as reproductions of the recording logs and tape boxes. Rostropovich combines the dance-like elegance of the *Nutcracker* suite with the orchestral splendor of *Capriccio Italien* and the lyrical tranquility of “Andante cantabile.” In this way, “Tchaikovsky: Ballet Suites 1” showcases the sonic range of this Berlin Philharmonic recording in a carefully curated program.

With the LP "Recall Recall," released on Delos, Late Aster presents the next level of their creativity while, by and large, remaining true to their style. On this recording, Late Aster relies on carefully sculpted sonic spaces and a clear, sober dramaturgy that oscillates between restrained melancholy and deliberate intensity. The compositions are marked by striking melodic lines and a heightened attention to detail in arrangement and dynamics; the voice often steps to the fore as the central element, while instrumental passages weave atmosphere without ever tipping into excess.

Musically, Late Aster operates in a field of tension that combines elements of introspective pop music with ambient textures, with the songwriting always focused on the emotional core. The production prioritizes transparency and refinement, allowing individual sonic nuances to stand out clearly. Taken as a whole, the result is a work that both documents the continuity in Late Aster’s output and reveals small but audible steps of development. For listeners who value subtle inflections of mood and melody, "Recall Recall" offers a wealth of moments to discover and linger in.

The “Requiem For My Friend Live In Bielsko-Biala” LP by Zbigniew Preisner and Dominik Wania is released on Preisner Productions and documents the concert held on March 13, 2026, at the Church of St. Stanislaus in Bielsko-Biała. The live recording marks the 30th anniversary of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s death and brings the Requiem material together in a concert performance; the program includes “Kyrie Eleison,” “Dies Irae,” and “Lux Aeterna,” among other pieces. This live set refers to the original version of the work from the recording of “Requiem for My Friend” (Warsaw, 1997) and adapts its dramatic structure to the acoustics of the historic church.

The solo parts are performed by Edyta Krzemień (soprano), Robert Crowe (male soprano), Jakub Burzyński (countertenor), Daniel Domarecki (tenor), and Łukasz Konieczny (bass); Zbigniew Preisner conducted the performance. Radosław Pujanek serves as concertmaster, joined by violins, viola, cello, and double bass, while Jan Szypowski plays organ and Sławomir Berny adds sonic depth with gongs and tubular bells. For listeners seeking Zbigniew Preisner’s Requiem in a live-documented format, this Preisner Productions LP offers a precisely presented concert rendition of the modern classical requiem.

The "Soldier's Tale" LP by Roger Waters is released on Music On Vinyl and documents his adaptation of Igor Stravinsky’s well-known theater piece, in which Waters reworks the narration in a new version and delivers it himself. For the recording he assembled musicians from the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival; the work remains committed to chamber instrumentation and uses the standard septet scoring of violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, cornet/trumpet, trombone, and percussion. The text version is based on Waters’ own adaptation, which in turn relies on the translation by Michael Flanders and Kitty Black and is ultimately rooted in the original text by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz, with Waters embodying several characters in performance, each with a distinct mode of delivery.

The Music On Vinyl edition is issued as a double LP and supplements the musical performance with a gatefold sleeve featuring linen laminate, as well as a four-page booklet with texts and images; the pressing is offered as a 180 g edition and appears in a limited, numbered run. The recording was originally released in 2018 and combines Stravinsky’s rhythmically incisive chamber music with Waters’ narrative approach, allowing familiar sections of the piece to emerge in a focused, scenic performance.

The “Look Back” LP by Haruka Nakamura is released by Avex Pictures and brings together the film score for the feature film of the same name. Haruka Nakamura composed and arranged the score; the record documents its quiet piano motifs, sparse electronic textures, and chamber-music arrangements that carry the film’s narrative turns. The central theme, “Light song,” features vocals by Urara and serves as an emotional closing statement, while tracks such as “FINAL ONE” represent distinctive recurring motifs.

The release follows the film’s dramatic progression and is sequenced to musically mirror the flow of the images. The LP edition was produced in a limited run and, with its carefully considered sequencing, is aimed at listeners who want to experience the film’s sound separately. Alongside Haruka Nakamura’s compositional work, the record contains subtle details in its arrangements and tonal colors that come through in quiet passages as well as moments of growing intensity. The “Look Back” LP thus offers a concentrated listening experience of the film score, in which melody and sonic space vividly reflect the original’s narrative atmosphere.

The “Continuum II” LP by Víkingur Ólafsson is being released on Deutsche Grammophon and continues the pianist’s exploration of Johann Sebastian Bach as the second installment of his CONTINUUM project. On this release, Ólafsson brings together original keyboard works with his own arrangements and transcriptions, with individual renditions deliberately probing the counterpoint between historical models and contemporary pianistic treatment.

The album was recorded entirely in Ólafsson’s new home studio, “The Nutshell,” in Iceland; this intimate studio environment shapes the sound and at the same time allows for subtle dynamic shadings in his playing. Released in advance was Ólafsson’s arrangement of the “Air” from Orchestral Suite No. 3, an example of his creative rereading of well-known Bach pieces for piano. “Continuum II” will be released digitally, on CD, and on LP, and is programmatically linked to the 2024 launch installment “Continuum” without merely reproducing its repertoire: the focus is on reexamining and renewing established Bach forms through Ólafsson’s personal pianism.

This four-movement composition was originally commissioned for a large-scale Earth Day event and draws inspiration from and pays tribute to the four seasons. Notable performances over the years include those at Sydney Opera House, London's Royal Festival Hall and NYC's Rockefeller Center. Each performance of the piece features stellar special guests; previous guests have included Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith), Paul Banks (Interpol), Sarah Lipstate (Noveller, Iggy Pop) among many more. The rhythm section features members of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio and Boredoms. 41 Strings's compositional style is purposefully simple, lyrical and minimal; each of the four season's is treated as its own distinct 'character' to conjure a sentimental link of association, experience and environment.

The LP "Tchaikovsky & Sibelius: Violin Concertos" by Kyung Wha Chung and the LSO & André Previn is released on Deutsche Grammophon and brings together two core violin concertos of the repertoire in a single recording. The performance places Kyung Wha Chung’s solo part at the center, supported by the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of André Previn, with a focus on clear articulation and orchestral balance.

The program pairs Tchaikovsky’s powerful, melodically rich violin concerto with Sibelius’s Nordic-influenced yet introverted concerto, demanding different kinds of virtuosity and expression. Chung is distinguished by a lean, radiant tone and precise intonation; her phrasing highlights both the lyrical arches and the technically demanding climaxes. The collaboration with the orchestra and conductor creates a well-balanced tension between soloist and ensemble.

This recording is regarded as a landmark in Chung’s discography and contributed significantly to her international recognition; reviews and recommendations emphasized the clarity of interpretation and stylistic assurance. For listeners interested in classical violin concertos, the LP offers a historically significant and musically convincing reference recording.

