Six long years have passed since ‘From A Scarecrows Perspective’ revealed Leaf’s unmistakable voice to the rap world. The true beauty of a musical hiatus is when the fans remain feverish for a return. In Leaf Dog’s case, his movements between solo outings have seen him extend both his vision as RLD Records boss, producer extraordinaire, 1/4 of The Four Owls and 1/2 of Brothers Of The Stone, power moves that have taken him to the highest reaches of the scene, however, make no mistake, when it comes to true, uncut introspection, it was always going to be about that second solo instalment.
The wait is over. Leaf Dog is back.
‘Dyslexic Disciple’ is an anthology of the life lessons that shaped Leaf’s world over the past half decade. A world TOTALLY dominated by hip hop culture. Constant touring, selling-out shows, working with a near-endless list of rap royalty along the way; ‘Dyslexic Disciple’ is as much an anthology of all-of-the-above as it is autobiographical and observational.
Sixteen tracks, all hits, ‘Dyslexic Disciple’ represents PRECISELY what both Leaf Dog and moreover, High Focus Records have championed since the very start, namely, spreading uncut perspectives, providing a voice for the UK and remaining completely focused on the championing of ‘real’ hip hop music to the masses. With an all-star list of features including label cohorts Fliptrix, Dirty Dike, Dabbla, BVA, alongside Smellington Piff and LEGENDARY names such as Kool Keith, Jehst, Task Force and Phi Life Cypher bolstering the message, we suspect that ‘Dyslexic Disciple’ may well be the best example of the HF mission statement to date.
