"Que Se Sepa Pt. 1 & 2" by Kenny Dope Featuring Daniel Rojo
Released on Kay-Dee Records, "Que Se Sepa Pt. 1 & 2" is a vibrant, rhythm-driven collaboration between the legendary Kenny Dope and talented vocalist Daniel Rojo. This two-part single captures the essence of Latin breakbeats, infused with the unmistakable flair of Roberto Roena’s cover song influence, creating an energetic fusion of tropical percussion and funky beats.

Kenny Dope, known for his work with Masters at Work and his extensive influence on the house and hip-hop scenes, produces a dynamic track that combines smooth rhythms with infectious hooks. The sound is an irresistible blend of classic Latin grooves and modern, dancefloor-friendly beats, perfect for both the old-school salsa lover and the contemporary club crowd.

The release is an homage to Roena's legacy, infused with breakbeats and explosive percussive elements that pay tribute to the genre's rich history. The energy and rhythms of "Que Se Sepa Pt. 1 & 2" are destined to bring the heat to any playlist, with Daniel Rojo’s vocal contributions adding the finishing touch to this unforgettable Latin-influenced masterpiece.

This release marks yet another impressive addition to Kay-Dee Records, known for curating tracks that bridge the gap between classic sounds and modern production, celebrating the vibrance of Latin music while keeping it fresh and exciting for today’s audience.

The duo Nu Genea return on their own imprint, NG Records, with a brand new single: Sciallà.

Infused with the unmistakable Nu Genea signature: groovy, sun-drenched, hypnotic, and irresistibly up-tempo. “Sciallà” is both a soft touch and a burst of energy. Sung in Neapolitan dialect and inspired by the rich musical tapestry of the Mediterranean and beyond, it’s a feel-good anthem crafted to ignite summer dancefloors with warmth, rhythm, and soul.

Alongside the original cut, the 7" record features an exclusive 'Ritmo' version, born from a late-night jam at NG Studios, which resulted into a wild fusion of percussion mayhem and swirling synths, pure rhythmic madness.

"Following Mr Bongo’s reissue of Studio Rio’s exquisite Brazilian-infused take on Bill Withers’ ‘Lovely Day’, which was one of the standout hits from last summer, we shine a light on another of their superb remakes. Masterminded and produced by the German, Grammy award-winning Berman Brothers, and using the same all-star cast behind the Bill Withers’ reinterpretation, they put a joyous Brazilian twist on the Marvin Gaye classic 'Sexual Healing'. Rich in positivity and a pure end-of-the-night classic, this is another surefire winner to light up any occasion. A project born out of Christian & Frank Berman's, aka the Berman Brothers, passion for Brazilian music, they had wondered what some of the all-time classic US soul songs would sound like if they had been recorded in Rio de Janeiro with the best Brazilian musicians. “The idea took root in the vibrant streets of Rio de Janeiro. Beyond the city’s main carnival, countless neighbourhood block parties pulse with live samba drumming, colourful costumes, and a joyful mix of freedom, music, and cultural expression. The goal was to capture this spirit and channel it into Gaye’s timeless hit,” explain the Berman Brothers. Heading to Rio in 2013, the brothers assembled a select team of top-level Brazilian musicians including many sidemen to one of Brazil’s most influential composers, Tom Jobim. They brought in Torcuato Mariano, renowned for his work with Djavan and Gilberto Gil, to arrange the songs, drawing inspiration from classic '60s / '70s Brazilian samba recordings for this new remake. Another addition was Pretinho da Serrinha, one of Brazil’s most acclaimed samba musicians, who worked with Seu Jorge, Caetano Veloso, and Lulu Santos. His masterful percussion and cavaquinho playing gave the track its irresistible summer energy. Having spoken to Sony about their idea, they were given access to the multitrack tapes, meaning they could present Marvin’s original vocal take with this reimagined Brazilian flavour. “Our goal was to create an authentic samba recording to accompany Marvin Gaye’s vocal performance. We wanted to honour the original while creating something fresh – hoping people would feel as if the song had been recorded this way from the very beginning”. Remoulding Gaye's iconic lovers’ anthem from 1982, the brothers flipped ‘Sexual Healing’ into a joy-filled, smouldering samba-driven beauty. It’s a breezy, light-hearted remake, with Marvin's sublime soul delivery sitting perfectly amidst the shuffling cavaquinho and cuica groove. Uplifting horn stabs, building melodies, and heartfelt harmonies elevate the song to an ecstatic climax. Now pressed to 45 for the first time, with the instrumental on the B-side, this single is the perfect cut to ignite the party or as that feel-good closer that will send everyone home on a high.
• Another surefire winner from Studio Rio with their joyous Brazilian twist on Marvin Gaye’s classic 'Sexual Healing'.
• Utilising the original multitrack recording of Marvin’s vocal.
• Masterminded by the German Grammy award-winning Berman Brothers, featuring Pretinho da Serrinha on cavaquinho and arrangement by Torcuato Marinao.

New Parisian label, Disques Messager, presents its first release and not the least. As its name suggests, the label has a simple leitmotiv: to place itself among the best messengers for rarities and sought-after gems of the international rare groove. A mission which begins rather well, with the official reissue of these two stirring titles by Brazilian singer and composer Cristina Camargo. Native of Rio De Janeiro, Cristina Camargo had quite a short career, releasing only 2 albums in 1980 and 1981, but still enough to collaborate with some of the best composers, musicians and producers at that time. Her first self-titled album was therefore produced by Robson Jorge & Lincoln Oliveti and recorded with some of the finest musicians. “Moral Tem Hora” comes from this same LP and is a perfect example of the unique alchemy that emerged when the Disco and Boogie invaded the Brazilian music scene. A quite hard to find Boogie killer, composed by famous brothers, Marcos and Paulo Sérgio Valle. On B side comes “Minas Do Rei Salomão”, a more chilled-out title extracted from Cristina’s 2 nd album, Santa Maravilha. With its funky slapped bass, airy keyboards and the sweet vocals of Cristina, the song seems made to sip a nice cocktail at Ipanema.

"Matasuna Records" takes another musical journey to "Miami", Florida, to spotlight the local band "Adam's Apple". Back in 1975, the independent label "Sound Triangle Records" issued a 7inch single featuring two of their songs: the ballad "Miami Para Mi" and the upbeat Latin/Salsa Funk cut "La Inflación De Ofelia". Now, this tune returns on 7inch vinyl for the first time, paired with an instrumental version that strips it down to its pure, funky essence. Written by Miami-based musician and songwriter "Eddie Elmer" - who also penned the Latin funk gem "Harina de Maiz" for "Los Sobrinos del Juez," reissued by Matasuna in 2019. This new release uncovers another hidden treasure from Miami's vibrant music scene. Don't miss out!
The band "Adam's Apple" was founded in Miami in the early 1970s by "César Izaguirre" and "Jorge Devera". Both had previously played with conga player and singer "Lina Arguelles" in the group "2+1", and she also joined the new band, along with other local musicians. In 1971, the group debuted the song "Miami Para Mi" (composed by "Titti Soto") at the "Miami-Dade Auditorium". This song would later become a staple of Adam's Apple's live repertoire.
Adam's Apple released on "Sound Triangle Records", an independent Miami label founded in the 1970s by "Manuel J. Mato". The label played an important role in the growing Latin American music scene in South Florida, providing a platform for many young Cuban-American bands. Spanning Latin rock, funk, soul, salsa and Caribbean sounds, its releases are both authentic snapshots of the era and sought-after collector's items.
This includes the 1975 single feat. "La Inflación De Ofelia & Miami Para Mi". "La Inflación De Ofelia" was written by "Eddie Elmer" (born "Elmer Rodríguez"), a musician and composer who was also active in the band "Los Sobrinos del Juez". His compositions are instantly recognisable for their blend of crisp drum breaks, funky bass lines, wah-wah guitars, frenetic organ interludes and infectious Latin flavors. This track offers a distinctive 1970s Miami sound, blending Latin rhythms with soul and funk.
Although the band's founders are no longer active as musicians, "Lina Arguelles" continues to play with her band "Lina & Legends 5".

