Logan S. Washington (a.k.a. Skell) was born in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York City. His earliest hip-hop influence was A Tribe Called Quest, which helped shape his love for storytelling, rhythm, and perspective. By age 10, Logan had already begun writing, rhyming and describing the world around him before the inner city fully took hold. At 12, when his mother and father relocated the family to Charlotte, North Carolina, he leaned deeper into his craft, sharpening his skills and making a name for himself by killing cyphers in school and throughout the city.

At 15 years old, he met his mentor and producer Brian Dunovant, a turning point that helped define his musical direction. Soon after, Logan released his East Side cult classic „Icebergs" (1998), featuring Ekips, Tuff M.C., Peaches, K.I.M. and Supreme Killa. The project gained traction quickly, leading to interviews on Power 98 and performances at the legendary Sugar Shack. From that moment on, Logan was on his way, grounded in authenticity, lyricism and purpose.

With Sexistential, Robyn returns with her most pop-oriented album to date. Following the atmospheric Honey (2018), she once again places clearly structured pop songs at the center — nine concise tracks created at a deeply personal turning point. After the end of a long-term relationship, Robyn reorganized her life, consciously chose single motherhood, and engaged intensively with questions of sexuality, intimacy, independence, and identity.

Work on the album began in 2020 and was shaped by the pandemic. With borders closed, Robyn collaborated exclusively with Swedish companions, most notably producer Klas Åhlund. The album also features co-writes with Max Martin — their first collaboration since Body Talk — as well as a newly reworked version of Blow My Mind, dedicated to her son. Sonically, Sexistential merges classic pop structures with a hyper-modern production.

Soundpieces: Da Antidote! is the debut album by California hip-hop group Lootpack, consisting of Madlib, Wildchild, and DJ Romes, released on June 29, 1999 via Stones Throw Records. It is widely regarded as a cornerstone of late-1990s underground hip-hop and a landmark in Madlib’s career, marking his first full-length production showcase. Lootpack emerged from Oxnard, California, a creative hub that also produced artists like Oh No, MED, and Declaime—all of whom appear as guests on this record.

The sound of Soundpieces: Da Antidote! is defined by dusty samples, jazz and funk fragments, intricate drum programming, and a warm, analog atmosphere. Madlib’s production relies heavily on layered sample collages and vintage drum breaks, complemented by DJ Romes’ scratches and cuts, while Wildchild delivers sharp, rhythmically precise rhymes. Lyrically, the album focuses on classic hip-hop themes: preserving authenticity, battling weak MCs, and celebrating the art of “crate diggin’,” the practice of searching through vinyl bins for rare samples. The track “Crate Diggin’” itself pays direct homage to that tradition and has become one of Lootpack’s signature cuts.

The album contains 21 tracks with a total running time of about 78 minutes. Guest appearances include Dilated Peoples (“Long Awaited”), Oh No, MED, Declaime, Kazi, and Tha Alkaholiks, all associated with the Stones Throw collective. One of the standout tracks, “Episodes,” runs nearly nine minutes and features a posse of Oxnard-area MCs, encapsulating the scene’s collaborative spirit.

Musically, Soundpieces: Da Antidote! represents intelligent, sample-driven West Coast underground rap, intentionally distancing itself from the glossy mainstream sound of the late ’90s. Critics praised Madlib’s imaginative, jazz-infused production and the album’s cohesive atmosphere, though some noted its length and density. Nevertheless, it has come to be recognized as one of the defining Stones Throw releases—a foundation for Madlib’s later experiments as Quasimoto, Madvillain, and Yesterday’s New Quintet.

Ultimately, Soundpieces: Da Antidote! marked the beginning of a new era: it introduced Madlib as a visionary producer, established Stones Throw Records as a home for boundary-pushing hip-hop, and brought the Oxnard underground scene to international attention. To this day, the album remains a benchmark for classic, sample-based production and a testament to hip-hop’s creative independence.

