On their last trip to Silberland, Bureau B hurtled along the chrome highways and glass skyways of the kosmische landscape, powered ever onwards in perpetual motorik motion. This time, however, the Hamburg imprint opt for an unhurried itinerary, coasting far beyond the familiar rhythmic terrain to explore crystal caverns and emerald pastures, immersing listeners in the ambient side of this alternative Allemagne. Building on the tape loops, tone poems, and minimalist compositions of the 60"s avant-garde, these musicians utilised the sweeping scope of the synthesiser to create expansive meditations on outer-planetary escapism, human connection, and the natural world. This compilation offers a survey of this singular era, blending pioneering voices with lesser-known artists for an immersive sonic experience.

Die Wilde Jagd collaborates with Grammy Award-winning Metropole Orkest, conducted by Simon Dobson, for majestic new album "Lux Tenera – A Rite To Joy," commissioned by Roadburn Festival. In an extraordinary convergence of sonic innovation and orchestral mastery, Sebastian Lee Philipp, the visionary behind Die Wilde Jagd, is set to unveil his most ambitious project to date: Lux Tenera – A Rite to Joy. Commissioned by Roadburn Festival for its 2024 edition, this work emerges from a rare collaboration with the three-time Grammy Award-winning Metropole Orkest. Lux Tenera invites listeners into a meditative exploration of life, joy, and the beauty of existence. The composition premiered on April 21, 2024, in Tilburg, Netherlands, following an intense three-day rehearsal and recording period at Metropole Orkest’s studio in Hilversum. This performance—now captured in the album—also marks a unique collaboration with British arranger and conductor Simon Dobson, whose sensitive transcription and arrangement of Philipp’s music for orchestra elevates the work to an auditory spectacle. Lux Tenera — translated from Latin as “tender light”— is an odyssey of sound and thought. Philipp’s poetic lyrics — delivered in both English and German — weave a tapestry of vivid imagery and allusion, guiding the listener through a world where life, memory, and transcendence coalesce. This intellectual and emotional alchemy is heightened by the orchestral elements at play: a 50-piece ensemble, the primal resonance of two large-scale Taiko drums, and the ancient, raw timbre of the Carnyx, performed by Patrick Kenny. The result is a sonic structure that marries the primal with the avant-garde, the physical with the metaphysical. On the upcoming single "Emanation," Philipp is also joined by his longtime friend and musical companion James Cook, who contributes additional vocals. At its heart, Lux Tenera presents a bold reimagining of Die Wilde Jagd’s distinctive sound. Known for hypnotic, slow-building compositions that evoke a sense of ritual and timelessness, Philipp, in this latest work, is granted new sonic breadth by the orchestral textures of the Metropole Orkest. The symphonic scope enhances and magnifi es his compositions, creating what can only be described as a sonic architecture that is both monumental and intimate, where each crescendo, each subtle melodic turn, guided by Simon Dobson’s conducting skills, speaks to Philipp’s understanding of music as an emotional language. The album’s sub-title A Rite To Joy underscores the album’s intent as not merely a work of music but as an immersive rite—a ceremonial passage into joy. 'The inspiration for 'Album l' and 'Album Il' began with a performance by Japanese musician Eiko Ishibashi at Cologne's Week-End Fest in 2019. For this appearance the renowned experimental musician and composer of the Oscar-winning film „Drive My Car" was joined on drums by Tatsuhisa Yamamoto and Joe Talia; both integral members of the top-level improvisational/ experimental scene in Tokyo. While in town for the festival, Ishibashi met up with the members of the Cologne-Berlin based group Von Spar who featured Ishibashi on their then new album "Under Pressure".

This doesn"t mean that they had finally arrived in their promised land, but they had simply moved from Berlin to the country, to a small place called Forst on the river Weser. Many a thing had changed for band members Moebius and Roedelius since Cluster II: They had moved from boisterous Berlin to this calm rural village, they had founded the band Harmonia, had set up their own studio and had bought new equipment. As a result of this and many other things, new impulses were noticeably spurring the evolution of their music. The album Zuckerzeit ("sugar era") launched a revolution for Cluster.

Cluster can be counted among the most important international protagonists of the electronic avant-garde. Some credit them with having invented ambient music, others as pioneers of synthesizer pop, whilst to some they are firmly embedded in the krautrock universe. There is some truth in all of these notions. Cluster (or Kluster as they were in the beginning) were founded in 1970 in Berlin by Conrad Schnitzler, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius. A change in direction and musical differences moved Moebius and Roedelius to split from Schnitzler after which the duo recorded 10 regular studio albums between 1971 and 2009. Their debut album ("Cluster 71") was in Wire Magazine"s "One Hundred Records That Set The World On Fire" list. "Cluster II" is influenced by Berlin and Hamburg; situated somewhere in the middle of artistic happenings, musical outrageousness and drug abuse: an urban mixture.

"NY, Hel, Barca" is a compilation of Jimi Tenor's early works from the legendary Warp and Sähkö days (1994-2001).

Collector, seeker and storyteller Charles Bals brings his curatorial finesse to Hamburg"s Bureau B with "Ambientale", a journey into otherworldly sounds from the years 1983 - 2000. Drifting effortlessly between digital exoticism, mellow fusion, new age groove and library electronics, the pieces rangefrom largely obscure to utterly un-google-able, and coalesce into a stunning soundtrack to tranquil seas, desert sand and starlit skies. Cinematic & enigmatic, "Ambientale" is a stranger you"ve only just met but can"t stop thinking about.

There's something perversely fabulous about the thought of this warped masterwork wandering into 60,000 unsuspecting British homes in 1973. Faust's second-and-a-half album hit the shops to celebrate their signing to the nascent Virgin Records, who were looking to take advantage of the zeitgeist for German music at that time. Undeterred by the fact the band's unwillingness to engage with the commercial landscape had seen them dropped from Polydor, Branson and co cooked up a suitably spectacular marketing strategy, selling the LP for 49p, the bargain price of a single. Shoppers flocked in their thousands to grab a copy, raced home and then spent the next forty five minutes checking their tracking, banging the speakers and blowing the needle, all to no avail. What happens when you bring together two percussionists who are well-established in the electronic music scene and commission them to produce four tracks exclusively with percussion instruments-with the only requirement being not to deliver any overtly thought-out nerd music? The answer has been provided by Sven Kacirek and Thomas Klein on this release.
A few word abut the musicians:
Sven Kacirek has previously released five solo albums, including the highly praised "Kenya Sessions" in 2011. He has collaborated with Marc Ribot, Nils Frahm, Shabaka Hutchings and F. S. Blumm. In 2015 he released an album together with Stefan Schneider on Bureau B.
Thomas Klein is a founding member of the band KREIDLER and has published three solo albums on Bureau B since 2011 under the moniker Sølyst.
Although the two musicians each speak their own distinct rhythmic language, with only a few data transfers between Hamburg and Düsseldorf they have conjured up four compact tracks, which despite the instrumental limitations are surprisingly diverse in terms of sound, groove and depth.
The collaboration went like this: Each sent the other a sketch for further development and expanded upon the one they had received. In a final meeting, there were only a few formal decisions to be made and some minimal corrections. Each contributed his own spectrum of instrumental and tonal possibilities-without overdoing it. In addition to drums, cymbals, shakers, xylophone and vibraphone sounds, sonic treatments are clearly audible. In this way, the acoustic and electronically triggered sound material came into an unconventional dialogue. The musicians only met in person for the mixes at Düsseldorf's Elektro-Mueller Studio.

This is old warehouse stock and it's possible that the record sleeve shows signs of wear.
