GRAMMY-Award winning rap icon Nas and DJ Premier —two of the most influential and revered figures in hip-hop history—released their highly anticipated collaborative album Light-Years on December 12th via Mass Appeal, digitally. The Limited Day Ones vinyl editions will arrive in January and the regular artwork editions will arrive late February.

After decades of anticipation, Light-Years is a 30-year working legacy reborn. Nas and DJ Premier’s partnership is embedded in the DNA of Hip-Hop. Their origin story began in 1994 with Illmatic, which resulted in hits such as “N.Y. State Of Mind,” “Memory Lane” and “Represent.” Illmatic helped establish Nas as a generational talent and furthered Premier’s then burgeoning legacy. Their chemistry deepened over the next decade through classics like “I Gave You Power,” 2nd Childhood,” “Nas Is Like” and “N.Y. State Of Mind Pt. II.”

Spearheaded by Mass Appeal’s groundbreaking Legend Has It..., a series celebrating and spotlighting some of the most important and influential Hip Hop artists of all time, the series has gifted a year long run of historic releases from culture defining artists including; Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Big L & De La Soul. With Light-Years, Nas and DJ Premier deliver the grand finale to close out the legendary series where their undeniable synergy remains elusive.

In 2006, Nas and DJ Premier appeared on the cover of Scratch Magazine, teasing a joint project that again refueled fan frenzy and two decades worth of anticipation. Last year, Nas and Preem linked up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Illmatic with the release of a new track, “Define My Name,” where they first announced their landmark collaborative album.

Light-Years is a true testament to both artists' influence, legacy and the timelessness of the music they create together.

Limited edition of 300 copies on CD in jewel case.

"This album was born in Southeast Washington, D.C., in the winter of 1992 — a place where music was survival, loyalty was everything, and talent had to fight for air. That’s where a young rapper named Eric Jones, soon to be known as Vice Versa, began carving out a legacy that never got the shine it deserved. Vice Versa came up with his childhood friend Stan, a local DJ with crates full of vinyl and a hunger that matched his own. They spent nights in basements looping beats and freestyling until sunrise - sharpening a sound that mixed D.C. grit with New York lyricism. Word spread. Battles were won. Open mics were crushed. A voice was rising out of Southeast.

Everything changed when a street-connected visionary named Baron “B” Flemings stepped in with money, ambition, and a belief in Vice’s raw talent. Alongside him came E-Boogie (Eric Kennedy), a young industry insider with D.C. roots and New York access. Together they formed Rage One Recordings - a label funded by hustle, heart, and the kind of grind nobody teaches in music school. The sonic backbone of Rage One was Scotty Beats, a gifted engineer/producer who lived inside Horizon Studio and transformed raw ideas into polished records. With Scotty behind the boards and Vice Versa behind the mic, the crew began shaping the project that would become Basick Mentality.

Tracks like “Paradise,” “All Around The World,” “Guts & Glory,” and “Let Your Nuts Hang” were born during this era - created with passion, pressure, and the belief that D.C. had something to say. The team opened for legends like Busta Rhymes and EPMD, rehearsing day and night, chasing the breakthrough they knew was coming. The self-titled album has been released in limited quantities on CD only in 1997. But real life hit harder than any beat. As the team expanded its operations to Los Angeles and met with major labels, street life and circumstance took their toll. Jail time, mismanaged funds, broken trust, and life’s responsibilities pulled the crew apart just as the music was reaching its peak.

Then tragedy struck. In the same year, both pillars of this project - Scotty Beats and Vice Versa - were murdered. Two brilliant lives gone. Two futures erased. Two brothers lost forever. Scotty was killed protecting his property. Vice Versa was killed in a robbery in the same neighborhoods he once electrified with his voice. For years, the music was lost - buried in memories, scattered across cities, carried only by those who refused to let the story die.

This re-release is more than a project. It is a resurrection. A tribute. A testament to a crew that gave everything. To Vice Versa. To Scotty Beats. To Rage One. To the dream that lived, died, and now lives again.

This is Basick Mentality. The world finally gets to hear it."
- Eric "E-Boogie" Kennedy

Limited harcover book edition containing the album, Remixes and the Instrumentals. In Europe, only available at HHV.

The supergroup Deltron 3030 is composed of producer Dan the Automator, rapper Del the Funky Homosapien, and DJ Kid Koala, and sometimes features guest artists who also adopt varying futuristic pseudonyms. Initially released in 2000 on the now-defunct 75ARK record label, this hip-hop concept album was released the same year as Gorillaz's first 12" and is on a similar plane. Following the release of Deltron 3030, all three members participated in the Gorillaz' self-titled debut album.

With Del aka Deltron Zero on vocals, Dan the Automator aka The Cantankerous Captain Aptos on production, and Kid Koala aka Skiznoid the Boy Wonder on turntables, this album takes the listener on a paranoid journey set in a dystopian year 3030 dealing with viruses, the apocalypse, an oppressive government, and a war waged against a huge company called the Corporate Bank of Time that rules the universe, all to the well-crafted and consistent musical backing of the Automator.

Appearances by Damon Albarn (Gorillaz, Blur), Prince Paul, Peanut Butter Wolf, Money Mark, Paul Barman, Mark Bell (Bjork, production), Sean Lennon, and Mr Lif complement Del's vocal style and add the right amount of flavor to this classic period piece.

To commemorate the 25th Anniversary, the album is being reissued as a Limited Edition Deluxe 4xLP Box Set. The box set is packaged in a 12.5" x 12.5" 50-page hardbound book containing the album and all the instrumentals across four smoke-colored LPs. The 50-page book contains artwork, lyrics, and liner notes by Hanif Abdurraqib.

Limited to 100 copies.

This collector’s edition 2xlp comes in a 24pt direct-to-board jacket, with original artwork carefully restored by renowned designer Mr. Krum and audio remastered by D-Sane for Digital Age Sound. Pressed on clear vinyl with baby blue, bone, and custard splatter, the “Candy Button Splatter” variant is limited to just 100 copies, exclusively through HHV.. The Hunt for the Gingerbread Man (2007) stands as one of MF Grimm’s most imaginative and enduring works: a darkly whimsical concept album that reimagines a childhood fable through the gritty lens of New York hip-hop. Across its 13 tracks, Grimm transforms candy shops, cookie trails, and fairy-tale motifs into sharp metaphors for survival, power, and the hustle, all delivered with his trademark blend of incisive wordplay and vivid storytelling. The album bursts open with its title track, setting the tone for a narrative that is both menacing and uncompromisingly raw. Among its marquis singles is the Sammsoniteproduced “Earth,” which has amassed millions of streams and remains a fan favorite for its brooding beat and tough bars. Other standout cuts include “The Fox” and “My House,” also produced by Sammsonite, showcasing Grimm’s ability to balance cinematic imagery with unflinching realism. Production duties across the rest of the record are handled by Strychnine, Metabolis, and Aksim, whose diverse styles help shape the album’s kaleidoscopic soundscape. The result is a record that pushes Grimm’s narrative vision into new territory while cementing his reputation as one of the underground’s most uncompromising voices. For the first time since its original release, The Hunt for the Gingerbread Man returns to vinyl, newly remastered and meticulously curated by Coalmine Reissues — a timeless treat, freshly served just in time for the holidays.

A long-overdue vinyl reissue for this underground gem from the Bronx! Originally released in the late ’90s, Ghetto Chronicle Daily stands as a timeless snapshot of New York street rap in its rawest form — a true reflection of the city’s golden era grit and lyrical craftsmanship.

The Money Boss Players — made up of Big Ah (RIP), Lord Tariq, Tre Bag, Eddie Cheeba, C-Dubb, and legendary producer Minnesota — were key figures in shaping that unmistakable Bronx sound. Their chemistry was electric: sharp lyricism, vivid street storytelling, and cinematic beats that carried the DNA of hip-hop’s golden age.

This first-ever vinyl reissue brings this underground classic back to the masses in its full glory and goes a step further with bonus tracks previously unreleased on vinyl, including “Drug War Rages” and “Same Shit” — raw, unfiltered cuts that capture the crew at their most authentic. Also included is “White Chalk Pt. 2”, featuring none other than The Notorious B.I.G., a rare collaboration that cements the group’s deep roots in the East Coast rap lineage.

Since the original release, members of Money Boss Players have continued to carve their own lanes — with Eddie Cheeba and Tray Bag evolving into Boss Money, and Lord Tariq making his mark as a solo artist. In recent years, Bronx rapper Yung JB has joined the fold, carrying the Boss legacy into a new generation.

Now, more than two decades later, Ghetto Chronicle Daily returns to turntables worldwide — remastered and pressed with care for true heads and collectors alike.
A must-have piece of hip-hop history, finally on wax where it belongs.

GERDA returns with “Dark Loop 2.0” feat. Conway the Machine, GRiNGO and OG Keemo

In Dark Loop 2.0, GERDA brings structure to chaos: an American prophet, a German street poet, and a South German mystic. Three schools of expression merge into a single beat — one that sounds as if time itself were breathing in reverse.
After briefly taking over the rap scene in 2024 and landing her album at #20 on the charts, GERDA sends a greeting from the teahouse — already working on new material slated for 2026.

