The "Alteleyeshegnem" 7-inch by Alemayehu Eshete is released on Philophon and brings together two distinctive tracks from the singer’s collaboration with the label, newly reworked for this edition. On the A-side, the Philophon house band presents the title track as a funky rendition: a driving beat, mystical harmonic textures, and a pumping bassline give this classic new contours.

Alemayehu Eshete is regarded as one of the defining voices of Ethiopia; his vocal style fuses soulful emotion with clear phrasing and a readiness to adapt to U.S. soul trends, making him a central figure in the Ethiopian soul scene. In these renditions, his striking timbre remains the focal point, while the house band’s arrangements create space for modern rhythms and dense horn sequences.

Both tracks were specially remastered for this release to emphasize presence and detail on the 7-inch medium; the collaboration between Alemayehu Eshete and Philophon was initiated by Listros e.V. Berlin with support from the German Federal Cultural Foundation, which situates the record not only musically but also within a broader cultural context.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the release of *Buena Vista Social Club*, this classic is now being issued as a limited edition on "pearl vinyl." The release includes the remastered audio as well as the bonus tracks originally issued in 2021 for the album's 25th anniversary. The *Buena Vista Social Club* project—initiated by Cuban bandleader Juan de Marcos González, American producer and guitarist Ry Cooder, and British producer and label owner Nick Gold—refers to both the extraordinary collective of musicians and the album they recorded in just seven days in 1996 at the legendary EGREM Studios in Havana, which date back to the 1950s. A special atmosphere was palpable even during the recording sessions; yet no one could have foreseen that *Buena Vista Social Club* would evolve into a global phenomenon—winning a Grammy (1997) and selling over 8 million copies, making it more successful than any other record in the genre. The immense success of the original album propelled the participating artists (including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo, and Omara Portuondo) to superstar status, inspired an award-winning film by Wim Wenders and a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, and played a pivotal role in bringing Cuba's rich musical heritage to the world stage. Thanks to Ry Cooder’s production and Nick Gold’s executive production (for World Circuit), combined with the timeless quality of the music and the impressive vitality of the seasoned musicians, this album has established itself as one of the landmark recordings of the 20th century.

With the LP "Nigeria 80," released on Strut, this various‑artists set presents a convincing work that, musically, forms a cohesive continuation of the previous output.

The compilation gathers striking examples of Afrobeat, Highlife, Juju, soul, boogie, and reggae, putting the sonic diversity of Nigeria in the 1980s front and center.

Characteristic of the selected tracks are driving, syncopated rhythms, prominent bass lines, dense guitar figures, and warm horn arrangements, complemented by multi-part vocal passages and the occasional use of early synthesizers. The collection shows how traditional styles were fused with funky and soulful elements without sacrificing local harmonic language or danceability.

For listeners looking for a concise overview of the popular currents in Nigeria’s music scene during that decade, "Nigeria 80" offers a curated selection that emphasizes both the danceable grooves and the melodic facets of the era. The compilation works equally well as an entry point into the subject and as an addition to collections that trace the transition from traditional genres to modern pop and funk forms.

The “Markab” LP by Kazdoura, released on Habibi Funk, combines Arab musical traditions with grooving arrangements that span Afrobeat, psychedelic and Anatolian rock, indie, jazz, and Gnawa. The Syrian-Lebanese duo from Toronto follows up its debut album, “Ghoyoum,” with this release, which also marks its first collaboration with Habibi Funk.

At the center are Leen Hamo’s vocals, along with John Abou Chacra’s guitar, saxophone, and flute. Arab maqamat shape the musical foundation, while bass, drums, keyboards, and synthesizers give the tracks a fluid, organic structure. The ten-track LP features eight original compositions, as well as Kazdoura’s takes on the traditional songs “Ya Maria” and “Ya Nassini” by Elias Rahbani and Georgette Sayegh.

“Markab” means “vehicle” in Arabic and represents a shift toward greater contemporary relevance, confidence, curiosity, and joy. As the first track released in advance, “Ala Mahlak” reveals a slowed-down, everyday side of the album. Kazdoura’s LP is released by Habibi Funk with a twelve-page booklet containing previously unpublished photos, bilingual lyrics, and extensive liner notes drawn from an interview with the band.

The “Dur-Dur Volume 3 & 4 1988–1989” LP by Dur-Dur Band is released on Analog Africa as a double LP in a gatefold sleeve and comes with extensive supplementary material including liner notes and visual documents. The edition compiles the two cassette albums from 1988 and 1989 and has been technically reworked: mastering by Michael Graves and audio restoration by Jordan McLeod ensure clear reproduction of the archival recordings. Samy Ben Redjeb provides the detailed liner notes; the visual concept is by R. Fernandes and Y. On “Dur-Dur Volume 3 & 4 1988–1989,” Dur-Dur Band showcases a wide range of their late-1980s output, linking Afro-funk and Afrobeat-leaning impulses with traditional Somali vocal forms. The tracklist includes titles such as “Boodhari Sidiisii (Like Boodhari),” “Naf Jaceyl (Soulful Love),” “Waan Hubaa,” “Faduma,” as well as traditional songs like “Shuuta Shuutee” and “Heelooy Heelooy,” offering insight into the stylistic diversity of the band. This Analog Africa release adds two key chapters to the already documented Dur-Dur recordings and offers both collectors and new listeners a focused presentation of this phase of the band.

The "Night Song" LP by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Michael Brook is released on Real World. The album documents the intensive collaboration between the two musicians and brings together traditional Qawwali vocal art with a modern ambient production approach; the tracklist ranges from meditative moments to rhythmically accented pieces, creating an open space for Nusrat’s extended improvisations.

The recordings were produced by Michael Brook; the credits list Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as vocalist, Michael Brook on the so‑called infinite guitar, as well as numerous guest musicians: Caroline Dale (cello), Dildar Hussain (tabla), Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan (harmonium), Mick Karn (bass), and Robert Ahwai (bass), among others. Brook also contributes keyboards, electronic percussion, and arranging, adding to the sonic plasticity of the music. All tracks were written by Michael Brook and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, with the exception of the title track, which is credited to Nusrat alone.

Musically, "Night Song" connects the ecstatic melodic lines of the Sufi tradition with subtle, often sustained guitar drones, Hammond organ, and electronic textures; the production creates space for dynamic tensions between voice and ensemble. The result is a carefully balanced take on Qawwali that remains committed to traditional elements while opening up new points of entry for an international audience.

Ben Caplan’s “2 Meter Sessions” LP on Charly documents four live studio recordings from 2012 through 2023. The album traces the development of the Canadian singer-songwriter over more than a decade and makes audible how his songs, arrangements, and stage presence have changed over time.

Recorded in historic Dutch studios, the release brings together different lineups and musical approaches. Ben Caplan performs with a full band, as part of a duo, and solo, while changing musicians, unusual instrumentation, and unexpected collaborations create a varied progression. At the center is his distinctive, powerful voice, which remains present both in densely arranged passages and more stripped-down moments.

The collaboration with the Amsterdam Klezmer Band plays a special role. Their shared interpretations of “Traveller’s Curse / Tramvey” and “40 Days & 40 Nights” expand Caplan’s songs with additional instrumental colors and dynamic ensemble interplay. “2 Meter Sessions” also includes “Belly of the Worm,” “Southbound,” “What Love Can Heartbreak Allow,” and “What a Wonderful World,” among others.

With the Ben Caplan LP, Charly brings together previously unreleased recordings that have not been polished after the fact, but can instead be experienced as immediate snapshots of different creative periods. “2 Meter Sessions” thus presents an artist whose material continually takes on new contours through changing configurations.

The 12" “Bud08” brings together four explosive cuts by various artists and comes out on Bud Records. The record unites three distinct voices — Jellyfish, Blue Mondays, and Torotom — and condenses the tracks into a compact release with a clear focus on Afro-funk and disco. The release is communicated as an exclusively vinyl-based edition.

Musically, “Bud08” sits at the intersection of Afro-funk, disco, and nu-disco, with Afrobeat and house influences driving the groove and making the sound feel both airier and more hard-hitting. Standout elements include the rhythmic variety and the melodic character of the leads; cuts like “El Fuego Del Diablo” and the collaborative tracks “Le Tango” and the “Yalla (Afromix)” version showcase different approaches to funk and dance traditions without losing the release’s strong sense of cohesion.

Key characteristics of the 12" are its tight structure and arrangements geared toward dance-floor energy, appealing both to DJs and to listeners interested in organic grooves. As a physical edition, the release emphasizes authenticity and directness; the decision to issue it strictly on vinyl underscores that focus.

