Sonor Music Editions is thrilled to release another terrific jam and a very obscure Italian Library record originally released in 1969 on RRC label (Droga, Traffico, Viaggio Attraverso I Problemi Dell'Uomo series etc.). Music is signed by the great guitar players and composers Angelo Baroncini and Bruno Battisti D'Amario, unmissable guitar man of Maestro Ennio Morricone. CRAZY early Fuzz beats with fast Western swings, Experimental Rock distractions, musical rhythmic movements with totally insane acid guitar & sitar riffs and a huge Underground Psychedelic mood. A truly inspired and deep session recorded for some impossible TV synchronisation purpose. Holy grail alert and original sleazy STEREO recording restored sound.

Songwriter. Guitarist. Singer. Bandleader. At only 20 years of age, Marcus King’s dazzling musical ability is evident throughout The Marcus King Band, the young phenom’s 2nd full-length LP. Raised in Greenville, South Carolina, King was brought up on the blues, playing shows as a pre-teen sideman with his father—bluesman Marvin King, who himself was the son of a regionally-known guitarist—before striking out on his own. Operating within the fiery brand of American roots music that King calls "soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock," the album highlights King’s gorgeous, rough-hewn vocals, soaring guitar work and heartfelt songwriting all amidst a group of masterful musicians who, together, are quickly becoming one of the country’s most sought after live acts.

Afro and Rock: now that’s a pretty good combination any day of the week chez LoveLee but in the masterful hands of John Cameron (founder of ace Brit Prog outfit CCS, composer of the cult sound tracks to Kes and Psycomania, and musical arranger for the likes of Donovan, Hot Chocolate, Heatwave and David Essex) and Alan Parker (erm, he wrote the theme to Angels. Note to Alan – ask John who made his website for him) the juxtaposition of these two words kicks up a boat load more breaks and funky atmospherics than can safely be navigated up the Zambezi, with or without Audrey Hepburn A quick word of warning; if you’re the kind of crate digger who’s heart misses a beat at phrases like “repetitive forceful riffs” and “aggressive Afro rhythms” you had better pre-book an ambulance before slipping this baby in to your compact disc player and dealing with the ensuing onslaught of nasty wah wah guitars, fiery conga work outs, heavy harps (really), spacey electric piano, far out flutes and lots and lots of drums. His fourth longplayer from 1964 and his first and only all acoustic affair of which originals from the very first and scarce pressing fetch prices up to $1000 in good condition. Backed by some big names from the blues community such as Willie Dixon on standing bass and a young Buddy Guy on second acoustic guitar Waters created an album with 'Folk Singer' that was reduced to the bare bones. That means on the other hand that every of the few notes played on wooden guitars is so meaningful and vibrant.

A favorite off the recommended list by The Absolute Sound magazine, and, as expressed in the liner notes, Harry Belafonte's favorite recording. Belafonte has never before sung on records as he does in this album. He is freer, more earthy, more exultantly identified with his material than ever before. He has always communicated an often ferocious power as well as lyrical sensitivity, but in this collection he achieves a unity of emotional strength in and understanding of his material that marks an important stage in his evolution as an artist.Includes classic songs "Cotton Fields", "God Bless' The Child", "Hallelujah I Love Her So". Recorded in New York City in January and March 1958, and in Hollywood, California, in June 1958.As the liner notes by Nat Hentoff state, there is not much to say about the individual performances that is not entirely clear on hearing them. Truly a classic for discerning audiophiles, "Belafonte Sings The Blues" was the first Belafonte album recorded in stereo. The sound is incredible, and the dead-silent backgrounds of QRP 200-gram vinyl preserve every exquisite detail! This is one of Belafonte's most satisfying set of performances.