GRAMMY-Award winning rap icon Nas and DJ Premier —two of the most influential and revered figures in hip-hop history—released their highly anticipated collaborative album Light-Years on December 12th via Mass Appeal, digitally. Six years to the date of his last LP, Thundercat will release his fifth studio album, Distracted, coming out April 3rd via Brainfeeder. The new album features contributions from A$ap Rocky, Willow, Tame Impala, Channel Tres, and a previously unreleased collaboration with the dearly departed Mac Miller. Distracted was primarily created in close collaboration with a new creative partner for Thundercat - the superproducer Greg Kurstin, known for his work with some of the biggest names in pop like Adele, Paul McCartney, Sia, Beyoncé, Beck and more - with additional production turns on the record from Flying Lotus, Kenny Beats (Kenneth Blume), and The Lemon Twigs.

These types of awkward, digitally-influenced situations, typical of 21st century socialization, lie at the heart of Distracted. Falling somewhere between Drunk’s frenzied look at modern life and It Is What It Is’s solemn heartbreak, Distracted is Thundercat finding a comfortable space for himself in the current era. Rather than condemn the current moment, the album sifts through it, addressing the ways distraction can be both a hindrance and a form of healing.

The drawbacks of distraction are evident in today’s attention (deficit) economy, but a true idiosyncratic like Thundercat can identify the ways in which it can be used to one’s advantage. You can’t spell ‘daydreams’ without ‘dreams,’ after all.

What he ultimately wants listeners to take from Distracted is disarmingly simple: “Just enjoy it and have fun and just know that the struggle is real and changes shape, but just to keep pushing forward.” In an era that demands constant commentary, Thundercat offers something quieter and, in its own way, more radical. UNCUT magazine previously dubbed their highly addictive sound “cosmic disco”— a fitting starting point — but as Yatta! proves, the band's sonic footprint is an ever-evolving kaleidoscope of sounds, textures and beats.
As with their breakthrough album Mount Matsu (2024), their devotion to getting the dance floor moving remains front and center. That impulse, already strong, has intensified — Yatta! lifting it to an ecstatic next level.
The result? An album that reveals a band whose groove just keeps getting deeper.

The opening track on YĪN YĪN’s new album, Yatta!, begins with a sample of the philosopher Alan Watts expounding: “There is no Yang without Yin and no Yin without Yang.”

Appropriately enough, the track – a jubilantly upbeat slice of disco action – is called “In Search of Yang,” and begs a question about the meaning of the group’s name. The group’s drummer and co-founder, Kees Berkers, explains: “Yin Yang is about balance between two different forces and Yin Yin would essentially mean two negative forces that cannot reach a common ground. So, YĪN YĪN is about finding a balance in the unbalanced.”

Certainly, over the last six years, the quartet from Maastricht in the south of the Netherlands has built a reputation for balancing an eclectic range of influences and using them to forge something that is affectionately retro and, at the same time, fresh and forward-facing.

The group’s origins lie in an experimental jam session in a remote village ballet school in 2017, leading to the release of the single, “Dion Ysiusk,” the following year. The debut album, The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers was released in 2019, followed by The Age of Aquarius in 2022. After a few personnel changes, the quartet’s line-up had, by 2023, arrived at its current form of Kees Berkers (drums), Remy Scheren (bass), Jerôme Scheren (keyboards) and Erik Bandt (guitar). 2024 saw the release of Mount Matsu, now followed by the group’s most complete statement to date, Yatta!

Across the album, YĪN YĪN specialise in creating the soundtracks to dream journeys, opportunities for the listener to visit places that exist in realms of the imagination.

This 6LP box set has been thoughtfully sequenced by Testard to honour the game's three-act structure. The tracklist is drawn from the soundtrack album and bonus tracks, with in-game mixes used in many instances. All tracks have been specially mastered for the vinyl format.

The music in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is pivotal in driving the emotive story that enraptured players have fallen in love with. Most tracks were written and recorded at Testard's home studio, with a selection also performed and recorded by the prestigious Curieux Orchestre at Midilive Studios, Paris.

Testard's debut score is a musical painting that supports the game's Belle Epoque setting. Among many others, the leitmotifs in ''Alicia'' and ''Lumiere'' are woven into the fabric of the game experience, capturing the grief and hope of the characters and the beauty of Lumiere.

