After the acclaimed Bar Mediterraneo, Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina return with People Of The Moon, expanding their sound into a space of creative freedom. It moves fluidly from Afro-Cuban influences in “Celavì” to Anatolian textures in “Ma Tu Che Bbuò”, blending highlife guitars with Nu Genea’s signature mandolins-new rhythms filtered through an Italian lens.

The first single “Sciallà” (2025) introduced this direction: dance as catharsis, not escape. The title track reflects a quiet resilience-persistent rather than triumphant. “Onenon”, featuring Tom Misch, channels Mediterranean brit-funk, while “Acelera”, with María José Llergo, evokes a flamenco-tinged pursuit of the unattainable.

“Puleza” recalls Nuova Napoli with driving energy and vintage synths, while “Shway Shway”, sung by Celinatique, captures the album’s orbital flow-measured, rich, and rhythmically complex, echoing afrobeat explorations with Tony Allen.

Melody remains central, as in “Carè”. Across ten tracks, falling, flying, and dancing merge in a suspended groove. Gabriel Prado’s “Ondas Do Mar” embodies this pull: a cyclical motion, like the tides—irresistible, transformative, and alive within us.

Freudian is the debut studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, originally released on August 25, 2017, through his independent label Golden Child Recordings. Widely regarded as his breakthrough project, the album established Caesar as one of the leading voices in contemporary R&B by blending neo-soul, gospel, jazz, and alternative R&B with deeply personal songwriting. Inspired by the psychological theories of Sigmund Freud, Freudian explores the complexities of love, intimacy, vulnerability, faith, and self-discovery, presenting relationships as both emotionally transformative and deeply flawed.

Created over several years following the release of his early EPs, Freudian reflects Daniel Caesar's experiences with romance, spirituality, and personal growth. Raised in a deeply religious household, Caesar often writes about the tension between sacred and secular love, weaving biblical imagery together with honest reflections on desire, commitment, and emotional uncertainty. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the album unfolds as a series of intimate conversations that examine the many stages of a relationship—from infatuation and devotion to conflict, forgiveness, and acceptance.

Musically, Freudian is defined by warm, organic production built around live instrumentation, soulful harmonies, gospel-inspired vocal arrangements, and understated R&B grooves. Longtime collaborators Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett played a central role in shaping the album's sound, which draws influence from classic soul, jazz, folk, and contemporary R&B while remaining minimalist and emotionally driven. The result is a timeless record that places Caesar's expressive vocals and introspective lyrics at the forefront.

The album features guest appearances from H.E.R., Kali Uchis, Syd, Charlotte Day Wilson, and fellow Toronto artist Sean Leon. Standout tracks include "Get You" featuring Kali Uchis, which became Daniel Caesar's first major international hit and introduced his music to a global audience. Using high-resolution audio from the original master tapes of the highly popular albums "brasilian SKIES," "jolly JIVE," and the early best-of album "all OF ME," remastering and cutting were performed by Alex Wharton at London’s Abbey Road Studios. Alex Wharton is one of Abbey Road's representative engineers, having worked on the mastering of albums by Paul McCartney & Wings and The Chemical Brothers.

This limited first pressing features 180g heavyweight vinyl. "brasilian Skies" comes in clear sky blue, "jolly Jive" in clear lime yellow, and "all OF ME" in clear light green, with colored vinyls that enhance the imagery of the jacket artwork.

This 1978 work reflects the influence of Latin music and a free-spirited approach, created across studios in L.A., Rio de Janeiro, and Izu. The Twit 1, II, Three are a Cologne-based band made up of producer Twit One, vibraphonist Maxime von Koblinski, and drummer Niklas Schneider (Keshavara). Their first album is being released on Melting Pot Music and features a unique blend of hip-hop, krautrock, tropicalia, spiritual jazz, and ambient.

Twit One has been shaping Cologne’s beat and hip-hop scene for more than 15 years – as a DJ, producer, radio maker, and co-owner of the Groove Attack record store. For Twit, hip-hop is less a genre than an attitude and cultural technique rooted in African American music history. With The Twit 1, II, Three, he’s realizing his sound vision in a band context for the first time, together with classically trained musician Maxime von Koblinski on vibraphone and Niklas Schneider from Cologne kraut-pop band Keshavara on drums. Twit acts as musical director, provides samples and ideas, and sometimes plays bass.

In 2024, The Twit 1, II, Three self-released a C20 cassette limited to 100 copies and played shows at the following venues: Week-End Festival and Soundball Festival (Cologne), Philharmonie Essen, Schleuse Zwei (Düsseldorf), Aktionshaus (Berlin), De Duivel (Amsterdam).

Afterwards they moved into Satori Studio in Cologne-Müngersdorf, where the band spent a year and a half working away on their debut album. The self-titled album will be released in October 2026 and throws the doors wide open: hip-hop, krautrock, tropicalia, spiritual jazz, and ambient form the cornerstones. Twit One, fully produced and played with real instruments, would be the down-to-earth description. Sun Ra & Dilla on their way to Jupiter with a stopover in Montreux would be the more poetic one. 8 out of 10 tracks are instrumental. Guest vocals come from Reginald Omas Mamode IV and Turt (Summers Sons), two longtime musical friends who were invited and who also release on MPM. Artwork by Jeremias Diekmann & Robert Winter.

