It probably isn't surprising to learn that Hoyle's solo debut, cut following the final dissolution of Affinity in 1971, does not deviate too far from that band's jazz-rock modus operandi. However, in seeking to trim the instrumental fat from Affinity's sometimes gruelling work-outs, and concentrate the attention on the songs (and lyrics) themselves, it rises far above its role model, to showcase Hoyle as a far more exciting figure than her footnotes in history would have you believe.

Afro and Rock: now that’s a pretty good combination any day of the week chez LoveLee but in the masterful hands of John Cameron (founder of ace Brit Prog outfit CCS, composer of the cult sound tracks to Kes and Psycomania, and musical arranger for the likes of Donovan, Hot Chocolate, Heatwave and David Essex) and Alan Parker (erm, he wrote the theme to Angels. Note to Alan – ask John who made his website for him) the juxtaposition of these two words kicks up a boat load more breaks and funky atmospherics than can safely be navigated up the Zambezi, with or without Audrey Hepburn A quick word of warning; if you’re the kind of crate digger who’s heart misses a beat at phrases like “repetitive forceful riffs” and “aggressive Afro rhythms” you had better pre-book an ambulance before slipping this baby in to your compact disc player and dealing with the ensuing onslaught of nasty wah wah guitars, fiery conga work outs, heavy harps (really), spacey electric piano, far out flutes and lots and lots of drums. Tim “Love” Lee.

New Bottles Old Medicineis the 1970 debut from British group Medicine Head, a duo at the time, that had only shortly before been discovered by legendary DJ John Peel, who immediately signed them to his Dandelion record label. One of the more enigmatic and inventive groups of the British folk-rock scene, the duo's leader, John Fiddler would simultaneously sing, play guitar and operate a bass drum and hi-hat cymbal with his foot, while bandmate Peter Hope-Evans would play harmonica, jew's harp, and various percussion instruments. Creating a sound that was simultaneously ethereal and earthy, and with a voice that touched on the heartbroken vibes of Nick Drake and John Martyn, Medicine Head are truly one of the most brilliant groups of early 70s UK scene and rarely get the attention they deserve. This deluxe 180 gram vinyl reissue hopes to help right that wrong.

And I know no onecan sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell“. Andere Künstler die von ihm beeinflusst wurden, sind Taj Mahal, Alvin Youngblood Hart,Ralph McTell, Chris Smither und die White Stripes.

Sonthaya Kalasin was the male lead singer in in the molam section of legendary producer/impresario Surin Paksiri's beloved musical troupe Tidso Lam Phloen; his female counterpart was Phairin Phonphibun. These recordings, the very best of Kalasin's work with Paksiri, cover the period from the mid-70s to the early 80s and showcase Kalasin's mastery of the traditional male molam lower vocal range. Also highlighted here are Paksiri's production skills and his penchant for pushing the boundaries of standard molam arrangements and instrumentation, always trying to fuse new ideas with tradition. An uncredited Phairin Phonphibun makes an appearance on a few tracks here, giving lucky listeners a glimpse of the singers' Tidso Lam Phloen dynamism: Paksiri's genius, a long-standing backing band, and simpatico vocal styles honed in the crucible of performance. This is the first CD release of any music from Sonthaya's years with Surin Paksiri and as such represent a valuable document, with accompanying English lyric translations; but more than a document, "Grade A Guy" is grade A music.

“Super Super Blues Band” started out merely as “Super Blues”, a conglomerate of blues pillars Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters and Little Walter. When Little Walter bowed out and was replaced by Howlin’ Wolf, they rightfully threw another Super on the name, and went on to release this burning, irreverent and even sometimes hilarious set of drunken, wild-eyed electric blues. Long form jams roll on in a trance as the trio of blues legends flex egos, talking shit to each other, trading off leads and ducking blasts of unexpected wah-wah guitar lines. Songs are peppered with an incredible level of banter between the trio of bandleaders that predicts the call and response sing- talking of early hip hop, laced with random screams in the background that teeter between celebration and danger. That these three ever got into the same room together is a miracle, and that they produced something so intense, energetic and weird is another almost unbelievable feat. The record is special enough as a stand-alone document of this meeting/melting of the minds before you find out the backing band consists of Hubert Sumlin, Otis Spann and freaking Buddy Guy. Lordy. Might have needed one more “super” in there. The record is pressed on limited colored vinyl.

