The “Dirty Talk” 7-inch by The Mr K Edits is released on Most Excellent Unltd and features an instrumental edit of the Italo disco classic of the same name by Klein & MBO. The A-side runs 5:21 and focuses on the distinctive synthesizer pulse, prominent bassline, and driving 808 rhythm of the original, released in 1982.

Behind the project is New York DJ and edit specialist Danny Krivit, who, as Mr K, rearranges extensive disco, funk, and soul archives for use in the club. On “Dirty Talk,” he reduces the extended source material to its most effective elements and maintains the tension with a clearly defined groove. The characteristic synthesizer hook remains present throughout, while the rhythmic structure is compact and geared directly toward the dance floor.

The B-side, “Cannonball,” follows the same principle and expands the 7-inch with a second instrumental edit. Both tracks come from the series of releases through which Most Excellent Unltd presents well-known disco and boogie recordings in a concentrated form. “Dirty Talk” thus combines the cool electronics of early Italo disco with Krivit’s precise editing technique and an unusually long playing time for a 45 rpm release.

Lyn Christopher’s A-side is based on the original American version from 1973, whose deep bassline and smooth groove form the core of the track. Using high-resolution audio from the original master tapes of the highly popular albums "brasilian SKIES," "jolly JIVE," and the early best-of album "all OF ME," remastering and cutting were performed by Alex Wharton at London’s Abbey Road Studios. Alex Wharton is one of Abbey Road's representative engineers, having worked on the mastering of albums by Paul McCartney & Wings and The Chemical Brothers.

Pilgrim's Paradise is Daniel Caesar's second EP, released independently on November 12, 2015. While Freudian (2017) became his commercial breakthrough, Pilgrim's Paradise is widely considered the project that established his artistic identity. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, folk, and jazz influences, the seven-track EP introduced the intimate songwriting, spiritual themes, and emotionally rich vocal performances that would later define his career.

The EP was created during a formative period in Caesar's life as he reflected on faith, love, identity, and personal growth. Growing up in a deeply religious household, he often found himself navigating the tension between spirituality and human desire, a theme that runs throughout the project. Rather than presenting straightforward love songs, Pilgrim's Paradise explores vulnerability, loneliness, redemption, and the search for inner peace. Its title reflects the idea of life as a spiritual journey, with "pilgrimage" serving as a metaphor for self-discovery and emotional healing.

Musically, the EP is understated and organic. Built around warm piano, subtle guitar arrangements, sparse percussion, and layered harmonies, the production creates an intimate atmosphere that allows Caesar's expressive vocals to take center stage. Frequent collaborators Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans helped shape the project's sound, while Toronto jazz collective BADBADNOTGOOD appears on "Paradise" alongside Sean Leon, adding a richer instrumental texture.

Among the standout tracks, "Death & Taxes" examines the inevitability of hardship and the desire for purpose, while "Paradise" reflects on the tension between temptation and salvation. "Streetcar," a reimagining of Kanye West's "Street Lights" from 808s & Heartbreak, has become one of Caesar's most beloved songs, transforming the original into a soulful, acoustic meditation on change, loss, and acceptance. The EP closes with "Little Rowboat," a gentle and hopeful conclusion that reinforces the themes of perseverance and emotional resilience.

Although Pilgrim's Paradise was released independently and received limited mainstream attention at first, it earned widespread critical praise and helped Daniel Caesar build a devoted following through word of mouth and streaming platforms. The project was longlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize, and songs such as "Streetcar" and "Paradise" remain fan favorites. The "Carlos. Erasmo..." LP by Erasmo Carlos is released on Tamba and marks an important turning point in his body of work, in which he fuses pop, soul, and the influences of the Brazilian music scene of his time into a sound that is very much his own.

The record captures Erasmo Carlos in a songwriting mode that touches on both personal and social themes; rich in melody yet rougher than many of his earlier recordings, it presents a blend of Jovem Guarda roots, MPB sensibility, and occasional soulful shadings. Arrangements and harmonic details create space for vocal lines that define the distinct character of his sound.

In the production, Erasmo worked closely with Manoel Barenbein; the arrangements are mostly by Chiquinho de Moraes, while several individual tracks feature additional notable contributors. Instrumental contributions by musicians such as Dinho Leme and Liminha give the record extra drive, and the track "Ciça, Cecília" was realized as a special production by Nelson Motta with an arrangement by Arthur Verocai.