The Bluegreen vinyl edition of the "Promises 'Abiogenesis'" LP by Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders and The London Symphony Orchestra is released on Luaka Bop and presents Sam Shepherd’s composed, fully through-composed work as a physical pressing.

"Promises" is conceived as an extended composition that has been divided into several movements and adds up to around 45–50 minutes; the recording took shape in Los Angeles and, with the strings of the London Symphony Orchestra, in London. Pharoah Sanders contributes tenor saxophone and vocal elements, while Sam Shepherd (Floating Points) is responsible for piano, keyboards, synthesizers, as well as composition and arrangement.

Musically, the work combines electronically influenced soundscapes with an orchestral foundation; repetitive motifs, delicate textures from Fender Rhodes, celesta and modular synthesizers, along with Sanders’s intense horn lines, shape the character of the recording. The fusion of spiritually inflected jazz and contemporary, economically scored orchestral poetry defines the specific sound of this project.

The LP comes in a gatefold sleeve with die-cut sections that reference a painting by Julie Mehretu; Sam Shepherd also handled the mixing, while the lacquer cutting was done by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. This edition underscores the close interweaving of composition, production and design.

Here comes an incredible Fusion Jazz-Funk discovery on vinyl for the first time. From the vaults of mastermind Günther Fischer came this unreleased outstanding Rare Groove material with breathtaking international high class Jazz from 1974. It bears no comparison with absolute international most wanted sounds from Marc Moulin's Placebo, Masaru Imada´s Green Caterpillar, the german ensemble Catch up, UK´s Nucleus or the US jazz milesstones from Catalyst. It is unbelievable that an East German band played and recorded such fresh modern electrified Jazz at this time. In a perfect modern jazz line-up, Günther Fischer not only plays the Saxophone but also the Synthesizer! Despite the fact that this highly sought-after and therefore mostly fully booked studio and stage band worked with greats such as Manfred Krug, Uschi Brüning and Armin Müller Stahl in the 1970s, these deep and funky inspired "underground jazz" recordings were made and presented to select jazz concertgoers. CASE STUDY 01 is the second studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar, released on June 28, 2019, through his independent label Golden Child Recordings. Following the critical and commercial success of Freudian (2017), the album represents a significant artistic evolution, expanding both Caesar's sound and lyrical scope. While Freudian focused primarily on love, relationships, and spirituality, CASE STUDY 01 turns inward, exploring themes of identity, fame, philosophy, mortality, and the search for meaning. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, psychedelic soul, and alternative R&B, the album showcases a more experimental and introspective approach.

The title CASE STUDY 01 reflects Caesar's intention to examine his own thoughts, emotions, and experiences as though they were part of a personal experiment. The album opens with "Entropy," which features a quote from physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and introduces ideas of chaos, impermanence, and the unpredictable nature of life. Throughout the record, Daniel Caesar combines philosophical reflections with deeply personal songwriting, creating a project that feels more conceptual and exploratory than its predecessor.

Musically, CASE STUDY 01 broadens Caesar's sonic palette. Longtime collaborators Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett returned as producers, alongside contributions from Boi-1da, River Tiber, and The Neptunes. The album blends soulful melodies, jazz-influenced harmonies, gospel-inspired vocals, and atmospheric production with modern R&B textures. Guest appearances from Brandy, Pharrell Williams, John Mayer, Sean Leon, and Jacob Collier add further depth and stylistic diversity to the project.

Among the standout tracks is "Love Again" featuring Brandy, a heartfelt duet about heartbreak and the possibility of reconciliation that later earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance. Other highlights include "Cyanide," which incorporates reggae influences, "Superposition," featuring guitar work by John Mayer, and "Frontal Lobe Muzik," a collaboration with Pharrell Williams that embraces a more experimental sound. Songs such as "Open Up," "Too Deep to Turn Back," and "Are You OK?" further explore vulnerability, emotional healing, and self-reflection.

They watched their city from a distance reconstructing its energy from their studio in Berlin, calibrating the synths on the meridian of Vesuvius, the volcano that has always protected and threatened Napoli.
NUOVA NAPOLI is the result of a long musical research that has become a historical investigation on the sound that shaped Napoli during the ‘70s and ‘80s, starting from the contamination of genres (disco, jazz-funk, African rhythms) which ended up in Nu Guinea’s DNA.

A modern masterpiece of Japanese spiritual jazz and modal jazz, "Fukushima" quickly became a sensation among jazz fans around the world. The 2020 live recording "Informel," which served as its prototype, has been reconstructed and remastered for its first-ever release on analog format.

Based in Tokyo, saxophone and flute player Shinsuke Fujieda's group recorded the live album "informel" in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the album originally released in 2021. Originally an ambitious 2CD + DVD set, this landmark work has been reconstructed from a contemporary perspective, remastered, and now released on vinyl in a deluxe edition. Following the excitement of "Fukushima," a contemporary Japanese spiritual jazz and modal jazz studio recording released in 2025 that quickly drew attention from jazz fans around the world, this album captures the historic moment that gave rise to "Fukushima."