From the people who brought you 'Hillbillies In Hell'... Grim tales of jailbirds, cutthroats, cuckolds, executioners, murderers and popcorn-dusted escapees. Prison ballads form part of the historic lifeblood of Country music and saw a distinct resurgence after the May 1960 execution of controversial convict Caryl Chessman. Here Iron Mountain Analog Research presents 16 of the very best, many seldom heard since their original release (often on obscure, microscopic or private-press labels). Running the gamut from smooth balladeers of woe to ramshackle and plaintive backyard rockabillies, The Hangman's Blues features fevered declarations of innocence, profound diatribes on capital punishment and mournful odes to that Last Mile. Years in the making - The Hangman's Blues will chill, thrill and bedevil the dreams of all who hear it. Originally issued on forgotten 45s, some of these sides are indescribably rare and are reissued here for the very first time. All in one handy LP package. This release is presented as a limited edition LP with deluxe Gatefold and additional scholarly liner notes by Alvin Lucia! His fourth longplayer from 1964 and his first and only all acoustic affair of which originals from the very first and scarce pressing fetch prices up to $1000 in good condition. Backed by some big names from the blues community such as Willie Dixon on standing bass and a young Buddy Guy on second acoustic guitar Waters created an album with 'Folk Singer' that was reduced to the bare bones. That means on the other hand that every of the few notes played on wooden guitars is so meaningful and vibrant.

A favorite off the recommended list by The Absolute Sound magazine, and, as expressed in the liner notes, Harry Belafonte's favorite recording. Belafonte has never before sung on records as he does in this album. He is freer, more earthy, more exultantly identified with his material than ever before. He has always communicated an often ferocious power as well as lyrical sensitivity, but in this collection he achieves a unity of emotional strength in and understanding of his material that marks an important stage in his evolution as an artist.Includes classic songs "Cotton Fields", "God Bless' The Child", "Hallelujah I Love Her So". Recorded in New York City in January and March 1958, and in Hollywood, California, in June 1958.As the liner notes by Nat Hentoff state, there is not much to say about the individual performances that is not entirely clear on hearing them. Truly a classic for discerning audiophiles, "Belafonte Sings The Blues" was the first Belafonte album recorded in stereo. The sound is incredible, and the dead-silent backgrounds of QRP 200-gram vinyl preserve every exquisite detail! This is one of Belafonte's most satisfying set of performances.

Swingin' Dancefloor Sounds To Blow Your Top'. Double LP-edition on 180 gram vinyl, presented in a heavy gatefold cover, and including linernotes and track info printed on the innersleeves. New musical styles don't appear over night. Rock and Roll didn't explode out of a vacuum and Elvis wasn't the Big Bang (more like the start of rapid inflationary expansion). Before Elvis, there was a massively diverse R&B scene in the States, which today's record buyer is currently enjoying the discovery of through a wealth of compilations and reissue 7-inches. In turn, this music was a development of the sound that came before it, with many of the key players having been instrumental in the swing bands of the '30s and early '40s. 'Savage Rhythm' is a compilation of this fantastic music, documenting the direct lineage from the Jazz and Swing of the '30s through to a more R&B-ready sound of the early '40s, signposting the way ahead for what was to become Jump Blues and eventually Rock and Roll. Compiled by Brighton-based DJ, music lover and vinyl junkie Shamblin Sexton, 'Savage Rhythm' is put together to make the party swing hard. As much a ticket to the good times as a history lesson, 'Savage Rhythm' delivers both with urbane style and swagger. The double vinyl is packaged in a gatefold sleeve with liner notes by Shamblin Sexton. With original artwork by graphic designer Chris Sick, this compilation is a must-have for the vintage kids and R&B heads, as well as the electro-swing DJs and club-goers. 'Savage Rhythm' swings a hefty punch of serious, quality music that is as vibrant and essentially vital today as it was 75 years ago.

Bluesman. Sharecropper. Church deacon. Civil Rights activist. Hayes McMullan should be a name on every Blues aficionados’ short-list and thanks to the preservation fieldwork carried out by one of the genre’s greatest researchers some 50 years ago – it might soon be.Born in 1902, Hayes McMullan was discovered by the renowned American roots scholar, collector and documentarian Gayle Dean Wardlow. Wardlow, author of the seminal blues anthology „Chasin' That Devil Music“ - Searching for the Blues, may be most famous for uncovering Robert Johnson's death certificate in 1968, finally revealing clues to the bluesman’s mysterious and much disputed demise. Moreover, in his tireless and committed mission to preserve the Blues for future generations, he captured McMullan’s raw talent on tape and on paper. Wardlow recorded these sessions, transcribed the songs and now, writes the sleeve-notes for this landmark release.Wardlow and McMullan met by chance on one of the former’s record-hunting trips, in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, in 1967. Having introduced himself to McMullan on a hunch, it turned out this unassuming elderly man had not only heard of Wardlow’s idol, Charley Patton, but had played alongside him in the 1920s, as part of a brief musical journey that took him from the plantation to the open roads and juke joints of the Depression-era South. Striking up a friendship that was deemed unorthodox in 1960’s Mississippi, Wardlow traveled to McMullan’s sharecropper’s shack and convinced him to play guitar for the first time since he quit the Blues for the Church in the 30’s. “Hayes was playing like no one I had ever heard,” Wardlow writes with amazement.Wardlow visited McMullan on a handful of occasions, always taking his recorder, a guitar and some whiskey with him. It was during these visits that Wardlow captured – with surprising clarity – the songs that make up Everyday Seem Like Murder Here.Hayes McMullan passed away at the age of 84 in 1986, his talent and legacy largely unknown. “Reflecting now on our brief time together, I marvel at the small glimpse of something much larger I was lucky to have captured,” writes Wardlow. “The few old snapshots I took, the handful of tunes we recorded, and his brilliant performance of “Hurry Sundown” captured on film are all that’s left of the musical legacy of Hayes McMullan, sharecropper, deacon, and—unbeknownst to so many for so long—reluctant bluesman.”All tracks are previously unreleased except track #3. All audio got remastered from original tapesThis 2LP is housed in a beautiful deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket and comes with liner notes by blues historians Gayle Dean Wardlow & John Miller and unseen photos.