New compilation by Coco Maria on her own new founded imprint Club Coco. Comes with a 4 page folded insert.

There are albums that aren’t just listened to—they’re lived in. Club Coco – New Dimensions in Latin Music is one of them. This compilation, curated by Coco María, marks the first release on her own label and serves as a sonic portrait of what Latin music can become when it’s guided by intuition rather than labels. Eleven tracks open the windows and cross continents as effortlessly as changing a song. Here, Neapolitan synthesizers coexist with digital cumbias, voices whisper from within the groove, and rhythms invite movement—without urgency or pretense.

This selection isn’t defined by a genre but by a feeling: that of someone dancing with an open heart and keen ears. Each track is a postcard from a corner of the world, and also a love letter to rhythm and the emotions it stirs. From Bogotá to Naples, passing through Lima, Amsterdam, and New York, this compilation offers a journey where past and future brush against each other in the present moment. Club Coco doesn’t aim to define a sonic truth, but to invite listeners to discover new ways of hearing and feeling.

The party has already started. Come on in.

Presenting a joyous double dose of Brazilian pífano magic by João do Pife, taken from his iconic Folclore Alagoano LP and pressed for the first time on 7” vinyl. The infectious, uplifting energy of the instrumental track 'Garoto Do Pife' has been a dancefloor weapon for revered selectors such as Gilles Peterson, Cliffy and the Mr Bongo DJs, and we are proud to be reissuing it for the first time.

The pífano, pifaro or pife, which creates the distinctive melodies in these tracks, is a simple seven-hole woodwind instrument from the Northeast region of Brazil. Often made out of bamboo or taquara wood, they are rich in folkloric music tradition and paired with percussion instruments to form the Bandas de Pífanos groups, which originated from the Northeastern states of the country. "Pifeiros” such as João do Pife, Edmilson do Pífano, and Carlos Malta brought the pífano into a wider public eye through their albums and vinyl recordings.

A part of pífano maestro João do Pife’s rich legacy, these two mesmerizing and timeless tracks originate from his sought-after 1975 LP Folclore Alagoano, released on the Tropicana label. Born João Bibi dos Santos, in the state of Alagoas (Brazil), João do Pife became an ambassador of Northern Brazilian culture and folklore through his music, which placed the pífano centre stage.

For this 7" issue, we have curated two of our favourite tracks from the album, 'Garoto Do Pife' and 'Homenagem a Ludugero', that exude a driving and joyous dancefloor energy. With lively accordion and organ accompaniments that weave around João do Pife's sublime pífano playing, they channel a folk spirit that will resonate deep within your soul.

As inspiration for the picture sleeve, we have adapted the original cover photo art for this 7 inch issue. João do Pife’s music, which is housed within, will sweep you away to Northeastern Brazil in an instant.

Originally released in 2005, CéU introduced the world to a bold new voice in Brazilian
music. Seamlessly blending samba, MPB, soul, and downtempo grooves, Céu delivered a
debut that felt both deeply rooted and strikingly contemporary. With her smoky,
understated vocal tone, she evoked echoes of classic bossa nova while pushing into new
sonic territory — covering Bob Marley's "Concrete Jungle" with Afro-Brazilian swing and
layering in dub and electronica accents. Hailed for its elegance and quiet innovation, the
album hit No. 1 on Billboard’s World and Heatseekers charts, earned a Grammy
nomination, and became the highest U.S. chart debut for a Brazilian female artist since
Astrud Gilberto. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, CéU returns remastered for vinyl — a
modern Brazilian classic reissued for a new generation of listeners.

Babo Moreno is the brainchild of Fabio De Oliveria, a respected drummer and percussionist, who having worked with the likes of Sault, Jacob Collier, Terry Callier, Alfa Mist, Jalen Ngonda and Airto Moreira, is now stepping forward with his own sound. Fabio is the proud bearer of a legacy of Brazilian music in London, particularly influenced by the artist's father, renowned percussionist Bosco De Oliveira (Terry Callier, Sade, Working Week, Dom Um Romão & Founder of the London School Of Samba).
Babo Moreno, an independent artist, was featured in Giles Peterson's BBC 6 Music "Looking ahead to 2025" show at the start of the year, having already been celebrated across UK radio including Jazz FM (Tony Minvielle, Robbie Vincent, Dom Sevini & Reuben Green's 'Song of The Week'), BBC Radio 2 (Jamie Cullum), 6 Music (Giles Peterson, Cerys Matthews), BBC Radio 3 (Soweto Kinch), BBC London (Robert Elms Live Session), NTS, Worldwide FM & Soho Radio. Prominent support includes Jamie Cullum who called his debut single Rei Da Pesca "one of my tracks of the year no doubt" on his BBC Radio 2 show and Jordan Rakei calling himself a "big fan" of this "new artist leaning into Brazilian sounds". Having sold out his London Latin Jazz Festival show and been selected as a Rising Talent by La Linea festival to support Francisco, el hombre at London's legendary Jazz Cafe, this debut album is well awaited by his fans.

Babo Moreno spearheads a new generation of world leading British-Brazilian instrumental music. The enchanting mix of jazz & Brazilian influences (Forró, Ijexá, Maracatu) is an exuberant articulation of life as a young Londoner from an immigrant family, and the mix of Brazilian roots and London swag is unmatched. Think…Hermeto Pascoal meets Tony Allen and Eddie Palmieri in a Notting Hill bar.
The artist's self-titled debut album, driven by Fabio from behind the drums,is an ode from this British artist to his Brazilian heritage, expressing a sense of joy, nostalgia and, at the same time, alienation through his dual identity. It sits alongside a new wave of Brazilian artists (Amaro Freitas,Bala Desejo, Tunico) who build upon the country's rich musical heritage.

The album features top-tier musicians such as Dennis Rollins (Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis, Monty Alexander), Mercury Prize 2023 winner Ife Ogunjobi (Ezra Collective, WizKid, Burna Boy), Gilli Lopes (Dom Salvador, Duduka Da Fonseca), Tamar Osborn (Dele Sosimi, Collocutor, Sarathy Korwar) with a special feature from Baque Luar, a London-based collective of female and non-binary vocalists and percussionists. The album was recorded at Livingston Studios and Fish Factory Studios. It was co-written and co-arranged by Greg Sanders, produced by Fabio De Oliveira, engineered and mixed by Benedic Lamdin (Nostalgia 77) and mastered by Caspar Sutton-Jones at Gearbox Records.

