Soundpieces: Da Antidote! is the debut album by California hip-hop group Lootpack, consisting of Madlib, Wildchild, and DJ Romes, released on June 29, 1999 via Stones Throw Records. It is widely regarded as a cornerstone of late-1990s underground hip-hop and a landmark in Madlib’s career, marking his first full-length production showcase. Lootpack emerged from Oxnard, California, a creative hub that also produced artists like Oh No, MED, and Declaime—all of whom appear as guests on this record.

The sound of Soundpieces: Da Antidote! is defined by dusty samples, jazz and funk fragments, intricate drum programming, and a warm, analog atmosphere. Madlib’s production relies heavily on layered sample collages and vintage drum breaks, complemented by DJ Romes’ scratches and cuts, while Wildchild delivers sharp, rhythmically precise rhymes. Lyrically, the album focuses on classic hip-hop themes: preserving authenticity, battling weak MCs, and celebrating the art of “crate diggin’,” the practice of searching through vinyl bins for rare samples. The track “Crate Diggin’” itself pays direct homage to that tradition and has become one of Lootpack’s signature cuts.

The album contains 21 tracks with a total running time of about 78 minutes. Guest appearances include Dilated Peoples (“Long Awaited”), Oh No, MED, Declaime, Kazi, and Tha Alkaholiks, all associated with the Stones Throw collective. One of the standout tracks, “Episodes,” runs nearly nine minutes and features a posse of Oxnard-area MCs, encapsulating the scene’s collaborative spirit.

Musically, Soundpieces: Da Antidote! represents intelligent, sample-driven West Coast underground rap, intentionally distancing itself from the glossy mainstream sound of the late ’90s. Critics praised Madlib’s imaginative, jazz-infused production and the album’s cohesive atmosphere, though some noted its length and density. Nevertheless, it has come to be recognized as one of the defining Stones Throw releases—a foundation for Madlib’s later experiments as Quasimoto, Madvillain, and Yesterday’s New Quintet.

Ultimately, Soundpieces: Da Antidote! marked the beginning of a new era: it introduced Madlib as a visionary producer, established Stones Throw Records as a home for boundary-pushing hip-hop, and brought the Oxnard underground scene to international attention. Logan S. Washington (a.k.a. Skell) was born in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York City. His earliest hip-hop influence was A Tribe Called Quest, which helped shape his love for storytelling, rhythm, and perspective. By age 10, Logan had already begun writing, rhyming and describing the world around him before the inner city fully took hold. At 12, when his mother and father relocated the family to Charlotte, North Carolina, he leaned deeper into his craft, sharpening his skills and making a name for himself by killing cyphers in school and throughout the city.

At 15 years old, he met his mentor and producer Brian Dunovant, a turning point that helped define his musical direction. Soon after, Logan released his East Side cult classic „Icebergs" (1998), featuring Ekips, Tuff M.C., Peaches, K.I.M. and Supreme Killa. The project gained traction quickly, leading to interviews on Power 98 and performances at the legendary Sugar Shack. From that moment on, Logan was on his way, grounded in authenticity, lyricism and purpose.

Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is the debut album by the Wu-Tang Clan, released on November 9, 1993, through Loud Records and RCA Records. It is widely regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop albums of all time and marked a turning point for the East Coast rap scene of the early 1990s. The title refers to classic kung fu films, especially The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, symbolizing the group’s spiritual and combative energy. Producer and mastermind RZA designed the Wu-Tang Clan as a revolutionary concept: nine MCs — RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa — performing as one unit while simultaneously pursuing solo careers on different labels. This “five-year plan,” as RZA called it, became a blueprint for how hip-hop collectives could operate as both a group and a network of individual artists.

Musically, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is raw, unpolished, and uncompromising. RZA produced nearly all of the beats with minimal equipment, which gave the album its distinct lo-fi and gritty sound. He combined hard, crackling drum loops with samples from soul and funk records, along with snippets of dialogue from old kung fu movies. HHV exclusive vinyl edition limited to 100 copies. Back in 1996 "Killa Instinct" was set to be a smash, Raw Breed had all the boroughs of New York on lock. "Killa Instinct" had the makings of a classic, with features from @icet, @shafiqhusayn, @guru.jazzmatazz, @real_godfather_don & @agallahthedon and production handled by the legendary @tr_ultralife, @shafiqhusayn, @real_godfather_don, @ommaskeith and Ariel Caban.

But right before the album was about to come out, Warner called the crew into the office and said they had good and bad news: Raw Breed could take the album to another label, or be given a budget to record a new one – either way they couldn’t put this album out. Warner was giving out nice budgets at the time, so Raw Breed recorded "Blood, Sweat & Tears" instead leaving "Killa Instinct" in the vaults for the time being.

