Along with his work as a solo artist, Lofgren has marked more than 25 years as a member of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band as well as a former member of Crazy Horse and Grin. Lofgren joined Neil Young's band in 1968 at age 17, playing piano on the album "After The Gold Rush". Lofgren would maintain a close musical relationship with Young, appearing on his "Tonight's The Night" album and tour among others. He was also briefly a member of Crazy Horse, appearing on their 1971 LP and contributing songs to their catalogue. From '71 to '74 Lofgren was active in Grin, the band he founded in '69. Solo albums and tours followed every year through the 1970s as Lofgren established himself as a top guitarist and live performer earning the respect and acclaim of his peers. Bruce Springsteen made the call in 1984 and Lofgren joined the E-Street Band for the "Born In The USA" tour. Lofgren was an instant hit with Springsteens fans through his playing and vibrant on stage persona. Lofgren remains a stalwart of the E-Street Band to the present day.

On lead guitar, Rainer Knychalla brings in his decades of experience; his lines wrap around Wolfgang Bernreuther’s vocals with richly colored yet never obtrusive phrasing. Harry Hirschmann provides on bass the deep foundation that carries the songs with calm yet powerful authority, while Earl Harvin on drums adds accents with a fine feel for groove and dynamics. On the track “Blinded By The Night,” a subtly used organ sound by Guy Sternberg expands the soundstage once more and lets you dive deep into the layers of the recording. The LP *Blues In The Mississippi Night*, released on Lomax Archive, brings together a historic encounter between storytelling and song. Alan Lomax recorded the sessions in New York in 1947, when Big Bill Broonzy, Memphis Slim, and Sonny Boy Williamson were invited into the studio after a concert for conversations and performances; the resulting dialogues about the origins and everyday life of the blues, along with selected songs, formed the substance of this remarkable document.

Musically, the release bridges rural and urban blues traditions: Broonzy contributes narrative guitar work and folk-like storytelling, Memphis Slim shapes the sound with distinctive piano and a deeply resonant voice, while Sonny Boy Williamson adds musical highlights with his harmonica and pointed interjections. The tracks move between sung pieces and unvarnished conversational passages that address social conditions and personal memories. Lomax’s approach as collector and moderator also makes the record an ethnomusicological source.

The new release on Lomax Archive presents the recordings in a revised, remastered form and brings the material back together on an analog format for the first time since the original issue. The B-side, “Lonely Girl,” is an excellent R&B ballad that also showcases Watson’s outstanding guitar work. And above all, it’s De Milo’s bold and spirited vocals that truly shine. When we started our family group, The Staple Singers, we started out mostly singing in churches in the south. Pops saw Dr. Martin Luther King speak in 1963 and from there we started to broaden our musical vision beyond just gospel songs. Pops told us, "I like this man. I like his message. and if he can preach it, we can sing it" So we started to write "Freedom Songs," like "Why Am I Treated So Bad," "When Will We Be Paid For The Work We've Done," "Long Walk To DC," and many others. Like many in the civil rights movement, we drew on the spirituality and the strength from the church to help gain social justice and try to achieve equal rights. We became a major voice for the civil rights movement and hopefully helped to make a difference in this country. It was a difficult and dangerous time (in 1965 we spent a night in jail in West Memphis, Arkansas and I wondered if we'd ever make it out alive) but we felt we needed to stand up and be heard. So for us, and for many in the civil rights movement, we looked to the church for inner strength and to help make positive changes. And that seems to be missing today. Here it is, 2007, and there are still so many problems and social injustices in the world. Well, I tell you we need a change now more than ever, and I'm turning to the church again for strength. With this record, I hope to get across the same feeling, the same spirit and the same message as we did with the Staple Singers and to hopefully continue to make positive changes. We've got to keep pushing to make the world a better place. Things are better but we're not where we need to be and we'll never turn back. 99 and 1/2 just won't do! - Mavis

