Leading the soundtrack is the high-energy anthem “I Feel Alive,” written and produced by Jack Black, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt. Jack Black delivers powerhouse lead vocals with Danielle Brooks backing him up, with Mark Ronson on Bass, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, Queen of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar and Roger Manning on synthesizer. The song made its debut on March 19, when Black premiered it live on Twitch, filming an impromptu music video in front of an audience of over 250,000 fans.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Black shared, “It was a thrill to collaborate with legendary songwriters Ronson and Wyatt on the final song!”

Ronson and Wyatt also praised Black’s artistry, stating: “Jack Black possesses one of the greatest voices in all of modern recorded music. From Tenacious D’s debut album to his matchless interpretation of ‘Hanukkah O Hanukkah,’ his voice electrifies the soul and the eardrums. When he first approached us at the Golden Globes in 2023, he told Andrew and I that he had been singing our song ‘I’m Just Ken’ in his head all day—the greatest compliment we could have received. Andrew and I had an incredible experience writing this song with him, and it's one we could have only created with this extraordinary man for this wonderful film. We hope you rock the f**k out to it.”

Beyond “I Feel Alive,” Black contributes to three additional songs that capture key comedic moments in the film. “We had a blast peppering the movie with little musical nuggets throughout our journey,” he explained. “Me and Jared (Hess) went back and forth about song ideas in the weeks prior to shooting, and I’d send him little voice memos. We’d laugh our butts off and shape them to fit perfectly in the film.”

The soundtrack also features: Benee performing “Zero to Hero,” written by Bret McKenzie. A longtime fan of both Minecraft and Black, Benee expressed her excitement: “I’m so excited to be involved in this project. I’ve been a Minecrafter for years, as well as a huge fan of Jack Black. Working with Bret McKenzie has been amazing. He is a musical genius. We met a couple of years ago in New Zealand, and it’s been awesome to finally collaborate with him. I can’t wait to see the final version of the movie!”

Multi-platinum artist Dayglow, a dedicated Minecraft fan, contributes the indie-pop track “Change Song.” He shared, “Ever since I was 10, I’ve loved Minecraft. It’s one of the most creativity-inspiring games ever, so to be a part of its legacy is so awesome. I’m so honored! I hope to inspire people to keep having fun and use their imagination.”

Rock band Dirty Honey’s song “When I’m Gone” embodies Jason Momoa’s character, Garett “The Garbage Man” Garrison. Lead singer Marc LaBelle, who has some history with Black working on the show “Drunk History,” remarked: “To find out that our music would be featured in A Minecraft Movie —alongside two of Hollywood’s biggest rock ‘n’ roll ambassadors, Jack Black and Jason Momoa—is not only an exciting opportunity to introduce Dirty Honey to a whole new generation of fans, but also a full-circle moment for me and my time here in L.A.”

Rounding out the soundtrack is a score by the legendary Mark Mothersbaugh, who seamlessly blends original compositions with tasteful nods to the iconic music featured in Minecraft the game by C418. Mothersbaugh explained: “A Minecraft Movie presented a unique challenge in creating a score that balanced quirky characters with the intense action sequences. The music needed to capture the charm of the characters while also driving the high-energy moments. This required a thoughtful approach to ensure the score not only complemented the film’s action but also added depth and emotional resonance, making it a vital part of the story.”

A Minecraft Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is pressed on 2xLP limited edition purple colored vinyl. Housed in a gatefold jacket, it also includes 12" x 12" double-sided full-color insert featuring art from the film.

"Blaque Spurm was conceived when I was ending my relationship with Poetic Groove Records for my group The Funk Family in 1993 and wanted to give a new name to my crew. Unfortunately, PGR lost their distribution with Interscope Records so it was time to reinvent ourselves and put out some new music. One day we were in the studio with my brother Borne "Baby Chill" Humbert (RIP) recording his album "Wake Up Call". He wanted me on his song "Black Sperm" so I was like "that would be a crazy name for a group". At the time, Borne was playing with the idea of calling his crew "The Secret Squirrels", so when I said was going to use the title of his song as the name of my group he was a little salty but ultimately was like that's dope and Blaque Spurm was born. I changed the spelling so it wouldn't appear so blunt and start drawing my own logos, I think the first logo I drew was the spermatozoa with the head shaped like a "B" and the stale shaped like an "S". Now I had to get with my producer Anthony "Tony D" Depula (RIP) and make an entire album based on this new name and concept so I started writing and coming up with bangers like "Bend-A-Hoe" and "Awh Fuck It“.

