The latest album by Fennesz is a masterpiece overflowing with indescribable supreme nostalgia and melancholia, continuing the lineage of his earlier work, Venture (2014), and echoing the epoch-making album Endless Summer (2001), which solidified his name. Six tracks, equipped with majestic textures and wonderful melodies, intertwine over a lush digital soundscape. A new, profoundly moving masterpiece has emerged that could only be created by Fennesz.

Using guitar and computer, Fennesz creates a dazzling, swirling electronic sound with a remarkably broad and complex musicality. His fresh, luminous compositions are far from bland computer experiments; they delicately capture the ecology of rainforest insects and natural atmospheric phenomena, each work infused with its own unique naturalism.

The Brand New Heavies' album "Heavy Rhyme Experience Vol.1" remains widely listened to even more than 30 years after its release, as an innovative work that connected UK club jazz with US hip-hop through collaborations with artists and bands like Main Source, The Pharcyde, Gang Starr, and Black Sheep. From this historic album, two significant tracks, 'Soul Flower feat. The Pharcyde' and 'It's Gettin Hectic feat. Gang Starr,' are being released for the first time as 7-inch singles.

Limited edition of 300 copies.

Would there have been a Nujabes without the Specifics? Definitely, but that doesn’t take anything away from one of the finest examples of lo-fi hip-hop during its original golden age. The Montreal group released their debut album, Lonely City, in 2004, over a decade before YouTube streams with millions of viewers brought lo-fi hip-hop to the public consciousness. Despite its age, the album still sounds fresh; jazzy samples, mellow beats, and downtempo rhymes combine to create a sound both relaxing and intriguing, perfect whether you want to put it on as you study, or sit down and really listen to it. In the two decades since its initial release, the Specifics have gained high praise in the lo-fi hiphop scene, with appearances on albums such as the Nujabes compiled “modal soul classics by Nujabes” and the posthumous tribute “modal soul classics II-dedicated to…Nujabes”. But at the end of the day, it all comes back to Lonely City. With unmistakable analog warmth, and the iconic original artwork once again adorning the cover, this album has never looked or sounded this good. Don’t miss Lonely City, available with a Japanese obi-strip for the first time ever, only from P-vine Records!

In 1969, Sahib Shihab and five leading members of the Clarke-Boland Big Band, including Francy Boland, Jimmy Woode, Kenny Clarke, and Fats Sadi, recorded this album for West Germany's Vogue label. The album features the exquisite Latin jazz track "Seeds," the waltz number "Peter's Waltz" dedicated to his son, and the modal piece "Mauve." Each track is highly stylish and sophisticated, showcasing a pinnacle of European jazz that could only be achieved by this exceptional lineup.

Shonen Knife brought a playfully odd, electronicaesque, cold synth flair to Japan's early-80s punk scene with Minna Tanoshiku (Everybody Happy), which here hears a reissue via P-Vine. The Japanese trio have always commanded a rare balance of humour and joy with lo-fi and noise, producing a surrealism comparable to a lo-fi version of ESG, albeit with less funk and more headnod. Curious subject matters from food to animals to happiness abound on this originally cassette-exclusive album, communicated by warbling effected vocals and a dark-cutesy veneer.

In the four years since Green’s initial release, Robohands, AKA. London-based composer/multi-instrumentalist Andy Baxter has released two more albums, quickly becoming a leading force in London’s growing Jazz scene. Compared to his post-bop, avant inspired contemporaries, Baxter’s music is laid back, a modern reincarnation of cool jazz that perhaps might feel more at home being called “chill” than “cool”. With repeating riffs, spacy delay, and warm synth pads, this album blurs the lines between jazz, funk, post-rock, and ambient music to create an album more concerned about mood than genre. Its original pressing sold out almost instantly, and with the prices they’re fetching on the second hand market, we knew we had to repress it! Don’t miss this limited edition repressing of Robohands’ ‘Green’ on limited edition clear green vinyl, available only from P-vine Records!

Incognito, led by Bluey, was formed in 1979 and has since become a highly influential band, widely regarded as one of the key figures in the realms of acid jazz and jazz funk. Their impact remains strong and respected to this day. Their two albums which released in P-vine in early 2010's is available on vinyl for the first time!

The album Surreal, released in 2012, introduced new guest members such as Mo Brandis, Natalie Williams, giving the band a fresh perspective compared to their previous works. João Caetano joined as the new percussionist, adding an even more perfect groove to Incognito's already highly accomplished sound. This brought a significant change to Surreal, surpassing the usual additions of guest performers. Maysa Leak, the "Voice of Incognito," also contributes to two tracks on this album.

The four albums left by legendary saxophonist Clifford Jordan in the 1990s, during the mature phase of his career, were recorded for Maple Shade Records, a label known for its commitment to high sound quality. These albums are now being reissued by P-vine with new packaging, available on both CD and vinyl.

The first release in this series is a live recording from 1987, captured during a quartet performance at a jazz club in Baltimore. The album features a mix of jazz standards like "’Round Midnight" (Thelonious Monk) and "Don’t Get Around Much Anymore" (Duke Ellington), alongside some of Jordan's own compositions, all delivered with a lyrical and sophisticated performance. The recording, produced and engineered by Pierre Sprey, employs minimal miking and high-quality cables, creating an extraordinary level of clarity and presence that makes it difficult to believe this is a live recording. The result is a live album of exceptional quality that stands as one of the key live recordings of his career. This is the first-ever vinyl release of this album worldwide.

Weldon Irvine, known for releasing numerous masterpieces in the 1970s, including Spirit Man from RCA Victor and Sinbad, which features his signature track "I Love You" is the artist behind The Sisters. This album brings together recordings made during the same period, alongside collaborators like Don Blackman, with whom he worked closely, and a young Marcus Miller. Despite being created in the late 70s, these tracks remained unreleased until 1998.

The album opens with "Morning Sunrise," a sublime mellow soul track featuring Don Blackman's smooth vocals, which were later sampled by artists like Jay-Z and Drake. It also includes "The Sisters," a track driven by Marcus Miller's groovy bass and Tom Browne’s sharp trumpet phrasing, as well as "Think I'll Stay A While," showcasing the powerful voice of Tony Smith. Had this album been released in the 70s, it would have effortlessly matched the quality of Irvine’s contemporaneous works. With newly remastered sound and a Japanese obi strip, this release offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy a hidden gem from that era.

