The first ever official reissue of this masterpiece out of the Boot Camp Clik: Ruck and Rock, now better known as Sean Price and Rockness Monstah formed the duo Heltah Skeltah, released their debut album in 1996.

The album is celebrated for its gritty, dark production and the dynamic interplay between the two MCs. It features production from Da Beatminerz, E-Swift, Lord Jamar, and others, delivering a grimy, basement sound characteristic of mid-90s East Coast hip-hop. Tracks like "Operation Lock Down" and "Therapy" showcase the duo's chemistry and lyrical prowess. "Nocturnal" peaked at number 35 on the Billboard 200 and number 5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, selling over 250,000 copies in the United States. The album includes notable singles such as "Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka," which reached number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of the Boot Camp Clik's most successful tracks. Other singles include "Operation Lock Down" and "Therapy." "Nocturnal" is regarded as a classic in underground hip-hop circles, praised for its cohesive production and the duo's lyrical abilities. Critics have highlighted the album's dark, atmospheric beats and the seamless collaboration between Rock and Ruck.
