The first time on any format for Pier Paolo Pasolini's controversial 1975 vision of the Marquis De Sade's 120 Days of Sodom, featuring beautiful and discordant classical compositions, in stark contrast to the shocking and cruel events unfolding onscreen. Three weeks before the scandalous release of "Salò, or The 120 Days of Sodom", Pasolini was brutally murdered in Ostia, Italy. In the wake of the tragedy, legendary composer Ennio Morricone wrote 'Addio a Pier Paolo Pasolini' (Goodbye to Pier Paolo Pasolini) for the late filmmaker, included in the final edit. Following the narrative of one of Pasolini's defining cinematic moments, the soundtrack opens with Ennio Morricone's "Son Tanto Triste" (I’m very sad), descends into the melancholic minor chords of Bach, Chopin, Orff, Puccini, and Graziosi, incorporates sinister renditions by the cast, and includes Morricone's own sombre tribute to the director. Disgusted by the flood of crass sexploitation movies which filled the space opened up by his "Trilogy of Life", Pasolini turned to the most nihilistic thinker in European history for what became his final film. His version of De Sade's 120 Days of Sodom, amplified with motifs from Dante's Inferno, confronts the ultimate implications of fascism in a series of sexual and moral atrocities. "The only true anarchy is power".

THE LAST OF US, HBO's hit drama based on the acclaimed video game of the same name, is back with an all-new soundtrack for Season 2. The original composer for both the video game and its 2020 sequel, two-time Academy Award® winner Gustavo Santaolalla returns alongside his Season 1 co-composer, Emmy Award® winner David Fleming. Together, the duo joins forces to create an emotionally laden soundtrack spanning everything from intimately moving guitar pieces to action-packed orchestral sequences.

The album was originally introduced in April 2025 with the release of "The Path," a new version of one of the video game's most popular tracks, newly recorded by Santaolalla with the help of Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello. In addition to the album's 37 score tracks, there are also 4 vocal songs on the album, including a cover of A-ha's hit song "Take on Me," performed within the show by lead actor Bella Ramsey.

"Working on the music for the second season of THE LAST OF US allowed me to delve deeper into this extraordinary story originally created by Neil Druckmann for the game and masterfully reimagined for the HBO series by Neil and Craig Mazin," said Gustavo Santaolalla.

Blurring the lines between fiction and documentary, the seminal film Wild Style, directed by Charlie Ahearn and developed alongside Fred Braithwaite aka Fab Five Freddy, offered an iconic snapshot of the emerging New York hip hop scene in the early ‘80s. Considered one of the first hip hop films, it documents the styles, culture, attitudes, and most importantly, the music of this evolving era. The accompanying soundtrack remains one of the most influential in hip hop history, featuring a who’s who of artists who stood out during the movement’s nascent block party days.

Also included are an A2 colour poster, five film set photos, a flexi disc containing Fantastic Freaks Live at the Dixie, and a Wild Style sticker sheet.

Originally released on Animal Records, founded by Chris Stein of Blondie fame, the soundtrack focuses on the hip hop scene as it evolved from the streets to the recording studio. Co-produced by Stein and Braithwaite, it features the Double Trouble pairing of Rodney Cee and KK Rockwell, The Chief Rocker himself Busy Bee, and the mighty line-ups of both The Cold Crush Brothers and The Fantastic Freaks, to name but a few. The music offers a transportive glimpse into the streets of the South Bronx, capturing the free-form, roaming nature of the film - it’s rough around the edges, but utterly absorbing.

Behind those foundational voices of hip hop’s first wave was a selection of backing beats that have underpinned and influenced the genre ever since. Easily mistaken for lifted breakbeats from old records, the songs on the Wild Style soundtrack are all unique creations. Overseen by Braithwaite and Stein, with Stein also on guitar and effects, they were intended as a homage to those early breakbeats. Drummer Lenny “Ferrari” Ferraro, who played for Aretha Franklin before emerging on the punk scene, and bassist David Harper laid down many of the iconic grooves, two somewhat forgotten participants in shaping a legendary sound.