Recent debates sparked by Shindy have drawn fresh attention to OG Keemo’s Dark Loop from GERDA’s previous album, amid speculation about unreleased verses by Shindy and Casper.
Now GERDA is answering in her own language: on October 31, 2025, she releases Dark Loop (Remix) — featuring OG Keemo once more, this time joined by Griselda founding member Conway the Machine and Berlin’s Gringo.

Dark Loop 2.0 continues GERDA’s pursuit of collaborative energy and rhythmic experimentation — an artistic dialogue that transcends borders and styles.

A strictly limited 12" vinyl edition of the single will also be available, including the instrumental and acapella versions.

The Meth Lab returns for its third instalment with “Meth Lab Season 3: The Rehab,” a sharp, hard-hitting chapter that cements Method Man’s place as one of hip-hop’s most consistent and enduring voices. Executive produced by longtime collaborator Handz On, this project finds the Wu-Tang legend in rare form—polished, precise, and laser-focused.

“The Rehab” pulls listeners back into the world Meth has been building since the first Meth Lab sessions: a mixtape-style showcase blending razor-sharp lyricism with streetwise storytelling, packed with energy and attitude. Method Man’s flow remains timeless, weaving between gritty boom-bap, polished modern production, and the unmistakable Wu-Tang aesthetic. A strong lineup of guests brings extra fire to the set—Cappadonna, RJ Payne, Redman, KRS-One, JoJo Pellegrino, Jadakiss, Carlton Fisk, Hanz On, Intell, Iron Mic, 5th Pxwer, Chunk Bizza, Eddie I, Cortez, and more—each stepping into Meth’s world with their own hard-edged energy. Behind the boards, producers like P. Version, Rockwilder, Eric Sermon, Adam McLeer, Daniel C. Wells, Darnell Norman McConnell, and Joshua D. Zimmerman craft a gritty yet refined sonic framework that elevates every performance.

More than just another chapter, Season 3: The Rehab feels like a victory lap: a culmination of decades of craft, a celebration of the Staten Island movement, and a reminder that Method Man still out-rhymes rappers half his age. It’s a must-own for Wu-Tang fans, East Coast purists, and anyone who appreciates sharp writing and decades-deep mastery.

GRAMMY-Award winning rap icon Nas and DJ Premier —two of the most influential and revered figures in hip-hop history—announce their highly anticipated collaborative album Light-Years is set to release on December 12th via Mass Appeal.

From Where??? is the debut album by Mad Skillz, released in 1996 on Big Beat/Atlantic Records. The title reflects the question he constantly faced in the early ’90s—“Where are you from?”—because Richmond, Virginia was not considered a hip-hop hotspot at the time. Skillz uses the album to prove that lyrical excellence isn’t limited to New York or Los Angeles. From the opening track onward, he showcases sharp technical ability, rapid-fire flows, multisyllabic rhymes, battle-rap energy, humor, and vivid everyday observations.

The production lineup is a who’s-who of mid-’90s East Coast hip-hop: Large Professor, Jay Dee (later J Dilla), Buckwild, The Beatnuts, Shawn J. Period, Nick Wiz and others deliver warm, sample-heavy boom-bap beats. Dusty drums, soulful chops, and deep basslines form a cohesive sonic backdrop that perfectly matches Skillz’s precise and agile flow. One of the standout songs is “The Nod Factor”, a humorous concept track built around the idea that Skillz’s rhymes supposedly cause involuntary head-nodding—an underground classic to this day. Tracks like “Move Ya Body,” “It’s Going Down,” and “Dramas Behind the Scenes” further highlight his versatility.

Guest appearances from Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Large Professor, Brand Nubian, Miss Jones, K-Solo and others firmly anchor the album within the New York rap universe, despite Skillz being geographically outside of it. Although critics praised the album’s lyrical sharpness and production quality, it didn’t achieve major commercial success—partly because its traditional boom-bap sound arrived during a period of rapid stylistic shifts in hip-hop. Over time, however, From Where??? has become a cult classic, widely respected as one of the most technically impressive debut albums of the decade. It also helped open the door for later Virginia talents like The Neptunes, Clipse, and Missy Elliott, showing that serious MCs could come from outside the established coastal power center.

Out of print on vinyl in the United States since its original release, Get On Down is proud to present another underrated Golden Era classic on vinyl. From Where??? is pressed on half-and-half with black splatter-colored vinyl, limited to 1000 copies.

Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars is Killarmy’s debut album, released on August 5, 1997 through Wu-Tang Records and Priority Records. Right from the start, the group established its unique identity within the Wu-Tang orbit: militant themes, battlefield metaphors, guerrilla-warfare imagery and a dark, paranoid atmosphere shaped by conspiracy theories and Five-Percent-Nation influences. The title itself references a supposedly leaked 1980s document related to covert government control strategies, which perfectly matches the album’s tone. Most of the production was handled by 4th Disciple, whose grimy drums, eerie samples, and cinematic arrangements give the record a raw and cohesive sound. RZA also contributed two beats and served as executive producer, ensuring the album fit naturally within the broader Wu-Tang aesthetic while still sounding distinct. Lyrically, the crew—Dom Pachino, Islord, Killa Sin, 9th Prince, Beretta 9 and Shogun Assassin—deliver harsh, urgent verses that feel like tactical briefings. The album includes standout tracks such as “Dress to Kill,” “Wu-Renegades,” “Clash of the Titans,” “Camouflage Ninjas” and “Wake Up,” the latter featuring Hell Razah and Prodigal Sunn. Guest appearances from other Wu-affiliated MCs like Masta Killa and Streetlife deepen the record’s wartime atmosphere. Upon release, the album reached #34 on the Billboard 200 and #10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart—strong results for such a gritty, uncompromising project. Over time, Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars has become a cult classic among underground hip-hop fans, praised for its consistency, raw energy and the uniquely militant identity that set Killarmy apart from the rest of the Wu-Tang family. If you want, I can also write a flowing text comparing it directly to Dirty Weaponry.

Dirty Weaponry is the second studio album by Wu-Tang affiliates Killarmy, released on August 11, 1998 through Wu-Tang Records in partnership with Priority Records. The album continues the sonic and thematic direction of their debut Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars, but pushes the group’s trademark aesthetic even further: a dark, militant atmosphere shaped by war metaphors, Five-Percent Nation references, street-level paranoia, and a raw, lo-fi production style. Most of the beats were crafted by 4th Disciple, whose brooding, cinematic sound defines the album from start to finish. Additional production comes from Mathematics, with RZA overseeing the entire project as executive producer.

Lyrically, the album is built around combat imagery, survival narratives, and apocalyptic urban warfare themes. This creates an oppressive and immersive tone, almost like moving through a battlefield report set to music. Highlights include the haunting “Doomsday” and the sharp, aggressive “Bastard Swordsman,” both featuring standout appearances from Holocaust, who at the time was one of the most exciting and enigmatic MCs in the extended Wu-Tang universe. The production leans heavily on deep basslines, hard drum patterns, eerie string samples, and a gritty, unpolished sound that enhances the album’s militaristic feel.

Across its 13 tracks—such as “Galactics,” “Allah Sees Everything,” “Red Dawn,” “The Shoot Out,” and “Pain”—Dirty Weaponry maintains a tight, cohesive narrative. It feels less like a collection of songs and more like a unified concept, a kind of war-themed hip-hop saga. Commercially, it reached #40 on the US Billboard 200 and #13 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, respectable positions for a project that remained deeply rooted in the underground aesthetic of late-90s Wu-Tang-related releases.

Among fans, the album is widely regarded as one of the strongest and most atmospheric Wu-Tang-affiliate records, praised for its consistency, raw energy, and uncompromising vision.

After stockpiling ideas for a decade, Celph Titled was discussing his debut solo album with James DL of No Sleep Recordings in 2009. James DL was working with Buckwild, whose production in the1990s with Black Rob, The Notorious B.I.G., O.C., and others helped define the decade. James DL mentioned that Buckwild had a box of discs with unused beats from the 1990s. That’s when the concept emerged. Celph Titled would use those unreleased Buckwild beats as the sonic foundation for his forthcoming LP. Buckwild loved the idea and the pair got to work. “Instead of trying to make a record that sounded like the ’90s, we took beats that were made back at that time and made new songs,” Celph Titled says today. “That’s where the Now comes in, Nineteen Ninety Now.” Instead, Nineteen Ninety Now stands as two artists hitting their creative apex. “It really holds its place as a one-of-a-kind project,” Celph Titled says. On their fourth album Yatta!, the celebrated Dutch quartet YĪN YĪN extends, bends, and ignites a joyous mix of disco, funk, surf, psychedelia, and Southeast Asian motifs. UNCUT magazine previously dubbed their highly addictive sound “cosmic disco”— a fitting starting point — but as Yatta! proves, the band's sonic footprint is an ever-evolving kaleidoscope of sounds, textures and beats.
As with their breakthrough album Mount Matsu (2024), their devotion to getting the dance floor moving remains front and center. That impulse, already strong, has intensified — Yatta! lifting it to an ecstatic next level.
The result? An album that reveals a band whose groove just keeps getting deeper.