You can hear this all along. In "Gelbi", a gorgeously deep and propulsive Ney flute plunges into murky waters of the melancholic Tunisian dialect sung by Marzouk Mejri. In "La Crisi'', the lyrics of a Raffaele Viviani’s poem from 1930 have been adapted to a laidback jazz-funk groove in full NG style. "Voodoo is the second studio album by D’Angelo, released on January 25, 2000, through Virgin Records. It’s widely regarded as one of the most important and transformative soul albums of its time — a visionary work that fuses funk, jazz, gospel, and hip-hop into a deeply organic and spiritual whole. While Brown Sugar (1995) helped define the sound of neo-soul, Voodoo expanded it into something more experimental, introspective, and raw.

After the success of his debut, D’Angelo withdrew from the public eye for several years. During that period, he immersed himself in the music of Jimi Hendrix, Fela Kuti, Prince, and Miles Davis — influences that are clearly reflected throughout Voodoo. The album was recorded between 1998 and 1999 at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City, originally built by Hendrix. There, D’Angelo worked closely with a loose collective of musicians known as the Soulquarians, which included Questlove (The Roots), J Dilla, Pino Palladino, James Poyser, and Roy Hargrove. Carrier’s debut album features eight elegantly rude arrangements that dance in negative space between Photek’s frictional syncopations, Rhythm & Sound’s dubwise minimalism and Torsten Pröfrock’s fractured dynamics, bolstered on two tracks by contributions from Voice Actor & Memotone, summoning a noirish, jazzier frisson to his signature metrics and temporalities.

Since hard-snagging our ears and feet in 2023 with 12”s for FELT and his own eponymous label, Guy Brewer’s Carrier has become the go-to project for anyone who had almost given up on chasing these sort of ultra-subtle but vitally distinctive new permutations in dance music. For the past two years, his unpredictable variations within a style have kept us all tip-toed and seat-edged with organisations of a finely chiselled percussive palette and smouldering ambient noise that distills the salient aspects and spirits of D&B, dub techno, electro-acoustic music and trip hop with unique traction. In effect, he’s enacted a clear leap of imagination from previous work issued as part of Commix and solo as Shifted that only continues to reveal hallucinatory psychoacoustics on this first album detail.

‘Rhythm Immortal’ sees Brewer tilt the project into slower, resoundingly more atmospheric realms, better to luxuriate in the instinctive guile and integer-stepping style ’n pattern of his incredible sound. At the album’s poles, a vocal cameo by cult gynoid Voice Actor follows from Gavsborg’s on a preceding 7” single to ideally model his sound’s mutability and compatibility with trip hop forms, and Memotone helps seal the deal with a hovering glow lent to ‘Offshore’, whilst Carrier jostles the reins throughout with masterful control of his thing, crisply purposed to the album canvas. In that context, it’s perfectly adaptable to bodies both supine or in motion, ushering a hypnagogic sway with ‘A Point Most Crucial’, and hingeing around the slightest interplay of 16th note hi-hat ruffles and recoiling reverbs on ‘Outer Shell’, or blissfully stepping on knife-edge 2-step on ‘Wave After Wave’.

The album conveys a deeply personal pulse and spiritual devotion to that kind of all-tension-no-release mode typical of so much music we love - from Kode9’s earliest re-factoring of Prince to Photek’s ‘Ni-Ten-Ichi-Ryu’, from T++/Dynamo and Traktor’s asymmetric dynamics to Burial’s shockout debut - refactored with a rare conviction in its unspoken powers to activate the eyes-shut imagination. Unmissable stuff.

