Sash! burst onto the scene in the mid-‘90s and quickly became a worldwide force in trance and Eurodance. This album from 1998 (most of the tracks were recorded in 97) was only pressed on CD & tapes at the time. The OG CD is a rare gem, and a Cd-r was even reissued, both CD & Cd-r are pricey on discogs. So it was time to repress this prophetic project on CD (pro press) and of course press it on Vinyl format for the first time ever, after more than 27 years!

This magnificent album is all about Hermetic, Kemetic Knowledge, Knowledge of Self, very deep and spiritual release. Conscious 90's Hip Hop at its best.

Internal Symmetry features some Dope Emcees from the Bay Area such as Eclipse 427, Plado, Kirby Dominant, King Koncepts, just to name a few.

This reissue features new artwork for the vinyl. // When billy woods released Today, I Wrote Nothing ten years ago, it was an unexpected departure from a rapper who was just starting to make waves in the indie rap scene. After spending the earlier part of his career in the wilderness, woods had managed to crawl out of obscurity with the minor success of 2012's History Will Absolve Me. Dour Candy, 2013's collaboration with underground legend Blockhead drew accolades, which only increased with Armand Hammer's debut Race Music. Then, woods dropped out of sight for two years before returning with Today, I Wrote Nothing, a record that deviated significantly from what had come before. Where Dour Candy had been concise and focused, Tiwn was a sprawling 24 tracks. Where History Will Absolve Me was anchored by hard-hitting beats, anthemic songs, and a couple high powered features, Tiwn was comprised of short vignettes, quietly eclectic production, and the only guests were his Backwoodz label-mates. Only one video was released; the claustrophobic "Flatlands", shot on a shoestring budget in a Brooklyn housing project. Reviewers didn't know quite what to make of the record, and in many cases, neither did fans. As is often the case for woods' albums, many perspectives shifted as the years passed. Listeners came to see the sad, quiet beauty of Today, I Wrote Nothing; a road trip album that doubles as a meditation on life's journeys and death's hiding places. The album's power is in it's intimacy, it's insistence on holding your hand through the darkness. Now, Tiwn is considered one of the more unique and vital records in woods catalogue. The dynamic woods created with Tiwn vis-a-vis History Will Absolve Me and Dour Candy is one that would come to define his ouerve; constant experimentation, a refusal to be pigeonholed, and an unwavering search for the emotional heart of his subject. For us at Backwoodz, being able to repress this album on it's ten year anniversary is especially sweet, because we remember how long it took us to sell that original run of 500. To everyone who copped one of those and helped us keep the lights on, this is for you too, we couldn't have gotten here otherwise.

Over the decades, the image of Kompakt as a pirate ship has taken root in our minds, braving the dangers of the seven seas of the music market. Sometimes it glides with a tailwind through calm waters, sometimes it has to survive violent storms. When we set sail in 1993, we never would have dreamt that our journey would still be going on after more than three decades and with 500 releases to date.

In our fast-paced business, the 500 mark is rarely reached, so we want to celebrate it with a lavish 5LP box set. In a democratic process, we have selected 50 pearls from the thousands of tracks released over the last 33 1/3 years and pressed them onto 5 brightly coloured vinyls. Alongside many Kompakt evergreens, there are also some real rarities from the early ‘Kompakt Sound of Cologne’, which have been lovingly remastered here to shine in new splendour.

The box also contains a 144-page book that tells the story of Kompakt from 1993 to today with detailed texts and images. In addition to the manifold musical and graphic achievements of Kompakt, the multidisciplinary links to the visual arts are also highlighted here.

The Bonus Picture Disc opens with the symbolic tolling of 500 bass drums, followed by 50 locked grooves from the 5 Kompakt founders, looping into infinity at 133 1/3 BPM, and the ‘33 1/3 Years Loop Opera’ – in which the loops are combined into one track that, in its reduced essence, is more than the sum of its individual parts. The magic of groovy loop minimalism and the ‘art of omission’ are once again brought to the proverbial point.

On 23 May 2025, the big Kompakt 500 art exhibition will open at the venerable Kölnischer Kunstverein to coincide with the release. The entire visual cosmos of Kompakt will be shown here in a unique way on three floors, with the participation of many renowned artists. Of course, there will also be dancing and partying at the vernissage party, with DJ sets and live shows by the Kompakt Allstars.