Official Mr Bongo reissue. Replica original artwork.
Mr Bongo brings another Brazilian rarity to the masses with this sublime reissue of Tim Maia’s Disco Club. Recorded in 1978, it’s a latter-period gem from the larger than life legend, combining the glitz and glamour of disco’s heyday with Maia’s raw funk and soul roots. When Maia first heard Little Richard as a teenager, he knew what kind of singer and artist he wanted to be. Five formative years spent in the US, where he ran wild in NYC and joined a doo-wop group called the Ideals, did little to dampen his enthusiasm for black music. Stirred by the civil rights movement in the US and driven by a punk spirit, Maia went on to blaze his own trail through the early 70s over the course of four successful albums for Polydor. Moving away from the straight MPB, Tropicalia and international rock dominating the airwaves, his sound represented a new black Brazilian consciousness. When he sang, he could be raspy and defiant one moment … and then romantic and reflective the next. But always on a groove and with a hook. It was an irresistible combination.
Yet by 1977 he was bankrupt and in limbo having first joined a religious cult called Superior National and then alienated listeners with his first album sung entirely in English. To complicate matters further, Brazil was feeling the Saturday Night Fever. Gloria Gaynor, Chic and Kool & the Gang were dominating the charts and filling hotspots such as New York City Discotheque in Ipanema and Frenetic Dancing Days in the Gávea Mall. Maia left his usual band and went into the legendary Estudios Level with a mighty ensemble of Rio’s finest including Paulinha Braga on drums, Jamil Joanes on bass, Robson Jorge on clarinet, Hyldon De Souza on guitar, Sidinho on percussion, trombonists Edmundo Maciel and Darcy Seixas, and Juarez Assis on tenor sax.
Arranger and keyboardist Lincoln Olivetti was a crucial presence during these sessions. He added that all-important string flourish and brassy joy to the uptempo tracks while giving the star enough room to express himself. The album kicks off with a trio of floor fillers: the exuberant party starter ‘A Fim De Voltar’, a sing-a-long anthem in ‘Acenda O Farol’ and the undeniably funky hit ‘Sossego’ (file that one next to Fatback).
But then Maia drops it down and gets existential on ‘All I Want’, questioning the meaning of happiness. He also shows his tender side on slow burners such as ‘Murmúrio’ (written by the great Cassiano) and ‘Pais E Filhos’, the latter featuring a supersoft bed of harmonies you can't help but lay down on. But the party ain’t over and mid-tempo groover ‘Juras’ gets the feet moving again before ‘Jhony’ sends us swaying off into the night.
Maia’s appetite for excess would eventually get the better of him. But Disco Club is the sound of an unpredictable genius on top form. Get ready for the time of your life.

One of those rare, lesser-known Latin funk gems is undoubtedly "Miami" by Dominican-Venezuelan musician "Porfi Jiménez", originally released in 1971. Sought after by DJs and collectors for years, original copies are now almost impossible to find in decent condition.
The track has been high on "Matasuna Records"' wish list for a long time - and after several years of work, it's finally getting an official reissue. The release also includes a great edit by Philadelphia-based DJ and producer "Retro Roland Riso", who has already left his mark on previous Matasuna releases.
This heavy Latin funk joint from Venezuela is ready to bring the heat just in time for summer!

The original version of "Miami" impresses with its driving percussion, powerful horns and raw, unpolished sound, delivering pure energy. The fusion of funk grooves and Latin American rhythms creates an infectious vibe that is perfect for the dance floor.
Retro Roland Riso's edit carefully enhances the track by adding extra beats and percussive elements, giving it more punch and making it even more club-friendly, while staying true to the original feel. It's a fresh favourite for any bag!

Artist info:
"Porfi Jiménez", whose real name was "Porfirio Jiménez Núñez", was born in 1928 in Hato Mayor del Rey in the "Dominican Republic". He began his musical training at the early age of 9. After studying at the Municipal Academy of Music he became a member of an orchestra at the radio station "Voz Dominicana". Its director "Enrico Cabiatti" introduced him to the art of arranging.

Due to the Trujillo dictatorship, he left the country in 1954 and went to "Venezuela", where the young musician became famous as a trumpeter and played in the most important groups of the time. The quality of his original arrangements opened the doors of the most famous record companies of the time in Venezuela. Porfi also became one of the most outstanding composers and arrangers of those years, rebuilding Cuban "José Pagé"'s Cuban label "Velvet" in Venezuela and working for all the label's national and international singers.

At the end of the 50's until the beginning of the 60's, he worked in orchestras of various TV stations in the Venezuelan capital Caracas. In 1963, Jiménez founded his own orchestra, which became known as one of the most important musical groups in Venezuela throughout Latin America.

In the 70's, musical transformations resulted from the emergence of new musical styles & rhythms. Porfi Jimenez, as a contemporary artist and passionate jazzman, began to incorporate new musical elements into his songs that distanced him from the prevailing commercial style. This resulted in the album "Parrilla Caliente", which was released as the band "Phirpo y sus Caribes" and remained the band's only album. The production, practically unknown, allowed him to experiment and express his artistic creativity, distancing himself from the traditional style of his dance orchestra.

Salsa music and its orchestras lost importance in the 80s and were displaced by new music. However, another Caribbean rhythm filled the gap: the "Merengue", which triggered an international boom. Porfi also embarked on this path, releasing an album that immediately catapulted him back to fame. It was a period in which he received numerous awards, such as two gold and one platinum disc.

Shortly before his death, on June 9th 2010, Porfi Jiménez managed to realize his lifelong dream: the formation of his jazz big band, with which he performed at numerous festivals in Caracas. With it, he left an important musical legacy, with several original compositions and arrangements of the most prominent names in jazz history. In 2007, Porfi Jiménez was honored by the "United Nations" as one of the most outstanding musicians of the continent.

Presenting an official reissue of Coke’s audacious, engrossing self-titled album from 1972, originally released on Manuel J. Mato’s collectible Sound Triangle Records imprint. It’s a heavy hit of Miami Latin-funk, dosed up with psychedelic garage rock and gritty soul excellence, making for an intoxicating blend of styles and genres on this highly sought-after LP.

Predominately sung in English, Coke’s only album under this moniker is a sumptuous melting pot of influences, tied together with bright funk drumming, flavourful organs and zesty horns. With a garage band attitude and sensibility, the lineup consisted of Paul Garcia on guitar, Ariel Hernandez on bass, Ruben Perez on drums, Jose Rubio on the keys, a host of guest horn players and Peter Fernandez on vocals, whose tone and delivery was often mistaken for that of a woman.

Produced by Mato, the record and band were well-received in Miami and Southern Florida at the time. Due to a lack of promotion outside of Florida and the threat of a lawsuit from the Coca-Cola corporation for usage of their name, the band fell into relative obscurity, becoming Opus following the dispute.

They say the cream always rises to the top though, with Coke being rediscovered by diggers and collectors searching for a rare groove. One of the standout cuts on the album 'Na Na' was recently featured on the soundtrack to the Netflix drama 'Griselda' (a biopic of Miami/Cuban crime boss Griselda Blanco). Other highlights include the crooner-jazz-rock ‘Got to Touch Your Face’, the psych ballad 'You Turn Me On' with a guitar line reminiscent of The Doors, and the Latin-rock groover, 'Te Amo Mas'.

Coke is a sensational crossover record, that draws from a sea of different influences. Fans of early Santana, garage-pysch, Nu Yorican and Latin-funk productions should all investigate this cherished album - it will have something for you.

Blue note / Schema / Far Out recordings artist shares a new compilation of golden age italian library music.

Following his acclaimed five-part Viagem compilation series celebrating Brazil's forgotten bossa nova and samba jazz, Far Out, Blue Note and Schema recording artist and international DJ Nicola Conte turns his curatorial attention homeward with Viaggio, an extraordinary exploration of Italy's library music renaissance 1970-79.

The 12-track compilation spotlights the remarkable creative explosion that occurred during the seventies: when some of the greatest yet most historically overlooked composers, including Amedeo Tommasi, Alessandro Alessandroni and Max Rocci, were composing and recording huge amounts of original music for film and television libraries.

Unlike commercial releases designed for mass consumption, library music was created specifically to accompany images on screen. This meant creative freedom for composers who imagined scenarios, feelings and worlds to soundtrack. Pressed in limited quantities, these recordings were distributed only to internal circles of music supervisors, journalists, and television professionals – making them virtually invisible to the general public for decades.

"This is a journey through a largely forgotten world," explains Conte. "While major jazz recording opportunities were scarce, an incredible network of small labels owned by publishing companies – often created by the composers themselves – began to flourish. This created an open space where musicians could express more experimental and free thinking sounds."

At the heart of Viaggio stands Amedeo Tommasi, the sophisticated jazz pianist who emerged in 1960 backing international stars like Chet Baker, Bobby Jaspar, and Jacques Pelzer. Tommasi was among Italy's earliest artists to introduce Black US modal jazz influences, and when traditional recording opportunities dwindled, he pivoted to soundtrack and library music, helping define a distinctly Italian sound that bridged experimental jazz with the emerging possibilities afforded by developments in synthesizer and recording technologies.

