Over the past two decades, Sully’s work has stood somewhat apart from the usual revival cycles of the UK bass scene; his productions draw on established rhythmic forms but rarely remain confined to a single tradition. Two of the tracks are solely by Les, who records as The Pharmacist; the other two were created in collaboration with Dave Charlesworth, which accounts for the solid quality of the compositions.

Petrozavodsk combines rumbling drone metal foundations with dub, experimental and improvisatory elements; compared to the earlier tape release “Winter War,” the band presents a more focused, even more massive sonic language here.

Side A opens with “Forest I” (12:20), a collaboration with electronic artist Container aka Ren Schofield, who transforms the guitars into a seething, swampy sonic fabric that simultaneously pushes forward and wears you down. “Forest II” (9:38) works with dubby spatial effects, blackened guitar sheets, monotonous low-end pulses and a far-off snare; the band took on the additional mixing of this track, causing echoes and dub-like noise elements to erode across the stereo field.

The B-side slows things down with the long-form “Fire” (18:22), building a down-tuned wall of guitar waves and collapsing bass that echoes reference points like “Amplifier Worship” or Sunn O))) without trying to emulate them. Recorded in Catalonia and Portugal with amps cranked loud, the material was mixed and mastered in London by Moa Pillar. The "Fr027" double LP by Phineus II is released on Future Retro London and brings together eight tracks that move between classic jungle and contemporary drum & bass. Many of the cuts have been staples of DJ sets for years and were pulled from the archives for this release, so the record features both well-established numbers and tracks that had remained unreleased for a long time.

Musically, the record combines driving breakbeats with heavy basslines, rapid programming and echoes of London’s old-school sound; at the same time, it shows a love of atmospheric density and sample-based textures that give the tracks a distinctive shape. The compositions vary in tempo and dynamics, but remain consistently club-ready while still being rich in detail, which defines the project’s characteristic sound.

All tracks were written and produced by M. Yates; the release also credits Kid Lib for archiving the material and notes that some cuts were originally intended for Green Bay Wax. Initially planned as a shorter EP, the project was expanded to eight tracks, allowing the record to document a broad cross-section of Phineus II’s production approach and to showcase his unmistakable style in concentrated form.