Featuring live painting performed simultaneously with the music throughout the concert, this approximately 73-minute epic is packed with performances that capture the energy, depth, and emotion unique to a live setting. From the visceral, almost primal modal jazz of "Fukushima," performed here for the first time, to the approximately 19-minute tour de force "Gentle Erosion," the gradually intensifying "Informel," driven by a looping rhythm, the classical-leaning "Nobody Knows," where light string textures intertwine with soprano saxophone and piano, and the buoyant "Parade," the album is filled with the dynamic vitality of a live performance. Listening to the sound, one can feel that the prototype of "Fukushima" had already taken shape at this point. The reconstructed version of "informel" created specifically for this vinyl release reveals that it is not simply a prototype or straightforward reissue, but rather the starting point of a swirling mass of sound within the larger musical lineage Shinsuke Fujieda Group has developed since the Covid-19 pandemic. While "Fukushima" is a meticulously crafted studio recording, "informel" forms its counterpart with the dynamic, ever-moving sound that can only emerge from a live performance.

More than four years in the making, Tiki Shack Recording Studios AKA Smiling C Records & Mike Patricola present Pipe Dreams — a compilation of sidewalk surf bands, tropical troubadours, and soothing sounds from just beyond the reef.

Compiled by Mike Patricola, Pipe Dreams is the culmination of years spent exchanging obscure recordings, pursuing a shared feeling, and uncovering a sub-genre of overlooked songs that could be woven into a story of surf, snorkel, and sun. Drawn from Patricola's collection, the compilation aims to capture the feeling of endless summer, and serves as an ode to the freedom of island living: Bikini-shaped sunburns, coconut stands closed due to perfect swells, slack guitars, perpetual sunsets, guppies darting through shallow water, and afternoons spent face-down in the sand.

Spanning the late 1970s through the mid 1980s, Pipe Dreams gathers forgotten pop, lounge, soft rock, AOR, disco, and private-press oddities into a time capsule that seeks to epitomize an era that existed before life became mediated by screens. One in which technology was more naive and society was less reliant upon it. Time moved slower, people were better able to connect with their surroundings, and the dream of moving to a coastal utopia felt more attainable.

Each side unfolds as its own chapter.

Side A begins with Midwestern lettermen The Sunset Kidds, whose hypnagogic harmonies on “Darlin’” evoke the Beach Boys mired in the post-summer doldrums. Australia's Simplex 2 follow with the previously unreleased “Tiger Bay”, capturing the slow pulse of a perfect beach day through low end groove. Don Moore's infectious “Water Lily” arrives via a romantic Fire Island love affair, while Cay Gottlieb contributes a dose of Bahamian Balearica. To close the side out, Tennessee crooner Ron Holmes delivers an extra dose of salt on the margarita rim for good measure.

Side B shifts into a more upbeat surf-disco and pub-rock mode. Montreal’s Dino Pacifici’s nostalgic ode to carefree summers long passed, followed by Marseille's own The Students "Ocean Lifestyle" — which sits somewhere between Shuggie Otis and The Stranglers. Another Montréalais artist Pierre Rochette delivers a chuggy surf-disco belter, while Special Edition Band ventures from boozy rock into a washed-out paradise with glistening guitars.

Side C serves as an ode to tropical troubadours — intimate songs that range from drum machine lounge to private island bedroom recordings. Japan's Twin Cosmos, actual identical twins, dream up beachfront breezes on "Coconuts Wind." Hawaiian songwriter Dennis Soares offers the delicate and deeply personal "One World," while Ossie Parker Jr. supplies some Bahamian barroom sophistication. Miles Corbin brings sounds straight from the tiki hut, and lounge lizard Glen Banks takes us into the final intermission with a lullaby live from the Coconut Grove.

Side D catches a wave back in. Meri-Lynn & The Key Lime Pie Band celebrate the Florida Key life, Dennis Soares returns for one final Hawaiian postcard, and the Latin band Acapulco contribute a hefty dose of sunny positivity akin to one of Brian Wilson’s cheerier tunes. To round it out, Rick Sharp injects a touch of Bossa cheek and fantasy, and British pub blokes Contrast steer the compilation back toward where it all began — a destination somewhere between a Beach Boy California paradise, a remote oceanside lounge for loners, and a sleazy coastal timeshare.

Pressed on vinyl in a deluxe die-cut, spot-glossed gatefold jacket featuring artwork by our man Charles Bals and cover “Breaking Wave” photo by Lex Thompson. Pipe Dreams is designed as both a listening experience and an object of escape. Drop the needle, lean back, and let the tide carry you away.

Pilgrim's Paradise is Daniel Caesar's second EP, released independently on November 12, 2015. While Freudian (2017) became his commercial breakthrough, Pilgrim's Paradise is widely considered the project that established his artistic identity. Blending contemporary R&B, neo-soul, gospel, folk, and jazz influences, the seven-track EP introduced the intimate songwriting, spiritual themes, and emotionally rich vocal performances that would later define his career.

The EP was created during a formative period in Caesar's life as he reflected on faith, love, identity, and personal growth. Growing up in a deeply religious household, he often found himself navigating the tension between spirituality and human desire, a theme that runs throughout the project. Rather than presenting straightforward love songs, Pilgrim's Paradise explores vulnerability, loneliness, redemption, and the search for inner peace. Its title reflects the idea of life as a spiritual journey, with "pilgrimage" serving as a metaphor for self-discovery and emotional healing.

Musically, the EP is understated and organic. Built around warm piano, subtle guitar arrangements, sparse percussion, and layered harmonies, the production creates an intimate atmosphere that allows Caesar's expressive vocals to take center stage. Frequent collaborators Matthew Burnett and Jordan Evans helped shape the project's sound, while Toronto jazz collective BADBADNOTGOOD appears on "Paradise" alongside Sean Leon, adding a richer instrumental texture.