On my many travels to Houston I met and added to the crew two of the dopest Emcees by the names of Papa Doc, who was from Philly, and J-Nap from Queens. I also incorporated the production of some of Houston illest underground producers at the time, my homies Prodigy, Grizz and homie Itche. They were a perfect match to Tony D's melodic sound for the album. We were signed to American Recordings aka Def American when a young A&R rep and still my homie till this day, Mr. Dan Charnas, played Rick Rubin some of our music from The Funk Family album and a couple of the new BS songs. He said Rick loved the music, but when he told him our name he was blown away and next thing you know we're signing contracts and I was on my way to L.A. to meet with Rick. We recorded the album "Spurmacidal Tendencies" and released the "Splendid" 12 inch which also featured "Jizm", "Nonoxynol Rhyme'n" & "Pack Ya Shit" in 1994. We released our second single "Dayz & Dayz" & "The Cycle" a year later, but we severed ties with American shortly after and didn't release the full album until over a decade later. Now you get to vibe out to this classic album and add it to your catalog of dope shit for years to come so enjoy!" - Bobby "BeFyne" Humbert

On 11 November 2022, the symbolic start of Cologne‘s carnival season, a memorable concert was recorded at King Georg Jazz Klub: Muriel Grossmann and her quartet played a live set that transformed the club into a musical island. While the carnival hustle and bustle gradually died down outside, King Georg offered music lovers an evening characterised by musical depth. Subdued lighting, an intimate club atmosphere, groove and the optimised sound created a parallel universe of interpretative expansiveness and spiritual contemplation. Many see the saxophonist, who lives in Ibiza, as a promising voice in European jazz. With her unmistakable sound between modal jazz, blues and spiritual sounds, she‘s built a worldwide reputation with albums such as Golden Flute, Reverence, Quite Earth & Universal Code. Born in Austria, she began her career in Vienna before going on tour internationally with her quartet. Her music, inspired by greats such as John and Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, is imbued with a spiritual depth and a musical vision. The recording from King Georg is their first live album. Together with Radomir Milojkovic on guitar, Abel Boquera on Hammond organ and Uros Stamenkovic on drums, Grossmann creates a cosmos of sound that is as meditative as it is powerful. In contrast to studio albums released between 2018 and 2022, which were strongly anchored in modal jazz, this recording shows the quartet‘s development towards an increasingly psychedelic, bluesy and moody fusion sound aesthetic. The release also marks the launch of the new Cologne-based label PowerHouse Records. After several studio albums on the Estonian label RR Gems, a compilation on the British label Jazzman Records and an album on Jack White‘s Detroit label Third Man Records, ‘mgq live im King Georg, Köln’ is the discographically indispensable ‘Live at’ album.

"Yaramaz," the forthcoming album by Berlin-based musician Güner Künier, is scheduled for release on March 21, 2025, under the label Flirt 99. It is the follow-up to her debut . n December 2022, Künier released her debut album, "Aşk" (Turkish for "love"), which blends old-school and industrial beats with lo-fi guitars and synthesizer sounds. She sings in both English and Turkish, drawing inspiration from the psychedelic sounds of the 1970s, 1980s synthwave, and contemporary styles.The title "Yaramaz" translates from Turkish to "good-for-nothing," a term often used to describe cheeky or rebellious children. Through this album, Künier narrates her coming-of-age journey, exploring themes of self-empowerment and liberation from societal and familial expectations.

Musically, "Yaramaz" draws heavily from post-punk and minimal/synth-wave genres, while also incorporating elements of shoegaze, krautrock, and riot grrrl influences. The album delivers an empowering message: to follow one's own path without deterrence.

The lead single from the album, "Sabahlar" ("Mornings"), showcases Künier's raw and direct approach. The track features unpolished synths over minimalist beats, complemented by distorted guitars and assertive vocals, reminiscent of early synth-punk pioneers.

