Flunk's debut album 'For Sleepyheads Only' from 2002 is still one of their greatest success. Spearheaded by a critically acclaimed downbeat version of New Order's 'Blue Monday', the album has received well deserved recognition around the world. Both 'Blue Monday' and other tracks was featured on a more than 20 compilations around the globe, and the album was out on license in US, Greece and Russia. Flunk is still going strong, their sixth album 'Chemistry And Math' was released last autumn. The original LP version was a slightly shortened single LP version, omitting two tracks. This vinyl LP has been out of print for a long time. For this reprint, the full album is now finally out on vinyl, spanning the first 3 sides of a double LP set. The fourth side adds three bonus tracks.

Seriously, how is it possible to spend two years and four months making a pop music album? It's obviously not because of a fetish with technical perfection. Not a single take on 'Chemistry and Math' has been recorded in a recording studio. It is all living room, bedroom or kitchen table work. Which is the way we have recorded almost all Flunk albums. So really, how does it take 28 months to put together 10 tracks of alternative, lo-fi pop music? Well, life? Just life. We're busy with stuff like everybody else, ordinary stuff. And it's all in there, really. In the air in the recordings and in-between the lines of words.'Chemistry and Math' might be about how you acknowledge the inevitability of the rules and patterns and natural laws, it's not so much mystery, it's math, and chemistry, and hormones, and a constant chaos of coincidence. In there are also a lot of pop music references, some obvious one, some slightly hidden. 'Chemistry and Math' is installed in a bleak and more distorted soundscape, reflecting the mood of the world thrown at us in a fucked up era.

Kohib, AKA Øivind Sjøvoll from Sortland in the north of Norway, has been an important part of the club-scene in the town of Tromsø (the birthplace of the Northern Disco scene) since 1997, first as a DJ, later as a club organizer. In 2012, he started a string of dancefloor EP's, and the first one, "Solar Day EP", had a fairly limited distribution outside Norway. So, here is finally a "proper" re-release! The "Solar Day EP" is a rousing four-tracker of superb dance tunes. The selection features prime examples of Norwegian electronic music ranging from nu-disco to slinky house music to downtempo electronica. "So Good" leads the pack with a high charged house music rhythm, fancy bursts of percussion and bass line pulsations, and the appealing vocals of Dagny (yes, "that" Dagny, of "Backbeat", "Wearing Nothing" and "Love You Like That" fame) which beckon the listener to "take off all your clothes and dance with me!" This one's begging for immediate deployment on the dance floor. Kohib touches on more Italo-flavored grooviness with "Don't Tease The Bumblebee" which rides and glides like the flying insect in the title should. A bouncy low end and floating synths add to the cosmic romp. "Escape Velocity" lessens the tempo but fizzles with intriguing elements and melodies. Seemingly plucked synth lines and rolling, reverb-ed arpeggios evoke slow-motion bob-sledding across the Norwegian tundra. The set closes with the eponymous "Solar Day", a mildly uplifting piece withdriving drums, buzzy, throbbing synth action, and more delicious Italo-inspired loveliness. This one builds to a stirring climax and closes the EP in grand style.

Legs 11 was formed when members of various underground bands in Oslo, Norway, met during a karaoke-fuelled haze in the seedy parts of Oslo, and discovered a shared love of synth pop, post-punk, new wave and house music. Drawing on these influences, the band has created a diverse musical universe, ranging from dark repetitive guitar driven tracks, via infectious pop gems, to deep yet melodic dancefloor-orientated grooves. The 'Another Wave' album is hand-picked tracks from their latest works, focusing on a more dancier approach. The house and nu-dance influences of today are mixed with heavy influences from 90's UK indie-dance acts like The Shamen and the Madchester scene, and hints of new wave from the 80's.

Prima Norsk 1-3 was a series of compilation CD's released on Beatservice Records in 2000, 2003 and 2005. "Prima Norsk" was a slogan for Norwegian vegetables back then, meaning something like "1st class Norwegian". First adopted to a club concept, and then re-adopted for the compilations series. The concept for these compilations was to collect and present house-tracks from Norwegian producers, available on more or less limited vinyl 12"-ers on various European labels (some self-released), and a few exclusive tracks. Now, the Norwegian house scene is more alive than ever, and thanks to the digital revolution, the worldwide availability is far better than it was at the time of Prima Norsk 1-3. Prima Norsk 4 is thus focusing on exclusive tracks from the vibrating scene of today. The compilation includes exclusive material from artist already familiar on the international house scene, along with fresh stuff from new names.