Among the standout tracks, "Death & Taxes" examines the inevitability of hardship and the desire for purpose, while "Paradise" reflects on the tension between temptation and salvation. "Streetcar," a reimagining of Kanye West's "Street Lights" from 808s & Heartbreak, has become one of Caesar's most beloved songs, transforming the original into a soulful, acoustic meditation on change, loss, and acceptance. The EP closes with "Little Rowboat," a gentle and hopeful conclusion that reinforces the themes of perseverance and emotional resilience.

Although Pilgrim's Paradise was released independently and received limited mainstream attention at first, it earned widespread critical praise and helped Daniel Caesar build a devoted following through word of mouth and streaming platforms. The project was longlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize, and songs such as "Streetcar" and "Paradise" remain fan favorites. More importantly, the EP laid the artistic foundation for Freudian, which would propel Caesar to international recognition two years later.

Curió Curió came to flight by chance. Two artists, Rio-born, Austria-based singer and actress Luiza Monteiro and German producer Dustin Braun, had separately reached a fork in their journeys. An opportune encounter soon blossomed into an uplifting, heartfelt Brazilian MPB-groove project shaped by psychedelic disco and studio experimentation. In their own words Curió Curió’s sonic vision “is not straight disco, not straight samba, not strictly old-school but inspired by all of them, creating something contemporary but still nostalgic”. A modern fusion influenced as much by Gal Costa and Jorge Ben Jor as Say She She and Bala Desejo, their sound deftly plots a course all of its own. A celebration of freedom, movement, love and life, intertwined with introspective moments of reflection. Treating tradition as something alive, migratory and unresolved, the album is not simply bound by a shared love of Brazilian music, but by a deeper question that runs through every track; where does one belong when home becomes plural? As a Brazilian living in Europe, Luiza's lyrics explore themes of identity, culture, and existence. The tracks move between cities and emotional registers without settling, tracing a sense of identity that shifts rather than resolves. Songs like ‘Amor Doente’ and ‘Mar sem Dar Pé’ circle around relationships that resist clarity, while ‘Menina Passarinho’ captures the fear and necessity of committing to music as a path. For Luiza, deepening her commitment to music alongside years in theatre was both inevitable and difficult. Braun’s production follows a similar logic. Initial ideas were often built without obvious reference points, only later incorporating rhythmic and vocal elements that hint at Brazil without reproducing it. Analogue techniques, tape, ribbon microphones and live ensemble recording bring a tactile quality that reflects the duo’s interest in process as much as outcome. Highlights include ‘Bem Querer’, built on an authentic samba street vibe with a super-catchy sing-along chorus, and ‘Vem pra Casa’ with its cosmic-tinged Brazilian boogie flavour. The album closes with ‘A Cor do Meu Sonho’, a quiet act of insistence. A refusal to shrink in unfamiliar environments, and a belief in the strength of difference. It is less a conclusion than a continuation, leaving the central question open. “I started to understand that I can belong to many places at once”, Luiza reflects. “And that can be something to embrace”. Lyrics from the song ‘Raiz’ translate in English to “I value a burning sun and the cold in the air. Constant change is my companion”. With Curió Curió, that idea is lived through sound, story and collaboration. A debut that feels both searching and assured, grounded in heritage yet shaped by distance.

"The Spice of Life" is the second studio album by American singer Marlena Shaw and was originally released on Cadet Records in 1969. Today, the album is regarded as a timeless classic, masterfully blending soul, jazz, funk and blues. Tracks from the album have been widely sampled and have also featured in numerous commercials and even video games. The album includes two of Shaw’s best-known recordings: "California Soul", written by the legendary duo Ashford & Simpson, and "Woman of the Ghetto", a politically charged song co-written by Shaw herself. The latter has been covered and sampled countless times. Producers and arrangers Richard Evans and Charles Stepney were responsible for the album’s rich, orchestral sound and driving rhythms. Transamericas reissues Atom™’s Kraftwerk-goes-chachachá classic After 25 years out of print, El Baile Alemán — the cult album by Señor Coconut (one of Atom™’s many aliases) — returns on vinyl via Transamericas. What began as a half-joke (“The only way I’d cover Kraftwerk is as chachachá or death metal…”) became a fever-born epiphany: Kraftwerk’s electronic minimalism recast through a tropical imagination — where chachachá, mambo, and cumbia intertwine with glitch, breakbeats, and distressed samples. Long before reggaeton and trap filled stadiums and playlists, Señor Coconut was already mapping the fault lines between Latin rhythm and electronic form. Originally released in Japan in 2000, El Baile Alemán caught the ear of Kraftwerk’s Florian Schneider, who unexpectedly championed the project. This reissue has been cut from Atom™’s 2022 remasters, preserving the album’s detail for a new generation of listeners. In the second half of 2026, Transamericas will also reissue El Gran Baile (1997), his first outing — a rawer but equally idiosyncratic fusion of what Atom™ was going to frame as electrolatino.

Welcome to Volume 8 of the Mr Bongo Record Club series, our in-house curated compilations that give us a chance to share some of our favourite tracks, hard-fought finds, and unsung gems. These are tracks that have been inspiring us at home, in the office, while DJing, and on the dancefloor.

In the cross-genre spirit of the series, for Volume 8 we have selected music from the worlds of soul, boogie, disco-reggae, jazz-funk, and Latin, with a hefty chunk of beloved Brazilian music. Pulling these compilations together is always a highlight of our year, and eight volumes in, we feel this is one of our strongest to date.

