CB is Tyler’s fourth album, originally released on April 13, 2015. Tyler handled the production entirely by himself, with additional contributions from Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger. The album features guest appearances from notable artists such as Schoolboy Q, Charlie Wilson, Kali Uchis, Lil Wayne, and Pharrell Williams. It was supported by two singles: "Deathcamp" and "Fucking Young," accompanied by a music video. Despite some criticism for its chaotic nature, "Cherry Bomb" is praised for its ambition and Tyler's ability to create a unique and engaging sound. Threre’s a 43-minute documentary on YouTube with a lot of cool behind the scenes footage.

The album features production from well known artists Blockhead, Steel Tipped Dove, Aesop Rock, Busdriver and Willie Green. Artwork features images by acclaimed hip-hop photographer Alexander Richter. This reissue features new artwork for the vinyl. // When billy woods released Today, I Wrote Nothing ten years ago, it was an unexpected departure from a rapper who was just starting to make waves in the indie rap scene. After spending the earlier part of his career in the wilderness, woods had managed to crawl out of obscurity with the minor success of 2012's History Will Absolve Me. Dour Candy, 2013's collaboration with underground legend Blockhead drew accolades, which only increased with Armand Hammer's debut Race Music. Then, woods dropped out of sight for two years before returning with Today, I Wrote Nothing, a record that deviated significantly from what had come before. Where Dour Candy had been concise and focused, Tiwn was a sprawling 24 tracks. Where History Will Absolve Me was anchored by hard-hitting beats, anthemic songs, and a couple high powered features, Tiwn was comprised of short vignettes, quietly eclectic production, and the only guests were his Backwoodz label-mates. Only one video was released; the claustrophobic "Flatlands", shot on a shoestring budget in a Brooklyn housing project. Reviewers didn't know quite what to make of the record, and in many cases, neither did fans. As is often the case for woods' albums, many perspectives shifted as the years passed. Listeners came to see the sad, quiet beauty of Today, I Wrote Nothing; a road trip album that doubles as a meditation on life's journeys and death's hiding places. The album's power is in it's intimacy, it's insistence on holding your hand through the darkness. Now, Tiwn is considered one of the more unique and vital records in woods catalogue. The dynamic woods created with Tiwn vis-a-vis History Will Absolve Me and Dour Candy is one that would come to define his ouerve; constant experimentation, a refusal to be pigeonholed, and an unwavering search for the emotional heart of his subject. For us at Backwoodz, being able to repress this album on it's ten year anniversary is especially sweet, because we remember how long it took us to sell that original run of 500. To everyone who copped one of those and helped us keep the lights on, this is for you too, we couldn't have gotten here otherwise.

Originally released in 2004, MF Doom's MM..FOOD is hailed as a classic | hip-hop album full of inventive production, brilliant wordplay, and unique themes. Celebraled for its seamless blend of humor, wit, and social commentary, the album ushers listeners into a bizarre world af food-related metaphors, painting a bitterly comedic portrait of a life tainted by vice, violence, and jealousy. It was a brilliant and novel concept that gave Doom plenty of room to explore the album's subjects. Throughout MM..FOOD, Doom embeds complex ideas within seemingly simple narratives. Album opener "Beef Rapp' is a multi-pronged metaphor reminding listeners of the dangers involved in the glorification of conflict, especially within the rap game. "Hoe Cakes" borrows its name from the sweet, hot water cornmeal patties, which he uses as a symbol to rhyme about indulgence and excess. Continuing the motif, Doom uses the Madlib-produced "One Beer" to fold layers of depth about escapism and ego, while the popular "Rapp Snitch Knishes" critiques the sell-incrimination and contradictory behaviors of some rappers. Overall, MM..FOOD is both a social commentary and a piece of social satire, showcasing MF Doom'S ability to blend serious themes with his unique, playful lyrical style. In celebration of the album's 20th anniversary, MM..FOOD has been repackaged with all new artwork by Sam Rodriguez!

Released on May 25, 2018, DAYTONA is the third studio album by Virginia-born rapper Pusha T, and widely regarded as a high point in his solo career. Clocking in at a mere seven tracks and 21 minutes, the album is a distilled, razor-sharp example of hip-hop minimalism, produced entirely by Kanye West as part of his G.O.O.D. Music "Wyoming Sessions." DAYTONA marries opulent drug-rap imagery with intricate lyricism, darkly cinematic production, and a defiant tone that rejects excess while reveling in it. In an era of streaming bloated albums, DAYTONA proved that brevity and focus can hit harder than volume.

Before DAYTONA, Pusha T had already earned his reputation as a formidable lyricist. As one-half of Clipse, alongside his brother No Malice, he built a cult following through albums like Lord Willin’ (2002) and Hell Hath No Fury (2006), both celebrated for their uncompromising tales of drug trafficking and gritty realism. As a solo artist under Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music, Pusha released My Name Is My Name (2013) and King Push – Darkest Before Dawn (2015), but it was DAYTONA that captured his most focused, lean, and fully realized vision. The album’s release was also part of a larger strategy: a series of five seven-track albums produced by Kanye West in 2018, including albums by Nas, Teyana Taylor, and West himself. DAYTONA was the first and arguably the strongest of the five. At its core, DAYTONA is a celebration of Pusha T’s mastery of his lane: luxury drug rap. But beneath the surface lies a deeper exploration of authenticity, longevity, and artistic excellence. On “If You Know You Know”, Pusha uses coded language and cryptic allusions to reflect his real-life knowledge of the drug trade, crafting a song that rewards deep listening and insider understanding. The Games We Play” flaunts wealth and wisdom gained through hustling, juxtaposing opulence with underlying menace. “Hard Piano” (featuring Rick Ross) luxuriates in fine living and lyrical dexterity, a modern mafioso anthem with gospel undertones. There’s also clear disdain for artificiality in the industry. On “Infrared”, Pusha reignites his feud with Drake, alluding to ghostwriting accusations and questioning the authenticity of pop-rap stars. The track would spark Drake’s response with “Duppy Freestyle” and Pusha’s scorched-earth reply, “The Story of Adidon”, which shook the hip-hop world.