In 1965, just one year after Paul Butterfield had formed his blues band – named after himself - and launched one of the very best groups among the white Chicago blues community, the band produced this dynamic and visionary album. The group presents a wide range of contrasting numbers, both eastern and western, which reflect the LP’s title – something totally new and innovative. In the first few titles, traditional standard numbers come over rather enigmatically while supporting original and rhythmic compactness, but this soon gives over to a tactically well-formed instrumentation and lengthy solo interludes. The all-embracing motto 'blues' is taken up by the band in Nat Adderley’s "Work Song" at the very latest, with mind-expanding ways of playing and varying sounds. Catapulted by Mike Bloomfield’s artistry on the guitar into the world of rock, all the musicians celebrate these well-known jazz standards and each man contributes his personal skill into forging a perfectly balanced team effort. The title number "East-West" ultimately demolishes the world of the blues. In the tonal mixture of confidently prepared rock ingredients and borrowings from Indian music (raga rock), we have an amalgamation of rock, blues, jazz and oriental melodies which result in an emotional, unheard-of sound that is well worth the hearing.

The LP “Muddy Waters at Newport 1960,” released on Chess, documents Muddy Waters’s appearance at the Newport Jazz Festival on July 3, 1960, and was overseen for the label by Leonard Chess. The recording captures the live setting of the festival stage and shows Waters in the role of bandleader, bringing his electric blues numbers to a large festival audience.

The LP "We're Gonna Make It" by Little Milton gathers the recordings that brought the singer and guitarist to a wider audience. The album was made during his time with Checker/Chess and includes the title hit, which proved to be the most important single of his early career and reached number one on the R&B charts. The release presents Milton at the intersection of blues and soul; it gave him his first significant chart presence and cemented his reputation as a bridge-builder between the electric blues tradition and a rhythmic soul aesthetic.

Musically, the set combines rougher blues elements with smooth, soul-oriented arrangements: prominent horns, a restrained string or orchestral backdrop in places, and a strongly emphasized rhythm section support Milton’s warm, expressive vocals. Lyrically, the title song uses a story of confidence and optimism that has often been read as a metaphor for the hopes of the Civil Rights Movement. Characteristic of Little Milton is the blend of strong vocal presence and clear guitar work, which comes through across the entire album.

In shaping the title track and the album’s arrangements, Little Milton was joined by notable writers and producers; the contributing songwriters include Gene Barge, Billy Davis, Raynard Miner, and Carl William Smith, with production handled in part by Billy Davis as well as members of the Chess team, and some of the arrangements coming from Phil Wright. The album has been repressed several times and is available again in reissues through the Chess/Acoustic Sounds series.

The 7-inch “Rejoice In Righteousness Mighty Righteous” by The Mose Dillon Bluestette, released on Echo Labs, brings together two newly reworked Hammond B‑3 pieces that clearly reference the jazz-dance and soul traditions. The A-side features a version of “Rejoice In Righteousness” that channels the spiritually tinged groove of late‑1980s jazz dance; the B-side, “Mighty Righteous,” complements the pair with an equally organic, driving flip, making the single function as a compact statement of the project.

The sound is characterized by warm organ tones, stripped-down drum patterns, and a strong emphasis on groove and timing; stylistically, the release moves between jazz, funk, and club-ready soul, with the rough demos, originally recorded in lo-fi, deliberately retained to lend the material an authentic patina. This orientation makes the record equally appealing to DJs with a penchant for retro-oriented sets and to listeners who appreciate organic instrumentation.

Behind the project is producer and DJ Chris Bangs’s discovery of the original recordings; together with Simon Ward (known as Dr Rubberfunk / Mr Güder), he carefully reworked and rearranged the tracks. Echo Labs is releasing the 7-inch as a strictly limited black vinyl pressing of 300 copies; in addition, a small number of test pressings has been produced.