In support of "Yaramaz," Künier will embark on a European tour, with a performance in Berlin at Kantine am Berghain on May 15, 2025.

At the start of the 60s, a new wave of gospel-influenced jazz started to emerge, with hits such as Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers' "Moanin'" and Cannonball Adderley's "Work Song" epitomizing this evolution in the genre. The terms "soul jazz" and "funky jazz" were coined as a way to describe this new sound that was making an impact in the US and also on the other sides of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. In 1964, Ray Charles made his first visit to Japan. Then, in 1968, Martha & The Vandellas and Stevie Wonder set foot in the country, followed by Sam & Dave in 1969, Ike & Tina Turner in 1970, and B.B. King in 1971. The TV show "Soul Train" also began airing in Japan in the early 1970s. A watershed moment happened in 1973 when Sammy Davis Jr. was cast in a TV commercial for Suntory whisky — and the influence of the US Black entertainment world had really landed, with soul, jazz, and funk artists becoming household names. Nippon Columbia played a pivotal role during this turning point. The company had contracts with Buddah Records and Blue Thumb Records, releasing notable works by artists such as Gladys Knight & The Pips, Curtis Mayfield, The Crusaders, and The Pointer Sisters. At the same time, the label was also releasing several Japanese soul, jazz, and funk projects under the lead of music director Jiro Inagaki. Inagaki, a saxophonist who began his professional career in the early 1950s, honed his skills at U.S. military camps, where he shared his love of music with the Black servicemen. In the 1960s, he played with drummer Hideo Shiraki's band, which was widely considered to be Japan's representative group of the funky jazz movement. Later, Inagaki went on to pursue more cutting-edge sounds with his Soul Media project, including being a pioneering figure in the "jazz rock" genre. By working closely with Inagaki and his various musical projects, Nippon Columbia really placed the company at the center of an exciting and important period in Japanese music. In 1965, Nippon Columbia opened a recording studio in Tokyo's Akasaka neighborhood. Akasaka was also home to the first ever discotheque in Japan, the legendary Mugen, which ran from 1968 to 1987 and where many acts performed, including Con Funk Shun, the Bar-Kays, Ike & Tina Turner, B.B. King, Sam & Dave, Three Degrees, and Edwin Starr, as well as many local Japanese singers and musicians. This melting pot of creativity in the area led to the recording of many singles and albums by Japanese artists that were infused with the sounds of soul and funk. Most of these recordings were not available outside of Japan and remain rare and unknown musical gems. The selection you are holding in your hands is an explosive collection of 10 essential tracks released by the legendary Nippon Columbia label between 1969 and 1977, capturing the raw, unapparelled energy that was flowing through the air of the Akasaka streets at this electrifying time. Quarteto Novo only released one album, yet they number amongst one of the more influential acts in Brazilian music. Originally set up as a “Trio Novo” by a pharmaceutical company who wanted a live band at an event, they were then picked up by Geraldo Vandre (who was, at that time in 1966, the winner of a Brazilian music popularity competition) for a tour of the Brazilian northeast. After the tour, the trio - comprised of a very young Airto Moreira (percussions), composer, solo artist & soundtrack composer producer and arranger Theo de Barros (bass and subsequent guitarist) and Heraldo do Monte (guitar) who also went on to have a fairly successful career - was joined by multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal. Recorded in 1967, this was the first album for Airto, and it was a hugely influential release - mixing the tradition music of northeast Brazil with bebop jazz and folk. Quarteto Novo emphasized northeastern Brazilian music and acoustic instruments for an “organic” sound. This first reissue in 25 years of this holy grail is a must for any lover of Brazilian jazz, samba and folk music