In DAYTONA, every bar feels deliberate. Pusha delivers with an almost clinical precision, never wasting words, always in control.
Kanye West’s production on DAYTONA is among his most minimalist and eerie. The beats are skeletal yet rich in texture, making space for Pusha’s vocals while maintaining an atmosphere of menace and elegance.
The use of soul and psychedelic rock samples—like the distorted guitar loop on “Come Back Baby” or the ghostly soul vocals on “Santeria”—adds layers of emotional weight.
“What Would Meek Do?” features Kanye both as a producer and guest rapper, with jittery drums and haunting loops that reflect inner turmoil and moral conflict. The rawness of the production complements the cold precision of Pusha’s delivery. It’s an exercise in sonic restraint, where every sound counts—an antidote to the overproduced clutter of many contemporary rap albums.

DAYTONA was met with widespread critical acclaim: It received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. It holds one of the highest Metacritic scores for a rap album in its release year. Publications like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian praised it for its cohesion, focus, and elite lyricism. Critics lauded Pusha for doubling down on his strengths—his vivid drug narratives, his icy confidence, and his refusal to conform to modern trends. The album also revived interest in concise, album-oriented rap projects, influencing artists to prioritize quality over streaming numbers.

In addition, DAYTONA played a pivotal role in one of hip-hop’s most dramatic beefs of the decade. Its closing track, “Infrared,” directly led to a public war of words with Drake, culminating in “The Story of Adidon”—a diss track that exposed personal secrets and arguably shifted public perception of the rap heavyweight. DAYTONA is a masterclass in how to say more by saying less. In just seven tracks, Pusha T delivers some of the most incisive, menacing, and intelligent verses of his career. With Kanye West’s stripped-down yet luxurious production, the album becomes a cold, gleaming statement piece—an artifact of rap purity in an era of noise.

More than just a drug rap record, DAYTONA is a manifesto of discipline, integrity, and endurance. It affirms Pusha T not only as a veteran but as a torchbearer for lyrical excellence, authenticity, and unapologetic self-definition in hip-hop.

On the opening track of Unlearning Vol. 2, his fifth solo album, Evidence starts by breaking patterns. "Set the autopilot, cruising speed," he says_a line that evokes his signature laid-back flow. But instead of coasting, the Venice native chooses disruption. "That's a setup for a punch to land with `true indeed,'" he continues, setting the tone for an album that's less about comfort and more about transformation. The track's title, "Plans Change," couldn't be more fitting. Since his emergence with Dilated Peoples, Evidence has always exuded a cool, effortless control. But Unlearning Vol. 2, like its 2021 predecessor, rejects any slide into legacy status. It's not just a stylistic pivot_it's a deeper, more introspective journey, one rooted in technical mastery but driven by instinct and curiosity. Instead of recycling past glories, Evidence explores rawer emotional terrain, crafting a sound that's both grounded and experimental. The production casts a hypnotic spell with tracks like Sebb Bash's harrowing "Seeing Double," C-Lance's nostalgic "Top Seeded," and Evidence's own eerie "Greatest Motivation." Yet his voice remains the anchor, cutting through the haze with precision and depth. Tracks like "Nothing's Perfect" show his lyrical agility, while "Laughing Last" blends stoicism and vulnerability in reflections on family and loss. Collaborators span eras_The Alchemist, DJ Babu, Blu, Domo Genesis, Larry June, Conductor Williams and more_yet the project stays unified by a core ethos: to reinvent, to recontextualize, and to turn pain into purpose through creativity.

G and made connections with some of NY's bigger names such as RZA, Diamond D and Buckwild who he enlisted on his debut album. A nice mix of funk, hip-hop and reggae influences go into the melting pot on the latest SuckaSide, with 'Even After All' proving to be a laid back, blunted jam that's backed up with some hard hitting, sturdy beat manouevres. On the edgier sounding flip, meanwhile, a female MC spits with impressive ferocity while a lovely warm - and somewhat familiar - analogue-edge loop works its magic. Both are key components for use at different points in the jam, some badly needed heavy weaponry that Donald Trump can't withdraw from service here.

Golliwog is billy woods’ first album in two years, preceded by 2023’s Maps, his second collaboration with producer Kenny Segal. That nimble travelogue has little in common with woods’ newest work, despite the fact that Segal shows up a couple times in the credits. Golliwog is a haunting collection that weaves horror, humor, surrealism and Afropessimism into a cinematic tapestry, aided and abetted by a murderer’s row of producers. African zombies, time traveling trap cars, malevolent ragdolls and a dying Frantz Fanon are just a few of the revelers in woods’ danse macabre. Golliwog features production from The Alchemist, Kenny Segal, El-p, Conductor Williams, Preservation, Messiah Musik, Sadhugold, Ant (Atmosphere), Shabaka Hutchings, Steel Tipped Dove, DJ Haram, Willie Green, Jeff Markey, Saint Abdullah, and LA-based experimental jazz trio Human Error Club. Meanwhile, woods is joined on the mic by Backwoodz labelmates Elucid and Cavalier, along with rappers Bruiser Wolf, Despot, Al.Divino, and singer-songwriter Yolanda Watson. Golliwog is another triumph in the woods oeuvre, as layered and compelling as anything he has ever done. A black carnival pitched in a muddy field overnight, empty rides whirring and clattering in the dark.