“Peace And Love - Wadadasow” by Dadawah brings the 1974 work back on LP in a revised form and documents an unusual encounter between Nyabinghi tradition and studio practice; the release appears on Music On Vinyl as a numbered edition on orange vinyl. The record brings together four extended pieces that are thematically shaped by Rastafarian faith and biblical motifs, forming the spiritual core of the project.

Musically, the album is characterized by slower tempos, hand-driven percussion, and a deep bass foundation; conventional rhythm guitar rarely comes to the fore. Instead, Willie Lindo’s often blues-leaning lead lines and Lloyd Charmers’ piano and organ playing define the overall tone. The studio musicians include Lloyd Parks on bass and Paul Williams on drums, while Lloyd Charmers also handled production. This combination lends the arrangements an atmosphere that is at once archaic and alienating.

Lyrically, the material moves between invocation and community building: songs like “Run Come Rally,” “Seventy-Two Nations,” “Zion Land,” and “Know How You Stand” call for the gathering of the faithful and a return to Zion. This new reissue makes the rare album accessible to a wider audience and underscores the work’s historical significance within the roots‑reggae spectrum.

The orange vinyl edition of the "XXX" LP by Baba Zula is released on Glitterbeat and once again brings the band to the intersection of Anatolian tradition and electronic experimentation. Across seven tracks, the arrangements weave hypnotic saz lines together with driving percussion patterns, deep bass, and fragmented electronic textures; the music balances between meditative passages and eruptive rhythmic outbursts.

Drawing on three decades of artistic practice, Baba Zula connects influences from Can and Erkin Koray with dub aesthetics and psychedelic soundscapes. The vivid instrumentation — electric saz, theremin, precise DJ scratching, and a wide range of percussion instruments — creates the characteristic framework in which male and female vocal lines alternate and complement each other. The project remains true to its search for new formal vocabularies, using traditional taksims as starting points for free, rhythmically dense improvisations.

The production on "XXX" emphasizes spatial depth and richly textured layers of sound without sacrificing the organic warmth of the acoustic elements. Lyrically, the themes range from personal imagery to social observations, with the texts always woven into the dense arrangements. For listeners interested in the connection between Anatolian heritage and contemporary sonic exploration, this LP documents Baba Zula’s distinct path in a striking way.

The “Expensive Shit” LP by Fela Kuti is released on Knitting Factory and documents two extended Afrobeat compositions that exemplarily fuse music and political commentary. The title track “Expensive Shit” tells, in sharply contoured narrative fashion, the story of a confrontation with the police and, together with the also included “Water No Get Enemy,” forms the centerpiece of this release. Both pieces unfold across long arrangements, feature distinctive horn lines, driving percussion, and Fela Kuti as a charismatic frontman, accompanied by his band Africa ’70.

The Knitting Factory edition appears as a special release and expands the musical presentation with extensive supplementary material: a gatefold-style trifold sleeve with elements of the original design, newly licensed photographs by Femi Bankole Osunla and John Collins, a dossier-style envelope containing a poster, print, and newspaper insert, plus a metallic band as a finishing touch. The “Expensive Shit” LP on Knitting Factory thus offers not only the well-known songs in their complete form, but also a physical presentation that brings together context and visual material, documenting the importance of this album within Fela Kuti’s body of work. Fans of Afrobeat will find in this Knitting Factory release a particularly compact presentation of those songs that rank among the artist’s best-known numbers.

This release comes on 180g vinyl and was remastered from the original tapes. Be With have raided the KPM archives to re-issue another of our favourites from the KPM 1000 series. They say: Hard Afro Pop featuring large percussive rhythm section and front line. We say: One of the best-loved of all the KPM LPs. Afro Rock was recorded at Morgan Studios by John Cameron and Alan Parker in London in 1973 as a collection of stripped-down African rhythms, virtuoso jazz instrumentation, fuzzed up wah wah guitars and spaced out library breaks. The percussion is effortlessly funky, and those flutes so melodic, it’s as if the LP was crafted with the beat lovers of the future firmly in mind. As Cameron himself described it in Unusual Sounds, this is “heavy duty drum-and-bass salsa music”. As with all of our KPM re-issues, the audio for The Road Forward comes from the original analogue tapes and has been remastered for vinyl by Be With regular Simon Francis. We’ve taken the same care with the sleeves, handing the reproduction duties over to Richard Robinson, the current custodian of KPM’s brand identity. And don’t worry! Those KPM stickers aren’t stuck directly on the sleeves!

The red vinyl edition of the LP “20 Palavras ao Redor do Sol” by Cátia de França is being released by Music On Vinyl and documents the reissue of her 1979 debut album. The edition has been announced as a transparent red pressing, includes an insert, and is offered by Music On Vinyl as a reissue for collectors and MPB enthusiasts; distribution lists a planned release date in fall 2026.

Musically, on “20 Palavras ao Redor do Sol” Cátia de França brings together lyricism, Northeastern Brazilian tonal colors, and warm folk arrangements; the reissue highlights the album’s originally psychedelic-tinged character and emphasizes its closeness to the MPB approach of her early work. Producer Zé Ramalho shaped the arrangements, and the album features guest appearances and instrumental figures that have been regarded for decades as defining characteristics of the record. The LP includes tracks such as “Vinte Palavras girando ao redor do Sol,” “Kukukaya (Jogo da Asa da Bruxa),” and “Coito das Araras,” which complete the album program of the original edition. This edition by Music On Vinyl makes a long out-of-print piece of Brazilian music history accessible again in a listenable, collector-friendly presentation.

Nuevos Ríos is the new project born from the meeting of Colombia's iconic Canalón de Timbiquí, led by the unmistakable voice of Nidia Góngora (Quantic, Ondatrópica, The Bongo Hop), and the Toulouse-based trio Reco Reco, known for their explorations of trance-driven rhythms from South America and beyond. As the latest creation to emerge from Colombia's effervescent scene of rich hybridizations, Nuevos Ríos offers a breathtaking dive into the Afro-descendant traditions of the Colombian Pacific, elevated by electronic and amplified elements. The result is stunning: an odyssey that never strays from its course, transcending boundaries and guiding listeners along the discovery of a new river full of winding paths. In this music, we feel tropical heat, the embodied force of musical traditions, and the sweat of European dancefloors in a unique cocktail-instantly addictive, at times introspective, and always irresistibly danceable.Originating on the banks of the Timbiquí River, the project took shape through the encounter between Canalón de Timbiquí-the group founded by maestra Nidia Góngora, whose mesmerizing and instantly recognizable voice has illuminated projects like Quantic, Ondatrópica, and The Bongo Hop-and Reco Reco, passionate explorers of trance-inducing music, especially from South America.Far from the beaten path, at the heart of Colombia's Pacific region, the two groups came together naturally in the village of Timbiquí, the very roots of Canalón's music and of Nidia Góngora herself. Through a series of improvised jam sessions in the ground floor of Nidia's home, the hybridization of their music became an obvious path-born from a shared desire to reveal to attentive listeners the strength of this human and musical encounter. This first chapter, released on ZZK Records-a label renowned for uncovering South American gems (Son Rompe Pera, Nicola Cruz, La Yegros_)-is carried by the singular writing and timbre of Nidia Góngora. The compilation "Krismasi: Christmas Songs From Africa 1968-1982" is being released on Strut as an LP and brings together rare Christmas recordings by artists from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and other regions. On this selection, Strut juxtaposes meditative highlife songs with upbeat pop numbers and instrumental township jazz pieces, with recordings dating from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. Highlights include contributions from Martha Ulaeto with "Keresimesi Odun De (Christmas Has Come)," Dorothy Masuka with "Happy Christmas," and Kakai Kilonzo together with Les Kilimambogo Brothers Band.

The LP is pressed on white/red Inkplosion vinyl and, with tracks by Jerry Boifraind, Flash Domincii & The Supersonics, Paul Matavire, and Orchestre Baba National, offers a broad view of regional festive traditions. Vinyl restoration was handled by Colin Young (See Why Audio), mastering by Frank Merritt (The Carvery), and the artwork is by Liam Large. "Krismasi" sheds light on a previously little-explored area of African music history by presenting both popular holiday melodies and spiritual, gospel-tinged pieces, making an unusual and culturally and historically interesting side of African pop music audible.

Nástio Mosquito’s “No Capital” LP is released on Eight To Infinity and presents the album as a deliberately mixtape-like LP that brings together language, rhythm and political reflection. The release comes as a limited-edition gatefold LP and was prepared for the physical edition as a 180 g pressing; selected singles such as “Hilário” and “Mapa Cor de Rosa” serve as an introduction to an album that moves between Angolan Portuguese and English. Eight To Infinity continues the artist’s editorial imprint and releases the “No Capital” LP in a small, numbered edition, accompanied by a digital release.