“The Joker” is the eighth album by Steve Miller Band, released in 1973. The album marked a period of significant change for the group as the band abandoned their psychedelic oriented music for a more melodic, smooth Rock/Blues sound. Perhaps not coincidentally, it was also their first solid commercial success due to the strong radio-play of the title track. The title track took 19 days to record. The album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified Platinum in the United States. The artwork of the album is also considered amongst the greatest; for example Rolling Stone would later rank it as one of the "Top 100 Album Covers Of All Time".

Songwriter. Guitarist. Singer. Bandleader. At only 20 years of age, Marcus King’s dazzling musical ability is evident throughout The Marcus King Band, the young phenom’s 2nd full-length LP. Raised in Greenville, South Carolina, King was brought up on the blues, playing shows as a pre-teen sideman with his father—bluesman Marvin King, who himself was the son of a regionally-known guitarist—before striking out on his own. Operating within the fiery brand of American roots music that King calls "soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock," the album highlights King’s gorgeous, rough-hewn vocals, soaring guitar work and heartfelt songwriting all amidst a group of masterful musicians who, together, are quickly becoming one of the country’s most sought after live acts.

We've now taken the extra step and done 45rpm versions of these three standout LPs.We've used the original 30 inches-per-second, half-inch analog master tapes for all of these albums. Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound cut the lacquers for the LPs using the ultimate VMS 80 cutting lathe. Gary Salstrom handled the plating and the vinyl was pressed of course at our Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's finest-sounding LPs. Stevie Ray Vaughan's 1983 debut album, "Texas Flood", was a phenomenal success, climbing into the Top 40 and spending over half a year on the charts, which was practically unheard of for a blues recording. The record plays like a dynamite club show, filled with crowd-pleasing originals and covers, all performed with unbridled enthusiasm. "Texas Flood" was certified gold on August 13, 1990, and certified platinum on January 22, 1992.There's not a link in this production chain that wasn't absolute first-rate. The absolute best that money can buy.But beyond that we've poured our passion into this project. Acoustic Sounds is a big fan of the blues and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Still more adventures in the sleazy world of popcorn noir. Welcome once more to Slow Grind Fever, the soundtrack to Melbourne’s smokiest slow dance party, where they play moody mid-century slow burners for the indolent and the aroused. Listening to the albums is nice, but when you’re up there all wrapped up in the smoke and the smells and the sizzle of the records, there’s nothing quite like it. Slow Grind Fever Vol. 6 was compiled by guest DJ Simon Laxton.. Expect the best in Slow Dance! It features Little Jimmy Scott, Bo Diddley, Malcom Dodds, Donnie Elbert and more

Most people are familiar with this fine hypnotic Blues masterpiece but few people seem to own it. Here coupled with the relatively unknown original B side which builds into a fine mid-paced rocker with an irresistible driving sax break. A nice and tidy ‘must have’ 45.

Is Dead, Long Live B.D.“, niederschlug. Das zweite, selbstbetitelte Album vonBlues Dimension wurde 1968 von Tony Vos produziert, der auch für die Arrangements und Produktionen zahlreicherniederländischer Pop-Acts verantwortlich zeichnete. Der größte Hit von Blues Dimension war eine fantastische Coverversiondes Rare Earth-Klassikers „Get Ready“.

Blues Creation was founded in Tokyo in 1969. They released this, their impossibly rare debut of American blues covers, that same year. Featuring covers of Sonny Boy Williamson, Chester Burnett, Memphis Slim, Willie Dixon, and more, this is the greatest recorded example of the Japanese obsession with American blues music. The band would record several more albums and then come back as, simply, Creation, but nothing reached the sheer blues rock heights of their debut.