Over time, the Wild Style soundtrack, with its Charlie Chase and Grand Wizard Theodore scratches, recurring sounds and motifs, and indelible lyrics, has become a hip hop touchstone: endlessly sampled and referenced, the bedrock of so much music to follow. It perfectly encapsulated the essence of the film, the scene, and hip hop’s emergence from the Bronx to the attention of the wider world. It was, and remains, the blueprint.

Similar to their workflow on Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness, Fendrix and Lanthimos began their third collaboration prior to the film’s production, with Fendrix recording much of the music based solely on conversations with the director as a guide. “For Bugonia, Yorgos did not allow me to see the script, or know anything about the film apart from the three words ‘Bees,’ ‘Basement’ & ‘Spaceship,’” recalls Fendrix of the process. “All of the music is derived from my research on these three areas and seeing how much connective tissue they might have, mainly in a structural/systemic/geometric sense and in regard to some ideas about altitudes. Decided early on, however, was the idea to utilize a symphony orchestra throughout the score, prompting a two-day recording session with the London Contemporary Orchestra at the legendary Air Studios with Fendrix conducting. “It was a 90-piece orchestra in one room, which is a very big sound,” Fendrix says. “And they're up for playing around, they're up for experimenting, they're up for embarrassing themselves musically, which not a lot of orchestras are. So being able to play with an orchestra that has that standard, but also that flexibility, which I was able to draw some more unusual, more provocative sounds out of, was an absolute joy.

Quentin Tarantino established himself as one of the few filmmakers to effectively use pop music with his first film Reservoir Dogs, a movie where the music was integral to the success of the film yet also worked well as a collection of songs. Jackie Brown, Tarantino's long-awaited third feature, finds him exploring new territory, creating an homage to blaxploitation flicks as well as a surprisingly subtle character study and love story, and its soundtrack appropriately finds him in new territory as well. The soundtrack still features snippets of dialogue, which simply aren't as effective separated from the film as those from Pulp Fiction, but the unified collection of '70s soul and funk is refreshing. He has wisely selected a batch of songs that haven't been worn out by oldies radio, building the bulk of the album with cult favorites like Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street," Bill Withers' "Who Is He (And What Is He to You?)," Randy Crawford's "Street Life," Minnie Riperton's "Inside My Love," the Vampire Sound Inc.'s "The Lions and the Cucumber" and Pam Grier's "Long Time Woman." Only "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time," "Strawberry Letter 23" and "Natural High," as well as the Grass Roots' "Midnight Confessions," are familiar oldies items, but they play an integral part in the film itself and help make the soundtrack a thoroughly enjoyable, compulsively listenable experience. - Thomas Erlewine at allmusic.com

The main theme, “Il clan dei siciliani,” has become one of the composer’s most iconic pieces, with its clear melody, melodramatic structure, and orchestral arrangement that blends melancholy with sophistication. Since its first release as a 45 RPM single in 1969, the piece has stood as a classic of the genre, uniting popular appeal with musical depth.

The album was promoted by the release of six singles; the album's lead single "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa topped the charts in 10 countries including the UK and Ireland as well as reaching the top ten in 25 countries including the US. The second single was "Angel" by PinkPantheress and the third was "Barbie World", a collaboration by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with Aqua, which reached the top ten in 15 territories including the UK and US. A fourth single "Speed Drive" by Charli XCX was a top ten hit in the UK and Ireland. The fifth single "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish topped the charts in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, and Australia, and entered the top ten in 15 countries. Ava Max's "Choose Your Fighter" was serviced to airplay radio as the album's sixth single on July 28, 2023.

Upon release, the album was met with critical and commercial success. It debuted at number one in Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and New Zealand and reached the top ten in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United States. At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, the album won Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, while four of its songs ("Dance the Night", "Barbie World", "What Was I Made For?", and "I'm Just Ken") received nominations for Best Song Written for Visual Media. "Dance the Night" and "What Was I Made For?" were additionally nominated for Song of the Year and the latter for Record of the Year.