Nástio Mosquito, who describes himself as a “cultural architect,” combines performance, film and music in his work, exploring identity, power and language through condensed sound and language collages. On “No Capital,” these practices take musical form, linking Afrobeat elements with spoken passages and narrative interludes; the two aforementioned singles offer an impression of the album’s lyrical and rhythmic range. Mosquito’s international presence in museum contexts and biennials is reflected in the distinctive, transdisciplinary approach that defines the release.

The compilation "Clapton Hymns Vol. 1: 10 Years Of Church Of Sound (2016 - 2026)" is being released on Church Of Sound and documents the tenth anniversary of the concert series at St. James the Great in Clapton. The double album, released on LP, brings together newly reworked live recordings from an archive of over 130 performances and presents a selection of twelve striking concerts that took place between 2016 and 2026. The release comes as a 2LP set and is accompanied by supplementary material; a zine and a poster are included in the edition, which is scheduled for November 2026.

Musically, "Clapton Hymns Vol. 1" casts a wide net, ranging from Latin and Brazilian elements to jazz, spiritual jazz, and experimental encounters. Particularly highlighted are a more recent concert by Brazilian duo João Bosco & Guto Wirtti, the final performances by Tony Allen, early sets by Moses Boyd, and the characterful guitar work of Jeff Parker. The set also features duos such as Alina Bzhezhinska with Tony Kofi, contributions from The Brother Moves On with Shabaka Hutchings, as well as a piece by the Kahil El’Zabar Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. As a preview, the live single "Do What You Gotta Do" by Kaidi Tatham & The First Word All Stars with Vanessa Freeman is being released. This collection makes a decade of Church Of Sound’s curatorial work tangible as a focused compilation.

The "Gal" LP by Gal Costa was released on Ipanema Sun and brings one of the most striking documents of the Tropicália movement back into focus. Often regarded in critical reception as her most experimental work, the album blends psychedelic sounds with Brazilian rhythms, unfolding an unusually dense, orchestral texture.

The arrangements are primarily by Rogério Duprat, with production handled by Manoel Barenbein; compositions by Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Jorge Ben, and Jards Macalé shape the repertoire. Tracks like "Cinema Olympia," "Meu Nome é Gal," and "Pulsars e Quasars" reveal the album’s range: from surreal, free-form passages to song-oriented melodies that place Gal Costa’s voice squarely at the center.

Musically, the record is defined by the interplay between orchestral avant-garde and popular formulas; Duprat’s arrangements create space for unexpected ruptures, while the contributions of well-known songwriters give the album a broad stylistic foundation. This combination makes "Gal" a vivid example of how Brazilian pop traditions and experimental ambition were interwoven in the late 1960s.

The "Mind Your Business" LP by Pax Nicholas is released on Comet and presents a powerful, dancefloor-oriented exploration of Afrobeat built on thunderous horn arrangements, interlocking percussion, and sharply defined guitar riffs. In addition to the original recording, the release includes a remix by Gabriel Belabbas, who strips the track down to a taut, minimalist framework and pushes the rhythmic elements to the forefront.

Pax Nicholas relies on organic band arrangements and a dense, horn-driven production; the tracks benefit from warm basslines and multi-voiced backing vocals that connect classic Afrobeat with modern club textures. Musical direction and co-arrangements are by Pax Nicholas and George Pfister, and the recording took place at UFO Sound Studios in Berlin. Contributors include Jeff Chappah (bass), Jan Stolterfoht (guitars), Mirko Schmitt (drums), as well as George Pfister (baritone sax) and Jan Gropper (trumpet).

Pax Nicholas, a former member of Fela Kuti’s Africa 70, brings his many years of experience in Afrobeat to this release and builds on earlier work that has recently drawn renewed attention through reissues. The "Mind Your Business" LP underscores his compositional flair for driving grooves and carefully crafted horn sections that speak to both the club environment and traditional Afrobeat-based song culture.

The “Temporary World” 12-inch by Joi N'Juno & Kaleta, released on Canopy, marks producer Joi N'Juno’s return to the label and brings him together with Kaleta, a longtime Canopy associate known, among other things, for his work with Fela Kuti and Sunny Ade. The release combines classic Nigerian funk and disco aesthetics with contemporary production techniques, creating a bridge between the past and the present.

Musically, “Temporary World” is built around Joi N'Juno’s buoyant disco beats and grooving bass lines, complemented by Kaleta’s funky guitar work and the London Afrobeat Collective’s horn ensemble. Keyboard textures and floating synthesizers round out the arrangements, while Kaleta sings in English and Yoruba, lending the record a warm, soulful voice. The result stays close to its vintage-inspired influences while also displaying distinctive, modern qualities.

The production variations are particularly noteworthy: Joi N'Juno delivers two mixes of each track—a “live”-sounding version and a second, more powerful take with a fat synth bass that really shines on late-night dance floors. With “Temporary World,” Canopy reaffirms its contribution to the contemporary Afrobeat scene, carefully balancing tradition with a club-oriented approach.

The “Esa” LP by Esa is released by Isle Of Jura and brings the 1980 album back in an official reissue for the first time. Led by the dance-floor hit “A Muto,” the record documents the Paris Makossa scene of the mid-1980s and bears the signature of producer Martin Socko Moukoko; Isle Of Jura transferred the material from the original master tape and released it in remastered form. The release emphasizes presentable packaging: the LP is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and housed in a 3 mm-thick full-sleeve jacket featuring artwork by Bradley Pinkerton, in the style Isle Of Jura has established for its reissues.

Musically, “Esa” balances horn-driven Makossa with influences from Antillean Zouk as well as the driving, syncopated rhythms of Bikutsi; Moukoko’s studio programming adds digital synthesizers, distinctive slap-bass figures, and layered harmonic vocals. Isle Of Jura presents the LP as a historically significant snapshot that combines traditional Cameroonian grooves with contemporary studio technology, making the sonic world of those Paris sessions accessible once again. For collectors and curious listeners alike, the “Esa” LP on Isle Of Jura remains a carefully prepared document of this intersection between African rhythm and electronic production.

Jamaican singer born in Clarendon, Jamaica on June 27, 1956. At age seven, he started singing backup for a local ska harmony duo called The Clarendonians and did his first recordings aged 10 years with the name "Little Freddie" or "Young Freddie", and as a duo with Ernest Wilson aka "Freddie & Fitsy".
McGregor stayed at Studio One for much of the '70s. He sang lead for groups like Generation Gap and Soul Syndicate, and also recorded off and on as a solo act during the '70s.
In 1975, McGregor converted to Rastafarianism.
Freddie McGregor's debut album Mr. McGregor was released in 1979. The album opens with "We Got Love" featuring a Tower of Power influenced horn section underneath McGregor's tale of love conquering all. The classic "Rastaman Camp" combines muted horn and an earthy, Nyahbinghi-like chorus for one of producer Niney's deeper constructions, but the lightweight fare is equally welcome as the easy strolling and not too sugary version of "Brandy" displays.

Mr. McGregor is available as a limited numbered edition of 750 copies on orange coloured vinyl.

In recent years, Teaspoon Ndelu’s work has found a new audience through reissues from labels such as Mr Bongo and Sofrito Super Singles. Mr Bongo’s 2021 reissue of Teaspoon & The Waves brought his 1977 jazz-funk classic back into circulation, while Sofrito’s Soweto Disco featured two tracks from the album, Oh Yeh Soweto and a re-edit of Friday Night, introducing Ndelu’s music to a new generation of listeners and selectors.

Originally released in 1981, Ke Kopa Madulo is a beautiful slice of South African funk from the late Teaspoon Ndelu, sitting somewhere between township soul, funk and gospel. At its heart is Ndelu’s unmistakable voice and this hypnotic electric piano, carried by a deeply infectious groove.

Long sought-after by collectors, the original has become increasingly difficult to find. We’re very happy to bring Ke Kopa Madulo back to vinyl for the first time in nearly five decades with this officially licensed reissue, giving this remarkable piece of South African musical history a new life.

For the dancers, the selectors and the listeners — Ke Kopa Madulo is back.

With the LP *Life Is Beautiful Again*, released on Jakarta, Nadine El Roubi takes her creativity to the next level while largely staying true to her style. Nadine El Roubi blends elements of neo-soul, R&B, and hip-hop with Arabic melodic colors, creating a sound that feels both deeply personal and firmly rooted in culture. Her tracks are characterized by striking, often bilingual lyrics that return to themes of identity, diaspora, and self-assertion; the vocal performance moves between sung passages and direct rap delivery.

