Neurosis have never been afraid of change, and here they embrace endless regeneration, surrendering to the emotional exorcism through heaviness and distortion that their music incites. On every song in the band’s history, Neurosis shifts restlessly between tension and relief, invoking a feeling both feral and transcendent in listeners. The band describe their songwriting process as an inescapable impulse to create with each other - a need rather than a choice. Indeed, the band insist that their return is “not a reunion - we never broke up.”

The album was recorded by Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Sumac, and Great Falls) at Studio Litho in Seattle during three weekends this winter, and mixed in three days just six weeks before release at Evan's Antisleep Audio in Oakland.

Neurosis will play their first show in seven years on the traditional lands of the Blackfeet Nation in Montana as part of Fire in the Mountains festival by special invitation of Firekeeper Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to reducing youth suicide in Indian Country.

FITM, is a unique festival known for bringing epic music to epic landscapes with the intent of reconnecting and immersing oneself with the natural world, and strengthening our ancestral roots as human beings - an aim which aligns directly with Neurosis’ deep-rooted power.

For more than three decades, Converge have delivered musical and emotional catharsis, putting purpose before perception and intent before interpretation. Whether it's their 2001 landmark recording Jane Doe or their 2021 Bloodmoon: I collaboration with Chelsea Wolfe, they have created some of the most compelling music, lyrics, and visual art of the 21st century. During that time, fewer bands have had a greater impact on the underground imagination.
It seems unlikely that anyone who has been making music for this long would create one of their best works for their eleventh album, in their 35th year as a band. And yet: Love is Not Enough might be the apotheosis of Converge's decades-long journey through the punk, hardcore and metal microcosm. What vocalist/lyricist Jacob Bannon, guitarist/producer Kurt Ballou, bassist/vocalist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller have created is a strident artistic statement on the turmoil of living that hones their collective strengths to a razor's edge.
There isn't an ounce of fat. Every song moves with a power and purpose that eclipses their human origins, that speaks to the anger, pain, and frustration of the modern age. From the opening fusillade of the title track to the closing hurricane of ''We Were Never the Same,'' Love Is Not Enough is a sonorous balance of vitality and viciousness that reflects the chaos and uncertainty of the times we live in.

''There's always obstacles in the world,'' Bannon says. ''Personal, professional, economical, whatever. But I feel like we're in a pressure cooker somewhere on our evolutionary line. It's a lot just to be a human being in the modern world, trying to function, maintain, grow, have empathy, have compassion. It takes more than it used to, to do all those things.''

The album title itself says everything about the trials of today. ''The line 'Love is not enough' is something I had kicking around for a while,'' Bannon says. ''Some of the things I wrote at the time were from a human resilience perspective, an acceptance of the brutality and unforgiving nature of the world. I was reflecting on that in poetic form and set it aside. When we got into the studio, it all fit together.''

''Bad Faith'' is a deeply personal song about cruel intentions and limited options. ''It came from watching someone I love being wronged and broken apart, and there was nothing I could do about it because there was no good intention in the first place,'' Bannon says. ''It's that feeling of helplessness because nothing I could do or say could better the situation. I just had to love and support and do what I could to be there. But I couldn't effect actual change. That's a horrible feeling.''

''We Were Never The Same'' recognizes the unrelatable in even the closest of relations. ''That one was written about getting together with people at a funeral, finding commonality among a variety of people in your life at a time of loss and grief,'' Bannon says. ''We've all been through some version of that in our lives. If you listen to heavy music, you appreciate the time, you appreciate the faces, you appreciate the histories with different people and loved ones. But then the next day comes, all the regular stressors of everyday life kick in, and you don't really connect the way you wish to after reflecting on the loss of somebody. I was processing all that stuff when I wrote the line, 'Why do we all gather to mourn yet not to cherish?' It's an honest question.''