The compilation features rare gems from small label outputs, namely the Cenacolo and Rotary label catalogs. Tommasi's contemporaries include the great Alessandro Alessandroni and his vocalist wife Giulia De Mutiis (Kema), Stefano Torrosi (under the alias Farlocco - meaning fake/phony), and Belgian composer Joël Vandroogenbroeck. The recordings capture the technological evolution of the era as beguiling synthesis often combines with global influences spanning Brazilian rhythms, jazz-funk explorations, and Middle Eastern scales.

"You can hear both the haunting melodies and sun-kissed atmospheres so typical of Italian culture from that era," Conte observes. "Some of these albums could have been proper artist releases, while others were specifically designed for accompanying images on screen, yet all were crafted with exploratory creativity that still resonates powerfully today."

New single by legendary Brazilian singer DI MELO, 40 years after his classic self-titled Samba-Soul LP. Performed and produced by French brilliant combo COTONETE, this single and collaboration will be followed by a full album early 2019.
Florian Pelissier speaks about the project: “On tour in Brazil with Cotonete, we had a few days off in Sao Paulo and I really hoped to make a collaboration with an important artist or band from the Brazilian funk scene. We had thought of Marcos Valle, Meta Meta or Ed Motta... but Rafaela Prestes our Brazilian "sound ingineer/genious" told me: "I worked for the return of Di Melo in Rio 2 years ago. He rocks, he’s adorable and he lives in Sao Paulo, here’s his number, he would be perfect for Cotonete."
No sooner said than done. I'm a huge fan of Di Melo and had already tried to contact him for Cotonete 6 years ago. The next day, on a Sunday, he arrives at our house with Jo, his wife, and Gabi, his daughter. He takes the guitar in front of us in the kitchen, and gives us a private show of 3 hours… we cried the tears of joy.
He had 400 original songs never recorded, a gold mine. On the same night, we started working the arrangements for 2 days, followed by a rehearsal and two small gigs in Sao Paulo. Immediately after, we recorded in the magical Epsilon B studio. All with the participation of Gabi, his 10-year-old daughter, and future star.
This album is the summary of this moment, of these 5 days of madness spent together between “the best band in the world” and the legend Roberto Di Melo… Simple, beautiful, Brazilian-French, human music…”

Some crate-digging compilations are often the result of someone hand-picking their choice favourites from another country’s musical history, perhaps unaware or uninvolved with its cultural lineage in the process. On Soundway’s latest release - a treasure trove of synth jams, pop, samba boogie, balearic and electro from 1980 & ‘90s Brazil - the tracks are picked by Millos Kaiser, one half of the Brazilian duo Selvagem, who are at the helm of throwing some of the country’s best dance parties. It’s a rare compilation that offers Brazilian music actually picked by a Brazilian.
Whilst names such as Ricardo Bomba, Villa Box, Fogo Baiano, Electric Boogies and Batista Junior may not be household names, they tell an untold, yet rich and important part of musical history in Brazil. The release also covers a decade that has been intentionally forgotten and brushed aside by many in the country.
Onda De Amor is a release that is loaded with smooth grooves, bubbling bass, glistening synthesisers, funk strutting guitar lines and sheen of production that undeniably marks it of its time. For Kaiser this compilation is about reintroducing music during a period of reappraisal, catching a new wave and hoping contemporary listeners will ride it with him. “The idea is to do justice to these songs. Songs that combine all the right ingredients that should have put them on radio playlists when I was growing up or at least in the cases of more adventurous DJs”.
Millos Kaiser is a DJ, digger, vinyl junkie/dealer born in Rio de Janeiro and living in São Paulo for the past 8 years. He launched the dance party/club night Selvagem with partner Trepanado in 2010, bringing thousands of dancers one Sunday a month to a public square in the heart of São Paulo.

Phylipe Nunes Araújo's songs are as rich and varied as the diverse landscapes they were written in. The hills of Pernambuco, the lagoons of Alagoas, and the beaches of Bahia are all woven into his stripped-back, folk-inspired Brazilian songwriting. As part of a wider movement of musicians originating from Brazil's Northeast, Phylipe sees the process of music-making as the search for beauty itself.

Collaborating with fellow Northeastern artists Bruno Berle, Batata Boy and Nyron Higor among others, Phylipe's debut album represents the latest flowering of this exceptionally talented community's creative search.

The Northeast holds an almost sacred importance in Brazil's collective cultural imagination. The region bore witness to the brutal histories of Portuguese colonization and the African slave trade, while simultaneously amalgamating the diverse cultures, religions and traditions of those who have called it home. Countless Brazilian music greats - Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Hermeto Pascoal, Djavan and Luiz Gonzaga - have emerged from this vast cultural melting pot.

Born in Caruaru, Pernambuco state, and raised in the city of Santa Cruz do Capibaribe (famed for its textiles industry), Phylipe describes his music simply as "Brazilian music from the Agreste of Pernambuco". His masterful compositions thread together regional rhythm, folk poetry and sophisticated harmony.

Phylipe’s musical foundations were laid in youth, listening to the local elders rehearsing their forrós, attending São João street parties in front of his house and watching the Junina Quadrilhas dance through his neighborhood. At street fairs he would read the Literatura de Cordel (handcrafted pamphlets of Brazilian folk literature), and watch the rhyme battles between cantadores, violeiros, and repentistas, who improvise verses on daily life, social commentary and philosophy. This tradition of Northeastern folk poetry proved particularly formative for Phylipe as a lyricist. "I always try to write things as simply as possible. I believe that beauty must be easily understood. If I can facilitate the path to the message, there's no reason not to. It's something I learned from the traditional poetry here: it's more beautiful if everyone understands."

At the age of 11, Phylipe first got access to the internet. As he explains: "Still in adolescence I was also able to discover things like The Beatles and Nick Drake - I started to get to know music from the rest of the world and later to correlate that with my local musical experiences." Rich with extended chords and artful dissonances, it's clear from his compositions that jazz and bossa nova also took hold, but he's quick to eschew stereotypes. "Inevitably, people associate a Brazilian musician playing a nylon-string guitar with bossa nova…" "But the foundation is another story," he asserts, "It’s the Northeast."

On the guitar Phylipe experiments with the binary rhythms inherent in traditional Northeastern music. Coco, frevo, maracatu and baião are recontextualised, placed alongside Brazilian popular music (MPB), gentle lullabies and stunning ballads. "In these 10 songs, I am experimenting with making pop music on a nylon-string guitar with my foundation in the Northeastern songbook."

The contemporary musical community which Phylipe belongs to developed initially in Pernambuco's neighbouring state Alagoas. Phylipe lived in its capital Maceió for three years, where he built friendships and musical bonds with Bruno Berle and Batata Boy who together produced his album. Bruno also sings in unison with Phylipe on the duet "Valise", a song Phylipe wrote aged just 15.

In recent years, Phylipe, Bruno and Batata have migrated south to São Paulo, where the majority of the album was recorded. Other collaborators on the album include Alici, who provides vocals for the ebb and flow of "Temperim", Nyron Higor who plays drums on lead single “Asa” and the sweet indie moment "Ziz"", bassist Meno Del Picchia who plays on the mystical baião "Bixin" and the propulsive "Subindo a Ladeira", and Raphael Coelho who joins Bruno and Batata on percussion for "Santa Cruz", Phylipe's hypnotically powerful portrait of his hometown.

All songs composed by Phylipe Nunes Araújo, with the following co-authors:
"Muito Dengo" (1) and "Temperim" (4) with Raísa Feitosa;
"Bixin" (2) with Ivana Fontes;
"Ziz" (3) with Marvin Silva;
"Ainda É Verão" (5) with Denise Oliveira Dendê;
"Santa Cruz" (6) with Ítallo França and Richard Plácido.