Louisiana delta native Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter is the master of twelve-string blues guitar. His story is one of high-highs and low-lows, from serving stints in prison after killing a man in a fight for a woman’s heart, but then eventually earning early release by entertaining his fellow prison-mates and penning a song for the governor, thus cementing his reputation of singing his way out of prison. Folklorists John and Alan Lomax were early supporters that brought Lead Belly to the attention of Ivy Leaguers as well as a European audience. His songs have been widely covered by artists such as Elvis, Nirvana, Johnny Cash, and the Grateful Dead.Single LP with single pocket tip-on jacket with soft touch finish

John E. Tinsley was born in 1920 in Chestnut Mountain, Virginia and later moved to Henry County in an area just outside of Martinsville. According to the liner notes of Smithsonian Folkways Compilation Virginia Traditions: West Piedmont Blues, which featured two John Tinsley recordings, Tinsley began playing guitar at the age of 15, at the behest of his neighbor. He would go on to be influenced by other Piedmont and East Coast bluesmen such as Blind Boy Fuller, Josh White and Buddy Moss. However, it wasn't until 1952 that Tinsley and friend, Fred Holland, first recorded any of Tinsley's repertoire. Bassett, Virginia's Mutual Records released “Truble Blues” and “Keep Your Hands Off Her” as a 78 that year. Following the poor sales of the “Truble Blues” 78, a discouraged Tinsley briefly left the world of secular music behind, playing religious music exclusively in the mid-1950s and 60s. Yet, flash forward to 1978 to find Tinsley recording the session featured on this reissue of “Country Blues Roots Revived” for the primarily Bluegrass label Outlet Recordings, accompanied on most cuts by his son William on piano and J.P. Young on harmonica. This recording has not been available since the 70s and is a rarity treasured by lovers of the Piedmont blues style. This co-release by Manufactured Recordings and Steady Sounds also includes his lone 78 release on Mutual as a Bonus 7”.

Sonthaya Kalasin was the male lead singer in in the molam section of legendary producer/impresario Surin Paksiri's beloved musical troupe Tidso Lam Phloen; his female counterpart was Phairin Phonphibun. These recordings, the very best of Kalasin's work with Paksiri, cover the period from the mid-70s to the early 80s and showcase Kalasin's mastery of the traditional male molam lower vocal range. Also highlighted here are Paksiri's production skills and his penchant for pushing the boundaries of standard molam arrangements and instrumentation, always trying to fuse new ideas with tradition. An uncredited Phairin Phonphibun makes an appearance on a few tracks here, giving lucky listeners a glimpse of the singers' Tidso Lam Phloen dynamism: Paksiri's genius, a long-standing backing band, and simpatico vocal styles honed in the crucible of performance. This is the first CD release of any music from Sonthaya's years with Surin Paksiri and as such represent a valuable document, with accompanying English lyric translations; but more than a document, "Grade A Guy" is grade A music.

LP | 1963 | EU | Reissue (Go! Bop!)

This is the reissue of the second album by Johnny Guitar Watson originally released on Chess in 1963. Johnny was already a well praised musician in the field of jazz, rhythm & blues and a popular sidekick for early rock'n'roll heroes such as Little Richard when he recorded this beautiful album. Despite the title of the album it mostly contains a swinging and accessible vocal jazz with an irresistible groove and instrumental passages. Johnny Guitar Watson does not even play guitar on this record but gets ballistic on the piano and lays down some striking vocals with his distinctive voice. The overall pace is relaxed and so is the music that has a bit of a retro feeling already being steadily rooted in the 40s and 50s swing and vocal jazz but Johnny Guitar Watson and his mates on drums and bass really pull it off with a fresh and exciting edge. A steaming song like “I'll remember April” might be an exception. But this is an instrumental with furious piano lines and a nearly Latin beat that recalls a bossa nova dance tune just played in a more hot blooded style. The overall performance is top notch and so is the clear and sappy sound. Even a creamy ballad like “Polka dots and moonbeams” has its relevance in the entire musical picture. These two songs may show the edges of his style for “The blues soul of...”. They present an inspired bandleader and musician anyway. No wonder he reinvented his own style a decade later when funk and soul started to dominate the black music scene. Still the music sounds and feels like the cover of the album shows it. Here you can see a very well dressed and styled young man playing chess alone in front of the fireplace. And the album really turns this picture into music. Well executed, well produced, perfectly styled but still spirited and passionate. Mr. Watson managed to live in both parallel worlds. The mansions and the backstreets echo his melodies. He was a visionary at each stage of his career. If you love the outstanding 1950s and 1960s vocal jazz, this will be the thing for you!