Standout tracks include "De noite na cama," "Ciça, Cecília," "26 anos de vida normal," and "Maria Joana," spanning the spectrum from introspective ballads to more rhythm-driven cuts. Taken as a whole, the LP showcases the powerful songwriting and stylistic versatility of Erasmo Carlos.

The Frozen Flashes 12" by Okvsho, released on Hip Dozer, documents the Zurich project of brothers Christoph and Georg Kiss in a working method that tightly intertwines live improvisation and studio-based editing. In sessions in Zurich and London, the musicians played together; short, spontaneous moments, rhythms, and textures were captured, then sampled, cut, and arranged into nine carefully sculpted pieces. The result sits somewhere between jazz and fusion and uses the unpredictability of recordings as a compositional principle. Guests such as Azekel, Melodiesinfonie, FloFilz, Tenderlonious, and Hadel contribute individual accents; their contributions add sharp highlights and expand the instrumental palette.

On this 12", Okvsho and Hip Dozer show how fragmentary ideas can ripen into concise themes; brief recordings become starting points for entire tracks that feel both raw and fully worked out. Frozen Flashes is thus less a conventional album in the traditional sense than a collection of moments that puts spontaneity front and center and makes the structural arc between live session and studio work visible.

Sonny Clark recorded a series of sublime piano trio dates for Blue Note that focused entirely on standards from the Great American Songbook and leading jazz composers of the day as heard on the new 2-LP set "The Art Of The Trio." Recorded over three sessions at Rudy Van Gelder's Hackensack studio: in October 1957 with bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones, in November with bassist Jymie Merritt and drummer Wes Landers, and again in December with Chambers and Landers. Those two latter recordings, along with alternate takes from the Sonny Clark Trio session from October, would later be released in Japan as "Blues In The Night and The Art Of The Trio," and are compiled into a single vinyl package for the first time here along with a booklet featuring new liner notes by Syd Schwartz, original liner notes by Ben Sidran and Bob Porter, and never-before-seen photos by Francis Wolff.

The Austrian double bassist, synth sorcerer, programmer, and graphics artist collaborated with an esteemed list of greats including Anthony Braxton, Karl Berger, and George Russell, all while releasing a stream of temporally shattering electro-acoustic fusion albums on labels such as ECM throughout the 1970’s and ‘80s. ‘Kontrabad’, a centerpiece from his 1984 Computer & Jazz Project I, couldn’t be more representative of the album’s titular declaration, and proves ample subject matter for Claussell’s ever-reaching remix practice. Peter Gröning’s percussive flurry is buttressed with appended drum fills, while the jaw-dropping technique and timbre of Roidinger’s virtuosic bass playing is given clearance to stretch and breathe within the foregrounded ebb and flow of synth arpeggios. The “Kasso” 12-inch by Kasso, released on High Fashion Music, brings an influential track from the early history of Italian disco into two new reworkings by Ben Liebrand. “Kasso (Ben Liebrand Remixes)” builds on a project developed in 1981 by composer and keyboardist Claudio Simonetti together with producer Giancarlo Meo.

Kasso emerged at a time when disco, jazz-funk and electronic music were increasingly overlapping, giving rise to a distinctive Italian dance sound. At its center were Simonetti’s striking piano and keyboard parts, which gave the project a distinctive melodic signature. With tracks such as “Kasso,” “Key West,” “One More Round” and “Walkman,” Kasso attracted particular attention in France and Italy. “Walkman” became a major success there, while the music was later also embraced by clubs in New York and Chicago.

For High Fashion Music, Ben Liebrand takes on this characteristic material. The Dutch DJ, producer and remixer, known for his “In the Mix” broadcasts and the “Grandmix” series, preserves the melodic core of the original while reworking it for the dancefloor. The A-side features the “Ben Liebrand ‘Stop & Go’ Remix,” while the “Ben Liebrand Club Mix” occupies the B-side. The first part recreates on stage the concept album "The Rainbow Goblins," which Takanaka created based on the inspiration he drew from Italian painter Ul de Rico’s picture book "The Rainbow Goblins," while the second part is made up of Masayoshi Takanaka’s hit songs. Now, for the first time, that full performance sees the light of day as a single audio work.