“This Will Be Us” by Hildur Guðnadóttir is being released as an LP on Deutsche Grammophon, translating the composer’s more recent symphonic program into a physical format. The recording places the cello voice at the center and connects it with large-scale orchestral arrangements that reimagine central motifs from her work. The album is aimed at listeners who seek the intersection of contemporary chamber music and orchestral sonic dramaturgy.

Hildur Guðnadóttir has become known as a cellist, vocalist, and composer; her approach combines acoustic intimacy, electronically expanded soundscapes, and cinematic arcs of tension. Characteristic are slow, organically evolving gestures, subtle dissonances, and a high proportion of pieces in which voice and strings create a dense, almost vocal texture. This range, style-wise, is reflected in the LP’s arrangements, which include both pared-down solo passages and orchestral unfoldings.

The pieces come from different creative phases in Guðnadóttir’s career and have been newly reworked for this program; the repertoire ranges from solo works to compositions known from her film oeuvre, with the composer herself carrying the cello part. Concert announcements and program notes emphasize the dialogic character between solo instrument and orchestra, as well as the rewriting of earlier pieces for a symphonic context.

Cologne - based composer and multi - instrumentalist Ozan Tekin’s second studio album “Anarya” will be released via Gülbaba Records on May 27 th . Tekin winds his musical journey back from Cologne to Adana with a long layover in Istanbul in “Anarya”. A triangle of migration drawn by musical notation and performance. The album is composed of 14 tracks and each one of them is a sound story that echoes Tekin’s distinct memories from these three cities. “Anarya” is the end product of a process in which Tekin and his upright piano co - tuned each other. It is an artistic representation of the idiosyncratic phenomenon called stimmung in German; a spectrum of tones, moods and atmospheres expressed in personal and instrumental terms. Tekin concludes the piano conversations from his previously released EPs in 2021 (“Anarya I” and “Anarya Ii”). The remarkably catchy melodies and immersive melancholic arpeggios fl ow throughout. The transposed narrative of “Anarya” sprung up from its roots when Tekin came across with a 66 - years old worn out piano in Cologne. Mesmerized by its unique sound, he felt the urge to make recordings with this piano before it fell apart. Aft er spending months learning its mechanics, Tekin recorded his second album with the old upright piano he repaired and brought back to life. The uneasy changes in time signatures and ambient ornamentations with gloomy synths of 80’s, lush strings and room tones set up the atmospheric stage of “Anarya I” in the first five tracks. Following six tracks of the album attempts to revisit Tekin’s emotional and episodic memories in Istanbul. His unaffected absorption into piano music in the first two parts of “Anar ya” are followed by his coyishly joyful tracks later in the album: an idle “ode”, a lost “lament” and a colorful “jam”. These three tracks blend the neoclassical, jazz and ambient sounds of Cologne and Istanbul with sentiments of childhood and rascality in Adana. The piano conversations of Tekin throughout “Anarya” are accompanied by his analogue synthesizers, vocals, bass guitar, Hanitra Wagner’s violin and Berke Can Özcan’s drums , percussions and vibraphone, and Emre Malikler’s mix and mastering. The sou nds of collaboration go deeper and louder as the album’s tracks move forward and Tekin’s memories go backwards simultaneously. Anarya gitmek (“to go back”) is a vernacular saying from Tekin’s hometown Adana and Tekin makes a figurative attempt to migrate b ackwards via the compositions that came into being in his most recent home, Cologne. Having been born out of an upright piano, Tekin’s compositions have instrumental origins, however, due to his constantly mutating sense of belonging, his melodies can’t be pinpointed to any specific heimat . Tekin’s continuously transforming music is an invitation to his listeners to explore and experience his music in their own terms. Tekin’s personal memories that shape “Anarya” is open to new forms of sonic exploration and rearrangement. This openness lies in Tekin’s determined faith in not to be entrenched in any single genre. The immersive intimacy radiating from the collaborative piano conversations in “Anarya” is an invitation signature to his music’s current and fut ure followers. Text by Mehmet Ekinci

The “Unit Of Heart” LP by Chantal Michelle is released on Outside Time and comprises two interwoven compositions that explore different compositional modes. The release features Patrick Shiroishi on flute and saxophone, as well as poet and speaker Funto Omojola; Omojola’s words and voice frame the title piece and also appear on the LP’s printed inner sleeve.

The A-side, “Sudden Oceans,” builds an almost minimalist sound field from breath, layers of flute, and saxophone; all woodwinds are played by Shiroishi and shaped by Michelle into a wave-like structure in which breath sounds mark the beginning and the end. “Unit of Heart” unfolds in a more linear fashion and expands the palette with synth pads, field recordings, and expressive saxophone passages; Omojola’s melodic vocal line turns into a ghostly presence in the space, while synthetic pads give way to dissonant ringing and atonal electronic textures. Field recordings of water and nocturnal insect calls are processed to the point that they morph into pulsing noise textures. The “Unit Of Heart” LP demands focused listening and with each repeat spin reveals new nuances and tension fields that clearly express Chantal Michelle’s interest in unfamiliar relationships between sounds and microtonal shifts.

The “Sixteen Carols For Christmas” LP by the Choir of King's College is released by Warner and brings together sixteen Christmas carols that make full use of the acoustic space of the King's College Chapel in Cambridge. The recording combines choir performances under the direction of Sir David Willcocks, Philip Ledger, and Stephen Cleobury, and documents the choir’s characteristic vocal balance across a concise vinyl album.

The program of “Sixteen Carols For Christmas” combines familiar choral settings such as “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful” with more contemplative, solo-centered moments; alongside established arrangements, John Tavener’s “The Lamb” appears as a contemporary contribution that highlights the wide-ranging programming of the release. With this LP, Warner offers a focused point of entry into traditional and contemporary Christmas works, while preserving the natural ambience of the choral recordings. The “Sixteen Carols For Christmas” LP by the Choir of King's College thus presents a compact selection of core repertoire pieces and exemplary interpretations from the King’s College choral tradition, complementing the ensemble’s Warner discography with a clearly defined collection of Christmas choral works.

The “Instincta” LP by Suena is being released on Sony Classical and marks her debut as a performing artist with her own compositions for piano and strings; the release is scheduled for the fall. Having previously worked as a producer and songwriter for acts such as Apache 207, Herbert Grönemeyer, and Capital Bra, Suena presents with “Instincta” a collection of melodious, sonorous pieces that fuse classical instrumentation with contemporary production elements. She describes her approach as “Modern Disney,” relying in the arrangements on a dense interplay of romantic melody and modern studio aesthetics.

Musically, “Instincta” brings together the intimacy specific to the piano with the spaciousness carried by the strings; influences from Chopin and Debussy are complemented by production techniques from the pop realm, resulting in a sound that is both direct and finely nuanced. The digital single “Primapulsa” was released as a first taste and is accompanied by a video that focuses on Suena’s transition from the producer’s chair to the concert grand. Live performances, for example at Classic Open Air, have already served to present selected pieces and underscore the performative character of the LP. “Instincta” on Sony Classical introduces Suena for the first time in her own sound-shaping role.