The album’s journey begins with a heartfelt epic by As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã, from the Bahian town of Itapuã. It’s an area of Brazil that holds a special place in David ‘Mr Bongo’ Buttle’s heart, and where he first met our dear friend, Luciano Rodrigues Dos Santos, to whose memory this compilation is dedicated to.

Staying in Northern Brazil, next up is a contemporary dancefloor gem by Ubunto, a DJ and producer from Salvador, which also features As Ganhadeiras de Itapuã. The raw, dusty, punchy sounds of zabumba drummer Castanheiro and the furious guitar-heavy dancer by Tyaraju & Dutra are just two more examples of the Brazilian beauties included on the compilation.

There is also a heavy dose of soul music on this volume. The Canadian-gospel sounds of Trevor Dandy, a modern-soul rarity by Wil Collins & Willpower (which has been on our list for years), and a soul-stepper masterpiece by Tommy McGee, are just a handful of the highlights. Not stopping there, we are incredibly proud to present an exclusive rework of The Sylvers' ‘Wish That I Could Talk To You’ by the legendary Kenny Dope. Kenny has excelled himself with this one, fattening up the drums while bringing more drama to the horns and strings. The song now feels more contemporary yet still stays true to its roots. Complete genius!

Elsewhere on the compilation, you’ll find a cosmic reggae-not-reggae disco oddity by Tapper Zukie, a South African jazz-funk-disco groover by Mac Mathunjwa, a sought-after Brazilian compacto by Eduardo Araújo, and a Brit-funk / boogie treasure by Powerline.

Traversing time, genre, and location, all the tracks on Volume 8 are favourites for their own unique reasons. Music will forever be a constant source of comfort, able to affect you deeply in the most meaningful ways. It’s the gift that keeps giving, and there is so much more to learn, discover, and share, both old and new.

Between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s, musicians across the Dutch Caribbean islands of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten created music that crossed stylistic boundaries, forming a close-knit network shaped by common histories and identities, while rarely receiving wider recognition. From the psychedelic funk of local stars Sugar Ice Tea and Cryptus Confession to the Latin influences of visiting musicians like Puerto Rican star Mon Rivera via Surinamese-influenced soul and the garage rock of Los Honda, the islands nourished a huge array of styles and talent. Antiyano Progresivo unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly transforming Caribbean. During the twentieth century, oil industries, migration and tourism reshaped the islands, creating unparalleled cultural exchange while deepening social divisions. African, Latin American, North American and European musical traditions intertwined with local forms, producing a rich and distinctive musical landscape. Tambú, tumba, calypso and Caribbean dance music coexisted alongside soul, funk, psychedelic rock, reggae, Latin music and American and British pop. Musicians moved fluidly between these styles, developing sounds that were unmistakably local while remaining connected to wider currents across the Caribbean and beyond. The period also coincided with growing movements for cultural and political self determination. Events such as Curaçao's Trinta di Mei uprising in 1969, the emergence of Black Power movements and increasing calls for greater autonomy fostered renewed pride in African heritage, local languages and cultural expression. These ideas resonated through music, inspiring artists to challenge conventions and create work that reflected changing identities.

The "Discoteca Tropicana" 12" by Discoteca Tropicana is released on Selva Discos and brings together four original compositions that celebrate the rhythms that have shaped Brazilian disco: a mix of swinging arrangements and tropical flair aimed squarely at lighting up the dancefloor.

The project is the result of a collaboration between Kiko Costato, the enfant terrible of the Brazilian scene, and Zé Nigro, a producer and multi-instrumentalist with two Grammy Awards. For the recordings, Costato and Nigro recruited some of Brazil’s most distinguished studio musicians as well as pioneers of the country’s Black music scene, including backing vocalists who regularly work with Gilberto Gil. This mix of personnel contributes to the stylistic diversity of the EP.

Musically, the record moves between classic disco aesthetics and regional Brazilian patterns: “Corpos Celestes” leans on orchestral string arrangements and a big grand piano, like the glamorous opening to a night out; “Corpo Treme” is a sweat‑drenched, carimbó‑driven track with a vuco‑vuco vibe; “Tobina” links Brazilian swing with African vocal forms and distinctive guitar work in an afoxé feel; and finally, “Não Pode Acabar” is the urban dancefloor hit that works equally well as a set opener or as a furious set closer.

The clear production, the selection of seasoned accompanying musicians, and the thematic range make the "Discoteca Tropicana" 12" a compact, well‑balanced homage to the fusion of Brazilian tradition and disco sensibility.

The crystal clear vinyl edition of the “The Art Of Space Disco (1977-1978) - Best Of” LP by Space has been released by Because Music and brings together the most distinctive tracks from the band’s early period. Space was founded in 1977 by Didier Marouani; their debut single “Magic Fly” embodies the band’s futuristic DNA and made the group famous worldwide. In 1977 and 1978 they released three albums — “Magic Fly,” “Deliverance,” and “Just Blue” — characterized by melodic density, synth-driven innovation, and at times large-scale orchestral arrangements, which together sold more than ten million copies.