A huge rainbow neon arch stretched across the stage, with its seven colors lighting up in various patterns in sync with the music. Combined with what was then a state-of-the-art laser show and a mountain-like stack of equipment onstage, it created a fantastical world. The seven musicians appeared wearing costumes in different goblin image colors, while Takanaka, dressed in a yellow jumpsuit with rainbow-colored hair, played a rainbow-colored Yamaha SG. The world of "The Rainbow Goblins" that Masayoshi Takanaka, already at the peak of his popularity as one of Japan’s leading guitarists, brought to life onstage returns now, on its 45th anniversary, with vivid sound. The analog edition consists of three LPs in clear lime yellow, clear red, and clear blue, evoking both the three primary colors of light and the colors of the rainbow Yamaha SG Takanaka played in the first part of the concert. It also comes with a booklet packed with photographs capturing this fantastical stage production created with the latest technology of the time. Mastering and analog cutting were handled by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios London. Liner notes are by Masayoshi Kondo and Yoshinobu Maruyama.

The “Drift” LP by Noah X Petter is released on the Berlin label Leiter and marks the debut of the duo of bassist and producer Petter Eldh and drummer Noah Fürbringer. Six short compositions, each just under three minutes long, work with sampling, improvisational moments, and studio-focused reduction; as a result, the album develops the punch of a mixtape aesthetic without sacrificing compositional density. Musically, “Drift” moves between jazz and fusion, weaving in pointed hip-hop impulses and electronic textures into precise grooves.

Production and performance are handled entirely by Fürbringer and Eldh; all tracks are written, performed, and produced by the two of them. On “DEEP NOTE,” Talib Kweli appears as a guest with a freestyle verse, a clear highlight of the record. Recording took place at Koma Industries; mixing was done by oh.no.ty, mastering by Zino Mikorey, and the vinyl cut by Andreas Kauffelt. The artwork features a photograph by Manic Cinema, and the layout was designed by Studio Torsten Posselt. “Drift” offers on the Leiter label a compact, precisely crafted introduction to the Noah X Petter project, translating the intersection of jazz, beat culture, and electronic sound work into small, focused forms.

The pieces make use of recurring breath and breathing sounds, noise-soaked brass fragments, and abstracted clarinet lines, resulting in a sound image that is contemplative and physical at the same time. The compositions draw impulses from deep listening practice and the idea of internally remembered sounds.

The material emerged from a combination of new recordings and rich archive sounds; sessions with Johanna Orellana on flutes and Eivind Lønning on trumpet were condensed into a multi-layered sample pool and further processed electronically. Melodic fragments recede in favor of textures, so the production more often feels like an acoustic memory fragment than a conventional song format.

“Memoria” presents Carmen Villain as an artist balancing between improvisational presence and studio-based experimentation. The clear vinyl pressing emphasizes the airy nuances and subtle dynamic shifts of the recordings, making vinyl a fitting medium for this dense, slowed-down sonic landscape.

More than four years in the making, Tiki Shack Recording Studios AKA Smiling C Records & Mike Patricola present Pipe Dreams — a compilation of sidewalk surf bands, tropical troubadours, and soothing sounds from just beyond the reef.

Compiled by Mike Patricola, Pipe Dreams is the culmination of years spent exchanging obscure recordings, pursuing a shared feeling, and uncovering a sub-genre of overlooked songs that could be woven into a story of surf, snorkel, and sun. Drawn from Patricola's collection, the compilation aims to capture the feeling of endless summer, and serves as an ode to the freedom of island living: Bikini-shaped sunburns, coconut stands closed due to perfect swells, slack guitars, perpetual sunsets, guppies darting through shallow water, and afternoons spent face-down in the sand.

Spanning the late 1970s through the mid 1980s, Pipe Dreams gathers forgotten pop, lounge, soft rock, AOR, disco, and private-press oddities into a time capsule that seeks to epitomize an era that existed before life became mediated by screens. One in which technology was more naive and society was less reliant upon it. Time moved slower, people were better able to connect with their surroundings, and the dream of moving to a coastal utopia felt more attainable.

Each side unfolds as its own chapter.

Side A begins with Midwestern lettermen The Sunset Kidds, whose hypnagogic harmonies on “Darlin’” evoke the Beach Boys mired in the post-summer doldrums. Australia's Simplex 2 follow with the previously unreleased “Tiger Bay”, capturing the slow pulse of a perfect beach day through low end groove. Don Moore's infectious “Water Lily” arrives via a romantic Fire Island love affair, while Cay Gottlieb contributes a dose of Bahamian Balearica. To close the side out, Tennessee crooner Ron Holmes delivers an extra dose of salt on the margarita rim for good measure.