Main Source’s Legendary 1991 Album Breaking Atoms Gets Its First Ever Japanese OBI-Strip Vinyl Release!

The iconic debut album Breaking Atoms by Main Source, widely regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces of ‘90s hip-hop, is finally being released on vinyl in Japan with an OBI-strip edition for the first time!

Main Source, the legendary hip-hop group featuring Large Professor, K-Cut, and Sir Scratch, released this groundbreaking album in 1991 on the now-defunct but highly respected label Wild Pitch Records. With Large Professor’s masterful production incorporating soul, jazz, and rare groove samples, the album was highly acclaimed and produced hip-hop classics such as "Looking At The Front Door" and "Just Hangin’ Out."

The track "Live At The Barbeque" is particularly legendary, as it features early appearances by Nas and Akinyele before their official debuts. This historic album remains a cornerstone of hip-hop and is now available in a collector’s edition vinyl release with a Japanese OBI-strip—a must-have for fans!

Backed up by the Da Beatminerz production crew, the debut album Dah Shinin’ by Brooklyn duo Smif-N-Wessun remains a cornerstone of the East Coast sound attached to classic hip-hop records of the 90s. With hints of reggae and jazz record samples in the mix, this was hardcore hip-hop slick with an underground edge as MCs Tek and Steele ripped through a charged set of sixteen tracks. Iconic tracks burnt into history like “Wrekonize” and “Bucktown” are all here, as well as guest slots from Black Moon and the birth of supergroup Boot Camp Clik. P-vine is delighted to be reissuing the record for the first time as a deluxe double picture disc edition, with two bonus tracks bringing the total package up to eighteen tracks.

"Jiselle" is a talented young R&B singer from South Korea. Her first EP, Therapy Session, was only released on digital platforms, but P-vine Records came up with the idea to add some new songs to it and release it in physical format as Therapy Session Deluxe. The idea then evolved into a new series to hook up and introduce alternative Korean artists, i.e. a different type of talent from mainstream music, such as BTS and New Jeans.

Jiselle debuted in 2019 with her multiple talents, including songwriting and composing. She has performed with a number of well-known artists, including leading South Korean rappers BewhY and pH-1.

This album includes BIGNaughty, who belongs to H1ghr Music, one of the biggest hip-hop labels in South Korea founded by Jay Park, Gemeni, who has over 1 million Spotify listeners and was named 'Best K-Pop in the first half of 2022', and in the past, Apple Music Korea R&B / Soul album chart, oceanfromtheblue, which reached No. 1 on the Korea R&B / Soul album chart, participated as guest performers. “What might’ve been, is dead and is done,” so begins the opening track on Penny Goodwin’s ‘Portrait of a Gemini’. The words are surprisingly somber for an album as beautiful as this, but oddly prophetic. Despite Goodwin’s unmistakable talent, her sole album “Portrait of a Gemini” only ever received a private pressing of 2000 copies, and she quickly faded into obscurity afterwards.

Yet, one listen is enough to make it immediately obvious why original pressings of this album have attracted expensive premiums. From the orchestral string arrangements on “Today Is The First Day”, to the heavenly Hammond organ playing on album closer, “Amazing Grace”, the immense talent of Goodwin and the musicians supporting her is constantly clear. Even when they take on covers of songs such as Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin On” and Gil Scott Heron’s “Lady Day & John Coltrane”, the singular voice of Goodwin seems to make the songs her own. Perhaps the greatest testament to this album’s timelessness is rapper and notorious crate digger, Tyler, the Creator’s sampling of the latin-jazz infused “Slow Hot Wind” on his most recent album.

Don’t miss this pinnacle of 70s soul, available for the first time in over a decade on limited edition vinyl, now with an iconic Japanese obi-strip!

The chemistry between T-Groove and George Kano is back again. The virtuoso of modern disco and the versatile drummer join forces with some of the country's top players and singers to deliver a jazz-funk performance that evokes the “Jamaican Cats” scene of young talents colliding in Queens, NY around the late '70s and early '80s. With elegant dancers inspired by the late-night vibe, urban fusion, and percussive boogie, the nine gem-like tracks are beautiful from their crisp sound textures to their lingering echoes. When the chaotic dancefloor transforms into a mellow after-hours atmosphere, this album truly shines.

Continuing from her debut album, Yuji Ohno once again joins as arranger, further enriching the musical depth of Sai’s surreal and eerie world, reminiscent of Kyusaku Yumeno’s literary strangeness. At just 24 years old, Yoshiko Sai stood as a poet, painter, and singer—an artist in a league of her own. The album’s artwork is a masterpiece, and the reissue features a nearly transparent clear vinyl, evoking the ethereal world of the unborn.

Built In System Live In New York is the live album by Chien Chien Lu, a rising star in the vibraphone world. Originally from Taiwan, she is now making a name for herself on the cutting edge of jazz in New York City. The album features eight original compositions that she first introduced in a live performance.

This work is built around three central themes: Destiny, Relocation, and Cultural Heritage, which Chien Chien Lu collectively refers to as Built In System.

The opening track, "Boulanger's Variation," sets the tone with intricate rhythms and Chien Chien Lu’s eerie, atmospheric vibraphone playing at its core. The track also features the trumpet of Jeremy Pelt, a renowned figure known for producing André 3000’s instrumental album, and the bass of Richie Goods, a frequent collaborator with Chien Chien Lu. Their interplay creates a dynamic and infectious groove that weaves seamlessly throughout the piece.

Other standout tracks include "Hsiu Chin," where the vibraphone and trumpet engage in passionate, alternating calls and responses, and "Träumerei," a dreamy, peaceful composition that offers a moment of calm introspection.

The track "Special Things" evokes a nostalgic, retro jazz atmosphere, transporting listeners to the intimate jazz clubs of the 1970s and ’80s. Meanwhile, the album's closer, "Full Moonlight," combines both intensity and serenity, showcasing the unique character of this live recording, which brings out the modern jazz spirit of the performance.

This album is an exceptional treat for jazz enthusiasts, as it presents a full live experience featuring all-new compositions, making it a truly special release.