After years of gigging around the east Nigerian music scene, Foundars 15 finally hit the jackpot when they recruited legendary bass player, Marshall Udo. Charismatic and confident, Udo immediately energised the band, bringing a new funky and psychedelic vibe as well as a bunch of songs he’d workshopped with the Funkees. The tone of the album is set early. Nek Adirika’s searing guitar lick announces ‘We Are On The Move’, a track that is both funky and determined. ‘Co-operation’ is a horn-driven slab of ghetto funk. ‘Cool and Good (For Love)’ is a psychedelic wig-out. ‘Work To Success’ could well be the new-look Foundars 15 manifesto set to music. While Marshall Udo was undoubtedly the catalyst, Co-operation is very much a group effort. Udo, Sony Enang, Nek Adirika and Ike Peters each provide songs and the musicianship of each player is impeccable. Every track is super-tight and sophisticated. This is the sound of a band that means business. It’s also why Co-operation is widely regarded as one of the great Afro-Funk rock albums of all time. - Peter Moore

Danny Offia’s Funk With Me is a prime slab of Nigerian Boogie. Sinewy and urbane, it’s the soundtrack of Lagos in the early eighties. The city was awash with oil money, clubs were booming and every night was a party night – the perfect place for a man with a great voice, a white suit and seductively-clutched packet of B&H Golds. Funk With Me was recorded in London with a crack team of session musicians. Drummer Blair Cunningham was from Memphis and had played with Robert Johnson. Sax player Ray Carless was regarded as the London jazz scene’s best-kept secret. Engineer Duncan Bridgeman would go on to work with Duran Duran. Danny Offia brought the songs and the Lagos attitude. ‘Funk With Me’ is a certified party starter. ’10 Years In Love’ and ‘Weak For You’ are sophisticated groovers. ‘Sat Nite (Is A Party Nite)’ is guaranteed to get any girl on the dancefloor, while ‘Don’t Make Me Cry’ is smooth enough take her home. Funk With Me is Lagos in an album – cosmopolitan, sexy and witty with an energy and spirit, all of its own. - Peter Moore

William Onyeabor wasn’t the only Nigerian experimenting with synthesizers in the 70s and 80s. Goldfinger Doe was twiddling knobs too, no more so than on Let’s Dance Together – a prime slab of cosmic Afro boogie funk, recorded with legendary percussionist, Mike Umoh (a.k.a B.M.S.) Goldfinger met Umoh playing with Bongos Ikwue & The Groovies. Bass player Bashiru Musa, was a fellow Groovie too, and when the three hit the studio to record Let’s Dance Together, the groove was already tight and hot. The title track, ‘Let’s Dance Together’, is an urgent boogie monster, peppered with cosmic synths. ‘Funky Africa’ is an irresistible floor-filler, driven by the ‘funk in the black soil and the soul in the air.’ ‘Jah Help Us’ is a reggae-tinged reworking of the Lord’s Prayer, with added squelchy synth. ‘B.M.S. Bowl’? It’s just an excuse for Umoh to show off his preposterous percussive skills. Goldfinger’s extraordinary synth skills are always front and centre. They transform ‘Jane’, providing a humorous commentary in an otherwise straightforward romantic lament, and propel the funkier tracks to become the heartbeat of the album. Let’s Dance Together is an Afro Funk space ship, fuelled up and ready to take off. - Peter Moore

The 1970s in Nigeria were an age when mighty bands walked the earth. In Lagos, afro-rock stalwarts such as BLO and Monomono ruled the roost, eastwards, it was deeply funky groups like The Funkees, The Apostles and The Friimen. Up north you had soulful ensembles such as The Elcados and The Moonrakers. And in the southeast, you had Foundars 15.Foundars 15 were not the only rock band operating in the southern city of Port Harcourt, but they were without question the tightest and most eclectic not just in Port Harcourt but perhaps in Nigeria as a whole. Formed initially as an army band in the wake of the Nigerian civil war of 1967-1970, Foundars 15 released a string of singles in the early seventies, followed by four albums of heavy, jittery funk-rock between 1976 and 1978 before splitting up to pursue solo careers.1977’s Fire Woman is perhaps the finest (and rarest) of Foundars 15’s albums, offering a spicy buffet of groovy pop, reggae, native rock and dense, off-kilter funk. Long sought after by aficionados, Fire Woman has been an LP that is more often heard about than actually heard. That is about to change.Comb & Razor Sound is proud to present a new, fully-authorized reissue of Fire Woman, featuring eight crucial cuts representing the gold standard of the golden age of Nigerian pop music. Here’s your chance to catch the fire!