At the heart of “Worms: L'enquête” are four keyboard instruments — concert grand piano, CP-70 electric piano, Prophet V analog synthesizer, and a modular system — which Worms deploys as sonic “evidence.” The LP’s program is structured in four parts and a coda; some pieces follow the character of a toccata or a nocturne, others grow from improvisatory moments into striking melodies, while still others work with abstract structures. This sequence allows for shifting perspectives and a tightening dramatic arc in which composed forms and free modes of playing meet head‑on.

Alpha Classics presents “Worms: L'enquête” as a consistent continuation of Worms’s work as a storyteller at the piano; the LP focuses on the artist’s sonic research and presents a dense, multi-layered engagement with instruments and form.

The “Lux Natalis” LP by Dresdner Kreuzchor is released on Berlin Classics and bears the English subtitle “Christmas With Dresdner Kreuzchor.” The cover features the name Martin Lehmann, signaling the artistic direction of the recording. The release presents the choir in a Christmas-themed program and associates the title “Lux Natalis” with familiar festive motifs.

The program of the “Lux Natalis” LP focuses on classic Christmas music and sacred choral pieces, performed by Dresdner Kreuzchor with vocal precision. The selection centers on liturgical and choral traditions of the feast day and draws on the characteristic tonal colors of a boys’ choir to shape festive melodies and choral textures. The choir’s takes on the repertoire emphasize clearly articulated voices and homogeneous vocal groups, without delving into the specifics of individual arrangements.

As an LP on Berlin Classics, “Lux Natalis” offers a physical presentation of this Christmas program and adds to the label’s existing choral releases. The combination of Dresdner Kreuzchor, the title “Lux Natalis,” and the Berlin Classics label makes this LP a documented recording of classic Christmas repertoire in the choir’s catalog.

The “Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 3 / Moments Musicaux” LP by Idil Biret / Alexander Dmitriev / Leningrad Symphony Orchestra is released on Naxos and brings together the recording of the Third Piano Concerto and the “Moments Musicaux,” Op. 16. This compilation focuses on the concertante interplay between soloist and orchestra as well as on the contrasting palette of piano miniatures that Rachmaninov condensed into this cycle.

Idil Biret appears here as a renowned Rachmaninov interpreter; her extensive oeuvre on Naxos documents a deep engagement with the Russian repertoire and is characterized by a combination of technical brilliance and tonal sensuality. The present recording makes these qualities clearly audible, from the densely woven orchestral dialogue to the finely detailed articulation of the solo passages.

Alexander Dmitriev and the Leningrad Symphony Orchestra provide the large-scale orchestral framework that lends the concerto its expansive drama; their collaboration emphasizes both the orchestral colors and the dialogic role of the piano. Overall, the LP presents a faithful reading of Rachmaninov’s work—virtuosic, nuanced, and stylistically assured—and thus offers a clear insight into the concertante side of Biret’s pianistic artistry.

The “Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 3” LP by Idil Biret / Boston Symphony Orchestra / Erich Leinsdorf is released on Naxos and documents a historic concert performance from the pianist’s archives.

Idil Biret, who ranks among the most distinguished Rachmaninov interpreters thanks to her extensive discography and concert career, combines technical brilliance with expressive depth of field in this recording; the collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Erich Leinsdorf places particular emphasis on balance between orchestra and solo part.

This three-movement piano concerto demands supreme virtuosity and deeply felt cantabile lines at the same time; in this performance, the dense harmonic layers and concertante dialogue emerge with great clarity, while Biret’s touch and phrasing bring out the lyrical motifs with compelling urgency. For listeners who appreciate classical concert repertoire, the LP offers an interpretively respectful yet distinctly personal reading of the work, one that highlights the structural richness and pianistic challenges of the “Piano Concerto No. 3” with precise focus.

The Crystal Clear Vinyl Edition of the “Symphony No. 3 Metaphysica & Harp Concerto” LP by Joe Hisaishi, released on Deutsche Grammophon, presents the composer’s two major orchestral works on a physical medium and transfers their orchestral detail and dynamic contrasts to the vinyl format. The pairing makes the juxtaposition of symphonic breadth and concertante solo poetry audible and places the compositions in the context of Hisaishi’s more recent, classically oriented creative period.

Joe Hisaishi has long since moved beyond being “just” a film composer; his work ranges from minimalist‑tinged beginnings to opulent orchestral scores that combine melodic immediacy with contemporary rhythmic and coloristic layering. His experience as a conductor and arranger, as well as his close collaboration with major orchestras, informs the density and clarity of his scores; characteristic features include clearly contoured melodies and meticulous instrumentation that emphasizes soloistic colors.

“Metaphysica” (Symphony No. 3) ranks among his large‑scale symphonic projects, while the Harp Concerto places the instrument’s soloistic virtuosity and timbral richness at center stage; the Harp Concerto has been performed, among other occasions, on major U.S. and European tours. Both works illustrate Hisaishi’s transition toward a contemporary orchestral idiom that unites cinematic emotionality with formal precision.

The "Folk Baroque" LP by Erik Bosgraaf / filoBarocco was released on Brilliant Classics.

The program is devoted to a speculative revival of early Polish dance melodies preserved in the so‑called Rostock Manuscript and long associated with Georg Philipp Telemann. From a handful of notated leitmotifs, Bosgraaf and the ensemble develop arrangements that link Baroque practice with a living folk‑music tradition and leave room for improvisation. This approach emphasizes rhythm and melodic openness, placing familiar Baroque gestures in a new, folkloric context.

The lineup features Erik Bosgraaf on recorder and the Italian ensemble filoBarocco (violin, cello, lute), with Francesco Facchini, Carlo Maria Paulesu, and Marco Baronchelli appearing here by name. The interplay between Bosgraaf’s expressive articulation and the chamber‑music accompaniment shapes the sound of the recording. Emerging in part from a project that was presented at the Göttingen Handel Festival and within the EEEMERGING+ program, the album was recorded in the Kruiskerk in Burgum and is distinguished by clear sound balance and sensitive phrasing.

The “Strauss: Wiener Walzer” LP by Willi Boskovsky and the Vienna Philharmonic appears on Gramola in the classical genre and includes six waltzes by Johann Strauss II, including “The Blue Danube,” “Artist’s Life,” and the “Emperor Waltz.” The collection focuses on the concert-oriented interpretation of these dances and is distinguished by elaborated introductions that go beyond their original function as dance music. The pieces are presented in stereo recordings made between 1958 and 1961, clearly highlighting both thematic development and orchestral writing.

Willi Boskovsky, longtime concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic, conducts the recordings; his interpretation combines streamlined phrasing with clearly defined melodic lines and a refined sensitivity to changes in tempo. The recordings bring together the best of interpretive artistry and recording technology and remain classic references for the finest possible reproduction of Johann Strauss’s music. On the Gramola LP, both the characteristic melodic arcs and the dynamic nuances of the orchestral parts come through distinctly, making the release a clear musical document of the waltzes’ concert-oriented form.

