DJ Koze might be one of the world's best producers, but above all he's a DJ, and it's his DJ ear that governs. Just as in a great set, so with his releases: "Seeing Aliens" came out of nowhere, a big buzzing beast of a track, to announce that Koze was back on the scene and prime everyone for the coming album, knock knock. But now that Koze has your attention, it's time to remind everyone what's most important about club music, pull things back, take a turn to the left, and get deep into the groove. Thus "Pick Up": the second single from knock knock is 100% pure groove, doubly so in the extended 12" version. In a sense it's incredibly familiar - it is essentially a filter disco record, very close to something you could imagine coming out of Paris around the turn of the millennium. But of course, this is Koze. Nothing is normal or familiar in his world, and he's taken this most foundational of clubland staples into new territory. Flipping samples of Gladys Knight & the Pips "Neither One Of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" and Melba Moore's "Pick Me Up, I'll Dance", it creates something completely airborne, shot through with emotions such as gods must feel: not quite explicable to the human mind but strong enough to knock you off your feet. In its way it's absolutely as powerful as "Seeing Aliens", but it comes in like the proverbial iron fist in a glove of velvet. The flip, a ten-minute new track, "The Love Truck" is a big contrast again. If "Pick Up" is giddy flight, "The Love Truck" is woozy floating. Its sharp, clicking percussion recalls 2000s minimal techno, but this time absolutely nothing is generic. The long, intense, on-and-off bass tones, the flickers of birdsong, the pure voices slipping in backwards as if from the future... it's all like the most blissful dream, and culminates in a coda so subtle yet so beautiful it's like ever time you've ever seen the sun rise and thought "I never want this to end", all the while understanding deep down that the fleeting nature of the pleasure is also what give it its power. But of course, being created with that consummate DJ's ear, it's also full of the thrill of wondering what Koze has in store next.

The “B4u & Tripidi EP” by Joseph (CH), released on Pampa, brings together two complementary tracks whose production and song structure clearly stem from a single underlying concept. On the A-side, “B4U” (8:00) appears as a spacious yet tightly sculpted track; its composition combines dramatic soundscapes with restrained, otherworldly voices. The B-side presents “Tripidi” (7:28), built around buoyant, booty-shaking grooves and a distinctively coded bassline typically associated with JOSEPH.

All tracks were written and produced by Joseph Blandford; mastering was handled by Hans Frage at Deinklang, giving the pressing a clearly defined tonal balance. The arrangements rely on a play between narrative, almost cinematic passages and dance-oriented elements, which makes the EP suited both to DJ sets and to focused listening.

Stylistically, Joseph (CH) stands out through a blend of narrative density and danceable directness: concise bass motifs, subtle melodic details, and a finely tuned sense of groove define his signature. The “B4u & Tripidi EP” thus positions itself as a compact statement within the Pampa catalog and documents the unmistakable touch of a producer who fuses club-oriented energy with meticulous atmospheric detail.

The illusive Impérieux ventures into the fantastical world of DJ Koze’s Pampa with three tracks of masterful, genre-bending electronica.

It’s little wonder that the Turkish/Bulgarian native finds himself coming into the orbit of the Hamburg-based label head. DJ Koze has been a long-time supporter of Impérieux’s music, his intrepid DJ sets often finding their most dramatic peaks or existential lows with one of the producer's audacious dancefloor soundscapes.

Now Berlin-based, Impérieux’s music draws deeply on the sounds of his heritage, taking inspirations from Bulgarian folklore, twisted and chopped Turkish dialect as well the gritty underground of his new surroundings.

Released on Pampa, the LP "Venq Tolep" by Robag Wruhme brings together a concise, carefully arranged set of electronic pieces and was issued in 2019. The record continues the line of his previous work, combining club-ready rhythms with melodic flourishes and a clear love of detail in the sound design.

Here Robag Wruhme works with fragmented samples, precisely edited percussion elements, and warm analog synth motifs; at certain moments, organic sounds and minimalist harmonies move into the foreground. The arrangements open up the space between beat and song, allowing hooks and subtle harmonic progressions to stand out clearly. On the textual level, occasional voices and sampled phrases add additional layers without overloading the compositional fabric.

The LP includes eleven tracks, among them "Venq Tolep" as well as the duet "Nata Alma" with Sidsel Endresen and Bugge Wesseltoft; it also features "Bézique Atout," a contribution with Oxia. Such collaborations play a key role in the album’s sonic variety while at the same time anchoring it in an expanded musical cosmos. "Venq Tolep" marks Robag Wruhmes return to Pampa after several years and continues his series of precise yet playful productions.

The Artist Concurrently Known As Jackmate has been already been indoctrinated into our cult since he signed onto he Pampa bookings roster awhile back. As SoulPhiction he is also co-founder of Philpot, the Stuttgart-based label, home to the majority of his releases over the past 10+ years. Anyway, we get the privilege of stamping the Turkey logo on SoulPhiction's first proper release of 2013, following his remixes for Murat Tepeli and Detroit Swindle. "When Radio Was Boss" is a tribute to those magical electromagnetic waves that ruled yesteryear. With that prototypical Pampa percussion-rattling and clanking its way into the room-and a warm, round bassline bounce combined with some symphonic froth in the atmosphere, this track definitely demands airplay. On the dancefloor, at least! (And right in the middle of the track, catch the pleasantly jarring shout-out from Wbau, the call sign of the defunct New York radio station that counted members of Public Enemy and hosts of Yo! MTV Raps amongst its staff.) On the flip, the bpm gets cranked down just a bit for "Maybachswagger"-If the A-side is a tribute to radio, the B has roller-skating on its mind. Starting out spooky with a sampled voice cooing over a slightly detuned bassline, the surprise comes in the final third, when a kawaii disco vibe drops in, seducing you onto the rink for a few laid-back laps.