This release comes as a 1LP on crystal clear vinyl and, in addition to “Magic Fly,” offers four exclusive edits: “Carry On, Turn Me On” (edit), “My Love Is Music” (edit), “Deliverance” (edit), and “Running In The City” (edit). All tracks have been newly remastered by Alex Gopher; the vinyl comes in a 3 mm-spine sleeve (CMYK + Pantone 877 C) with printed inner sleeve and marketing sticker, plus exclusive liner notes by Jean-Yves Leloup. The accompanying double CD contains the original versions, two additional tracks (“Symphony,” “Velvet Rape”), as well as eight remixes previously unreleased on physical formats, produced in 2026 by artists whose careers were influenced by Space.

The "Song Of Songs" LP by Woody Shaw is released on Craft.

The album brings together idiosyncratic compositions by the bandleader that range from ballad-like moments to freer, almost experimental passages. Particularly striking is the lineup featuring multiple tenor saxophones and flute, which makes the textures denser and more changeable than in classic hard bop settings; the pieces range from the introspective track "Love: For the One You Can't Have" to the open structure of "The Awakening."

Contributors such as George Cables on piano and Bennie Maupin on tenor sax and bass clarinet play a crucial role in shaping the texture; the ensemble is completed by Ramon Morris, Emanuel Boyd, Henry Franklin, and Woody Theus II, who provide the rhythmic and tonal foundation. The arrangements link modal sequences with sophisticated melodic lines, giving Shaw as a soloist room for expanded harmony and tonally adventurous developments.

Musically, the record can be placed somewhere between hard bop, modal improvisation, and avant-garde influences; here Woody Shaw displays his characteristic combination of lyrical expression and harmonic boldness that made him one of the defining trumpeters of his generation.

A new solo album from Seu Jorge reveals his 'other side' on this new solo album featuring Beck and Maria Rita. Produced by Mario Caldato Jr. (Beastie Boys), the album moves between jazz and bossa nova and is the result of a 16-year musical journey.
Seu Jorge is ready to present to the world the most ambitious project of his international career. After 16 years in the making, “The Other Side” finally arrives on streaming platforms in May. A departure from the soul and samba that defined his solo career, the new album is a sophisticated orchestral celebration of Brazilian music, moving between jazz and bossa nova.

The seed for this meeting between the Brazilian soul and orchestral sophistication was planted by a longtime friend and admirer: the legendary producer Mario Caldato Jr., known for his work with the Beastie Boys and Jack Johnson. The partnership, however, goes back further. “It’s not often that you find a voice and talent as vibrant and powerful as Seu Jorge’s. That’s what I felt in 1999, when I met him in Los Angeles,” recalls Caldato. “Since then, our friendship and admiration have only grown, allowing us to create music together with total freedom.”

The spark for “The Other Side” came from a moment of pure sensitivity. “This album was born when I recorded Jorge playing a simple version of ‘Girl You Move Me,’ by the band Cane and Able, on a nylon-string guitar. The performance was very sensitive and dynamic, which moved me deeply,” says the producer.

It was then that Caldato had the idea to invite multi-instrumentalist and arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson to orchestrate that demo. The partnership, which began in 2009, blossomed organically. “I shared some ideas with Miguel, and he understood perfectly, creating a beautiful arrangement that elevated the song to a much more luxurious and sophisticated dimension. That experience planted the seed for this orchestral adventure. "

With his characteristically deep, velvety voice, Seu Jorge guides the listener through a repertoire that revives gems of MPB. The artist cites as references the catalog of the German label ECM Records and the arrangements of Claus Ogerman, a conductor who worked with Tom Jobim and João Gilberto.

Recorded in stages between 2009 and 2018, the album is a true work of musical
craftsmanship, created with calm and friendship. The live rhythmic foundations were
provided by Seu Jorge’s band. “Jorge has a lot of confidence in and pride for his musicians, allowing them to express themselves freely. Each one brings a special flavor to every song; this was their album too, ” notes Caldato Jr.

“It was a week of pure joy for me and for all of us, recording and capturing that magical spirit and vibe,” adds the producer, who saw the work come together with arrangements by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. “When it came time for mixing, everything felt very natural. The album revealed itself and came together magnificently. For me, it’s a timeless album.”

The album features covers of songs such as “Crença” by Milton Nascimento (from his 1969 debut album); “Caboclo” by Arthur Verocai, in a version with psychedelic guitars; and, of course, “Girl You Move Me” by the Canadian band Cane & Able, which inspired the project. Among the tracks featuring guest artists, “Vento de Maio” by Márcio Borges (a hit with Lô Borges and Elis Regina) features an intense duet with Maria Rita. Another major collaboration is with American singer Beck, a self-proclaimed fan of Brazilian music and Grammy winner. Together, they perform “River Man” by the revered British singer Nick Drake.

The “Music Is Invisible (Pentimento Volume Three)” LP by Jon Hassell was released on Ndeya and forms the third part of the Pentimento trilogy. Recorded on May 23, 2015, at St John at Hackney Church in London during Hassell’s final live concert, the release documents the joint performance with Rick Cox and John von Seggern.

Themes, motifs, and striking riffs from Hassell’s previous albums “Listening To Pictures” and “Seeing Through Sound” run through the recordings and are reshaped in semi-improvised variations. The pieces balance composed passages and freer development, with the chamber-like spatial acoustics of the church recording contributing to the sonic architecture. Jon Hassell and his long-time companion Jeff Rona carefully mixed and edited the material. Their mix preserves the performance’s dynamics and brings improvisational details clearly to the fore.