The *Songs Of Joy & Peace* double LP by Yo-Yo Ma & Friends is released on Music On Vinyl and presents Yo-Yo Ma’s program, first issued in 2008, in an edition specifically designed for vinyl. The album combines traditional choral and Christmas songs with unconventional arrangements; Ma opens the record with a multi-voice version of “Dona Nobis Pacem,” while modern classics such as “Here Comes The Sun” and jazz-tinged interpretations like “My Favorite Things” are part of the sequence.

The release documents the wide range of collaborations: Diana Krall and Alison Krauss contribute vocals, James Taylor sings “Here Comes The Sun,” Dave Brubeck appears on piano, and instrumental guests such as Chris Botti, Joshua Redman, Jake Shimabukuro, and members of the Silk Road Ensemble round out the lineup. Musically, the spectrum extends from chamber-like intimacy to jazz and world-music colors, all anchored by Ma’s distinctive cello playing. Music On Vinyl offers this edition as a double LP on 180-gram vinyl; the package includes a four-page booklet with credits and additional background information on how the recordings came about. The *Songs Of Joy & Peace* double LP by Yo-Yo Ma & Friends is aimed at listeners who want to experience the original recordings in a carefully crafted vinyl format.

The “Danny Elfman: Cello Concerto & Film Music” LP by Gautier Capuçon and the BBC Concert Orchestra with Li Bringuier is released on Erato and brings together the composer Danny Elfman’s concerto of the same name with selected orchestral arrangements of his film music. In doing so, Erato documents a tangible connection between Elfman’s concert compositions and his cinematic oeuvre, interpreted by soloist Gautier Capuçon and accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

At the heart of the album is Elfman’s Cello Concerto, originally written for Gautier Capuçon and already performed in concert with the cellist; this recording captures Capuçon’s solo part in a nuanced and technically precise reading. The program is complemented by orchestral versions of selected film themes, which on the LP reflect Elfman’s contrasting musical language between lyrical writing and dramatic orchestral color. The recording and studio context underline the meticulous production for which Erato is responsible on this release.

With the “Danny Elfman: Cello Concerto & Film Music” LP, Erato delivers a carefully curated portrait that unites both Elfman’s concert-music side and his cinematic sound world in a vinyl presentation. Gautier Capuçon, the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Li Bringuier emerge as the performing forces that prominently showcase Elfman’s work on this Erato release.

At the center of the recording is Daniil Trifonov as the fully articulated focal point, performing both pianistic solo passages and arranged pieces with orchestral accompaniment; the collaboration with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra provides the orchestral foundation for this selection. The release follows the concept of his “American Story” series and connects with Trifonov’s more recent recordings and transcriptions, which reflect his engagement with South and Central American sound worlds. The LP thus offers a focused snapshot of the project and documents the musical connection between pianistic artistry and symphonic accompaniment.

The “Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique” LP by Sir Colin Davis & the Concertgebouw Orchestra is released on Deutsche Grammophon and documents one of the defining takes on this programmatic masterpiece. The recording presents Hector Berlioz’s five-movement score, regarded as a central example of Romantic program music, whose recurring motif, the idée fixe, forms the narrative core.

The music unfolds a wide range of moods, from wistful melodies and dance-like scenes to darkly intensifying episodes such as the Witches’ Sabbath. Characteristic are the contrasting orchestral colors, sharply profiled wind writing, and the dramatic conception, which Berlioz, as a narrative figure, pursues consistently through every movement. The score combines programmatic clarity with innovative orchestration.

Sir Colin Davis’s approach is marked by clear contours and carefully judged tempos; his work with the Concertgebouw Orchestra emphasizes warm string sonorities and transparent textures, allowing the score’s dramatic turns to emerge with particular clarity. This recording has established itself in the discography as an authoritative reading and is presented by Deutsche Grammophon in its catalog edition.

With the LP “D'amour Et D'alã©As,” released on the Et Labet label, Suarez present the next level of their creativity while, for the most part, staying true to their style. Suarez have established themselves on the Belgian scene as a band with a refined pop and chanson imprint; melodies with clear contours and a knack for catchy choruses are at the heart of their work. Marc Pinilla sets the tone with his warm voice, while the Malagasy-rooted musicians provide the musical foundation, giving the sound a subtly world music–influenced coloring and rhythmic vitality. The tracks are often simply arranged, placing the emphasis on acoustic instruments and narrative lyrics, allowing Suarez to build a bridge between traditional chanson culture and contemporary indie pop. These qualities have earned the group steady radio and live exposure, consolidating their place in the francophone pop landscape.

The "Éternité" LP by Grégoire Gerstmans is released on PIAS Belgium and presents the work of a pianist who deliberately explores the nuances between classical and contemporary music.

In his pieces, Gerstmans weaves a delicate fabric of pared-down piano phrases, sparingly used strings, and atmospheric stretches of calm that leave the listener room for reflection. Stylistically, it belongs to the neo-classical realm, moves at the intersection with modern chamber music, and follows an aesthetic that shows affinities with artists such as Joep Beving and Arvo Pärt without ever copying them. Thematically, the compositions revolve around time, memory, and lingering in the moment.

As a multi-instrumentalist and producer, Grégoire Gerstmans shapes the pieces with a clear signature; the production focuses on natural timbres, precise articulation, and an intimate sense of space. The release features carefully crafted arrangements that work both in solo form and in chamber-music settings, giving the album a consistent, contemplative character.

Key characteristics of this LP are the consistent reduction of musical means and the clear dramaturgy of the compositions, which mark Gerstmans as an independent voice in today's neo-classical field. The release places the focus squarely on the work itself and on the artistic signature of the performer.

The 12" Oceans For Eros, released on Blue Cloud Music and credited to Guy Barker Orchestra, Guy Barker, and Robin Katz, brings together six works for classical guitar and orchestra with a compact running time of around 27 minutes. The compositions are by Robin Katz; the orchestral arrangements and conducting are by Guy Barker OBE, placing intimate guitar studies within a broad orchestral framework.

Katz’s writing combines elements of jazz, folk, and classical music with distinctly Mediterranean imagery; track titles such as “Pantelleria” and “City of Birds” reflect these inspirations. The guitar parts are often conceived as etude-like studies and are set against a rich palette of strings and winds, so the arrangements oscillate between chamber-like delicacy and cinematic expansiveness without blurring the clarity of the melodies.

The collaboration with Guy Barker and the Guy Barker Orchestra emphasizes the dialogic character of the project: Barker’s orchestration shapes dynamic arcs and tone colors that both support and intensify Katz’s lyrical nylon‑string playing. Robin Katz, who originally worked as an art dealer, reveals in these pieces a move toward larger sonic spaces, with the exchange between nylon‑string guitar and ensemble always at the center. The 12" thus offers a focused insight into Katz’s compositional language and Barker’s feel for orchestral nuance.