The opening track on YĪN YĪN’s new album, Yatta!, begins with a sample of the philosopher Alan Watts expounding: “There is no Yang without Yin and no Yin without Yang.”

Appropriately enough, the track – a jubilantly upbeat slice of disco action – is called “In Search of Yang,” and begs a question about the meaning of the group’s name. The group’s drummer and co-founder, Kees Berkers, explains: “Yin Yang is about balance between two different forces and Yin Yin would essentially mean two negative forces that cannot reach a common ground. So, YĪN YĪN is about finding a balance in the unbalanced.”

Certainly, over the last six years, the quartet from Maastricht in the south of the Netherlands has built a reputation for balancing an eclectic range of influences and using them to forge something that is affectionately retro and, at the same time, fresh and forward-facing.

The group’s origins lie in an experimental jam session in a remote village ballet school in 2017, leading to the release of the single, “Dion Ysiusk,” the following year. The debut album, The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers was released in 2019, followed by The Age of Aquarius in 2022. After a few personnel changes, the quartet’s line-up had, by 2023, arrived at its current form of Kees Berkers (drums), Remy Scheren (bass), Jerôme Scheren (keyboards) and Erik Bandt (guitar). 2024 saw the release of Mount Matsu, now followed by the group’s most complete statement to date, Yatta!

Across the album, YĪN YĪN specialise in creating the soundtracks to dream journeys, opportunities for the listener to visit places that exist in realms of the imagination.

Limited to 500 copies. Mass Appeal Records are proud to announce details of the forthcoming Big L album, Harlem’s Finest: Return Of The King. Due out this Halloween, 31st October, the posthumous release celebrates Big L’s lyrical brilliance and features unreleased gems, rare freestyles, remastered classics and more. Harlem’s Finest: Return Of The King features contributions from Nas, Method Man, Mac Miller, Jay-Z, Showbiz, Herb McGruff and others.

The album is intended to both preserve and elevate Big L’s legacy as one of hip-hop’s most gifted lyricists and is the result of Mass Appeal, Nas and the rapper’s family and estate all working together to ensure its completion. The artist’s family wrote: “Big L has a long history with Nas as they both signed to Columbia in 1992. This is a full circle moment and we are excited for y’all to hear what we’ve been working on. As some of you may have noticed, many Big L songs have been removed from streaming services over the past few years. Those songs were unmixed/unmastered, samples were not cleared and many of the producers weren’t paid or credited properly. Thanks to the team at Mass Appeal we will be re-releasing the best versions of these songs, rare freestyles and a few surprises...”

Harlem’s Finest: Return Of The King is the fifth instalment in Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It… series of records by hip-hop trailblazers, following Slick Rick’s Victory, Raekwon’s The Emperor’s New Clothes, Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele 2 and Mobb Deep’s The Infinite.

Raekwon recruits a stacked lineup of guests, including Nas, Griselda, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, and Ghostface Killah, injecting the project with gritty energy and legacy chemistry. Marsha Ambrosius and Stacy Barthe provide smooth, soulful hooks, adding emotional layers to the hard-edged verses. Production comes courtesy of Nottz, Swizz Beatz J.U.S.T.I.C.E League and more. The LP is a reminder of Raekwon’s enduring power as a lyricist and curator. A veteran artist showing that mastery doesn’t need excess. Here it is!!! - Volume Two of "Thèmes et Atmosphères" by the Saint Tropez Orchestra. Just listening to this fantastic set of soundtrack-styled funk, with its abundance of library music breaks and rhythms, will make you 87% more sexy, you will also walk taller, strut like a mutha, and possibly put you in with a chance to be the next James Bond. The groove in "Grand Fournisseur" alone is Mandingo to a tee, and "Afro Can" definitely gives the drummers some. Plenty some, to be sure. "Charley's Stoned" has the funky swagger for days. And for the connoissieurs of 1970's French, erm, adult movies, "Les Femmes" has all the sultry, slinky vibes you could wish for.

Recorded to analog 8-track at Studio Des Fontaines, again using all the old vintage gear, this surely eclipses the notoriously funky "Volume One" and it was amazing to hear it being put together over five 40 degrees days last year. Pick bass? Check! Vintage congas and cowbells? Double check! 1967 Hammond M102? Sweaty shirts and Sta-Prest flares? Yes, yes, yes! For all the b-boys and girls there's breaks galore here, and the whole album is chock full of goodness for all y'all's.

After the success of "Thèmes et Atmosphères", Saint Tropez Orchestra return with "Heavy Soul Dance Party" - 11 tracks of raw psych funk, recorded to analog tape at Studio Des Fontaines, in the South of France.

Originally, "Thèmes et Atmosphères Volume 2" was to be the obvious follow up to the debut. It was actually written and recorded many months ago, but is currently mired in licensing disputes. It will come out, but in the meantime, fed up with the waiting around, Saint Tropez Orchestra entered the studio and laid down "Heavy Soul Dance Party" straight to 4-track, needles-in-the-red, first takes and all.

The album is currently being negotiated for a vinyl release, so look out for that in the New Year.

Listening to "Heavy Soul Dance Party" is the closest you will get to experiencing Saint Tropez Orchestra rocking out in a sweaty basement club on the South French coast. Turn the volume up and get dancing!

Limited to 300 copies worldwide. This canary yellow edition is only available at HHV. Originally released in 1997, Spontaneity is the landmark debut from Houston’s K-Otix — a group whose soulful, jazz-tinged sound helped define the South’s independent hiphop scene. A true underground gem, the album delivers introspective rhymes, rich sample-based production, and the type of effortless cool that captured the raw essence of late '90s indie rap. Long regarded as a cult classic, demand for Spontaneity has remained high, with over 2,000 fans tracking the record on Discogs alone. Now, after more than two decades since its last pressing in 2004, Spontaneity returns to vinyl as the latest essential reissue from Coalmine Reissues. For the first time ever, the audio has been fully remastered ensuring the warm, analog feel of the original is preserved while elevating clarity and depth for today’s hi-fi systems. This edition isn’t just a repress — it’s the definitive version of an unsung classic. For longtime collectors and new heads alike, Spontaneity serves as a timeless reminder of hip-hop’s golden DIY era, when craft trumped clout and the underground thrived on authenticity. Meticulously restored, this is a reissue where every detail counts.

Trainspotting is a gritty, unapologetic statement from Rome Streetz and Conductor Williams, a project that pushes Hip Hop forward without letting go of its roots. Rome’s wordplay and street-coded wisdom ride effortlessly over Conductor’s signature production: raw loops, dusty soul, and stripped-down drums that echo a previous era while sounding unmistakably current. The track “Ricky Bobby” featuring Method Man is a generational bridge, proving the torch is still burning hot in the hands of those who respect the craft.

Rerelease to celebrate the anniversary and the tour with Masta Ace.

Port Authority is the debut album by Canadian hip-hop producer Marco Polo, released on May 15, 2007 through Soulspazm Records and Rawkus Records. It’s widely regarded as a tribute to the classic East Coast boom-bap sound of the 1990s. Marco Polo handled all the production himself, crafting a cohesive collection of beats built around dusty samples, punchy drums, and warm analog textures that recall the golden age of New York hip-hop.

The record features an impressive lineup of guest MCs from both the golden era and the contemporary underground scene, including Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, Large Professor, Buckshot, and many others. Tracks such as “Nostalgia” (with Masta Ace), “The Radar” (with Large Professor), “Hood Tales” (with Kool G Rap and D.V. Alias Khryst), and “Go Around” (with Buckshot) stand out as key highlights, showcasing Marco Polo’s talent for pairing sharp lyricists with rugged, soulful beats.

Stylistically, Port Authority is rooted in sample-based production: it’s heavy on chopped loops, tight snares, and an unfiltered crate-digger aesthetic. Critics praised its authenticity and consistency, calling it a refreshing contrast to the more polished or pop-influenced hip-hop that dominated the mid-2000s mainstream. Some reviewers noted that, because of the large number of guest appearances, the album sometimes feels more like a compilation than a tightly unified project. Nevertheless, the strength and coherence of Marco Polo’s production tie it all together.

The album was a breakthrough for Marco Polo, establishing him as one of the foremost producers dedicated to preserving traditional hip-hop craftsmanship. It also marked something of a revival for Rawkus Records, a legendary label that had been home to artists like Mos Def and Talib Kweli in the late 1990s. Port Authority is now considered one of the standout producer albums of the 2000s—bridging generations of hip-hop artists and listeners, celebrating the art of beat-making, and reaffirming the enduring power of classic, sample-driven hip-hop.

The Fearless Flyers V marks the return of Cory Wong, Mark Lettieri, Joe Dart and Nate Smith with a tight blend of instrumental funk that is both energetic and refined. Across eight tracks and around thirty minutes, the album delivers precise, radiant grooves that stay true to the band's foundations while adding fresh colors: disco inflections on "Exotic," a blues and soul touch on "SKOM," a near-rock progression on "Autobahn," and more contemplative moods on "Ventura" and "Anaheim," the latter closing the record with radiant softness. The crisp, carefully crafted production highlights the musicians' understated virtuosity and their subtle balance between rhythmic precision and creative freedom. Neither a repetition nor a rupture, this fifth chapter asserts the Flyers' maturity and their ability to expand their universe without losing their identity, resulting in a short yet intense record that will appeal both to funk purists and lovers of instrumental adventures.

