Mundian To Bach Ke" is a bhangra track produced by British musician Panjabi MC, featuring vocals and lyrics by Punjabi artist Labh Janjua. Originally recorded in Birmingham, England, for Panjabi MC's 1998 album Legalised, the song gained international acclaim upon its re-release as a single in November 2002.

The track is notable for its fusion of traditional bhangra elements with contemporary hip-hop influences. It incorporates the bassline and beat from Busta Rhymes' 1997 song "Fire It Up," which itself samples the theme from the television series Knight Rider, composed by Glen A. Larson and Stu Phillips. The lyrics, delivered in Punjabi, caution young women to be wary of the intentions of young men.

In 2003, a remix titled "Beware of the Boys" featured American rapper Jay-Z, further propelling the song's popularity. This version reached number 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 10 in Canada, and number 12 in Australia.

The collaboration between Panjabi MC and Jay-Z is often credited with introducing bhangra music to a broader Western audience, blending Eastern and Western musical styles.

The song has been featured in various media, including films like Bulletproof Monk (2003) and The Dictator (2012), as well as video games such as Dance Central 3 and Just Dance 4. Brian Bennett, Solstice. This hard to find jazz funk fusion classic finally finds its way back on to 45. Originally limited to a Spanish only 1978 pressing this almost genre defining song has been highly sought after by DJ’s and producers alike. Bennett’s in the pocket groove underscores a futuristic synth lead which characterises the forward looking sound of the time. Sample spotters will easily recognise the lead in synth and classic bassline which have been used many times over, including tracks by NAS, Lootpack, Benny the Butcher and Kaytranada to name a few. Dorothy Ashby, Soul Vibrations. The leading track on Ashby’s much sought after 1968 AfroHarping album is now available for the first time on 45. Part jazz, part funk with a heavy does of psych the jazz harpist’s melodic sound travels over the heavy backbeat of the drums and an overlay of flutes providing a pulsive rhythmic structure. Sampled on tracks by Mac Miller, GZA and Aceyalone.

First released back in 2004 on the iconic Freestyle Records, "Get It On" is a bonafide cut & paste classic, looping up some well loved old school samples into a new school dance floor bomb - drop this anywhere and watch the place erupt. Guaranteed party vibes as always from Muscle Cuts!

Over on the flip, "Hipness" dates back even further - all the way back to 1992 when DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, Coldcut and many more rinsed it on a mysterious white label. Still sounding fresh 32 years later its the perfect example of Sleeve's deft skill of weaving well loved samples to create something completely new.

Back in the 90’s, hiphop kids like myself would often gravitate towards bands like Portishead to take a break from hip hop without going on a complete vacation. Since the sampled drums were gritty and the instrumentation and singing were soulful, it gave people that familiar hiphop vibe while being completely unique.

Now, Portishead’s style and influence can be heard everywhere in modern music as a legendary group who led the way for “trip hop”, fusing hiphop, electronic, film scores, and soul music in rare form. Included in this limited run (green vinyl) 7” are Kero 1 remixes of their quintessential tracks, “Glory Box” and “Roads”. On Glory Box, Kero mashes togehter a mixture of Bossa, Amapiano and house for dance floor energy along with the previously released Roads remix on the B-side, which reached a million streams online with critical acclaim for not destroying the original but actually elevating it. On Roads, Kero adds a fuller dimension using a 80’s analog synth bass while still allowing the lead vocalist, Beth, to remain the focus. In the end, Kero hopes this remix renews interest in Portishead among listeners who aren’t familiar with an entire music genre they helped pioneer.

dancefloor classics down a different lane.
On the A side he goes back to where LL didn’t think he was gonna go back to in ’89,
but in a straight Brooklyn way, yet he picks up that west coast pop lock feelin’ and

a funky twist takin’ it straight to the dancefloor.

Ode To Native Tongues” attempts to capture the feeling of coming of age between the years of
1989 -1993 (and beyond) while listening and witnessing the legendary Native Tongues crew
releasing timeless classic albums and singles. Told through the experience of seeing the early
episodes of “Yo! MTV Raps”, a friend sharing De La Soul’s first album, sharing that album with
my cousin who in exchange shared Queen Latifah’s music or finding out about “Bonita
Applebum” by Tribe at my high school’s homecoming dance. Evoking nostalgia as well as tell
a story of how this music served as the soundtrack woven into the fabric of my youth, my
coming of age, was the aim.
SIDE B: EVERYTHING'S FOR SALE (GOTTA GET IT)
Everything’s For Sale” was inspired partly by a story of an elderly couple who went
brokhaving to pay for their medicine.“Everything’s For Sale” speaks to how the value of
money permeates all facets of this modern life, and as such it seemed only natural for it to
reach into my creative world. This time however I wanted to make a song that cross examined
how this super ficiality has affected music culture, let alone how it has rendered some in our
society invisible -- a clear sign of a society void of compassion. The Platurn beat with a
moving guitar riff pushed this song further, providing me the cover of a funky beat to dive into
a topic that might not normally move an audience. Part cheat code for slipping in a conscious
message to the audience without raising the alarm of the listener who may not be expecting
anything more than entertainment

2024 was a big year for Regulate Recordings and their sister club night “Shake Your Rump”. DJ Deviant’s “The Rhythm” & “Make Em Bounce” burned up dance floors in spring, “Summer Jam” saw Atomphunk & Deviant team up with Seattle MCs Mugs and Pockets to devastating effect. “Summer Jam” lit up the second half of the year with support from the Allergies, Boca45 and 6 Music and was included in Craig Charles’s “Funkiest Tracks of 2024”. Regulate move into the new year by setting off two certified bangers. Master of the decks DJ Deviant is back on production duties; lead track “Get On The Floor” sees him once again collaborating with Swamburger (Mugs and Pockets) for a full force party starter. The production pulls influences from the earliest days when hip hop and disco were joined at the hip, with nods to The Sugar Hill Gang and The Furious Five, as well as the Golden Age and artists like Chubb Rock and Big Daddy Kane. Swamburger’s machine gun delivery and Deviant’s sharp cuts pull the track right into 2025 for maximum impact. Flip side “Where’s The Party Clap” is a big trunk of cut and paste funk with a popping bass line, horns, claps, cuts and a groove that just doesn’t quit.

“Refuse”: A unique sound that could be described as “Breakbeat Soul" O.Love's instruments and vocal prowess take centre stage, showcasing a fusion of live instruments & soulful vocals re-arranged and remixed with original breaks and beats by DJ DSK!

"Tonight": A catchy rootsy original reggae tune, featuring lyrics that exude positivity and soulfulness. It receives the remix treatment from DJ DSK, who infuses it with heavy beats and luscious dub elements. The result is a speaker-shaking, dancefloor rocker!