In Rainbows, as a title, implies a sense of comfort and delightfulness. Symbolically, rainbows are more likely to be associated with kittens and warm blankets than the grim and glum circumstances Radiohead is known for soundtracking. There's a slight, if expected, twist at play. The band is more than familiar with the unpleasant moods associated with colors like red, green, and blue -- all of which, of course, are colors within a rainbow -- all of which are present, and even mentioned, during the album. On a couple levels, then, In Rainbows is not any less fitting as a Radiohead album title than "Myxomatosis" is as a Radiohead song title. Despite references to "going off the rails," hitting "the bottom," getting "picked over by the worms," being "dead from the neck up," and feeling "trapped" (twice), along with Radiohead Wordplay Deluxe Home Edition pieces like "comatose" and "nightmare" -- in the same song! double score! -- the one aspect of the album that becomes increasingly perceptible with each listen is how romantic it feels, albeit in the way that one might find the bioport scenes in David Cronenberg's eXistenZ to be extremely hot and somewhat unsettling. Surprisingly, some of the album's lyrics are even more personal/universal and straightforward than anything on The Eraser, the album made by Thom Yorke and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. "I'm an animal trapped in your hot car," from "All I Need," has to be one of the saddest, most open-hearted metaphors used to express unrequited love. "House of Cards" begins with "I don't want to be your friend/I just want to be your lover/No matter how it ends/No matter how it starts," and the one with the worms includes "I'd be crazy not to follow/Follow where you lead/Your eyes/They turn me." This effective weaving of disparate elements -- lyrical expressions commonly associated with the band, mixed in with ones suited for everyday love ballads -- goes for the music as well. The album is very song-oriented, with each track constantly moving forward and developing, yet there are abstract electronic layers and studio-as-instrument elements to prevent it from sounding like a regression. In Rainbows will hopefully be remembered as Radiohead's most stimulating synthesis of accessible songs and abstract sounds, rather than their first pick-your-price download. - allmusic.com

Thirteen years after their landmark debut, Italian duo Voices From The Lake (Donato Dozzy & Neel) return with their much-anticipated second album, 'II' (two) on their own Spazio Disponibile.The record marks a new chapter in one of electronic music's most revered projects.

Born from a friendship and a singular musical vision, Voices From The Lake first emerged as a one-off live performance in the Japanese Alps, later distilled into their self-titled 2012 album. That record has since become a touchstone in ambient techno, reshaping the global landscape of hypnotic and atmospheric electronic music. In the years since, the duo have performed worldwide, released a handful of EPs, worked on installations, and founded record labels, all while continuing to refine the project's unique identity. Yet the core of Voices From The Lake has always been its deep, aqueous approach to sound, a sensibility that returns in full force on II.

"The project was never meant to become what it did," the duo reflect. "At one point, we even paused it. Only to later embrace it in all its forms. II is both a continuation and a reinvention." MF TEEN: Your Concurrence In The Above Is Assumed recognises the legacy of rap’s Illest Villain, traversing MF DOOM’s discography and personas, flipping selections from Madvillain, MM.. FOOD, Viktor Vaughan, Danger Doom and more, taking care to ensure recognisable tunes such as Doomsday and Curls are represented alongside more obscure cuts such as The Gas Face, the Third Bass song that featured the first recorded verse from MF DOOM in his original moniker of Zev Love X of the ill-fated 90s NYC rap group KMD.

Helmed by Hudson Whitlock, prolific drummer and percussionist of Karate Boogaloo and Surprise Chef, Melbourne’s The Pro-Teens is a collective of instrumentalists making weirdo instrumental soul records. Drawing from the community of musicians from bands in the College Of Knowledge orbit, The Pro-Teens’ incorporate the comic book stylings of DOOM and Kool Keith, the dark flavors of Gravediggaz and Wu-Tang Clan, and the cinematic composition of Galt MacDermot, culminating in an unorthodox patchwork of cinematic soul, boom-bap funk breaks and left-field instrumental textures.

Back in 1996 "Killa Instinct" was set to be a smash, Raw Breed had all the boroughs of New York on lock. "Killa Instinct" had the makings of a classic, with features from @icet, @shafiqhusayn, @guru.jazzmatazz, @real_godfather_don & @agallahthedon and production handled by the legendary @tr_ultralife, @shafiqhusayn, @real_godfather_don, @ommaskeith and Ariel Caban.

But right before the album was about to come out, Warner called the crew into the office and said they had good and bad news: Raw Breed could take the album to another label, or be given a budget to record a new one – either way they couldn’t put this album out. Warner was giving out nice budgets at the time, so Raw Breed recorded "Blood, Sweat & Tears" instead leaving "Killa Instinct" in the vaults for the time being.

Back in 2017 the album was finally released by our friends @dustanddoperecordings and @back2dasourcerecords in limited fashion. A lot of people missed out back then so we are proud to announce a limited reissue on vinyl and CD. Shoutout to @daclassicrawbreed and @marclivegiveand for making this happen.