Look What I Became is a project by Conway the Machine, released on September 13, 2019, through Griselda Records and Empire Distribution. It arrived at a crucial point in Conway’s career, bridging the gap between his early underground work and his later, more polished major-label albums. The title Look What I Became reflects a sense of transformation and self-recognition — Conway presenting himself as an artist who has risen from the gritty streets of Buffalo to become a respected voice in hardcore hip-hop.

Musically, the release stays true to the Griselda sound: raw, sample-heavy, and steeped in the cold, minimal aesthetic of classic East Coast boom-bap. The production is dark and stripped-down, full of murky drums and eerie loops, providing a perfect canvas for Conway’s gravelly delivery and vivid street storytelling. Lyrically, the project blends introspection and braggadocio, shifting between personal reflection and ruthless self-assertion. Tracks like “No Women No Kids” and “Tito’s Back” (featuring Westside Gunn and Benny the Butcher) showcase his lyrical sharpness and chemistry with his Griselda labelmates, while “Vino D” expands the scope by featuring Jim Jones, Dave East, and El Camino, linking Buffalo’s underground with New York’s established rap scene.

The album received generally positive reviews, with critics praising its production consistency and Conway’s commanding presence. Outlets like Underground Hip Hop Blog highlighted it as an unapologetically street-level record — hard, focused, and true to the Griselda ethos. Some listeners found it less cohesive than his later work, describing it as a strong but transitional effort, more a showcase of raw talent than a fully conceptual project. Despite that, Look What I Became is widely seen as an essential chapter in Conway’s evolution, showing him refining his craft and expanding his circle while staying rooted in the unfiltered realism that defines his music.

Ultimately, Look What I Became stands as a snapshot of a pivotal moment — Conway asserting his identity, honing his sound, and solidifying his place as one of the most authentic voices in modern East Coast hip-hop.

Japan Meets Latin, Rock, Rare Groove & Funky Vibes (Selected by DJ Yoshizawa Dynamite), limited to 200 copies!

Active as a professional DJ in Japan since the late eighties, DJ Yoshizawa Dynamite is also a renowned remixer, compiler and producer. An avid record collector and an expert of Wamono music, Yoshizawa has published in 2015 the now-classic Wamono A to Z records guide book, which instantly sold-out. The book unveiled a myriad of beautiful and rare records from a highly prolific, but still then unknown, Japanese groove scene. He has also selected a large part of the music in our highly acclaimed Wamono compilations.

For this brand new chapter in the series, Yoshizawa explores King Records' legendary catalog and unearths exceptional, rare and unknown musical gems. King Records has been releasing music since 1931 and is one of the most prestigious labels in Japan. Traditional Japanese music, known as "Minyo", are ancient songs once sung by fishermen, coal miners and sumo wrestlers. They are reimagined here with vibrant afro latin, rock, rare groove and funky arrangements in this killer selection of music released on King between 1963 and 1979. Also worth mentioning is the track Ohara Bushi by The Peanuts, which was released only on tape in 1970 and is now available for the first time ever on vinyl format.

Put the needle on the record, turn up the volume and dig right now into the Wamono sound - the cream of the Japanese funk, soul, rare groove and disco music developed throughout the years since the end of the fifties in Japan!

HHV exclusive vinyl edition limited to 100 copies. Back in 1996 "Killa Instinct" was set to be a smash, Raw Breed had all the boroughs of New York on lock. "Killa Instinct" had the makings of a classic, with features from @icet, @shafiqhusayn, @guru.jazzmatazz, @real_godfather_don & @agallahthedon and production handled by the legendary @tr_ultralife, @shafiqhusayn, @real_godfather_don, @ommaskeith and Ariel Caban.

But right before the album was about to come out, Warner called the crew into the office and said they had good and bad news: Raw Breed could take the album to another label, or be given a budget to record a new one – either way they couldn’t put this album out. Warner was giving out nice budgets at the time, so Raw Breed recorded "Blood, Sweat & Tears" instead leaving "Killa Instinct" in the vaults for the time being.

Back in 2017 the album was finally released by our friends @dustanddoperecordings and @back2dasourcerecords in limited fashion. A lot of people missed out back then so we are proud to announce a limited reissue on vinyl and CD. Shoutout to @daclassicrawbreed and @marclivegiveand for making this happen.

HHV exclusive vinyl edition limited to 100 copies. A.D.O.R. first came onto the scene in 1992 with "Let It All Hang Out" produced by his old friend and fellow Money Earnin Mount Vernon resident Pete Rock, who by 1992 was already an acclaimed producer and cited as one of the best in the biz. It was an instant classic and a hit in the summer of 1992, was driven by Pete Rock's irresistible horn loop and the tight flow of A.D.O.R.'s rhymes. A.D.O.R. toured with major acts and made television appearances building on the buzz created by "Let It All Hang Out". In 1994 he followed up with a second single, "One for the Trouble", produced by K-Def and the legendary Queensbridge producer Marley Marl. "One for the Trouble" signaled that plans were underway for a debut album on Atlantic titled The Concrete. Despite his successful run at the major label, A.D.O.R. was let go from his contract with Atlantic in 1995 without The Concrete being released, reportedly because of disputes over creative decisions, even though promotional items were released and the catalogue number 82443 was assigned to the release. As most of you know, we sadly lost @truador on January 1st of this year. We kept in touch throughout the years and he often sent me videos of newly released music that sampled his voice or newly recorded tracks. After Eddy's passing we got in touch with the new head of Tru Reign Records, his son @_eddycastellanoss_ who's committed to keep the legacy of his father alive. As "The Concrete" remained one of the most requested releases we felt it was only right to honor A.D.O.R's classic with a beautiful reissue.

There will be a double vinyl gatefold edition available in 3 versions, with extensive credits and printed inner sleeves. A CD version and a tape version will be available as well in very limited quantities.

HHV exclusive vinyl edition limited to 100 copies. Neek The Exotic grew up with Large Professor & started rhyming at a young age with childhood friends such as Nas, Royal Flush and Mr. Cheeks of The Lost Boyz. When Large Professor’s group Main Source were involved in the soundtrack for White Men Can’t Jump, Neek joined them and appeared on the classic song “Fakin’ The Funk” (but he was incarcerated when it came out).

His first solo album, named after his classic "Exotic's Raw" didn't drop until 2003. With Large Professor producing more than half of the tracks, and several features from Royal Flush it became an underground banger. Now in 2025 HHE is proud to announce a limited double vinyl reissue of that classic album. We secured the DAT tapes and reels some years ago from Neek and now it's finally time to bring this superb project back to life. As a bonus you will get 2 previously unreleased tracks and 2 bonus instrumentals.

Lady Wray makes her highly anticipated return with Cover Girl, her third album on Big Crown Records. The album opener “My Best Step” says it all, “my next step is my best step”, and indeed she is taking her artistry to a new high and making the best music of her life. The celebratory Cover Girl takes listeners on a free-spirited joyride glittered with ‘60s and '70s-inspired soul and disco, ‘90s hip-hop and R&B, and perhaps the most defining element, gospel. Following the healing journey that was 2022’s Piece of Me, Nicole has performed on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, NPR’s Tiny Desk, and toured the world. After this period of growth, Lady Wray is now ready to let her hair down and embrace all of what life has to offer. Reunited with producer Leon Michels (Norah Jones / Clairo / El Michels Affair) for the record, the outcome is effortless and undeniable, a reflection of their longtime collaboration that extends over a decade.

Leon Michels has quietly become one of the most sought-after producers in music. His signature sound has caught the attention of the mainstream while continuing to inspire the underground. Since 2023’s El Michels Affair & Black Thought album Glorious Game, Michels has been busy producing records for other artists; Norah Jones’ Grammy winning Visions, Clairo’s Grammy nominated Charm, Kali Uchis’ “Moonlight”, as well as albums for labelmates Brainstory, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek, Thee Heart Tones, and Liam Bailey. His new album 24 Hr Sports marks the highly anticipated return to recording under his own moniker, El Michels Affair