Limited to 300 copies, worldwide exclusive. Striking, clear, purple and pink color mix, coined “Cosmic Punch.” Mind Over Matter by Zion I stands as a powerful testament to the group’s innovation in hip-hop, but it carries a deeper weight following the untimely passing of Baba Zumbi in 2021. Zumbi's conscious lyricism and spiritual presence were the heart and soul of Zion I, and his passing left an undeniable void in the hip-hop community. The 2000 release of Mind Over Matter combined Zumbi's socially conscious rhymes with producer Amp Live’s futuristic beats, creating a sound that was both ahead of its time and deeply rooted in the traditions of hip-hop. Tracks like the Planet Asia assisted “Critical” and “Inner Light” are emblematic of this balance, where complex lyricism meets genre-bending production. The album’s themes of self-awareness, community, and resilience resonate just as strongly today, showcasing Zion I’s unique ability to fuse the personal with the political in a way that feels both intimate and revolutionary. For these reasons and more, the album was heralded with much acclaim, even earning a nomination for Album of the Year by The Source in 2000, and later being ranked among the 30 best underground hiphop albums since 2000 by HipHopDX. These accolades solidified its influence in the underground hip-hop space. In celebration of the album’s 25th anniversary, Mind Over Matter is being reissued through Live Up Records in partnership with Coalmine Reissues. This special edition will not only serve as a tribute to the genius of Zion I but also as a celebration of Baba Zumbi's enduring legacy. His spirit lives on through these songs, offering fans old and new a chance to reconnect with the timeless messages he left behind.

Scmd Records are very proud to present you the double vinyl, gatefold cover reissue of Compton legend King Tee's third album "Tha Triflin’ Album".

Tha Triflin’ Album, with its mixture of raucous black and blue party humor and harrowing depictions of sexploitation and violence, is a reality sandwich from the streets of South Central L.A. Ice cube makes a guest appearance on “KIng Tee’s Beer Stand”, an actual St. Ides commercial that became the #1 most-requested recording on the L.A. radio station K-day. He also featured on “Hoe B-4 Tha Homie” with Deadly Threat.

Tee unleashes Tha Alkaholiks, J-Ro and Tash whose lyrical styles add serious strength and versatility to the album. Writing and recording over a period of eight months, King Tee coproduced Tha Triflin’ Album with his redoutable crew – DJ Pooh, Broadway, DJ Aladdin and his DJ, E-Swift from Tha Alkaholiks.

Last but not least, legendary east coast producers Marley Marl and DJ Bobcat helped him to add the hardcore NY vibe. The beats are mean and lean, the raps are razor-sharp and the music is def and dope.

44th Move is the combined creative force of pianist & composer Alfa Mist, alongside drummer & producer Richard Spaven. As individuals, the duo have solidified their unrivalled reputations as world class Jazz talents, as exemplified by Alfa’s hugely influential albums such as ‘Antiphon’ & ‘Variables’ and Richard's legendary drum work with the likes of Flying Lotus and Goldie. Initially causing a stir back in 2020 when their joint project first emerged with their genre busting forays into Dance and Hip Hop. Moving into 2025, they now prepare to elevate the levels, and unleash their debut collaborative album ‘Anthem’ via trailblazing Bristolian label Black Acre.

Presenting their debut LP, the pair strive to continue the tradition of adopting a mindstate centred around research and development - pushing themselves to continually learn and grow, raising the bar and uplifting the art form. Launching with first single ‘The Move’, cascading chords elegantly pave the way for Detroit-based rapper Quelle Chris to take centre-stage and deliver purpose-driven lyrics, calling for grit and consistency through life’s challenges. Second single ‘Free Hit’ deploys a scattered junglist break, punctuated by mysterious chord progressions and an enticing, gradually unfurling brass section. Also featuring guest appearances from Bristol turntablist royalty Awkward, ‘Anthem’ moves seamlessly through diverse sonic terrains, the LP traverses Hip-Hop, Techno & DnB, whilst remaining firmly its Jazz-centric sensibilities. On the album’s creation, Richard Spaven says - "The essence of 44th Move is to take the traditional disciplines of live musicianship into electronic forms and compositions. Alfa and I have an aligned appetite to break new ground with every project we do and this is the core ethos of the album".A refined, shifting and accomplished album, it highlights the moment of magic waiting to happen when great minds meet.

GNX is the sixth studio album by American rapper Kendrick Lamar, released unexpectedly digitally on November 22, 2024, through PGLang and Interscope Records. This album follows his 2022 release, "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers," and marks his first project after departing from longtime labels Top Dawg Entertainment and Aftermath Entertainment.

The album's title, "GNX," references the Buick Grand National Experimental, a limited-production model of the Buick Regal from 1987, known for its all-black appearance and high performance.