The four albums that legendary saxophonist Clifford Jordan recorded in the late '90s for Maple Shade Records—a label renowned for its high-quality sound—are now being reissued on CD with a new format and released on vinyl for the first time!

Recorded live at Condon’s in New York in December 1990, this stunning big band jazz performance features a powerful 16-piece ensemble, highlighted by Clifford Jordan’s smoky, bluesy phrasing alongside his longtime collaborators: Dizzy Reece, Benny Powell, Junior Cook, Charles Davis, and Kiane Zawadi. ■ Clifford Jordan Born in Chicago in 1931, Clifford Jordan was a tenor saxophonist who began his jazz career at the young age of 16 in 1947. Playing alongside local jazz greats such as Max Roach and Sonny Stitt, as well as R&B groups, he quickly built his reputation. After relocating to New York in 1957, Jordan recorded three albums for Blue Note and became a key figure in the jazz scene, collaborating with Horace Silver, J.J. Johnson, Kenny Dorham, and Max Roach, among others.

Following tours in Europe as a member of Charles Mingus and Eric Dolphy’s bands, Jordan transitioned into a leader role. His 1972 album In the World, released on Strata-East, became a celebrated masterpiece of spiritual jazz. Throughout his career, he released numerous works on various labels, and in his later years, he recorded four albums for Maple Shade Records, a label known for its exceptional sound quality. Jordan passed away in 1993.

There are few saxophonists who were able to hold their own against the late great Eric Dolphy. Clifford Jordan is one of them. As a member of the Charles Mingus sextet on his legendary 1964 European tour with Eric Dolphy, Jordan is featured on iconic albums such as The Great Concert of Charles Mingus and Town Hall Concert. Born in 1931, the tenor saxophonist was a giant of the hard bop genre, with an adaptable style that could match the earthsy avant-blues of Mingus, or soar into space alongside Dolphy. Originally released in 1974 and recorded the year prior, Glass Bead Games was the fifth and final installment in Strata-East’s Dolphy series, and undoubtedly one of the fantastic series’ highlights. The recording features two different quartets, with only Billy Higgins (ds.) and Jordan (ts.) appearing on all tracks; Cedar Walton and Stanley Cowell take turns on piano, while Sam Jones and Bill Lee (father of Spike!) take turns on bass. Across 12 tracks and two sides, Clifford Jordan’s two quartets are consistent, with some of the tightest grooves and most spiritual playing of the 70’s being recorded during these two sessions. Album opener “Powerful Paul Robeson” is an homage to the legendary singer and activist, and is the kind of spiritual jazz that immediately sends chills down your spine. It opens with atmospheric piano rolls and percussion, over which Jordan’s free improvisations take on an almost devotional sound. Homages to great jazz men are frequent throughout, with half of the tracks being named after musicians, including the Lee penned “John Coltrane”. The song opens with a bass solo from Lee, before the quartet settles into a steady mid-tempo groove. Jordan plays the angular melody alone, and with every refrain, the melody takes on a haunting quality, until it descends into a subdued bass solo. The chant-like choral refrain that follows, laid gently over a repetitive bassline and delicate percussion is hypnotic, and as Jordan picks up the melody once more, you’ll feel as though this is somehow different. Glass Bead Games is undoubtedly one of the finest spiritual jazz recordings to come out of the 70s, and is one that you absolutely must not miss! We are proud to be reissuing Clifford Jordan’s Glass Bead Games, available on limited edition vinyl with an obi-strip, only from P-vine Records.

Formed by Toronto DJ/ producers K.Cut, Sir Scratch, and Brooklyn MC/producer Large Professor, Main Source was one of the seminal groups of the East Coast’s hip-hop scene in 90’s. The original trio’s first and only album Breaking Atoms, was released in 1991 to critical and commercial acclaim, before Large Professor left the group. They recorded a second album, The Science, and even ran ads for it in The Source, before the group’s breakup led to its indefinite shelving. Until now! P-vine Records is proud to announce that we’re giving The Science its long deserved official release, almost three decades after it was initially set for release. This gem among gems of 90’s hip-hop, which had never seen so much as a bootleg release, is going to be released on CD, Analog vinyl (1xLP and 1xLP+7 Inch), and cassette tape. With tracks such as “Bootleg”, “Raise Up, “Time (Alternate Mix)”, and “Hella Vision”, taken from master tapes owned by the three original members, as well as well-loved classics like “Fakin’ The Funk” and “How My Man Went Down In The Game”, this record is sure to be killer. Large Professor’s flows are as smooth and lyrical as ever, and the sample-heavy beats that the producers lay down are supreme. Trust me when I say, that this is one record you’re not going to want to miss.

Formed in London’s Islington borough in 1970, Grit would perform their heavy psychedelic rock locally for three years, disbanding and disappearing before they could sign a contract with a record label. Their sole recorded output was a three-track demo, recorded in 1972, of which only two copies were ever pressed. One of those copies made its way to Germany, where it was discovered in a flea market by record collector and psychedelic rock expert Hans Pokora. After being featured in Pokora’s “7001 Record Collector Dreams” and being awarded the maximum grade of rarity, the record quickly became an object of desire for crate diggers around the world. It didn’t take long for somebody to track down original guitarist Frank “Spider” Martinez, and with the original master tapes he still had in his possession, reissues were off to the races!

And for good reason - not only is this record incredibly rare, but the heavy psychedelic rock is unparalleled, with comparisons to Cream, Jimmy Hendrix, and John Mayall hardly doing it the justice it deserves. Fuzzed out riffs, Robert Plant-esque shout singing, and some of the most aggressive drumming this side of the Thames, makes for a psychedelic rock sound that’s unmistakably British but undeniably awesome. Featuring never before heard recordings of rehearsals, including a cover of Burnin Red Ivanhoe’s “Across The Windowsill”, this is a record as valuable for its history as it is its sound. Reissued with an obi-strip for the first time ever, don’t miss Grit only from P-vine Records.

He wasn’t satisfied simply being a bebop legend!

Roy Porter spent the 40s and 50s playing with jazz pioneers such as Charlie ‘Yardbird’ Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and a young Eric Dolphy, quickly becoming a sought-out drummer in the blossoming bebop scene before disappearing from the music industry. After spending much of the 1960s silent, Roy Porter returned triumphantly with the release of ‘Jessica’ in 1971.