24 Hr Sports was inspired by the fashion and graphic design of ‘80s & ‘90s Sports Illustrated magazines, MF DOOM’s Special Herbs albums, the sample sources used on them, and gospel music a la Pastor T.L. Barrett. The sum of those influences with Michels’ impeccable creative touch prove to be the recipe for an instant classic that will surely be one of the most heralded releases of 2025. The album opener “Drum Line” is an anthemic, uplifting tune with marching band drumming and thundering brass arrangements that command undivided attention and set the tone for what’s to come. 24 Hr Sports sees a significant departure from the largely instrumental music of the El Michels Affair catalog with a roster of vocal features that manages to mirror the undefinable genre of his music. The first one on the album is “Mágica” which features Brazil’s Rogê. He takes the already pumping energy of the track over the top with his fútbol inspired lyrics. Moving from Brazil to Ghana, “Say Goodbye” features Florence Adooni who touts her individuality with an effortless swag jumping between Frafra and English, telling it like it is in the earworm chorus, “never gonna find a girl like me…”. Labelmate and world renowned trumpeter from The Roots, Dave Guy joins the ‘70s groove of “Oakley’s Car Wash” with his distinct horn lines before the track switches lanes, closing with a dubby outro. From raucous to serene, “Anticipate” featuring Clairo picks up on the musical synergy between her and Leon that created 2024’s Charm album. Clairo rides signature EMA arrangements perfectly as she pines for an unattainable love over the band’s airtight instrumentation. “Eastside” is a song that could soundtrack a sunrise over the ocean, putting Leon’s tasteful use of space and arrangement on a pedestal. By way of Japan, The Suginami Children’s Choir join in on the lush “Clean The Line” singing a song about the moon, the sun, and birds. Next, “Cortex” kicks in the door with gritty distorted guitars and thundering drums that puts a moment of pure cinematic intensity in the middle of the album. Leon himself handles lead vocals on “Shining,” a song about looking for a friend to share the joys of a sunny day with. The universally adored Shintaro Sakamoto is featured on “Indifference”, a swanky tune built on bouncing basslines and flute chops. Shintaro uses the arrangements to go from singing to speaking, musing over a fleeting love. The Grammy winning duo of Norah Jones and Michels reunite on “Carry Me Away” with Jones' honeyed vocals soaring over a track that is hard to place but easy to love. Leon leans into El Michels Affair territory on the tune that sounds decidedly different from the Norah Jones records he has produced. “Take My Hand” puts gospel influence front and center with the Fabulous Rainbow Singers choir on the chorus and a saxophone solo from the late great Rahsaan Roland Kirk. “Open Season”, a mid tempo, piano driven number with group vocals chanting “we want the gold, we want the gold…” could soundtrack a slow motion highlight reel, while the aptly titled album closer “Victory Lap” is a dreamy euphoric wind-down worthy of the record that just finished. When all is said and done, the trophy on the cover of the album speaks volumes. El Michels Affair is champion sound and 24 Hr Sports hammers that home.

Enjoy The Ride Records and Enjoy The Toons Records, in partnership with WaterTower Music, proudly present the limited edition vinyl release of A Minecraft Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring an electrifying lineup of original songs and a dynamic score by Grammy- and Emmy-winning composer Mark Mothersbaugh.

Leading the soundtrack is the high-energy anthem “I Feel Alive,” written and produced by Jack Black, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt. Jack Black delivers powerhouse lead vocals with Danielle Brooks backing him up, with Mark Ronson on Bass, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl on drums, Queen of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar and Roger Manning on synthesizer. The song made its debut on March 19, when Black premiered it live on Twitch, filming an impromptu music video in front of an audience of over 250,000 fans.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Black shared, “It was a thrill to collaborate with legendary songwriters Ronson and Wyatt on the final song!”

Ronson and Wyatt also praised Black’s artistry, stating: “Jack Black possesses one of the greatest voices in all of modern recorded music. From Tenacious D’s debut album to his matchless interpretation of ‘Hanukkah O Hanukkah,’ his voice electrifies the soul and the eardrums. When he first approached us at the Golden Globes in 2023, he told Andrew and I that he had been singing our song ‘I’m Just Ken’ in his head all day—the greatest compliment we could have received. Andrew and I had an incredible experience writing this song with him, and it's one we could have only created with this extraordinary man for this wonderful film. We hope you rock the f**k out to it.”

Beyond “I Feel Alive,” Black contributes to three additional songs that capture key comedic moments in the film. “We had a blast peppering the movie with little musical nuggets throughout our journey,” he explained. “Me and Jared (Hess) went back and forth about song ideas in the weeks prior to shooting, and I’d send him little voice memos. We’d laugh our butts off and shape them to fit perfectly in the film.”

The soundtrack also features: Benee performing “Zero to Hero,” written by Bret McKenzie. A longtime fan of both Minecraft and Black, Benee expressed her excitement: “I’m so excited to be involved in this project. I’ve been a Minecrafter for years, as well as a huge fan of Jack Black. Working with Bret McKenzie has been amazing. He is a musical genius. We met a couple of years ago in New Zealand, and it’s been awesome to finally collaborate with him. I can’t wait to see the final version of the movie!”

Multi-platinum artist Dayglow, a dedicated Minecraft fan, contributes the indie-pop track “Change Song.” He shared, “Ever since I was 10, I’ve loved Minecraft. It’s one of the most creativity-inspiring games ever, so to be a part of its legacy is so awesome. I’m so honored! I hope to inspire people to keep having fun and use their imagination.”

Rock band Dirty Honey’s song “When I’m Gone” embodies Jason Momoa’s character, Garett “The Garbage Man” Garrison. Lead singer Marc LaBelle, who has some history with Black working on the show “Drunk History,” remarked: “To find out that our music would be featured in A Minecraft Movie —alongside two of Hollywood’s biggest rock ‘n’ roll ambassadors, Jack Black and Jason Momoa—is not only an exciting opportunity to introduce Dirty Honey to a whole new generation of fans, but also a full-circle moment for me and my time here in L.A.”

Rounding out the soundtrack is a score by the legendary Mark Mothersbaugh, who seamlessly blends original compositions with tasteful nods to the iconic music featured in Minecraft the game by C418. Mothersbaugh explained: “A Minecraft Movie presented a unique challenge in creating a score that balanced quirky characters with the intense action sequences. The music needed to capture the charm of the characters while also driving the high-energy moments. This required a thoughtful approach to ensure the score not only complemented the film’s action but also added depth and emotional resonance, making it a vital part of the story.”

A Minecraft Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is pressed on 2xLP limited edition purple colored vinyl. Housed in a gatefold jacket, it also includes 12" x 12" double-sided full-color insert featuring art from the film.

On the opening track of Unlearning Vol. 2, his fifth solo album, Evidence starts by breaking patterns. "Set the autopilot, cruising speed," he says_a line that evokes his signature laid-back flow. But instead of coasting, the Venice native chooses disruption. "That's a setup for a punch to land with `true indeed,'" he continues, setting the tone for an album that's less about comfort and more about transformation. The track's title, "Plans Change," couldn't be more fitting. Since his emergence with Dilated Peoples, Evidence has always exuded a cool, effortless control. But Unlearning Vol. 2, like its 2021 predecessor, rejects any slide into legacy status. It's not just a stylistic pivot_it's a deeper, more introspective journey, one rooted in technical mastery but driven by instinct and curiosity. Instead of recycling past glories, Evidence explores rawer emotional terrain, crafting a sound that's both grounded and experimental. The production casts a hypnotic spell with tracks like Sebb Bash's harrowing "Seeing Double," C-Lance's nostalgic "Top Seeded," and Evidence's own eerie "Greatest Motivation." Yet his voice remains the anchor, cutting through the haze with precision and depth. Tracks like "Nothing's Perfect" show his lyrical agility, while "Laughing Last" blends stoicism and vulnerability in reflections on family and loss. Collaborators span eras_The Alchemist, DJ Babu, Blu, Domo Genesis, Larry June, Conductor Williams and more_yet the project stays unified by a core ethos: to reinvent, to recontextualize, and to turn pain into purpose through creativity.

On their last trip to Silberland, Bureau B hurtled along the chrome highways and glass skyways of the kosmische landscape, powered ever onwards in perpetual motorik motion. This time, however, the Hamburg imprint opt for an unhurried itinerary, coasting far beyond the familiar rhythmic terrain to explore crystal caverns and emerald pastures, immersing listeners in the ambient side of this alternative Allemagne. Building on the tape loops, tone poems, and minimalist compositions of the 60"s avant-garde, these musicians utilised the sweeping scope of the synthesiser to create expansive meditations on outer-planetary escapism, human connection, and the natural world. This compilation offers a survey of this singular era, blending pioneering voices with lesser-known artists for an immersive sonic experience.

Rasco’s Time Waits for No Man stands as a cornerstone of West Coast underground hiphop, blending unflinching lyricism with toptier production and a reverence for the culture. Originally released in 1998, the album marked the first full-length hip-hop project from the iconic Stones Throw Records, cementing their legacy as a launching pad for independent artists. The album showcases Rasco’s no-nonsense approach, focusing heavily on his prowess as an emcee and his commitment to preserving hip-hop’s authenticity. With a commanding voice and sharp, no-frills lyricism, Rasco delivers on every track, ensuring his presence is felt throughout. Guest appearances from underground heavyweights like Dilated Peoples, Defari, Encore, and Planet Asia, along with contributions from turntablists Vin Roc, DJ Revolution, DJ Babu, and D-Styles. Meanwhile, an all-star production roster featuring Peanut Butter Wolf, Paul Nice, Kut Masta Kurt, and Fanatik provides a sonic foundation that perfectly complements
Rasco’s rugged delivery. Highlights include the Fanatik-produced single “The Unassisted,” a stripped-down anthem that epitomizes late ‘90s indie hip-hop. Other standout tracks include “What It’s All About,” Peanut Butter Wolf’s “Hip Hop Essentials,” and the collaborative gems “Major League” and “Take It Back Home.” This long-awaited reissue by Coalmine Records breathes new life into Time Waits for No Man, making it available for the first time since 2004. A must-listen for fans of classic hip-hop, this album remains a timeless testament to Rasco’s artistry and the enduring appeal of underground hip-hop.