Side B shifts into a more upbeat surf-disco and pub-rock mode. Montreal’s Dino Pacifici’s nostalgic ode to carefree summers long passed, followed by Marseille's own The Students "Ocean Lifestyle" — which sits somewhere between Shuggie Otis and The Stranglers. Another Montréalais artist Pierre Rochette delivers a chuggy surf-disco belter, while Special Edition Band ventures from boozy rock into a washed-out paradise with glistening guitars.

Side C serves as an ode to tropical troubadours — intimate songs that range from drum machine lounge to private island bedroom recordings. Japan's Twin Cosmos, actual identical twins, dream up beachfront breezes on "Coconuts Wind." Hawaiian songwriter Dennis Soares offers the delicate and deeply personal "One World," while Ossie Parker Jr. supplies some Bahamian barroom sophistication. Miles Corbin brings sounds straight from the tiki hut, and lounge lizard Glen Banks takes us into the final intermission with a lullaby live from the Coconut Grove.

Side D catches a wave back in. Meri-Lynn & The Key Lime Pie Band celebrate the Florida Key life, Dennis Soares returns for one final Hawaiian postcard, and the Latin band Acapulco contribute a hefty dose of sunny positivity akin to one of Brian Wilson’s cheerier tunes. To round it out, Rick Sharp injects a touch of Bossa cheek and fantasy, and British pub blokes Contrast steer the compilation back toward where it all began — a destination somewhere between a Beach Boy California paradise, a remote oceanside lounge for loners, and a sleazy coastal timeshare.

The “Blues Masters Live” LP by Tony Joe White on APO documents a previously unreleased live performance by the songwriter and guitarist, recorded as part of Blues Masters at the Crossroads. The recording was made in October 2003 at Blue Heaven Studios in Salina, Kansas, and showcases White’s distinctive style: gritty vocals, growling harmonica, and his characteristic electric guitar, which lends a concise, compelling foundation to classics such as “Polk Salad Annie” and “Steamy Windows,” as well as original compositions like “Willie and Laura Mae Jones.” He is joined onstage by drummer Marc Cohen, giving the set an immediate, rhythm-driven foundation.

The concert was recorded directly to analog tape. Engineers David Baker and Katsuhiko Naito were responsible for the recording, and Matthew Lutthans mastered it at The Mastering Lab from the original analog tapes. APO has the production pressed on 180-gram vinyl and presents the LP in a Direct-to-Board gatefold jacket with old-style Tip-On printing by Stoughton Printing; the record was pressed at Quality Record Pressings. This live document distills White’s raw Southern blues into a concentrated form and adds an immediate performance to the artist’s discography—one that combines familiar songs and deeper album cuts with direct, spirited musicianship.

The “Darkest Light” 7-inch by Lafayette Afro-Rock Band, released on Strut, brings two essential tracks by the influential group together on a single for the first time. At the center is “Darkest Light,” whose distinctive opening with saxophone and horns became a defining motif in hip-hop history. The track originally appeared on the album “Malik” and was sampled by artists including Jay-Z, Public Enemy and Wreckx-N-Effect.

Twenty years after forming in Tommy Brenneck’s apartment in Bushwick, the Menahan Street Band return with *Illusions*, their fourth full-length album, released on Brenneck’s label Diamond West Records. The band – Tommy Brenneck, Dave Guy, Nick Movshon, Leon Michels, and Homer Steinweiss – have each pursued a range of projects in the years since. Brenneck has produced for Baby Rose, Rogê, and Kirby, toured with The Budos Band, and runs Diamond West Records and its studio. Guy plays trumpet with The Roots and on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* and has released his own solo album; Steinweiss has recorded his own solo album and worked with Movshon on several platinum album projects; and Michels continues as El Michels Affair, runs Big Crown Records, and has produced Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated albums for Clairo and Norah Jones. Cecil Payne’s “Zodiac” LP is released on Strata East and documents a session recorded in 1968 at TownSound Studios in Englewood, New Jersey, and first released in 1973. Payne is at the center on baritone and alto saxophone, with all compositions written by him. The recording also forms the third installment of Strata-East’s Dolphy Series.

For “Zodiac,” Cecil Payne assembled an all-star quintet: Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Wynton Kelly on piano and organ, Wilbur Ware providing the foundation on bass, and Albert “Tootie” Heath on drums. The session was produced by Clifford Jordan. The music combines Payne’s distinctive, sonorous baritone sound with dynamic ensemble interplay and ample room for extended improvisation.