Two brothers, two guitars, two distinct identities, who become one soul when they compose music. Stephan and Alejandro, are the Hermanos Gutierrez, an instrumental music band with an unmistakable genre that is rooted in Western and Latin American sound. Born from an Ecuadorian mother and a Swiss father they grew up being forged by both cultures, bridging between two worlds, both of which are home.

Their mix of identities, that constant search across different countries clearly emerges in their songs. Their music takes the audience on an intimate journey through time evoking remote spaces. A magical sound that touches the heart, that sparks passion and nostalgia. An open invitation to a constant dialogue of melodies and instruments.

Playing together since their early childhood, a profound musical and interpersonal symbiosis ties the two brothers. If one of them has a melody, the other one completes it with harmony. There is a deep understanding between the two of them, without any need for words.

Active as a band since 2015, they have recorded four albums: “8 Años” (2017), “El Camino De Mi Alma” (2018), “Hoy Como Ayer” (2019), and the newly released LP “Hijos Del Sol” (Children Of The Sun). A body of work that has been inspired by their journey through the vast natural landscapes of Mexico, the silence of the desert, the sun, and their love for this country that made them feel “like going home”, as they affirm. Out came a soundtrack of the sceneries they’ve been exploring.

Back in print ! By the time this album was released, Antonio Carlos Jobim was already an international superstar. Having recently won a Grammy (1965) for "The Girl From Ipanema", by 1967 all the big name stars from up north were breaking down his door to work with the new "Gershwin of Brazil." In fact, Jobim had just finished working on an album with Frank Sinatra when he went into the studio to record this album. Recorded in 1967, Wave is actually one of the lesser known masterpieces of Brazilian music, and undoubtedly one of Jobim's greatest. Here Jobim and the great Claus Ogerman lead a top-flight cast on hidden classics like Batidinha, Triste and Wave.

LP reissue from this 1970 album, originally out on Phillips. Totally brilliant. A unique blend of samba and soul, that apparently transformed Brazilian music from the release of this record onwards. Trio Mocoto joins Jorge Ben on this album, and it's their percussive sound, Jorge's voice and the light string arrangements that create pure magic... Highly recommended!

13 years in the making, Mr Bongo proudly presents a new compilation of beloved Brazilian disco and boogie finds from the legendary London disco connoisseurs, Horse Meat Disco. A labour of love, it showcases a tantalising cross-section of disco, funk, boogie, samba and MPB, from past to present. Unearthing tracks from the seemingly endless gold mine of Brazilian gems, the compilation features legends such as Jorge Ben, Gretchen, Marcos Valle and Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti, alongside unsung heroes including Zé Carlos and Carlos Bivar.

Over 20 years ago, the Horse Meat Disco crew (James Hillard, Severino Panzetta, Jim Stanton and Luke Howard) began their weekly residency at Eagle London back in 2003. That same year, Luke made his first visit to Brazil, beginning a musical love affair that is still going strong.

“I had always wanted to go to Brazil since I was a kid, and when I finally had the opportunity to go with Princess Julia, I was just blown away. I’ve visited Rio every year since 2003, and in that time, I’ve learned Portuguese and tried to discover as much as I can about Brazilian music and popular culture. I learned to dance samba with the Paraiso School of Samba in London and paraded three times at Rio Carnival. Brazilian music was a brand-new world for me to explore and get excited about—a whole universe of genius musicians, singers, and styles.”

9 years later, Mr Bongo invited Luke down to their Brighton HQ for a listening session of some of his favourite Brazilian boogie and disco 7" finds. A compilation was green-lit, but multiple licensing delays and the release of other HMD compilations meant that it lay dormant for years.

Fast forward to 2024, and with the help of esteemed, Rio-based record collector Tee Cardaci, along with suggestions from HMD’s James Hillard, the dream of an HMD Brazilian compilation finally materialised. It’s a carefully curated collection that includes the electronic-boogie/italo-disco-esque 1984 groover 'Venha (Remix)' by the singer Źe Carlos, two cuts by Luiza Maura taken from her sought-after Deixa Girar 7", and Gretchen's sultry 'Ela Tem Raça, Charme, Talento E Gostosura' written by Jorge Ben.

At its core, this compilation captures the excitement and sense of discovery that won over Horse Meat Disco’s heart more than 20 years ago. A vibrant mix of feel-good flavours, it homes in on a sun-soaked strand of disco and boogie that has been enriched with the spirit of a nation where music serves as a central pillar of life.

During the mid-1970s, Jorge Ben could do no wrong. Known as the father of samba rock, Ben gained an international audience with an infectious singing style marked by bright optimism and funny satire; A Tábua de Esmeralda deviated from the script by delving into the alchemy of the Middle Ages, as well as the second coming of Jesus, but the production is so nuanced and his voice so agreeable that the album was a surefire hit, and Ben manages to squeeze in some groovy numbers saluting womanhood, and slave leader Zumbi dos Palmares. The result is a must-have Jorge Ben gem that has stood the test of time, and then some!

Conjunto Media Luna presents two new tracks that bring together different geographies, collaborators, and histories of cumbia. “Kumbia dos Pasitos,” in collaboration with Turbo Sonidero, and “No es Moda,” alongside La Terrorista del Sabor, are released jointly on 7” vinyl by Little Beat More and on digital platforms through In-correcto. The cover design is by Bogotá-based artist Mateo Rivano, whose work has defined the visual identity of several influential projects in Colombian alternative music. “Kumbia dos Pasitos” is a dialogue between Bogotá and San José, California, weaving accordion traditions from the Montes de María with drum machines, samples, and codes of street cumbia. It follows the path of a genre that has circulated for decades, crossing borders and creating communities from Monterrey to Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, and Bogotá. Turbo Sonidero, co-founder of the Kumbia Net collective, has been central in this process, shaping new approaches to digital cumbia and linking sonidero culture with hip-hop, electronic music, and slowed-down bass. “No es Moda” takes a different angle. It rejects the idea of cumbia as a trend and situates it instead as continuity and resistance. La Terrorista del Sabor’s voice cuts through the track with urgency, connecting to the tradition of dark cumbia that has grown between Mexico and the U.S. Southwest, in dialogue with figures such as Amantes del Futuro, Turbo Sonidero, and the wider Kumbia Net network. Together, the two tracks reflect on dance as a shared space: from sonidero dances in Mexico to raves and underground gatherings across the globe. They also introduce SIK (Sociedad Internacional de la Kumbia), Conjunto Media Luna’s forthcoming album, which traces a decade of exploration between accordion, machine, and bass, and highlights the scenes that continue to expand cumbia from the margins. The cover art, created by Mateo Rivano, places the Tunjo, a pre-Columbian symbol of the Muisca culture. This is no accident. The image bridges the mythic aura of Colombia’s Salto del Tequendama with Mexico’s sonidero world and its iconic Tequendama de Oro Awards. Yet “No es Moda” travels far beyond: from San José, California to Buenos Aires, from Rotterdam to Warsaw to Tokyo, the track maps a global community operating from the margins. A community that sees cumbia, and its sonic mutations, as a vehicle of resistance, and the dancefloor as a battlefield, regardless of geography or nationalities.

Grammy-nominated Canadian ensemble, Badbadnotgood, present the latest edition of Mr Bongo’s iconic Brazil 45 boxset series. Hailing from Toronto, the band who now comprise of Alexander Sowinski, Chester Hansen and Leland Whitty, made their name by crossing genres and developing a distinctive amalgamation of jazz, hip hop and psychedelic grooves. Their rise to the forefront of their scene, has led to collaborations with icons such as Tyler, The Creator, Kendrick Lamar, MF Doom, Samuel T. Herring (Future Islands) and Ghostface Killah. With a penchant for an earworm hook, their sound takes cues from across the globe, both past and present, not least from the wealth of music that has emanated out of Brazil over the last 70 years.