Love Is Not Enough features no special guests, no studio trickery, no relentless massaging of human imperfection in trying to manufacture the perfect take. ''I think that realism is missing from a lot of modern music of any genre, but especially our genre,'' Bannon says. ''Things either go super raw and almost chaotic to the point where it's distracting, or bands take the life out of what they're doing by editing every aspect. Sometimes the perfect take is the one that has some wildness to it. It's not perfectly executed. There's a lot of powerful moments on this record and a lot of angry moments. The realism amplifies that.''

Unlike so many albums that adhere to a time-honored sequencing format, cherry-picking favored tracks for the all-important first, second, and final spots, Love Is Not Enough is all about momentum. ''It does a thing that no other Converge record does-it keeps ramping up,'' Bannon says. ''And that's definitely by design. Internally, we passed around dozens of ideas for sequencing because everyone interprets music differently and there's no right way of doing it. When we do that, we always joke that we all have to be equally unhappy. But this is the one that works.''

Love Is Not Enough was recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou at God City in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering assistance from Zach Weeks. Jacob Bannon did the artwork and design, creating an image for each song and a commanding cover depicting a celestial witness to a world aflame.

''We still identify this band as the outlet that's essential to our lives,'' Bannon says. ''We give everything we have to it. Being past your average middle age, we're starting to see deeper than before into a variety of places. And I don't think that's specific to us. I think that's something that's utterly relatable.''

POISON RUIN return with their highly anticipated sophomore LP, Hymns From the Hills. Building off the strengths of their existing oeuvre, the band has developed their signature approach to grim mythmaking and scythe-swinging aggression in bold new directions, offering up a new body of songs that strike one as equal parts natural, undeniably of this world, and phantasmal.

The band's vision has grown substantially, pushing well past the tales of peasants and serfs that stood as allegories for contemporary alienation in their previous work: on this newest offering, Their previous stories of toil and dispossession are revealed to be but one chapter etched upon a bleaker tapestry, one populated by spirits traversing sunless deserts and wilted hillsides, demonic torture objects limning the edges of the psyche, bodies transfigured into Luciferian snakes, Sadean prisoners bound to the screaming silence of abandoned castle towers. The record is at once a forceful restatement of POISON RUIN's trademark sound and a departure from it, the crackling, cassette-dubbed darkness and crushing rhythms listeners have become accustomed to buttressed by a carefully sculpted mosaic of new textures, from flourishes of Killing Joke hacksaw primitivism and blast-beats worthy of the Relapse catalogue number to crisp analog synth lines and ambient serenades reminiscent of Scott Walker and The Durutti Column. Like a serpent moving ever outward with spiraling circularity, Hymns From the Hills expands POISON RUIN's sonic landscape in imaginative new directions while maintaining its center of gravity firmly in the band's already established mythos.

Hymns From the Hills is meticulously composed. Much like the rest of POISON RUIN's body of work, this LP was self-recorded without the use of professional studio equipment. To meet the greater sonic demands of Hymns From the Hills, however, mastermind Mac Kennedy relocated to a private practice space, retiring from his previous routine of squeezing in tracking sessions around the rare moments that the band's shared practice space happened to be vacant. ''Having added time to breathe and really get things right felt crucial this time,'' he remarks. ''The stress of having to work quickly and at chaotic intervals used to feel productive in a lot of ways, in that it instilled a sort of rough, energetic ethos into the recordings, but I also started to realize that those working habits were becoming an easy way to let myself off the hook from pursuing certain ideas that required a more measured, methodical approach.'' To best serve the record's grander ambitions, the band enlisted the mixing prowess of Jonah Falco (Fucked Up, Career Suicide) and the mastering of Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Trapped Under Ice, Cavalera, Integrity), who helped to elevate the record's teeming variety of sounds to new heights of self-assured fidelity. Kennedy lent a second hand to the mixing process, splicing in grittier tape recorded segments in order to maintain a certain tonal continuity with the band's previous work, creating a rich structure of unconventional frictions, crystalline flashes of polish ripping through abysses of hissing low end only to shatter against the whipping sting of rusted chains moments later.