"GNX" comprises 12 tracks, featuring collaborations with artists such as SZA on "Luther" and "Gloria." The production team includes notable figures like Jack Antonoff, Sounwave, and DJ Mustard. The album's opening track, "Wacced Out Murals," delves into Lamar's experiences and relationships within the music industry, mentioning artists like Snoop Dogg, Nas, and Lil Wayne. The song reflects on Lamar's journey and the dynamics of his interactions with these artists. "Squabble Up," another track from the album, showcases Lamar's integration of California rap styles, including G-funk and hyphy, mixed with vibrant influences such as mariachi. This track channels a carefree and rebellious spirit, even evoking 2Pac’s defiant attitude. "Heart Pt. 6" continues Lamar's long-running biographical series, detailing his split with Top Dawg Entertainment to form his own creative communications company, PGLang.

The surprise release of "GNX" has been met with significant attention and acclaim, further solidifying Kendrick Lamar's status as a leading figure in contemporary hip-hop.

When Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was released on February 6, 2003, it marked a seismic shift in hip-hop. The debut studio album by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, backed by Eminem and Dr. Dre, fused gritty realism with commercial appeal. It did not merely introduce a new artist—it redefined the mainstream viability of gangsta rap in the early 2000s. The album's powerful storytelling, infectious hooks, and hard-hitting production made it one of the most significant debuts in hip-hop history.
Before releasing the album, 50 Cent had already endured a turbulent journey marked by crime, poverty, and near-death. Famously shot nine times in 2000, his survival and resilience became central to his narrative. His underground buzz, particularly through mixtapes like Guess Who's Back?, caught the attention of Eminem, who introduced him to Dr. Dre. Their combined endorsement not only elevated his credibility but gave the album access to world-class production and marketing support.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is deeply autobiographical. It chronicles 50 Cent's rise from the streets of South Jamaica, Queens, through tracks that balance menace, ambition, and introspection. The opening track, "What Up Gangsta", immediately establishes his aggressive persona. In "Many Men (Wish Death)", 50 addresses the attempt on his life with chilling clarity, turning trauma into triumph.

While much of the album centers on street life, there’s emotional depth in songs like "21 Questions", which explores romantic vulnerability. The album’s mix of violence, charm, and self-awareness creates a multi-dimensional portrait of the rapper as both a hardened survivor and an aspirational figure.

Musically, the album thrives on the chemistry between 50 Cent’s laid-back delivery and the polished beats from top-tier producers. Dr. Dre, Eminem, Sha Money XL, and others craft a soundscape that merges West Coast finesse with East Coast grit.

The lead single "In Da Club", produced by Dr. Dre, became a cultural phenomenon. With its minimalist beat and universal party hook ("Go shorty, it’s your birthday..."), it not only topped charts but became an anthem. Other tracks like "If I Can't", "Heat", and "Back Down" showcase the cinematic production style that characterized early 2000s hip-hop.

The album was a commercial juggernaut. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 872,000 copies in its first week. It would go on to sell over 15 million copies worldwide, earning multi-platinum status and spawning several hit singles.

Critics largely praised Get Rich or Die Tryin’ for its authenticity, catchy production, and 50 Cent’s charisma. Some noted its glorification of violence and criminality, but even detractors acknowledged its raw energy and cultural relevance.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ arrived at a time when the music industry was grappling with digital piracy and changing tastes. Its success helped rejuvenate commercial hip-hop and solidified 50 Cent as a global superstar. It launched a wave of G-Unit affiliated artists and merchandise, turning 50 into not just a rapper but a brand.

The album’s legacy endures over two decades later. It is frequently cited as one of the best debut albums in rap history and a defining work of 2000s hip-hop. Its influence can be heard in the music of artists who blend street sensibility with crossover ambition.

Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is more than a debut album—it is a statement of survival, ambition, and dominance. With its vivid storytelling, masterful production, and cultural resonance, it set the standard for what a hip-hop debut could achieve. 50 Cent’s transformation from underground mixtape artist to global icon was fueled by this album, making it a cornerstone in the genre’s history.

2024 pressing of this classic 90s Roots gem!

Illadelph Halflife is the third studio album by the legendary hip-hop group The Roots, released on September 24, 1996. This album solidified The Roots' reputation as innovative musicians who blend live instrumentation with traditional hip-hop elements, standing out in an era where most rap groups used sample-based production.

The album features The Roots' signature blend of live instrumentation, jazz-infused beats, and socially conscious lyrics, along with skilled wordplay. The band’s drummer, Questlove, and rapper/lyricist Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) take the lead in crafting a sound that moves between laid-back grooves and more intense, intricate musical arrangements. Live instrumentation is a core element, with a focus on creating complex rhythms and organic soundscapes.

Illadelph Halflife addresses various topics, including social issues, racial identity, urban life, and the challenges of fame.
The lyrics are often introspective, with Black Thought offering sharp commentary on the struggles of African Americans, the complexities of relationships, and the pressures of navigating the music industry.
The album also explores the concept of self-doubt and searching for authenticity in both personal and societal contexts.

While not a massive commercial hit upon its release, the album was critically acclaimed for its innovative production, complex lyricism, and the tight cohesion of The Roots as a band. It has since become regarded as one of the most important hip-hop albums of the 1990s. It is celebrated for balancing underground aesthetics with more accessible sounds, paving the way for alternative hip-hop to gain a broader audience.
Some tracks that stand out:
"What They Do" – A critique of materialism and superficiality in the music industry, accompanied by a memorable video that parodied flashy rap videos.
"Concerto of the Desperado" – A harder, more aggressive track, showcasing Black Thought’s lyrical prowess and The Roots' dynamic, live sound.
"Clones" – One of the more aggressive tracks, addressing the concept of originality versus imitation in hip-hop.
"Episodes" – A dark and introspective track that delves into street life and violence.