There’s no doubt that his early work in the bebop scene would alter the shape of jazz to come, but it’s his work with Roy Porter Sound Machine where you can really hear the iconic drummer let loose. Recorded at the age of 50, Roy Porter is no longer content to sit back and let others take the spotlight, and his drumming has all the fervent energy of a young drummer who just moved to New York. The title track and album opener, “Jessica” (supposedly written for his girlfriend at the time) quickly became a jazz-funk classic, making appearances on ‘Inner Feelings’ (1975) and ‘Generations’(1994). Throughout the album, Porter shows his incredible talent, whether it’s the downtempo cool swing of “Hip City”, the almost maniacal drum solo on “Drums for Daryl”, or the Jobim-inspired Afro-cuban “Ooh-La-La”. It seems implausible that this was Porter’s first recorded material in over a decade, and one of his first albums as a leader, but it is. With original pressings going for over a thousand dollars on the second-hand market, there’s no doubt that this record is worth its weight in gold.

With the LP reissued on clear yellow vinyl for the first time ever, this record has never looked this good! Combined with a 7” record containing a vocal version of “Jessica”, and a remix by the one and only Kenny Dope, this reissue has “Deluxe” written all over it. Don’t miss this legendary album, reissued for the first time on clear yellow vinyl with a 7” record, available only from P-vine Records!

Liberated Brother was the debut album from Weldon Irvine, and remains a landmark jazz release from the multi-talented explorer of sound. Originally released in 1972, over the course of eight tracks Irvine weaves through a collage of genre and instrumentation, fusing elements that would come to define his pioneering jazz-funk sound.

The album features Irvine’s early instrumental jazz before his decidedly conversational approach on the follow-up album Time Capsule. The title and opening track 'Liberated Brother,' with its playful Latin arrangements introduces the first half in spritely fashion, and mellows as Irvine's piano sets the mood for “Here’s Where I Came In” - a track where sombre tones feel luxurious, and conscious instrumentation tests the waters, spreading weight evenly across the soundscape. Guitarist Tommy Smith emerges as a singular figure at the start of side B with 'Gloria' - a timeless guitar composition so wholesome with its delicate simplicity, it attests the level of musicianship that keeps Irvine company across these tracks. The two then strike up a jazz-funk partnership on the subsequent “Homey” with their respective keyboards and guitar.

P-vine is thrilled to be reissuing Liberated Brother as a limited edition LP with newly remastered audio, and an iconic Japanese obi strip attached.

Here is the upcoming P-vine presents <ultimate TSG Survey> reissue series following Ricardo Marrero, The Topics and The ultimates. "Freeway" was released in 1976 as the only work from pianist and composer Eric Dunbar who was based on New Orleans. Almost nobody had the original edition vinyl released by a legendary tax scam label "tsg Records" because this LP had pressed only a few quantities just for tax saving. Currently, this album is well known as one of the most rare and valuable titles among releases of the label. Not only its rarelity but the music itself is also truly almighty, all tracks are full of intense low-mid grooves and skillful brass sections support the base of sound strongly. The opening number "Freeway (m1)" is one of the highlights of this long play. P-vine is proud to present this long awaited reissue with newly digital remastering and Japanese OBI-strip.

This album is the work of Copeland Davis with his own band, released in 1975. He continues to perform energetically as a pianist to this day, and later gained attention and popularity in Japan during the Free Soul and Rare Groove movements. The opening track, "NO Arms CAN Ever Hold YOU," features a beautiful melody played by Davis's refreshing piano. In contrast, the instrumental numbers are also superb, including "PERFIDIA," where light, lively touches intertwine with percussive beats, and the high-tempo, driving groove of "SO IN LOVE." Additionally, the medium-tempo soul track "JET," where Davis himself takes on the vocals, and the mellow "Morning Spring" (m6), famously sampled in Pase Rock's "It's About Time" produced by Nujabes, are standout tracks. For this reissue, the vocal version of "NO Arms CAN Ever Hold YOU," which was previously only available on a 7-inch single, has been included on an LP for the first time. This album is marked by its solid sound quality and a rich variety of songs.

Composer and keyboardist Ricardo Marrero was a prominent figure in the New York Latin music scene during the 1960s and 70s. His debut album was released by TSG Records, and due to the label's characteristics, only a limited number of copies were manufactured. The rarity of the original pressing, coupled with the exceptional quality of its music, has sometimes led it to be dubbed as "the ultimate destination for rare groove collectors." Revered not only by rare groove enthusiasts but also by fans of Latin, bossa nova, funk, and soul, its splendid sound continues to shine as an enduring masterpiece that shows no signs of fading.

"Indonesian rock trio Voice Of Baceprot (vob) have had to weather many challenges after they decided to carve a career in music. With the lack of music-related facilities in their village of Singajaya in Garut, West Java, they had to practically build their own modest practice studio. And they could only get a gig in the nearest city of Garut, three-and-a-half hours away. They had to face more significant adversities, namely the stigmas and unsolicited suggestions regarding religion and decency directed at them.

"You must remember that we come from a village where many see women as inferior to men. After completing high school, we did not have a lot of options. It was either work at home or for a relative at a convenience store. Or marry someone our parents choose," vocalist/guitarist Marsya recalls. It is a mindset that has survived from one generation to the other, even to this day. Hence, garnering support from even their family members became an uphill battle. ""No wonder only the three of us managed to come this far when you consider that VOB started with 15 members in 2014!"" drummer Sitti exclaims.