As an LP on Ndeya, “Music Is Invisible (Pentimento Volume Three)” sits stylistically in the realm of jazz/fusion and concludes the renaissance of the Pentimento series in the late phase of Hassell’s career. The release focuses on the development of his final works and gathers thematically related approaches into a concentrated live document. It presents the thematic threads of his late albums as focused live takes on them.

The “High Spirits” LP by The Joe Harriott Quintet was released on Fontana and presents the quintet in a more melodic, straight-ahead context: arranged by Pat Smythe, the album interprets compositions from the musical “High Spirits” by Hugh Martin and Timothy Gray, with a focus on concise themes and clear ensemble interaction. Joe Harriott’s distinctive alto saxophone remains at the center throughout, while Shake Keane on trumpet and flugelhorn repeatedly adds his own distinctive accents. The arrangements leave space for precise solos and rhythmic interplay, allowing the melodic side of the tunes to come clearly to the fore.

Recorded in September 1964 at Lansdowne Studios, the release documents these experienced jazz musicians’ blend of seasoned assurance and high artistic standards in handling show material: Pat Smythe on piano structures the accompaniment, while Coleridge Goode on bass and Bobby Orr on drums provide a solid, finely nuanced foundation. Produced by Denis Preston, “High Spirits” presents the quintet in a straightforward, sonically well-balanced performance that highlights both the compositional substance of the musical originals and the improvisational prowess of the band members. With this LP, Fontana contributes a concise chapter to Joe Harriott’s discography that underscores the versatility of his quintet.

The LP "Chopping Mountain HHV Exclusive Green & White Splatter Vinyl Edition" showcases the sixth full-length album by Ibibio Sound Machine and marks the clearest realization yet of the London collective’s long-standing mission to promote love, unity, and resistance through music. Max Grunhard once again takes on the producer role here, for the first time since "Doko Mien" (2019), giving the material an immediate, internally driven dramaturgy and tightly interweaving the production with the band’s musical roots.

Eno Williams’s voice remains the unifying element: she switches between English and Ibibio, serving both as a powerful presence on the dance floor and as an urgent call to action. Tracks like "Return to Sender" — inspired by a personal accident — work as cathartic, body-centered numbers; "Concept of Love" pushes the Afro-disco impulse, while "Love" revels in ethereal highlife. Many songs grew out of jam sessions that centered on groove, instrumentation, and lyrics.

The band operates as a tightly knit eight-piece collective: Grunhard (saxophone, keyboards), Alfred Bannerman (guitar), PK Ambrose (bass, keyboards), Joseph Amoako (drums), Afla Sackey (percussion), Scott Baylis (trumpet, keyboards), and Tony Hayden (trombone, synth) construct monumental sonic architectures around Williams’s lead. Guest appearances such as Dele Sosimi on "Give Me Peace" underscore the Afro-centered aura. The recordings and mixes largely come from the band’s own Vanguard Studios in London; production and creative direction are handled by Max Grunhard.

Twenty years after forming in Tommy Brenneck's Bushwick apartment, Menahan Street Band returns with Illusions, their fourth full-length album on Brenneck's Diamond West Records. The band_ Tommy Brenneck, Dave Guy, Nick Movshon, Leon Michels and Homer Steinweiss_have each pursued an array of projects in the years since. Brenneck has produced for Baby Rose, Rogê and Kirby, toured with The Budos Band and runs Diamond West Records and Studio. Guy plays trumpet with The Roots and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and has released his own solo album; Steinweiss has made his own solo record and, with Movshon, has worked across multiple platinum album projects; and Michels continues as El Michels Affair, runs Big Crown Records and has produced Grammy-winning and nominated albums for Clairo and Norah Jones. Despite their many individual ventures, the group reunited with an energy Brenneck says felt like "the first time." Recorded quickly and instinctively, Illusions blends Menahan's signature guitar, horns and drums with arrangements by Brazilian legend Arthur Verocai, taking listeners on an instrumental travelogue that lets the mind wander. Artist Ariana Papademetropoulos contributes original artwork to the album's otherworldly collection of music.

"Floating into our inbox on the East winds came a mysterious bunch of tracks by a mesmerising new act called Curió Curió, which we simply couldn’t ignore. Named after a vibrant Brazilian songbird, Curió Curió consists of singer, lyricist, and actress Luiza Monteiro, based in Austria, and producer and musician Dustin Braun from Germany. Together, the duo brings a fresh voice and a twist on MPB, taking influences from 1970s Brazil and blending them into a modern fusion of psychedelic, MPB, disco, and samba.

Curió Curió’s vocalist, Luiza Monteiro, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and raised listening to the rich sounds of MPB. She started taking classical singing lessons weekly by the age of 14, and later developed a career in acting, skills of which she brings with her into her songwriting. You may be familiar with Dustin’s production through his recent collaborations with the Turkish artist Peki Momés on Mocambo Records, or by his earlier incarnations, including a neo-soul release on Sichtexot and projects with Village Live Records and HHV's record label. His music has a tangible analogue warmth and a feeling of a real band performing live.

For this 7-inch release, ‘Bem Querer’ (‘Beloved’ in English) takes the A side. In it, Luiza calls a missed love to come close and dance with her. Even without an understanding of Portuguese, this feeling and energy radiates throughout the production; one of partying together, loving each other, living in ecstasy, feeling pleasure, and freedom. Built on an authentic samba street vibe with a super catchy sing-along chorus, that collective, carnival energy comes in part due to the choir that Dustin and Luiza assembled. A group of Brazilian friends, some of whom Dustin met whilst DJing in Leipzig, joined together in the studio. Half of them were non-professional singers, bringing that organic atmosphere of Rio’s streets to the recording.