Blind Faith Records is proud to unveil one of blues music’s true hidden gems, Caron ‘Sugaray’ Rayford. At 6’5,” Sugaray is a vocal giant in every sense, but on stage he moves with pure grace and energy. His music has even been endorsed by the legendary Brian Wilson, who could hear the star quality in this undiscovered jewel. Somehow, to most people, he has managed to slip through the net, but not any more. Italian soul ambassador Luca Sapio made it his mission to bring Sugaray’s music to the forefront and tracked him down to record his latest album, ‘The World That We Live In.' It was recorded in Luca’s analogue studio in Italy, with racks of vintage gear and a killer house band. What they have so magically created is an album which sounds like an instant classic. When Sugaray belts out a song, you not only hear it, you feel it. The excitement in the room is palpable when he takes to the stage; his dynamic voice is large just like the man and stands up to comparisons with all-time greats of soul, blues and old-school R&B such as Solomon Burke, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and Teddy Pendergrass. Texas-born Sugaray began his musical career at the tender age of seven, singing and playing drums in church, and his gospel influences definitely shine through in his music. The soulful gravel in his voice hints at his first-hand experience with hardship, and a childhood marked by poverty and loss. With the help of Blind Faith Records, Sugaray is focused on presenting his latest project, ‘The World That We Live In,' a collection of ten original songs and his debut soul album, to the world. It carries the gift of universal appeal that towers above tastes and trends, and it's an album destined to become an instant classic.

Recorded in a shaky makeshift chicken shack in rural Maryland, Link Wray’s eponymous 1971 solo album is a compelling and forward-looking piece of honest, handmade Americana. This album is vastly different from his previous work, foregoing instrumentals entirely. Instead, Wray, left with only one lung following a bout with tuberculosis in 1956, gives us his raw voice, full of spit and vinegar, as he blends elements of country, rock ‘n’ roll, roots, folk and gospel marked with fuzzy guitar and booming percussion. He kicks off with a track, “La De Da”, that may be the greatest song the Stones never wrote. Elsewhere, the single “Fallin’ Rain” channels Dylan at his most political, with lyrics about “stabbings and shootings and young men dying all around.” Link Wray proved to be the only album that the guitarist issued in his own name to hit the American charts during his nearly 50-year recording career. Although it didn’t receive much critical acclaim at the time of its release, Link Wray has seen a resurgence in recent years and developed a cult following, with artists from Nick Cave to The Neville Brothers recording versions of its tracks.Link Wray’s musical journey began early, with his father Fred taking up the family music business. Link, along with brothers Vernon and Doug began playing together professionally in 1942, their rowdy instrumental single “Rumble” charting at number 16 in 1958. Following a string of hits on Philadelphia-based Swan Records, Vernon began to serve as the family’s producer, eventually starting his own studio; first in the basement of his home and then–after his wife Evelyn complained about the noise–in a converted shack on the property. It was there that Link, Vernon and producer Steve Verroca found a sound that marked “a return to simplicity.” This carefully remastered reissue will take you right back to that chicken shack, and to sessions so electric you can almost feel the atmosphere. This is the first reissue of this classic album.

The American Epic historical documentaries are a journey back in time to the “Big Bang” of modern popular music. In the 1920s, as radio took over the pop music business, record companies were forced to leave their studios in major cities in search of new styles and markets. Ranging the mountains, prairies, rural villages, and urban ghettos of America, they discovered a wealth of unexpected talent. The recordings they made of all the ethnic groups of America democratized the nation and gave a voice to everyone. Country singers in the Appalachians, Blues guitarists in the Mississippi Delta, Gospel preachers across the south, Cajun fiddlers in Louisiana, Tejano groups from the Texas Mexico border, Native American drummers in Arizona, and Hawaiian musicians were all recorded. For the first time, a woman picking cotton in Mississippi, a coalminer in Virginia or a tobacco farmer in Tennessee could have their thoughts and feelings heard on records played in living rooms across the country. It was the first time America heard itself.American Epic: The Soundtrack, is a 15 song single disc anthology of songs featured in the American Epic film trilogy. Compiled by Lo-Max Records, it includes restored archival recordings from artists such as Memphis Jug Band, The Carter Family, Charley Patton, Joseph Falcon, Lydia Mendoza and others.

