Iggy Pop - Lust For Life Purple Vinyl Edition
Iggy Pop
Lust For Life Purple Vinyl Edition
LP | EU | Reissue (4 Men With Beards)
29,99 €*
Release:EU – Reissue
Genre:Rock / Indie
Released less than a year after The Idiot, Lust For Life is a return to the sloppy, sleazy, blues-y, swagger of the Stooges. Though the record is, again produced by David Bowie, he takes much more of a backseat musically, allowing for Iggy Pop to take center stage in his return to form. His best solo album and an absolute classic from this legend. Reissued on purple vinyl. Limited edition of 2,000.

Containing some of the best songs he's ever written, "Southern Nights" is Allen Toussaint's 1975 "swing for the fences" attempt at an all out masterpiece. Somewhat of a concept album, with reoccurring instrumental themes usually based on the title track popping up between songs, this album spawned at least two hits for other artists. The title track (minus the Lennonesque rotary speaker vocal effect) was a giant hit for Glen Campbell, and "What Do You Want The Girl To Do?" was one of several singles on Boz Skaggs' 1976 gazillion seller "Silk Degrees" and also recorded with some success by Bonnie Raitt. On rust colored vinyl.

The Idiot Red & Yellow Vinyl Edition
LP | 1977 | EU | Reissue (4 Men With Beards)
29,99 €*
Release:1977 / EU – Reissue
Genre:Rock / Indie
Originally released in 1977, this was the first album Iggy Pop made after the dissolution of the Stooges, several jailings and a self-imposed stay in a mental institution. Produced by David Bowie, and including music written almost entirely by him, this is Iggy’s most introspective and heavy work. Much more mechanical than the sleazy proto-punk of the Stooges, The Idiot was a huge influence on the post-punk sound of folks like Joy Division and Magazine. An absolute classic on red and yellow vinyl. Limited edition of 1,000.

*Canadian singer/songwriter David Wiffen's 1971 self-titled album, originally released on Fantasy Records, is now reissued by 4 Men With Beards. The album is a showcase for David's rich baritone voice and his world weary, laid back songs. Standout tracks include the classic song "Driving Wheel" covered by Tom Rush, The Byrds, The Jayhawks, Roger McGuinn and The Cowboy Junkies among many others, plus the openly confessional "More Often Than Not" and "I've Got A Ticket." This is an underground folk/chamber pop classic reissued on 180-gram vinyl.

Moondog's debut release, originally on the Prestige label, came out in 1956, long after he'd become a legendary New York City street performer. The blind Kansas native showcases his talent for the minimal and avant-garde here, with compositions driven by percussion and Japanese-inspired melodies, complimented by street sounds, recitations, and animal noises. Bizarre even for today's standards, it's a wonder this was released over a half-century ago. Moondog's brilliant debut, reissued on limited edition clear vinyl.

Release:1964 / US – Reissue
Genre:Rock / Indie
Originally released in 1966. Fahey's never recorded an album that was more thoroughly of its moment. From the groovy flute and twangy sitar accompaniment to the backwards guitar, this Birthday Party is a charmingly trippy 60s time capsule. But it isn't a two dimensional one. The album gains immense depth from the tension between his sweeping, fingerpicked melodies and discordant string-battery. It's the audible battle between yearned for rose colored luminescence and ankle blistering hellhound darkness that enables this record to transcend its hippie dreaminess.

This album showcases the group in their Southern Gospel prime on the title track, “Gloryland” and “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen”. The group would go on to soul glory when they signed with Stax Records later in the decade but this is the group doing what they do best - gospel. Reissued on 180 gram vinyl by 4 Men With Beards.

This, the second Blue Note album by Eddie Gale, was released in 1969 and includes jazz heavy weight Elvin Jones on drums and sax man Jimmy Lyons. This is a blend of soul jazz, free form freak outs and a gospel-influenced street choir, and it’s suggested listening for fans of Sun Ra & Brother Ah, John Coltrane's late '60s LPs, and Ornette Coleman and Albert Ayler's more groove-oriented recordings. The original vinyl LPs go for big bucks on Ebay, and this is the first time this Blue Note album has ever been reissued. Remastered from the original master tapes with original artwork.

Genre:Rock / Indie
Case History is the debut solo release from bluesy British singer-songwriter Kevin Coyne (originally released on John Peel's Dandelion label in 1972). Primarily just guitar and vocals, Case History is a powerful album from a very unique voice who was celebrated by folks as wide ranging as John Lydon, Sting, and the Mekons. Coyne, who passed away in 2004, spent much of the '60s working with the mentally disabled, and his songwriting is informed by a deep concern for the plight and mistreatment of those who have been tossed off by society. A bit of an outsider himself, he eschewed record industry pressure and maintained focus on his singular artistic vision. Another underappreciated classic.