With Mom & Dad, veteran wordsmith Apathy delivers his most personal and conceptually rich project to date—an album steeped in nostalgia, anchored in sharp cultural critique, and draped in the breezy textures of his new “Shore Life” sound. The title nods to Ronald and Nancy Reagan, casting Apathy as a child of the '80s raised under the shadow of Reaganomics. But this isn't just a trip down memory lane—it's a reflective deep dive into the socio-political climate that shaped his youth, told with the masterful penmanship fans have come to expect from the CT legend.

The first release from his newly launched imprint, Anchors Up Rec, Mom & Dad showcases Apathy’s evolution as both emcee and producer. He helms the boards for 9 of the 12 tracks, crafting lush, sample-heavy beats that blend laid-back vibes with surgical precision. Additional production comes from rising star Playa Haze and longtime collaborator Little Vic.

Standout tracks include the haunting “Lee Harv” (feat. Little Vic), the soul-drenched “All Good,” and the sharp, shoreline serenade “WHALERS.” Guest spots from Suave-Ski, Slaine, Ryu, and Little Vic round out an album that’s both personal memoir and lyrical masterclass. Mom & Dad is an essential listen from one of underground hip-hop’s most consistent voices.

The obituary of Apollo Brown and Bronze Nazareth writes itself. This is a bond, a brotherhood, a friendship carved over nearly four decades. Two kids from the same neighborhood, raised by the same blocks, breathing the same grit. In their teens, they began the journey side by side. Beats, rhymes, the need to speak something real.

Life moved. Time pulled. They built their names in separate spaces, each finding success in places they hadn’t pictured. Inside the music. Outside the music. But the thread stayed strong. And now, after years of chapters, of wins and losses and long silences, the dream they both held finally lives. And because it lives, it can be buried.

For years, people asked for this. Waited on it. Needed it. Here it is.

A FUNERAL FOR A DREAM.

Limited to 100 copies. Peki Momés is a Turkish artist living in Germany - who only started to record music by accident in 2024. Blessed with style and intuition rather than formal education, her fresh and uncompromisingly authentic approach to music took hearts and ears by storm. Ever since her debut 45 on Mocambo Records, Peki Momés has become a little sensation in and outside the organic groove scene: turntablist DJ Koco played doubles of „Göc Mevsimi“ in his set, Iggy Pop announced „Rüya“ on his „Iggy Confidential“ show on BBC and the second vinyl single surprised everyone with a mesmerizing cover of Marco Valle's much loved „Estrelar“ in theturkish language. Both records sold out quickly and are in the bags of tastemakers like Coco
Maria. Peki Momés' music is an eclectic mix of sounds from the global underground, tastefully crafted by producer Dustin Braun and a troupe of ridiculously talented jazz musicians. Dirty disco, fuzzy
funk, anatolian rare grooves, experimental synth, library music and japanese city pop all blend naturally with her distinct vocals to create a unique ethereal outernational sound that is all her own. Once dubbed as 'turkish discodelic', Peki's songs have a dreamlike, enchanted and psychedelic quality and instantly take the listener on a journey. In a poetic way, she approaches topics like „dreams and a naive fear of losing or not fulfilling them“ or expresses „worries about our weary world and call for solidarity from all“ - always with an outlook of hope. You do not have to speakturkish to understand - the message is transported by a universal language. With her debut album, Peki Momés is now telling her full story. Displaying a young Peki on the pover, the artwork hints at the freshness and enthusiasm of the project. We should consider
ourselves lucky that Peki chose to disrespect rules in favor of self-empowerment and made this wonderful longplayer that you never knew you needed.
Peki Momés started touring with a full band in support of the album and this is only the beginning of something magic you're about to witness.

Return Of The Funky Man is the second album by New York legend Lord Finesse. Originally released in 1992, this album was highly anticipated after his debut on the scene just a few years prior. Having already established himself as a punch-line king capable of humorous storytelling, Return of the Funky Man cemented Finesse as a top-notch producer. Tracks such as “Fat for the 90s” and “I Like My Girls With A Boom” showed the Funky Man truly living up to his name, both on the mic and behind the boards.

After the gruff-voiced “Lord Finesse Intro”, the album goes on a nonstop journey of witty wordplay over genre-defining boom bap beats. Along for this ride, Finesse brings D.I.T.C. brethren Showbiz and Diamond D on the production side (plus Aladdin & SLJ) while AG and (at the time) newcomer Percee P share mic duties. Topically, Finesse doesn’t stray too far from reminding us why he’s earned the title The Funky Man. Whether it's bragging and boasting, or breaking down females, he has a way of doing it with a tongue-in-cheek type way that is sure to have you letting out a laugh or two every couple of lines. He possesses that rare quality of being a solo MC that is capable of entertaining throughout the entire hour plus listening experience. Standout tracks such as “Yes You May”, “Stop Sweating the Next Man”, and “Party Over Here” all show why this album was instantly praised by fans and critics alike.

Since its release in early 2002, the album has garnered a devoted following, becoming a highly coveted gem for collectors and hip-hop aficionados alike. This record is not just a piece of music but a deep narrative, reflecting Grimm’s journey through hardship, triumph, and the struggles of life in the streets. Considered by connoisseurs of the late DOOM’s discography as a parallel to Operation: Doomsday, The Downfall of Ibliys shares much of its sonic palette, led by DOOM’s signature production that creates a dark, atmospheric backdrop to Grimm’s introspective rhymes. Alongside DOOM, Count Bass D and Dr. Butcher contribute to the production, which adds to the album’s overall sonic landscape. The album also features notable guest appearances from MF DOOM, Count Bass D, and Megalon (of Monsta Island Czars), enhancing its status as an essential listening experience for any DOOM fan.

Key tracks such as “Alpha,” “Life and Death,” “Foolish,” and the two-part “Voices” demonstrate Grimm’s ability to blend gritty, street-level storytelling with moments of introspection and
vulnerability. Particularly standout is “Voices Pt. 1,” where DOOM’s feature adds an extra layer of intrigue and depth, solidifying the track’s place as one of the album’s defining moments. This long-awaited vinyl reissue of The Downfall of Ibliys: A Ghetto Opera by MF Grimm, now available through Coalmine Reissues, gives both longtime fans and newcomers the chance to experience this underground masterpiece on wax. And for those who missed it the first time, this release offers a unique opportunity to feel its full impact in a format that's truly meant to be heard.

Originally released in 1976 on Edizioni Leonardi’s Lupus Records label, “Jazz in Libertà” is a rare LP of Italian library music, finally reissued for the very first time courtesy of Redi Edizioni in a faithful reproduction of the original artwork. “Jazz in Libertà” is an impressive collection of tracks recorded by an atypical jazz quartet, consisting of bass, drums and two keyboards, which often duet in interesting musical back-and-forths, with the exception of the title-track where an electric guitar appears, reminiscent of the early 60s George Benson. The best moments, as is often the case in library music, come from the jazz-funk cuts, perfectly suited for police-movie scenarios, but the whole album is however of high quality; why it has never been reissued is a mystery to this day - just as the musicians involved in the recordings still remain unknown.

All the tracks on “Discorsi” follow similar patterns, those of a jazz-funk contaminated by interplays of flute, keyboards, electronics and orchestral arrangements reminiscent of blaxploitation, as in the final “Limoni Verdi!” An excellent LP that, in spite of the quality and relevance of its tracks, had never been reissued, and is now officially available again for fans of library music and of the groovy sound of the 1970s!

“American Bus” is a blues-tinged instrumental funk-rock record that, as the title itself and the cover - with a photo taken from inside a bus crossing San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge - suggest, approaches the sound of late 1970s American rock. There are a number of songs in which the saxophone emphasises the funky side of this work, while the reggae episode of “Lombard Street”, the only track that differs stylistically from the rest of the record, sounds really intriguing.

“Telemusica” was originally conceived as a series of collections of tracks by various composers, with each chapter focusing on a specific musical genre: in this case the key words are ‘jazz’ and ‘experimentation’: In the tracks of “Telemusica N. 6” we wander from easy-listening to jazz-funk with tension and thriller-like tones, through the peculiar electronic frequencies of “Valzer Grottesco” to the avant-garde sound of the three ending pieces, that seem to be inspired by the famous Gruppo di Improvvisazione “Nuova Consonanza” that saw the participation, among others, of Maestro Ennio Morricone too.

Released on June 7, 1994, Regulate... G Funk Era marked the debut of Warren G, a rapper and producer from Long Beach, California. As a pivotal album in the development of the G-Funk sound, it captured the essence of 1990s West Coast hip-hop with its smooth grooves, Parliament-Funkadelic samples, and relaxed, conversational flow. Best known for its iconic lead single “Regulate” featuring Nate Dogg, the album carved out a distinct niche between gangsta rap and radio-friendly funk, establishing Warren G as both a streetwise narrator and a chill ambassador of the California lifestyle
By the early 1990s, West Coast hip-hop was dominating the charts. Dr. Dre’s The Chronic (1992) had redefined the sonic palette of rap, blending laid-back funk instrumentation with gangsta-themed storytelling. This new subgenre, G-Funk, relied heavily on synthesizer leads, thick basslines, and samples from 1970s funk records.