Beatmakers, musicians and record collectors at their core, the influence of Brazilian music on Badbadnotgood’s productions is clear to see, with previous collaborators including Arthur Verocai and Tim Bernardes. It seemed only right then, to hand them the reins for the next edition of our signature boxset series. As ever, the brief was simple, compile a selection of your favourite Brazilian cuts from the country’s rich musical makeup. Delving into their love of Brazilian music from the ‘60s up to the current day, Badbadnotgood’s selections work like a beloved mixtape, taking you on a journey through time and genres. Starting with contemporary tracks from O Terno and their sublime, skippy string-laden number ‘Tudo Que Eu Não Fiz’, to Chico Bernardes’ heartfelt, slowly simmering folk track ‘Até Que Enfim’. Elsewhere, Menahan Street Band and Rogê's modern-anthem mood lifter 'Tropical Man' feels like a timeless funky Brazilian classic, and listeners are treated to Bala Desejo’s Dora Morelenbaum at her most serene and ethereal on 'Vento de Beirada'.

There’s also a deep dig into lost Brazilian treasures. First up, a beautifully haunting, psych-folk obscurity taken from Naire's self-titled 1974 album. This is backed by Guilherme Coutinho and Grupo Stalo's genre-shifting, trippy-pop anomaly 'Rio Corrente', echoing successive bands such as Stereolab and Belle & Sebastian. Alongside it, a much-loved classic from Antonio Adolfo E A Brazuca, 'Transamazonica', sits side by side with a dose of 1966 bossa-jazz excellence from Som/3.

Closing out the boxset, the deepest and most experimental selection comes from Sebastião Tapajos and Pedro dos Santos' quirky guitar and percussion 1972 track 'Despedida de Mangueira'. This is paired with a heroine of the keys and underground Brazilian musical great, the musician / vocalist Ana Mazzotti and her track ‘Agora Ou Nunca Mais’.

A captivating collection of sought-after tracks crossing genres, decades and tempos, offering a glimpse into Badbadnotgood’s eclectic tastes, whilst exploring ever further the richness of Brazil’s musical history.

A year and a half after the release of their Latin Grammy-nominated album, Me Chama De Gato Que Eu Sou Sua, the award-winning Brazilian trailblazer, Ana Frango Elétrico, returns with two new songs: ‘A Sua Diversão’ and ‘Não Tem Nada Não’. Both tracks are the result of a remarkable collaboration with legendary Brazilian artist Marcos Valle, creating a dialogue between generations. The 7” single will be released in partnership by the labels RISCO, Mr Bongo and Psychic Hotline.

First up, Ana drops the laid-back sultry Brazilian-funk gem 'A Sua Diversão', written alongside Tuca Monteiro and co-produced by Guilherme Lirio. With a breezy ‘80s tinged feel, the sumptuous bassline, funk strutting guitars and cosmic synths are the perfect match to Ana’s instantly recognisable vocal tones. A track with a nostalgic air but a contemporary flair, it includes guest backing vocals by three of Brazil’s finest, Dora Morelenbaum, Marcos Valle, and Patrícia Alví.

Next, a firm favourite from their live show, Ana reinterprets and re-records a 1973 Marcos Valle classic 'Não Tem Nada Não', written collaboratively with Eumir Deodato and João Donato. During Ana’s tour across 11 countries and over 40 sold-out shows, this cover quickly became a fan favourite. As audiences began tagging Valle in Instagram stories, he showed his support by reposting Ana’s performances. This online exchange blossomed into a real-life connection when the two artists met at a benefit concert for Rio Grande do Sul and the idea of a collaboration materialised.

Putting their own distinctive spin on the recording, Ana duets with Valle, who features on vocals and Rhodes. As the track progresses it morphs seamlessly into a reimagination of Crystal Water's anthemic 'Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)' from 1991. This inspired yet unlikely combination blends exquisitely and is a perfect distillation of Ana’s energetic and absorbing live presence.

Back in stock due to popular demand, the 54th release in our signature Brazil 45’s series. For this 7” double header we turned our attention to two outstanding boogie gems from Hanna and Almir Ricardi. Up first, ‘Deixa Rodar’ is an essential midtempo disco/boogie jam taken from Hanna’s 1979 Deixa Rodar LP from 1979. A tip off from our good friend Mark ‘gv’ Taylor, this is a sure-fire way to light up any dancefloor and was featured in DJ Koco’s incredible Brazil 45’s mix. On the B side, ‘To Parado Na Tua’ is another killer midtempo disco/boogie cut, this time from Almir Ricardi in 1984. Produced by the legendary duo of Lincoln Olivetti and Robson Jorge it exudes that feel-good boogie flavour they are famous for. Taken from the sought after and now fairly pricey ‘Festa Funk’ LP on RGE.

1970’s best-kept Bossa Nova secret. Surrounded by mystery for nearly 50 years due to its obscurity, this is one of the most honest, personal and unpretentious albums of its genre. A selection of 12 exquisitely crafted songs supported by measured, subtle arrangements.
The list of musicians born or raised in the Tijuca district of Rio de Janeiro is long and illustrious and includes names that have shaped Brazilian music: Tom Jobim, Roberto Carlos, Tim Maia, Milton Nascimento, Jorge Ben or Erasmo Carlos – to mention but a few. We can now add to that list another name: Werther. In 1970, a man by that name recorded an album unique in its personality, its honesty, and its lack of pretense. In a time when Bossa Nova had become a global phenomenon and its main characters were already household names in Brazil, Werther assembled a collection of songs that uncannily – almost naively – remind us of the time when Bossa Nova was just a group of youngsters making music. His songs are about simple things: bohemian life, the sea, love.
Despite Werther and his friends being only in their teens, without any previous experience recording music, those working behind the scenes were not equally amateur. Producer Peter Keller had already worked with Aloysio De Oliveira in the quintessential Bossa Nova label Elenco, and was also an initial partner in Roberto Quartin’s cult label Forma. Studio owner Bill Horne was a very loved character in the Rio jazz scene who had regularly taken part in the legendary meetings in Nara Leão’s apartment and befriended some of Brazil’s most respected musicians. Some of these musicians were, for example, Naná Vasconcelos and Edison Machado, who provided small contributions to Werther’s album.
It was only in the 1990’s that Werther’s album was rediscovered by a handful of collectors and Brazilian music enthusiasts, who recognised in it a purity that had already vanished from the mainstream Bossa Nova recordings. But due to the haziness around the original release and the relative anonymity of its instigators, many questions surrounding these recordings were left unanswered. Today we are finally able to disclose the full story behind Werther’s short-lived contribution to Brazilian music.

'Acabou Chorare' is the second album from Novos Baianos, a legendary band who formed in Bahia, Brazil in the 1960’s. They are considered to be one of the most important and revolutionary groups in Brazilian music. 'Acabou Chorare’ was originally released in 1972 by Som Livre after the success of their first LP 'É Ferro na Boneca’ in 1970. It was both a hit and a cultural milestone and rightly considered to be one of the most important and influential albums of all time, charting at number one in a Rolling Stone Brazil's 'Top 100 Brazilian Albums Ever’ chart. 'Preta, Pretinha’ placed 20th in the same publications list of the greatest Brazilian songs of all time. Upon release, 'Acabou Chorare' stayed near the top of the album charts for more than thirty weeks and received huge radio support across the country. It also became very popular in Europe shortly afterwards. The unique sound of this record is a result of the fusion of samba, MPB, rock and bossa nova, and strong influences from Gilberto Gil (who frequently played with the group), as well as bossa nova legend, Joao Gilberto. Our 50 Years Anniversary edition is a celebration of this wonderful record and features a neon yellow and transparent curaçao split vinyl, gatefold sleeve, A2 colour poster and OBI Strip.