The composition premiered on April 21, 2024, in Tilburg, Netherlands, following an intense three-day rehearsal and recording period at Metropole Orkest’s studio in Hilversum. This performance—now captured in the album—also marks a unique collaboration with British arranger and conductor Simon Dobson, whose sensitive transcription and arrangement of Philipp’s music for orchestra elevates the work to an auditory spectacle. Lux Tenera — translated from Latin as “tender light”— is an odyssey of sound and thought. Philipp’s poetic lyrics — delivered in both English and German — weave a tapestry of vivid imagery and allusion, guiding the listener through a world where life, memory, and transcendence coalesce. This intellectual and emotional alchemy is heightened by the orchestral elements at play: a 50-piece ensemble, the primal resonance of two large-scale Taiko drums, and the ancient, raw timbre of the Carnyx, performed by Patrick Kenny. Finally the first official vinyl reissue of the original Trovajoli soundtrack. Originally dated 1968 this is possibly one of the greatest Italian cult “road” movie of all times ! Composed by Maestro Armando Trovajoli and featuring Alessandro Alessandroni Cantori Moderni, this is a glorious mix of visionary epic sounds for a thrilling trip through exotic Africa. The plot of this film was in fact located in Angola, then a Portuguese colony. So, by poetic license, the music is heavily influenced by Brazilian rhythms. One of the highlights of the record surely is "Angola Adeus" with Cantori Moderni and mysterious drums added. A piece of music which conjure the sense of adventure and wide spaces.

The incredibly rare cassette-only 1996 debut of North Philly's Vaughn Smith has finally been restored on this brand-new vinyl edition from Hip-Hop Enterprise. Diamondz and Pearlz is a surprisingly mature, understated and jazzy album that sounds better now than it ever has before. Working with Smith, who produced all 14 tracks himself, the original DAT masters were recovered but severely damaged, so this release was remastered by Jee Van Cleef from an original tape in addition to further vinyl mastering. The artwork was started by LDL but due to his busy schedule Manu the Muk took over and brought everything to an impressive end. The album will also come with an insert that features an all-new, exclusive Vaughn Smith interview by Werner von Wallenrod.⁠

After Dazzie Dee was dropped and the album was shelved he dropped "The Re-Birth" on indie label "Raging Bull Records". This album contained some of the tracks including unreleased material that didn't make the cut for "Where's My Receipt?".⁠ Now for the first time ever the album will be available on double vinyl, with the original cover of the promo CD, original tracklist and also the incredible bonus track "On My Cide (Solo Version)".

Produced by DJ Battlecat and guests include Coolio, Ice Cube, K-Dee, Tha Chill, Sqeek Da Primadonna and Mixmaster Spade.

The artwork started by LDL but due to his busy schedule Pino One took over and brought everything to an impressive end. Remastering by Jee Van Cleef in addition to further vinyl mastering.

With the release of Love (the) Ominous World, Blu & Exile have returned with an album that brilliantly builds on their soulful, reflective foundation with stunning musicality and sharp songwriting. Their shared history as one of hip-hop’s best duos continues to grow, especially as they venture into new territory while embracing and refining what made them special.

“This album is our most unique work to date,” Blu says. “We took a different approach with the direction, while still staying true to the culture our music has built with our fan base.” That direction is one that finds the two California natives crafting records that would sound right at home on the radio and hip-hop charts. Like “Suga & Butta,” for example, which features recent Def Jam signee Rae Khalil, and rising start Ahmad Anwar. Every element of the track is as sweet and smooth as its namesake, from the lyrics to the production. Love (the) Ominous World is equally as potent when Blu & Exile find their groove venturing into other territory as well. “Suge Knight,” which Ex talked his collaborator into recording, is a thrilling retelling of Blu’s meeting with the infamous co-founder of Death Row Records. On “Undisputed,” the duo showcases their respective talents as Blu blacks out over Ex’s scratches and beat-switching production. And of course, there’s the album’s lead single, the jaw-dropping “Love Is Blu” with longtime collaborator Aloe Blacc. For Blu & Ex, hearing the final version of this was a moment.

“It was the feeling you imagine you'd want to feel after working so hard on something, to make it all worth it, at least for just that moment,” Exile says. “But that’s all we needed to feel, to know we were done.”

Love (the) Ominous World is a defining moment for Blu & Exile, who are eager to share it with both their longtime fanbase, as well as those just catching onto their celebrated discography.

The Queens-based duo of Pharoahe Monch and Prince Po shined brightest on their 1994 sophomore LP “Stress: The Extinction Agenda,” which is receiving a reissue to mark its 30th Anniversary. Backed by dark, bass-heavy, and jazzy production, “Stress” showcased Pharoahe and Po’s dynamic and ever-shifting rhyme styles and electric chemistry from start to finish, creating an album that is an undisputed classic among hardcore Hip Hop fans.