Back in 2017 the album was finally released by our friends @dustanddoperecordings and @back2dasourcerecords in limited fashion. A lot of people missed out back then so we are proud to announce a limited reissue on vinyl and CD. Shoutout to @daclassicrawbreed and @marclivegiveand for making this happen.

Dogg Food by Tha Dogg Pound — the duo of Daz Dillinger and Kurupt — was released on October 31, 1995 through Death Row Records, in partnership with Interscope and Priority Records. On Black Vinyl. The album stands as one of the key milestones of West Coast hip hop and a defining moment of the Death Row era. Musically, it is steeped in G-funk, characterized by thick, rolling basslines, funky synths, melodic keyboard lines, and a smooth yet menacing groove. CHROMAKOPIA is the eighth studio album by Tyler, the Creator, released on October 28, 2024 via Columbia Records. As with his earlier works, Tyler took full creative control—writing, producing, and arranging the entire record himself. Musically, CHROMAKOPIA blends hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and soul, evoking the warmth and introspection of Flower Boy and Igor. Guest appearances include Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, LaToiya Williams, Lil Wayne, Lola Young, Santigold, ScHoolboy Q, Sexyy Red, and Teezo Touchdown, with Playboi Carti featured on physical editions.

Surely, with Dre as executive producer and guest shots from Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Dre himself, Xzibit was virtually assured of acquiring the mainstream success that eluded him on previous efforts (At The speed Of Life 40 dayz & 40 nightz). Thanks largely to Dre's knob-twisting input, Restless became aural kin to Dre's own 2001 comeback vehicle, as the head-nod factor is immediately established on "Front To Back," the heavenly synth stabs "X," and "Get Your Walk On."Tthe main flaw in Restless' formula lies primarily with Xzibit's extensive list of guest collaborators. While contributions from Dre ("U Know"), Snoop ("D.N.A."), and Eminem ("Don't Approach Me") are all welcomed, appearances from DJ Quik and KRS-One, among many others, take the focus off Xzibit's formidable lyrical boasting, which precludes restless from forming a desired level of cohesiveness. On "X," Xzibit pledges to "rearrange the game with my rugged sound," and he periodically delivers on that promise. However, it would have taken nothing short of a masterpiece for Xzibit to appease hip-hop's finicky masses. Marble blue vinyl.

Logan S. Washington (a.k.a. Skell) was born in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York City. His earliest hip-hop influence was A Tribe Called Quest, which helped shape his love for storytelling, rhythm, and perspective. By age 10, Logan had already begun writing, rhyming and describing the world around him before the inner city fully took hold. At 12, when his mother and father relocated the family to Charlotte, North Carolina, he leaned deeper into his craft, sharpening his skills and making a name for himself by killing cyphers in school and throughout the city.

At 15 years old, he met his mentor and producer Brian Dunovant, a turning point that helped define his musical direction. Soon after, Logan released his East Side cult classic „Icebergs" (1998), featuring Ekips, Tuff M.C., Peaches, K.I.M. and Supreme Killa. The project gained traction quickly, leading to interviews on Power 98 and performances at the legendary Sugar Shack. From that moment on, Logan was on his way, grounded in authenticity, lyricism and purpose.

We are excited to present Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes’ “What Kinda Music” – an astonishing collaboration between two artists of very different disciplines, and one of the most unique and seamlessly original projects of its ilk to date.

Moving fluidly through sleek electronica, avant-garde jazz, vintage hip hop and so much more, Misch and Dayes take you on a journey that is by turns surprising and spontaneous, heady and head spinning, and nothing less than compelling – a singular vision which fuses the DNA of both musicians with spectacular results, as can be seen in the title track, which comes backed by a gorgeously atmospheric video by XX.

Even though the fundamental bones of this project came together very quickly, its actual provenance stretches back much, much farther back, with the pair not only growing up in the same area of South East London, but Misch actually seeing Dayes play on drums in the school talent show for the first time when he was roughly 8 or 9. They both kept tabs on each other – Misch becoming a fan of Dayes’ act Yussef Kamaal, Dayes clocking his videos in 2014 – but it was only when they met at a launch party for Misch’s debut LP “Geography” in 2018 that the proverbial creative sparks began to fly. “As a musician you’re always looking for contemporaries who can push you and challenge you and make you better”, says Dayes. “I instantly felt that with Tom – he was such a gifted musician, and so prolific”. That summer they decided to go into the studio together, jam a little, and see what happens, with no other expectation placed upon it.