With all the setbacks that have come from all directions for an extended period, it is no surprise that they have played a massive part in developing VOB's character as a band and as individuals. Rather than dampening their spirits, however, they have moulded the trio to become stronger. "We have become rocks now. Hardened, rigid, and stiff due to all the doctrines in our minds. But through music and our friendship, we became fully aware that they must be cut through and broken regardless," Marsya explains. And from the trials and tribulations that they have had to suffer, VOB chose to name their debut album “Retas”. In Bahasa Indonesia, ""retas"" is ""a body of igneous rocks that breaks through by cutting through other rocks"". It epitomises how the band see themselves: igneous rocks, the end product of the socio-economic challenges that have shaped them into who they are now. ""Retas"" is a collection of songs that embody their solid determination to break free and carve out their path as a band, as musicians, and as independent women. With Ntrl guitarist Coki Bollemeyer at the helm as producer for the newer songs on the album, “Retas” comprises nine tracks, including album focus track “Age Oriented”, fan-favourite “What’s the Holy (Nobel) Today?”, “The Enemy of Earth is You”, instrumental track “Kawani”, and four previous singles that they have released since 2018, including their breakthrough single “School Revolution” and the smash hit “God, Allow Me (Please) to Play Music”. ""We really enjoyed making this album, thanks in no small part to Coki. His support and appreciation towards the hard work we put into the process have made a huge difference. It gave us the energy and confidence to give our very best,"" Marsya acknowledges. Most of the songs have roots since VOB were still in middle school, each immaculately capturing their emotional responses to the variety of experiences they have gone through, transcribed and transformed into a combination of lyrics and melodies feeding off of raw energy and passion. Focus track ""Age Oriented"" is a protest song aimed towards age restriction that they once had to endure because they were playing rock music at such a young age. The piece lays bare their anger as tight and heavy riffs roar atop Sitti's groovy thumping beats and Widi's dexterous basslines. “More often than not, we were told it was ‘inappropriate and too soon’ and we ‘did not have enough experience’. There is a partiality towards age being the main benchmark to determine the merit of one’s artistic work. It meant the young must wait until they reach a certain age deemed worthy of independence to show their true potential,” Marsya remarks. The role of vocal director Irvan Natadiningrat has also become more significant in developing VOB's trademark sound. Take What's the Holy (Nobel) Today?"" for example. Irvan suggested the inclusion of the dramatic marching chant in the song. This powerful addition could make it the anti-war anthem for the modern generation. "The Enemy of Earth is You"" addresses the negative impacts of climate change. Never in their wildest dreams would they expect massive natural disasters to affect their village. Were they simply a show of might by nature's customary dynamics? Or are we, as human beings, to blame for our greed, ignorance, and narcissism? Writing instrumental “Kawani” felt fresh and intriguing for VOB. They had a unique opportunity to express their enthusiasm for Sundanese music, which they likewise hold in high regard. "In Sundanese, 'Kawani' means courage. This song represents the bravery with which we girls have refused to be treated as something ‘sweet and beautiful’. We are greater than that. That courage is reflected in the rhythms' dynamic quality. We may appear to be serene and unruffled, yet we can abruptly change into something else that is challenging to control,” according to Sitti.

New 45 Reissue Series Brings Rare Blues & R&B Gems Back to Life! Highly sought-after blues and R&B 7-inch singles often skyrocket in price once they’re categorized under niche styles like New Breed or Popcorn. Now, a new 45 reissue series is here to bring these rare gems back in their original format! Expect a flood of hard-to-find, high-priced originals, now available for collectors and DJs alike.

The first release in this series is a 1969 Kent Records single from Larry Davis, the blues singer and guitarist famously admired by B.B. King. The A-side, For 5 Long Years, written by Sherwood Fleming, delivers a killer mid-tempo funk-blues groove. Meanwhile, the B-side, I’ve Been Hurt So Many Times, is a dancefloor-ready track in the style of Willie Cobbs’ blues classic “You Don’t Love Me”—a song that has also gained recognition in the UK’s Northern Soul scene.

This essential reissue is a must-have for fans of rare blues, R&B, and vintage vinyl!

Kodama AND THE DUB Station Band is a band led by Kazufumi Kodama, an original member of the pioneering Japanese dub group Mute Beat, which helped shape the dub scene in Japan after debuting in 1986 with Roir in New York. This album is a collection of cover songs the band has performed live, following the highly acclaimed release of their first original album Kasuka na Kibou in 2019. Featured tracks include famous anti-war song "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", standard numbers such as "Fly Me To the Moon" and "Moon River," reggae classics like "Is This Love" and "Africa" as well as the Mute Beat era song "Every Day." Also included is a version of Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" sung by Ariwa, who is active in the Japanese reggae band Asound, and a stunning dub arrangement of the theme from the famous Japanese anime GeGeGe no Kitaro, created by Shigeru Mizuki. At the heart of this rich lineup is Kodama’s trumpet, which imbues the tracks with a unique, melancholic resonance, while the band’s more refined ensemble brings new life to these familiar songs. This album offers a fresh and captivating take on these classic tracks, offering listeners a distinct experience from their original compositions.

Recorded after the release of “Natty Dread” in 1974, Live At The Quiet Night Club June 10th, 1975, sees Bob Marley & The Wailers deliver a true “Trenchtown Experience” live! Delivered to you on vinyl for the first time ever, this double LP is a must have for all music lovers!

Recorded in a small, predominantly African American club on the Chicago leg of their US tour, this recording sees Bob Marley & The Wailers at the height of their powers, with reggae rhythms that’ll instantly transport you to Kingston! Even among the plethora of posthumous Bob Marley live recordings, Live At The Quiet Night Club June 10th, 1975 stands out as one of the best. The Wailers, despite changes to their lineup, are in tip-top shape. Compared to the heavily Rastafarian, almost ritualistic live shows that would become a hallmark of later shows by Bob Marley and The Wailers, this show is pure, unadulterated good reggae vibes. With sound quality that’ll have you shocked that it was recorded in 1975, an obi-strip, a gatefold jacket, and photos from Japanese photographer Mitsuhiro Sugawara, this is one of the best sounding, and best looking Bob Marley records ever!

The final release from Tribe! Released in 1976, shortly before Phil Ranelin’s departure to Los Angeles, Vibes from The Tribe is a spiritual jazz / rare groove classic!

By 1976, Tribe had grown to be something much different than what it had started out as. A popular magazine and releases from a cadre of the most promising musicians Detroit had to offer had allowed the collective the space and finances needed to develop, and by the time of their final release, they had changed both in shape and scope. Yet their philosophy of “getting out the message” remained the same.

Since the early days of the Tribe, the influence of funk and popular music had been more evident in Ranelin’s music than that of his partner, Wendell Harrison. Even on Message From The Tribe’s first edition, Ranelin’s love for funk was clear, with songs such as “What We Need” featuring a mellow groove and horn lines that would sound at home on any Motown record. Phil Ranelin’s second album as a leader, Vibes From The Tribe sees those funk influences on full display. Opening track “Vibes From The Tribe (Prelude)” has the kind of steady snare beat that hip-hop producers would later kill for, and a bassline so groovy that you won’t be able to stop yourself from nodding along.