The album’s material ranges from “Martin Luther King, Jr. I Know Love” and “Girl, You Got a Home” to the more than twelve-minute “Flying Fish.” The release is dedicated to the memory of Wynton Kelly and Kenny Dorham, both of whom died after the recordings were made. The compilation “Soundcity Joburg - South Africa's Township Soul” is released by Analog Africa as a double LP in a gatefold sleeve. It focuses on Johannesburg’s township soul scene between 1969 and 1981, when South African musicians combined influences from American soul and funk with local rhythms, jazz, reggae, disco and Afrobeat.

The 22 tracks demonstrate how distinctive this musical language became in the townships. Beat Set opens and closes the compilation with “I Dig Soul,” while Dudu And The Big Time Boys bridge the gap between soul groove and danceable rhythms on “How Long?” and “Can You Feel It.” “Take It” by Philemon Hamole And Abafana Besimanje, “Crazy Baby” by Phillip Mallela With J.B. Express and “Swing Africa” by Reggie Msomi & His Jazz Africa are also among the defining moments of this selection.

Analog Africa connects the music with the history of its creation and supplements the double LP with a 16-page, magazine-style booklet. It features rare photographs, historical newspaper clippings, biographies and other archival materials. The editorial work was produced with the participation of Volkan Kaya, Samy Ben Redjeb and Sam Mathe; Michael Graves handled the mastering, while Jordan McLeod was responsible for the restoration. In this way, “Soundcity Joburg - South Africa's Township Soul” paints a multifaceted portrait of that South African sound world, which developed its own distinct form from international influences and local traditions.

Cartola’s “Cartola” LP on Tamba presents the late, formative period of one of Brazil’s most important samba composers in a calm, carefully arranged form. The album documents compositions such as “O Mundo É Um Moinho” and “As Rosas Não Falam,” distinguished by sparse guitar accompaniment and a uniquely warm, resonant voice. In TRAFO, Opek connects his cinematic visions to his love for jazz music, creating a dark and cloudy deep groove soundscape, filled with hallucinations and slivers of time travel. The mostly instrumental album scratches different genres, including spiritual jazz, rare groove, and of course library and 70s film music.

Recorded live in his Cologne studio by a five piece band, Opek pays homage to influences like Wayne Shorter, Soft Machine, David Axelrod and Marc Moulin’s Placebo. The recording setting gives the album tension and vividness on one hand, intimacy and warmth on the other.

Helmed by multi-instrumentalist/producer Sebastian Nagel and longtime collaborator Lucas Kochbeck on drums, Sweets serves as a timely reminder of how Hamburg, Germany's music scene helps shape and influence today's soul sound. Ultimately, bringing musicians like Kimo Eiserbeck (sax and flute) and Hans Stephan (trumpet), alongside some additional drum contributions by Max Whitefield (née Weissenfeldt), demonstrates the close-knit nature of these musicians. From influential bands like Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band to Angels of Libra and the Mighty Mocambos, Hamburg's deep groove scene has sired its share of worthy soul and funk acolytes. These musicians have shared stages and studios over the years, with various configurations finding their way in the aforementioned bands. "We started as a school project_ we were just kids," Sebastian recalls. "It's a family thing, and we really know each other well." The Boxer LP by The National is being released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab as a 180g 45RPM 2LP pressing sourced from the original masters. The edition is strictly limited to 3,000 numbered copies; the records were pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing and delivered in a Stoughton gatefold jacket.

The production process follows an audiophile chain: a 16-bit/44.1 kHz digital master, routed through an analog console to the cutting lathe. The 45RPM pressing with wider grooves enables more precise detail retrieval, preserved high frequencies, and high groove definition; ultra-quiet surfaces and meticulous pressing further contribute to this.

Musically, Boxer marks the band’s rise to a distinctive voice of the 21st century. The album combines literary-inflected storytelling with expansive arrangements, endowing the songs with both intimate and monumental moments, and grapples with themes of domesticity, maturity, and escapism. Aaron and Bryce Dessner provide memorable guitar passages and elegant piano lines; Scott and Bryan Devendorf shape the rhythmic fabric with shifting meters and a subtly jazzy inflection; Matt Berninger delivers the lyrics in a restrained, unmistakable baritone.

Orchestral, brass, and string arrangements round out the sound; contributors include Padma Newsome (violin, viola, organ), Sufjan Stevens (piano), and Thomas Bartlett (keyboards, accordion).
