The Tstd Edits 19 7" by Monsieur Van Pratt is released on Too Slow To Disco as black vinyl and includes two new versions. The Mexican producer and musician returns with his second two-track edit excursion into the world of rare cover versions from Mexico. His work for the TSTD series combines meticulous cut-and-paste craftsmanship with a preference for fresh, little-known source material.

On side A, “Solo Tu Y Yo” delivers a slow disco edit of an extremely rare late-’70s Mexican cover version of the Bill Withers classic “Just The Two Of Us.” Side B, “Junto A Ti,” is a mid-tempo reworking of a Mexican take on “Upside Down” (Diana Ross with Nile Rodgers), putting the focus on pronounced rhythmic drive and condensed vocal arrangements. Both edits rely on distinctive rhythms and inventive arrangements that place the original melodies in a fresh context.

His first 7", featuring an edit of the Bobby Caldwell composition “What You Won't Do For Love,” ranks among the most frequently repressed and commercially successful entries in the TSTD EDIT series. It’s Italian time! Sam Ruffillo is back. Sicilian producer doing smooth Balearic disco with Italian vocals. The direction is clear: Sam Ruffillo’s music brings us back into the Italian riviera and the hippy days of Ibiza in the late 1970ies. Even his way of production is similar to how the early days disco producers in Italia used to work: No samples needed. Instead a few guest musicians come to jam over Sam’s beats in his Italian studio space. Guitar, bass, percussions. Sam later makes the production and added keyboard solos and put together the vibes into what is this new EP. The girl voice comes from Ninfa. It’s the classic studio story: Ninfa is a singer and DJ and friend of Sam. She was hanging at the studio while Sam was finishing these tracks. She stated to sing along… the words came up spontaneously… so they decided to record her and finally decided to keep them. The vibe was too good. Why talk English if u can do it better: in Italian! :) This is second for Toy Tonics after his Sport House EP from last year. Sam also appeared on the solo record of Joel Holmes on Toy Tonics. Together with Kapote Modica he co-produced and made the beats on that record. Now Sam is back with this pure Italian EP. “Fairlight” by Dea is being released as a 12-inch on the Rush Hour Store Jams imprint and brings together four new tracks by the producer previously known for the project Precious Bloom. The starting point for “Fairlight” was the purchase of a Yamaha DX1; a preset sound found there called Fairlight sparked the initial idea. From this came the desire to develop an Italo-wave-inspired approach that feels contemporary while referencing the characteristics of early electronic music. The compositions are less bound to the repetition-based structures of classic dance music and instead unfold in a narrative way, allowing melodies and harmonic progressions room to develop.

Bob the Landlord became known in Rotterdam after appearing in Roy Dames's legendary documentary about the harbor cafe Willems Kantine. He was a loud and direct landlord who rented small rooms to people around the area. Bob was famous for his strong Rotterdam attitude and the way he spoke to people without filtering his words.

One of the most famous moments was when Cowboy Jos asked him for five euros. Bob angrily replied, "Five euros? On your face!" This line later became a well-known quote in Rotterdam.

Sekouba Bambino’s ‘Sebema’ first time on vinyl (previously CD / cassette only) with edit treatment from frequent collaborators Pete Blaker & Dionisos on the A-side and the original on the flip.

Originally released in 2004 by the Guinean multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, this cut was taken from his Ambiance Ballon album. Real name Sékouba Diabaté, he was previously a member of Bembeya Jazz National, who are regarded as one of the most significant jazz groups to emerge from Guinea as well as joining Africando All Stars in the late 90’s. Bambino went on to pursue a solo career and released projects throughout the early 2000’s on Syllart Productions.

The edit by Pete Blaker and Dionisos overdubs sound effects, additional percussion and guitar licks to build tension throughout the track and emphasises that hypnotic chorus.