For The Children is breezy bossa nova of the finest degree. Ranelin’s voice is subdued and relaxed, probably taking more notes from Joao Gilberto than any of the poetry readings on Message From The Tribe. But when he begins his trombone solo, the edges of his more avant-garde past start to peek through. Lines that would sound right at home on any post-bop album are a-plenty, and as a sunny riff closes out the album, it seems like the perfect soundtrack for a warm summer night.

But the heart of the album lies in the closing track “He The One We All Knew (Parts 1 & 2)”. Here, Ranelin’s smorgasbord of influences seem to come together, creating an 18 minute long track that combines elements of Indian classical music, free jazz, funk, and more. The track begins with the gentle psychedelic sitar playing of Daud Abdul Kahafiz, creating a drone over which layers of percussion, piano, bass, and horns combine. Frequent collaborator and Tribe co-founder Wendell Harrison’s solo comes first, with the sparse arrangement giving him space to stretch out beyond the limits of conventional harmony or rhythm. It’s clear that these musicians were improvising in the truest sense of the word, and as they go from playing over ambient sitar, to what can only be described as “swing”, they never lose count or break rank. You can practically picture each of the musicians in the studio, deeply concentrated but supremely in tune with one another, communicating with nods and eye movement. Vibes From The Tribe takes everything that made the Tribe great: free jazz, funk, pop influences, and a tight-knit community and preserves it as one of the greatest spiritual jazz albums of all time.

With modern remastering and an obi-strip, this album has never looked or sounded this good! Make sure to get your copy while stock lasts!

Tribe co-founder and saxophone legend Wendell Harrison’s 1973 leader debut!

Following the 1972 release of Message From The Tribe, the second release from vaunted spiritual jazz label Tribe, was co-founder Wendell Harrison’s solo debut, An Evening With The Devil. Originally included on the A-side of Message From The Tribe’s first version (the edition featuring a photo of a quay on the cover), the release of An Evening With The Devil in 1973 saw the suite fully realized, with two additional songs and studio knowhow making the album a true spiritual jazz masterpiece. Opener “Mary Had An Abortion” is part-spoken word poetry and part-free jazz freak out, but as Harrison’s gravelly baritone intermingles with atonal piano lines, it transcends the limitations of both. “Consciousness” is in a similar vein, with cymbal crashes and drum fills serving as a backdrop for a poem with references to police brutality and racism that seem as relevant now as they were 50 years ago.

“Angry Young Men”, originally recorded on Message From The Tribe, is now split into two parts and placed at the end of the A-side and opening of the B-side, physically and musically bridging the original suite with the new compositions. A horn line that could only be described as angry descends over an aggressive drum pattern, and as Tribe regulars Marcus Belgrave, Phil Ranelin, Charles Moore, and William Austin take turns soloing, the rhythm section seems to get more aggressive, undulating under these solos that take the song’s message and express it through simple notes. But it’s Harrison’s extended solo on the B-side that truly makes the song. He starts out almost subdued, playing fairly standard hard-bop lines over minimal accompaniment. But he quickly picks up, letting his horn honk and screech, with flurries of notes that almost sound like screams. The rhythm section matches him, building and building until Harrison plays the head once more - finally allowing the band to return to normalcy.

In comparison, album closer “Rebirth” is almost calm, with Marcus Belgrave playing a somber melody over a bed of rumbling percussion. It practically sounds like a requiem, until five major chords are struck by the band, ending the album on a literal joyous note. If Harrison hoped to express death and rebirth with this final song, the juxtaposition of the two completely disparate sections does a perfect job.

The hallmarks of a Tribe album are all over An Evening With The Devil. It’s spiritual and technical, and words simply don’t do it justice (despite my best attempts). Yet it also stands out among the Tribe releases by being one of the first. The DIY aesthetic and iconic design language are all there, but when presented with a sound that could only be described as raw, these early recording techniques are just right. The only way to truly experience the album is to put the needle to the groove, and let the music of Wendell Harrison wash over you. P-vine is proud to be reissuing Wendell Harrison’s An Evening With The Devil with modern remastering and an obi-strip on limited edition black vinyl.

The long awaited reissue! A classic “If you know you know” for collectors, this private press record rarely even makes its way to the second hand market, but fetches jaw-dropping prices when it does!

Recorded quietly in Minneapolis in 1977, the sole album from singer-songwriter and producer Ernie Story is one of the finest examples of the musical territory where AOR meets Modern Soul. Mellow grooves are a-plenty, but the occasional touch of gospel is what takes it up a notch.

Story’s experience providing songs for The Impressions, Curtis Mayfield, and The Chi-Lites should be proof enough that these songs are of the highest quality. But put down your needle and take one listen to the staccato rhythm guitar and wildly percussive beat of “disco City” and you won’t have any doubts! Or perhaps the acoustic instrumental number “The E Groove” is more your style. Maybe even the softly psychedelic band and soulful vocals of “Chain Gang” is what gets you going. Across nine tracks, Ernie Story never slows down, with fantastic songs from beginning to end. P-vine is proud to be giving Meditation Blue its first ever reissue, now complete with an obi-strip!

Originally released in 1975, the sole album from Indianapolis funk undectet (11 people!) Turner Bros. is filled to the brim with phat grooves and soulful vocals. As the name would imply, the Turner siblings (there are six of them in the group) form the foundation of the group, writing many of the songs with an impeccable ear for catchy hooks and danceable grooves. From mellow soul numbers (“Every Time I’m Near You”) to high-octane instrumental funk (“Please the People”), the Turner Bros. do it all! With members ranging in age from 12 to 27, it seems unlikely that this group could even exist - much less put out a funk gem like Act 1. Yet, the Turner Bros. defy expectations at every turn, with every song showing off a new facet of the Indianapolis group. Reissued for the first time ever with the original artwork, and a Japanese obi-strip, this record has never looked this good! Make sure to get yours now, only from P-vine Records!