Texas slide guitarist and gospel bluesman Blind Willie Johnson recorded only 30 songs over the course of his life as a preacher and street performer. Even so, the savvy combination of his gritty and powerful “chest voice” singing style coupled with his mastery of slide guitar (some report he regularly used a knife as a slide) has given him a notably influential legacy, specifically with later bluesmen Howlin’ Wolf and Robert Johnson. His tune “Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground” was selected for Carl Sagan’s Voyager probe Golden Record, the Library of Congress as well as the National Recording Registry.Single LP with single pocket tip-on jacket with soft touch finish

"Do you speak Spanish", fragte dieser, was Booker mit den Worten "That's whyI'm going" verneinte. I going to be a witness? And in today’sworld, is that enough?"

Limited edition for Record Store Day 2017!Fred Lincoln ‘Link’ Wray, Jr. (1929-2005) born of Shawnee Native American parents was an American rock and roll guitarist, songwriter and vocalist who became popular in the late 1950s. Though he began in country music, his musical style went on to consist primarily of rock and roll, rockabilly and instrumental rock. Building on the distorted electric guitar sound of early records, his 1958 instrumental hit "Rumble" (banned in New York and Boston for fear it would incite teenage gang violence) popularized "the power chord” which laid the foundation to modern rock music.Link’s previous releases had proven the man's versatility with influences coming from many different genres including R&B, country, blues, and, of course, rock. ‘Be What You Want To’ continues this trend: a thick stew of boogie-rock, country-funk and Americana with lots of soul.Wray employed a huge number of musicians to play on ‘Be What You Want To’, including Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia, Thomas Jefferson Kaye & Commander Cody. Of course, the main part of the talent comes from Link Wray himself. His amazing ability as lyricist, songwriter, and musician is noticeably brought to the fore on this album.Originally released on Polydor, this is the first time the album gets the vinyl treatment since 1973. Now available as a gorgeously packaged deluxe vinyl edition, exclusively for Record Store Day 2017.

Building on the distorted electric guitar sound of early records, his 1958 instrumental hit "Rumble" (banned in New York and Boston for fear it would incite teenage gang violence) popularized "the power chord” which laid the foundation to modern rock music.Tiring of the corporate music machine, in the 1970s he began recording albums using a three-track studio he converted from an outbuilding on his brother's property that his father used to raise chickens. This is where the Beans and Fatback sessions were recorded in 1971, making it part of what we now know as the ‘Shack Trilogy’ together with the albums ‘Link Wray’ & ‘Mordicai Jones’. “Beans and Fatback” is made out of fantastic Americana blended blues, country, gospel, Native American chants, folk rock and traditionals such as ‘Hobo Man’ and ‘Georgia Pines’ (the latter a rewrite of Lead Belly’s ‘In the Pines). Producer Steve Verroca had, allegedly, stolen the demo tapes of “Beans and Fatback” and sold them to Virgin Records who later withdrew the album.Link Wray leaves a legacy as big as his career: Rolling Stone placed Wray at No. 45 of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time and in 2013 he was a nominee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Pete Townshend of The Who once said, "If it hadn't been for Link Wray and 'Rumble,' I never would have picked up a guitar." Other musicians citing him as a major influence are Iggy Pop, Neil Young & Jimmy Page (amongst others).Originally released on Virgin Records in 1973, this is the first time the album gets a vinyl release outside of Europe. First ever reissue of the sought after album FOURTH SENSATION, originally released in 1970. The band was formed by Ares Tavolazzi (I Giganti, Area) - who later was an active session musician as well as being a leading figure in the Italian jazz scene, accompanying Gil Evans, Steve Lacy, Max Roach, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, Franco D'Andrea and many others - on guitar, Ellade Bandini on drums, keyboardist Vince Tempera - who, a few years later formed the progressive supergroup Il Volo with Mario Lavezzi and Alberto Radius and, in the late '70s, composed a myriad of memorable TV and Cartoon themes - and Angelo Vaggi on bass.Musically, the project is precisely within the context of the year it was released, which coincided in Italy with the decline of the Beat and the advent of the Underground and Psychedelic movements; in the Italian scene it inaugurated a trend of records of this type such as The Underground Set (1970), Blue Phantom "Distortions" (1971), Psycheground Group (1971), Chimenti “Droga" (1972) and others, still objects of worship by collectors worldwide. The composers of the songs are known to Library Music lovers, namely they are Stefano Torossi, Giuliano Sorgini, Massimo Catalano and Sandro Brugnolini. Musically it is undeniable the technical skill of the 4 interpreters in the 10 tracks here, all curiously titled with the names of women, they are alternately a mix of acid blues, soul jazz, funk and psychedelia, with the Hammond organ of Tempera in the foreground.