Illadelph Halflife helped The Roots gain a devoted fan base and led to further critical recognition. It is often cited as one of the most influential hip-hop albums of the era, known for its jazz influence, conscious lyricism, and its rejection of the dominant sound in mid-90s hip-hop.
This album marked a turning point for The Roots as they began to shift towards even more experimental and politically engaged projects, which would later culminate in their landmark album Things Fall Apart in 1999.
Illadelph Halflife represents The Roots at a critical stage in their evolution, showcasing their ability to blend musicianship and message, setting them apart as one of the most innovative groups in hip-hop history.

Limited edition of 500 copies, only available hat HHV!

Bahamadia’s 1996 debut album Kollage is rightly regarded as one of the greatest rap albums of the 1990s. For the first time ever, Be With present the definitive double LP version of this eternal hip-hop classic, including the legendary "Path To Rhythm" which never appeared on the original LP or on vinyl, anywhere. An indelible VIBE from start-to-finish, Kollage presents Bahamadia's swirling rhymes delivered with an irresistibly butter flow and razor-sharp assuredness over a steady slew of smoothed-out, jazzed-up, blunted beats. Achingly cool and effortlessly funky throughout, it's an absolute must for true 90s hip-hop fanatics.

The entire Kollage project was recorded at D&D Studios and the ties to Gang Starr are keenly felt, with DJ Premier producing five tracks in addition to the killer songs Guru had already produced with her. Working with the cream of the mid-90s East Coast sound, Kollage is, accordingly, a record that demonstrates a varied musical taste with disparate influences, as Bahamadia has previously stated: “The title Kollage was a reflection of my state of mind. I first got interested in music from playing my parents’ and grandparents’ records, as well what I heard on the radio. I wanted Kollage to reflect that diversity both lyrically and sonically."

With intelligent, poetic lyricism and a laconic verbal style bursting with both warm texture and deceptive energy, Bahamadia’s flow was as inspired by Aretha and Nancy Wilson as it was Q-Tip, Schoolly D and Lady B. Swaggering out the gate, "WordPlay" finds Bahamadia confidently showcasing her considerable old-school battle-rhyme skills over a Guru beat that utilises an infectiously bouncy bassline with splashes of sultry jazz horns and a Jeru vocal snatch for the hook. Up next, the quietly shimmering and ruggedly beautiful "Spontaneity" is one of the most alluring on the record, Da Beatminerz crafting a brilliantly soulful and jazzy soundscape for Bahamadia's effortless vocals to float across. It's followed by "Rugged Ruff", where the rapper carefully constructs a swift off-beat flow over Premier's raw jazzy fire.

With smooth spacey synth vibes overseen by former Geto Boys producer N.O. Joe, "I Confess" is, without question, a fly love song and soothing (p)-funk groove. "UKNOWHOWWEDU" is an airy, chilled tribute to her hometown. Produced by Ski Beatz & DJ Redhanded, it rides a gloriously mellow break. It's a true Philly anthem, shouting out a who’s who of the entire city’s scene. Early banger "Total Wreck" follows, presenting a murky Guru instrumental elevated by jazzy horns. Bahamadia invokes the title's suggestion, firing her brilliant bars more aggressively than we’re accustomed to. More Beatminerz-brilliance comes in the way of "Innovation", an opportunity for the MC to invoke Freestyle Fellowship in her forward-thinking and literary verses. "Da Jawn" features hometown buddies The Roots, with Black Thought gliding into a back-and-forth with Bahamadia over ?uestlove’s warm, snapping percussion. With the strut club banger "True Honey Buns (Dat Freak Sh*t)", DJ Premier provides some laidback vibrant boom bap for Bahamadia to share a wild, cautionary tale about a night out with her girl, Kia.

Fan favourite "3 Tha Hard Way" is a hypnotically sinister cut, with Bahamadia, K-Swift and Mecca Star taking star turns to coast over DJ Premier’s raw beat whilst the tender "Biggest Part Of Me" is a heartfelt stunner dedicated to her son. Incredibly, only the European and Japanese CD versions of Kollage was released with the brilliantly breezy “Path To Rhythm”, featuring Ursula Rucker. Whilst ostensibly a "bonus track", it's anything but, to our ears. Very much in sonic conversation with KRS-One's stretched-out sleeper classic "Higher Level", it's absolutely essential so we had to include it, appearing on wax for the first time here, exclusively. Quite a coup.

Somewhat predictably, whilst Kollage was released to significant critical acclaim, it suffered from disappointing sales. In the intervening years - and for far too long - it was a criminally underrated record, an increasingly hidden gem. We hope this double LP reissue - which looks and sounds amazing - will go some way to correct this. This 2024 Be With double LP re-issue has been mastered for vinyl by Simon Francis, cut by Cicely Balston and pressed at Record Industry. It's too bold and beautiful to remain overlooked and underserved.

Edition of 500, numbered.

Suave House Records, in collaboration with Coalmine Reissues, proudly presents the first ever vinyl reissue of On Top Of The World by Eightball & MJG, celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary. This groundbreaking 1995 release, a cornerstone of Southern hip-hop, not only cemented the duo’s status as Memphis legends but also propelled them onto the national stage, highlighting their exceptional talent and unique sound.

At a time when the East and West Coasts dominated the rap scene, On Top Of The World brought the Third Coast into the conversation with its masterful storytelling, slick production, and unparalleled chemistry between 8Ball and MJG. The album climbed the charts, peaking at #8 on the Billboard 200, earning gold certification, and proving that Southern hip-hop had a unique and powerful voice in the game.