[Excerpt from Back Cover Liner Notes by Alex La Rotta]
Ramiro Rodriguez—Son Bayoú accordionist–shouted into the microphone: "We started at the pulga and now we're here!" The crowd erupted. He adjusted his red Hohner accordion to lead his band into a blistering rendition of Andres Landero's "La Pava Congona."
"Here" was the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston: the Bayou City's preeminent modern arts museum which invited the group to perform their barrio cumbia inside their hallowed spaces. When I first met them, formerly as Reyno Sabanero, they had in fact originated within Houston's pulga circuit—a network of Mexican flea markets where cumbia, the people's music of Latinoamérica, has long lived and thrived. I later hired them to perform at a Colombian Independence Day celebration I produced, where, along with two friends and deejays—Miles Ake of San Francisco and Felipe Galván of Houston—we spun cumbia on wax before the band stormed the stage with hand drums and accordions. A group of Colombians in the crowd asked what part of Colombia they came from. "Nah pues, somos de Greenspoint," Rodriguez quipped: the Northside neighborhood where they proudly hailed.
Led by Rodriguez and Juan Torres, Reyno Sabanero morphed into Son Bayoú: an update on their roots sound with a nod to their H-town pride. Few cumbiamberos cite Andres Landero and DJ Screw as inspirations. But then again, Landero and Screw—icons of the pop underground, the latter a patron saint in Houston's signature "chopped and screwed" sound—share more in common than the disparate genres might suggest. "Soy Landeristo, 100 percent," Rodriguez affirmed. His style descends from Andres Landero: the San Jacinto-born squeezebox renegade whose prolific 1960s-1980s recordings for mythical Colombian labels, from Fuentes to Tropical, define the sabanera tradition. As sophomores, Rodriguez and Torres, whose exposure to tropical music stemmed from early years in Monterrey—a cumbia capital with deep cultural ties to Houston—knew in their foremost band ambitions they'd pivot from synth-heavy Tejano cumbia around them to produce something as Colombiano roots as possible. Friends from Monterrey brought sonidero mixtapes. On YouTube, they streamed Soundway Records' impressive anthology, The Original Sound of Cumbia, learning of faraway accordion kingpins from Anibal Velásquez to Aniceto Molina. Son Bayoú—hand-making güiros in high school, disciples of originators—is less a rehash of the Andean past as a new sabanera variant where la costa collides into the swampy concrete jungles of Screwstonia.

Quarteto Novo only released one album, yet they number amongst one of the more influential acts in Brazilian music. Originally set up as a “Trio Novo” by a pharmaceutical company who wanted a live band at an event, they were then picked up by Geraldo Vandre (who was, at that time in 1966, the winner of a Brazilian music popularity competition) for a tour of the Brazilian northeast. After the tour, the trio - comprised of a very young Airto Moreira (percussions), composer, solo artist & soundtrack composer producer and arranger Theo de Barros (bass and subsequent guitarist) and Heraldo do Monte (guitar) who also went on to have a fairly successful career - was joined by multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal. Recorded in 1967, this was the first album for Airto, and it was a hugely influential release - mixing the tradition music of northeast Brazil with bebop jazz and folk. Quarteto Novo emphasized northeastern Brazilian music and acoustic instruments for an “organic” sound. This first reissue in 25 years of this holy grail is a must for any lover of Brazilian jazz, samba and folk music

For number 84 in the Brazil 45 Series, we headed to the North of Brazil with these dancefloor monsters by Magalhães and Os Panteras. 'Xangô' by Magalhães is taken from his 'E Sua Guitarra' album, from 1986, and originally released on Gravasom Records. A stunning, driving Lambada track with haunting vocals and a compelling gusto energy. It has been gaining popularity over recent years with DJs and is a sure-fire, get-out-of-jail dancefloor saver. On the flip, we find another biggy from Os Panteras, 'Lambada Pauleira’. Also released on Gravasom Records, but a year later in 1987. It is best known for Joutro Mundo's fine re-edit of the track, but here we have it in its original form and with all its quirky brilliance. It is easy to see why, over the years, it has been a staple of some of Brazil's finest DJs’ sets, such as Augusto Olivani (aka Trepanado). We are super happy to once again present these two red-hot tracks back-to-back.

Exactly three years ago, "Matasuna Records" released a hot Latin 45 feat. two songs by the Venezuelan band "Phirpo y sus Caribes", led by musician, arranger and conductor "Porfi Jiménez". Now, fortunately, two more tracks from the band's only album, "Parrilla Caliente", are being reissued on vinyl by Matasuna - and for the first time, on a 7-inch! The original pressing of the 1972 album on "Philips" is a rare and valuable collector's item. Officially licensed by the family of the late musician. Don't miss this gem! "Y Esa Pava Que?" on the A-side of the single is an explosive Latin funk joint written by Porfi Jiménez. An irresistible groover, opulently and densely orchestrated with virtuoso musicians showing off their musicality. Heavy drums, powerful horns, funky & slightly psychedelic keys & guitars are the basic ingredients, enriched with solo parts and vocal interludes. A real treat! The B-side features "Pa' Los Rumbero", a cover version of the song by New York Latin maestro "Tito Puente". In 1972, Puente recorded a great new version of his original 1955 composition. Phirpo y sus Caribes used this new version as the basis for their cover, compressing the Puente song to about two and a half minutes. The result is an energetic and upbeat song that proves that Porfi Jiménez and his bandmates were among the continent's finest musicians. Vamos que la rumba ya va empezar!

Artist info
Porfi also became one of the most outstanding composers and arrangers of those years, rebuilding Cuban "José Pagé's" Cuban label "Velvet" in Venezuela and working for all the label's national and international singers.

Captain Planet has teamed up with 2 long-time collaborators (Zuzuka Poderosa & Raphael Futura) for a new Brazilian disco funk song, "Moqueca." The song harkens back to Brazil's legendary funk parties in the 70's and early 80's - where soundsystems bumped legends like Tim Maia, Sandra Da Sa & Gilberto Gil - while infusing some fresh contemporary energy and extra thump for today's dancefloors. Zuzuka's bright vocals bounce over a bubbly bassline, syncopated percussion and wormy vintage synthesizers, while an additional punch is brought in the form of horn arrangements by the prolific maestro Todd Simon, another frequent Captain Planet collaborator.

"Moqueca" takes inspiration from the Brazilian dish of the same name, a nationally famous fish stew that varies across the regions of Brazil. In her lyrics, Zuzuka talks about the origins and variations of Moqueca, starting with the style from Espirito Santo, her home state, and continuing to Moqueca Baiana, from Bahia, which incorporates African influences and ingredients. The result is a song that is as much an homage to Brazilian music as it is its food, culture and people.

Ella and the Bossa Beat is a project by the young and talented Ella Borges (vocals and piano) and her father Magrus (drums and percussion) that combines Latin, soul and bossa nova sounds with jazz music. With "Amare", a refreshing and radiant track conceived almost by chance in the Milanese label recording studios, Brazil meets Italy and Mediterranean flavours thanks to a two-voice refrain sung in Italian by Toco and Ella. Robson Barros also plays the electric bass, while Gianluca Petrella, who arranges the horns and plays the trombone, sketches an exotic frame around a cheerful and amusing tune. The B-side includes a remix by Gerardo Frisina, who enhanced the rhythmic and percussive elements of "Amare" and transformed the song to make it his own.

One of the most full-formed albums ever recorded by Brazilian maestro Osmar Milito -- a set that features vocals throughout by Quarteto Number One -- a very cool harmony group with a sound that's somewhere in the territory of Quarteto Em Cy or Mpb4! The quartet mix together male and female voices, in a swirling, mellow style that's perfect for Milito's fuller backings -- which themselves mix together electric piano with bits of flute, guitar, trombone, percussion, and light strings -- all in a style that has light undercurrents of funk at the bottom, in a way that makes the album come across like some of the best on EMI/Odeon from the time! The singers never dominate too much, but they help give the album a sense of focus that's sometimes missing from Osmar's other records. Titles include "Eu Dei", "A Briga", "Morre O Burro Fica O Homem", "Dose Pra Leao", "Minhas Razoes", and "Chiclete Com Banana".