Live jazzy orchestral interpretations of the Jay Dee aka J Dilla produced Slum Village classic Fantastic Vol 2!
The contributions of the late Detroit producer James DeWitt Yancey -better known to the world as J Dilla- to the world of hip-hop can't be overstated, and nowhere is his legacy more apparent than his work as a member of Slum Village. A founding member of the trio, (alongside rappers T3 and Baatin) Dilla provided the group's distinctly esoteric, free-wheeling sound, built around winding basslines, quirky drumbeats, subtle low-end frequencies, and classic jazz & soul samples. Against the backdrop of Dilla's rich production, T3 and Baatin's free-flowing style of rhyming would also earn wide critical praise, leading to comparisons as the successors to A Tribe Called Quest. All these elements would come together in a truly prodigious fashion in the early 00s, when Dilla and Slum Village would release their second studio album Fan-Tas-Tic Volume 2. The group had already made critically acclaimed waves with Volume 1, but few could have predicted at the time of its release that Dilla's production, which combined portions of alternative, gangsta, and soul hip-hop, meshed with T3 and Baatin's deft lyrical flows, would become such a far-reaching influence. Artists like D'Angelo and Erykah Badu have name-checked Fan-Tas-Tic Volume 2 as a key influences, while The Roots' drummer ?uestlove declared that they hands down "...birthed the neo-soul movement."
Enter the Abstract Orchestra. Helmed by composer and saxophonist Rob Mitchell, this 18-piece ensemble has become renowned for their distinct sound, which reinterprets some of the most famous hip-hop productions of all time (right on down to the sample material) into a unique blend of big band jazz and live hip-hop. The group has toured alongside the likes of John Legend, Amy Winehouse, and Adele among others, and have provided live backup for Mos Def, and many more. They previously have released orchestral versions of revered hip-hop record Madvillian and a tribute to Dilla to critical acclaim as well.
On this, the 20th anniversary of Fan-Tas-Tic Volume 2's release, the Abstract Orchestra are proud to pay tribute to this highly innovative hip-hop classic. Across two volumes of vinyl and a 2-CD set of studio recordings, the big band applies their own jazzy spin to Dilla's classic productions, with occasional assistance from the surviving members of Slum Village themselves. The end result is Fantastic 2020, a hybrid blend of smooth, funky brass rhythms with boom-bap sensibilities that is just the kind of tribute that an often unsung, but highly influential group like Slum Village deserves, and is a more than welcome addition to any Dilla
completist's library.

You could say The 1968 Tapes is Jazz Sabbath's third album on which the trio, helmed by longtime Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne keys and guitar player Adam Wakeman, present 7 new exploratory jazz arrangements based on Black Sabbath tracks from the period 1970-1973. You can also choose to believe the album's liner notes: Although never released until recently, Jazz Sabbath's music has been finding its way to millions for over 50 years. Through a vicious cycle of personal tragedy and plagiarism the songs intended to change the jazz world ended up giving birth to a much darker sound. Now a third recording from the Sixties has resurfaced, perhaps their most important one. Their very first recording was rejected by the label; the label manager said it was too experimental and had no hit potential. However, these tracks were also blatantly presented as 'original songs' by that band from Birmingham a few years later. Whether they copied them from live bootlegs or if they got their hands on the mix, it doesn’t really matter. Their lasting popularity, even in the crude way they were covered, only proves just how monumental these songs were and how record labels are often wrong. With the truth now finally out there and that Birmingham band exposed as the musical charlatans they are, Jazz Sabbath have finally mastered the 1968 tapes to present their best work to the public.

"Blaque Spurm was conceived when I was ending my relationship with Poetic Groove Records for my group The Funk Family in 1993 and wanted to give a new name to my crew. Unfortunately, PGR lost their distribution with Interscope Records so it was time to reinvent ourselves and put out some new music. One day we were in the studio with my brother Borne "Baby Chill" Humbert (RIP) recording his album "Wake Up Call". He wanted me on his song "Black Sperm" so I was like "that would be a crazy name for a group". At the time, Borne was playing with the idea of calling his crew "The Secret Squirrels", so when I said was going to use the title of his song as the name of my group he was a little salty but ultimately was like that's dope and Blaque Spurm was born. I changed the spelling so it wouldn't appear so blunt and start drawing my own logos, I think the first logo I drew was the spermatozoa with the head shaped like a "B" and the stale shaped like an "S". Now I had to get with my producer Anthony "Tony D" Depula (RIP) and make an entire album based on this new name and concept so I started writing and coming up with bangers like "Bend-A-Hoe" and "Awh Fuck It“.