As it turns out, the music came fast and furiously. Two initial tracks were suddenly followed by a handful of others, and the pair found themselves contemplating what to do next. “Pretty soon, we knew that something was gelling”, Dayes says. “It didn’t feel like a one-off collaboration, it felt like a body of work”. What made the pair click, according to Misch and Dayes, were the exact same factors that meant it shouldn’t, by all rights, work. Misch says, “Yussef comes from a more experimental background, and he has a lot of loose, crazy ideas. I know how to write a catchy melody, but with interesting chords and have a good understanding of popular song forms, so I think I streamlined those ideas and made them accessible”. And certainly, in “What Kinda Music” you can sense the DNA of both musicians, but fusing so effortlessly and beautifully that it creates something else entirely, the appropriately named “Lift Off” sending goosebumps with its jazz flecked crescendo, and “Night Rider” hynotising with its deeply mesmeric grooves. “I have a love for harmony and chords”, Misch adds. “Working with someone like Yussef, who has such a gifted sense of rhythm allowed a perfect balance”.

Throughout the record, there is an utterly joyful feel of two musicians at the top of their game sparking off one another, picking up ideas and running with them – zigging where the other zags, ebbing where the other flows, with Misch producing the majority of the record and both having a hand in the overall sound and feel of the record.

“Working with Yussef has actually changed the way I work as a musician”, Misch muses. “He’s pushed me and unlocked a more experimental part of me that I hadn’t really allowed myself to explore before. I think we really did impact each other in a fundamental way”. Dayes is similarly effusive in his praise for Misch. “A musician like him, who’s at the top of his game, he doesn’t need to do this”, he raves. “He can just keep doing the same thing and why not? He’s killing it. The fact that he’s so humble, that he’s so curious about everything and open to collaboration, speaks a lot to him as an artist, because it’s not easy finding musicians who want to collaborate. Something always gets in the way, whether it’s ego or their team or whatever. But with Tom it felt like the intention was purely creative, and that’s what made it exciting”. In fact, Dayes says that the intentions of the record go even deeper than just music. “Both our parents who’d never met each other before, are now best friends as a result of this, they now see each other more than we do! I’d like to think, in some small way, that this album has a similar impact for people too – everything feels so divided these days, it would be nice for people to hear the record and hear two very different musicians coming together and realise it doesn’t have to be that way”.

Over thirty years ago in 1994, Hard 2 Obtain caught fire with its smash underground single “L.I. Groove,” a
tune that affirmed through a Rakim sample that the trio represented “New York, from Long Island.” On the
strength of H20’s newfound respect among Hip Hop’s cypher legions, H2O dropped their debut album “Ism
and Blues” to explore three true loves: weed, women, and Hip-Hop. The album reflects this triple love affair,
combining hazy funk and jazz echoes with a rapper’s delight format. MCs Taste and DL are B-Boys in the
traditional sense, playing off each other nicely with call-and-response rhymes, and cuts provided by DJ
Six-Seven.
In addition to the standout lead single “L.I. Groove”, other standout tracks include the horn-heavy “Ghetto
Diamond”, a fortified ode to beautiful women of a Hip-Hop persuasion, and “Heels Without Souls” fuses
Hip-Hop and the R&B-styled vocals of Vinia Mojica (Tribe Called Quest) with some flair. This largely
slept-on album also features a guest appearance from New Jersey underground stalwarts the Artifacts and
boasts production from the Stimulated Dummies aka SD50s (beatmakers for K.M.D., Brand Nubian,
Grand Puba), Roc Raida (X-Ecutioners), and DJ Nastee. The album, rooted in jazz, R&B, and an
old-school Hip-Hop aesthetic, caught a ripple of popularity with the non-mainstream Hip-Hop audience, but,

In the early 1990s, South Central Cartel made a huge impact with their iconic albums, such as N Gatz We Truss and S.C.C. Presents Murder Squad Nationwide.

Between 1992 and 1995, the group released a total of five albums, whether under the name S.C.C., Murder Squad, or as the Havoc & Prodeje duo. These projects are now considered West Coast rap classics.

Fans are well acquainted with these albums and their legendary tracks, but a sixth project was supposed to be released during the same period.

Recorded in the early ’90s and kept in the South Central Cartel archives, these tracks had never been released… until now. A promotional cassette, titled M Squad Compilation and featuring a few tracks from this project, had been produced to showcase the group to record labels at the time. However, it was never distributed to the public.

This project was originally intended to be released as a full album, but the label in charge of the project was sold, and the release never happened.