Im Sogwasser des im Frühjahr 2016 veröffentlichten Albums "Know Where To Run" schiebt Barry Adamsoneine sechs Songs fassende EP hinterher.

Bluesman. Sharecropper. Church deacon. Civil Rights activist. Hayes McMullan should be a name on every Blues aficionados’ short-list and thanks to the preservation fieldwork carried out by one of the genre’s greatest researchers some 50 years ago – it might soon be.Born in 1902, Hayes McMullan was discovered by the renowned American roots scholar, collector and documentarian Gayle Dean Wardlow. Wardlow, author of the seminal blues anthology „Chasin' That Devil Music“ - Searching for the Blues, may be most famous for uncovering Robert Johnson's death certificate in 1968, finally revealing clues to the bluesman’s mysterious and much disputed demise. Moreover, in his tireless and committed mission to preserve the Blues for future generations, he captured McMullan’s raw talent on tape and on paper. Wardlow recorded these sessions, transcribed the songs and now, writes the sleeve-notes for this landmark release.Wardlow and McMullan met by chance on one of the former’s record-hunting trips, in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, in 1967. Having introduced himself to McMullan on a hunch, it turned out this unassuming elderly man had not only heard of Wardlow’s idol, Charley Patton, but had played alongside him in the 1920s, as part of a brief musical journey that took him from the plantation to the open roads and juke joints of the Depression-era South. Striking up a friendship that was deemed unorthodox in 1960’s Mississippi, Wardlow traveled to McMullan’s sharecropper’s shack and convinced him to play guitar for the first time since he quit the Blues for the Church in the 30’s. “Hayes was playing like no one I had ever heard,” Wardlow writes with amazement.Wardlow visited McMullan on a handful of occasions, always taking his recorder, a guitar and some whiskey with him. It was during these visits that Wardlow captured – with surprising clarity – the songs that make up Everyday Seem Like Murder Here.Hayes McMullan passed away at the age of 84 in 1986, his talent and legacy largely unknown. “Reflecting now on our brief time together, I marvel at the small glimpse of something much larger I was lucky to have captured,” writes Wardlow. “The few old snapshots I took, the handful of tunes we recorded, and his brilliant performance of “Hurry Sundown” captured on film are all that’s left of the musical legacy of Hayes McMullan, sharecropper, deacon, and—unbeknownst to so many for so long—reluctant bluesman.”All tracks are previously unreleased except track #3. All audio got remastered from original tapesThis 2LP is housed in a beautiful deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket and comes with liner notes by blues historians Gayle Dean Wardlow & John Miller and unseen photos.

Bessie Smith dominated what has become known as ‘classic blues’. Living every day as though it were her last was hardly conducive to a long life, but it gave the singer experience of suffering which she brought out in her singing. Not that Bessie was lacking in humour; the recordings of more comic material are every bit as red blooded as her articulation of disillusionment and hurt. One of the most important and influential slide guitarists and vocalists of the early electric blues era, James was born and raised in Richland, Mississippi before, like so many other blues legends, ending up in Chicago, performing in the legendary juke joints of the south side.