The production often relies on airy arrangements: sparse beats, warm keyboard layers, and live accents used subtly give the songs space, while occasional electronic textures introduce modern contrasts. This adds depth to the compositions without sacrificing the clarity of the messages. Notable are the clearly defined song structures and the deliberate use of vocal tone as a dramaturgical tool, which makes individual moments stand out.

In her work, both artistic curiosity and a consistent through line become apparent: closeness to song tradition meets contemporary production. This LP slots seamlessly into Nadine El Roubi’s catalog and underscores her position as a defining voice between Arabic musical culture and the global R&B scene.

The “Ecos Do Legado: Chopi Timbila Music From Southern Mozambique” LP by Timbila Ta Venancio is released on Awesome Tapes From Africa. The release falls within the Afrobeat genre and documents a recording made in 2026 at Studio Bom Dia in Inhambane Province, recorded and mixed by Roland Pickl and mastered by Jessica Thompson. Venâncio Mbande is credited as the composer; his sons perform the recording as Timbila Ta Venancio, reimagining their father’s life work and carrying the tradition into the present. The edition comprises ten interconnected pieces arranged in the order of a classic Timbila performance.

The music centers on the characteristic Mwenje wooden xylophones. These instruments are part of a heptatonic system that divides the octave into seven approximately equal steps, creating a microtonal sound world that differs significantly from Western tuning systems. The recordings reflect the interplay of multiple generations within the orchestral tradition and draw on the practice of creating new compositions each year that convey the community, history, and lived reality of the Vatxopi. “Ecos Do Legado” serves as a tribute to Venâncio Mbande while also standing as a living cultural document of the Chopi Timbila tradition.

Musically, “Cafe Atlantico” combines traditional Cape Verdean morna and coladeira elements with pronounced Latin American and Afro-Cuban inflections; this tension between melancholy melodies and warmer rhythmic patterns leaves a lasting mark on the record. The production is by José Da Silva, whose work brings out the orchestral and chamber-like subtleties of the arrangements; among the guest contributions, a duet recording with Marisa Monte stands out. This Music On Vinyl edition renders these facets clearly on vinyl and offers a compact yet nuanced entry point into one of the most distinctive albums in Cesaria Evora’s discography.

The "Teranga" LP by Wau Wau Collectif is released on Sahel Sounds and continues the group’s distinctive approach: melodies rooted in Senegalese traditions are interwoven with experimental textures and modern production techniques, so that familiar vocal forms meet rhythmic, often dub-inspired treatments.

Wau Wau Collectif operates as an open collective that brings together local singers and musicians with international producers; the result is dense arrangements in which Sufi and folk vocals, warm guitar lines, and deep bass figures create space for both meditative moments and danceable passages. The voice is often at the center, accompanied by subtle effects and occasional nods to psychedelia and spiritual jazz, giving the tracks an aura that feels both archaic and contemporary.

"Teranga" extends the collective’s engagement with Senegalese traditional forms and emphasizes collective work on the arrangements: multi-part passages, stripped-down instrumental threads, and a production that carefully balances textures. For listeners interested in the intersection of field recording aesthetics, contemporary world music, and experimental production, the LP offers a focused, stylistically distinctive statement on Sahel Sounds.

RÓIS’s LP is being released on Domino on November 20, 2026. On the album, RÓIS reconstructs the ancient Irish ritual of caoineadh, combining reworked songs and hymns with contemporary production techniques. Sean-nós singing and passages in the Irish language appear alongside electronic textures and jazzy influences, exploring death, grief, and catharsis through clear, often haunting vocal passages.

RÓIS wrote and produced the album herself, with additional production by John “Spud” Murphy. The mixes were handled by Darragh Mac Dónaill and Tailtiu, while Apu Nanu took care of the mastering. Instrumental accents include Jamie Bishop’s bass on “WHAT DO YOU SAY,” while tracks such as “CAOINE” transform traditional melodies into new arrangements. Kylièn Sarino Bergh created the album artwork. The Domino release thus brings together carefully arranged vocals and subtle layers of sound, placing the human voice at the center of RÓIS’s work as her primary means of expression.

The “Baile Entero” LP by Baile Entero is released on Lovemonk and introduces the eponymous project of percussionist and producer Pablo Martín Jones, who takes on the roles of composer and arranger for this work. The production combines prominent percussion with electronic textures: tambourines, traditional frame drums, and everyday objects meet synthesizers, Mellotron, and automated drum patterns, complemented by sampled voices and field recordings that lend the arrangement a dense, organic layer. This combination of handmade rhythms and electronic processing shapes the LP’s sonic landscape and reflects Jones’ use of traditional material as a creative source.

Musically, “Baile Entero” moves through Afrobeat-inflected grooves that explicitly draw on Iberian dance and rhythm traditions; names such as Ajechao, Salteao, and Fandango serve as recurring points of reference without undermining the modern beat framework. Individual advance releases such as “Sorteao” and “Seguidillas” offer a sense of the range between delicate folkloric patterns and driving, dance-oriented arrangements. Released on Lovemonk, the LP emphasizes rhythmic variety and textural nuance, presenting the Baile Entero project as a precisely conceived fusion of field research, percussion, and contemporary production.

The Twin Flames LP by Ziggy Alberts is set for release on Commonfolk on October 16, 2026. The album was recorded in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales in close collaboration with his longtime producer Garrett Kato, giving the record a clear connection to Alberts’ previous work while at the same time opening up new sonic directions.

With Twin Flames, Ziggy Alberts presents a collection centered thematically on duality and self-reflection; the two previously introduced singles “I Need My Woman” and “I Blame Myself” offer a glimpse into the album’s personal perspective and narrative tone. The choice of “I Need My Woman” as a single was made by fans as part of an international campaign in which more than 35 independent cafés made recordings accessible via rotary phones—an unusual detail in the album’s release communications. On Twin Flames, Alberts expands his vocal range of expression and adds nuances that underscore his evolution from a singer-songwriter into an accomplished pop-folk songwriter. With this LP, Commonfolk is releasing a project that builds lyrically and production-wise on the experience of earlier albums while at the same time exploring themes and tonal colors that may prove to be defining for Alberts’ future work.

“Emile Omar Presente Declic Kaz A Zouk 1987-199” by various artists brings together a curated selection that highlights the encounter of zouk, kompa, Creole rap, and Caribbean club grooves. Presented by Emile Omar, the compilation documents a club aesthetic in which danceability and stylistic openness take center stage and different currents of Caribbean music meet.

Artists such as Francky Vincent, Claudy Siar, and Edith Lefel appear alongside band projects and lesser-known groups, showcasing the stylistic breadth that defines the “Kaz a Zouk” concept: a space where diverse Caribbean voices and urban influences come together.

As the compiler, Emile Omar brings his many years of experience as a radio programmer and connoisseur of Antillean dance music; his curatorial approach values historical context as much as the immediate impact of the tracks in clubs and on dance floors. With the LP “Caetano Veloso,” released on Ipanema Sun, Caetano Veloso takes his creativity to the next level while, by and large, remaining true to his style. A key figure of the Tropicália movement, he combines in his songwriting traditional Brazilian rhythms such as samba and bossa nova with elements of psychedelia, folk, and pop; this stylistic openness characterizes both his early and later work. Caetano Veloso is distinguished by a distinct yet understated vocal delivery and a fine sense for harmonic shifts that can range from acoustic guitar accompaniment to subtle orchestral arrangements and sparingly used electronic textures. His lyrics move between personal reflection and cultural critique, giving the songs a literary dimension and underscoring his compositional versatility. The pieces gathered on the LP fall within this broad spectrum without ever abandoning the sonic identity of the artist; instead, they emphasize familiar hallmarks such as melodic density, rhythmic elegance, and a subtle melancholy. For listeners who follow the evolution of Brazilian popular music, this release offers a concise, stylistically assured insight into the work of Caetano Veloso.

Asake’s fourth studio album, M$ney, marks a major evolution in his career, trading the frantic energy of his early hits for a more polished, cinematic sound. The project explores the intersection of material wealth and divine favor, framing his global success as a spiritual journey. Rather than just celebrating the "soft life," Asake uses this record to reflect on the discipline and faith required to maintain his position at the top of the music world.

Sonically, the album expands his signature Fuji-fusion and Amapiano roots with help from long-time collaborator Magicsticks and international producers like DJ Snake. Tracks like "Worship" bring high-octane electronic energy, while "Badman Gangsta" featuring Tiakola offers a sleek, R&B-influenced collaboration. Throughout the project, Asake balances these high-energy moments with orchestral strings and jazz elements, creating a rich, textured listening experience that feels both global and deeply rooted in Lagos street culture.