Key singles like “Space Age Pimpin’” were instrumental in this breakout. The smooth, infectious track lit up airwaves across the country, reaching #58 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and #22 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. Meanwhile, “Pimp in My Own Rhyme” underscored the duo’s lyrical prowess and contributed to the album’s widespread acclaim.

On Top Of The World remains a hallmark of 1990s hip-hop—a testament to Eightball & MJG’s ability to carve out their own lane. This reissue is a must-have for fans, celebrating a record that propelled Southern rap to new heights and cemented its rightful place in hip-hop history.

It is the five year anniversary of the release of billy woods and Kenny Segal's classic album Hiding Places. As time passes, and more of the duo's work enters the canon, it is easy to forget what an unlikely pairing these two were in 2019. Both woods and Segal were already more than a decade into their careers, but neither had collaborated this deeply with artists outside of their coastal scenes. Kenny's most recent projects were a couple jazzy instrumental albums and production forSelf-Jupiter, Open Mike Eagle, and Milo. For his part; woods was two years removed from his previous solo album with Blockhead. Then Hiding Places happened and changed the trajectories of both artists, and Backwoodz Studioz, with it.The original 2019 vinyl pressing was limited to 500 copies with the house on the cover, alonside a numbered run of 100 special-editions with alternative artwork by M. Musgrove. 2020 saw a new pressing that included the album instrumentals; thisversion had all new artwork and was limited to just 1000 copies. This five-year anniversary reissue is the first one to feature the iconic house cover, and it also has a gatefold with new original artwork from M. Musgrove. Fans have been clamoringfor this for years, and we just wanted to do it right. We think we have done that here. As for the music, we like to think that while the original album description is a little quaint in retrospect, it remains accurate: Hiding Places finds both artists deep in the labyrinth. Segal's lush soundscapes have a new edge, woods' writing is, paradoxically, at its most direct. Hiding Places is a child's game: funny and cruel, as brutal as a fairy tale. The album features contributions from both artists' well of collaborators with ELUCID, Self-Jupiter, and MOTHERMARY making appearances.

Released on June 7, 1994, Regulate... G Funk Era marked the debut of Warren G, a rapper and producer from Long Beach, California. As a pivotal album in the development of the G-Funk sound, it captured the essence of 1990s West Coast hip-hop with its smooth grooves, Parliament-Funkadelic samples, and relaxed, conversational flow. Best known for its iconic lead single “Regulate” featuring Nate Dogg, the album carved out a distinct niche between gangsta rap and radio-friendly funk, establishing Warren G as both a streetwise narrator and a chill ambassador of the California lifestyle
By the early 1990s, West Coast hip-hop was dominating the charts. Dr. Dre’s The Chronic (1992) had redefined the sonic palette of rap, blending laid-back funk instrumentation with gangsta-themed storytelling. This new subgenre, G-Funk, relied heavily on synthesizer leads, thick basslines, and samples from 1970s funk records.

Warren G was uniquely positioned in this movement. As the stepbrother of Dr. Dre and a founding member of the group 213 (with Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg), he was deeply entrenched in the Long Beach hip-hop scene. However, Warren’s style diverged from the harder edges of gangsta rap. His music emphasized coolness over aggression, storytelling over bravado, and melody over menace. The lyrical themes on Regulate... G Funk Era revolve around life in Southern California, including cruising, parties, the streets, loyalty, and resilience. But unlike many contemporaries, Warren G approaches these topics with a tone that is conversational, observational, and introspective rather than confrontational. The title track “Regulate”, built on a sample from Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgettin’,” tells a cinematic story of a nighttime encounter turned rescue mission. Nate Dogg’s smooth crooning contrasts beautifully with Warren’s cool-headed narrative flow. “Do You See” explores Warren’s perspective on community and perseverance, delivered with quiet confidence rather than boastfulness. Tracks like “This D.J.” (another hit single) emphasize Warren’s dual identity as rapper and beatmaker, paying homage to the culture of DJing while also enjoying his own success. Throughout the album, Warren G balances street credibility with a sense of everyday realism, often addressing adversity not with rage but with steady-minded clarity.

The production of Regulate... G Funk Era exemplifies the hallmarks of G-Funk: slow, rolling beats, melodic synthesizer leads, funk basslines, and prominent use of classic 1970s soul and funk samples. Warren G produced most of the album himself, showing off his ear for groove and mood rather than bombast. Heavy sampling from Funkadelic, Zapp, and Donny Hathaway.

The album was both a commercial triumph and a cultural milestone: Regulate... G Funk Era peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. It was certified triple platinum in the U.S., selling over 3 million copies. The single “Regulate” became one of the most iconic rap songs of the decade, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Critics praised Warren G for creating a cohesive, easygoing album that stood apart from the aggression and tension found in other rap records of the time. While some noted a lack of lyrical complexity, most agreed that his honesty and distinctive style made the album both refreshing and significant.

Regulate... G Funk Era solidified Warren G’s status as a key architect of the G-Funk movement. His ability to blend gangsta themes with soulful musicality opened new doors for hip-hop, paving the way for future artists who valued vibe, melody, and relatability. It also introduced the world to Nate Dogg, whose deep, melodic voice became a staple in West Coast rap and changed how hooks were delivered in hip-hop. The chemistry between Warren G and Nate Dogg on “Regulate” became legendary, setting the standard for rap-sung collaborations for years to come. Furthermore, the album remains a time capsule of 1990s California, encapsulating the sun-soaked streets, lowrider culture, and the everyday lives of people who lived between glamorized violence and genuine community.