On my many travels to Houston I met and added to the crew two of the dopest Emcees by the names of Papa Doc, who was from Philly, and J-Nap from Queens. I also incorporated the production of some of Houston illest underground producers at the time, my homies Prodigy, Grizz and homie Itche. They were a perfect match to Tony D's melodic sound for the album. We were signed to American Recordings aka Def American when a young A&R rep and still my homie till this day, Mr. Dan Charnas, played Rick Rubin some of our music from The Funk Family album and a couple of the new BS songs. He said Rick loved the music, but when he told him our name he was blown away and next thing you know we're signing contracts and I was on my way to L.A. to meet with Rick. We recorded the album "Spurmacidal Tendencies" and released the "Splendid" 12 inch which also featured "Jizm", "Nonoxynol Rhyme'n" & "Pack Ya Shit" in 1994. We released our second single "Dayz & Dayz" & "The Cycle" a year later, but we severed ties with American shortly after and didn't release the full album until over a decade later. Now you get to vibe out to this classic album and add it to your catalog of dope shit for years to come so enjoy!" - Bobby "BeFyne" Humbert

In 1994, at the height of the gangsta rap era, Gospel Gangstaz emerged with Gang Affiliated, a game-changing debut that redefined the possibilities of Christian hip-hop. As former members of the notorious Crips and Bloods, the group brought an authenticity to the genre that was unparalleled. Founder Mr. Solo turned to Christ after surviving a gang-related shooting, and with DJ Dove (of SFC) handling production, they crafted an album that was both a raw reflection of street life and a bold declaration of faith. The album didn't shy away from the realities of the hood. Police brutality, gang violence, drug dealing, and systemic struggles were all addressed with an unfiltered honesty that made Gang Affiliated a controversial yet undeniably powerful statement. It's fearless approach led to resistance from some Christian retailers, who balked at the group's use of gang slang, particularly the word "nigga." Yet, the album's refusal to conform only made it more impactful. The streets recognized it's truth, and even mainstream artists like Coolio, Snoop Dogg, Salt 'n Pepa, and Run-D.M.C. gave it their respect. The group comprised of MC Dope, SharkE, Mic Dub, Beatnik, DJ Ace and Rawi were sporting the Seattle underground sound of heavy drums and dusty loops paired with cuts back and forth.

In addition, the album includes the "Bass Camp Demo" version of "Higher Places". The original track might be known to diggers from the excellent "14 Fathoms Deep" compilation released on Loosegroove Records in 1996 showcasing the vivid Seattle Hip-Hop scene in the mid-90's.

Music From Memory is delighted to be turning 50 with a special release: Mfm050 - V/A - Virtual Dreams: Ambient Explorations In The House & Techno Age, 1993-1997 (3xLP/2xCD). The first in a series of compilations, alongside more in depth artist-focused releases, Virtual Dreams will delve into music produced during the 1990’s that redefined the boundaries of ‘Ambient’. This was music that explored the possibilities of Ambient music within a new setting, created often by House & Techno music producers for a world beyond dance floors but made very much with the pre and post-clubbing listener in mind. When House and Techno exploded out of America in the mid 1980s a whole generation was redefined not only musically but also culturally and chemically speaking. Peaking, quite literally, with a second ‘Summer of Love’ in 1988, millions of young people across the world would experience the life-changing ups of a brave new world but with it of course came the downs; enter the concept of a ‘Chill-out’ room. Whilst early Chill-out rooms lacked a specific sound and were often soundtracked by music such as reggae and soul, slowly young Techno and House producers themselves would become increasingly interested in developing a futuristic ‘Ambient’ soundtrack to a world beyond the thud of the main room. ‘Ambient’ in this new age now though had sharper teeth than in Brian Eno's key text for ‘Music for Airports’, instead here the sounds were the mode of transport rather than the backdrop. While the melodies were pretty, the soundscape steered away from the pastoral, dreaming of outer-space and technology as opening up exciting new dimensions. Much like in the first Summer Of Love; the musicians were again exploring psychedelic, mind-altering and transcendental possibilities of music. And also much as in the first Summer Of Love, a psychedelic visual language would accompany the music. Though now the tracks could be accompanied by music videos, utilising early CGI techniques, they would look almost entirely to the future: envisioning technology, nature and humanity intertwined in a new Utopian future. Virtual Dreams of a better world. From Ambient and early Chill-out classics, to lesser known one-off projects, as well as Ambient deviations by some of House and Techno’s leading producers, Volume One of Virtual Dreams features tracks by Bedouin Ascent, LA Synthesis, LFO, Marc Hollander, Mark Pritchard & Kirsty Hawkshaw, Richard H. Kirk and more. To celebrate our 50th release the first 1000 copies include a holographic 'Virtual Dreams' sticker plus a special insert poster with artwork by Victoria Pacheco and design by Steele Bonus.