From the mountains of Madrid comes Antinoë, the haunting one-woman project of pianist and vocalist Teresa Marraco. With her ethereal voice and stark, piano-driven arrangements, Antinoë shapes soundscapes where neoclassical elegance collides with the atmospheric weight of metal, weaving music that is at once fragile, immersive, and profoundly melancholic. Fans of artists like Agnes Obel or Enya will find resonance here, yet Antinoë’s world is darker, steeped in reflection, loss, and yearning.
Since its inception in 2021, Antinoë has embraced a uniquely personal approach to darkness, building her songs around intimate piano compositions intertwined with her rich, resonant voice. Marraco’s background in extreme music further anchors her vision: she has collaborated with acts such as Coldborn, Elffor, Balmog, and Empty, and recorded the piano/keyboard parts for Dimmu Borgir’s live performance of Det Nye Riket at Beyond the Gates Festival. Her 2023 debut, “Whispers from the Dark Past”, an acoustic reinterpretation of 90s Norwegian black metal classics, garnered critical attention and cemented her distinctive identity on the border between metal and neoclassical expression.
Now, Antinoë unveils her first full-length album of original material: “The Fold”. A conceptual journey that navigates the acceptance of death, tracing the process of “folding inward,” to confront different stages of grief, one by one, inviting us to walk a deeply personal path that nonetheless exposes universal themes such as existentialism and the embracing of chaos as a necessary part of oneself. With “The Fold”, Antinoë transcends genre boundaries to deliver music that is delicate, symphonic, and unflinchingly dark, an invitation to step into shadows and discover their hidden beauty.

The “The Nutcracker Suite” LP by Andrew Grams and Chineke! Orchestra is released on Decca and combines Tchaikovsky’s classical ballet music with Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s jazz-influenced rendition. It is based on their 1960 arrangement, which Jeff Tyzik adapted for large orchestra for this recording.

Andrew Grams leads Chineke! Orchestra in a live recording from London’s Royal Festival Hall, recorded in April 2022. The orchestra is joined by Alec Dankworth on double bass, Andy Panayi on saxophone, Noel Langley on trumpet, and Sacha Johnson on drums. Together, they give the suite a distinctive blend of orchestral richness, buoyant rhythms, and characteristic jazz colors.

The “Overture” immediately establishes its own accents with a swinging double bass, prominent trumpets, and a striking saxophone solo. “Sugar Rum Cherry” transforms the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy into a laid-back number driven by tom-tom rhythms, while “Peanut Brittle Brigade” closes the suite with pointed horn riffs. “Toot Toot Tootie Toot” and “Dance of the Floreadores” also draw on familiar themes, giving them a new sense of orchestral mobility.

At around 17 minutes, the LP condenses five movements into a compact sequence in which classical composition, big-band tradition, and modern orchestral work flow directly into one another.

Sammy Weissberg’s “Music for Strings and Brass” LP is released by Dear Life. The record marks Weissberg’s debut on Dear Life Records and juxtaposes two large-scale chamber works that bring together his work as a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist.

At the center is the impressionistic String Quartet No. 2, a four-movement work built around lovingly flowing melodies, distinctive chord progressions, and densely interwoven motifs; in the second movement, an outstanding violin solo pushes the quartet’s expressive range to the limits of the instrument. By contrast, the three-movement brass quintet relies on voice-like articulations and choral gestures, with Weissberg introducing passages reminiscent of big-band arrangements and Americana. The quintet movements were originally conceived as vocal pieces and still retain the form of “songs” in their structure.

For these works, Weissberg draws inspiration from late Romanticism and modernism, transforming echoes of Dvořák, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Debussy, and Nino Rota into a personal, contemporary language. Techniques he refined while arranging for artists such as The Lemon Twigs, Allegra Krieger, June McDoom, and Frances Chang find direct application in orchestral details and motivic development. The “Music for Strings and Brass” LP thus offers concentrated, fully realized chamber music distinguished by meticulous formal construction and a warm-hearted melodic voice.

The “Scarlatti: Sonatas Vol. 3” LP by Angela Hewitt is released on Hyperion and brings together another selection of Domenico Scarlatti’s keyboard sonatas, which Hewitt recorded in January 2026 at the Kulturstiftung Marienmünster. On the LP, Angela Hewitt presents selected pieces including the concluding Sonata in F minor, Kk 466, as well as Sonatas Kk 461 and Kk 420, and in the accompanying notes she explains the decisions behind her take on articulation, tempo, and phrasing. The “Scarlatti: Sonatas Vol. 3” LP places emphasis on clear articulation and a nuanced balance between virtuosic brilliance and lyrical expression, as Hewitt herself describes in the program notes.

The production is overseen by Ludger Böckenhoff, who is also credited as recording engineer; the recordings document Hewitt’s personal approach to her instrument, including her use of the fourth pedal on her Fazioli grand to shape tone color and the musical line. The program released on Hyperion features well-constructed sequences of movements and a manner of playing that highlights detail without pushing technical aspects to the foreground. For listeners following Angela Hewitt’s Scarlatti cycle, this LP adds another carefully considered recording to the series on the Hyperion label.

The “Winter Wonderland” LP by German Gents is released on Berlin Classics and presents the vocal quartet in a carefully arranged selection of Christmas pieces. The four singers, who emerged from the ranks of former members of renowned choirs, combine classical vocal technique with contemporary precision; on the album they showcase this blend in clear a cappella arrangements that encompass both German folk tunes and international evergreens. The production focuses on vocal transparency and harmonic density, allowing familiar melodies to sound in new yet still recognizable guises.

“Winter Wonderland” includes a range of well-known pieces such as “Let It Snow!”, “Last Christmas”, “O Tannenbaum” and “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht”, along with more rhythmically driven holiday numbers and multilingual contributions that cover a broad repertoire. The track selection and the stripped-down, voice-centered arrangements favor intimacy and finely detailed sound without sacrificing festive playfulness. Released in late November 2025, the album builds on the German Gents’ work to date and further refines their profile as a quartet that interprets traditional songs in a contemporary way.

The “Boy & The Heron The: Symphonic Suite For Piano And Orchestra” LP by Joe Hisaishi and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is released on Deutsche Grammophon and documents the concert version of the work as a symphonic suite for piano and orchestra. The recording places the solo piano part at the center and highlights the thematic motifs of the piece in a full orchestral treatment, with dynamic orchestral colors and precise articulations supporting the structural clarity of the suite.

The collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra continues the already established relationship between Hisaishi and the ensemble and builds on earlier projects on Deutsche Grammophon. On the LP, the score is presented in continuous orchestration that explores both delicately chamber-like passages and dense, orchestral climaxes. The production emphasizes a transparent balance between piano and ensemble so that both the melodic line and the orchestral accompaniment remain clearly audible. The conception of the “Boy & The Heron The: Symphonic Suite For Piano And Orchestra” LP centers on Hisaishi’s compositional signature and the impact of his music in a symphonic context, as presented in analog long-play format on Deutsche Grammophon.