Lyrically, Hymns From The Hills extends both the cynicism and the defiant bravado of POISON RUIN's established fantasy aesthetics. While the record continues POISON RUIN'S tradition of employing medieval-inflected fantasy imagery, Kennedy does not intend for these figures to be read as historically accurate: ''I'm not interested in the actual facts of medieval culture, and I'm not trying to draw a sort of literal comparison between peasant life and the political realities of today. Rather, I think in order to really make sense of the present you have to get outside of history altogether, in a certain way-you have to find some sort of mythic language for talking about the spiritual damage that surrounds us, a mythology that can somehow escape the limits on imagination that are imposed upon us. For me, medieval imagery and fantasy aesthetics have always felt like a powerful starting point for creating that sort of mythology. If one is forced to be in Babylon, how can you find a way to live both through it and beyond it?''

With Hymns From The Hills, POISON RUIN have accomplished a feat of creative labor which few have the courage to entertain, much less the capacity to execute so effectively. They have upped the ante: they have set out to make ''The Record''. Hymns From The Hills ambitiously rewrites the very rules of what punk is capable of achieving, pushing POISON RUIN's sound into expansive new terrains without sacrificing an ounce of the bleak symbolism and uncompromising aggression that first established them as an urgent new voice in the world of extreme music.

In the annals of punk, few albums hit with the seismic force of Nomeansno’s Sex Mad. Released in 1986, this was more than a record, it was a detonation. Amid the Cold War and the Reagan era’s cultural tension, Sex Mad erupted as a raw, furious, and utterly fearless statement that redefined what punk could be.

From the opening blast of “Dad,” Nomeansno made it clear they weren’t following anyone’s blueprint. The Wright brothers Rob and John, alongside guitarist Andy Kerr, forged a sound that fused hardcore intensity with the precision of jazz, the elasticity of funk, and the cerebral bite of art rock. The result was unlike anything else emerging from the scene at the time.

Lyrically, Sex Mad dove headlong into alienation, addiction, and societal rot. These are subjects punk had tackled before, but rarely with such intelligence and emotional gravity. Rob Wright’s snarling vocals and razor-edged bass lines delivered every word with conviction. Even the controversial cover art, an original painting by Andy Kerr was censored by some retailers,. This just underscored the band’s willingness to confront discomfort and provoke dialogue.

Recorded at Profile Studios in Vancouver with producer Cecil English (D.O.A., Subhumans), Sex Mad captured the raw electricity of Nomeansno’s live shows while revealing the intricate musicianship that set them apart from their peers. Though critics at the time didn’t always know what to make of it, Sex Mad has since become a cornerstone of experimental punk. A record that influenced everyone from the Melvins and Primus to Faith No More and System of a Down (and that’s just to name a few). Its daring blend of aggression, intelligence, and innovation continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans.

Nearly four decades later, Sex Mad remains a masterclass in musical defiance. It remains challenging, exhilarating, and utterly timeless. Alternative Tentacles Records couldn’t be more proud to finally bring this incredible release back home at last.

For the band's long awaited third LP, primary singer & songwriter Matt Henson brings a new lineup and a revitalized energy to the studio proceedings, resulting in 10 songs of the kind of hard-hitting but thoughtful punk rock that has made the band a favorite with audiences worldwide. If NOi!SE's goals can be put simply, it is not only to energize listeners with the music, but to encourage putting that energy into thought, discussion, and action via the lyrics.

Lead single "Vast Contrast" is a perfect example. Matt speaks directly to listeners, encouraging critical thinking about the narratives fed to the public by those in power - especially those who encourage working class people to make others the target of hatred - when it is only those same rich & powerful who benefit from the polarization. At the risk of speaking too generally, the lyrics make the message instead intensely personal: "On the great divide again / It stands between me and you."