The B-side ‘Amor Doente’ has a more bitter-sweet taste; the song speaks playfully about a relationship that goes on without really developing. Both parties cannot fully commit to each other, but they are also unable to end it. The production, however, has a delicious loose funk groove, sun-soaked and sultry. Dustin wrote the instrumental with Lucy Liebe, who joins on bass, guitar, synths, and trumpet, with Max Löbner also featuring on trumpet. A track that is equally adept at warming up a dancefloor as it is closing out a night.

We were genuinely blown away by the vibrancy and joy of this new project when we first heard it, instantly feeling like a familiar friend. In the band's own words, “Curió Curió is not straight disco, not straight samba, not strictly old-school but inspired by all of them, creating something contemporary but still nostalgic"".

The “O Mensageiro” 7" by Trio Ternura is aimed at listeners, DJs, and collectors interested in rare gems from the history of Brazilian pop and soul.

Trio Ternura, a true family project made up of three siblings, released several 7-inch singles with exclusive material in addition to a number of albums; “Razão De Ser” (1972) is one of these tracks and combines sophisticated vocal harmonies with influences from soul and Brazilian rhythms. This soulful track appears on the B-side, while the A-side presents “O Mensageiro” as an uptempo, catchy song whose driving grooves and concise melodic lines make it a strong choice for the dance floor.

The “O Mensageiro” 7" by Trio Ternura on Vampisoul documents a small, previously hard-to-access facet of the group and adds two single-exclusive gems to the band’s reissues. The new edition makes these rare tracks audible again and deliberately highlights the musical range of Trio Ternura.

The compilation “A La Altura: Visionary Mexican Music 1977–1999 – Volume 1 Black Vinyl Edition” brings together on a double LP visionary sonic explorations by Mexican musicians who connect electronic and indigenous instruments with minimal music, ambient, jazz, and new age aesthetics. The project features 13 contributors, including Ana Ruiz, Oxomaxoma, Gerardo Bátiz, Antonio Zepeda, and Airwaves, and includes four previously unreleased tracks that are presented here for the first time. The selection was curated and produced by Carlos “Tropicaza” Icaza and Mark “Frosty” McNeill; audio work was handled by GRAMMY®-nominated engineer John Baldwin, who carefully remastered the original tapes.

With this collection, Light In The Attic presents a carefully crafted album featuring cover artwork by Eduardo Terrazas, with design and layout by D.Norsen Design. The release appears as an LP with a booklet and extensive liner notes, produced as a double LP and pressed at Optimal. “A La Altura” is conceived as part of a broader engagement with Mexican experimental music from 1977–1999; Volume 1 documents one segment of this panorama and makes the scene’s creative range audible to an international audience.

The orange vinyl edition of the "Os Tincoas" LP by Os Tincoas is being released on Music On Vinyl; the 180-gram pressing is limited to 1,000 individually numbered copies and marks the first regular vinyl availability of the album since 1980.

The "Teodros Makonnen With His Organ" double LP by Teodros Makonnen is released on Muzikawi and marks the first official reissue of this work. The recordings have been carefully restored and remastered and are now available as a gatefold double LP that reproduces the original cover art; the set includes extensive liner notes in English and Amharic as well as previously unpublished photographs from the archive of Teferi “Bibisha” Mengesha.

Musically, the record documents an early, bold use of electronic means in Ethiopian music. The tracks originally existed only on cassette and were recorded live in a single take on a Yamaha dual keyboard in the apartment of a Saudi Arabian diplomat in Addis Ababa; the result blends traditional melodies with atmospheric drum-machine patterns and hypnotic organ synthesizers. This experimental approach makes the album a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s early digital sound language.

Teodros Makonnen appears here as keyboardist, arranger, and sound designer; his trajectory spans formal training at the Yared School of Music to long-standing engagements with bands such as Dahlak and the Shebele Ensemble. His role as a pioneer of electronic sequencing in Addis Ababa and his collaborations with major figures like Mulatu Astatke, Aster Aweke, and Mahmoud Ahmed define his profile and explain the special status of this album within the history of Ethiopian music.

The “All Right!” 12" by Isao Suzuki is issued on Three Blind Mice and presents material that documents Suzuki as a bandleader and is connected to his time with Three Blind Mice.

Musically, the program operates in the tension between modern jazz and fusion-inflected colors: the compositions combine acoustic bass with dense electric textures, soulful melodies, and occasional vocal interjections. Sonny Clark recorded a series of sublime piano trio dates for Blue Note that focused entirely on standards from the Great American Songbook and leading jazz composers of the day as heard on the new 2-LP set "The Art Of The Trio." Recorded over three sessions at Rudy Van Gelder's Hackensack studio: in October 1957 with bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones, in November with bassist Jymie Merritt and drummer Wes Landers, and again in December with Chambers and Landers. Those two latter recordings, along with alternate takes from the Sonny Clark Trio session from October, would later be released in Japan as "Blues In The Night and The Art Of The Trio," and are compiled into a single vinyl package for the first time here along with a booklet featuring new liner notes by Syd Schwartz, original liner notes by Ben Sidran and Bob Porter, and never-before-seen photos by Francis Wolff.