The “Betsubara” LP by Gwen Cresens Boho Strings Antwerp is released on Verlie's Belgian Waffle and documents the concert work of the same name, composed by Gwen Cresens for accordion and string ensemble. The concert piece has been programmed alongside selected works by Bach and other composers, creating a direct connection between historical concert tradition and contemporary composition.

On the LP, the interplay between solo accordion and strings takes center stage: the production reveals chamber-musical precision and nuanced bow colors, while melodic lines and rhythmic accompaniment figures highlight Cresens’s compositional profile. Boho Strings Antwerp acts as a finely attuned accompanying ensemble that deliberately supports the solo voice and leaves room for dynamic shifts.

With “Betsubara,” Verlie's Belgian Waffle releases a work that brings together Cresens’s roles as soloist and composer and places the collaboration with Boho Strings Antwerp in the spotlight. The LP offers a focused listening experience within the classical field and adds an independent, performance-oriented document to the artist’s previous releases.

The "La Source" LP by David Norland is released on Denovali and carries the work of the Emmy-nominated composer into a calm yet structured terrain of minimalism and choral music. Known, among other things, for his 2019 album "Glam Tear Stain," Norland weaves his experience as a choirboy and film composer together with electronic elements; the result feels deliberately pared-back and carefully arranged. Denovali presents "La Source" as a contemplative, melody-focused work in which bells, flutes, and harmonic voices play a central role.

Musically, "La Source" is built on recurring patterns and formal play, with tracks like "E-Car Soul" and the title piece "La Source" highlighting the tension between choral vocals and subtly deployed electronic textures. The track list includes several variations on titles that suggest a concept of permutation and anagrammatics, adding an additional formal layer to the album. The release is complemented by remix contributions, including work by NYX and Dark Bardo, as well as a single collaboration with Nat Vazer that expands the project’s range. As an LP, "La Source" allows space for slow unfolding and fine orchestral details, which David Norland presents in cohesive form on Denovali.

The "Softenings For 7 Flutes" LP by Viibra is released on Dacapo and brings together a work created especially for the ensemble that systematically explores the sonic space of an all-flute instrumentation. The recording documents music that is less oriented toward conventional melody than toward subtle shifts in sound and formal condensations; the record places emphasis on details of articulation, breath control, and timbre that render the septet audible as a collective instrument.

The title work "Softenings for 7 flutes" was written by Danish composer Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard and conceived for Viibra; parts of the material were presented in concert premieres in which the boundaries between composition, sound art, and performative research were probed. The composition follows the guiding idea of "softenings" as a structural principle and relies on slow formal progressions, textural densifications, and precise ensemble coordination.

Viibra is a seven-piece flute ensemble originating in Reykjavík, formed in 2016 in the context of Björk’s project "Utopia" and since then dedicated to exploring extended flute techniques and sonic polyphony. Its members include, among others, Áshildur Haraldsdóttir, Berglind María Tómasdóttir, Björg Brjánsdóttir, Dagný Marinósdóttir, Sólveig Magnúsdóttir, Steinunn Vala Pálsdóttir, and Þuríður Jónsdóttir; their ensemble identity and experience from theater and touring productions shape the chamber-music precision of this release.

With the LP "Life Is A Dream," released on Decca, Anthony Hopkins presents the next level of his creativity while, by and large, staying true to his style. On the album, Hopkins reveals himself as a composer who combines cinematic breadth with intimate moments: floating melodies alternate with sparse piano passages and lush string writing that creates a narrative order without ever becoming intrusive. His musical language is rooted in classical forms, yet allows for free, almost improvisatory lines, resulting in a sound world that is personal yet accessible. The arrangements frequently rely on orchestral shadings of color and subtle harmony; individual instruments emerge as expressive soloists and contribute to the dramatic architecture of the pieces. Musically, Hopkins situates himself between classical composition and cinematic complexity, which gives the work a meditative density and a clear thematic signature. "Life Is A Dream" represents a deliberate compositional statement by an artist who confidently bridges the gap between the performing arts and music.

With the LP “Hush,” released on Deutsche Grammophon, Chad Lawson takes his creativity to the next level while largely remaining true to his style. In his work, the pianist and composer combines classical craftsmanship with modern restraint: melodies that unfold gently, clear harmonic figures, and a keen sense of space and tone color shape the pieces. The stripped-down instrumentation puts the piano front and center and allows for both delicate dynamic nuances in his touch and long, sweeping phrases that reveal the compositional architecture of each track.

Lawson’s approach stands for contemplative intensity without showmanship; short motifs grow into elegant thematic lines, while pauses and silence are employed as structural elements. The arranging follows the principle of clarity: accompanying gestures are used sparingly, harmonic changes emphasize fleeting moments and lend the melodies weight. Characteristic of Lawson as well is the balance between formal precision and improvisational openness, which gives his pieces an immediate, unobtrusive directness.

The compositions gathered on “Hush” place melodic expressiveness at the core and present Chad Lawson as a confident architect of contemporary piano music, who achieves lasting impact with restrained means.

The "Aftermath" LP by Niels Rønsholdt is released on Dacapo and brings together a conceptual song cycle that uses the American highway landscape as a projection surface for decay, loneliness, and quiet hope.

In the tracks — from "Marcy Ave" to "Memphis Motel" and "Harlem in the Morning" — on-the-road vignettes unfold that weave places and stopovers into recurring motifs. The track titles refer directly to American topographies and reinforce the album-wide guiding image of a journey through decaying cities and fractured social images.

Musically, the work moves between atmospheric rock and folk-inflected storytelling; expansive sonic spaces meet stripped-down guitar accompaniment and distinctive vocal lines. The arrangements rely more on space and mood than on lavish orchestration, allowing individual melodies and lines of text to stand out in particular. Reviews highlight the connection between tradition and contemporary compositional approaches.

As a solo project, "Aftermath" is clearly centered on the voice and playing of Niels Rønsholdt; several tracks explicitly credit him as vocalist and guitarist. The recording presents itself as a carefully conceived collection of songs that transfers the artist’s personal and political observations into a cohesive musical framework.

The release is announced as an LP and will be available at retail in spring 2026; retailer information lists May 2026 as the release month and assigns the title to the Cult Legends label.

Musically, the compilation moves within the broad field of the chanson tradition: concise melodies, vocally driven arrangements, and an emphasis on song composition and lyrical interpretation shape the program. As a compilation of several performers, the album offers a cross-section of voices and styles that have shaped the genre over decades, without preemptively foregrounding individual productions or producer names. This positioning corresponds to the genre classifications used by the listed retailers.