The classic album featured guest appearances by Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest and O.C., with guest production by Buckwild and Rockwilder. In 1998, the album was included as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. In an era where flexing original styles was mandatory to gain respect, few Hip Hop groups were more respected than Organized Konfusion.

Because it's the passion for music that drives the person behind the decks, a dj's debut is bound to exude authenticity. It's often themselves they're recounting in music, posing on the slip mats their DNA and what makes them who they are.
When you're just starting out, you're faced with a multitude of routes to take and styles to play. When you know just how devastating it can be to step out of line and empty the dance floor even faster than it filled up, it often takes a lot of audacity to break the unity of a funk evening with a punk track.
Over time, to evolve is to find oneself facing only two roads.
On the first one, to satisfy the greatest number of people and not lose the credit for his fees, the dj adapts to the trend. Whether he likes what he's playing or not, the road has become a freeway and, indeed, a very comfortable one. The audience already knows everything there is to hear and doesn't come to hear anything else. Thirty seconds, or even a minute of each track, is more than enough. Everything has to flow quickly. Everything is marked out and secured. Those who respect the regulations will (normally) make the journey without accident. Several times a week, several times a month, several times a year. Curiosity disappears altogether.
And then there's the other road. Where nothing is expected nor sometimes even ever heard. The road of an unquenchable passion for diggin' and the desire to always know more and more. A passion billed at the price of hours of research-finding spent in the discomfort and possible disappointment of never coming across anything exciting, as well as nights exploring platforms and multiplying clicks resulting in a good old headache. Until that moment of grace happens when, after thousands of fruitless shakes, the nugget stands alone in the sieve, without the slightest doubt as to its quality.
Coming from places never mentioned for their music, sometimes classics of their genre, they are also rarities miraculously saved from total disappearance, as much as current marvels, but threatened to never leave the immensity of the web. Even if the possibility of a text with substance is never excluded, they can tell long stories or be destined solely to make you dance till you're dehydrated. Scintillating with spirituality, some can also vaporize energy and replace it with a pure emotion capable of touching hearts in the bareness of simple percussions.
This road is marked by sincerity, singularity and surprises, but always in a communion between the dj and the audience, who embark on it together, with mutual confidence in the promise of hours of sharing and discovering.

Between paying his dues at Hip-Hop Shop, building a buzz from his Out of Focus EP, and enjoying more visible success after joining the renowned group Slum Village, Elzhi always had a one-of-a-kind penchant for lyrical wizardry. With multilayered rhyme schemes, uncanny metaphors, and inventive concepts, he persistently had a case as the most gifted rapper in his city — even when Eminem dominated the charts.
But even some of his most dedicated fans knew that he hadn’t crafted a legacy-defining album yet. Such records often come from pain, and in 2009, that’s exactly what he dealt with: his Slum Village groupmate Baatin suddenly died in July, longtime manager and Detroit rap impresario HexMurda suffered a nearly fatal stroke two months later, and he went through a messy public breakup with SV the following year.
In 2011, Elzhi fearlessly took on the biggest challenge of his career: remaking Nas’ GOATed debut album Illmatic in his own name. He
enlisted four-piece band Will Sessions to put a live, vibrant spin to sounds originally crafted by producers like DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and Large Professor, and demonstrated lyrical wisdom about when to maintain the original spirit of a song and when to switch things up. He conjures images of the blocks he grew up on with “Detroit State of Mind,” recounts a romance with a woman who had a traumatic childhood on “One Love,” and uses “Memory Lane” to take a nostalgic cruise through childhood connections before the pain from such reflections is too much to bear. The technical proficiency was potent as always, but emotiveness made Elmatic blossom: the wistfulness of his mother’s flowing hair before chemotherapy took it from her, falling in love with a woman he met
in the mall, the palpable pride in the peaks and valleys of his city. It was a detailed, refined version of the introspection displayed on Out of Focus. Elmatic proved that Elzhi didn’t just have prodigious talent — he had a city to represent, and he had a story to tell. —William E. Ketchum III