At its heart, M$ney is a balance of celebration and introspection. In tracks like "Forgiveness" and "Gratitude," Asake addresses the pressures of fame and the personal growth he has undergone since his debut. He remains grounded in his Yoruba heritage, blending boastful lyrics with sincere thanks for his trajectory. Ultimately, M$ney proves that Asake is more than a hit-maker; he is a visionary artist documenting his life and legacy with newfound maturity and style.

The double LP “Echoes From Mozambique: Selected Works 1993 - 2005” by Ghorwane is released on Merchant Records and brings together the legendary Mozambican band’s most important recordings on vinyl for the first time. The selection is drawn from three landmark albums released in 1993, 1997, and 2005, tracing the development of a group that combines traditional rhythms with Afropop, expressive brass, and socially engaged lyrics.

Ghorwane was founded in Maputo in 1983 and developed a distinctive style that links musical roots with political conviction. Sung in Mozambique’s local languages, the songs reflect the country’s social tensions and hopes. This made the band a voice for the people, but it also repeatedly brought them into conflict with state authorities. Neither institutional censorship nor the murders of two influential members could halt their development.

“Echoes From Mozambique: Selected Works 1993 - 2005” comprises eleven tracks and was remastered by Frank Merritt at The Carvery in London. Merchant Records is releasing the collection as a double LP, making key chapters from Ghorwane’s body of work available in a focused selection. The recordings showcase a band whose melodic power, rhythmic versatility, and distinctive brass work are closely intertwined with Mozambique’s modern musical history.

Lotte Melief’s “Weave” LP is released on MARS Worldwide and marks the debut album by the Dutch singer, composer, and instrumentalist. On it, Melief combines jazz, improvisation, art folk, and layered vocals into a personal, largely bilingual sound language. The nine tracks revolve around loss, vulnerability, acceptance, and letting go of control.

The album originated with “July’s Hymn,” a piece written during a period of mourning and recorded in the church where Melief had previously experienced a miscarriage during a choir concert. Two years later, she listened to the recording again for the first time. That moment became the starting point for “Weave,” whose title track continues to explore the inner movement between holding on and opening up.

For the recording, Lotte Melief worked with several mostly female multi-instrumentalists. Nathalie Schaap plays double bass and sings, Roosmarijn Tuenter plays viola and sings, Pau Li Liem performs on piano, and Wytske Gratama contributes guitar and vocals. The lineup is rounded out by drummer Joost Wesseling and violist Oene van Geel. The album was produced by Lotte Melief and Sam Jones. The recordings were made live in three rooms used simultaneously at Amsterdam’s Studio Leroy.

Baba Yaga’s “Odiseja” LP is released on The New on October 15, 2026; the album will be introduced with a release concert at WUK Vienna. The record is conceived as a musical journey and takes the band further toward a cross-border sonic language that brings traditions together in new ways.

On “Odiseja,” Baba Yaga combines Klezmer, Balkan music, Gypsy jazz, and contemporary world music, pairing original compositions with selected traditional songs. Vocals in seven languages—Bosnian-Serbo-Croatian, Yiddish, Romani, Greek, French, Italian, and Spanish—create shifting colors and narrative perspectives. Early singles such as “Yeráki,” “Shukar Jakha,” and “Vieni da Me” offer a clear impression of the album’s stylistic breadth.

The arrangements shift between driving, almost cinematic moments and calmer, melancholic passages, with virtuosity and the joy of playing equally coming to the fore. The album was recorded and mixed by Florian Koch at Tonherd Studios Vienna, while mastering was handled by Martin Scheer. For the visual productions, Baba Yaga worked with video artists Liliya Timirzyanova, Jonathan Meiri, and Jay Choma; the clips were filmed in Slovenia, Italy, Austria, and elsewhere. Following their debut “Grenzenlos,” Baba Yaga confirm their consistent artistic development with “Odiseja” on The New, presenting a multifaceted album shaped by a strong narrative focus.

The “Caribenya” Gold Vinyl Edition by Lido Pimienta is released on the Anti label and offered as an LP on gold vinyl. The packaging places the singer as the central figure in the artwork; the physical edition emphasizes the sonic character of the recordings and is aimed at listeners who value a sensually oriented, tactile medium.

Musically, Lido Pimienta once again weaves Caribbean rhythms together with experimental pop aesthetics and electronic textures; her vocal delivery carries the melodies with clear presence. Of Afro-Colombian heritage and with Indigenous roots, she incorporates traditional forms such as cumbia and bullerengue as well as modern arrangements and occasional classically inspired orchestral passages. According to the liner notes, the title “Caribenya” plays on the connection between “Caribe” and an allusion to the ambient voice of Enya.

The repertoire moves between delicate, vocal-driven pieces and rhythm-forward tracks that leave room for percussion and dense soundscapes. In this direction, the album once again showcases what defines Lido Pimienta’s style: a synthesis of personal storytelling, cultural references, and confident vocal control that links folkloric elements with avant-garde production approaches. The gold vinyl edition underscores this ambition as a deliberately curated physical format.

The “Morning Of May” LP by Sam Sweeney & Grace Smith is released on Hudson and marks the couple’s first duo album. On this work, shaped by the English instrumental tradition, the two fiddlers explore the sonic possibilities of two fiddles: at times one voice carries the melody, at other times the other takes over the seconding, and together they weave harmony and rhythm around traditional sources and newly written pieces. The track titles reflect this interplay, above all the eponymous “Morning of May.”

The program ranges from historical discoveries to original compositions by Sweeney and Smith; sources cited include collections by Henry Atkinson and John Playford. Sam Sweeney plays fiddle in GDAE and FCGD tunings, and Grace Smith is likewise credited as a fiddler. The album was produced, mixed and engineered by Andy Bell; the artwork is by Alex Merry, photography by Kate Griffin, and design by Robin Beatty. The “Morning Of May” LP thus presents a concentrated conversation between two women instrumentalists and offers a direct, detail-focused engagement with melody, accompaniment and historical performance practice.

The “What Still Survives” LP by Blair Dunlop is being released on Navigator and gathers new songs by the British singer-songwriter, produced by Ian Grimble. On the album, Dunlop reflects on endurance and the persistence of stories and songs; lyrical fragments of this appear, for instance, in “Trilobite,” while a new version of “Take Me With You” picks up on an earlier collaboration with BBC Countryfile. Navigator is releasing the record as a clear artistic statement that underscores Dunlop’s penchant for meticulous melodic writing and narrative density.

A number of familiar collaborators took part in the recording sessions: Fred Claridge, JJ Stoney, Holly Brandon, Ellie Gowers, Tommy Heap, Asha Jefferies, and Liz Stringer contribute vocals and instruments, complemented by multiple pedal steel parts from CJ Hillman. This lineup lends the arrangements subtle colors and leaves room for both acoustic and electric touches without overloading the song structures. With “What Still Survives,” Navigator and Blair Dunlop present a focused chapter in Dunlop’s discography that puts finely crafted songwriting and stripped-back yet precisely placed instrumentation front and center.

With the LP *Canto Diáspora Albun*, released on Man, Canto Diaspora unveils the next level of its creativity while, on the whole, remaining true to its style. The Berlin-based collective brings together numerous voices of Latin American background and works under the direction of Carolina Riaño; communal singing and the sharing of memories form the conceptual core of their performance. Their repertoire draws on the oral traditions of Latin America and ranges from Bullerengue, Tambora, and Currulao to Joropo, Cueca, and Huayno, transforming regional rhythms and melodic forms into new vocal arrangements. Characteristic is the dense, polyphonic texture of the pieces, in which solo passages intertwine with choral sections and collective voices carry narrative and memory. Recordings previously released in cooperation with Man reveal a focus on authentic, organic sounds as well as careful editing by Riaño, who brings traditional songs into contemporary contexts. The LP thus situates itself within a practice of preserving musical heritage while also reimagining it: a program that foregrounds voice, community, and diasporic identity in a unifying way.

Kelly Hunt’s “Requiem For A Sleepless Night” LP is released on Compass. The third album by the Memphis-raised singer-songwriter was created during sleepless nights and takes her exploration of love, fear, and the search for meaning in a particularly personal direction.

At its center is a contemporary, guitar-driven sound, while Kelly Hunt uses her distinctive tenor banjo only at selected moments. Her music combines folk, blues, and old-time traditions with idiosyncratic drones, finely placed rhythmic impulses, and percussive guitar playing. The vocals remain closely intertwined with the instrumentation, shaping the songs not only through melody, but also through timbre and verbal emphasis.