Key characteristics of this edition are its curatorial approach and its collector-friendly presentation as an LP; in parallel, a 3‑CD set has been announced, which further documents the compilation and suggests a more extensive edition to listeners. Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s “Antiche Arie E Danze” LP is released by Deutsche Grammophon as part of the Original Source Series. Ottorino Respighi’s three suites draw on lute music from the 16th and 17th centuries, transferring its historical melodies into a richly colored, finely detailed orchestral world. Composed between 1920 and 1932, the works combine Renaissance and Baroque sounds with Respighi’s distinctive gift for instrumentation.

Seiji Ozawa conducts the Boston Symphony Orchestra in a recording that includes, among others, “Balletto detto Il conte Orlando,” “Gagliarda,” “Danza rustica,” “Italiana,” and “Passacaglia.” The suites alternate between dance-like agility, chamber-music transparency, and expansive orchestral soundscapes. “Laura soave” and “Arie di corte” in particular demonstrate how effectively Respighi transforms historical models into a modern symphonic language.

For this release, the recording was remastered and cut for the first time from the original 1-inch, 8-track tapes. The fully analog mastering process by Emil Berliner Studios forms the basis of the LP, pressed on 180 g vinyl. A deluxe gatefold edition featuring the original liner notes, additional photos, and facsimiles of the recording logs and tape boxes complements the limited, numbered release by Deutsche Grammophon.

The “Mahler: Symphony No. 2” LP featuring Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich is released on Alpha Classics and documents the fourth installment of the ongoing Mahler cycle. In this recording, soprano Mari Eriksmoen and mezzo-soprano Anna Lucia Richter take center stage as soloists; the Zürcher Sing-Akademie complements the orchestral forces in a performance that integrates chorus and soloists equally into the orchestral sound. The production includes all five movements of the “Resurrection Symphony” and draws on the orchestra’s full forces to bring Mahler’s monumental conception to life.

Paavo Järvi describes Mahler’s Second as a gigantic work, “both in substance and in scale,” and this recording emphasizes the orchestral power and choral finale that characterize the work. Alpha Classics is releasing the interpretation as a vinyl edition; its artistic parameters correspond to those of the CD production being released at the same time, and it forms part of the ongoing complete recording of the symphonies. The “Mahler: Symphony No. 2” LP thus offers a documented snapshot of the Mahler cycle under Paavo Järvi.

Eric Whitacre’s *Eternity in an Hour* LP will be released on Decca Classics, presenting the approximately 60-minute work of the same name as a two-LP edition. Whitacre himself takes center stage on the recording as composer, conductor, and synthesizer player; the lineup includes the Eric Whitacre Singers, Emma Denton on cello, piano, and live electronics. Producer Harry Wilson was responsible for the recording, with Whitacre also serving as co-producer and additional production provided by Lesjamusic. The release is scheduled for October 23, 2026.

The piece takes William Blake’s four-line reflection from *Auguries of Innocence* as its starting point and unfolds across eight uninterrupted movements, interweaving choral density with electronic soundscapes. The LP documents the approximately hour-long version; additional compositions from the edition are included exclusively on the CD and digital releases. *Eternity in an Hour* combines Whitacre’s characteristic choral writing with a newly emphasized use of synthesizers and chamber-music passages, resulting in a focused, meditative exploration of the present and of time that expands the artist’s compositional range.

The “Hope in Shadow” LP by Sheku Kanneh-Mason is released on Decca and brings the cellist together as a soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Edward Gardner. The production captures a versatile program for cello and orchestra that ranges from the classical concert repertoire to orchestral arrangements of popular melodies.

The album includes central solo works such as the Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor by Camille Saint-Saëns alongside distinctive pieces like Max Bruch’s “Kol Nidrei” and Ernest Bloch’s “Schelomo.” The program is complemented by orchestral arrangements, including a version of the “Theme from Schindler’s List” that explores the instrument’s expressive potential in cinematic gestures. In selected pieces, transcriptions and arrangements come to the fore, lending the cello new chamber-musical colors and giving the interplay with the orchestra precisely defined space. On this recording, Sheku Kanneh-Mason assumes both the leading solo role and finely tuned, dialog-like passages with the strings of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, while Edward Gardner sharpens the contours of the program sequence. The production is aimed at listeners of classical orchestral music who are interested in the conjunction of concert works and carefully crafted arrangements.

The “Beethoven: String Quartet No. 16 – The Final Statement” LP by Quartet Integra is released on Yarlung and documents the performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 16 in F major, Op. 135. With this release, Quartet Integra presents a key late work by Beethoven on LP and uses the title “The Final Statement” as a programmatic reference to the historical status of this quartet. This edition clearly centers on the single work and makes the formal and contrapuntal subtleties of the sequence of movements audible, so that the structure between the Larghetto introduction and the tightly constructed finale is sharply delineated.

The subtitle “The Final Statement” refers to the position of Opus 135 as Beethoven’s last fully completed string quartet; this perspective forms the interpretive framework of the recording. Quartet Integra approaches the material with an emphasis on balance of sound and articulatory clarity, thereby highlighting the dialogic interplay between the parts. The LP by Quartet Integra released on Yarlung is thus a deliberate presentation of this endpoint of the quartet repertoire and offers listeners a focused, work-centered interpretation of late Beethoven.

The 13‑track collection places a strong emphasis on vocal nuance and finely wrought polyphony.

The "East Meets West" LP by Anne Akiko Meyers is released on Avie and presents the violinist in dialogue with pianist Li Jian. The program on this Avie release combines classical sonata repertoire by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel with contemporary works by Japanese composers, focusing on the exchange between two musical worlds. Anne Akiko Meyers shapes the repertoire with precise articulation and nuanced sound, while Li Jian explores the piano part with sensitive accompaniment and contrapuntal balance.

The recording includes the world premiere recording of Somei Satoh’s "Birds in Warped Time II," as well as Olivier Messiaen’s "Thème et variations" and Toru Takemitsu’s "Distance de Fée," complemented by the violin sonatas by Debussy and Ravel. Producer David Frost and recording engineer Tim Martyn captured the sessions in Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood; recorded over the course of two days, the album emphasizes transparency and space for dynamic subtleties. The "East Meets West" LP on Avie thus offers a thoughtfully curated program that places familiar sonata repertoire alongside modern musical idioms and clearly highlights Anne Akiko Meyers’s commitment to contemporary music and her ear for stylistic contrasts.

The “Haydn 2032 Vol. 17 Per Il Luigi” LP by Kammerorchester Basel is released on Alpha and continues Giovanni Antonini’s concept-driven Haydn series. This volume brings together early symphonies that reveal Haydn’s intention to showcase the virtuosic abilities of his colleagues in the Esterházy orchestra. At the center of the program is Symphony No. 13 in D major with four horns, which reveals surprising thematic connections, as well as the Violin Concerto in C major, dedicated “fatto per il Luigi” to Luigi Tomasini.

