After a quiet 2016 which saw the label release only a single EP, Altered Moods Recordings launches the first in a steady stream of releases for 2017 and beyond with its first double-pack since "Love...Lost and Found", the first vinyl record it released back in 2006. With "The Lodge", AMR has joined forces with techno and jakbeat wunderkind D'Marc Cantu, who has a long, storied history with labels such as M>O>S>, Creme Organization, and Nation, and with his mentor and friend Tadd Mullinix as their duo 2AMFM. On this double-12, he shows us and the world his more melodic, deeper side, while still maintaining a sense of urgency and a fingerhold on the jakbeat throughout. We have listened to this release for a long time and it never gets old to the ears. We are confident that this release will end up being a timeless classic in the coming years.

This various-artists joint features four of today's hottest underground artists and promises to be the anthem of the summer. With four strong dance tracks built for either the dance floor or the listening room, "Rotate. Freely." will be quick to establish itself as one of the hot summer records to have in the bag. The record features artists who have either been to - or played at - the Freerotation music festival that occurs every July in Wales. AMR Chief Director Malcolm Moore, who makes an appearance on this EP, was inspired by the festival and the music showcased there. Malcolm's track, "They Just Don't Know You," is a melodic, acid-tinged middle finger to all those in the industry who make assumptions about others based on perception. This first cut features a baseline that grows harsher as the song progresses. The second track, by up-and-comer Natan H (Jordan Hochenbaum) of Gauss (Batti-Batti) offers a belter of his own in "Cruisin'" that starts off innocuously enough but then grows into a bona-fide, acid-bathed heater at its apex. On the flip, things continue with "Ungentle Into That Good Night" from Chicago Skyway, a longtime AMR family member. As in previous releases on the label, this track features him on the deeper, darker side, yet is still quintessential Skyway with snares, kicks, and high-hats drizzled throughout. A muted, macabre pad swells up from the start, then intertwines with a similarly dark, filtered lead through the remainder of the cut. Finally, Mick Welch, an understated artist from the UK, closes out the EP with "Tetra Hi", a rimshot-infused, arpeggiated number blended with velvety keyboard leads.

In 2017, D'Marc Cantu released the critically-acclaimed "The Lodge" LP on Altered Moods, which was the first chapter in a two-part story. The second part is now incoming, in the form of a remix EP of one of the most popular cuts on the album, "S. E. G." The new record contains both the original track and three remixes created by both up-and-coming and legendary artists in the industry. It closes the story of D'Marc Cantu stepping completely out of his own comfort zone to visit the ultra deep side of house music Starting off on the front side is the original mix and an exquisitely atmospheric reshape by the one and only Larry Heard (aptly titled the "Atmospheric Mix"). He chops up the original and sprinkles it into a spicy stew of his most cherished chords and keys. On the flip, Altered Moods chief director Malcolm Moore puts his spin on the original with a rapid, charged-up number filled with bubbly leads, boxy drums, and jazzy keys. Finally, Chicago Skyway comes through with a really hot jack mix that starts out mellow before ramping up and bringing the whole EP as well as the story itself, full circle.

Altered Moods Recordings makes its first artist foray into Asia, more specifically, it sets its sights on Nagano, Japan, where it finds a fertile and quickly expanding underground scene and one of its key players, Yoshiki Tsuchiya, also known as Miruga. Miruga has made a big splash in his relatively short arc as an underground artist. He came out strong in 2012 with "Human Tube" on Anton Zap's bellwether Ethereal Sound label after a full-length digital album on Logos Recordings two years prior. The Ethereal Sounds release brought V/A opportunities on Statik Entertainment, Rawthenticity, and Badance, as well as a guest appearance on Keith Worthy's worldly Aesthetic Audio label with "The Unusual Suspects, Vol. 1." It's that connection that was the clicher for us to sign him - not because of that label's notoriety, but because of how well Miruga attends to his craft.

Altered Moods Recordings releases its next vinyl EP "Octaves of Energy". This three-tracker by Crawley, UK-based artist Mick Welch is a smooth, sultry adventure into the core ethos of AMR music. Mick is no stranger to the deep house sound. Starting in 2002, he has built a strong following of fans in the UK, first with his ElektroSouls mix site and shortly after that with his label of the same name. The "Octaves of Energy" release represents his latest foray into the deepness. "Conscious Field" kicks things off with a tambourine- and high-hat infused beat with rich, dark leads burbling up throughout, interrupted now and then by a wistful bridge with an echoing voice telling you not to be afraid. "Mind Force" is another laid back jam, with a bright, crisp cowbell intertwine with an accouterment of lush pads and silky leads. The final track on the flip side, "Octave 50," is the deepest cut of the three and also the easiest to work the dance floor with. With its sinewy, filtered pad and bubbly bass line combined with warm, warbling leads, it fits both in the studio and at the club.