"The Pink Panther" - Henry Mancini (arr, cond, p) & orchestra The film director Blake Edwards brought into existence what is probably the best opening sequence to his comic crime film when he commissioned a young enterprising company to produce an animated Pink Panther cartoon film. The creative team came up with the idea of giving the cold, glittering diamond the guise of a cool, pink panther, which leads a bungling detective on a merry dance to the slinky sound of the Panther theme.
Mancini would not be Mancini if he did not bathe the film location – the skiing resort Cortina d’Ampezzo –in highly varied musical colours and genres. His well-known love for dance music finds itself in the samba ("It Had Better Be Tonight"), the shuffle ("Champagne And Quail"), and the cha-cha ("Something For Sellers"). But also the ballad, sung by a muted trumpet and saxophone ("Royal Blue"), or the simple combination of keyboard and strings ("Piano And Strings") are all woven into the story. One of the most memorable and delightful sounds is that of the accordion, whose melodies evoke an atmosphere that is filled with the Bohème, Paris and the sound of the musette. This music is never gaudy, but subtle, just like a panther padding quietly along. And if your appetite is now whetted for more, there is an extra portion of Mancini to be found in "Breakfast At Tiffany’s" (RCA LSP 2362). Jeremy Thomas’ 1978 production of The Shout, adapted from a short story by Robert Graves and directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, is highly regarded amongst British horror and electronic music fans due to its bold, arthouse approach to psychological drama, propelled by experimental studio techniques and visceral sound design. The film’s score and audio effects were almost entirely created by the songwriter and record producer Rupert Hine (Thinkman, Quantum Jump, Rush, Stevie Nicks, Kevin Ayers, Nico, Howard Jones, Underworld, Tina Turner & more). Rupert recorded reels of ideas and experiments for the film between 1977 and 1978 using an EMS Vcs3, Yamaha Cs80, Eventide Harmoniser and Roland Space Echo. He also created Crossley‘s terrifying shout and other foley effects such as the musique concrète for John Hurt’s studio scenes.

Upon release marketing for the soundtrack focused on the involvement of Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford from the rock band Genesis. Their contribution was two short, repeated themes, co-produced with Rupert. It hasn’t been possible to include those tracks due to some challenging rights negotiations but what we do have is all of Rupert’s electronic effects, musical cues, demos, loops, drones and outtakes.

Listen closely and you’ll hear Rupert's sounds scattered throughout the film, discreetly mixed by award-winning sound editor Alan Bell (The Man Who Fell To Earth, The Bounty) and Tony Jackson who use them to establish the film’s creeping dread. Rupert was an early adopter of new technology and amongst the sonic experimentation there are some gorgeous synthesised pieces using the Yamaha Cs80, almost 4 years before Vangelis used the same instrument to create his legendary Bladerunner score.

Rupert sadly passed away before completion of the tape transfers but it’s clear from the wealth of material we uncovered how immersed he was during the soundtrack’s production. It’s a testament to his creativity that, with a fairly simple studio set up, Rupert was able to conjure such an inspired selection of themes and effects.

Horner’s composition blends sweeping orchestral writing with distinctly Celtic instrumentation, including Uilleann pipes, tin whistles, flutes, and Celtic harp, to evoke the rugged landscapes and emotional intensity of medieval Scotland. The result is a score that feels at once intimate and epic — capable of underscoring both the tender love story between Wallace and Murron and the violent struggle for independence. The soundtrack is built around a handful of recurring melodic ideas, the most famous being the main love theme, first introduced in “A Gift of a Thistle,” and reprised throughout the film in various emotional contexts.

Musically, Braveheart represents a balance between traditional folk elements and symphonic grandeur. The score’s use of Scottish-inspired melodies, modal harmonies, and choral textures lends it a timeless, mythic quality, while its orchestral richness keeps it firmly within the realm of classic Hollywood epic scoring. It influenced a generation of film composers, including Hans Zimmer (Gladiator) and Harry Gregson-Williams (Kingdom of Heaven), who drew inspiration from Horner’s fusion of emotional intimacy and large-scale orchestral color.
