Established by Irving and Jack Schott in 1913, the Schott NYC brand initially produced coats in a basement on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. In the early stages, it was Irving Schott’s leather jackets that created a buzz and were branded by the name of his favorite cigar, the Perfecto. During the 1920s, Schott NYC revolutionized outdoor jackets by adding zippers. A couple of years later, 1928 to be exact, Schott NYC produced the first leather motorcycle jacket that influenced the dress code of a new generation of bikers and outlaws. When the United States entered WWII, it was Schott NYC who designed the classic bomber jacket for the US Air Force. In the mid-fifties, Marlon Brando and James Dean cultivated the image of the young, wild, non-conformist American, sporting the Schott Perfecto all day, all night. About 25 years later, it was the punk rock movement headed by The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Joan Jett as well as Blondie that created a renaissance of the Schott NYC’s Perfecto.
