The Facets series showcases 8 tracks pressed on four 7"s. The tracks are carefully selected from Gone Beyond's production archives. Showcasing his sonic tapestries, chunky breaks, layers of samples, as Gone Beyond further explores and unearths loops off dusty vinyl long forgotten. On the eight tracks, Gone Beyond explores spiritual jazz, fusion, world beat, psych, and more, including studio collaborations with friends and instrumentalists. The improv solos and spoken word are balanced with tight, sample-based compositions, and experimental arrangements, which all hold their respective place in the series. The series begins with "After the Storm" and "Movement Out", on Facet #1 which are collaborations with unknown talent Bill Russell, who Gone met through a mutual friend in Santa Fe. Bill, originally from Kansas City, retired in Santa Fe after a long career as a railroad engineer. "I don't know much about Bill, except that he was a close friend of Sun Ra's, and I just about died when he showed me a full crate of hand painted Sun Ra titles from the El Saturn label, and original letters which Bill casually mentioned were written to him from "Sunny." We shared a love for spiritual jazz, and being that he was very involved in the 60s and 70s jazz scene, I was humbled and honored to hear his first-hand accounts of the inception of spiritual jazz, and his early days as a promoter". Their mutual affection for labels like Strata East, Nimbus, Black Jazz, and Black Saint led to a brief collaboration on "After The Storm," "Movement Out," and "Construction on 5th St." where Bill reads excerpts from various sources, including original poetry, and some of Sun Ra's own words. "I wish I knew how to get hold of Bill so I could send him a few of these 45s, and I am not sure if he is still alive, but I am thankful to have vibed with him, and am honored to share these releases with you. It was a treat to absorb a bit of that transmission from an original source, and hopefully the impact carries through in the recordings."