“Requiem For A Sleepless Night” was once again recorded at Cypress House Studio in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Kelly Hunt worked in a focused trio lineup with renowned producer Dirk Powell, who also contributes musically, and his daughter Amelia Powell on harmony vocals. The twelve tracks include “Clouds,” “A Certain Shade Of Blue,” and the closing “Requiem.” With this album, Kelly Hunt continues to develop her distinctive blend of narrative songwriting, traditional roots, and contemporary sonic aesthetics.

Leo Santi’s debut album, “Mormaço da Gente,” is being released on Ajabu! and combines contemporary Brazilian music with an organic, acoustic sound. The musician and producer from Taubaté, São Paulo, is presenting both his first solo release and his first album as a producer. Following his work with the band O Campo, whose music is shaped by psychedelic rock, Santi turns his attention here to Brazilian rhythms, acoustic guitars, percussion, drums, bass, and layered vocals.

The ten tracks were created over the course of a single week in Ubatuba and subsequently recorded at several studios in São Paulo. Thematically, “Mormaço da Gente” moves between the coastal landscapes of Ubatuba and Bahia and the urban scenes of São Paulo. Everyday life, birth, friendship, and personal reflections form the thematic framework of an album that draws its perspective from the artist’s present-day life.

The title track features saxophonist Thiago França, while Camilo Frade and Danilo Penteado are among the other guest musicians. The band involved consists of Leo Santi’s friends and longtime musical collaborators. Vitor Hirtsch handled the mixing and mastering. As the first musical preview, “Cores no Jardim” already revealed the album’s warm sonic language, carried by guitars, layered vocals, and a light groove.

The "Cosmic Rowers" LP by Asian Spice House is released on Eastern Standard Sounds and marks the first physical edition of the Seoul-based crew's second album, available for the first time on CD and LP. Over the course of eleven tracks, "Cosmic Rowers" develops a cohesive sonic concept in which maritime folk traditions from across Asia—from Korean seafarers' songs and the Japanese "Sōran Bushi" to Thai molam elements—are translated into contemporary arrangements with dub aesthetics, electronic textures, and a psychedelic sense of space.

The record thematically traces motifs of the sea, waves, and human desire, drawing on warm textures reminiscent of 1970s/80s productions that lend the material additional depth. The album was produced by Raffina, who also appears as vocalist and synth player; YoungEun Yoo is responsible for recording and mixing, while Christopher Longwood handled the mastering. The final three tracks are reworked into dub versions by Uncle Bongo (aka Tehiun), extending the psychedelic source material into a bass-heavy, spatial dimension.

With "Cosmic Rowers," Eastern Standard Sounds presents a multilayered statement of Asian psychedelia and world music that positions Asian Spice House as a distinctive voice between tradition and experiment.

In 2005, an 18-year-old Raphael Gimenes left the sunny shores of Brazil behind, embarking on a journey to a distant and wintry land. "Dinamarca," the Portuguese name for Denmark, became his new home, where he has lived for almost two decades. Today, he presents his third album, a deep exploration of his life in Scandinavia.Rather than being a nationalistic tribute, "DINAMARCA" tells chapters from Gimenes" life story as a Brazilian living in the northern corners of the world. It guides us through the enchanting nordic woods, the vast fields stretching to the horizon, and the timeless sea resting beneath an endless sky. The melodies of blackbirds, the dances of red deer, and the whispers of ancient oaks form the backdrop for his musical stories. Within his songs, we experience moments of deep solitude and boundless inspiration, moments where reflection and creative passion intertwine.Gimenes skillfully turns the power of love into harmonies, dedicating songs to both his companion and his closest friends. Beyond these experiences, he leads us on journeys to Denmark"s neighboring lands, Norway and Sweden, where revelations and encounters with the mystical found their way into the lyrical fabric of his songs. The album"s orchestration includes Gimenes" vocals and the resonant chords of his classical guitar.Accompanying him throughout the album are Jan Kadereit"s multilayered percussion, and Lucas Delacroix"s bass synth, who also plays the electric guitar at times. The music further unfolds with the nuances of a string quartet, and a brass quintet, both recorded in the tropical highlands of Minas Gerais. Other guest musicians feature on individual songs, such as pianist Sebastian Macchi, flautist Flavia Huarachi, cellist Lucas Almeida, and singers Gaby Echevarria, Cecilia Pahl, and Cris Ferro.Gimenes has garnered acclaim and accolades across continents. His debut release, "Raphael Gimenes & As Montanhas de Som," delved deep into the rhythms and traditions of Brazil. It rose to prominence as...

This release is part of the World Circuit 40th Anniversary colour series
Moussolou is the debut album by Malian singer Oumou Sangaré, recorded in 1989 and released in 1991. The title means ""Women"" in Bambara, signalling the album's central theme from the outset. Many of the songs draw on Sangaré's own experiences as a woman in a male-dominated society that continues to embrace polygamy. Her lyrics address issues of love, marriage, independence and women's rights with a directness that was both courageous and groundbreaking.
The music was just as revolutionary as the subject matter. Rooted in the powerful, pulse-like rhythms of the traditional Wassoulou sound and centred on the brilliant kamalengoni playing of Bénogo Diakité, Moussolou updated these traditions with modern arrangements and instrumentation that resonated with a new generation of listeners in Mali and across West Africa. Both deeply respectful of tradition and unmistakably contemporary, the album quickly became a major success, launching Sangaré's career while she was still very young.
World Circuit's Nick Gold first encountered Moussolou through a cassette given to him by Ali Farka Touré in Bamako, where the album seemed to be playing everywhere, providing an all-enveloping soundtrack to the city. Captivated by what he heard, Gold was determined to release the album internationally, beginning a long and fruitful relationship with Oumou Sangaré.
The album established Sangaré as both a formidable musical talent and a socially conscious artist, redefining how traditional Malian music could engage with contemporary issues. Its blend of cultural authenticity and fearless advocacy has made Moussolou a landmark recording in African and world music, laying the foundation for Sangaré's enduring reputation as one of the continent's most celebrated artists and a powerful voice for women's rights.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of World Circuit Records, this empowering and influential debut is being reissued on transparent turquoise vinyl. The release also includes a full-colour booklet featuring lyrics in both English and French.

The “Be A Lover” 12" by Jembaa Groove, released on Agogo, delivers a compact four-track EP that brings the Berlin-based band together with prominent guests from West Africa and the British soul scene. The record features Tim Lyre and The Cavemen., Azekel, and Fatoumata Diawara as vocalists, who shape key moments of the arrangements; Jembaa Groove uses these voices to connect melodic hook lines with contemporary Afro grooves.

Musically, “Be A Lover” links Afrobeat impulses with elements of highlife and Afro-jazz without losing sight of Jembaa Groove’s core band identity; the result feels both organic and precisely arranged. Production is handled by Yannick Nolting, mixing by Fabio Buemin, and mastering by JJ Golden, with Kingsley Okorie also involved as co-producer on several tracks. These credits underscore the warm, full-bodied sonic character of the recordings.

Released as a 12" single, “Be A Lover” comes on black vinyl in classic format and includes the tracks “Be A Lover” (featuring Tim Lyre & The Cavemen.), “Obi” (featuring The Cavemen.), “No Pain No Gain” (featuring Azekel), and “Waka” (featuring Fatoumata Diawara & The Cavemen.). The release is complemented by digital versions and a digital download with purchase of the record. In this way, Agogo continues the EP series with a distinctive contribution.

The "In Thin Air" LP by Spell Songs is released on Hudson and is conceived as a musical companion piece to Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris's book "The Book of Birds," which explores the wondrous world of birds within a narrative arc. The album follows an overarching concept that turns the book’s seven key motifs — Nest, Egg, Beak, Song, Feather, Flight, Migration — into music, creating a continuous narrative.

The recordings originated in the focused atmosphere of Ty Sanctaidd and were completed at Castle Sound Studios in Pencaitland; production, recording, and mixing were handled by Andy Bell. The ensemble features Kris Drever, Julie Fowlis, Seckou Keita, Jim Molyneux, Rachel Newton, Karine Polwart, and Beth Porter, complemented by bird recordings by Magnus Robb; Proctor handled the mastering. This line-up brings together extensive experience in folk and world music.

Musically, Spell Songs moves between contemplative folk traditions, multi-part vocal harmonies, and influences from world music; the combination of kora, whistles, electric harp, cello, and acoustic guitar shapes a richly layered soundscape. The arrangements range from delicate duets to dense ensemble passages, with lyrics and melodies that consistently carry the nature-centered themes and underscore the project’s compositional dramaturgy.