Recordings from a studio jam session before Bob Marley & The Wailers’ legendary performance at San Francisco's The Matrix reissued on vinyl for the first time ever! After the release of their world debut Catch A Fire, Bob Marley & The Wailers would embark on a U.S. tour supporting the legendary Sly And The Family Stone. Yet after five dates, they were fired from the tour, supposedly for upstaging the main acts! Left with no money and nowhere to go, they performed one legendary show at San Francisco's The Matrix. These recordings, taken from a studio session before their legendary performance, find Bob Marley and The Wailers at their best. Featuring the classic lineup of Bob Marley (vo/gt.), Peter Tosh (vo/gt), Joe Higgs (per.), Earl Lindo (pf.), Family Man Barrett (b.), and Carlton Barrett (ds.), the Wailers are imbued with the kind of Rock and Roll energy that could only come from outshining Sly Stone. Even sweet rocksteady ballads such as “Stir It Up” take on the form of a rock and roll anthem in this session! Despite internal tensions that would result in Tosh leaving the band the following year, The Wailers are tight as they ever were, with their iconic vocal harmonies and rhythmic prowess on full display. Discovered and released on CD by P-vine in 2005, these mythical studio recordings are finally getting a long deserved analog release! The double LP on black vinyl comes complete with an obi-strip! After Motown left Detroit for Los Angeles in 1972, trombonist Phil Ranelin was largely left without work or direction, until he co-founded Tribe with Wendell Harrison later that same year. Two years after forming Tribe, Phil Ranelin would release his first album as a solo leader, The Time Is Now! The record contains all of the hallmarks of the best Tribe recordings: spiritual-leaning improvisations, soulful grooves, and appearances from Tribe regulars: Wendell Harrison, Marcus Belgrave, Reggie Fields, and more! The album opens with a 13 minute improvisation titled “The Time Is Now For Change”. As Ranelin , Belgrave, and Harrison exchange flurries of notes and squeaks over improvised chaos from the rhythm section, the group builds to a spiritual high that calls to mind the best Albert Ayler recordings. Bebop lines and unison phrases occasionally rise to the surface, offering a glimmer of familiarity in what is largely a harsh soundscape. Yet what sets Ranelin (and indeed, all of his Tribe contemporaries) apart from the larger free and spiritual jazz scene at the time is their sense of rhythm. Even as Harrison evokes sounds that would make a Meditations era Coltrane blush, the drums stay in time, and the looping bass and piano riffs take on an almost hypnotic quality, repeating quietly under a whirlwind of sound. Later tracks see the ensemble veer into soul jazz, and jazz-funk, with “Black Destiny” perfectly highlighting the group’s ability to meld the avant-garde with grooves that you won’t be able to stop yourself from tapping your foot to. Members of the Tribe were well known for their appreciation of African American popular music, and the influence of groups such as Sly And The Family Stone is clear in the song’s edgy rhythms and dense sound. This double LP reissue also contains alternate versions and outtakes that are so good you’ll be wondering why they were originally left out! With modern remastering, three bonus tracks, and an obi-strip, you don’t want to miss the definitive version of Phil Ranelin’s The Time Is Now!

Produced by Hawaiian AOR legend Kirk Thompson (of Kalapana and Lemuria fame) singer-songwriter Babadu’s sole album is mellow Hawaiian soul from start to finish.

The 1970s saw the birth of Contemporary Hawaiian music, a genre inspired by the popular sounds of the mainland US, but with a distinct, Hawaiian feeling. Perhaps the most popular form of Contemporary Hawaiian music was Hawaiian AOR. It makes sense - mellow grooves and laid-back bass lines seem perfect for the pristine beaches of Waikiki; yet the genre would take off, gaining popularity in lands as far away as Japan.

Babadu! is firmly in the tradition of Hawaiian AOR, with the vocals of Babadu himself resting perfectly atop backing tracks that perfectly meld the sounds of the island with mainland yacht rock. Album opener “We’re Not To Blame” is a perfect example, with tropical flutes practically dancing over Babadu’s soulful vocals and a groove that’ll have anybody nodding their head. With Kirk Thompson of Kalapana handling production, arranging and keyboards - much like he did for Hawaiian AOR legends Lemuria, the album sounds simply sublime. Reissued with an obi-strip for the first time ever, with the handsome face of Babadu himself adorning the cover, you already know you’re in for a soulful, good time with this album.

Have you seen this wizard?

Initially released from Detroit label Sunstar in 1976, the duo album from bassist Carey Harris and vocalist/keyboardist Michael Orr has quickly gained a reputation, not just for the distinct, hand-drawn magician on the cover, but for its incredible sound. The title-track “Spread Love” is beloved by deep funk DJs such as Kenny Dope and Keb Darge (so much so that they reissued it as a single on their label, Kay Dee Records), and rightly so! The song is chock full of slap bass, staccato guitar rhythms, space age synth - all the hallmarks of great funk. Combined with the brawny baritone of Michael Orr, this is one of funk’s finest songs. Yet songs such as album opener “Ecstasy, Fantasy, and Dreamland” and “Here I Go” feature the smooth sounds of modern soul, with keyboard riffs twinkling over sophisticated syncopated rhythms. The two meld together through the course of the album, creating a project that is, simply put : magical. Don’t miss this iconic album, available now from P-vine Records on limited edition vinyl with one of our iconic obi-strips attached!

From famed tax scam label “Tiger Lily Records”, comes another ultra rare soul record - Together - reissued for the first time ever.

A shocking pink cover, with a simple black logo painted on top of it. Besides song titles, composers, and the iconic Tiger Lily Records name, no credits appear anywhere on this mysterious record. Yet the sound, reminiscent of the teen soul of the Jackson Five, and Jackson Sisters has garnered high praise - often appearing on grail lists for hardcore crate diggers.

After catching the eye of Woodstock founder and major producer Michael Lange in 1975, Together signed a deal with a major record label. That is, until the untimely voice change of the unnamed teenage lead vocalist. The record was shelved at the last minute, and through a series of unknown circumstances, ended up being released by Tiger Lily Records. But take one listen and the album’s history will be the last of your concerns!

The charming vocal harmonies of the teenage singers, the incredibly danceable band sound - everything you could want is there! From the dance number opener “One Kiss And Then” to sweet soul ballad “Can I Be The Woman”, this record is packed full of 70s soul and groove! P-vine is thrilled to be reissuing Together’s self-titled debut for the first time ever, on limited edition vinyl with an obi-strip attached!