Named after a beloved ice cream parlor in Caracas, is a Venezuelan power trio that blends the rhythms and melodies of their homeland’s traditional music with a dynamic fusion of rock, funk, Latin grooves, jazz, and exotica. Comprising a trio of accomplished musicians—Neil Ochoa (Si Se, Chicha Libre), José Luis Pardo aka Cheo (Los Amigos Invisibles, DJ Afro), and Bam Rodriguez (Arturo O'Farrill)—the band creates a genre-defying sound that is both rooted in heritage and boldly progressive.

Drawing inspiration from Venezuela’s diverse musical traditions, Los Crema Paraiso reimagine folk classics, transforming them with electrifying guitar riffs, intricate percussion, and deep, groove-driven basslines. Their compositions seamlessly navigate from the earthy tones of joropo and merengue to the cosmic realms of psychedelia and experimental jazz, making their music equally at home in dance clubs, jazz venues, and rock festivals.

Los Crema Paraiso has captivated audiences across the globe, bringing their high-energy performances to major stages in the United States, including the Ruido Festival in Chicago, River to River Festival in New York, the Latin Alternative Music Conference (lamc), and the Echale Festival in San Antonio. Beyond North America, they have performed in Venezuela and Colombia, sharing their vibrant take on Venezuelan music with local audiences. Their reach extends even further, as they embarked on an Australian tour in 2014, further solidifying their international presence.

Chancha Via Circuito brings us his highly anticipated new album Bienaventuranza- a word that essentially means bliss. Replete with his signature touches of Andean instruments (think lots of flute and charango), the folkloric elements on this album blend fluidly with danceable and digestible electronic beats. He's been cooking this record slowly, with unprecedented amounts of care and in a much more collaborative manner than his past albums.

Appearing on the album are heavy hitters in the digital cumbia scene, including Mateo Kingman, Kaleema, and Lido Pimienta, all of whom contribute their highly distinguishable sounds to the natural flow of the album. Most of these collaborations came about almost effortlessly.

As dancefloor-friendly as it is mystical, Bienaventuranza is as Chancha as it gets- with elements from Cumbia to Dancehall to Andean Folk to Global house, crystal clear production, and collaborations that are evidently natural and genuine, the record holds true to the sound that Canale has played such a huge part in creating. Since the release of his last album, the digital folk scene has also grown exponentially. From a new generation of producers to more listeners in unassuming parts of the globe, Pedro has been humbled to see the sound develop- and proves with this album that he's grown swiftly alongside it.

Because it's the passion for music that drives the person behind the decks, a dj's debut is bound to exude authenticity. It's often themselves they're recounting in music, posing on the slip mats their DNA and what makes them who they are.
When you're just starting out, you're faced with a multitude of routes to take and styles to play. When you know just how devastating it can be to step out of line and empty the dance floor even faster than it filled up, it often takes a lot of audacity to break the unity of a funk evening with a punk track.
Over time, to evolve is to find oneself facing only two roads.
On the first one, to satisfy the greatest number of people and not lose the credit for his fees, the dj adapts to the trend. Whether he likes what he's playing or not, the road has become a freeway and, indeed, a very comfortable one. The audience already knows everything there is to hear and doesn't come to hear anything else. Thirty seconds, or even a minute of each track, is more than enough. Everything has to flow quickly. Everything is marked out and secured. Those who respect the regulations will (normally) make the journey without accident. Several times a week, several times a month, several times a year. Curiosity disappears altogether.
And then there's the other road. Where nothing is expected nor sometimes even ever heard. The road of an unquenchable passion for diggin' and the desire to always know more and more. A passion billed at the price of hours of research-finding spent in the discomfort and possible disappointment of never coming across anything exciting, as well as nights exploring platforms and multiplying clicks resulting in a good old headache. Until that moment of grace happens when, after thousands of fruitless shakes, the nugget stands alone in the sieve, without the slightest doubt as to its quality.
Coming from places never mentioned for their music, sometimes classics of their genre, they are also rarities miraculously saved from total disappearance, as much as current marvels, but threatened to never leave the immensity of the web. Even if the possibility of a text with substance is never excluded, they can tell long stories or be destined solely to make you dance till you're dehydrated. Scintillating with spirituality, some can also vaporize energy and replace it with a pure emotion capable of touching hearts in the bareness of simple percussions.
This road is marked by sincerity, singularity and surprises, but always in a communion between the dj and the audience, who embark on it together, with mutual confidence in the promise of hours of sharing and discovering.

An album about his "love for Brazilian music and its many shapes and colors," Sao Paulo-born Sessa's debut Grandeza sets the scene for who The New Yorker called a "songwriter cut from Veloso's mold and blessed with a flair for the intimate, the enigmatic, and the licentious.' Long out-of-print, Mexican Summer continues its exploration of Sessa's musical vision with this special Fifth Anniversary Edition on Pink + Purple Splatter Vinyl (limited to 1000 copies). Sung in Portuguese, with visceral, sensual lyrics in the vein of Caetano Veloso and the lush melodies of Tom Jobim, Sessa’s sound, by contrast, has a deliberate minimalist treatment rarely found in contemporary Brazilian music, more reminiscent of the bareness of Leonard Cohen. Sessa propels Grandeza’s devotional sounds towards decisively modern territory.

The album has been released in different versions and on two different occasions. The first, in 2004, saw the original release of “Other Directions” as a 2-lp set, while a single CD version had been licensed to Blue Note Records. In 2011, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Edizioni Ishtar, Schema Records has published a 2-cd version with an extra CD featuring the tracks previously released on vinyl, plus some unreleased ones.

Always in balance between Jazz and Bossa Nova, “Other Directions” reveals Nicola Conte’s compositive soul bound, furthermore the composer’s intention is to communicate not only through the music but through the lyrics too, showing a talented and learned songwriter. Inspired both by the beat literature (The Dharma Bums is a true homage to Jack Kerouac) and the English one (Wanin’ Moon is inspired by a Percy Shelley’s poem), also the cinema and dramaturgy influenced the composer: “Le Depart” is a reassessment of the piece written in ’67 by Krzysztof Komeda for the namesake Jerzy Skolimovsky’s movie, and “All Gone” is a homage to Joseph Losey’s “Il Servo,” a ’60s black-and-white movie directed by Harold Pinter.

Includes a line-up of Italian and international artists such as Gianluca Petrella, Daniele Scannapieco, Pietro Lussu, Lorenzo Tucci, Fabrizio Bosso, Nicola Stilo, Till Brönner, Nicola traces with great skill the sensuality of the dialogue between the winds and the piano, he beats and emphasizes its rhythms, and adds some extremely elastic voices, the most remarkable of which belongs to Cristina Zavalloni.

One of the rarest and most enigmatic LPs in the Brazilian discography, Prá Quem Sabe das Coisas is a collective album that gathered a group of students from São Paulo Law School, supported by the organist/pianist Renato Mendes, one of Samba-Jazz's most important names. Released in 1973 by the label Ebrau, finally has a refined reissue and its mysteries revealed, exactly half a century later, considering that it was recorded in 1971 but put in the market as LP only two years later. This reissue comes with an original insert replica with lyrics and an extra insert with unseen photos and an exclusive interview that the journalist and researcher Marcelo Pinheiro did with CAU Pimentel adding even more to the richness of this workpiece, composed by many writers and performers in 1971.

A Brazilian samba-jazz group integrated by pianist
César Camargo Mariano, bassist Humberto Clayber,
and drummer Airto Moreira, Sambalanço Trio started
its run in the mid 1960’s and lasted for just about two
years. The albums they recorded during that short
but intense lapse, are considered among the most
important musical works of that period, and greatly
influenced many other groups of samba and jazz.
Presented here is their debut album, the self-titled
Sambalanço Trio, along with six bonus tracks.