Norman Gervais and Charles Bals return after last year’s Transcoastal compilation with their first project for the Italian label Periodica Records and its newly founded imprint, Periodica International. The concept behind SiRENE 89 is quite particular and took six years to develop. It is presented as the live recording of one long evening, with different bands taking the stage one after another on the terrace of a Mediterranean holiday resort in 1989, inspired by the places Charles and Norm remember from their summer holidays around that time. The songs were recorded between 1982 and 1993 and gathered from small-time artists, beach-club vagabonds, local micro-labels, library records and privately released tapes. The music moves lightly between mystical ballads, digital samba and loose, sunburnt dance songs, carried by drum machines, not-quite-tuned guitars and college-band voices. The audience on the terrace remains quietly present throughout, joining the tracks into one continuous, partly improvised set. By the end, it feels less like a compilation and more like a place where you have spent the night, proving that charm can carry further than perfection.

The “Palmy Daze” 12" released on Unlimited Capacity features four mixes that deliberately shimmer between cosmic and Balearic aesthetics. At the center is the Jex Opolis x Lexx version of “Palmy Daze,” in which Jex Opolis combines breaks, clever vocal chops, and a rolling bassline; strands of acoustic guitar add extra texture, while Lexx handled the final arrangement and mixdown. This rework noticeably ramps up the energy while still opening up space for danceable moments.

The original version of “Palmy Daze” takes a more mellow approach, aimed at those transition hours between day and night: airy, slightly dreamy, and with room to breathe. “Allure” moves in similar territory, but with more earthiness and stronger percussion, creating a sense of warmth and expansiveness. The “Surf Rider Mix” is aimed squarely at Balearic playtimes; by foregoing a continuous kick drum, the breakbeat and bassline are allowed to swell more dramatically and form waves that carry you back to shore.

A deep cut from the extensive back catalogue of South African group Splash, significant artists in the narrative of the country’s fiercely independent Gallo Record Company, Cwpt presents two uplifting mixes of 1990’s ‘An Eye For An Eye’, arranged by a modern day hero of the craft, Lipelis.

Originally released in parallel with the official beginning of the end of South Africa’s decades-long Apartheid, lead vocalist Daniel Tshanda dispels the philosophy of the track’s title, instead offering a still poignant call for unity; “An eye for an eye is no good… Let’s live together as one.”

Lipelis’s carefully crafted take retains this sentiment front and centre, while nudging the arrangement toward contemporary dancefloors, enriching a steady and bubbling mix of colourful keys, bubblegum percussion and a lifting backing chorus that includes another Gallo sensation, Dalom Kids.

These same voices form the spiritual centre of Lipelis’s 12” dub version, which further demonstrates the track’s irresistible rhythm, making space for complimentary piano melodies from Lipelis, alongside collaborator Eugene Piankov. Here, sunsetting piano lines dance with the analogue techniques of Lipelis’s own production instincts, forging a blissful tribute to a potent moment in South African musical history.

The Rotterdam-based production duo and DJ Seutek initially bonded over their love of records, long listening sessions, and spontaneous DJ sets at Seutek’s record store. One evening, Seutek performed his poem “Ruimte Zat” (“In Space There’s Space Enough”); his vocals were recorded that same night, and Vesuvio Vortex shaped the foundation of the record from that session. Bordello A Parigi releases this origin story as a 12-inch without unnecessary embellishment, placing a clear focus on the voice and arrangement.

On the A-side, Sugar Plant delivers “Just Be There,” a home-studio rendition built from a looped two-chord electric piano figure, carefully executed filter sweeps, and a bass track that began as a guitar recording and was then turned into an analog-sounding synth foundation (Doepfer MS-404). Layered synths, a guitar solo that doesn’t appear until late in the track, and spontaneous vocal takes recorded in a hallway create the nocturnal, deep house-adjacent mood Shin’ichi Ogawa was aiming for.

The B-side features Dub Squad with “E.D.E.N.,” a deliberately restrained piece built around a bell/gong motif (presumably a Yamaha DX-7), an SH-101 bassline, Juno-106 pads, MS-404 sequences, and sampler effects. “E.D.E.N.” later made its way onto the soundtrack of the feature film “Ping Pong” (2002), thereby reaching a wider audience. Forest Jams presents both cuts in a precise 45 RPM pressing, highlighting the production details and instrumentation of the original recordings.