The 7" single "T'chuba T'chiba" by Dulce Neves, released on Hot Casa, presents a single track that already appears on the album "Mundo Rabida" and brings the singer’s warm, earthy voice to the forefront. The single focuses on melody and rhythm, stripping the backing down to pointed percussion and guitar figures, thereby emphasizing the vocalist’s presence.

Dulce Neves draws on a repertoire that shifts between Gumbe, Afro-Zouk, and Afro-Pop; characteristic elements include syncopated rhythms, melting harmonies, and an immediate vocal delivery that connects local traditions with modern arrangements. The artist’s background and roots shape her expression: Neves comes from Mansoa in Guinea-Bissau and is regarded as one of the country’s most distinctive voices, having gained visibility early on in modern groups such as Super Mama Djombo.

Lyrically, "T'chuba T'chiba" incorporates social observations; the lyrics touch on work, everyday life, and the tensions between aspiration and lived reality, delivered in a locally rooted language that conveys authenticity. Hot Casa is releasing the single as part of its worldwide selection of Afro-soul and tropical funk titles, bringing the track to an audience that seeks regional music in an international context.

The LP "Bandua II" by Bandua will be released in June 2026 on Ajabu! and continues the musical rendition of rural traditions. The release reconciles electronic arrangements with deep-rooted melodies and broadens the scope compared to the first album without abandoning the intimate, almost narrative voice of the songs.

Bandua, the duo of Bernardo D’Addário and Edgar Valente, weaves material from the Beira Baixa region together with contemporary production; older song forms are not copied but used as a starting point for electronic folk arrangements. Distinct features include the interplay between sparse, atmospheric textures and organic instrumentation, as well as the Portuguese-language vocal element that lends the tracks a sense of intimacy and earthiness. Guest contributions by artists such as Tempura the Purple Boy further expand the sonic palette.

Lyrically, the material ranges between folk poetry and new songwriting; titles such as "Pena no Peito II," "A Lua," and "Borboleta Branca" stand out as striking anchor points. The compositions are primarily by Bernardo D’Addário and Edgar Valente, while the production blends subtle electronic textures with warm voices and gentle rhythmic elements, creating a balance between past and present.

The "Mother Earth" LP by The Cimarons is released on Culture Factory and brings together the more solid roots reggae repertoire of the British band in a compact pressing. The Cimarons are considered one of the first independent reggae bands in Great Britain, and with their interplay and focus on rhythm and conscious lyrics they helped shape the late‑seventies scene.

Musically, the selection of tracks on this title ranges from classic roots vibes to catchy melodies, driven by a distinctive bass, precise drumming, and harmonious vocal parts. The arrangements combine traditional reggae structures with slightly pop‑leaning approaches, as documented on individual single releases from 1978. "Mother Earth" itself had already appeared as a single and is one of the tracks that brought the band more into the spotlight during this period.

The production emphasizes organic instrumentation and a clear recording approach, often with the band themselves involved in the process. Early credits contain corresponding notes on production and engineering that help explain the warm, transparent sound of the recordings. In terms of selection, this LP offers a good overview of the darker, more roots‑oriented compositions in the band’s output.

The 12" “Pure Confusion” by King Ayisoba, released on Mais Um, centers on a close collaboration with British producer Adrian Sherwood; Sherwood was responsible for recording and production and used dub techniques applied live alongside focused programming and post-production to sharpen the sessions’ raw live energy. The recordings were created predominantly live in the studio; many tracks were captured in short, concise sessions, giving the sound an immediate, organic quality.

Musically, “Pure Confusion” links the hypnotic tradition of kologo with contemporary influences: driving rhythms, sparingly used electronics, and occasional dub and psychedelic flourishes shape the album. Ayisoba, regarded as the leading kologo player, uses three distinct vocal registers and powerful spiritual imagery; his lyrics address land conflicts, illness, openness toward the unfamiliar, and ancestor veneration, for instance on the tracks “Property,” “Bemba,” “Tewigiloge,” “Nkaase,” and “Leeda-Mampanga (It’s Not My Strength).”

Additional splashes of color come from guest musicians Doug Wimbish, Ivan Hussey, Alex White, Alan Glenn, Mark Bandola, Ayuune Sule, and programmer Matt Smith, who contribute bass, saxophone, cello, keyboards, harmonica, Juno sounds, and percussion. As a bonus, the track “No Tradition, No Africa” featuring Rocky Dawuni, produced by Panji Anoff, is included. The album thus documents Ayisoba’s longstanding search for a modern, politically conscious form of expression rooted in northern Ghana.

“Some Kind Of Jubilee” by Martin Simpson is released on Topic as a double LP and brings together newly written pieces, reworked traditional songs, and new renditions from his own repertoire. The album marks fifty years since his debut “Golden Vanity” and reunites Simpson with a tightly attuned ensemble: Greg Leisz (pedal steel, known for his work with Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell), Zac Hobbs (guitar), Liz Hanks (cello), Louis Campbell (guitar), and Ben Nicholls (double bass).

Musically, Martin Simpson moves between the English song tradition and American folk and Americana aesthetics. Characteristic are his nuanced acoustic guitar arrangements, the deliberate use of 5‑string banjo, and subtle slide elements, which, together with pedal steel and cello, create dense layers of sound. The sequencing ranges from narrative ballads based on historical material to sparse, modern compositions and his own takes on well-known titles.

Recorded at Groovemaster Studio in Santa Monica and completed in Yorkshire, the production emphasizes clarity and intimacy around the voice. The double LP on Topic documents Martin Simpson as a performer and instrumentalist who preserves tradition while also seeking new sonic perspectives. This collection places the full scope of his work at the center and offers a carefully sequenced listening experience for lovers of contemporary takes on folk music.

The “Echo” LP by Sheila Chandra appears on Real World and places the singer in an Afrobeat context that channels her vocal experiments into rhythmic territory. Sheila Chandra’s distinctive, multi-hued timbre is at the center; the arrangements use the voice both as a melodic carrier and as a percussive element. This balance gives each track a clear axis of focus, where vocal ornamentation and driving grooves meet.

On the record, organic percussion merges with a pronounced pulse that leaves room for Chandra’s microtonal turns. The production emphasizes transparency and warmth, allowing individual vocal tracks and rhythms to come through clearly without overloading the overall structure. The sequencing and dynamics of the sides follow a dramaturgical thread that weaves recurring motifs and variations into a cohesive whole.

“Echo” documents a precise fusion of traditional vocal practice and contemporary rhythmic language; Real World provides a framework in which Chandra’s artistic subtleties can fully unfold. The LP thus becomes a focused chapter in her body of work, bringing voice and beat into a more immediate relationship.

The “Mawonaj” LP by As Valet is out on Oioji and was released on August 25, 2026. Mawonaj picks up the narrative of “Canne à Sucre” right where it left off, bringing that uncompromising hip-hop practice into direct dialogue with Caribbean traditions: bèlè, gwoka, and Haitian Ra Ra run through the arrangements, giving the beats fresh, organic momentum. Inspired references reach back to pioneers of Gwo Ka Modèn such as Gérard Lockel, as well as Charles Laurent of Kafé; the result is not a nostalgia project but a continuation that syncretically links Martinique and Guadeloupe.

Numerous musicians from across the Caribbean contributed to the project, including pianist Mario Canonge, ka master Sonny Troupé, saxophonist Rodolphe Lauretta, and percussionist Claude Saturne; vocal accents are provided by Lauriane Ludosky and Meemee Nelzy, while rap contributions come, among others, from Mano D’iShango and Reginald Omas Mamode IV. Tracks like “Kilti” and “Lambi” weave traditional rhythms together with a contemporary flow, while “An Kou Tombé” brings the Caribbean jazz tradition to the fore, and a Dusty remix of “Problèm An Nou” opens up additional perspectives. The album was produced by As Valet; mixing was handled by LaNote, and mastering by Blanka. The artwork is by Hecmar Laurent; layout and design are by A Cat Called FRITZ and Régine Lanoir.

The "African Flight" LP by Osibisa is released on Prestige Elite and brings together ten tracks that showcase the band's signature blend of African rhythms, powerful brass, and rock energy. The album features tight arrangements like "Time Is Right" and "Get Up" as well as more melodic passages in "Kyrie Eleison" and the distinctly percussion‑driven "Africa We Gogo," which together reflect the band's wide range between Afro‑pop, funk, and world music.

Osibisa continue their tradition as pioneers of Afro‑rock and world music: the lineup combines West African rhythms with Caribbean influences and rock‑oriented instrumentation, resulting in a distinctive, danceable sound. Characteristic elements include punchy horn arrangements, syncopated guitar lines, and a dense drum foundation; this mix defines the band's musical style and shapes the sound of the release.

