Founded by C.C. Filson, the brand is known for producing outdoor apparel and goods characterized by rugged quality, high functionality as well as durability. The Filson history goes back to the late 19th century: In 1897, C.C. Filson established his Pioneer Alaska Clothing and Blanket Manufacturers that was specialized in goods to outfit the stampeders on their trip to the Klondike Gold Rush that was in full effect at that time. Thousands of fortune hunters were heading north, and C.C. Filson was ready to stake his claim to fame, thanks to his strong work ethic, a reputation for honesty and being experienced in outfitting Pacific Northwest settlers and prospectors. It was for the coldest winter conditions that Filson designed his goods. He owned his own mill and manufactured Mackinaw Wool clothing and blankets plus knitwear, while also selling boots and sleeping bags designed for the frigid North, and Filson always had a sympathetic ear for improvement suggestions. When the Gold Rush was over, Filson still kept listening to his customers, and due to his rep, outdoorsmen kept coming to Filson for rugged clothes – not least because Filson added clothing for the timber industry, including the legendary Filson Cruiser. The brand was known for producing its items from the best fabrics, and since the 1960s, Filson is one of the premier outdoor outfitters on this planet.