Musically, Giovanni Antonini’s direction together with Kammerorchester Basel shapes a clear sense of line and a chamber-like ensemble blend, while the young Baroque violinist Dmitry Smirnov, as soloist, interprets the violin concerto with evident technical command and expressive agogics. The production fits into the artistic vision of the Haydn2032 project, which assembles selected programs according to thematic rather than strictly chronological criteria. The LP version also offers additional editorial material for the edition, including a longer accompanying essay prepared for the vinyl edition of Vol. 17. With this installment, Alpha and Kammerorchester Basel present a focused contribution to the exploration of Haydn’s early works.

The "American Tunes #1" LP by Anne‑Sophie Mutter is released on Alpha Classics and presents selected works by American composers in a tightly woven chamber‑music program on record.

At the center is André Previn with his Concerto for Violin and String Orchestra, complemented by harpsichord interludes in which Knut Johannessen and Mutter's Virtuosi participate as equal partners. The instrumentation underscores the connection between orchestral gesture and delicately wrought chamber music, spanning a bridge between tradition and a highly personal sound world.

Sebastian Currier's "Ringtone Variations" provides a contemporary counterpoint on the LP: the concept of the piece works with familiar sonic fragments and is interpreted here by Anne‑Sophie Mutter in a duo with double bassist Roman Patkoló. The program is rounded out by a trio by André Previn with Daniel Müller‑Schott on cello and Lambert Orkis on piano, combining chamber‑music intimacy with compositional refinement.

The compilation highlights different facets of the American musical language — from melodic warmth and orchestral writing to pointed modernity — and places Anne‑Sophie Mutter at the center as an interpreter who brings together both classical lines and contemporary impulses.

The “Der Nussknacker” LP by Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic is released on Warner and documents Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet in its complete orchestral version. The recording places the focus on the distinctive dance scenes — from the Sugar Plum Fairy to the flower and march movements — and translates the work’s narrative finesse into clear orchestral images.

Sir Simon Rattle leads the orchestra with a take on transparency and balance that emphasizes the wealth of detail in the woodwind and string writing as well as the subtle colors of the percussion. This reading brings out rhythmic subtleties and the contrasting tone colors of the individual dances without diluting the ballet’s dramatic architecture.

As an LP, this edition offers a physical document of the recording that preserves the orchestral dynamics and the delicate textures of the arrangement. For collectors and lovers of classical ballet music, the production serves as a reliable reference that accurately captures both Tchaikovsky’s compositional variety and Sir Simon Rattle’s interpretive signature.

With the LP “Amour,” released on Sony, Esther Abrami presents the next level of her creativity while, on the whole, remaining true to her style. In this context, Abrami appears as a violinist and arranger whose playing links classical virtuosity with a contemporary approach; her tone is at once direct and nuanced, allowing traditional melodic writing and modern production techniques to merge in an elegant way.

Characteristic of Abrami are carefully crafted arrangements for string ensembles and orchestra, as well as collaborations with ensembles that direct their interpretive focus toward women composers and rediscovered works. Her musical signature shows a clear preference for narrative arcs, expressive lines, and a production that brings out voices and instrumental colors with clarity. In this way, “Amour” joins the body of work of an artist who reimagines classical forms and adds a contemporary perspective to the repertoire.

The “OST Spider-Noir Prime Original Series” compiles selections from the original music for the Prime Video series and presents the score work of Kris Bowers & Michael Dean Parsons on an LP on Masterworks. The collection combines film score writing with vocal interludes: opening the album is “Saving Grace” by Kirby; also included are a cover version of “Dream a Little Dream of Me” and “The Devils You Know,” written by Oak Felder and Sebastian Kole and sung by Li Jun Li.

Musically, the work moves between classic noir-style jazz and modern orchestral suspense; this blend creates a sound world that links the 1930s atmosphere of the source material with contemporary film score dramaturgy. The arrangements alternate between muted jazz forms and sweeping orchestral textures, supporting both intimate scenes and large-scale moments.

Kris Bowers brings his experience from scores such as “Bridgerton” and “Green Book” to the collaboration, while Michael Dean Parsons has already worked on major television projects; the duo combines melodic clarity with dramatic texture without unnecessary effect. For listeners who appreciate delicate themes and noir-inspired sounds, the LP offers a dense, stylistically assured listening experience.

Vasco Mendonça’s *Third Places* brings together striking performances of contemporary works and unites voices and orchestras that enjoy high international esteem in today’s music scene. Featured performers include countertenor Iestyn Davies, mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, the ensemble Het Muziek, and conductors Brad Lubman and Ernest Martínez Izquierdo; the release appears on Holuzam as an LP.

The album is more than a collection of recordings; it presents itself as a space for artistic and political reflection. Mendonça explicitly draws on Ray Oldenburg’s concept of the “third place” and situates the pieces in performance venues such as Casa da Música and the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ—places of exchange, encounter, and resistance that, for the composer, symbolically stand for the possibility of strengthening dialogue and shared responsibility.

The voice stands at the center of the program. Mendonça explores theatrical, intimate, and political dimensions of vocal expression and uses texts of great social urgency. A central work emerged from his engagement with the political climate in the United States after 2016; based on poems by Terrance Hayes and Tracy K. Smith, he originally wrote songs for voice and percussion, which he later arranged for orchestra—“a kind of imaginary American folklore,” as the composer describes it.

Mendonça also reworks material from the opera *Bosch Beach* (libretto by Dimitri Verhulst), written in 2016 for the Jheronimus Bosch 500 commemorative projects, transforming scenes from the opera into pointed reflections on populism, campaign mechanisms, and performative communication. Taken as a whole, *Third Places* combines contemplative calm with political sharpness, making it one of the most ambitious projects in contemporary Portuguese music.

“Sing Me Home” by Yo-Yo Ma is released by Music On Vinyl as an elaborately produced double LP and documents the work of the Silk Road Ensemble in a physical edition that emphasizes the project’s polyphonic, multi-voiced character. The record brings together traditional songs and newly arranged pieces developed by members of the ensemble; it is also available as a special colored edition.

Musically, the ensemble moves between classical chamber music and global folk music, weaving instruments such as sheng, shakuhachi, and regional wind instruments together with violin, cello, and guitar. The recordings and arrangements aim at a dense, richly textured sonic world in which Yo‑Yo Ma, as the cellist, acts as part of a collective sonic fabric and does not always stand in the foreground. This form of cross-cultural exchange was conceived as the album’s guiding principle.

Key features of the release are the prominent guest contributions and the production: voices such as Rhiannon Giddens, Sarah Jarosz, Abigail Washburn, Gregory Porter, Lisa Fischer, as well as guitarist Bill Frisell expand the ensemble; production duties were handled by ensemble member Johnny Gandelsman and multiple award-winning engineer Kevin Killen. The recording was created as a companion project to the documentary film about the ensemble and went on to win a Grammy.

This edition is aimed at listeners interested in the intersection of classical performance practice and global musical diversity, and it presents the collective signature of the Silk Road project in a carefully edited LP format.