The recordings were made between Roundhouse Studios and Music Works Studio in London under the supervision of band founder Teddy Osei, which helps explain the productions' immediate, festival‑like energy. The sessions rely on organic arrangements and occasional psychedelic touches without sacrificing clear song structures; in this way, "African Flight" fits confidently into Osibisa's canon and offers both groove‑driven and anthemic moments.

The 7-inch “Na Dem Problems” by Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 was released on Django Music and presents the recently recorded studio cut of this live favorite as a physical single. The A-side features the version with a guest appearance by Tom Morello, produced by Femi Koleoso (Ezra Collective), giving the recording clear, modern contours without diluting the band’s organic power.

Musically, the track combines Egypt 80’s seasoned, driving groove dynamics with striking horn arrangements and Seun’s direct, sharply focused vocal lines. Tom Morello’s guitar adds sparse, expressive accents and shifts the timbre toward a defiant rock edge without disturbing the characteristic Afrobeat pulse. Lyrically, “Na Dem” takes aim at corrupt politicians, exploitation, and hypocrisy; the message remains clear and immediate.

In a broader context, “Na Dem Problems” stands for Seun Kuti’s ongoing continuation of political Afrobeat: the band still works with long, rhythmic phrases, call-and-response passages, and a collective approach to arranging that shapes the ensemble. The 7-inch simultaneously documents a current chapter in the band’s history and captures a live favorite that fits seamlessly into the body of work of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80.

With the LP "In Concert," released on Vinyl Passion, Joan Baez takes her creativity to the next level while, on the whole, remaining true to her style. In her role as one of the defining voices of the folk movement, Baez combines a clear, almost soprano tone with restrained guitar accompaniment; it is precisely this stripped-down instrumentation that brings her interpretations and the language of the songs to the fore.

Her repertoire ranges from traditional ballads to gospel and labor songs and on to pieces by contemporary songwriters, and she reinterprets each source with precise phrasing and a distinctive articulation. Themes such as social justice and personal memory run through her work and lend her live performances an immediate, urgent presence.

It is especially on stage that Baez’s strength becomes clear: the ability to reach an audience through intimacy and compelling storytelling, without elaborate arrangements. This LP situates itself within the long arc of her artistic career and offers listeners a focused way into the interpretive tradition that has shaped Joan Baez since her beginnings.

Raw, deep and spiritual Gnawa music from Morocco to carry you through the night...

Recorded in a single late night session in a house in Casablanca, using a Tascam field recorder and 2 microphones, Dead of Night is the incredible new solo album from Maalem Houssam Guinia, the son of Maalem Mahmoud Guinia, and one of Morocco's most exciting young Gnawa masters.

The album was recorded live on the night of 3rd January 2022 in a relaxed session that lasted into the early hours of the next morning, and it captures Houssam at his most natural, singing and playing the Gnawa songs that have been with him since his birth, completely solo and free without percussion or backing vocals. Houssam described the album as containing the songs he knows best as these were the pieces his father would play and sing late into the night in their home when he was an infant.

What you'll hear on Dead of Night is raw, deep Gnawa music in its purest form played by a young Maalem who has been immersed in the culture his whole life and is a master of his craft. The whole performance has been beautifully and sympathetically captured by bassist and producer Karl-Erik Enkelman.

The A-side carries the title track, while the B-side captures the rendition by Goss One & DJ Cali, placing the song in a club-ready context.

Musically, the recording links traditional highlife elements with contemporary Afrobeat aesthetics and funky horn arrangements. This blend continues the collective’s working method, which has already brought together African, Indian, and funk-leaning influences on previous releases.

Production is handled by Frederik Kühn, who is credited with recording, mixing, and production, while mastering was done by Frederik Dejongh at Jerboa Mastering; the artwork is by Gauthier Schneider. The participating musicians are listed by name, including Joël Diarra on balafon, Stan Hennes on drums, and a horn and percussion ensemble, ensuring the track works equally well in live and DJ contexts. The LP “Foli Bah” by Khalab & Baba Sissoko brings together five tracks that fuse electronic structures and the West African griot tradition into a dense, focused soundscape. The titles — including “Filani Donkono,” “Hame,” and “Sebaya” — have Bambara names and refer to themes such as fate, trust, and communal life; the record has been released on Hyperjazz as black vinyl.

Khalab constructs carefully layered, tightening loops that leave space for the spontaneous presence of Baba Sissoko; the singer and percussionist contributes vocals, ngoni, tama, doun doun, djembe, kalimba, and karagnan, so that traditional playing styles are not merely added in, but become an integral part of the compositions. The dialogue between repetitive electronics and improvisational instrumentation shapes the character of “Foli Bah” and continues the collaboration that had already attracted attention in their earlier joint projects.

The album was produced by Khalab; mixing and mastering were handled by Giuseppe Tillieci at Enisslab in Rome, and the artwork is by Viola Masella. As a Hyperjazz release, it continues the label’s conceptual work, dedicated to connecting traditional sources and contemporary sound research. The LP is aimed at listeners interested in the intersection of Afrofuturism, jazz, and electronic sound art.

A defining figure in Irish traditional music since the 1960s, Andy Irvine’s career spans from Sweeney’s Men and Planxty to projects such as Mozaik and Usher’s Island. His repertoire blends Irish ballads with Eastern European dance forms, carried by bouzouki, mandola, mandolin, hurdy-gurdy, and occasional harmonica and guitar. This instrumental variety, together with his distinctive voice, shapes the style that remains clearly evident on “Devoted.”

'Pity Party' is the new album from Liz Lawrence. Liz dug deep and discovered her own sound, taught herself how to produce and soon realised that she had become good enough to make her own music in the way she wanted to make it, on her own terms. The fruits of her labour are brought together for this new album. She wrote six of the songs in just five days (while holed up in a dilapidated friends’ house in Cornwall) – proving that forcing herself out of her comfort zone and embracing a solitary existence - for a short time at least- reaped huge benefits for her personally and musically. Liz Lawrence is a friend and frequent touring collaborator of Bombay Bicycle Club and previously one half of electro-pop group Cash+David.

The LP *Don't Be Funny Without Me* by Le Ren is released on Royal Mountain and gathers ten tracks that credit Lauren Spear as composer and producer in collaboration with Fez Gielen and Jonas Bonnetta. Marcus Paquin handled the mixing, Heather Kirby the mastering; in addition to Spear, the credits list numerous contributors, from fiddle and cello to lap steel and banjo.

Musically, the album moves in the space between Americana and folk, carried by acoustic arrangements, occasional electric textures, and carefully placed strings. The tracks combine stripped-down song forms with thoughtfully crafted instrumentation; short, concise melodies alternate with more extended, atmospheric passages, with Spear’s clear, heartfelt vocals forming the center of each piece.

Lauren Spear, who has already toured with Jeff Tweedy, Devendra Banhart, and Men I Trust, uses the album to turn personal observations into direct, narrative songs. Special mention goes to the track “Die Inside,” featuring a guest appearance by Kacy Lee Anderson; the lineup includes, among others, bass players, string players, and layered vocal harmonies that lend the work both lyrical and sonic depth. The production stays close to the songs themselves and emphasizes the craftsmanship of the arrangements and vocals.

The “Sümbül White Vinyl Edition” by Hilal Kaya is being released as an LP on CPL-Music and presents the Danish-Turkish singer’s solo debut in a physical edition that puts the organic interplay of voice and acoustic guitar in the spotlight. The release combines traditional melodies with contemporary production and is aimed at listeners who appreciate folkloric roots paired with modern sound design.

Musically, Hilal Kaya moves between Anatolian song traditions, psychedelic folk inflections, and jazzy shades; ornate vocal lines meet subtle percussion and warm guitar textures. Her style is defined by a clear, nuanced voice that shifts between fragility and expressive power and presents folk motifs reimagined in a stripped-back yet multi-layered arrangement.

Key features of the production are the involvement of Søren Bigum and Orhan Özgür Turan as producers, as well as an ensemble of seasoned backing musicians: Søren Poulsen on drums and percussion, Henrik Poulsen on bass, Søren Bigum on guitar and steel guitar, and Orhan Özgür Turan on oud and bağlama shape the sonic space and give the pieces rhythmic and harmonic depth.

Much of the material has already been introduced through singles such as “Sultan,” “Perişan,” and “Harabe”; these advance releases showcase the album’s range and underscore Kaya’s grounding in both Scandinavian and Anatolian musical contexts. Hilal Kaya’s solo project brings together experience from collaborations with Kalaha and the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and positions her as an independent artist within a border-crossing sonic universe.
