R.T.CO was established in Berlin in 2010 by Tobias Bergmann. R.T.CO is an acronym for Rollo T-shirt COmpany, whose name is derived from “to roll”, as the company is rooted in skateboarding. In the beginning, it was therefore more about putting cool motifs on a T-shirt using screen printing than being a fashion brand.

Today, R.T.CO is a company that specializes in sunglasses, with all components produced and assembled in Italy. The frames of R.T.CO shades are cut from acetate cellulose sheets supplied by the two Italian manufacturers Mazzucchelli® and LAES®; the stainless steel frames are also made in Italy. The lenses used by R.T.CO are made of scratch-resistant polymer and are supplied by Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens®, which guarantees 100% UV protection.

R.T.CO distinguishes between five categories of lenses:

Cat. 0: No or very light tint – eyewear for aesthetic, fashion or comfort purposes.
Cat. 1: Subtle tint – these glasses are suitable for weak sunlight and offer limited UV protection.
Cat. 2: Medium tint – these glasses are suitable for medium sun exposure.
Cat. 3: Dark tint – ideal for use in strong sunlight, including light reflecting off water or snow.
Cat. 4: Very dark tint – these are special sunglasses for use in exceptionally strong sunlight. Not suitable for drivers.

As a standard, R.T.CO uses category 3 lenses, unless otherwise specified. All R.T.CO lenses offer 100% UV protection (UV 400), and R.T.CO glasses can also be fitted with prescription lenses.