What we have here is a Slammin' piece of mid 90s rareness outta Virginia Beach by way of Soundview in the BX. Cats Might know the track 'Nuthin N Duh World' from the extremely hard to find 1998 "Can I Hit It The Soundtrack" LP. Also, the track '4Rum Duh Souf' appeared on a boot called 'Check The Flava Vol 1'. Both tracks were recorded a few years before either of those records dropped. And apparently, there was also a very low run 12" including both joints that was released in 1996, but no one, it seems, has found a copy yet. Anyone?

“In God We Trust“ is the second album from East Coast hip hop group Brand Nubian. It was released on February 2, 1993 and is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. Lead MC Grand Puba left the group to pursue a solo career in 1991, following the release of their revered debut “ One for All. “ DJ Alamo also left to work with Puba, leaving MC's Sadat X and Lord Jamar, who enlisted DJ Sincere to join the group. It was a safe bet that “ In God We Trust “ wouldn't have attempted any new jack swing crossovers or tie-dyed imagery. Though the makeover is drastic, it is convincing, with Lord Jamar and Sadat X stepping up with some of the era's fiercest, most intense rhymes and lyrics that were extremely militant reflecting the group's identity adhering to the philosophy of the Nation of Gods and Earths. The album produced two singles, “ Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down “ and “ Love Me or Leave Me Alone “ which both charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

There are also threads from her most recent projects running through 2t2. Her latest book RE-SISTERS and the score she wrote for Caroline Catz's film Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and Legendary Tapes are acknowledged, most directly on 'Threnody' which is dedicated to Delia Derbyshire and Andy Christian, an artist friend of Delia's. He sent Cosey an abstract drawing of the same name, created one night from an improvised evening where he drew while Derbyshire intoned and sang softly as she looked at the drawings, as if reading a score expressing how they made her feel. Cosey's process and the different strands that make up her work form a totality of vision.The artwork reflects the idea that the album is a "sound cameo", reflecting the light within the music, and the buzz of life that exists within all of Cosey's work. Indie heads might know U.G.O [Unbiased Ghetto Opinion] from Stevano U.G.O.'s 1999 split 12" on Echo International, but Golden Era headz have been searching for these rare AF gems forever. Ugo and his family came to the States in the early 90's from Nigeria bringing with them a distinct sound almost entirely influenced by U.S. East Coast Hip Hop. They settled in Washington, D.C. and self-released all their records, simultaneously learning the record game.

Some exceptionally rare OG's on this one yo! There are 2 tracks off the impossible to find 1992 vinyl EP as well as one Killer from the cassette version that is making its first appearance on wax. Also included is the as-hard2find "Feel This" jawn [only 7 people on DIscogs Claim they have it in their collection]. As well as these heaters, we have included 2 joints from 1994 including "Straight from the Heart" which features Knowledge aka Doodlebug from Digable Planets.

I know some cats will be saying where is this track and where is that track - some of the masters were corrupted over the years so their inclusion was impossible - BUT there might be some better versions somewhere, and the hunt continues....

As the story goes, Viktor Vaughn was an interdimensional time-traveling MC from an alternate realm whereHip-Hop was banned. He'd been exploring time and space lookingfor new dimensions to sharpen his MC skills, which eventually led him to 90s era NYC, where he found himself stranded due to a mechanical mishap with his time machine. Catch A Fire is the Wailers' fifth studio album and their major label debut for Island Records — becoming an international success after its release in 1973. The album has nine songs, two of which were written and composed by Peter Tosh; the remaining seven were by Bob Marley. While Bunny Wailer is not credited as a writer, the group's writing style was a collective process.
Although Marley may have been the main voice, every member of the Wailers made valuable contributions and they were never more united in their vision and sound.
Catch A Fire did for reggae what Please Please Me, the first Beatles album, had done for pop and rock exactly a decade earlier. An album of revolutionary genius, which combined perfect timing with lasting cultural significance, Catch A Fire laid a foundation stone for the career of the world's first and indeed only reggae superstar and established a bridgehead between the deep roots music of Jamaica and the commercial pop mainstream of the First World. Its release marked the moment that reggae truly did begin to "catch fire" on the international stage.
The result was an album with a groove that was languid, soulful, and sun-drenched, yet lean and taut as a coiled spring. The bass and drum parts — supplied by Aston "Family Man" Barrett and his younger brother Carlton Barrett, respectively — were welded together by the distinctive staccato scratch-strokes of Marley's rhythm guitar. The irresistible rhythmic tug which this produced was a revelation to the great majority of listeners discovering the band for the first time.