Regulate... G Funk Era is not only a landmark debut—it’s a defining moment for an entire genre. With its smooth beats, laid-back attitude, and vivid storytelling, Warren G crafted an album that celebrated the West Coast lifestyle while offering a softer, more introspective take on the realities of urban life. In doing so, he helped shape the future of hip-hop, proving that you didn’t have to shout to be heard. The album remains a testament to balance: between street and soul, narrative and groove, hardness and harmony.

The 90s were all about Hip-Hop groups. Brooklyn's Junior M.A.F.I.A., consisting of members Lil' Kim, Lil' Cease, Trife, Larceny, Nino Brown, Chico Del Vec, MC Klepto, Capone, and Bugsy, formed under the guidance of The Notorious B.I.G. after he released his classic debut album Ready To Die. At the end of the summer of 1995, Junior M.A.F.I.A released their debut album Conspiracy on Big Beat Records featuring the lead single "Players Anthem," which featured Biggie and was produced by the late great DJ Clark Kent. Clark Kent produced three other songs including the second single "I Need You Tonight," featuring Biggie's wife Faith Evans on the chorus. The third single, "Get Money," another Biggie feature produced by EZ Elpee with its classic flip of the Roy Ayers-produced Sylvia Striplin track "You Can't Turn Me Away," was certified platinum. With eight members deep, it was difficult to stand out, but Lil' Kim and Lil' Cease would be the breakout stars and go on to release solo albums. The group disbanded after Notorious BIG was murdered in 1997, but left behind songs that still hold up today and remain a big part of Biggie's legacy, as well as producer DJ Clark Kent- RIP.

Out of print on vinyl since 2017, Get On Down is proud to present this 90s Hip-Hop classic as a limited edition reissue. The album is pressed on splatter colored vinyl and packaged in a gatefold jacket.

Their unique blend of quick-fire vocals and dusty breakbeats is most well-known on tracks such as "Lost Arts" and "Tales From The East." The project came together in 2018 with the intent of marrying Brigham's lyrics concerning social commentary, police brutality, and poverty with L'Orange's thudding beats and crackling vinyl samples to achieve a new, refreshing take on hip-hop in modern times. Marlowe 2 seeks to continue that legacy.

With Mom & Dad, veteran wordsmith Apathy delivers his most personal and conceptually rich project to date—an album steeped in nostalgia, anchored in sharp cultural critique, and draped in the breezy textures of his new “Shore Life” sound. The title nods to Ronald and Nancy Reagan, casting Apathy as a child of the '80s raised under the shadow of Reaganomics. But this isn't just a trip down memory lane—it's a reflective deep dive into the socio-political climate that shaped his youth, told with the masterful penmanship fans have come to expect from the CT legend.

The first release from his newly launched imprint, Anchors Up Rec, Mom & Dad showcases Apathy’s evolution as both emcee and producer. He helms the boards for 9 of the 12 tracks, crafting lush, sample-heavy beats that blend laid-back vibes with surgical precision. Additional production comes from rising star Playa Haze and longtime collaborator Little Vic.

Standout tracks include the haunting “Lee Harv” (feat. Little Vic), the soul-drenched “All Good,” and the sharp, shoreline serenade “WHALERS.” Guest spots from Suave-Ski, Slaine, Ryu, and Little Vic round out an album that’s both personal memoir and lyrical masterclass. Mom & Dad is an essential listen from one of underground hip-hop’s most consistent voices.

The album feels like a slow ride through the city just after sunset—windows down, sky fading from gold to indigo, and a calm confidence guiding every turn. It’s Larry at his most self-assured and reflective, balancing the cool ease he’s known for with sharper focus and deeper pockets of honesty. Cardo’s production is smooth and expansive—built on warm basslines, polished synths, and sample chops that stretch like the dusk. The album continues to refine their seasoned partnership, evolving into something even more purposeful. No wasted energy, just clean living, big vision, and a reminder that progress doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Ramirez returns with THA Playa$ Manual II, the long-awaited sequel to his cult classic that helped solidify his place as one of underground rap’s most distinctive voices. Steeped in Southern-fried funk, Bay Area swagger, and Memphis-style menace, this new chapter finds Ramirez sharper, smoother, and more seasoned—delivering game like a streetwise sage with a gold grill grin.

Where the original Playa$ Manual was gritty and raw, THA Playa$ Manual II sounds like a player who's leveled up. The beats knock harder, the flows glide slicker, and the game is deeper. Ramirez weaves tales of betrayal, come-ups, late-night drives, and cold-hearted reality with the same charismatic cool that made him a standout in the $uicideboy$-adjacent G59 movement—but this time with a more refined, cinematic approach.

From trunk-rattling bangers to syrupy smooth cuts that soundtrack late-night escapades, THA Playa$ Manual II feels like a ride through Ramirez’s world with tinted windows up and the bass on max. It’s a record for the hustlers, the heartbreakers, the loners, and the legends in the making.

This is more than a sequel—it’s a statement: the playa’s still active, and the manual’s been updated.

Stakes is High is the 4th studio album by De La Soul, released on July 2, 1996. Stakes is High was critically lauded for its music, lyricism, and its overall message concerning the artistic decline rap music began to face in the mid-90s. The title track and first single was produced by J Dilla and the album's second single, "Itzsoweezee (HOT)", with only Dave on vocals, was accompanied by a creative music video. The album spawned a third single "4 More", featuring Zhane. The album did provide a launching pad for future star rapper and actor Mos Def, who appeared on the track "Big Brother Beat" and Common who is featured on "The Bizness".