Meanwhile, on "You Versus You", Matt gets even more personal, articulating hard truths from lived experience about the self-destructive habits that one forms seeking escapism, only to perpetuate the cycle of misery from which they sought to escape in the first place. Referring to such cycles as "the romanticism of catastrophe" and creating "a pariah of your own design", Matt speaks eloquently about these dead ends, but stresses that they can be risen above, but only by a conscious choice on the part of the person living through them.

And thus the album plays out, with thought-provoking reflections on the personal, the political, and most often, the cross section of both, where people have to live. To put the final call to action in place, the album closes with an all-new recording of "Idle Action", which, despite being the band's signature song, has never appeared on a studio full length. The new recording by the new iteration of NOi!SE sounds vital, energized, and ready to inspire the fight for change - in the world at large and in people's hearts & minds.

For over thirty years, Nomeansno defined post-modern hardcore. Acclaimed by peers and adored by fans, this musically adept trio consistently thrilled sweaty crowds around the world. They were nothing less than a punk rock success story, and always on their own terms. In a word (or several), they are were at the same time intelligent, articulate, studied, thoughtful, violent, passionate, intense, playful, and they became legends. Now at long last, after twenty-two years, Alternative Tentacles Records is proud to welcome them home, starting with the brand new reissue of the Dad/Revenge 7-inch. Originally forming in 1979 by brothers Rob and John Wright after being inspired by a D.O.A. show, and guitarist Andy Kerr joining the following year, Nomeansno would go on to release eleven albums, including a collaborative album with Jello Biafra, and numerous EPs and singles. Heavily influenced by jazz and progressive rock, they created a distinct hardcore punk sound, featuring complex instrumentation, and dark, "savagely intelligent" lyrics. They are often considered foundational in the punk-jazz and post-hardcore movements, and have been cited as a formative influence on math-rock and emo. In 1985 Nomeansno entered Keye Studios to record “Sex Mad” for release on Psyche Industry Records. In 1986, the album was picked up by Alternative Tentacles Records and reissued in the United States and Europe. In order to promote that release, Alternative Tentacles released the Dad/Revenge 7-inch vinyl single in 1987. Pulling together two stand-out tracks for the release, a powerful straight up punk track “Dad”, with the anthemic rock feel of “Revenge”, it was an unforgettable release to herald the coming full length. Now for the first time in thirty-six years, Alternative Tentacles Records and Nomeansno are giving fans an opportunity to own the long out of print 7-inch as the first step in reissuing the Nomeansno catalog back on Alternative Tentacles Records. This is a perfect release to be reintroduced to the musical brilliance of the band, and to understand why their music is every bit as vital and fantastic as it was when the Dad/Revenge 7-inch was first released in 1987.

The Nils are a Montreal punk rock band formed in 1978 by Alex Soria. The Nils first gained local notoriety upon the 1983 release of a five-song demo entitled Now. Their self-titled debut album was released to critical acclaim in 1987, and earned praise from Rolling Stone and contemporary punk rock bands, including Hüsker Dü. The Nils disbanded and reformed on various occasions in the 1990s and early 2000s, until the death of Alex Soria in 2004. In 2010 Carlos Soria reformed the band, and in 2015 The Nils released Shadows and Ghosts, their first album of new material in over 25 years.

The Nils Now on Artifix Records is the very first time the band’s complete self-released 1983 demo cassette is being released on vinyl. With a sound reminiscent of Hüsker Dü, and the inspiration to bands like the Libido Boyz, The Nils proved at their beginning that they were a band with raw energy that blends hard-driving melodic rock with punk. Tim Yohannan of Maximum Rocknroll highlighted its heavy guitar orientation and hook-filled, Wipers-esque style, marking it as a significant, early change of pace for the era. All five songs from the 1983 demo are on this 7”ep. Pressed on black vinyl and housed in cardstock covers with art by 1980s punk artist Brian Walsby and lyric insert. Edition of 500 copies.

Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. Fuzz, the California based trio of Ty Segall (vocals, drums), Charles Moothart (vocals, guitar), and Chad Ubovich (vocals, bass), present their latest release Fuzz’s Fourth Dream on In The Red Records. This is the band’s first release in four years and is a collection of singles, unreleased demos, and rarities.

“I lived in a four-bedroom house in San Francisco that housed anywhere from six to ten people at a time,” Moothart explains. “Friends were always crashing when they were between spots, on tour, or just couldn’t make it home. It was a chaotic space, but a space that was cherished by many. Chad frequently crashed on our couch when on tour—surrounded by ashtrays full of cigarettes and joint roaches; beer cans and spray paint cans.

“I remember jamming on guitar and drums with Ty at like 2 AM in the garage (still feel bad for putting the neighbors through that.) One day, under Ty’s guidance, I dragged a 388 in to the garage. I decided I wanted to write a Sabbath-style riff just to see what happens. I laid down some drums, then came up with what would become “Fuzz’s Fourth Dream.”.I showed Ty the ‘demo’ which was more of a sloppy idea. He basically said ‘Let’s make this band”... and Fuzz was off.

“This collection really does give a proper road map to what this band is and was, as well as how the two connect,” Moothart explains. “Fuzz means a lot to me, and I have learned so much through these processes. Thank you to any one who has been listening to these songs since the beginning, and thank you to any one who is here for the first time.”

Born in the Basement, the 1994 second LP from horror-pop-punk mainstays the Groovie Ghoulies, in many ways marked a pivotal transition point for the band that would set the course for the rest of their career. After the first LP, the band had moved from Los Angeles to Sacramento, the city that would remain their home base for the duration of the band. The title of the record is more factual than one might assume: at the time, the Ghoulies' lineup of Kepi (bass/vocals), Roach (guitar), and Wendy (drums) were all co-habitating in a house by the city cemetery, practicing in the basement, where the record was indeed "born"! This lineup would remain together for the follow-up World Contact Day, which became the best-selling Ghoulies record! They also found themselves working with a prestigious new producer, recording at Seattle's Egg Studios with Conrad Uno (Mudhoney, The Presidents of the United States of America, The Ergs!). This relationship, too, would continue for World Contact Day. As the title suggests, this 1986 album compiled the eight-track ‘Time Flies… But Aeroplanes Crash’ 12”, originally recorded and released in 1983, and the four-track EP, ‘Rats’, that had been recorded during the summer of 1984 and released in early ’85.
‘Rats’ might just be the band’s most powerful and compelling release, the title track inspired by the Stop The City protests of ’84 that sought to highlight the undeniable links between first world capitalism and third world poverty. Whilst it’s something of a mish-mash, with several rowdy live tracks and a few, very enjoyable re-recordings of old Stupid Humans songs (Stupid Humans being guitarist Bruce’s pre-Subhumans band…), it contains two of the Subhumans’ best-loved tracks, ‘Work Rest Play Die’ and ‘Susan’, the latter something of an oddity as it’s a stirring piano piece, with lyrics written by Steve Hamilton, an old friend of the band. As a staple of the punk scene, ALL of the Subhumans records are still in high demand, and this long overdue repress of this album couldn’t be coming at a better time. Subhumans are one of the most influential bands from the UK Anarcho-Punk scene of the 80's, filed right alongside Crass and Conflict, and just as relevant today as they were during the darkest days of Thatcher's Britain. Take your choice in how to label them – Punk, UK82, Crusty, etc. – therein lies the attraction and consequent reason for their popularity, the band epitomizing non-conformity and connecting with people in many different scenes. This collection is an important piece of history in the world of punk that Subhumans helped create.

The band’s Revelation Records debut picks up right where their previous EP, Hardcore For Hardcore, left off, with vocalist Brendan Radigan spewing venom at the ills that plague both the outside world and the scene itself, all delivered over fast, stage dive-inspiring hardcore that brings to mind the best of mid-to-late ’80s New York hardcore bands like Youth OF Today, Warzone, and Breakdown.