Originally recorded in 1977 by a small battalion of teenagers (there were supposedly upwards of ten members) Gonna Get Your Cherry was Groove Diggers’ inaugural release in 2006! Is the title immature? Perhaps. But there’s nothing immature about the 11 tracks of soulful, danceable funk that the album is made up of. From album opener “Can’t Hide the Funk”, the skill of these young players is on immediate display, with vocal harmonies and a rhythm section so tight you could mistake them for performers twice their age. Title track “Gonna Get Your Cherry” follows, with a beat so groovy even thinking about the song will have you tapping your foot. “Instrumental Soul” is - as described - some of the finest instrumental soul-funk this side of Chicago, with a fiery saxophone solo and staccato guitar strumming that’ll have you dancing in no time.

In comparison, B-side opener “Living In Style” and “Who Wants To Fall In Love” are subdued affairs, with female vocalists and a backing chorus giving space for the Washington Jamb Band’s more soulful side to shine. Including the never before reissued (on vinyl) track “In The Clouds”, two boogie-esque bonus tracks, and an obi-strip, this is the finest reissue to ever hit the market! Make sure you don’t miss Washington Jamb Band’s Gonna Get Your Cherry, only from P-vine Records!

He wasn’t satisfied simply being a bebop legend!

After spending the 40s and 50s playing with jazz pioneers such as Charlie ‘Yardbird’ Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and a young Eric Dolphy. After spending much of the 1960s silent, Roy Porter returned triumphantly with the release of ‘Jessica’ in 1971. Four years later, he followed that up with “Inner Feelings”. Listeners back then had to wait four years for the sequel, but you don’t have to wait at all!

The seven-man band, with its powerful horns and phat grooves, is no doubt worthy of the name ‘Sound Machine’ Praise has been sung of this record in and among rare groove circles for over three decades, with mere rumors of original copies being enough to cause collectors to begin salivating. Album opener, “Party Time”, begins with an almost mechanical drum break - a groove so tight, you just might think Roy Porter is a metronome. Jpegmafia certainly thought so, sampling the drum beat on “Free the Frail”. Fans of classic hip-hop may also recognize “Panama”, not just for its beautiful melody and iconic groove, but from DJ SPINNA’s hit-song “rock”. The re-recorded version of “Jessica” adds vocals and a touch of melancholy to the jazz-funk classic. It’s still danceable, but it might also make you stop and think for a second. Album closer, “Out on the Town Tonight”, takes the funk one step further, with an even larger horn section, and fiery solos. Yet throughout the whole album, the drumming remains steadily funky, a reminder that Roy Porter sits at the heart of the Sound Machine.

With the LP reissued on clear blue vinyl for the first time ever, this record has never looked this good! Combined with a 7” record containing a re-edit by the legendary DJ Muro, and the nearly impossible to find vocal version of “Panama”, this reissue is no doubt going to be legendary! Don’t miss this iconic album, reissued for the first time on clear blue vinyl with a 7” record, available only from P-vine Records!

Groovy, spiritual, and oh so, rare, this live album by drummer Roy Brooks is one of the best to ever come out of the spiritual jazz scene. With a career spanning over 50 years and collaborations with artists like Horace Silver, Stanley Turrentine, Yusef Lateef, and Charles Mingus, Roy Brooks was a foundation and leading force of the Jazz scene throughout his entire storied life. As one of the most talented drummers of any generation, Brooks would lead his own group, the Artistic Truth, and create some of the most invigorating music this side of Ornette Coleman. This recording, taken from a late 1973 show in New York City features Reggie Workman (b), Olu Dara (tp), Joe Bonner (p), Cecil Bridgewater (tp), Sonny Fortune (as), John Stubblefield (ts), and the late great Hammiet Bluiett (bs) working together as a cohesive unit, even welcoming the vocal talents of the legendary Eddie Jefferson at one point. These five tracks, spread over 48 minutes, are packed with so much groove, they could kill a grown man. Don’t miss this iconic album, available on vinyl only from P-vine Records.

The coming together of two titans in their respective countries, LA beatmaker Jansport J and Japan-based DJ BudaMunk span the east/west divide on their collaborative LP BudaSport. Across 15 tracks, underlying beats work as adhesive as languages spar and interlock in the foreground of this release packed with linguistic intrigue. Guests also feature heavily with Issugi, 5lack and Daichi Yamamoto representing a fraction of the Japanese talent, while Thurz, Devin Morrison and Blu among others contribute verses from the US.

Jansport J is a prolific figure in the Los Angeles underground, and alongside several solo LPs and collaborative albums, he also recently contributed production to Nas’ King Disease 2. BudaMonk is also no stranger to US shores with his records regularly being distributed by Delicious Vinyl and Fat Beats. P-vine records is delighted to present their joint work as a limited edition LP release with a unique Japanese obi-strip attached.

From Black Moon’s 1993 underground classic Enta Da Stage, P-Vine has paired two tracks to release as an exclusive 7” picture disc single. The remix version of “Buck Em Down” by the in-house production crew Da Beatminerz first appeared as a 10 inch single in 1994, and its accompanying music video - with iconic Franklyn Ave and Union St signs hovering in the background of their native Brooklyn, NY - featured this remix version. On the flipside, the title track “Enta Da Stage” with its stripped-down production hands over the mic to Buckshot for a pair of free-flowing lucid verses.

The impact of Weldon Irvine’s music across a wealth of genres cannot be overstated with his piano playing and compositions regularly handed down through generations, and influencing new waves of musicians. Artists like Q-Tip and Mos Def are noted admirers of the jazz-funk artist, and the distinct sounds of Irvine can be heard in the tapestry of the 90s sound via samples appearing in key records of the jazz hip-hop movement and beyond.

Time Capsule was originally released in 1973, and is keen to strike up a conversation with the listener as social commentary and poetic reflections signpost the way through its otherworldly jazz. Early tracks like 'Feelin’ Mellow' see a contemplative Weldon brew a satisfying blend of soul with lovingly warm vocal harmonies and gliding instrumentation. In contrast, other windows into the mind of Weldon like the meandering 'Watergate - Don’t Bug Me!,' are as much a virtuoso display of his bouncing creativity, as a charting of the rocky political climate at the time.

P-vine is thrilled to be releasing Time Capsule as a limited edition LP with a newly remastered audio, and an iconic Japanese obi strip attached.