'Illmatic' is the debut studio album by American rapper Nas, released in April 1994. Often cited as one of the best hip-hop albums of the '90s, 'Illmatic' is the undisputed classic upon which Nas' reputation rests. It helped spearhead the artistic renaissance of New York hip-hop in the post-Chronic era, leading a return to street aesthetics. Hip-hop fans accustomed to 73-minute opuses sometimes complain about 'Illmatic''s brevity, but even if it leaves you wanting more, it's also one of the few '90s rap albums with absolutely no wasted space. 'Illmatic' reveals a great lyricist in top form meeting great production, and it remains a perennial favorite among serious hip-hop fans.

Real Brothas is the first and only studio album by the Compton duo BG Knocc Out & Dresta, released in 1995. Hailing from the streets of Compton, the two blood brothers quickly made a name for themselves in the West Coast scene through their authenticity, street credibility, and their close connection to the legendary Eazy-E.

BG Knocc Out & Dresta first caught national attention in 1993 with their appearance on “Real Muthaphuckkin G's”, Eazy-E's infamous diss track aimed at Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Their sharp verses and strong affiliation with Eazy-E positioned them as rising figures within the Compton rap movement.

Real Brothas fits perfectly within the golden era of West Coast rap, blending raw street narratives, declarations of loyalty, and the fierce musical rivalries typical of the 90s. The album draws heavily on the G-Funk sound, with deep basslines, melodic synthesizers, and smooth yet heavy funk-influenced production, echoing the sonic landscape popularized by Dr. Dre, DJ Quik, and Above The Law.

Throughout the project, BG Knocc Out & Dresta deliver unapologetic, hard-hitting verses that reflect their experiences in Compton and their allegiance to Eazy-E and Ruthless Records. Their complementary flows and aggressive tone give the album a raw, authentic energy.

Real Brothas features standout tracks such as “Jealousy,” “D.P.G. Killa,” and “Compton Swangin,” further establishing the duo as voices of the Compton street life. The album was released during a highly charged era of West Coast rap, amid label rivalries, diss tracks, and the broader cultural impact of gangsta rap.

With Real Brothas, BG Knocc Out & Dresta delivered a project that represents the heart of Compton in the 90s unfiltered, street-rooted, and carrying the legacy of Eazy-E. Today, this album remains a cult classic among West Coast and G-Funk rap fans.

After teasing its forthcoming release this past weekend at Tyler, The Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, the Mac Miller Estate announces the release of his album Balloonerism. Alongside the album’s formal announcement, the Estate is sharing the trailer for the album’s accompanying film, which is directed by Samuel Mason.

Speaking about the release, his family shares:

Many of Malcolm's fans are aware of Balloonerism, a full-length album that Malcolm created around the time of the release of Faces in 2014. It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm -- to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.

We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world. With that in mind, we're happy to announce that Balloonerism will be released on January 17th, 2025.

The album was born from the same creative period in which Mac was working on Watching Movies with the Sound Off, Delusional Thomas, Faces and more, and represents the creative ambition that he had agnostic of musical genre.

US Hip Hop

Who would have thought over 40 years ago that US hip hop would have such an immense influence on the language of generations? American hip hop emerged in the early 1970s, with DJ Kool Herc laying the foundation with his block parties. Initially, MCs provided verbal support for the DJs, but they soon took centre stage. By the time the SP1200 replaced the TR-808, hip hop kids could effortlessly quote lines from the most important wordsmiths. In the second half of the 1980s, US hip hop evolved from a subculture into a global hype. First in the USA, then in Europe and Japan… h2. The Golden Era of US Rap Slick Rick took storytelling to the next level, Public Enemy became the political mouthpiece of the black community. The Ultramagnetic MC’s gave a taste of the US hip hop of the future, both lyrically and musically. The Native Tongues collective represented a level-headed alternative to the language of the streets. And soon producers such as DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock and Q-Tip discovered jazz as a source of samples. While rappers on the East Coast competed with their extensive vocabularies, the West Coast celebrated gangsta rap. With resounding success, as was quickly apparent. With Kool G Rap and Schoolly D, there were already MCs on the East Coast who had previously eloquently addressed the gangster lifestyle, but Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella were more radical, more offensive, simply louder and more media-savvy.

US hip hop from the 1990s to today

In the 1990s, US hip hop developed into a mass phenomenon. The beats from the MPC and clever wordplay thrilled the masses. Rap tracks not only topped the hip hop charts. With the help of Biggie Smalls, Puff Daddy redefined the mainstream. Today, some of the Golden Era MCs are living proof that you can still deliver captivating rhymes even in your golden years. Names like KRS-One, Kool Keith, Kool G Rap, GZA, Pharoahe Monch, Freddie Foxxx, Sadat X and O.C. immediately come to mind when discussing this topic. And even after more than 25 years in the business, producers like Pete Rock, Large Professor and DJ Premier are still rocking the studio console. New artists from all regions of the USA are creating their own version of US hip hop and even thrilling die-hard old schoolers. But even little-noticed rappers from the nineties sometimes only achieve their breakthrough in later life. Has-Lo, Roc Marciano, KA, Billy Woods, crews like Pro Era, Odd Future and A$AP Mob, and fresh faces like Your Old Droog and RAST RFC are making their mark on American rap music today. Meanwhile, El-P, Apollo Brown, The Alchemist and L’Orange are revitalising the soundscape of US hip hop. And MCs, producers and fans alike benefit from cross-generational collaborative projects.