Back in 2015, P-vine pressed a special edition of the Fire/Enjoy singles by Elmore James as a series of 7” discs that was quickly buried by the quick turnover of new releases and were not presented to our overseas clients. As part of a recent drive to clean up the stock-room, our dusters managed to work their magic and uncover a number of copies of this release previously unknown to the overseas marketing division. Towards the end of a career cut tragically short, Elmore James recorded a string of singles between 1959 and 1963 with renowned producer Bobby Robinson under his Fire and Enjoy record labels that would eventually lend their name to this collection. Together they would capture James’s iconic take on the blues with his effortless intersections of slide guitar complementing the marching calls from his pained Blues vocals. This feast for the eyes box-set includes nine 7” discs and a Fire Records tote bag sized perfectly for carrying your favourite 7” record and not much else. The “Live From Austin TX Indie Exclusive Red White And Blue Splatter Vinyl Edition” by Delbert McClinton presents his Austin City Limits show on LP and reissues the live recordings in this form for the first time. The recordings are taken from the broadcast of December 18, 1982; the released version came out in 2006 on New West and contains 15 tracks, including well-known covers and originals such as “I've Got Dreams To Remember” and “Turn On Your Love Light.”

Musically, Delbert McClinton moves between Texas roadhouse blues, soul rock, and country rock; his rough, earthy vocals and use of harmonica shape the recordings. Striking elements include the horn-soaked arrangements and the mix of rock and R&B numbers, which come across as particularly dynamic in a live setting. The set brings together both high-energy blues tunes and heartfelt ballads, reflecting the stylistic range of his body of work.

This is the first new Andy Boay album since 2013's In The Light. I recorded it in January 2024 to a Yamaha MT8X 8-track cassette recorder in my room at the New York Center for Creativity & Dance in the East Village of Manhattan. I mixed it in June 2024 with Joe Santarpia and Roberto Pagano at the Idiot Room in San Francisco.
The three songs on Side A (''HBM,'' ''If I Ever Come Off,'' and ''You're In The Air Now'') were initially arranged over several live performances using a multi-track looper. When I then sat down to track them to my tape machine, I meticulously sang and played out all repeating parts, layering and ping-pong-bouncing each doubled take to another tape-track. In this way I hoped to maintain the hypnotic quality of the looped parts while keeping them organic, singular, and fleeting.
Side B is a triptych of more carefully arranged pop songs: a tremolo & mod-delay elegy to youth called ''Careless,'' bookended by two variations on the same theme - the stark, mellotron prayer of ''One & One'' and the lonesome after-hours funk of ''I Want More''.
The line ''You took that walk for the two of us'' has a dual meaning. In 2011, my friend Spencer Gilley took a long walk through Montreal while listening to demos I'd recorded. He described the experience to me as magical, ecstatic, inspiring. His encouragement from that moment still echoes every time I sit down to write or record. Less than a year later, I met Florida musician Thomas Fekete. We formed a deep, brief friendship that lasted until his death in 2016. Thom entered my life during a chaotic time and helped me find direction and courage. He took me on a tour that shifted the course of my life. We bonded over surviving cancer as young men, Florida's noise scene, and the strange lives we led as touring guitarists (he in Surfer Blood, me in Mac DeMarco's band). Thom could always warmly anticipate all of my joy, humor, and curiosity-and all of my pain, anxiety, and fear. In this way, it felt like he was also taking that walk for the two of us-gently guiding me down a path he had already traveled.
Andy Boay (Andy White) began playing and recording music as a teen in Orlando during the early 2000s, exploring noise, psych, and pop in bands and solo projects. He has played in the duo Tonstartssbandht with his brother Edwin since 2007. He spent six years playing guitar in the touring band for Mac DeMarco. Andy Boay's music taps the euphoric and the sorrowful, both onstage amongst friends and strangers, and tracking alone at his 8-track in the studio. These days he lives and works in the East Village neighborhood of New York City.
