FREITAG Accessories

The year was 1993, when brothers Daniel and Markus Freitag, in search of a functional, water-repellent and hard-wearing bag, developed the original version of the iconic F13 TOP CAT messenger bag from disused truck tarpaulin, discarded bicycle inner tubes and car seat belts. This FREITAG F13 TOP CAT bag was so groundbreaking that ten years later it was included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. From the realization of an innovative idea, FREITAG grew into a company that today brings unique bags made from recycled materials onto the market from Europe to Asia. For over three decades now, FREITAG bags have not only stood for design and functionality, but also for the resource-saving use of materials and durability.

But FREITAG is not satisfied with this success: in 2014, FREITAG developed its first completely recyclable material as part of the F-ABRIC clothing line. The biodegradable textiles made from hemp, linen and modal were developed in-house from the ground up, and these FREITAG materials are produced with minimal use of resources within a radius of 2,500 km around the headquarters in Zurich.

In 2015, on the occasion of the “FREITAG ad Absurdum” exhibition at the Lausanne design museum mudac, FREITAG drafted a manifesto that is considered a plea for conscious, sensible production and consumption and, in a slightly adapted version, is still the brand’s guiding principle today.