Guy Clark's debut from 1975 is one of the all time classic country singer-songwriter records. By the time of its release the Texas native had been shopping his tunes in Nashville for a few years and the songs from Old No. 1 were already well aged and often covered. Regardless, though Clark considers himself more a songwriter than a recording artist, nobody holds a candle to these performances. From the rollicking Texas swing of opener "Rita Ballou" to the finger picked heartbreak of closer "Let Him Roll" there is not a stinker to be found. Features help from Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell and a young Steve Earle. Reissued on blue vinyl LP.

Originally released in April of 1975, Let's Take It To The Stage, is George Clinton’s pioneering combo's seventh album for Westbound Records. Let's Take It To The Stage was the work of a group that had turned a corner, a combination of all the disparate aspects of Funkadelic’s music up to that point: the extended jams, abrasive guitars, smooth ballads, direct vocals, psychedelic ingredients, sexual lyrics and dirty funk into the most short and to-the-point songs they’d ever recorded. Let's Take It To The Stage is cool music made by cool people for cool people. Blue vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.

Over 50 years since his discovery by ethnomusicologists Dr. Harry Oster and Richard Allen in the prison farm of Angola, Louisiana, what is it that makes the blues as sung and picked by Robert Pete Williams such a singular listening experience, unequaled elsewhere in that musical form? As Peter Guralnick, in his Feel Like Going Home book writes: “It’s difficult to approve the banalities of most blues singers after listening to Robert Pete Williams. More than anyone else he shatters the conventions of the form and refuses to rely upon any of the clichés, either of music or of lyric, which bluesman after bluesman will invoke. Instead he sings blues which reflect a unique and personal vision; he makes each song unmistakably his own.” Unfamiliar keys, cliché-free lyricism, spontaneity, an individualistic style in invoking his particular blues, all make Robert Pete Williams an idiosyncratic entry into the canon. It’s impossible to listen to blues artists before him and hear strains of his particular style. None have matched it since. Louisiana Blues contains 10 songs recorded in the month of July 1966 out in Berkeley, California for John Fahey’s Takoma imprint. Comes with a 8 page booklet. Limited edition of 600 on bottleneck brown vinyl.

1976's Tales of Kidd Funkadelic is the last Funkadelic album on Westbound Records and it was actually released after George Clinton and co. had left the label for Warner Bros. Just before leaving, Clinton (as a contractual obligation) delivered to their original label a collection of recently recorded outtakes (some leftover jams, songs, and funk pieces) which were released as the album Tales of Kidd Funkadelic (the LP did significantly better commercially than their first album for Warner Bros. Hardcore Jollies and included "Undisco Kidd", an R&B Top 30 single). Limited edition of 500 blue & green vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.

Another classic LP from the P-Funk camp, originally released in 1973. The title track is an absolute stone classic funk jam and "Nappy Dugout" is another heavily sampled nugget (most notably on A Tribe Called Quest's "Ham And Eggs"). George Clinton gets heavy too, in the harrowing Vietnam War spoken word song "March To The Witch's Castle." 1971's Maggot Brain is Funkadelic's all-out masterpiece. Absolutely no one working in soul and funk at the time had the scope, or vision, to pull off the kind of record that George Clinton and his collaborators have made here. Eccentric funk jams are book ended by two of the heaviest tracks ("Maggot Brain" and "Wars Of Armageddon") ever committed to tape. The title track, and album opener, is nothing short of mind-blowing, Eddie Hazel's guitar is a revolution brought on by Clinton asking him to play “as if your mother just died”. An essential classic and the deepest album to come out of the Parliament-Funkadelic camp. Limited edition of 1,000 purple vinyl in a deluxe classic style gatefold sleeve.

The 1970 debut from Detroit's nastiest, most shredding progenitors of funk-rock. Funkadelic formed in the late '60s and, in addition to Clinton, included the blazing guitar of Eddie Hazel, organist Mickey Atkins, rhythm guitarist Tawl Ross, and drummer Tiki Fulwood. Though firmly rooted in funk and soul, Funkadelic incorporates a dark psychedelic element, influenced by Hendrix and Sly Stone, to create a sound that was unparalleled at the time. Sampled by everyone from DJ Shadow to Ice Cube, Funkadelic still sounds fresh today and is the first solid example of George Clinton's eccentric genius. Limited edition of 500 red & blue vinyl in a deluxe classic style jacket.

Originally released in 1964, Dance of Death offers a glimpse of an artist in transformation. More than half the album's titles draw from the traditional blues and country repertoire Fahey had spent his teen years and young adulthood collecting, listening to, and learning to play, yet the recordings proved once and for all that his interests lay in musical transfigurations rather than preservation - Fahey was not afraid to use these old tunes as raw material.