DJ Koze’s 2013 album opus Amygdala has continued to bewitch all who encounter it since its release. Tipped as his own personal Sgt. Pepper, the sublime long-player revealed a fully-realised and personal body of work, complete with a classic songwriting at its core, House in its heart, and veins coursing with psychedelic color. “La Duquesa” was the album’s dreamy single standout, a journey into deep, tropical ecstasy. “XTC” begins in the same spirit, and captures the all the blissful allusions of its name, but its initial gentility belies the deep intensity to come. Floating pads glow with celestial ambience as a kick drum is gradually coaxed into solid form, and the introduction of spoken text begins the second act. “Many people are experimenting with the drug Ecstasy,” it says, “…is the drug like the lie and meditation the truth? Or am I missing something that could really help me?". “XTC” then transforms: sweetly imploring tones become demanding, gentle gradients between chords turn hard-edged, and sharp hi-hats cut through the haze. Complete with Koze’s signature percussive quirks, it drives towards the track’s final pay off: an undeniable, all-consuming, irresistible high. “Knee On Belly” recalls Koze at his most tongue-in-cheek and overt; it is bright, bold and literally brassy, using cut-up horns of all shapes and sizes to patchwork together his own unique arrangement. With the highs and mid ranges accounted for, Koze adds in a swollen, thrumming bass line to mix to bring this floor-filler to life. “Knee on Belly” recalls a raw, filtered and funky approach to groove, with a nod to disco house and the art of artful sampling, as it orbits between its own neon highs and simmering lows.

"La Duquesa", the most tender and most refined piece of the album Amygdala, perfectly casual and serious, deep and euphoric, all at the same time, is dedicated to the Spanish Duquesa de Alba, who, as holder of 46 titles of nobility, is even more highly decorated than Queen Elisabeth. Koze is fascinated by this lady: With her peculiarly creepy appearance she seems like a relic from the past era of the Spanish nobility. She is the most pictured woman in Spain and a pop phenomenon. When, in 2011, she married a man 24 years younger than herself, the entire country badmouthed her. Sometimes Koze would love to be that younger man, who the Spaniards dismiss as a legacy hunter! Encore the needle is cookin'. Dj Koze did it again. His homage to Audrey Horne. "Burn with me" - a fucked up, deep and schizophrenic brainfoodbouncer with legato bass and hi hats way out of time. DJ Koze doesn't aim for technical perfection for its own sake, but rather to serve the purpose of giving birth to great music. On his debut 'Rue Burnout EP' from his own Pampa label, he plays with finesse and sophistication, and implicitly understands the importance of subtlety, leading from dreamy and restrained parts to a noisy frenzy at the end. 'Blume der Nacht' starts with a looped piano solo from Arabian dodecaphony, interwoven with bangs of violine bows, piercing high-pitched strings, almost shrieking glissandi, deep angel chants and obsessive sharp rhythms. The 37 year old constantly horny wunderkind producer has made a habit of creatively foiling expectations, and works also under the pseudonyms Adolf Noise, Swahimi and recently Madima Lokkah to redefine the boundaries of electronic music. This daring concept works perfectly in the title track 'Rue Burnout' - it is very rare that you find house music this excitingly light-fooded and precisely transparent. The 12" “Knock Knock Remixes” released on Pampa brings together three official reworks of tracks from the “Knock Knock” cycle, putting the focus on dance-oriented new renditions. The A-side features “Drone Me Up, Flashy” (feat. Sophia Kennedy) in an &ME remix; this is complemented by “Muddy Funster” (Mano Le Tough Fuzzy Munster Remix) and “Illumination” (feat. Róisín Murphy) in Mano Le Tough’s version. The selection emphasizes extended arrangements and remixer interventions that give the source material new rhythmic and sonic contours.

Behind the project is DJ Koze, whose work has for years explored the intersections of house, electronica, and pop-oriented song forms; his feel for melody, meticulous sample work, and subtle compositions also shapes these remixes. The participation of guest vocalists such as Sophia Kennedy, Róisín Murphy, and Kurt Wagner fuses song-driven elements with DJ and club aesthetics, while &ME and Mano Le Tough each contribute a distinctive signature ranging from hypnotic groove to off-kilter disco logic.

Released on Pampa in April 2022, the record is aimed at collectors and DJs looking for extended, clearly structured versions for mixes and sets. As a 12" format, the release is well suited for use in a club context, while also serving as a documentary complement to the album concept of “Knock Knock.”

The LP "At The Moment" by Mano Le Tough was released on the Pampa label and brings together twelve tracks that oscillate between song form and danceable moments. The record combines electronic arrangements with a clear sense of instrumental playing; acoustic and electric guitars appear alongside lively synthesizers and punchy beats, presenting the release as both a personal and versatile statement from the artist.

Musically, the album explores the intersections between house, pop, and indie-tinged structures: melancholic melodies, distinctive guitar lines, and understated vocal passages alternate with more rhythm-driven sections. A hallmark of the style is the combination of warm synth pads and live-played instruments, as well as a vocal delivery that comes across more as a fragile, narrative voice than as a classic dance performance. Critics highlighted the diverse influences and the album’s renewed closeness to song structure.

The production is handled by Niall Mannion himself: the album was created largely in his home studio in Zurich during the pandemic, where he recorded guitar, bass, vocals, and numerous synthesizers and gradually mixed the tracks. Striking details include the use of vintage-style synths, the incorporation of a sample in “Man of Aran,” and mastering by Hans‑Philipp Graf, which gives the recording a cohesive, organic sound.