Warren G was uniquely positioned in this movement. As the stepbrother of Dr. Dre and a founding member of the group 213 (with Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg), he was deeply entrenched in the Long Beach hip-hop scene. However, Warren’s style diverged from the harder edges of gangsta rap. His music emphasized coolness over aggression, storytelling over bravado, and melody over menace. The lyrical themes on Regulate... G Funk Era revolve around life in Southern California, including cruising, parties, the streets, loyalty, and resilience. But unlike many contemporaries, Warren G approaches these topics with a tone that is conversational, observational, and introspective rather than confrontational. The title track “Regulate”, built on a sample from Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgettin’,” tells a cinematic story of a nighttime encounter turned rescue mission. Nate Dogg’s smooth crooning contrasts beautifully with Warren’s cool-headed narrative flow. “Do You See” explores Warren’s perspective on community and perseverance, delivered with quiet confidence rather than boastfulness. Tracks like “This D.J.” (another hit single) emphasize Warren’s dual identity as rapper and beatmaker, paying homage to the culture of DJing while also enjoying his own success. Throughout the album, Warren G balances street credibility with a sense of everyday realism, often addressing adversity not with rage but with steady-minded clarity.

The production of Regulate... G Funk Era exemplifies the hallmarks of G-Funk: slow, rolling beats, melodic synthesizer leads, funk basslines, and prominent use of classic 1970s soul and funk samples. Warren G produced most of the album himself, showing off his ear for groove and mood rather than bombast. Heavy sampling from Funkadelic, Zapp, and Donny Hathaway.

The album was both a commercial triumph and a cultural milestone: Regulate... G Funk Era peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. It was certified triple platinum in the U.S., selling over 3 million copies. The single “Regulate” became one of the most iconic rap songs of the decade, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Critics praised Warren G for creating a cohesive, easygoing album that stood apart from the aggression and tension found in other rap records of the time. While some noted a lack of lyrical complexity, most agreed that his honesty and distinctive style made the album both refreshing and significant.

Regulate... G Funk Era solidified Warren G’s status as a key architect of the G-Funk movement. His ability to blend gangsta themes with soulful musicality opened new doors for hip-hop, paving the way for future artists who valued vibe, melody, and relatability. It also introduced the world to Nate Dogg, whose deep, melodic voice became a staple in West Coast rap and changed how hooks were delivered in hip-hop. The chemistry between Warren G and Nate Dogg on “Regulate” became legendary, setting the standard for rap-sung collaborations for years to come. Furthermore, the album remains a time capsule of 1990s California, encapsulating the sun-soaked streets, lowrider culture, and the everyday lives of people who lived between glamorized violence and genuine community.

Regulate... G Funk Era is not only a landmark debut—it’s a defining moment for an entire genre. With its smooth beats, laid-back attitude, and vivid storytelling, Warren G crafted an album that celebrated the West Coast lifestyle while offering a softer, more introspective take on the realities of urban life. In doing so, he helped shape the future of hip-hop, proving that you didn’t have to shout to be heard. The album remains a testament to balance: between street and soul, narrative and groove, hardness and harmony.

Released on June 28, 1988, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back by Public Enemy was more than just a hip-hop album—it was a revolutionary manifesto. Crafted at the height of America’s political and racial tensions in the 1980s, the album represented a seismic moment in music history. Combining aggressive beats, densely layered samples, and politically charged lyrics, Public Enemy redefined the possibilities of hip-hop as both an art form and a tool for resistance. This album did not merely speak to its era—it shattered boundaries and set the stage for the genre’s evolution into a platform for social critique.

Public Enemy, founded by Chuck D and Flavor Flav, emerged from Long Island, New York, as part of the burgeoning Def Jam roster. While many hip-hop acts focused on party themes and street narratives, Public Enemy brought militant consciousness and scholarly depth to their music. Their 1987 debut, Yo! Bum Rush the Show, laid the groundwork, but it was with their sophomore effort, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, that their message and sound truly coalesced.

The late 1980s in America were defined by crack epidemics, rising incarceration rates, and growing racial divisions. Against this backdrop, Public Enemy’s radical voice resonated as a necessary confrontation with systemic oppression, police brutality, and media bias.

The album’s revolutionary message is amplified by its groundbreaking sound, engineered by the production team The Bomb Squad. Rather than relying on simple loops or sparse arrangements, they crafted a dense, chaotic, layered wall of sound. Utilizing dozens of samples per track—ranging from James Brown to Malcolm X speeches—the Bomb Squad created a musical collage that was as aggressive and complex as the album’s themes.

The production’s intensity was radical for the time. The noise, distortion, and overlapping samples made the listening experience almost overwhelming—mirroring the social and political upheaval Public Enemy sought to capture.

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back was a cultural earthquake. It debuted at #42 on the Billboard 200, but its influence far exceeded chart rankings. It brought politics to the forefront of hip-hop in an uncompromising way and made it clear that the genre could be a tool of resistance and enlightenment.

The album inspired countless artists—from Ice Cube and Tupac Shakur to Rage Against the Machine and Kendrick Lamar—to use their platforms for social critique. Academics and activists praised the album for its educational value, and it became a staple in discussions of race, media, and American culture.

It was also a turning point for hip-hop journalism, as critics began to take the genre seriously as an art form with cultural weight. Public Enemy proved that rap could rival punk rock and folk in terms of political urgency.

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back is more than a collection of songs—it is a sonic battle cry against oppression. Public Enemy transformed hip-hop into a vehicle for truth-telling, challenging its listeners to think critically and act defiantly. With Chuck D’s commanding presence, Flavor Flav’s anarchic energy, and the Bomb Squad’s explosive production, the album broke molds and built new foundations. Over three decades later, its messages remain urgent, its sounds still jarring, and its impact undeniable.

Released on November 19, 1996, Ill Na Na marked the audacious debut of Foxy Brown, a then-17-year-old rapper from Brooklyn who would become one of the most influential female voices in hip-hop. With a blend of raw lyricism, seductive bravado, and high-profile collaborations, the album captured the energy of the mid-1990s hip-hop scene while challenging perceptions of gender and power in the industry. Ill Na Na not only launched Foxy Brown's career but also helped redefine the space for women in rap.

Ill Na Na is steeped in themes of sexuality, luxury, confidence, and power. Foxy Brown asserts control over her image and body, using her lyrics to command respect, desire, and dominance. Tracks like “Get Me Home” (featuring Blackstreet) blend sensuality with bravado, while “I’ll Be” (featuring Jay-Z) showcases flirtatious chemistry layered with sharp wordplay.

On songs such as “Fox Boogie” and “Ain’t No Nigga” (Jay-Z's track featuring Foxy that helped raise her profile), she delivers braggadocio lines with the same bravura as her male counterparts. Her rhymes are layered with references to designer brands, sexual autonomy, and street credibility—creating a persona that is both glamorous and gritty.

Foxy Brown, born Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand, made a name for herself through standout guest verses on tracks by LL Cool J, Jay-Z, and Nas. Her fierce delivery and street-smart charisma quickly set her apart. Signed to Def Jam, she recorded Ill Na Na under the guidance of executive producer Trackmasters (Poke & Tone), capitalizing on the success of female-led rap in the wake of artists like Lil’ Kim and Queen Latifah.

The timing was significant: the mid-‘90s hip-hop scene was booming with commercial success, and women were starting to claim more visibility. Foxy Brown's emergence was both strategic and cultural—she was young, stylish, aggressive, and unapologetically sexual, flipping the traditionally male-dominated narrative in hip-hop.

The production on Ill Na Na reflects the polished, radio-friendly sound of late '90s East Coast hip-hop. Spearheaded by the Trackmasters, the album features lush samples, R&B-influenced beats, and smooth instrumentation that complement Foxy's laid-back but assertive flow.

The album blends hardcore rap elements with crossover appeal. R&B hooks, such as those by Blackstreet and Total, help bridge the gap between club bangers and radio hits. This duality made the album accessible to both hip-hop purists and mainstream audiences.

Ill Na Na benefits from a roster of high-profile collaborations that boost its credibility and appeal. Appearances from Jay-Z, Blackstreet, Method Man, Kid Capri, and Total add diversity and star power. These collaborations were more than just features—they were statements of endorsement from established male rappers in an era when co-signs were vital.

Moreover, her association with the supergroup The Firm (with Nas, AZ, and Nature) and her later affiliation with Def Jam’s elite positioned her as not just a rising star but a central figure in a broader movement of East Coast hip-hop excellence.

Upon release, Ill Na Na debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum within three months—an extraordinary feat for a teenage female rapper. Critics praised her commanding presence, lyrical sharpness, and confident sexuality. While some accused the album of being over-polished or too reliant on guest features, most acknowledged it as a strong debut that helped shape the trajectory of female rap.