The late Jim Dickinson is one of the most eclectic personages Rock n’Roll has ever thrown up: a musical maverick. From Sun Records and Ardent Studios in the 1960s, to sessions with the Rolling Stones, Ry Cooder and Bob Dylan, significant productions of Big Star and the Replacements, and the twisted roots rock of his own Mud Boy & The Neutrons, the man was never, ever predictable. A solo album had not been at the forefront of Jim Dickinson’s mind then, but once the idea was put in place by Jerry Wexler at Atlantic, he reacted conceptually, and with gusto. Dickinson always shot from the hip. He could be coarse on a rocker like “Wine,” or dignified and joyous when celebrating “The Strength of Love.” Inebriated laments like "Wild Bill Jones” contrast sharply with the carny talk of “O How She Dances,” and a shifting, indignant anti-war recitation entitled “John Brown.” As a music maker who could relate equally to both the intellectual and the visceral aspects of popular culture, anything Dickinson lent his hand to was at least interesting and frequently rewarding. Such is the case with Dixie Fried, his solo debut from 1972. Unsuccessful upon release, the record now is now a cult item that, for many, mirrors the deliciously unexpected twists and turns of Dickinson’s subsequent career. Dickinson died 15th of August in 2009.This is a limited run of 1000 copies. All recordings got remastered from the original tapes. The album features seven unreleased tracks. The expanded double LP housed in a deluxe gatefold Stoughton “tip-on” jacket also contains liner notes by Alec Palao, plus excerpts from unpublished memoirs.

Though born in the Mississippi Delta, Earl Hooker’s family moved to Chicago when he was just a baby and by the mid-‘40s he was performing with one of the early legends of Chicago blues, Robert Nighthawk. Hooker is perhaps best known for his distinct slide guitar style and as a sideman for such luminaries as Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and John Lee Hooker (his cousin). In 1968, he assembled a crack band including Pinetop Perkins, and Freddie Roulette, and they’re heard here in fine form on what is probably Hooker’s most well-known and best recorded effort. Reissued on vinyl in a deluxe tip-on jacket. On gold 180 gram vinyl.

The very first release on the legendary Arhoolie label, from way back in 1960, is also the first for Texas acoustic blues great Mance Lipscomb who was a mere 65 years old at the time of its release. Prior to being “discovered” by the label’s founder, Chris Strachwitz, Lipscomb had spent his life as a sharecropper in his hometown of Navasota, Texas. Lipscomb’s “discovery” was one of the greatest by-products of the blues and folk revival of the late ‘50s and early ‘60s as this fantastic vinyl reissue of his first album will attest. Classic country-blues from a master. On green vinyl.

Howlin' Mercy is the third album by American slide blues guitarist, singer and songwriter John Campbell. This album was made before his untimely death due to heart failure in 1993 and contains a bluesified Led Zeppelin cover "When The Levee Breaks". Additionally songs like "Firin' Line", "Written In Stone" "Down In The Hole" (written by Tom Waits) and "Wolf Among The Lambs" are proof of Campbell's roots playing the blues.

By Autumn '66 the Spencer Davis Group was at the very pinnacle of its success, burning up the charts with self-penned originals like 'Somebody Help Me' and 'When I Get Home'. However, this album also paid homage to the (mostly American) musicians, like Elmore James and Elvis Presley, who had so inspired these young lads from Birmingham, propelling them to international stardom. Bonus tracks include their number one smash hit 'I'm A Man', plus 'Stevie's Groove' (featured in the 1966 film, The Ghost Goes Gear, a musical comedy featuring the Spencer Davis Group and a plot about a haunted house, yes you read that correctly), 1967's 'Waltz For Lumumba', and 'I Can't Get Enough Of It'. Texas born T-Bone Walker was a staple of the West Coast blues scene in Los Angeles for nearly 40 years, getting his start in the legendary clubs of Central Avenue. This album was recorded over the space of several years, from 1955-1959, in a time of limited recording activity for the great Walker. Despite the disjointed nature of these recordings, the album remains a cohesive whole, a quintessential piece of West Coast electric blues, back in print thanks to Rumble.

Sam 'Lightnin’' Hopkins, a true poet who invented most of his lyrics on the spot and never seemed to run out of new ideas, was a blues giant of post-war blues whose style was rooted in pre-war Texas traditions. While he cranked up his amp to fierce proportions when performing for his friends at Houston juke joints, producers who recorded him for the so-called folk-blues market usually insisted that he use an acoustic guitar for more 'authentic' results. Either way, Lightnin’ seldom made a bad record, and this June 4, 1963, session on which he played acoustic was among his finest, thanks much to the sensitive support of bassist Leonard Gaskin and drummer Herbie Lovelle, who did a remarkable job of following his irregular bar patterns and abrupt song endings.