Its success opened doors for other women to blend femininity with street-savvy appeal, contributing to a broader redefinition of gender roles in the genre.

Ill Na Na is a landmark moment in hip-hop history. It was one of the first albums to present a young woman in complete control of her artistic and sexual identity without apology. Foxy Brown’s debut helped establish a new archetype for female rappers—luxurious, dangerous, and lyrically potent.

While comparisons to Lil' Kim were inevitable, Foxy carved her own lane. Her influence can be seen in the rise of artists like Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B, all of whom channel elements of her style—confidence, fashion-forward persona, and lyrical grit.

Ill Na Na is more than a debut album—it is a declaration of independence, power, and artistry. Foxy Brown’s fierce lyricism and magnetic presence helped challenge the hip-hop landscape, expanding the possibilities for women in the genre. With its rich production, chart-topping singles, and unapologetic perspective, the album remains a cornerstone of 1990s rap and a bold blueprint for the future of female emcees.

In 1997, after a five-year hiatus and a highly publicized breakup, the iconic Long Island hip-hop duo EPMD (Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith) reunited to release Back in Business. As one of the most respected groups in golden age hip-hop, EPMD’s return was both nostalgic and forward-looking—a reaffirmation of their legacy and a reinvention for a new era. With its classic funk samples, no-nonsense lyrical delivery, and cohesive production, Back in Business served as a statement that EPMD was still a force to be reckoned with in a rapidly evolving rap landscape.

Background and Significance of the Reunion
EPMD (Erick and Parrish Making Dollars) debuted in 1988 with the influential album Strictly Business, known for its sample-heavy, funk-laced beats and laid-back flows. Over the next few years, they helped shape the East Coast sound with albums like Unfinished Business and Business Never Personal. However, internal conflicts—exacerbated by alleged financial disputes and even a home invasion incident—led to their breakup in 1992.

The rap world changed dramatically during their absence. By the mid-1990s, the East Coast had undergone a revival with Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and The Notorious B.I.G., while the West Coast had reached mainstream dominance. Against this backdrop, Back in Business was a significant return—not just for EPMD, but for fans of foundational boom-bap hip-hop who welcomed the return of one of the genre’s pioneering duos.

Themes and Lyrical Approach
EPMD’s lyrical style had always favored cool confidence over aggression, and Back in Business stayed true to this formula. Erick and Parrish didn’t attempt to chase trends—they stuck to what they knew: braggadocio, industry commentary, and funk-laced party anthems.

In tracks like “Richter Scale”, they reassert their status with lines that celebrate lyrical skill and authenticity.

“Da Joint”, the album’s lead single, became a moderate hit thanks to its infectious hook and hard-hitting beat, proving that their chemistry hadn’t faded.

Songs like “Last Man Standing” and “You Gots 2 Chill ’97” nod to their past glories while subtly modernizing their approach.

Rather than preaching or provoking, EPMD’s tone is one of self-assured mastery—they know they’ve influenced the game and are here to reclaim their space without having to shout about it.

Production and Sound
One of EPMD’s trademarks was their sample-driven production, particularly their reliance on funk, soul, and rock samples—drawing heavily from artists like Zapp, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Roger Troutman. On Back in Business, this aesthetic remains intact but gets a subtle update to match the polished sound of the late ’90s.

The production, largely handled by Erick Sermon, is clean, bass-heavy, and groove-centric. While not as densely layered as earlier work, the beats still slap—especially on tracks like:

“Never Seen Before” – minimalist, punchy, and hypnotic.

“K.I.M. (Keep It Movin’)” – with its laid-back, head-nodding vibe.

“Do It Again” – which rides a classic sample with effortless swagger.

Compared to the maximalist sound of contemporaries like Wu-Tang or the polished flashiness of Bad Boy Records, EPMD’s approach felt stripped-down and intentional—a reminder of rap’s early funk roots.

Critical and Commercial Reception
Back in Business debuted to moderate commercial success, reaching #14 on the Billboard 200 and reaffirming the duo’s relevance. The single “Da Joint” charted well on hip-hop radio and became a cult favorite, receiving regular rotation on stations and music video channels.

Critics largely welcomed the album, praising the duo’s chemistry and Erick Sermon’s production in particular. While some reviewers noted that it didn’t push boundaries or explore new territory, others admired it for precisely that reason: EPMD stayed true to themselves and their original sound in a time of rapid change.

For long-time fans, the album felt like a homecoming.

Legacy and Place in Hip-Hop History
Though Back in Business is not considered EPMD’s most innovative or classic work, it remains a crucial part of their discography. It signaled the viability of legacy acts in hip-hop—artists who could return from hiatus and still deliver high-quality material without compromising their identity.

Moreover, the album’s release contributed to a broader ’90s hip-hop renaissance of sorts, where veterans like KRS-One, Rakim, and Gang Starr continued to thrive amid new waves of talent. EPMD’s return showed that the old school hadn’t been forgotten—and still had much to say.

Their influence is evident in generations of artists who value production, groove, and a cool-headed delivery—particularly in the East Coast’s underground scene and among producer-MC duos.

Conclusion
Back in Business is not just an album title—it’s a mission statement. With their signature blend of funk-infused beats and smooth-but-authoritative flows, EPMD reminded the world that classic hip-hop values never go out of style. While the album may not have broken new ground, it reaffirmed their place in the pantheon of hip-hop legends. It was a confident, stylish, and above all, authentic return—exactly what longtime fans had hoped for, and a lesson in staying true to one’s artistic roots in an ever-shifting genre.

Released on February 25, 2014, Oxymoron marked ScHoolboy Q’s major-label debut and his most thematically ambitious project to date. As a member of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE)—alongside Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock—Q emerged from the West Coast’s revitalized rap movement with a style that blended gritty realism, infectious energy, and psychological depth. Oxymoron is an album of contradictions, as its title suggests: it explores the highs and lows of gang life, addiction, fatherhood, and fame with unflinching honesty and sonic unpredictability. The result is a raw, aggressive, yet reflective body of work that solidified ScHoolboy Q’s place in modern hip-hop. Before reaching the mainstream, Quincy Hanley, a.k.a. ScHoolboy Q, had already cultivated a cult following with mixtapes and independent releases like Setbacks and Habits & Contradictions. His affiliation with the Hoover Crips, time in prison, and battles with addiction gave his music an authenticity that wasn’t fabricated—it was lived.

Signed to Interscope through TDE, Oxymoron represented both a personal milestone and a broader moment for West Coast rap. In the wake of Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, all eyes were on Q to deliver a follow-up statement that would affirm TDE’s growing dominance.
At its core, Oxymoron is about duality: the tension between darkness and light, violence and vulnerability, self-destruction and self-preservation. Tracks like “Hoover Street” and “Gangsta” dive into Q’s upbringing in gang territory, painting vivid portraits of family dysfunction, survival, and learned violence. On the haunting “Prescription / Oxymoron”, he tackles his mother’s prescription drug addiction alongside his own struggles with Xanax and Oxycontin, using a chilling double narrative to explore generational trauma.“Blind Threats” (featuring Raekwon) takes a more philosophical tone, questioning morality, religion, and loyalty amid chaos. Yet Q balances these heavy themes with bursts of energy and humor. Tracks like “Collard Greens” (with Kendrick Lamar) and “Man of the Year” are club-ready, high-octane records that still carry undertones of emptiness and escapism. The album’s title, Oxymoron, is more than a clever name—it is a structural and emotional framework, reflecting a man caught between two worlds: one he wants to escape, and one he can’t quite leave behind.

Oxymoron debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, a significant achievement for an artist who had spent years on the underground circuit. The album was both a commercial breakthrough and a critical success:
Critics praised its gritty realism, dense production, and unapologetic voice. It earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Songs like “Studio” (featuring BJ the Chicago Kid) became crossover hits, introducing Q’s unique style to wider audiences.
While not as narrative-driven as good kid, m.A.A.d city, Oxymoron was lauded for its visceral honesty and refusal to sanitize Q’s experiences for mainstream appeal.
Oxymoron stands as a landmark album not only for ScHoolboy Q, but for gritty, street-level hip-hop in the 2010s. It showed that vulnerability and violence could coexist in rap without being romanticized. Q positioned himself as an anti-hero, both lovable and loathsome, real and flawed.

He also proved that you don’t have to be a traditional storyteller to make a statement—sometimes fractured truths, scattered across a chaotic soundscape, paint a more honest picture of trauma, addiction, and survival.
Q's unfiltered delivery, coupled with TDE’s creative freedom, allowed Oxymoron to stand apart in a decade full of formulaic rap records. It remains a compelling study of contradictions, delivered by an artist who embodies them fully.

Oxymoron is a dense, volatile, and gripping album that captures the complex world of ScHoolboy Q—a man wrestling with his past while navigating fame, fatherhood, and inner demons. Through aggressive anthems and mournful reflections, he offers a look into the heart of someone trying to hold it together in a life defined by contradiction. Bold, flawed, and unforgettable, Oxymoron solidified ScHoolboy Q not just as a voice of the streets, but as one of hip-hop’s most compelling and conflicted artists.
